I'm Susie Coda, I'm Frank Vincota, and this week we are Hunger Games Mocking j Part one. Yep, much less a sadder one because we're just kind of hanging around

the office on this one. I don't know. It's like these movies are in I would say, in the current climate, these movies are kind of difficult to watch right now. I remember, I mean ten years ago when they came out, they were upsetting because I feel like the third book is like a little unrelentless is the wrong word, but like they for they unforgivingly

portray like you know what a fascist rule looks like. And right now it's like, oh, wow, okay, this is I forgot what it was like when Catness goes back to her whole district, and I you know, when it all started coming back. As I was watching it, I was like, this is very overwhelming. I'm very anxious. Yeah, I mean, and I the movies are well made, Like I don't remember being as impressed when I initially saw them, but I'm very upon rewatch. I was

like, Wow, these movies are very solid. Yeah, because like for this one, there's not there's very little action. I think there's exactly like one scene of Catenish shooting and arrow. She goes to shoot an arrow a different scene and Commissioner Gordon is like, uh no, you can't shoot at that in here. But yeah, like this is very much I mean, it's the kind of action I love, which is I love watching movies about submarines, and because I just I like watching is mostly interpersonal, yeah,

and people are like staying in a room yelling orders about things. The reason I love Pallas Star Galactica because it's just like, you know, Edward James almost just yelling things into a phone and he's just like, oh, like you know, they're coming in at Carram eight nine twelve, like vipers take them out, And I'm just like, yes, just yell things into that phone. But we're gonna get We hang out with Julian Moore a whole lot. Herschel Lee shows up. He does this super cool kind of slow Moe

walk away from what looks like the X Men plane pulling away. Yeah, And I was texting Susie and Natalie Dormer appears later in the film. I'm just like, oh, man, Gail in a Peter have some competition. Now, I don't know, her character is kind of annoying in the way that Gail's kind of annoying. So I know that I'm older and not as like I just have no interest in problematic people, like dating or being attracted to problematic people. I'm like, why do we ever think there was a

debate? You know, I know I was a little hard on you last week because Gail saved an elderly woman and you were like, oh, that guy's the worst. But now it's started seeing his relationship with the President and his single mindedness about their mission. It's starting to come back to me what he does in the last one, and I'm like, oh, okay, now I don't get why Frank has this extra grind with Gail. But at the time that he was just saving elderly women, I was like, twelve,

friend, what you might want to reconsider that stancer? Yeah, I mean it's just it's a it's a problematics. I mean, yeah, it's more than problematic. Like when Gail is buddy buddy with President Coin. President Coin played by Julian Moore, And I mean in this movie, President Coin presents as a thoughtful, diplomatic person. Yeah, as somebody who is doing

the best with what she has, which is not a whole lot. Like there's well, we'll get there, but there's a debate about, like you know this kind in the book, there's constantly debates about resources and like how much you can give up for something because like they can you know, it's not like they can go out and the capitol knows where District thirteen is, so it's not like we can go out and build farms and whatnot and farm

the land because like the minute you know, somebody sticks their head of that gopher hole, President in Snow is just gonna come out and like just blow it to hell. So you know, it's it's a difficult. It's a

difficulty, but yeah, so should we hop into it. Yes, absolutely, So we we start with Catness. She's hiding an event basically and is going over things in her head like she's like, these are the things that I know are real, And then like we have you know, some people like Miss Everdeen, you need to come out of there, like and she's

like refusing. She says, no, please, just five more minutes and they drag her out and take her back to bed because she still recovering from the games, and she hears somebody crying and she gets up and she goes to find Finnick, who is also suffering from the games and the fact that they did not get Annie Cresta out of the Capitol. And this is where Mahaschel Ali shows up. He's playing Captain Boggs and you know, he just

stand there looking handsome as hell. I have a question because there's a point that Catness mentions that Snow and the Capitol are using Peta as well as Annie to torture them. But I don't remember seeing any evidence of that. What was she referring to? And see I understand the Peda part because we see him a bunch of TV and they're using him as sort of a chest piece to maneuver against Catness, but I didn't understand how Annie was being utilized.

Well, it's just the unknowing nature of what's happening to her, okay, because like you know, I don't think Phinnick is particularly like, you know, Finnick knows what the Capitol does, and they're going like he's like if I'm here, if your loved one is not there in front of you. He never that they're okay. So we eventually, you know, Maha maj Ali, Captain Boggs takes her to go reunite with her mom and sister. They're living in a little like you know, a little apartment. You know.

They talk about how everything is, you know, everything is controlled here, and then she's taken to me President Coin and pleasant Coin is seen almost constantly with Plutarch. Yeah, and like they explained to her that, like, okay, so the arrow that catin is shot into the forest field led to riots and over half the districts and thus they bombed the hell out of District twelve and Catness and they're like, we need you to be our mocking

Jay. You're going to be our yeah, like the symbol of our rebellion. And Catinus refuses because they did not save Peta. So Plutark is like, hey, Coin, you need to be gentle of her, because yeah, it's cat miss Maybe let her see what has happened, and so he says specifically she has forgotten. One of them talks about Catness forgetting who the enemy is, which is a phrase we heard a lot in the previous movie,

like don't forget who the real enemy is. And Plutarch's plan is that uh Catness needs to basically needs to be reminded of the evil that the Capital does and wants to send her to District twelve, which President Coin says again the discussion of resources, like we can't really release people to protect her, and she seems to underestimate the benefit that it's going to have to their larger plan, but Blue Stark says, more or less, just trust me,

I got this, and that's when we see the cool slow motion walk away from the plane as Captain Buggs watches them depart, which I'm surprised that Captain Boggs didn't go on this mission. It seems very touchy and like he should probably be there since it's so serious, But I don't know. I'm not military minded. So what's even more confusing is they just kind of drop off Catnus alone in District twelve and like, we've always sweeped the area. You

know, it's fine, there's no booby traps or anything. We'll be watching you from above. So if something happens, Catus is going to have to wait for this hover plane to lower again. She doesn't even have any weapons on her, Like it's like, fucking just give her a bow, Like, give her a bow. It's bizarre sort of way of approaching this. And then I had misremembered it, and I thought, this is when they

got the footage of her that and they basically call it propaganda. They state that they need to make propaganda videos that in order to perpetuate the rebellion, there needs to be bolstering and I so I was like, oh, that's why they dropped her off, so that it would be sincere in candid, But no, they just kind of abandoned her for a little bit, which really does not track with all of the subsequent conversations that they're going to have

about keeping her safe. Yeah, and like her safety being a huge priority and an issue that they need to keep in mind. So I don't know. The other thing I was going to bring up is that Jennifer Lawrence is

acting in this moment is very very good. Like I think that she did an amazing job throughout this film, and there are a lot of sort of difficult notes she has to hit, like horror and despondents and just the whole range of emotions, and this this moment where she sees like the devastation and genocide of the people that she's known her whole life is like, it's it's gutting. She did, I think a really fantastic job. Yeah. Yeah, because like there was not a whole lot of warning at District twelve,

so Gail could only get out that so many people. Because we will hear that story later, Gail will talk about how he had noticed that the capital withdrew all their troops and there was silence, and everyone was ordered into their home and that's when he realized that something was probably going to happen. So him and a group of men tried to rally people and bring them to like

the fence edge I guess on the outer parts of the district. But so many people were too scared to leave their homes that they ended up dying during the firebombing, and that only I think. He says it's nine hundred and fifteen people got out, but that's out of ten thousand. Yeah, So I just for the first time I looked this up. District twelve is the East Coast, you know, it's made up of New Jersey, and it's

made up of New Jersey, New York State, and Pennsylvania. District thirteen is all of northern New England. Oh yeah, still holds up an apple last night. I had never thought about the geography before. Capital City looks like like Utah, So, which would make sense because if you think of where the Hoover Dam is and where what is that District five is where they destroyed the dam. Yeah, that would make sense geographically. I'm looking at

this map. What the hell happened to Florida? Yeah? I think it because there was a cataclysmic event that led to or was is it a It was a war, but there weren't. I thought there was. Additionally, like environmental factors, there wasn't. I don't know. I just know Canada is now just the wilds. Yeah. But anyways, like in Yellow Jackets, yeah that I want to watch the second season of So Badly, but

I'm so scared Mexico is still around. That's good. Yeah. Anyway, So, uh Catinus, you know, watching the devastation, she heads to uh her her The Victor mansions that they were living in the left side has all been destroyed, but the right side has been left intact. I'm assuming on purpose, well it belongs to the capital. Yeah, but I guess yeah, I mean, as we know, bombing is not meticulous, a meticulous endeavor, so it doesn't surprise me at all that you know, Yeah,

it just wout half of it, but not all of it. Yeah, So they she gets her father's jacket, she gets her mother's herbs, and then she's surprised and Buttercup the cat shows up, and she takes the cat, puts the cat in her bag, and the cat's very angry because this cat just straight up hates cat. Miss Also, what cat are you stepping into a bag that easily? I'm assuming this cat knows what's up.

He's lived, he's lived in PanAm long enough. And she I do, like how can is like interacts with it much like most cat on She's like, yeah, yeah, crime here, or she stuffs it in the in the bag. She goes into her old dining room and amongst the dead flowers, she finds a single white rose, which I understand the symbolism of it, like Coy being like, I know you come back here, but I mean, like, do they just have somebody bring you a new rose out

here? Every week? So I was also confused about this. Still says that he has his own genetically engineered roses presidents. Now okay, because I was also like wait what So yeah, so she sees the rose, she

gets horrified, they leave. Oh. I also want to point out, like, besides how good Jennifer, Jennifer Lawrence's acting is, this is an amazing The shot where they drop her off is amazing because like you see the hover plane and then like that's all you see if she comes down the gangplank and then as it pulls away, like it reveals just how devastated everything is.

I just thought that was a really good shot. Yeah. So she comes back, she hands off the herbs and the cat to her mom and sister, and what is the event that has her go to become the mocking Jay? Oh? Yeah. She finds out that, you know, the Pete is still alive because the Capital is running their own propos of him, you know, basically talking to Caesar Flickerman and saying like let's end this war. And everybody hates Peter because they think he's just doing this on his own.

He's food in the mess hall. Yeah, so she goes to talk to Coin with her list of demands, and the list is that, you know, the other tributes will be freed as soon as they can't, as soon as it is possible, and then they will all be given full pardons, and Coin just says no, Well, she says no, but then she says, well, we'll conven in a tribunal and then it'll be voted

on. And Plutarch again basically has to massage the situation and be like, look, I get both of your side, I understand completely, but here's the and this is when he convinces President Coin that they need Catness. They have no revolution without Catness, and sometimes concessions need to be made. So then President Coin goes up and President Coin counters that if Catness does not sort of follow through or pay out on any of her promises or I guess obligations

slash duties, uh, the plan is revoked. Thus, you know Peter will be held accountable for his Uh. Yeah, I was like, it's hard to we as the viewer know that he is being manipulated by the Capitol because we read the books. And also it's again does not track with Peter character that he would be like, I love President Snow's vision and really just want to do everything I can to aid this absolute maniac monster to get what he wants. So it's hard to even take Oh sorry, go ahead,

Frank, No, you were going to make a very good point. So I was just gonna say it's hard to imagine a world where Peter would be tried for I guess propagandizing. I don't again, like crimes. Question mark is a perfect way of putting it, because it's like, well, what exactly is going on? What? I get that we're mad, but like about what? Okay, So I have a question for you regarding this conversation in any form of media, have you ever heard the word tribunal and gotten

pumped and like this is gonna lead to something good. Every time I hear the word tribunal, I'm like, oh no, because like, well, I would say what I'm gonna counter with is I would say that is in like modern Europe and culture, it's always used as a sort of It's used to to know, like an unreasonable group of people who are trying to meet their own needs. I will say I have to assume that when it was used properly in the context of like a tribe or a community or a village.

Ostentably, you had a group of people with balanced opinions that we're thinking along the line of the great or good. I think just in modern fiction, where like a tribunal usually leads to like death or unreasonableness or groupthink. But I think the idea of a tribunal being like, okay, well we have a representative from this group and like this interest, that a compromise would be reached. But I don't know how that would function in District thirteen.

Again, there you have a tribunal, but you also have a president. So is it like the three branches in US government, because as we've seen, those are not balanced, and that doesn't work at all. I mean, okay, this is what I will say. When any group of decision makers is ruled by their own selfish interests, you are not going to get a good outcome. You're not going to see a good and fair outcome because people are trying to manipulate the system to their own means. I don't I

know that. You know, we'll see stuff in the next movie, but as we know District thirteen, I don't necessarily see that happening because all of the discussions are about what is being done for the greater good, Like we have to think of everyone. You cannot think about the individual. You're thinking about the benefit of everyone. And so I think the conversation would come down to can we have Pena and Nernitz? Would that be okay for the crew? And again, like Peter is, as far as they know, fairly

innocuous. He's basically a prisoner of war right now. He can't be blamed for his actions, and when we find out what happens to him, it's even worse than that. So, yeah, that was a lot of words. I just I was thinking about, like, well, how could that decision be fairly made? And it's it's hard. I think it's hard, And I I feel like President Coin is in a difficult situation. Yeah,

well, I mean you can all. But like, I feel like she doesn't see the digical situation because, like the I would not be surprised if she serves on the tribunal and she would want like what I know of Coin? You know, as the reader, I feel like she would kill Peter immediately because like what pretty inflexible? So yeah, so and like but yeah,

so you saying what we know of Coin? At the end of the books or at this point in the book, I was current, Like if I was watching this for the first time, i'd say currently, but also, but I'm also saying because I know what happens at the end of the books, if I was also because like she can just say, like he said these things, we heard him say it that, like I can easily see how I can see the the the the argument for the prosecution basically, and you know, it's like like, oh, you know he said,

like look, we have video evidence of him saying these things, and the defense is like he was hijacked, Like, oh, show me Evans that like, ah, fuck, sorry, Pete did my best? Did you know? Well, that's the other interesting part is that they figure out what happened to him, And I know, I understand that this is like for the benefit of movie making, like we don't want to have to watch them go through like what do you think's wrong with him? What could have happened

this PTSD? What is this? Oh, he's been hijacked? But I really I I'm skipping to the end just because we're talking about hijacking and we'll go back. But like I feel like one of the reasons that that final scene seeing Peter restrained and he's so agitated and tortured and so upset, and the juxtaposition of cat Is looking at him through the viewing window wearing the neck brace. One of the reasons it's so powerful and so upsetting was because Plutark

says, look, we put a team together, we're on it. It's totally fine. And then because he's like a pr guy, this is has been and seeing the truth of it is so brutal because Peta is anything but fine and who has lost so much along with everyone else at this point. But cats are you know, our protagonist has lost so much and now she has her friend back, but he's gone, and it's I don't it's it's

a lot. And then you have to think about like what they did to him, Like Peta looks in terrible physical condition and he's been broken psychologically. It's I don't know, it's a lot. Well, yeah, that's also the thing, Like there's four movies, Like we've watched two of them so far. How violent has Peta been in any of these movies? Like, yeah, he really never I don't think we've seen him. We've watched Catness predicates so much more violence on people than Peta at all. Yeah, Like

in the first movie, he kills no one. He the most violent thing he does he throws one of those big metas and balls one handed, because uh kad, this is just like YO, throw something, and he's like, you got it. In the second in the second one, he does kill somebody, but it's underwater so we don't see it. And then in this one, because he's being attacked, he's actively being attacked. It's not like he swim over and was like I'm gonna get you. He was like

I need to save myself from being drownded. Yeah. And then in the and then so when he sees her and he grabs her by the throat and like it's strangling her to death, like you know, it's horrifying. And then like you're suddenly reminded, like and like he's just throwing her body around and you're still in your minded like, oh god, he is very strong. I forgot about that because and Josh Hutchinson is i think maybe the same

size as Jennifer Lawrence. And he's so gone and and they they've applied so much like bruising and sort of affliction to his face, but he looks absolutely haunted in that scene. She's she's five nine, he's five five. Oh my god, so she has four feet four feet Jesus soothie four? Yes? Wow? Okay, he's like, I must kill the giant. Yeah. So he flies at her, and we the viewer, or if you

haven't read the books, are like, what the fuck? Because the whole push of this movie, the whole crux of Catnus's plan, has been we need to bring Pete home. I don't do anything until Pete's back, like basically, don't talk to me till I've had my peta and when he is returned. And I mean the other part is I know that no one necessarily knew he was hired because like basically his trigger word, his crowatoa is catus, but like a heads up gale, Like he doesn't look great, he

doesn't seem to be doing well, not in good condition. Maybe give him a beat, none of that. Every this movie oscillates so wildly between Catenus needs to be superised and protected at all costs and catess, Uh, you're good to take care of yourself for a couple hours, right, Okay, Well, we'll call the check ind like it's wildly like discordant. Yeah, like even like even in Balzycoactica, like a Dama who was a pretty big badass of in and of himself, always had a marine escort because he was

important. Yeah, so they play very fast and loose with like how escorted catus has to be a different moment. I don't know. I don't get to talk about Adama that much. The show Sure Knock Yourself Out. Kills one guy with a flashlight in the first series and then disarms two men about forty years his juniors in another scene, and I'm like, yeah, damma, get it. Yes who I also loved when he was in Stand and Deliver And have you ever seen that movie? No, it's about a bunch

of kids from It's from like the Wrong side of the Tracks. Every James almost is a math teacher. He teaches them how to do calculus. They get near perfect scores on this calculus this state calculus exam, and everybody thinks they cheated somehow. It's actually brought up. Give me the answers to a calculus test. I would absolutely still feel it. Calculus is hard and I can't do it. So I'm like the idea of accusing people of cheating a

calculus as job. Yeah. My favor part is he like he's like these kids were like he's arguing with them, and they're like, have them retaste take a test under different circumstances. It's like, fine, they'll take your test and they'll pass it. If I see you, like, if I see you around my neighborhood, kick your ass, I'm like, oh god, I'd be scared to be thrown by over trims. Almost elderly at that point, right, No, he was like middle aged. I'd say he

had a he had a comb over. But he was also like he brought a picture of him in your journal and it says like daddy under it with hearts no no full no, that that's Petter Pascal who thing. This is just a slight tangent. But it was h the Vanity Fair, you know how they do this like detector test with the cast of Merrily We Roll Along. So it's Jonathan Groff. Oh god, it always want to call him Harry Potter, this poor man. Yes, he's such a fantastic actor.

I love him and everything else he's in, and I just it's like burned into my brain. It's so respectful. That is what happens with perfect casting. What do you think I see Chris Evans, No, I see Steve Rogers. Yeah, I was gonna I did I keep forgetting his name is Steve Rogers. I'm like Captain America. So same thing. One of the questions is who's more of a daddy? Uh, Daniel Radcliff or Jonathan Groff. And the actress is like, I just don't I don't want to call

anyone and daddy. She says, they don't regular, but he replies, is that because I'm literally a dad? And she's like yes, like, don't make me do this. Yeah. Well, the thing is like the weird thing with Petram Pascal is he was this like turbo sex god on Game

of Thrones over in Martel. Okay, that like when I see like then he goes to I didn't realize he was, and that's why everyone's well, you know, he he's on Game of Thrones, Like he just shows up, He's all swagger and like, but then he gets killed in the worst way possible. And then he was on Atomic Wedgie. No, his like head gets crushed. Oh jesus, it's Game of Thrones, Susie, I still have not seen a full episode of Game of Thrones. Yeah, do

you know what I watched? Just the episode that has the Starbucks cup in it over and over for me. A Clark Clark Amelia Clark plays Denaris. Oh, I've seen her in a movie. I saw her in that uh All I Want for Christmas movie. Yeah. I think I was like, why is? I was thinking myself because like, I think she's a fantastic actress, and like she's just hasn't been in a whole lot since Game of Thrones ended, though she did for He's a character and a Terry Pratchett cartoon,

Maurice and his Educated Rodents. But then I remember, like, right, she was probably making like a million dollars an episode. She's good on money. She's not like Nick Cage, who is just like, oh god, I gotta pay all the tax man. I mean, I'm very much looking forward to that new Nicholas Cage movie dream scenario. I mean, anytime I see Nicholas Cage like, well, that's all my ridar now. But the thing is seen the preview for that one, no, that he keeps

showing up in everyone's dream like, I mean everyone. So he becomes nationally famous and then Hyjenson sue so he's just regular ast Nick cagecause Nick Cage appears my dreams many times. Is he trying to murder you? Because that's what happens in some people's dreams. No, we make love. Oh god, Frank Brik's like, no follow up? What what? What followup you want from that? Suz? What you want from that? That you say something like we also get married? Now he's not gonna put a ring on this.

I was gonna say, I really demand commitment from the Cage to you. And then I sent a pick to the crip keeper. Yeah, and you're like jealous and he sent me back a picture of him in a tube top. Oh my god, you're like so jealous over his crusty, crusty ribs. Yeah, okay, we got so far away from this because it's so sad is So let's go back to where we left off. She was at District twelve and then she she gets she gets like we're a bit past

us. She gets the cat. She's like, I'll be here mocking Jay as long as okay, sorry, as long as my niece gets her keep her cat and we save Pieda and coins like I will relient on Peta. But you know, butter cups too much of a loose Canada have in this base, and I mean she kind of is. She really becomes a liability. So they they Plutar calls on Effie Trinket and who I forgot was in

this movie. But Effie doesn't have her wigs, so she's wearing like a bandanna over her her head and she still yeah, she still looks lovely. Her and Gail apparently know each other, which I was confused with how that happened. I think he saved her or something. So maybe they took her from the capitol while the games were going on. Yeah, so it wouldn't be that much time to get to know her because Cadness was only in the arena for a little bit, right, Yeah, I don't know two d's

or something. Yeah, maybe, like who knows, maybe Gail was just like Kenness would like it if if he was taken care of, I'll do that for Cans. I'm that might be giving him too much credit. But oh and they say Hamage. Gail only seems to care about what Catines wants, like a third of the time. Yeah, and Hamage is sobering up about a mild underground They say, you think that he was making rampart during

the time that he's not on screen. Yes, because it's so weird that they'd be like, hey, I know you're looking for Hamage, but he's not here right now. Like I wasn't thinking about Hamage. Where is King leaving this? Oh he's behind that tree. So like them, but it was almost like them pointing out the fact that Hamrich was on the room, really shining the light on it, because I was too busy thinking of everyone who had come out of, you know, the arena. I wasn't like,

where is Rumpy Woody Harrelson. Yeah, So they get Effie reunites with or maybe she just knows Gail. I don't know because of her time in District twelve. Who knows? So they reunite. Uh. Effie says she misses coffee, which I can understand that I'm not being into coffee, but if you're not like me, a hydrohomine love only water. Yeah. But she she sews Catinas Sennas designs for her armor, which all look really cool because of course they do, and you know, caniness. Sinna is definitely

dead and yeah, Effie's like, yes, I'm sorry. And Effie considers herself a political refugee. She's not consider herself one of the rebels, so they get her all armored up. And this is one of my favorite things when actors, good actors have to do bad acting because it's just like I'll

get it. It's just it's like one of my It's like one of my favorite things from the sixth seventh Harry Potter film, where like you have her, you have Emma Watson being Hermione Granger pretending to be belitics are strange, and it's just like watching them go through those hoops as fun. And like Plutark is pissed because she's like a PanAm forever and he's like, you aren't just in a battle, Yeah, I mean like to be heir to her. It's like, in the same way that so many actors are asked to

act against green screen, it seems very difficult. Yeah, Like Ian McKellan had a breakdown when like on the filming of The Hobbit because like he was just alone on a green screen stage and he's just like I did kno get into acting to do this and yeah, and then they like made him a little they they the the crew built the Hobbit home and like he went to

go hang out there. He was happier. That's good. Yeah. He also has this lovely thing where he's talking about like, oh, if you're lucky enough to go to I forget what town it is, but like a town I like you come home. You come home from England and you hop in a cab, you know, and the first thing the cavy says,

he was like, will you go in love? Yeah, and he's just like that's one of the best things to be welcomed home with love And if we could just do that like like that, like who cares about from let's just call each other love from that on. Yeah, I'm just like, oh you McKell and your tube persions for this world. I'm so happy you and Patrick Stewart are friends. But he's like the love it was not good. Well, the first one was okay, names of movies they're in.

Yeah. Plutarch is once again like, let's take her to an act of war zone and coints like, so they take her to District eight, where she's gonna meet the wounded she's introduced to Nelly Dormer, who played Marjorie Tyrrell on Game of Thrones and still looks incredibly beautiful with half her hair shaved off.

Pretty cool. Yeah. Castor and Pollocks make up the camera crew, and they also outfit Catnus with she's wearing her mocking Jay armor and she also now has three different kinds of arrows, a regular kind, the explosive kind, and an incendiary kind. She goes to shoot the incidiory the explosive arrow, and Beattie is just like not in not basically like not in the house. He has survived the arena, but he's now in a wheelchair. Yeah.

And what's interesting is he is basically like reverse engineering the work that he did for the Capital. Yeah. So they fly Catnus out to District eight, where there's been heavy fighting. She visits with the wounded and they ask her she's going to fight with them. She says yes, and they ask her about the baby and she says, I lost it. And the Capital picks up that she's there and they send out bombers to bomb the hospital.

And the way that President snow justifies this as he said, you know, we made an announcement that anyone that is caught with the mocking Jay is guilty of treason. So this is what they reap and it's terrible. So they

the whole group of them has taken cover in an abandoned building. Gail and Catness run to the roof of another building to try to shoot down some of the planes, and then they take a propaganda film after she shoots down the plane of Catness talking about you know what the capital does, and that bombing a hospital, killing innocent civilians is what the capital does. Yeah, and she also she says the line if we burn, you burn with us. Yeah. Do you see this fire? It's catching? Yeah. So they

head back. It's played for the districts. Immediately we see a counter from the I'm not sure which one is the Wood District. It's Johanna's. I think that's district for Okay. So President Snow has upped the ah what is

it called when you need to produce a certain quality quantity quotas? He's up the quotas and there are peace heapers escorting U the lumberjacks out to I guess do lumberjack stuff, and one of them sees the mocking j symbol on the tree and does the whistle like the three tone whistle, and then everyone starts

running. And as people are gunned down, a number of the lumberjacks start climbing trees and one of them, once they're to the top of the tree, they yell if you burn or if we burn, you burn with us, and then they set off a number of land mines. Yeah, the the unfortunate thing about any scene where people rebel is it's basically they outnumber. Yeah, anything with what the peacekeepers, any fighting the peace keepers do or against the rebels, the rebels are just like we have we outnumber them.

That's the best we can do. And it might cost us a few lives, but like we just had to swarm them, basically. And then so the way the cadence of basically the rest of the movie goes, they release a Catness propaganda video. So when they returned to District twelve, Catness is talking to one of the filming team and he is it an a box and so he's signing to her about the mocking Jays and then asks her to sing, So she sings, and this is then there's another propaganda video released and

then her singing. This song is played under like as there's a mission going on where they a group of rebels bring explosives onto the Oh god, what is that called? Dam? Damn? Yes, so that is the Hoover Dam, right, I mean it's a big I don't I can't say if it is or not, but it's big enough to be the Hoover Dam. I have never seen the Hoover Dam in person. I did see it in an episode of Pete and Pete, and I feel like, this is what the Hoover Dam will look like in the future. So I agree that it's

probably the Hoover Dam. So they again the technique of basically storming the peacekeepers with people like just sheerly outnumbering them, and then they blow up the dam and then all of the power goes out in the capitol and presidents know again is pissed. So now uh President Snow counters with his own propaganda video of

Peta and they have phinnic uh jamming the airwaves. So that oh right, Because so the plan is that they're going to go in and rescue the victors from the capitol, and so Phinnick is just basically making can't be missed TV by talking about what n asshole President Snow is the fact, or, I said Peter Finick, the fact that President Snow basically like trafficked him and coerced him into like sex work that he didn't want to do, and that in

order to assuage themselves, the people that were taking advantage of him would tell him secrets. And one of the secrets that we learn is that Presidents Now has been slowly poisoning himself because he was killing off people around him that he felt threatened by. And then, uh, they when did the bombing happen

before or after this? Before? Right? Well? Okay, yeah, so they're going in now, Yeah, it happens before they're finally able to break through the Capital's defenses and they so now the Capitol is starting to see the proposts and they're seeing the ones of the bombed, you know, of her singing the song the song kind of things is called the hanging Tree. We're going to go out on it. And Peter sees her and that brings

him back to himself. And because I guess the damn controlled the electricity in the Capitol, and you know, so that weakens the system, they're able to break through with their propos and he is able. He comes back to myself and he says, like, they're going to kill everyone, Catness, they're coming, and you know, Cannes is like yeah, and Cannes realizes,

oh god, he's warning us. They're sending bombers. So they start doing They're sending everybody as deep as they can into District thirteen to the bomb shelters, and uh, Prim goes back for her cat, and you know, Cat is like Catness and her mom like, I thought you had frem and Ken, she went back for the god damn cat and she goes back.

Prim has buttercups and runs her. Know, they barely make it into the bunkers and they're hanging down there, and you know, like we're listening to the bombs fall, and you know, Coin is asking is there any radiation or anything like that, and you know, then we see Catus Light

having the cat chase a flashlight. Light and the Coin have a disagreement because Coin believes that certain parts of the district are being bombed because they've shown themselves by having guns exposed, like anti aircraft guns, and Flutark says, well, that's not necessarily true, and you can't just let them bomb you. And Coin says, basically tells him to mind his own beeswax and that he's

very much out of his element. And so this is where we se the initial disagreement between them about how to approach you know, dealing with the capital and retaliation. Yeah, but she calls back their their fleet and just like we're gonna just it's gonna be a long night. We're just gonna wait, wait this out. So yeah, so Catness, they want to have a propos to basically like ha, ha, didn't get me, idiots. The

mocking Jay is still alive. But Catinus goes outside and finds a bunch of white roses, and that brings to the realization that he's going to hurt Peta if she keeps if she keeps doing the proposts, and that she stops wanting to be the mocking Jay. And hey, Mitch comes out of hiding. Well he's been out of hiding, but he comes to convince her to keep doing it, and he's like, they've also sent out the rescue mission.

What we're gonna do is jammed their airways with something they can't block. And that's when we get the Finnic I just call them the Phinic Revelations to the

Capitol. Yeah, so we get like, basically, you know, a kind of like zero Doc thirty like vision of them going through the training center where all the tributes are being held and they bring them back, and this is where we run into all the Peta stuff of him attacking her, and also Catnus starts basically calling out to President Snow and they have a conversation basically I literally just watched this and I can't remember remember what happened. Says I'm

not going to do this anymore. I want to step down, like let's have a ceasefire. And President Snows says it's too late for that. I know your friends are here, you really really, Oh my gosh, And he says to her, the things that we love are what will eventually kill us. And then he says, remember that I said that. And the reason he said that is because Caddis just wanted Peter back, and then they've programmed Peta to kill her. Yeah, and you know he's look, I

love is a little on the nose, wouldn't you say? Yeah, And we've got to mention that the three says, I love Poison. Yeah. The three they get out is Peter, Johanna, and Annie, Annie and Finnick have a beautiful reunion. Frank starts crying. Johanna is gaunt and bald. Yeah she is. I'm assuming they did all this to break her spirit, and my god, she just can't be broken, you know. But like when you've been through what she's been through, usually like you're driven by

revenge, and that's you know. We end the movie with basically Coin saying like Coin is he is starting to listen to Plutark because the Plutark and her had a conversation where he's like, hey, maybe not just give facts, but maybe try and inspire the people, and you know, yeah, and like we we see Plutarch and Effie Trinket like staying together and Plutarch's mouthing the

lines along with President Coin and I ship it. Yeah I should. I should Plutark and Effie like you know, trade Trader cut og so cleotogratry here, right, I think so? I mean, And it's very sad because the movie is dedicated to Phillip Seymour Hoffmann. I believe he passed before this one was released. Yeah, he he makes an appearance at cg I'm the next One, which sucks fucking but you know, and basically technology just because

we can does not mean we should. Yeah I did. I did not need to see a c g I Carrie Fisher at the end of Rogue one, so or the c g I Hilo Remas at the end of the last Ghostbusters movie. That was really strange. By the time that happened, I was like, guys, what the fuck, It's just who is this for? Remis not remus? Excuse me, Like it's just like that movie was made to begin with, and that whole end scene just really bogs it down. If somebody has passed away, just let them be. Don't put CGI

people in your movies. Say it really comes down to a question to consent. They cannot consent because they're not here anymore. Oh and they did the same thing with Christopher Reeves in the Flash, like come on, you you had Nicholas Cage doing the Kevin Smith spider fight, Like that's fine, Like I'm cool with that because Kevin Smith or because Nicholas Cage is alive, but

like, ugh, just like poor Chris and I get it. Christopher Reeves was you know, one of the best Superman Superman out there, but just let him be Yeah it just but yeah, Like I was this the start of it? Like do you remember them putting CGI people in other things before they did to Philip sy Moorehelfman. I mean this, When this happened, it was a very very big deal. I think that movie studios were sort of like, well, how I feel like And this is completely just my

own opinion. I am not basing this on any sort of like fact, but I believe that movie studios have started to realize that we as the viewer, are not complete idiots, and that it is preferable to just write a character out or not have them present, rather than do bullshit like this. Because I can tell you it's someone who sees a ton of movies. I've never been like, I am so glad that you reanimated this person who has

passed never in my life. And I think that the newest Ghostbusters really suffered for that, because I was like, this clearly is not to engage a new generation into the Ghostbusters, because this would it would just be fun. This Ghostbusters is like very much like a middle age sort of like I'm reflecting on my life, What does it all mean? And it's a fucking bummer, which is not what Ghostbusters is supposed to be. Yeah, Ghostbusters is

about ghost performing sexual acts on you. That's what those movies are about. Oh god, yeah, it happened in like the first one, Like what the hell? Yeah, it happened to the first one and it's not it's I mean, it was the eighties. Everything was terrible. But yeah, but at the same time, it's like, which, just why, like Black except for like nostalgic weirdos who are like, I'm questioning everything, what

does it all mean? Like Black, Black, Panther, Wakanda Forever did it correctly in that like they they head you know, T'Challa dying off screen while Shiry is down in her lab desperately trying to save him, and like so you get that that's a double edged sword in that, like she wasn't

there when her brother passed because she was trying to save him. So that I have that gives pathos to the character and you know, like helps her on her journey or starts her on her journey of both grieving morning and finally acceptance. You know, like they did do it, and they did it much worse in the second Independence Day movie, which why did that even exist? Where they're just like Will Smith's character. Will Smith's character died off screen

in a jet flight, like in a test flight accident. I'm like, really, that's what you that's what we're going with, Okay, fine, And it was definitely not that this actor just did not want to be in this movie. Here's the other part. They did not need to kill Will Smith off at all, Like he could just be retired. I think people retire from the military like in their forties, just retire the character. That's

what the Festive Furies did. Like like Joanna Brewster in the most recent one, she gets attacked, she fights off, like the dudes are attacking her with John Cena, and then she's like, I gotta go go make sure Brian's okay and just leaves the movie. I'm like, yeah, good, that's fine. Brian's just out there just hanging out, hiding from the law

that he portrayed. But can't you know, and then like and the worst thing about ID four to two is that they pitch a much better movie in their movie because you know, basically, like part of the what happened in between the two movies is that these giant spaceships crash landed where they were shot down, and then like the aliens came pouring out of them, so then

it became like a ground war. And this guy they talk about this like Africa, like they're in Africa and like Jeff Goldblum's talking to these soldiers and they're like, yeah, they came into the jungle. Nobody helped us. We had to fight them, like you know, machete to alien. And I'm like, that is such a cooler movie than this. Show me gorilla fighting, getst aliens in the jungle, Like that's your that's the movie, not this, Like oh they showed up and we're basically just doing the same

movie again, like yeah, oh there's a bigger spaceship. I'm like, oh, as like who cares? Give me Predator Guerrilla Warfare, Like give me like much better movie than they completely botched because you know, we can't tell we can't tell interesting stories about people of color. Oh wait, we can't. It's been done a whole lot. Fucking I haven't watched that.

They made a Predator movie called Prey where it's like this Native American woman from like you know before I think colonization is just fighting a predator, and I heard it rules that's awesome. I mean I saw what was that last one that came out and then dudes were like accused of not great stuff on the set. I don't you're gonna really to narrow it down. So it was like a predator or alien movie. I don't know, there's like Alien.

This is pre COVID. It doesn't matter. That one was also bad, but there was Predators, which had a good concept where it's just like a bunch of dangerous people. Covenant Alien Covenant. That one was not good, like just from the trailer, like like there's only couples on this spaceship. I'm like good people who will do what they can to make sure one person stays alive. Oh yeah, it was totally was this one? Is this the one? Oh gosh, I'm on thing. Let's try controversy, mh.

But yeah, there's another movie that they totally pitched a better movie than that movie, and I can't remember it. Maybe it wasn't this one, but yeah, it doesn't matter. But okay, so next week we will be doing the last of the Hunger Game series and then we will be moving into Oh, we got two more movies. We have Mocking J Part two and then we have the Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds. Oh right, okay,

you know, yes, well how about this? How about we next week we're gonna do the Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds and then after that we'll do Mocking J Part two. Yes, because it will not affect Mocking J Part two. Yeah. Well, then we can then look for references in mocking better informed about why presidents Know is the worst person ever? Yeah, because I do know. Apparently like in Mocking JA Part two they go to like President Snow's cousin's house. So yeah, but we'll be up well,

we'll do a deep dive into the Santa mindset. But what the Santa mindset? Oh damn it, it's breaking up on my side. Okay, we're gonna close up this episode before zoom fails us again.
