長生章第五十九治人事天，莫若 嗇。夫唯嗇，是以早服；早服謂之重積德；重積德則為不克；無不克則莫知其極；莫知其極，可以有國；有國之母，可以長久。是謂深根固 柢，長生久視之道。
第 五 十 九 章
治 人 事 天 ， 莫 若 啬 。
夫 唯 啬 ， 是 谓 早 服 ﹔早 服 谓 之 重 积 德 ﹔ 重 积 德 则 无 不 克 ﹔
无 不 克 则 莫 知 其 极 ﹔ 莫 知 其 极 ， 可 以 有 国 ﹔有 国 之 母 ， 可 以 长 久 ﹔
是 谓 深 根 固 柢 ， 长 生 久 视 之 道 。
Dì wǔshíjiǔ zhāng
zhì rénshì tiān, mòruò sè. Fū wéi sè, shì wèi zǎo fú﹔zǎo fú wèi zhī zhòng jīdé﹔ zhòng jīdé zé wúbù kè﹔ wúbù kè zé mò zhī qí jí﹔ mò zhī qí jí, kěyǐ yǒu guó﹔yǒu guózhī mǔ, kěyǐ chángjiǔ﹔ shì wèi shēn gēn gù dǐ, chángshēng jiǔ shì zhī dào.
59. Restraint
Manage a great nation as you would cook a delicate fish.
To govern men in accord with nature
It is best to be restrained;
Restraint makes agreement easy to attain,
And easy agreement builds harmonious relationships;
With sufficient harmony no resistance will arise;
When no resistance arises, then you possess the heart of the nation,
And when you possess the nation's heart, your influence will long endure:
Deeply rooted and firmly established.
This is the method of far sight and long life.
君王治理百姓、运用天道，没有比节制收敛更好的。所谓机制收敛，这就是说要早些按天道做事。早按天道做事，就是要不断积蓄道德；不断积蓄道德，就无所不胜；无所不胜，就没有人知晓道德的极限；没人知晓道德的极限，就可以拥有国家社稷。能够拥有了治理国家的根本道理--大道，就可以使国家更加长久，这叫做根深蒂固，是保持生命长久、保持明察的总原则。
