知止章第四十四名與身孰親？身與貨孰多？得與亡孰病？是故甚愛必大費，多藏必厚亡。知足不辱，知止不 殆，可以長久。
第 四 十 四 章
名 与 身 孰 亲 。 身 与 货 孰 多 。 得 与 亡 孰 病 。
甚 爱 必 大 费 ﹔ 多 藏 必 厚 亡 。
故 知 足 不 辱 ， 知 止 不 殆 ， 可 以 长 久 。
Dì sìshísì zhāng
míng yǔ shēn shú qīn. Shēn yǔ huò shú duō. Dé yǔ wáng shú bìng. Shén ài bì dà fèi﹔ duō cáng bì hòu wáng. Gù zhīzú bù rǔ, zhī zhǐ bù dài, kěyǐ chángjiǔ.
44. Contentment
Health or reputation: which is held dearer?
Health or possessions: which has more worth?
Profit or loss: which is more troublesome?
Great love incurs great expense,
And great riches incur great fear,
But contentment comes at no cost;
Who knows when to stop
Does not continue into danger,
And so may long endure.
名声与生命，哪一样与你更密切呢？生命与财富，哪一样对你更重要呢？得着世 界与丧失生命，哪一样是病态呢？
贪得无厌的人必有大损害，囤积财富的人必有大失丧。
所以，知道满足，便不受困辱；知道停止，才能免除危险，可以得享长久的生命。
名聲與生命，哪一樣與你更密切呢？生命與財富，哪一樣對你更重要呢？得著世 界與喪失生命，哪一樣是病態呢？
