素樸章第十九絕聖棄智，民利百倍；絕仁棄義，民復孝慈；絕巧棄利，盜賊無有。此三者以為文不足，故令有所屬。見素抱樸，少私寡欲。
第 十 九 章
绝 圣 弃 智 ， 民 利 百 倍 ﹔
绝 仁 弃 义 ， 民 复 孝 慈 ﹔
绝 巧 弃 利 ， 盗 贼 无 有 。
此 三 者 以 为 文 ， 不 足 。
故 令 有 所 属 ： 见 素 抱 朴 ， 少 思 寡 欲 ， 绝 学 无 忧 。
Dì shíjiǔ zhāng
jué shèng qì zhì, mínlì bǎibèi bèi jué rén qì yì, mín fù xiàocí﹔ jué qiǎo qì qì lì, dàozéi wú yǒu. Cǐ sān zhě yǐwéi wén, bùzú. Gù lìng yǒu suǒshǔ: Jiàn sù bào pǔ pǔ, shǎo sī guǎ yù, juéxué wú yōu.

19. Simplify
If we could abolish knowledge and wisdom
Then people would profit a hundredfold;
If we could abolish duty and justice
Then harmonious relationships would form;
If we could abolish artifice and profit
Then waste and theft would disappear.
Yet such remedies treat only symptoms
And so they are inadequate.
People need personal remedies:
Reveal your naked self and embrace your original nature;
Bind your self-interest and control your ambition;
Forget your habits and simplify your affairs.
弃绝成功与智慧，对人民有百倍的好处。弃绝仁义的说教，人民就会复归孝慈。弃 绝技巧与功利，就不会有盗贼为患。然而，用这三者作诫律是不够的。
一定要让人心有所归属才行，就是：认识生命的本根，持定存在的本原。使自我越来越少，使欲望越来越淡。拒绝人间的学问，保持无忧无虑的心。
