Hello, everyone, and welcome to Superhero Slate. This show, we run down the latest superhero entertainment news. We love TV, movies, and superheroes. So let's talk it all out. My name is Chris. And my name is Mike. And this week we're celebrating Star Wars Day. May the force be with you, Mike. That was yesterday. But you know, we can do it a little later than everybody else. May the 4th be with you yesterday? Yes. And also with you as well.
I kept telling people because obviously I think it's funny, but, you can watch. You can. Well, I actually have some notes. I had two Star Wars, and I think it's gonna be fun. big news for, you know, not to just be Star Wars. Marvel to see the boys gets a first trailer for season four. I don't know if you had a chance to watch that yet.
I just watched it before we started recording, and it felt weird saying we love TV, movies, and superheroes because that trailer is like the opposite of loving superheroes, but the context of the characters. So we'll get. We'll get to that. It's definitely, a different feeling when you're watching that one. for sure. So we'll talk about that. We're opening up the rumor mill for not, anything and everything Marvel today, Avengers, blade, Midnight Suns, and so much more.
Yeah. The rumor, like, Powered by a stream of internet comments that goes by a flywheel and crushes the rumors into a nice edible dust. That's right. And we mix that into, our, limited time regional drinks. Mike, you know, if we were going to talk about. We were talking about the. There's a sprite, there's chill, and there's a Pepsi long. Like a little upload, window on OBS, I think, where you, crush it and finally deposit the matter. Yeah, yeah.
You guys, you guys get a you guys get it firsthand from us, if that makes sense. but but no. We're here. I we are streaming vertically on YouTube shorts if you're on YouTube shorts. Welcome to that. we're testing out new stuff all the time on the show. if you listen to us, wouldn't you download some number? You can also, you know, come in usually, sometimes on Sundays and catch us live and and listen to that. but. Yeah. Mike, I don't want to.
I don't want to waste your time here because this first topic you got in your notes here, I've seen because I gave it to you, and, and, you know, much like Scarface, I have to get high my own supply. So, you're going to tell us about your show, and I'll give you my thoughts on it as well. But, yeah, this is the, the power, I would say, of influence of kind of the first hits free, but you supplied me with more than just the first hit.
But, you had quite a few episodes of Game Changer on your Plex server, which is the drop out TV original show, and I loved it. I fell in love with it. And then I was going to get around to asking you, like, hey, can you go out and hunt down, like, the latest seasons? And who knows, maybe they're already on there and I never got around to check, but I was like, you know what I love Game Changer and what Sam Risch is doing over at, drop out so much.
And I love all of the creators and the comedians and improvisers over there. It's like it's 60 bucks a year. That's like the cheapest streaming service out on the market, and it's totally worth it. So bite the bullet, which it's like a soft ball. It's like the bullet is made of Tootsie Roll. Very easy to bite. got myself a subscription to drop out. So we ran through the latest season a game changer. Now we're up to date, so now we get to watch it every Monday when a new episode drops.
They did this. Live. And they did this hilarious episode. It's like bingo, inception where the, where the panelists on the show think they're playing bingo, and then there's somebody else hidden in another room that's playing bingo based on what their the other players are doing. And then there's a third level of bingo players playing bingo based on what the second room is doing. So it's just hilarious. It's so funny.
I love Game Changer, but I'm looking forward to jumping into a bunch of other stuff that's happening on drop out TV. my neighbor across the street who are who were pretty close with, they also have a drop out subscription, and he's recommending all these other shows that they have on there, especially the D&D stuff. so that's. That's, Brennan Mulligan, I think he's he's a frequent guy on Game Changer. He does the indie stuff, doesn't it? Is it is it he.
He apparently they really they've really, fleshed out a lot of the D&D content on drop out TV because they have dimension 20, which I guess is their kind of mainline D&D show. But my neighbor was telling me they do a lot of like, offshoots of, like, there's like Dungeons and Dragons and drag queens or I guess dungeons and drag queens is maybe what it's called, or that's like its own thing. And then there's these other different D&D like, like mini series that go for just a couple episodes.
And, I think those have all totally different cast of characters. And so, yeah, looking forward to checking out more of drop out. And this is my recommendation. If anybody out there likes comedy, loves laughing, there's tons of laughs to have. Their, game changer is kind of like, the top of the pyramid. That's kind of like their flagship show. But apparently there's tons of other awesome stuff on there. Yeah, I see a lot of the he runs dimension 20 and it has 21 seasons.
Now I'm going to tell you, Mike, did you get the full year code of drop out 20% off your first full year? Maybe. Probably. I don't remember. Okay. Well, I'm going to tell everyone now if you want to get into it, it's 4799 for the year, 20% off. If you go to their website right now. Yeah, that's a. Good deal. So if I divide that by 12 divided by, 365, it's, it's it's totally worth it's a fun little streaming service.
Well, I mean, I'm even looking at the dimension 20, you know, again, these are one and a half, two hour D&D sessions, 20 episodes times 21 seasons. The amount of content you're going to get is going to be huge, right? Like like in that the amount of content versus your your cost, right? You're not like it's like Apple TV where you're going to get like, you know, maybe six episodes a quarter on the show sometimes. So, absolutely.
I can agree with, with some of that content I've come across there as well. Yeah. and this is also going to be my, my, my, my promotion for, if anyone has not seen Taskmaster, another show similar to Game Changer. I always see these both in reels. I always recommend Taskmaster on, on, BBC4 or BritBox, whatever it is. But continue. Mike. Yeah. All great. but on the on the angle, the topic of just games and ship in general.
last night, our board game group got together and we played a board game, titled after the movie franchise itself, Halloween. a hidden movement game. Now, if you're familiar with board games, you probably already know everything about this game and how it works based on it being called a hidden movement game, but I had no idea what this was called. I don't know anything about subgenre of board games.
our board game master that we always play with knows all the rules and knows all the sub mechanics. So he he taught us last night, and it's really, really fun. It's a four player game. at least we played with four players. one of them is Michael Myers, who moves around the board on their very own white board. So they're kind of writing down where they're moving.
So we don't get to see where Michael Myers is, whereas the rest of us are just running around these four different houses trying to get these clues. And our goal is to get, the, the keys to the locked car on the street and then get to and then find the two kids that were babysitting. Once you accomplished those two things and make it to one of the cars on the board, on the board, you get to escape. And that's how you win.
there's another variation where you can win if you kill Michael Myers, but like, it's a lot of work. He has a lot of health, and he'll probably kill you first. so it was really, really fun. It was really tense. my wife was like, getting she was saying she was getting, like, legitimately, like, scared and, like, tensing up because it's like you're moving on this board game and you don't want to accidentally move your piece onto the square, or Michael Myers is because he gets like a free attack.
And then whenever he is in, like the line of sight of you on the board, his game piece shows up and you put him on the board and it's actually kind of creepy of like, like 20 squares away. Like you can see Michael Myers. And it's kind of how it works, you know, in the movies, right? You know, that iconic scene. And I think it's the first film where he's like in broad daylight, like right down the sidewalk, like right by a hedge, and then like, you look away and he's like, gone.
So, if anyone's a fan of kind of vintage slasher movies and board games, this one's fun. I would check it out. It's just called Halloween. I don't know exactly how you're gonna Google search this. I don't really know who made it, but it's a hidden movement game, so go, go check it out. Chris, you kind of had a blast in the past a little bit, too. This weekend, it looks like. I did I, I so I it again, as we said this time. So yesterday was May the 4th is May the 5th.
So Star Wars Day obviously everything Star Wars is going on. But I love that we keep defining today, Sunday as the day I the horrors day. Wait a minute. Yeah, well Cinco de Mayo. How about that very popular holiday? Is it going to smile? That's just funny. The power of Star Wars. Yeah, the revenge of the fifth, right? Is that what I can say as well? I don't know, but yeah, they it is also the 25th anniversary of episode one of Star Wars within a minute.
So I've said this on the show for a couple of weeks now, maybe months that this is coming back in theaters. So I was able to go see Star Wars again in theaters. And, it was really fun to go back because I think I might have even said maybe not to you guys, but I in a group chat somewhere, I was like, I'm always worried about these events. Like, is the theater just popping on Blu ray and or logging into Disney+ and streaming Star Wars? Because, you know, that's not fun.
I hope they get the original reels and it's got that cinematic and stuff to it. But I remember watching The Phantom Menace in theaters, in 90, 99. When it came out, it was everywhere. I think we've talked this in detail. Taco Bell and I had to go half an hour. We watched it in fantastic, and then I rewatched it in 2012 when they were going to do the 3D remasters of everything. Do you remember when they announced, like, we're going to 3D Star Wars?
and that's when 3D was big and, you know, 2011, 2012. So they did The Phantom Menace. I went watch it in 3D, just to see it in theaters again. they never did another Star Wars movie in 3D, ever. That was it. They stopped, completely with, The Phantom Menace. So that was really fun. So it was it was fun to go back and watch it and see that and get the, you know, full theatrical experience of this movie.
Now, there are, you know, detractors of the the prequel trilogy, even this one in some say it doesn't even matter in the grand scheme of Star Wars. You can take it out of your watch order. Not really missing anything, but it was really fun to see the, you know, the first appearances for you. McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi Liam Neeson is quite Gungeon. this one was also the version. I don't know if you remember this.
They had puppet Yoda in the original version and they CG them up later after they had them CG and the other ones. because that old puppeteer did not hold up in this at all, he he sticks out like a sore thumb. But to hear the duel of the fates, to see, you know, Darth Maul double bladed lightsaber, to really feel this movie was, was pretty, pretty good. I will say one of the I was thinking about this movie because I'm watching the movie already know what's going to happen.
I'm thinking other things. One of the things I think would have been better would have made this movie probably way more solidified in the history of Star Wars, is that we know that, Anakin, and Padmé, end up together, and Padmé is obviously the mother of Luke Skywalker. However, she's, like, undercover as, like, an assistant, right? Or like a handmaiden for most of the film. Like, she's pretending, you know, she is a queen. She's pretending to be the handmaiden.
So, you know, they don't assassinate the actual queen at the end of the day. but, like, it's very much like we know your name. We know who you're going to be. Like, if they had held on to that reveal and did it better than, like, in front of Boss Nass towards the end of the third act, I think that that would have really given this movie a much needed, twist of that, that this is not there. Right? It kind of comes out like, yeah, we know you're who you're going to be. And it wasn't there.
So I think if they been able to hide that a little better, that would have been fantastic. And remember the huge twist and give this movie some stuff. I also forgot how fast the, and the politics are more in episode two three, but the how fast they just speed through. you know, I get vote of no confidence against Chancellor, vote for him. And then next thing you know Palpatine's voted in is, you know, the new chancellor.
I'm like, they really just glossed over all that shit, like real fast in this movie. So it's not by any means perfect movie. But man, when you hear that duel of the fates start, they hit hitting there in those, those final rooms like where they're fighting in the, shield generator rooms in Naboo. It's just it's just great to hear. And I mean. it's one. Of the. That's like the the prequels. I mean, that first movie that gets all the hate. They did three things amazingly well duel the fates.
Obviously it's almost it's not more iconic than the, like the Star Wars themes, but it's it's right up there. It's got to be topped. It evokes an emotion. Right? Like it's still like you feel it rather than just hear it at the end of the day. So absolutely. Darth Maul, a very imposing look. And the first kind of like alternate lightsaber we ever saw in Star Wars was rad. I mean, those trailers back in the day before the movie ever came out, like, whoa, you can stick two lightsabers together.
That's insane. This is we were just doing this in our head the whole time they put it on screen. Yeah. And also, like, I don't really remember what people thought when the movie came out, but pod racing is still cool. I mean, absolutely, you can you can talk about the story points of maybe how it was used as like a narrative, but like just the idea of pod racing is neat. And I think. They should have really kept it going. Right? Not just a one off kind of thing.
Like, you know, you have chance to visit other things and use pod racing in the background for some things. It's so popular it spawned, what, three or at least two console video games? one was pod racing, one was like super bomb bad racing. And then also the arcade pod racing game. that that's how big that was, right?
That it spawned, you know, video games based on that, that alone for that, I will also say the other thing I really still enjoy about Star Wars Episode one and compared to newer Star Wars, is the lightsabers still feel like unstable blades of light rather than we have a stick that's glowing in front of us because we we don't want to, you know, CGI all the blades again. Right?
So, I really, really enjoy the old lightsabers, even back then, where they feel like a real blade of light and it's unstable and you don't know how it's going to be. So watching that was really, really fun to see those, kind of kind of come together. So, absolutely loved it. And that, that kind of kicks off our nose. And Star Wars Celebration, was in Japan this year. I've not really heard anything huge come out of this.
Mike, if I'm going to be completely honest, like overall news and announcements has been kind of light other than if you're like a fan of like, toys or collectibles. Overall. our next topic we'll talk about did give us something else, but I want to say, I know you're not a Fortnite person, but Fortnite had a huge Star Wars update this week and on Friday, actually. And they added in Star Wars for everything.
So there's like, in the main battle royale, there's obviously some, some the lightsabers, the characters that you can get, and buy and play as they actually added Lego, Fortnite, Star Wars stuff in the Lego Fortnite, like Star Destroyers, things you can build, you have like a rebel workbench. You can build lightsabers. So that's like a permanent addition to that game. So that's really fun.
And also, if I play a lot of Fortnite Festival and they added the cantina song to the music was in Fortnite Festival. And boy, that thing is not fun to play. I love listening to it as a joke, but boy it is not fun to play and all they make, so I can't recommend that to anyone who's like other than just a gimmick. But a Star Wars is really just silly. a powerhouse in terms of like crossovers, promotions and, merchandizing. Right?
That's that's that's that's where Star Wars is or it's, it's a big, big merchandise push, but, Star Wars Celebration, this year, and we got our first trailer for, the next Star Wars series, which is The Acolyte. and this is I we know we had a teaser trailer a while back. This is like a good story trailer kind of showing that, you know, something is hunting, the Jedi in the High Republic. And it comes to reveal at the end of this trailer, you kind of see, a Sith or, you know, it could be a Sith.
It could just be an evil person with the lightsaber. But I love almost like the anime inspired mask by this character, right? It has like, a toothy grin. Look on the mask with the metal. Yeah, it's super creepy. They've always done a pretty good job of kind of iterating on the Darth Vader helmet. I this is kind of funny, right?
Because we always because if you look at the original trilogy, like Obi-Wan Kenobi was more than likely wearing those old, tattered robes because he was an old hermit and he was in character. And all of a sudden that kind of became the Jedi outfit, right? and I cleaned. Them up, and that's what they'll wear now. Yeah. The same thing kind of happened with the Darth Vader helmet. Like he needed the helmet to live. That was just like life support, right?
But now, like Kylo Ren, I guess he had the helmet as, like an old image to his, to his grandfather, but he didn't have any life support in it. But also it had like modular voice on it, which is just cool. It's just cool movie stuff, right? Like I'm not it's no dig on that. But to see a character with the big grin like, okay, why does this guy have the mask? Like maybe, maybe this is the original, right?
Maybe when they, when they created the Darth Vader mask, like the dude with the clay that was sculpting the look before he went in for his creative review was just like, I took inspiration from this, old High Republic, first, like Sith Lord that was running around. But I agree, it's a cool toothy grin. feels very anime. like kind of. I haven't watched Chainsaw Man, but I feel like it kind of fits that esthetic a little bit. I feel like something has, like a grin in that show.
Yeah, like Chainsaw Man or like, it kind of reminds me was that, death? Is it Death Note like the big toothy. Yeah, maybe like. Creature in Death Note. so, yeah, it looks fun. and this, you know, some of, you know, we get to see essentially the guy from, in the chilly, a Squid Games is the main character. And, you know, his his apprentice. Oh, I trained, I didn't even know. I didn't even notice that. Yeah, yeah. So the main guy is a character in his.
His, his once padawan is the villain, and she's she's doing some of the interesting we don't see in Star Wars a lot. she's trying to kill Jedi with, knives, which is I think is going to provide for some interesting action. Right. Rather than just lightsaber versus lightsaber for the whole thing. We're probably going to see some some interesting choreography in this. there was some shots in the trailer.
It looked like maybe more ritualistic, kind of, spiritual ceremonies kind of connected to being a Jedi. So it seems like we're anchoring ourselves in an age where, a Jedi was more than just kind of like a, a high level military officer, which is kind of where they were sitting in the prequels to now. That's exactly. Yeah. Go ahead. No, I mean, and it looks yeah, it seems like people are going to be kind of like shattering the perception.
Yeah. Jedi. Yeah. Like when I watch, when you go into The Phantom Menace, you literally just see, like, you know, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, and then you get to the High Council later on and they're like, just sitting in a chair really not doing anything right, because they just came out of Phantom Menace. I'm like, oh, fresh off this, like the the original Jelly Council is just boring. And they're just like, you know, so much. I guess, gets too smug to deal with things on the ground.
Really, at the end of the day, right? So they have the Knights doing it, but like, you're right, like these days, like, there's a lot of white arrows. It seems to be like, you know, a lot of reference to to the Jedi. Still, before they were just like, hey, we're going to come out here and be quote unquote peacekeepers. but I'm excited to see, you know, I don't I don't know, we don't we've never been to the High Republic in action before.
We just had the books, guarantee a lot of people that read those books or the comic books. So it's going to be really uncharted territory. And, I think that's that's a fun thing to deal with, right? You know, not having to, weigh into something that's happened six years earlier and six years later, kind of like we have to do with The Mandalorian and or kind of have that freedom, right?
to not have to deal with anything like we know what we're building towards, but, like, they can do anything they want around anything without having to tie in with, except for the final pieces. So I'm excited to watch this as we'll have a double episode drop on, June 4th in less than a month. So, excited to to kind of dive into that and, you know, get, get some new Star Wars content that isn't tied to anything we've ever seen before along the way.
I have not got to watch the new Star Wars, The rise of the, tales of the not not tales of the Jedi. The other one, tales of the Empire, that came out this weekend. But, I'm hoping to dive into this this week. The other bit of news here, this is not Star Wars Celebration, but this is still Star Wars related. It's The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. will begin filming later this month. May. And this was kind of confirmed by the star actors.
I think one of them who plays The Mandalorian, he says, you know, we were going to shoot in June, but we are shooting in May now because production milestones on this are being met, and it's on track to still be released May 2026. So that's, good news, right? That, you know, when when a movie is meeting its milestones and not being delayed based on anything along the way. Yep. so, not necessarily fast track, but I'm glad to see it.
moving along and very much looking forward to see, Mando and Grogu outside of the volume. What a great piece of technology that was rampantly overused the second it was invented. Yeah, it definitely was. I wouldn't say it at a time when you couldn't film anywhere else. It was great. But, the reliance on it became to too heavy. And I think, you know, there's a nice blend for everything. So, excited to, like you said, see the extra money, see the extra quality in the production, dive into this.
And really, really take off for everybody. pretty pretty excited for that. we're going to shift gears into the anti superhero movement. Come as you talked about the top of show man. the boys season four trailer dropped this weekend. I, was, I wasn't expecting this, and I'm still. I like watching the boys, but it's always like, under the the the knowing the the thought that this is going to be heavy. and not fun to watch because it's not fun to watch.
And it's not supposed to be fun to watch along the way. Yeah, it's it's not a fun time. Like, since this is going to be so politically charged and it's coming out in the summer just before an election, like it's going, it's just going to be so intense. but it is one of those shows where, like the character, the bad characters, the evil ones, they're so brilliantly evil that it makes you root for the good guys so much more.
I don't know exactly how the story moves along throughout the comic book, so I can't tell if this is wholly unique to the show. But I like this direction that they're going. Where? Oh, the, the six. What are they called again? The seven. I forgot what they're called. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a seven. Yeah, yeah. Where they finally kind of just reach their ultimate form of just being like, like the Legion of Doom in a way of, like, they've always wanted to be in control.
So now they're going to finally take it and they're going to be wrathful gods, which has kind of been the subtext for Homelander, the whole. Well, now they're just making it. Yeah. I was, and it's really raising the stakes. Yeah. And I have to say, yeah, it's that shift. Like, you know, a corporate sponsored superheroes to, hey, there's one, you know, Homelander, doesn't he? He really can't be beat at the end of the day. So he's going to use that to his power.
But, you know, one of the things that they show, you know, Billy Butcher, he's the only they can open with like, a few months to live because of the I guess that powers stuff. He was taken right into the last season. So there's a ticking clock on him. some of the cool, the farm animals with the powers caught me off guard. I did not expect, like, chickens and sheep and stuff like that to, like, get the powers and kind of be vengeful. So I'm inclined to see that episode.
But a lot of the characters powers in this were were interesting. the I, you know, the thing with boys, they're always able to bring new power sets to the table without rehashing the same stuff over and over again. in this trailer kind of has some really cool ones throughout that, but it does sound like if you watch Gen V, right? I think, it does have some tie in to Gen V with the, disease that kills superheroes. It's that correct? Yeah, I forgot about that.
I, I will definitely yeah. Okay. On a lot of this boy's stuff. I was trying to think because unfortunately, one of the cast members of Gen V did pass away. So I don't know, exactly what's happening now with the show moving into season two. But I was trying to remember like, oh yeah, where were all the characters at at the end of that first season of Gen V? And I couldn't remember. And I don't blame the show because I liked the show.
The quality was good, but I think there's just too much going on in my life right now. And I will plug yet again. Just go on YouTube and look up recaps for anything that you're behind on. It'll really prime your book. Well. You didn't have to be behind on it. It's just been, you know, the boys season three was like two years ago, right? Two years between seasons kind of kind of gives you some time to sleep and think about other things.
So, my guess is that this is going to another being all episode dropped June 13th. So, sounds like June's shaping up to be a, busy month for for consuming consuming media across streaming services in the DC world. Mike, they announced the Batman Arkham Shadow virtual reality game. Have you ever played the, what was it? Ark Arkham Batman Arkham VR and all the original. The first one from a few years. Ago played any of them in VR, and I don't know exactly what this game is supposed to be.
The trailer is just kind of like a hype trailer. There's not even a hint of, you know, the gameplay in any in any way, but I, I would imagine if they had a previous VR game, they're going to model it after that. Yeah. So Arkham VR, I just looked at it came out, 2016 on PlayStation four, and it is a very much a first person like, kind of more of a puzzle game because you've played the Arkham games, right? Where you like, you know, you move around, you fight, you zip around and do stuff.
yes. But this one is more of a first person like, you know, story, through, like a detective mode rather than all the fighting and and hiding and stuff. So there's like a bunch of task. There's obviously Riddler puzzles and stuff like that. It's really fun. to to to play and do that, that with. So I'm excited to dive back into that. But I will say the, the sad asterisks on this is that it is only for quest three coming out the end of the year. And it had, James Gunn posted that as well.
So I'm excited to dive into the Batman The Arkham universe. Right. pre or. Yeah, pre the Suicide Squad game, because it's set in the Arkham universe is, really fun to be in, right? I love the atmosphere, the characters, how they've kind of twisted it into one thing. Those get that trilogy of games is just phenomenal. And to just go into this a little bit more, I think it's gonna be fun.
I will be curious if they have voiced over any of this Batman, or if they're gonna use Kevin Conroy or not in this one. because of his passing last year, was last year. Two years ago. How long has he been gone? Feels like. It feels like yesterday. but we'll keep you guys posted as more of this stuff comes up. but. Right, like, as you mentioned, we need gameplay right before we can make a make it call. Have you watched any of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, animated movies yet from DC have not.
Okay, well, the two parts are out for those who have missed it. Christ is a three part, animated, adaptation of the comic books, but using the, animated universes bring to other Batman beyond was in part two. you know, part one featured some of the other animated stuff. So the upcoming animated movie part three will feature, the return of Kevin Conroy's Batman, and Mark Campbell's Joker, which is, surprising.
but I know they've been working on this for a very long time to do three animated, full length movies they would have had had been working on this years ago, right, to get it done. So it seems like Kevin Conroy was getting a lot done, before his unfortunate passing. So it is it's weird to keep getting things from him 22 years. Like, you grieve the loss, but I guess you're you're happy that there's still a little bit more to enjoy. Yeah, yeah. And, it's just one of those.
It's the thing with the, you know, animation. We've talked about this, you know, they're not filming it in the anime the next week, and then we're getting it in three weeks. Right? They're recording all this of years in advance. And, I would also say the very similar thing to what was a show we said about invincible, right? They recorded a lot of that a long time ago, so they could line up the mouse and do the animation to the, to the dialog, much later.
So, it's, yeah, very, very sad that we've lost him, but, it's great that, you know, he has left such a lasting impression, not physically as Batman, but just, through his voice alone. So excited to to dive into that. I've not watched any of these movies yet either. I was going to save them for all three and just kind of do a three movie binge, or, if you will, for this, because DC anime stuff is still it's quality content coming out of them, especially, the adaptation.
All right, let's get into some Marvel stuff. We got rumors. we got some other stuff. So the first thing is kind of a rumor. Kind of not, the show. Agatha, we know is coming out. How holiday? by that, I mean Halloween, fall of this year.
and the promotion for the series looks to be about to be ramping up, and I will, share someone posted a photo, comparison on Twitter that the WandaVision logo, on the, social media accounts has been an all black WandaVision logo, now has half of, like, wavy lines and purple. So it looks like Kathryn Hahn's, Agatha, who has the purple motif is coming back into the real world, or they're going to be doing stuff on these accounts. Mike. Yeah, I always find it funny.
That's like somebody find the password for the for the account. We need to update the profile picture. Where is it? Where we write it down. The show came out so long ago. Yeah. I, you know, it's always it's always a fun little time. I appreciate your night. I appreciate your naivete on how social media works. Mike. That's I love that about you because they don't do that anymore. They, they buy in the one program. Like who has the Hootsuite password? Because that's where everything lives.
we're going to make one update across 40 accounts. So. So buckle up, buckaroos. We're doing this. but, I would never have thought to look at the WandaVision social profile, what, four years after the show came out and all. Like, that's a lot. That's the first thing I if I was, I was like, I'm following something that's been something that I've not seen in four years, five years. So, while they thought to to come back to this, but, well, if anything else pops out as well, we'll let you guys know.
I, I'm excited to kind of see what the official title for the show is going to be. We know we've talked about the, you know, how they're teasers with different titles over the years and, what that will do. moving on into some actual imagery here from, Captain America Brave New World. We have some new images. One is showing off Anthony Mackie's captain America outfit, which seems to take a lot from the Winter soldier. And then also, I can't think of what his name is.
The new Falcon who appeared in the Falcon Wear soldier. who's essentially taking on the Falcon role. If you if you don't know Chris, there's a small chance that anyone's going to know or care. I mean, this whole this whole movie for me, right? Anytime we get any news about it is just like, are you going to be able to make up for what you did to me with Falcon and the Winter soldier? And, his his buddy back there in the falcon suit? I barely even remember his presence on a TV show.
Or something like that. Yeah, that kind of sounds right. Yeah. So the fact that. Yeah. And that costume means, like, absolutely nothing. I mean. Yeah, I wouldn't even say it's a costume. I know they take it from the comic books and they've done a good job applying the green motif to like, say, you know, the Falcon. You know, when Sam Wilson gave up his Falcon identity, become the Winter soldier or Captain America. You know, someone has to become the fact that you really don't.
He's still flying around with Captain America like you, don't you just add more of these paratroopers, dude. So he's really just more of a paratrooper with the wings that, I mean. Like, to me, the concept of the wings is really starting to stretch the the credibility within the MCU. Like, the wings were like this experimental, like, kind of flight suit that Sam Wilson like, I think he knew of it. Or Black Widow, you use it. He he he he was somebody else in it.
The other dude, he had died because the wings didn't work or something like that. Yeah. So it's just like it was his kind of unique niche thing that he knew of. And it was kind of his only way to contribute to, cap and like Black Widow, like they were up against the wall and they needed some help. He's like, well, I can go grab this, like, flight suit, you know, I can make it work. So it's just weird to see it, like, keep going. Right?
It's just like, I feel like the second iteration of the wing suit is just like, just give this guy, like, a jetpack or something. Give him some rocket boots. I understand it's like the Falcon, and they want to continue that lineage, but it's just. It's just a little silly to me, seeing. It's like, do we need two guys with wings? Really? Yeah. Yeah. Well, exactly. I mean, it seems like they both have the same shtick. They. Right. except Sam has a shield. they're both not superhuman.
They both don't have powers. They just have the wing suit now. I mean, I don't care that the government has made more wing suits. Don't care about that. Doesn't bother me at all. They do have jetpacks in the bottom of them. But, you know, do we need another? The. Just because someone was promoted, we don't need to backfill that position in this situation. you could put somebody in there with a different power set or ability set, the complements, Sams rather than just copies it at the.
Do they. Right. So that that's going right. But you can take it for for those who he may be a big part of the movie, he may not even be in the movie come editing time. Right. with the reshoots. So there's at least that. And then the new other image we have is like a little artwork here, highlighting the Falcon, I guess, program. Maybe. we going to see Sam Wilson? Obviously, they're flying. They're not superhuman. They're going to be helmets at some point. So we get to see. Look at the helmets.
Sam's looks very much like an an eight man helmet. Like the the really, really borrowing the man helmet for the superheroes, like the main characters and, the new, walk wacky Torres. I just want to. I think his name is as it comes to me, kind of looks more like, you know, hell, diver, or, like, you know, something from Halo. At the end of the day. so it's fine. it's it's cool. Me so you can you can check out those links in there.
But now we're going to get into the rumor mill of this movie, Brave New World. So the rumor, Mike, is that adamantium? Are you familiar with adamantium at all? I wonder what it is. I heard about it. Yeah, yeah. Not, not vibranium, but adamantium will make its appearance in this film. And it has ties to that celestial corpse, from Eternals that we've not touched in. What? Also for years, like. The, one of my favorite movies of all time, Pacific Rim.
I just always loved what they did when those kaiju were dead at, like, it created a whole cottage industry of people, you know, mining the giant corpses of them because it's just like it felt like something that that would happen in real life, right? You know, you have all of this, like biomass. Somebody has got to clean it up. And since it's from another world, I'm sure it's got to be worth something. So this kind of gives me those similar vibes. So it makes sense. yeah.
And then with it, it came out of the Earth, you know. Guardians of the Galaxy did the same thing, right? They know where is the head of a dead celestial that they pump all the goo from. So, yeah. so maybe maybe they find a way. Maybe inside of this celestial is something different that maybe looks like nowhere. you know, maybe it's more organic inside the outside. who's to say, we've seen more concept art about the Red Hulk than anything than the actual celestial from this movie.
So this may just be a rumor, as we do get, Deadpool. Wolverine later this year. A lot of people are trying to connect the X-Men to the MCU. I don't think it'll happen until close Secret Wars, but if they want to introduce adamantium into it as something non, you know, I guess not organic forming somewhere else. you make it from an alien corpse at the end of the day.
the other rumor on this, I didn't have it in here, but it's interesting is that Japan is the first company or country that gets there. And, you know, they're like the character in the comic book silver Samurai. Is that Indian based samurai who fights Wolverine. So they're like, oh, maybe they send up some more Wolverine stuff. I don't I don't think we're going to see a lot of Wolverine things outside of Deadpool. Wolverine. But, well, we never know. Hopefully we can be wrong.
And, you know, they're reshooting this movie this summer. We'll we'll see if they keep any of this changes or if it, part of the new script move it along into Fantastic Four news. Mike, this was, this was news for you. And I shared this with you specifically because I know this was going to get jazzed. I can feel the energy. And the Phenix Star has officially added Paul Walter Hauser to the film in an undisclosed role.
Yes, yes, yes, I think we need to say Emmy Award winning Paul Walter Hauser from his, role in Apple TV's Blackbird. But you out there may know him as, the, the buffoon Stingray from the show Cobra Kai. He's kind of been popping up in other things here. There. He's just kind of this, I mean, literally, Chris Farley s character, because he's going to be playing Farley in a biopic, coming up soon, but he's just he's a great actor. He he's great. He's infectious.
I can't I love I love him in anything I see. So this is great news. Yeah. yeah, I popped in here. Just, for anyone else. he was, I believe, one of the the side villains in Cruella. If anyone has watched the Cruella. oh. Yeah. He was, like, a little. He was like one of the henchmen. Yeah. Yeah, one of the henchmen. He is also the voice of embarrassment inside out two coming out later this year, which is one of the new emotions in that movie. We're we're big fans of Inside Out in this house.
So I'm excited to see these are huge roles like right getting Fantastic Four and Inside out. So he's he's moving his way through all this stuff. I'm just kind of looking up to see he's been on AEW Dynamite and Rampage. So he's in wrestling make as well last year. So this is good good for him I think. Great. Great ad I think a couple things. my first thought was maybe, you know, he's a funny guy. He maybe he's the voice of Herbie.
Right? The robot they always usually tend to get, you know, Herbie is probably a very snarky robot, as we've seen in fallout lately. Maybe they're just snarky robots or people, like, thinks he looks like the Mole Man. Like like the MCU's version of the Mole Man. in these roles, I don't I think he's a great ad. Put him in either one, I don't care. Put him in both. He's he's a voice and a character. Mike what are you. What do you say that. Yeah I could see it.
Double dip your Paul Walter Hauser if you can. But, the Mole man was actually. I was going to add this because we're, I forget, right? It was originally played by the guy who plays the leader in, The Incredible Hulk. Samuel Sterns is the character's name. What is that actor's name? it's going to drive me nuts. you know, I'm talking about the leader in Captain America. And then he was in the Hulk. He was the the other scientist.
I can't think of a he's one of those faces, right where you look at him. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, he's. Oh, brother, where art thou? He's in holes. I mean, but like, he was originally playing the Mole Man in the fan four stick reboot that everybody despised and didn't watch. So, that's, that's funny that they would be, you know, bringing that bring him back to the old man and giving him maybe something proper to do.
I think he'd be a great Earth based villain other than, like, you know, doing the Silver Surfer Galactus again. We'll keep you posted. Avengers five rumors. Mike. This one was a really fun one to read this week. Is that the rumor? Are the main characters in this to lead this film? We talked about it being a smaller group have been decided as Captain America, Sam Wilson, Spider-Man, Moon Knight, the Hulk, and She-Hulk. Not, three of these, I would have guessed. The other two.
Probably not. Mike, She-Hulk and Moon Knight out of left field for me. Yeah. Wasn't expecting double Hulk's, but it does kind of make narrative sense that if one of them's there like we know the other one exists, they have cell phones and can call each other. So I would imagine writing a script with two hulks could be fun. You know, they could really cause some destruction. But you have got some big, heavy hitters there.
So you're going to have to have a big villain to go up against, you know, that requires two hulks. Yeah, that can be really fun. Spider-Man. I mean, that I feel like you could do some really fun stuff with Spider-Man, kind of finally, kind of properly being in The Avengers, because I can't even remember all of his little quips that. But he was always kind of like talking about, oh, do I finally get to be Avenger,
blah blah blah. I don't remember if that came up in, an Infinity War or Endgame like I was like, was he ever officially don an Avenger at any point? Yeah, I think maybe endgame. I think when he came back, when he came back from the dusting kind of thing. but yeah, like, they never really like, you know, didn't have a knighting ceremony for the Avengers. Yeah. So that could be fun kind of seeing him established in this.
maybe that kind of takes him away from this supposedly Young Avengers project, you know? Has he kind. Of. Oh, I don't think. Yeah, I don't think he'd be part of that. Out of it. Yeah. I guess maybe you can't be in the Young Avengers if, you've gone through your own trilogy and so much emotional turmoil, you, you've you've emotionally been elevated to The Avengers. You've been in three of your own movies, and then two Avengers and, Captain America three, which is like Avengers 2.5.
So, yeah, he he's he he can lead a team now. I think he's. I mean, go. On that. The best part when Spider-Man ever shows up in the comic books to like an Avengers, like a meet up or like, you know, anything in like, like Stark Tower or something, he's always like, oh, how how do all of you have money? I'm still struggling to, like, pay my rent. Like, when's the paycheck? That. I always thought that was really funny. He was. He's always doing it for a paycheck. He's like, yeah, he's a superhero.
But he's like, yeah, I'm going to need money to work with you guys to get the deal. Yeah. He was just always so out, financially, class by everyone else on the team, which, always, humor me. I mean, Moon Knight. I still have mixed. I have a mixed relationship. It's complicated with me. And Moon Knight loved his first two episodes and didn't like anything else after that. The character is cool, you know, he's super powered, so he fits in the team.
You know, he's already better off than Hawkeye was, you know, or Black Widow. He he also has the the, I guess the ability the the other realms. Right. Like different multiverses if you will. Like the where the the creatures exist in power. They're they're avatars and earth kind of deal. He which is. Multiversal. I could see him maybe just kind of having paranormal insight in a way.
Like where, like if something is kind of being freaky, you know, he could kind of like, weigh in of, like, oh, I've come across something freaky like this before. Let me give you my insight. I mean, the biggest, the biggest thing here, unfortunately, that me and you, Chris, we've talked about a lot on this show is, we, is this is the new Captain America, right? It it has, it has nothing to do with a different person taking the helm or, you know, Chris Evans not being involved in more.
We just, like, we just don't know something about Anthony Mackie just. Yeah. The twisted Metal show. Like something about his personality just does not scream. I'm leading. I'm sure he's a great guy. Yeah. As a person, Even if he's not a great guy, like, he could be the worst guy in the world. but, like, I can, he's just not. Oh, he's just not leading to me, and I don't I don't I don't know why. I don't know what it is about him. You know, like anyone else in the role.
Maybe. Honestly, maybe it's not his fault. Maybe it's just it's a big mantle to fill. And whoever is that first person in there is just never going to work. Well. Last time I saw the guy, I just don't know if he's leading the whole team and maybe who knows? That's the story of the whole Avengers five. Right? Well, yeah. And there's I guess here's the thing. Is Avengers five five characters? definitely not. Captain America is probably what the US government sanctioned hero in this event, right?
Like everybody else, doesn't seem to really be sanctioned, by the government. So he's like, you know, the US sent me here to handle this kind of deal, right? this this event. Maybe that's where he that's where he comes off at. Is he, like the Rick flag of this? Yeah, yeah. Probably one. Off, kind of. With the replay files. And then, like, Spider-Man, no one knows his real identity anymore, right? We've got that through Doctor Strange. Moon Knight is kind of a, I guess, world hopping character.
Like, I don't remember him being in America at all in the show. Like, it's very much Europe and Egypt based. So he's got that. The Hulk is the scientists, you know, originally hunted by the government. Now, probably the one of the remaining, maybe the, I guess the last Avenger proper, if you will. Like, who's been working out of the Avengers Tower or Avengers Facility campus and doing stuff for ten than She-Hulk, obviously. a lot of baggage for people just not liking She-Hulk.
And that's fine tune. The Moon Knight, Moon Knight and She-Hulk came out of the Bob Chapek era of Disney Plus, right? We can both attest, like those shows were rushed to production and rushed to get out. And you know, whether you like them, that's fine. Like, you can feel that at the end of the day, right? Like they don't really have an idea. They were just said, make a character. To make a character, we need more content.
And it kind of feels like, you know, you mentioned Moon Knight doesn't really have a home. She-Hulk, you know. Yeah. Great. Great humor, great small episodes, some fun stuff. But, like, how do we fit her in here? if this is the case and these are the character, I mean, treat. Where is Doctor Strange to me, right? Like that is interesting. where is your super heavy hitter with Captain Marvel and Miss Marvel? they are, you know, two huge, powers that had the most
one of the most recent movies. Maybe that's why they're little later. there's a lot of other choices, but these are five characters I would not have ever picked out of a lineup if you said pick your next five Avengers, pick five characters in the MCU, the who are still alive, and those are your next Avengers. These are not the five I would have chosen, and that might be the dynamic that works at the end of the day, right? Five very opposite ends rather than one cohesive unit.
At the end of the day. so I'm excited to to see if this is true and if that comes out of that. Now, the other asterisks on this rumor is that the the The King variant, but not Jonathan Majors, is rumored to still be the main threat at this point in time. they may have found a legal loophole to recast, King Mike at this point in time, which may be fun. Or, you know, maybe whatever.
Jonathan Majors contract was nullified, and maybe they can work this in now because they got, you know, until the end of this year to start filming it. Really. So that that would be interesting to see which King variant they choose to fight. These five Avengers. I mean, any any takers? Any ideas on that one? I'm always thinking like, is there any, like, legal line that's like, no other person can play, live action Kang and they're like, yeah, just make them fully CG will, will Thanos this and.
Well, yeah, you could do that. I get I think, you know, honestly, if if you just said someone else's name and it's not Kang, right. Like, you know, they could have said Vic. Victor timely and then not had Jonathan Majors because technically, technically, on paper, it's not Kang. Right. So, I this is a this industry. This rumor is interesting. I just never would have picked these five. And if, you know, if it's still a version of Kang. what? What are what are they fighting?
How are we going to get two secret wars at the American? Secret Wars is obviously the bigger title. That's where we're going to be. Coming up next is Secret Wars. The rumor is, and this is a good, good rumor, Mike, the film will see Tom Holland gain the black symbiote suit and will be part of that symbiote left behind at the end of No Way Home, where venom showed up in the post-credit scene.
This works out in crazy crazy well, for me, because the, one of the only CG DC comics I own is Secret Wars number eight. I believe it is. And that's the cover where you see Spider-Man in the black suit for the first time. And, I've been wanting to sell it because, you know, I'm just not really in comic book collecting anymore. I take I take donations. I'm kidding. I mean, it's a cool looking thing. It's just like, I just don't have much of an emotional connection to it anymore.
And I was looking to sell it and it's increased in value from what I bought it. So I've been looking for a time to sell it, and it seems like I wait until Secret Wars, when that's going to be the height of its popularity. I like a movie directly referencing. There's probably going to be like fan art or a movie posters that watch it. That's when I'm on the first trailer. The first trailer is going to have that shot.
You watch the the first trailer will show that, and then that's when you get rid of it. Then you put it on eBay the next day and just let let the numbers run up. They'll probably even once they confirm, like Peter's Peter Parker's even like in a like kind of like a pose of kind of like, whoa, what is this? I'm like, I'm wearing. So I'm sure they'll kind of reference that. So yes, that's my time. I think I got, I think I got it for under 200. It's CDC rated.
But the, the thing that annoys me the most about it is there's a crack in the CDC case. I didn't notice it until after I bought it, and I left the convention floor like it hasn't affected the comic book at all, but it's like very unsightly and nobody's going to want to pay the same amount for it. I think that's I think. It can replace those. I think I think get those replaced. Yeah. I think I have to like send it back in and everything and I'm sure they'll be like a nominal fee.
Who knows, maybe even they'll technically. I mean, if they're really at the CDC, consortium, you know, is really trying to uphold quality. They would regrade the whole thing because if it's cracked open, that means you could put anything in there. Like you could sell some stuff in there too. Yeah. You know, fuck it up. Well, if the crack is, is affecting the comic book, or like, there's, there's more than just one layer, right. It's on. It's still on the outside.
If it's affected then though, I think we graded. You were correct. But if it's not, there's a way for them to replace it without affecting it. Like just like there's like a seal inside that just replace a seal on the outside kind of deal. do you know what's the score on that? Do you remember? It's like a I think it's like a 9.8. It's a it's a good Jesus.
That's I mean, there's your there's your kid's, college fund right there, man with a 9.8. because I say if it was lower, I've seen grading people when they send it back and they can get a grade and it comes back higher. If it's better than than the initial, whoever the initial person was was grading it like a bad day or something. But 9.8 is pretty good, but didn't think about that.
But as you mentioned, Secret Wars number eight, if we get the black suit, you know, a symbol that's this is the time to do it, right? We don't need to do a venom movie. We don't need to do a venom crossover. They set up the the points pretty well at the end of, No Way Home. So let's let's rock and roll with us rather than try to do a Spider-Man versus venom movie. Right. so, absolutely. Would love to love to see that. That's great rumor. Rumor mill again.
Wesley Snipes has signed up to reappear as his daywalker version in a future Marvel movie. So the original blade himself, some motherfucker is always trying to ice skate uphill. That's what I hear. And, this this might be one of those situations. Wesley Snipes, you know, infamously on, blade Trinity would open his eyes for some scenes. So there's some CGI eyeballs on that. He was with Ryan Reynolds in that movie. Who's? Who's coming up to be Deadpool?
I think he he can come back in Secret Wars, but I don't think he's he's will not be in the blade reboot. Mike is where I would put it. Yeah. With this I saw this rumors start to percolate early this week, and then a lot of people were like, oh, is is blade coming back? You know, is it's just like that. We've been hearing the Mahershala Ali news for like it's feels like a decade now. Like 2019. Yeah. It's like actively in production. It's happening.
So obviously he's not they're not going to make a fresh start with blade. And it's going to be like a multiversal like team up thing. That's not going to happen. Yeah. So I imagine just like we've been talking this whole show, some sort of Secret Wars cameo, every bringing the whole bunch back together to fight another big bunch of something so that that's my. Yeah. Yeah, it could be a couple scenes. You know, this doesn't mean he's going to be a lead in a movie, right?
Like you, you you get, you know, Wesley Snipes, he's obviously aged out of this role since he played in 98. he's going to bring him back for a couple scenes, have some fun referencing him. Maybe he takes out some people with the sword. He can even get killed off if they want to. They move on, right? No one's losing sleep over, you know, a, an old movie, you know, version coming back for this. But it would be fun to see it, because blade was really the first blade
R-rated movie kicked off the Marvel Renaissance. Right? But the movie before that was Howard the Duck. I mean, Wolf, no one's winning in that situation. but, blade. But I also think it's funny that he was in literally a movie with Ryan Reynolds, when Ryan was a a vampire killer in Blade Trinity. So, Yeah, we got some rumors about Deadpool. Wolverine later. Maybe. Maybe he pops up in there, but I don't think I don't remember if if.
No. They had scenes together in Blade Trinity, so maybe maybe it's, they have a camaraderie behind the scenes we don't know about, but we'll see. We shall find out in the right. In the same vein as blade. The next rumor is that, Director Fatty Alvarez, who's, doing the new Alien Covenant, movie, and he did Evil Dead horror. Horror director is the top choice to direct The Midnight Sun's movie for Marvel. so it sounds like they're working to get someone that's probably a script.
A rough script for the project director on boards are working on this for a couple years down the road. Fetty Alvarez be a huge grab these huge in horror right now. Like, yeah. It's hard. it's hard to imagine a midnight Suns without Moon Knight since he's been established. So the it begs the question, what comes first? Midnight Suns or Avengers five or season two? of Moon Knight, you know well. And also well the the well, I would also say the blade movie has to come first.
so I would put this after Avengers. I would put this after Avengers six. Maybe blade sets up the horror. So I mean, I guess we'd have Werewolf by Night. I don't want to. I don't want to discount Werewolf by Night. It's a great movie. So some really cool horror stuff in Marvel.
but I think it would have to come after Avengers six, after blade, and then maybe The Secret Wars when the Earth comes back together, you know, they need to take down supernatural things in the world rather than just, hey, this guy was embarrassed by Tony Stark, and now he's a villain kind of thing. yeah. So, I'd be excited for this. I think that's a great game, Michael.
g I mean, Giacchino Jesse, you know, who did Werewolf By Night is a runner up as well because they were impressed with this work on that. and they should be, you know, as someone who's normally composer came in to direct that one shot. Fantastic work. So, I mean, that sounds the game sold really well, brought a lot of people into the horror elements of Marvel. I think this is a great thing for them to be working on, but I, as you mentioned, I would expect it any time soon for that.
Captain Britain is in the works and Marvel rumored to be a series, for Disney Plus. And it will be focus on Marvel's My 13 and Excalibur comic range. So essentially, British Avengers, if you will, kind of down the road, but like very much not world in same kind of deal. they kind of partially set this up in Secret Invasion, right? Like the British governments.
And then now, Emilia Clarke's character, who's a super Skrull, could really, you know, use to not reference that show, but I think that would help it by never acknowledging Secret Invasion. But it'd be great to be in another country other than in America, for once, to see how they're dealing with superpowered people. Right? Yeah. Just. Yeah. Might be a nice little pivot. Yeah. You brought up, Secret Invasion, which I was thinking about, too, because, Olivia Colman, right?
She was was, one of the, like, governmental bodies over there. I'm curious. This this also goes to show, like, there's going to be this new phase of Marvel where they're going to start just sweeping things under the rug. Right. You know, they can't totally ignore something that's already been created, but there's going to be lots of like, creative, like one line or dialog that just kind of Foley like, brushes an entire show away. Right? You know, we're going to have Sam Jackson.
Entire Chapek era under the rug. Yeah. Like the next time we see like, Sam Jackson in something. I'm surprised that didn't quite come up in, the Marvel's where there's just going to be a one off line that kind of summarizes what happened in Secret Invasion, but the like. Where's your wife at. It. Out. Yeah. Where's your wife at? Oh, what wife? Wink, wink. It's funny. So. Yeah, any sort of Captain Britain is going to have to deal with that.
But I mean, every time we bring up Captain Britain, we're always talking about some sort of multiversal dimensional. Yeah. He is. Yeah. Captain Burton is one of those characters. Like, he's in every multiverse. He's like a like a staple, of every multiverse or something like that. So there's a bunch of versions of them. so actually makes sense if they're not going to do a multiversal, because this sounds like this will be come out after the Multiverse Saga is over, that's even better.
Like, let's not that's not bring that baggage into this. Let's just this to say, hey, Captain Britain is the UK's answer to Captain America, right? They they decided they need a super soldier, and this is what they did and how they've kind of been using them, maybe like a James Bond or something along the way. And you know what? I don't I don't want to be Henry Cavill because sometimes I don't want people to have what they want.
And I see the photoshops, I see like, I'm just always like, maybe the best idea when you're trying to do something creative, it's not always the first thing that pops into your head. It worked well for Benedict Cumberbatch. That seemed to be the fan casting that worked well, but sometimes, like, well, can you go one step further and just think of something else that maybe would surprise us more?
well, here's the fun part about that is this week, Scott Derrickson was out there saying, like, they actually spent a lot more time with Joaquin Phenix, instead of, Benedict Cumberbatch. And then they found out, like, you know, he was almost cast and they were like, you know, this movie is not going to give Joaquin Phenix what he needs out of a movie for acting. So they went back to the drawing board, with Benedict. So I think that's funny that you actually brought that up.
but, yeah, like, fans shouldn't cast a lot of these characters. I guess I tend to agree with you fan casting I art. sorry, boss logic, I think you're great, but I don't believe in everything you you cast should be cast. So, Yeah, yeah, I think I think you can go, like you said, go back and get somebody new, get somebody interesting. That's not going to bring in a weight of expectations with that actor. So, we'll see. We'll see. Deadpool. Them Wolverine movies getting closer every day.
There's going to be something new, it feels like, on this, crisp. I believe this is Mexico is coming up. Mike, we've talked about this. so, some of the some promo art from there has come out says, Vaya con Dios, Deadpool and Wolverine. The Marvel Jesus himself has got the little candles with this crew around the mic. This is so fun. I love these. These are these are great. This would be fun to I could see these being in like a box lunch or a hot topic. for you to pick up. he's holding a little.
The little Deadpool doggy. The little show stealer, down there. Yeah. This is fun. Yeah. The beads are Deadpool, Wolverine color. He's got Colossus. We've got, the Monica. that's her name, right? Is that was that her name? This I can't remember. I don't know, no one remembers. That's not what they care about when they watch. Yeah. No, obviously there's there's, Wolverine and obviously Leslie Uggams is Blind Owl. surprisingly, I thought they would do dope bender on here. The the taxi driver.
you know, somebody else, but, they're leaning into some, I guess Deadpool two of the characters in Wolverine, seen Leslie Uggams in Fallout versus Deadpool is wild to me. It's like whiplash. her character's there. So, it's funny, but yeah, absolutely. keep coming.
Also rumors, kind of facts, but, like, they're reshoots in May for Deadpool, Wolverine, and nobody get your britches all worked up here because they're going to be adding probably last minute cameos and more secret surprises, things they don't want people to know about because the the the leaks on this movie are so leaky. Mike. There's, there's there's holes in all the the water hoses coming out here. everyone has said everyone's in this movie.
So we could lead to some very, speculated surprises for viewers, right? Like we're going to film a cameo with, like, three people and then put it in and post kind of thing. I think that would be really fun to surprise people. And director Shawn Levy is apparently pleased with the movie, and so is Marvel. And they they're not trying to fix anything. These reshoots just have some fun with it.
So maybe like again, saving some brand new last minute cameos that they've never announced her have not been leaked so far. I think it's fun. It's be great for me. I am excited for Deadpool, Wolverine coming out this July. and so to get to sit here and watch it, shifting gears, we got four weird things here at the end of the show. first and foremost is, Tron. Aries. Jeff Bridges, says he will return for the third movie.
So, that confirms that Trinity is not a reboot film like some people have speculated. but in fact, the third movie in the trilogy, starting with Flynn's Arcade and, moving, moving along, the way. So I don't know what role he'll have in this, but yeah. What a weird franchise just Tron is as a whole. Like, like it doesn't fit neatly, really into, like, any box that I can imagine. Like, they're just. How do we make a computer? Cool. I mean, that's what the first one was like.
Computers are new and exciting. Watch this movie where we go into one and it's like, well, we're not really going into it. And I and I don't know, it's all Tron has been like all about esthetics, like the whole time. so I'm curious if it evolves in any way. Right. Because Tron Legacy was basically like, the first Tron, but like with an amazing graphics card, right? So I would imagine it, it evolves a little bit, but maybe not a whole lot.
Yeah. I was trying to look up here like, you know, the budget of Tron one was 17,000,082, and then box office was 50 million. So not a huge winner overall. It seems like it's like one of those cult franchises. It seems to get more and more as it kind of goes through it. I don't even think Tron, legacy did that well at the box office either. It just had that banger, Daft Punk soundtrack right along the way. yeah.
I think the the critical response is a little like it was just kind of is middling most of all. Yeah, it's fun to revisit it, but like, this isn't like something like the public are clamoring for, right? Like, this isn't like everyone wants everyone to go back to Tron. and this one seems to be Jared Leto's pet project, which is even scarier because fucking hate Jared Leto. but, Disney seems to be going all in on Tron.
They they've got that brand new roller coaster, you know, a couple, several, I don't know, dozens of millions of dollars on those late cycle coasters at their parks. so Disney is going all in on Tron, so they must see some money somewhere like that. We're not seeing or some value, that we don't know about to be. Maybe there's like there's like stuff some like analytical person that's like a bookmark, for, Disney Plus. There's a numbers guy somewhere with a green plus. Yeah, he's a numbers guy.
He's got a green upward arrow on Tron for some reason, and we can't figure it out, but it's working, so people. Keep watching. More. Tron. Yeah, I like Jeff Bridges. I think have him coming back. The movie adds a little more legitimacy to this, and, makes me happy that it's not just a reboot film. This is Tron. Aries where rebooting Tron. But it's all I, you know? but thank you. Thank you, Jeff Bridges. Coming back to see how we tie this all together. Master of the universe.
Did you ever watch this live action movie when you were a kid? You know, I mean, Dolph Lundgren. I mean, He-Man in general, like, has not really connected with me over my life. I kind of put He-Man, Masters of the universe. Yeah, G.I. Joe, Joe, you know all of those toy attic shows kind of all fall under, like just before my time? Yeah. You know, I couldn't really quite latch on to it.
ThunderCats a little bit more because it felt more, kind of like, maybe like anime kind of adjacent and like the. So the, you know, the, the reruns would latch on to me a little bit more and they're a cat. So that was like, more fun for me. But yeah, this one kind of sails over me. Yeah. I did not have a He-Man, grandpa either, but I remember watching the original Masters of the universe much, much later in my life.
I say past ten, 15 years and just being, amazed that something like this could get made at that time. like I said, no one given, Courteney Cox, before she was a big actress, one of the first roles, I can't even remember who played Skeletor. And he did a great job with that. But. Master of the universe 16, another live action treatment. Travis Knight, who has directed Bumblebee, will direct the film, from, David Callaham script.
David Kellerman wrote Shang-Chi legend of the Ten Rings. So, pretty pretty cool. I don't I don't know where the audience is for this. I don't have that numbers guy telling me, yeah, we need more Masters of the universe. Are these toys still selling? I know Netflix has been doing those animated shows. so. Well, maybe there's some use here, but, Yeah, I mean, I included the synopsis.
I'm not going to read this out, but it does say a ten year old Prince Adam who crash on Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical power sword, the only link to his home on Eternia. I didn't think he was an alien who crashed on this planet, so it sounds like they're maybe trying to update a little bit to make him an alien, to go back to his, home planet to to bring it all together. So. Sure, he raises a sword, said I have the power right, and turns into He-Man.
Yeah. This seems like, this seems like a movie that is begging for, like, an audience surrogate, right? Like somebody from our plane of existence, you know, gets thrown into the madness. And that's how we connect to, like. And because I did try to watch some of the, the He-Man stuff that was on Netflix that came out because, you know, it was nice and polished, you know, Kevin Smith, show it's Kevin Smith. Yeah. And he and, they just finished the second one recently, right.
Was it like a revolution or. It was like the The matrix names, I forget whatever. But yeah. But it's like if I have no connection or like nostalgia for the characters, like, I feel like I have to be grounded in the world in some way. And it's just like, I don't care if Eternia, like, blows up or, you know, is it like in another dimension? Is it a planet far, far away? I don't care for the plight of Eternia because, like, nothing feels like it's lived in.
It's just like one big giant kind of rock wasteland where the these creatures fight each other occasionally. Yeah. You got. Yeah. yeah. Skeletor. Beast man. Many faces. I don't know who the good guys and bad guys are in this, but, you know, at a certain point, set from the early 80s that were trying to sell toys, they didn't have a plot. They made the toys and then built the show around that. Is that even is that relevant? Like why?
This is a nostalgia show, a show looking for an audience from 1982. So people 40, 50 plus. you know, I don't think those kids, the kids these days are going to get into this as much as they think they are. So I mean, unless there's a really cool He-Man app that transforms you into He-Man with the filter. Mike, I don't think they're going to care about this at all. So, probably be a swing and a miss, even though it's got a good director and a great script writer. So, we'll keep you guys posted.
This comes to fruition. And then just to get Mike's blood boiling, we're going to talk about Rebel Moon, Chalice of Blood. And you might say, what's chalice? Because I hate you, that's why. No. I'm kidding. chalice of blood is, apparently a new subtitled name for part one of the extended cut of Zack Snyder's movies. so instead of being part one, A Child of Fire, it is now part one. rebel moon, part one, Chalice of Blood.
So we're going to have even more confusing time trying to figure out, not us. Whoever else decides to watch these going forward. What the hell am I going to be watching here? Do I need to watch a child of fire? Do I need to watch Chalice of Blood? I don't know. Well, I read reading into this a little bit. This is going to make even more Matt whole before you get to freaking read. Apparently these extended cuts are set in different parallel universes to the original movie.
It's not even just the same thing longer. It's a parallel world. Yeah. Well, this is this is the snake eating its own tail. Zack Snyder, we know he was self-aware to a point, right? Where he would kind of like, you know, really gin up his fans. And that was getting him more of these, like, you know, justice League opportunities, you know, moving, you know, the needle through the streaming services. but now he's just like, oh, these people really want my director's cut.
My director's cut is scripture, it's lore. So now I'm going to plan on making two movies. For every one script I'm going to make the one that the studio wants, and then I'm going to save all these different bits, for the fans. And then they're going to love it. They're going to eat it up, and it's just like, you've lost the thread. Snyder. You are to make one, great product that everyone will love. I don't want to have to consult a Wikipedia to, you know, start to enjoy a franchise.
It's like and he's and it's like he wants it. Like he wants like the the the wiki page. He wants his own Wikipedia without doing the work of actually making an interesting world. He's just like, oh, I just want to make cool stuff that people will like look up. It's just it, it's it's maddening.
The only thing like, literally the only thing that would get me to watch this version of the movie is if we have here rated R for gore, sexual content, and graphic nudity, I can find any of those things I want anywhere else. very easily. Also repackaged and probably better, movies. Heck, all of that stuff is in the boys. we can watch all of that there. give me all of that stuff, Zack Snyder, and go crazy with it. I want the most gory, sexually graphic movie on the planet.
Just so when I hit play, I will remember what I watched, and it will at least be unique in a sense of like, I've never experienced that before, but like, if there's if this is like a, if this is like an unrated cut of like, you know, when DVDs are at their highest and they wanted to sell another version of the movie and it's just like, oh, you get like a little bit more blood and like, there's a side boob for two seconds, like, Snyder. That's not that's not enough. You have to.
You have to really, narratively change what I watched and. Oh, God, I, I so going to watch this. No, I'm not. I'm gonna go I'm going to go the other way. Insane. I don't think I don't think he has the foresight to do any of this. I think he's got a really good production company that does all this for him. Who who makes these deals and says, look, we hey, we went to Netflix. We got you for movies. deal with what we gotta do PG 13 and do whatever you want. The other ones.
I don't think he's smart enough, or I can't hate him because he's out there making movies and he's. He gets to make movies. Whatever he wants to do. I'm I'm I'm jealous. Really. At that point, he gets to do what he wants. But I did go through. I look up, I'm like, what are the Snyder verse fans saying on here? what are people out there who are so excited about, you know, sorry stuff? one, one person says, I love Zack Snyder, but please make this stop.
so you've got your own, the the I can't it's not nice. I like the fans are turning against this approach to how he's doing things, or at least how the production companies or their Netflix is releasing things. somebody else said, I'm going to keep going through this, dude is on crack. I respect the absolute insanity of it. so that's kind of go along with it.
You said, like, you want to see everything, you can now other people are saying it's an entirely different movie, like they did different shots for the R-rated takes. We'll have to see. We'll have to be we'll have to be proven on this stuff. But like, to change the names of these movies makes me like I'm concerned. Like, what is the logic behind that? Right? Like, why are you changing your movie name? Is it because it's there some legal hole and like one of the, what's it called?
The guilds out there. If you do four movies, you get more stuff, more payments, you know, is it, you know, you get more out of this. It feels like a weird loophole in a sense of, like, I always hear about all of these games that, artists on Spotify play where they're just like, oh, we're just trying to get to quantity. It doesn't matter about quality. We just want as many streams as possible and, you know, things like that. So it does seem like there's some something underhanded happening here.
And I don't think maybe and I don't think he's doing it. I think his production company is on making all this on the internet. Like like we get, you know, you go make your movies, we're going to make everybody else love you and cherish you and build your Wikipedia page, as you mentioned, kind of deal. Like, I don't think it's him. I think somebody is running behind the curtains and he's the front man, right? Because of everything he did at DC.
but wow, this is one I can't but I, you know, I know I knew it was going to frustrate the hell out of you, but I'm just so curious at what's happening to make this make this work in the day. that's it for this. This is going into spoiler territory. I have caught up on fallout this week, Mike. I did catch the rest of the fall episodes finally here, three weeks late. and I want to talk about this with you. So is that okay if we in the show reminiscing the back half of Fallout on Amazon season?
Absolutely. Okay. Full spoilers if you've not seen the show that is on here at this point, we we've said every time we're just gonna discuss the show, I want to say, you've been playing fallout four. Have you caught up in any more this week? I ever since we last a little, I've played a little bit more. I've learned what it's like to be encumbered with too much, with too much stuff.
I've, figured out how to store it and workbenches and, still at the beginning, but, there was an honest trailer that came out this week for the fallout series, and I'm. Not going to watch it. Yeah, I. There's some insider video game jokes in it, but I was just like, oh, I kind of understand some of these a little bit more now because I've played a little bit more of the game. Yeah. couple things.
As a TV show, fallout is like a six out of ten for me to be completely transparent in the back half there are it's a Jonathan Nolan thing, and I love Westworld. I like she wants from. But as a whole, if you don't have the video game surroundings, this sets up too many mystery boxes and too many questions, that they never answer or even attempt to answer throughout the show. Right? Like, it opens the whole show, opens, with the main guy, the ghoul, being at a birthday party doing the horse thing.
Right? Because he's been labeled a communist at some point, and never once in his 200 years that he's been here do we uncover why he's a communist. At any point in this show, they actually leave it on a bigger cliffhanger because he was listening to his wife say, we dropped the bomb, we need to drop the bombs to ensure Vault Tech maintains power. Right.
there's a lot more questions, and I will say I hated every time they went to the the sandy desert and use the same four broken buildings as, like a way to say you're out, you're not in a city, you're out in the open. And I'm like, is this the same shot from a different angle? Yeah. Over and over. Again. I'm glad that you brought that up because I wanted to I wanted to touch on that. But you were still working your way through this series. Like, this is a very expensive show.
And you watched episode two, obviously, because you finished it and they had that whole, old West. Shootout. Where and you have like the power armor there, you have this elaborate set of all this, like junk built up. You have all of these shacks, all everything felt very physical set. And I was like, oh, this is cool, I love that.
And then everyone's traversing in the middle of nowhere and it's like, I get it, a nuke has gone off plenty of times in Los Angeles and it keeps like evaporating everything. But like visually, it's boring as hell and also kind of stretching the credibility of finding things as well, especially since I've been playing the video game. Like really, they walk into one like, I guess it's like a doctor's office that's like half filled with sand.
And there's. The. Inside of the cabinet, like there wouldn't be. There's no stuff left in there. Yeah. Well, right. Well, exactly. Even even then, if that guy was like, oh, step into my office, he hasn't made that his office because it's too visible from the outside, like a lot of these people. And that guy was funny because he was a chicken fucker. And I thought that was hilarious. And he kept coming back.
But like it, you know, these people who are trying to live are aren't doing it very smartly. They're just kind of happens dancing along the way. I really didn't like the, the final scene. set either. Like where, like the cold fusion is going off and they can see out into the, the valley of, of Los Angeles. Right. And it's getting nighttime. I'm like, this looks kind of kind of rough.
I wouldn't say the the money was spent well on, like, making, Walton Goggins look like a ghoul with his nose off and all the other stuff. But, like, there are parts where I make the the scenes could have been written better and then had. And then therefore the scene dressing would be much better around it as well. But yeah, but. Let's touch on this McGuffin, because I was thoroughly confused about it. and I think I have a more of, a positive view of the show overall than you.
Oh, well, I think that's right. Yeah. Go ahead. I, I just think it really is probably stemming a little bit more from the fact that I don't really have any connection to the lore of the video games. So when I go into it, I'm not I'm not really expecting anything to be achieved. Well, I know, okay. But let's see what's going on here. So I don't take me out. I think it's a fallout show show. It's like an eight and a half as a regular show.
If it didn't have the fallout dressing, it falters even further because of everything. and that's where I say I'm like, it's is fine. It's fun, it's great. It's got the dressing like I understand it more, but like, if you removed everything, I'm like, this show is just okay at the end of the day. And, you know, it, it suffers from the. But like the, the, the cold fusion thing. Right? Where the dude's head, they need it to power, you know, shady Sands forever or something like that.
Yeah. I can look really like, it's like, I don't really understand the, the, the scarcity of electricity because we've been going, like, you go through this whole show and there's lots of there's lots of electronics happening, right? You know, these entire, fallout shelters are being run by like, fusion cores, right? They seem to be such, a rare commodity of, like, these things that can run these places for, like, 200 plus years. Right.
And we see evidence at the very beginning of the show that Raiders can get in under certain means. And people know that these shelters exist, but they're all under the ground. It just seems like more effort would be happening for people on the surface to get into these vaults, to get those fusion cores, because this person has spent their entire existence trying to get this cold fusion one off the ground, which I'm guessing is just the a more souped up version. Yeah, yeah.
So yeah, the regular, the regular fusion cores can power the suits in the vaults and those those are lost forever. But like, the cold fusion lights up an entire city, right? You saw all of almost all of LA. Yeah. Like that was one core. The entire wasteland of mad Max is 100% motivated on, like, these, these resources like gasoline or water, depending on whatever one you're watching. Right?
It just seems like people on the surface and fallout are just like, seems like they're getting along just fine, right? But, you know, things are just kind of scarce, you know, and you might get eaten by some sort of big monster or something. It just felt like, where is like the disparity that we need, this giant piece of electricity, you know, to get things going.
It just kind of seems like they're in a situation of just like, I don't know, like go find like an oil rig and start pumping oil again. Like, it just seems weird that over 200 years they haven't, like, figured out something else. So it just seems weird to revolve your entire season around this cold fusion thing. Well, I don't care. About I think I disagree, I think you can have it, but the reason there's no you don't know what it is and you know why they need to get it there.
The entire show, right? They don't tell you why this is important. They just say this is important. Get it there. They don't tell you what the benefit of this is at the end of day, right? Like bringing society back and spitting in the face of default tech. We're like, yeah, we got to kill everyone so we can start over fresh with only vault tech, you know, trusted employees. Yeah, that's fine.
But like, they don't say, like, you know, we can't do that if they have power or if they're living normally. Right. And that is part of the part in the show. There's a lot of mysteries. Why is mole Day alive 200 years later? Did she freeze herself or. She's not a ghoul? She didn't turn into a ghoul. So why is she still from the ghouls past and still alive? To do this? And then, like, there is no real reason of why we're trying to get there other like we need it, but not the why we need it.
At the end of the day. Yeah, it would have to be something like that. I mean, there's a lot of things that stick out from this show that I didn't like, but over. But overall, I think there's some fun, enjoyable things in the world of fallout that I like seeing adapted to live action. And I kind of get the feeling that maybe a second season is going to expand a lot on more characters.
I'd like to see new, fresh, interesting faces, because the one thing that I've learned about fallout after watching the show is there's so many varied experiences across the world and, you know, especially the United States, where the games have really been focused. And I find that very, I find it very interesting. And I want to see what they do with it. Well, they have one town called Philly, and then they also had, keychains. But, Shady Sands was a vault technically than a town. Right.
So we didn't really get to see any towns anywhere other than Philly. And that was like in episode two, right? So why don't we get to see these other towns and all the other people that have created these? Because when you play fallout, that's you're running from town to town, like encampment to encampment, right? And that's where you're going to come across those characters. So we didn't really get to live anywhere other than Philly, and they had some really cool characters in Philly, right?
The, the, the lady who gave them the leg and the, their helper and all this fun stuff. So hopefully in season two they do this but give us more answers and questions at the end of the like. They're just questions you set up and we don't even follow up on those threads and they're like, yeah, we we expect a season two.
I don't like that they didn't announce the season two at the end of this, like a week later, I'd be even more mad at the show because I'm like, you're saying that things questions that you don't get the answer, like you should be answering them and then setting up your next season as another question rather than, oh, we're going to be adding those questions to more questions. And for me, it looks like the next season will be what new Vegas? They really, really leaned into New Vegas.
There at the end with Comic Loughlin's character in that suit going to New Vegas. So it sounds like that game will be huge from that. Yeah, I couldn't really tell if that was supposed to be a hint at where the second season was supposed to go, or it was just supposed to be a nice payoff like cameo for fans, because I don't know much about what's happening in New Vegas.
So when I saw Vegas, I knew that the existence of the game, I was like, oh, this is like a fun cameo or something, and I. Think, I think it's New Vegas. The timeline works like the video game New Vegas is before this, so you're technically seeing Post New Vegas a video game whenever we get there in the next season. So which would be interesting. I like the show. I think a lot of stuff was brought to life really cool. It was yeah, there were some funny moments. There were some gory moments.
I do think some of the, the weird, the I don't like was the, the company or the religion that does the Mac suits the order. Yeah. Yeah. they're a little bit weird. some of the characters who filmed that stuff in episode one only showed back up in episode six. It just kind of wrapped up a little fast. I just think as a show without the fallout dressing, it's like a six. But when you include the fallout stuff and you're like, okay, there is more, there's actual lore, there's fun little things.
I think it does elevate it to like an 8.5, but I it's hard for me to just love the show right out the gate. But it is fun. It's fun stuff. And a lot of the actors, I really enjoyed all the actors in this. I think they were fun. I, did a great job. I, I'm very interested in, what's his name? The the comedian. Dude, I, we talked about, who who was the. He wasn't a knight. He was a squire. And then he became a ghoul there at the end. So, like the ghouls. Yeah. I can't remember that guy's name.
But Johnny Pemberton. Johnny Pemberton? yeah. Like he like that he becomes a ghoul. Like, you know how, like, how are people becoming ghouls in this world? You know, there'll be interesting stuff, and, Yeah, I want to see more. I want to learn more about this. I think that's the great part. I just wish they didn't leave so many questions on the table without answering them before the end of the film or into the into the show, like, especially I think the the big reveal for me is, the ghoul.
He's he's like, where's my family? Like so the there's the implication that his wife and daughter are still alive somewhere right out there. even though at the beginning of the show it looked like, you know, they were they were getting blown up. So I'm interested to see that. And, the son, her brother, is left in vault 31 with all the other people. So how is he going to get out of that situation as well? So, a lot of questions. more questions than answers. But I will watch season two.
I just wish it was just a hair. Hair more tighter on everything. Yeah, well, I yeah, I brought it up the other week with the Jonathan Nolan. He's, Not exactly somebody I. I'm willing to bet all my chips on. Yeah. I mean, I'm 5050 with him. I just wish someone would have been like, we need to do better. My guess is I knew there was a season two coming. Like it was greenlit well before it came out.
And then, like, they were like, you need to write two seasons and they should have just said, hey, there's more show coming sooner. Like whatever. They announced that, I guess. Right. Like we're committing to several seasons of the show. and that will give us some faith, but. Oh, well, at least he got everyone to play fallout. That's fun. It really turned up that they they came for that franchise, for everybody. All right, Mike, that is the episode for this week.
