Episode description

SHR # 2298 :: Targeting an RNA-binding protein to fight aging :: Dr. Davide D' Amico - One of the theories of aging, the mitochondrial theory of aging, was first promoted by Dr. Aubrey De Grey. Well this new research not only shows that when it comes to muscle function the mitochondria appears to me the main culprit. Mitochondrial dysfunction is also identified as main player in several neuromuscular diseases like Parkinson's, ALS and others. A binding protein called PUM2, when knocked out in rat muscles corrects these mitochondrial problems. ::
