Episode description
About sharing.
We can share all kinds of things; food, experiences, things. And we can also share ourselves. This is what we do when my let another person know what is going on inside of us, in the moment. “This is what’s alive in me right now.” Sometimes we do it by using words and describing our experience and some times we do it my simply living it fully, this is what young children do, they fully live and express what is alive in them in each moment. For me, this is a fantastically brave thing to do! It can be vulnerable, scary and awkward because we have all been hurt in different ways when we’ve shared ourselves with the world. What feels vulnerable is different for everybody, depending on how you where received during childhood. Some examples:
- You heard that you where “too much” when you expressed your joy and playfulness, so you became serious.
- You heard that “boys don’t cry”, so sharing your sadness became difficult.
- You heard that “good girls are not angry”, so your anger now feels like a threat.
- You where valued for “being smart”, so now it’s hard to admit when there is something you don’t understand.
The way I see it, sharing is a big part of growing. It’s a way to reclaim the parts of us that we’ve been pushing away into the shadows and when those parts are received the way they where not when pushed them away, it can be extremely healing.
I got an inquiry yesterday that I think is fitting for this topic: “What are you saying ‘No’ to in yourself in this moment?”
Warmly welcome to Friday meditation!
