Welcome to the Sounders FC pre match Show, present head by Providence Swedish. Today you're Seattle Sounders FC face the Portland Timbers. The Providence Swedish pre man show starts now. Welcome a dramatic Open Cup win on Wednesday, Your Seattle Sounders continue MLS action today and we welcome you to the heart of the enemy, Providence Park here in Portland, Oregon, where today the ra Green will face off against the worst shade of Green here in the best rivalry in American

soccer. So welcome to the Sounder's e FC pre match Show, presented by Providence Swedish, official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. Jackson felt here alongside Mins. Vita Mautaire of Cascadia Sports and mister Pete Fewing of Seattle University. We are counting you down to kickoff a little bit of an extended pre match show today. Kickoffs coming up here in about forty five minutes, and it will be Danny Jackson and Brad Evans on the call with Michelle Ludka down on

the sideline. That will be happening from a very hot Providence Park. It is very warm on this field today it's very warm down here in Portland, Oregon, and we are going to see what we expect to be a very hot, exciting match between the Sounders and the Portland Timbers. Let's just start, well, we got to get into a lot of things, from the Open Cup win, letting that fuel this team going into this game, to the lineup for Brian Spencer, A lot to get you here in the opening

segments. Before we do any of that. We are here. We're sitting up here just off the left of the press box, high at top Providence Park, looking down at a filling in Timbers Army. We know ecs and all the Seattle Traveling supporters are off to our right. This environment, Pete, and you have played here many times is listen. I've been. I've said many jokes throughout the week. I've made many statements saying this place smells

like burnt hair, Portland is disgusting, et cetera, et cetera. All of the joking aside, This is a pretty epic atmosphere and to be here again for it, for Sounders Timbers is it's special. Well, a couple of things. One, when I played here, there weren't hardly any people at the games that's a long time ago and burnt hare. I'm gonna go burn some hair so I can figure out what that smells like. But it is great to be here at Providence Park. It is a special place.

Phil Nevill talked about the fact that this is the best rivalry in Major League Soccer, and he's right, and he comes from you know, the English Premier League with his time a Man United, right, he gets it. He understands that this is a very very significant game for both teams, especially in the position that they're in in the table right now. But yeah, I just love coming down here. I'm honestly. You come in on the

team bus. There's a bus for the players, bus for coaches and our group and and just to see all the Portland Timber fans and the Sounder fans and the Timber fans. You know, they give us the salute that we've so used to seeing when we come down here. It's not that it's one finger minus a peace sign, I think, but we get it right, and it's a great rivalry and has been for a long long time. USL

days. Danny Jackson was talking about the fact that at one point they brought caskets in when he was playing, and names there, all their names were on the caskets. I mean, it's it's different. It's it. You cannot manufacture a rivalry like this and so uh and these games have been wacky, right they have been. The last year we got one nothing we think we want to win. We lose four to one. Right, we roll out a a Champions League banner and that just fires up the Timbers and they

pound us at home. So this is a game that brings a lot of energy. But Brian said that he's they got to make sure that they don't let the game get out of hand. It's a ninety minute game, but it starts as soon as that kickoff goes. And and I give credit to the fans Jackson, you said it. The Timbers army and then the the Ecs they come and droves and it's an awesome game for both programs, both

teams, both coaching staffs. Be a lot of fun today. Yeah, coach to your point, you know, I pointed this out to you all, and I wish I could take that picture and send it on the radio if we can do that. But it was it was Brad Evans was sitting to our left and he was just quietly looking at the pre match up,

the pre what's going on out there and what that moment. I mean, I was caught in time because it showed what it means to Once you're a Sounder, whether you're broadcast, whether it's a player, it never leaves you. This moment never leaves you. And I mean Jackson absolutely right. I mean the atmosphere and everything else, you know, the fans and coach everything else, but I think there's something about wearing the crest on either side of

this field, right, whether it's the Sounder or the timber. I mean, and hopefully you know the classic soccer term, you know, earn the right to wear that shirt is what we will see today. You know, it's interesting, you rarely Roger Leveck's the only one that comes to mind. You rarely see a Sounder go to Portland or a Portland player go to the Sounders. It just doesn't happen. And you know, this is where if you're a Sounder an ASL fan, this is where Tony Chersky. Unfortunately Stevie

Hunt stripped him right there. He would roll the ball out and he got stripped from behind. And the Sounders lost the NASL Cup in this stadium, so and it is a cool stadium. You don't see wood like these massive beams that are sitting above us right now. Uh yeah, it's just it's great and some of their their history to see John Bayin, Clive Charles, Jimmy Conway. It's funny. Nick Colbyn, right, yeah, it's great.

It's funny. You mentioned that it's a great opportunity to point out the ridiculousness of them making a MLS is back Cup champions banner twice the size of a Western Conference champions banner. Yeah, you're really good. Did a good job winning the MLS's back turn. Congratulations to your large banner up there hanging and your history. Good job Partland Timbers. But once again we are counting you down to kickoff for Sounders Timbers. Here we are just about now forty

five minutes away from kick here at Providence Park. I can't confirm again it does smell like burnt hair. You don't want to recreate this if you if you're a home peak. But there's a lot to get into, specifically not only with the scene setting being here at Providence Park, but also the fact that this is a Sounders team, Pete, you know, with I think

some decent momentum. It didn't come from a lot of the players that were seeing on the pitch today, but they were there and they were watching what happened on Wednesday when this team faced Louisville in the US Open Cup back at Starfires Stadium, and they won it in penalties. The final score was two to two. Through one hundred and twenty minutes, goes to penalties, goes eight rounds. In the eighth round are goalkeeper Andrew Thomas, who we see

warming up out there. He's not starting today, but we see him kicking the ball round besides Stephen Fry and Andrew Thomas saves the eighth penalty. It's his third save of the lot in the in the penalty kick takes, and then after he saves it, he waves off Soda Kedahara and says, no, I'm doing this myself. Brian and Tommy had talked about it. They

wanted Andrew Thomas doing it. He goes up for the eighth take, he hits it, and the Sounders win dramatically in the Open Cup there in penalties five to four to advance to the round of sixteen in the Open Cup. A lot of the first teamers who were seeing play today for the Sounders were there. They were watching it. Winning is contagious, right, and hopefully the just that fuel of seeing this team have a great result on Wednesday builds

into today's game against Portland. Yeah, a few thoughts on that that it was a very very young team. I don't know if only Rothrocks the one that Danny Massovski Leva, those are the only guys on the bench that were in that game. Dylan Tevis, Cody Baker, I guess was on there too, but the none of the starters from today's match except Alex rolled On hold On played in that game. But here's what I loved about it.

So it was the young kids and they had never played together. They're playing against the Louisville team that comes in six and one, so they are cohesive and successful and they desperately want to beat the Sounders in the US opening. By the way, John Bell two was in starting line. Okay, okay, So a couple guys, right, So the desperately one to beat the Sounders. They want to play in the MLS. So they come in a pretty well oiled machine. We come in a group that's playing together, maybe

for the first time, the resolve that the team had. We go up to nothing and then give a penalty kick and then a late eighty eight minute goal. But the resolve and the moxie that we saw in the penalty kicks, it was all the young kids that scored the goals for the Sounders, not the veteran players, right. And then to see Andrew Thomas did what

he did, and here's the byproduct of that that galvanizes the club. It goes from a first team roster of you know, twenty two to twenty three to a group of forty and now we're all in the same We're all in the same group. Ruidaz is high five and you know, the young kids that are out there on the field, in the locker room, I'm sure the jeiled that. The other part is those young kids want to play this first team and so they sent a message of commitment and work ethic that this

club stands for. And the older guys can take a lesson from that and say, hey, the young guys did it, now we got to do it. So there's a lot of positives that come from that. Win, and it was really fun to just see our young We started six academy players. That's a pretty special thing and pretty rare in Major League soccer. So yeah, great win, great momentum, and we rested a lot of guys we needed to rest for today. And I think the young kids, coach,

were really asked. They're asking questions of the veterans. Yes, right, because the manner of that win, right, it was gritty, like you're saying, it was crappy, and at the end of the day, it showed hard and those things there have nothing to do with talent. Yes, And I think they're saying, hey, you know what, this is what we're about. And I think it's it's really interesting for me. I think where this team is now going. Right, These young kids are no

longer saying we're young and you guys are first. They're like, whoa, you know what, I'm ready, it's my time, coach. You know what, We're going to make things difficult for you moving forward. We're really going to make things difficult because we're playing as a sounder. Yeah, it's a great it's a great point. I mean Cody Baker, right, the moment where Cody levels the Louisville player and then stands over him and does a

little like, you know, stay down sort of a thing. You know, that moment, that fight like, and he's a guy who's clearly pushing to, you know, get more minutes at the first team level as we hear the booze from Timor's army as the Sounders walking to warm up. But it's great. It's that mentality, it's that fight, It's that hunger, right and you want to I mean, it's it's Pete Carroll's philosophy. Right

competition breeds success. Right competition, competition, competition, and if we see that more and more, then these first team guys that we're going to get in the starting line up here in a moment, those guys feel that hunger, they feel that fight, they know these young kids are behind impressing. You're exactly right, Maz, and then you suddenly get that competition, getting better play and hopefully getting that intensity that you need in a game like today,

Pete, Oh, go ahead, Mas. He's out there a tank top and he's got the guns out. It's a blank tank top, black excuse ye, black, tanked up and he's the only one wearing it. And that that's a rud is thing. He doesn't wear what the rest of the team wears. And he looked we walked past him today, he had a thing in his eyes, yeah, he said. And I just went by and said two goals and he just we both thought we want because because when we got off the team bus, You're right, he kind of set

the scene. Both team buses line up after each other and the players get off first, and Rolls just kind of standing there. And as we both passed him west, we saw it. He has a look in his idea. Yeah, absolutely right. I mean coming out looking like you saw I sets Yeah. I mean that's setting a tone. And it's almost sometimes of basketball players where the team will warm up right along the crest there, you know, yeah, to kind of send a message. He's sending a message,

there is no doubt. Yeah, no question boy. And these are the games he loves, right, these are the big time players make big time plays in big time games. This is Yeah. Alan Hitton loved that line too. Okay, say it all the time. So yeah, it's funny you say that must because as soon as we go out, he looks different than everybody else. Yeah, the sun's out, the guns are out and it's obvious role is in your starting lineup. But Pete, let's get

to that Deltan starting eleven for Brian Spunchers squad today. Yeah, it's a four to two three one, very familiar to the club and to the fans. It's a Fryan goal. Alex Roldon is your right back, Bell and Regan your center backs. Knew who your left back. Ovid is on the right again today in the middle of the park, JP and Christian rolled on on the left side, Morris uh in the in the middle, Albert right underneath, Ruy Diaz, the guy in the tank top and the big guns

Oz. What is up Portland putting out today? All right, So here's here's what Portland's looking like. With Crepo he is there, net Mindo, You've got Zuperic, he's over the right back well, the two center backs Ky Miller and then on the left you have e Miller and then on the right Muscarra and then they're playing two in the middle, and obviously the incomparable Diego Jara is there in Paradis and then up top of you have Anthony on

the left, Rodriguez just to his right. More up top and then just to the right Moreno, and then we should know that on the bench day Ivanda is on the bench. I mean, this guy's got four goals in four assists. I'm pretty sure nevill Is it's not if I think it's when he's gonna put it in. It's a great point. Well, we'll talk more about Portland coming up in a little bit as we kind of shift a couple things around here in the pre match show. We're gonna take a break

and we're gonna talk about the lineup coming up in just a moment. Before we do take that break, let's quickly dive into the provident Swedish team health report because there are a couple things to note here. For the Sounders, josh Atensio is out with a hamstring he tweaked it in the match the US Open Cup match on Wednesday against Louisville Thing. He's out for a couple of weeks there for Josh Atensio. Also out is Nathan with a quad injury.

He still has probably another five to seven weeks. That just goes off of the six to eight last week that we got from Brian Schmitzer also brought dealer Rodriguez still out with a hamstring. Going into today. We had a few players who were questionable. Leo Chu was questionable with the groin. He is available for Brian Schmitzer off the bench today. Pedro de la Vega was questionable. That's good news up from out. He's now questionable with a hamstring.

Unfortunately he is not on the bench today, but he is here so he gets to kind of soak in some of this rivalry Sounders Timbers here at Providence Park. Pedro is here to kind of witness that. And then also Jamar Gomez Andrade with a quad injury. He was just questionable, not out questionable, and he is not available for head coach Brian Schenzer either off the bench. So that is our team health reports presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare

partner of Sounders i FC. We'll take a break. We'll come back and spend some time talking about Brian from Spenser's side and what we see from that lineup today and what we think that they're going to try to do against the Portland Timbers team that has given up a lot of goals recently. They haven't won in a while. We'll talk about the Sounders lineup and what we see from them today. That comes up next on the Providence, Swedish premat show

But when opening the windows makes the house hot instead of cooler. You got to go to plan B and win and needed to beat the summer heat and make her home feel comfortable. So she called day and Night plumbing and heating. When they came out, you just had to feel that they knew

what they were doing more than the other people that came out. It was just very reassuring. We asked a ton of questions even as they were putting it in, and they always had answers. And if the guy we asked didn't have the answer, he'd find someone on the job that did. When the job was done the last two hours, I thought, what are they doing down there? They were vacuuming. You could have eaten off that basement floor. You never knew they were there. I would recommend day and night

plumbing and heating without reservation. I have used them several times. Now day and enough summing and he's say goodbye to summer heat. With the ugliest shade of green you can imagine filling the seats here as it says Scusa Partland like, excuse us for this terrible shade of green. As Portland Timbers fans fill this

stadium, we have Sounders fans filling the sections to our lower right. Should be a lively game today in a very hot stadium. That's the other thing we didn't bring up really in the first segment at all. I mean Pete and mas P fueling my seat about of erat Jackson felt here on the Providence we just pre match show. He you down there listen. It might be

you know, seventy five, seventy six, seventy seven. I don't know what it is exactly temperature air, but on the field, on that turf, it is scorching right now, it is and they're gonna water it as they always do, and that makes sense, but that water is gonna evaporate real quick, and with with that rubber on the turf, it just brings in the heat. And so it was really really warm and you're right, it says seventy three, but on the field it feels a lot. I'd

say it felt more like eighty five, to be honest. So and no matter how much water they put on the field, it's not gonna stay moist for long. So sticky turf, Yeah, what does it do to the ball? Does does it make that pass you know that slide rule, pass faster slower? I know if it's rained, obviously, but what does this kind of weather condition is due to the passage? Well, we're watching some of the guys pinging balls and they're skipping right now, right because there's some

oyster on the field. But what it what it'll do is it'll slow it down, so your way to your pass. If you're hitting an entry ball or a ball in behind, it's gonna bounce a little bit more if it If it hits a wet surface, it skips. If it hits a dry surface, it's gonna bounce and come up a little bit higher. So that's in a big adjustment for players, it really is, and more so with

turf than grass. Uh. But but as we always say, same for both teams, so they just you know, sounders are used to this is probably one of the warmest days they've had in an MLS game in this season, so they'll they'll just have to get used to it. But you know, I know Brian and Phil Nevill aren't going to say, hey, listen, it's warm. If you make a mistake, blow it off for sure. Well, we are just about thirty minutes away from kick heare at Providence

Park in Portland, Oregon. Today's count down to kickoff is presented by Emerald Quin Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest, and to mention that the Sounders FC Socker is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Now, let's talk about that lineup for head coach Brian Schmitzer that we listed that previous segment. Or you have the Raoul Roridez and his black tank

top warming up. There, you have Albert Christian, Jordan Christian's playing back next to JP today, Obed Vargas has earned another star on the right wing. And then the back line where they're kind of filled in a little bit. Alex Roldan, who started in the Open Cup back at right back today knew who on the left, John Bell and Jackson Reagan and your center backs Jamar Gomez Androtti and Nathan both Out and Stephan fryn Gole. Let's talk about

this lineup, Mazo, I'll go to you first. The thing that stands out to me first is John Bell. We haven't seen too much of him. He got that open cup action looked good in that game. Of course that was Louisville of the USL. This is a big, big test for John Bell today. Yeah, and if I got this correct, his first start was against DC, so he has an everlest start and so I think that with Bell, Bell's gonna be fine. What I'm gonna focus on here,

I think what's critical is Jackson Reagan. His leadership is gonna be the key right here. And that is that normally we see Reagan being the aggressor, being that enforce of making that play. I think this will maybe catapulting

to be a different kind of leader. That is that he's gonna have to control the flanks, make sure knew who and Alex Rodan come back, will go up appropriately, and also that then he tells Belle kind of go up or not, because I'm sure Portland's gonna try to put somebody in between them. Right and then kind of try to play that offside thing. So that's one Jackson and coach. The other thing I saw is I find interesting is Christian Rodan next to Jap Paulo ll. Here's the deal. They Ryan likes

obit elt wide, he likes him in the middle as well. They will be interchangeable and it won't surprise anyone within the team if if within fifteen minutes and Brian doesn't like how it's going, Ovid will go in and Christian will go out. But they are interchangeable. They know they're interchangeable. So it's throughout the course of the game, you'll see Christian going out wide, You'll see Obed coming inside. Uh, he's just trying to get his best eleven

players on the field. You know, we loved Alec Christian Roldan in the middle of the park for years in his early days, Uh, you know, starting for the Sounders. So I think it's it's one of those things that they know that they can rotate it around. But coach is trying to get his best group out there and he wants to keep They've been pleased.

He's been pleased with Obed. Obid has been a bright spot. He has scored a great goal a couple of games back, and and uh and so we want he doesn't want to mess up any of that confidence or momentum that he's created. This looks this looks like they will attack from the right because that's a lot of speed those two. Yeah. Yeah, so but Sapolo and all but Rustic are gonna have to be critical to be able to get

the ball to the other side to Jordan. Yeah right, because and I don't know what the key is. Is Jordan gonna stay wide so that you're doing that or is he gonna cut inside? Because I think Albert Rusnik is gonna be the key here, Jackson. I think in terms of once they have possession, to distre meet the ball and make sure you're not one side of it. You're absolutely right, And we know this is a Pearl and Timbers team that has been giving up a lot of goals here over the last

you know, six seven, eight games. And really, for me, the thing that I kept saying all week was this game very simply comes down to one thing. It's cannon Sounders score. Yeah, because you know, we've seen an issue with that throughout the season, and just when you think all this team's finally founded, you know, Philadelphia game, montrealg and just when do you think they found it? Then they revert and have a game like the La game or the Dallas game, the zero zero games where things

don't work offensively. So it's it's sort of the question of, well, the real Seattle Sounders please stand up today, and who will the real Seattle Sounders feed today? We need for them to get a result. To see a coherent, excelling offensive group led by Rol, led by Christian, led by led by Albert, led by obit up on the right wing today, it needs to be everybody contributing to a successful offensive approach today. In terms of those Portland Timbers, we'll take a break, we'll come back and give

you the sharp vision opponent outlook on the Portland Timbers. This is a side that was way up after the first few weeks of the year and is way down right now. You'll hear about the Porland Timbers as we are live from Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. The sun is shining, it is hot. We'll continue next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Now back to Seattle, Sounders Sucker on sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM, Welcome back to Providence Park Sounders Timbers just about twenty three minutes away here on ninety three point three kjr FM, Jackson Feltz wants to get them out to era pfewing here with the Providence Swedish premat show, and it's time for today's Sharp Vision ponent AATLC as we're taking a look ahead at this Portland Timbers team.

Our ponent Alok is presented by Sharp Vision Modern leascon Lens, the official basic provider of Sounders FC well Portland Timbers. Right now, after yesterday's slate of Saturday games at Major League, Portland is officially the bottom of the Western Conference at two five and four. Now things aren't exactly pretty for us either. We are also two five and four, but we do top Portland in terms of gold differential. We're at zero. They're at negative three, so

not much better. They're fourteenth or thirteenth, both teams bottom of the Western Conference and needing a result. Today I mentioned the previous segment. Portland opened this season with two wins in a draw. They were looking really good. But since then they've kind of hit the trash can a little bit. They had a loss in Houston, loss of Philadelphia, Loston, Vancouver, three draws, and then most recently loss at LAFC and a loss in Charlotte last

weekend. Today mark's their first home game in a month. Pet This is the Porland Timbers team that you know, sort of like the Sounders, they're looking to right the ship. Yeah, no question that their first two wins you talk about were at home. Then in the next nine games, seven on the road. Phil Nevil was talking before saying, hey, he looks for this to be over the next fourteen games, a lot of home games to kind of balance out the schedule, and he's looking for this to jump

start that. And you know, you talk about where both teams are at the table. I know we've had games where we're number two in the West and Portland is twelve thirteen and they end up beating us. So a lot of the things go out the window. This is a team for Portland that they have scored twenty goals, but they've given up twenty three goals. Again, maybe being on the road has been a big factor on that. So it's a team that can score Seattle as thirteen goals for and then thirteen goals

again. So they've done a little better defensively, but not nearly the same production that the Timbers have. So this again, all these things aside, it's a it's a rivalry game like no other in Major League soccer. So a lot of that is thrown thrown out the window. And like Brian Smith said, don't let the game get out of hand from the beginning. And I think those first what eighteen to twenty minutes are going to be critical because

both teams, as you both soloquently said, are looking to score. So what what does that mean. I think that for the Sounders they need to take the initiative. Brian has always said that whether we play at home, we want to get that high press. I if the Sounders can get a high press, they don't have to win the possession battle in the first fifteen but kind of dictate the play and staying away from the self inflicted wounds.

I think that that's that's critical. That's what has to happen for the Sounders here. Well, the Timbers Coasek You're saying, they're playing at home, and for them it's like, you know what, we're at home. Nobody's gonna come in our house. We got to protect it. So they are also going to be pressing. So you might see a couple of quick goals here. Jackson, you might. I love that you pointed out the first

eighteen to twenty minutes. I mean, for me, along it the other way, because last time that the Sounders were here, it was the last exactly nineteen minutes four goals, giving up in nineteen minutes. I mean, Pete, we were standing on the other side of the catwalk and I remember just kind of consistently we were looking at each other like this isn't this isn't

real life right now. And what I love. In meeting with Brian Schmester earlier today, was asked him, like, you know, this team, what happened last year giving up four and nineteen minutes and losing four to one. Can they take that to heart? Can they let that leave an imprint and use that as fuel to say, you know, we're gonna take that

lead and we're not going to let it up this time. And he said he's gonna bring it up the four to one last year because for me, that well, no matter what the score is, whether it's tied, whether the Sounders are leading, whatever, it's that last nineteen minutes where you know, we look at Timbers Army it's packed today and we know these these fans

when things start moving downhill for the poland Timbers, things can happen. So not letting that happen no matter what the situation is, whether it's tied, whether you're leading, whatever. Not letting that happen in the last nineteen you know, exactly nineteen minutes, right, avoiding that for sure. But Poland Timbers have to have some good players. Obviously, they spent four million dollars. Should be mentioned on a new forward coming Jonathan Rodriguez at a club American

League a MX. He hasn't done too much statistically yet this year. Anthony is a good player six to one twenty two year old Brazilian winger who they brought over last summer. That was a three point two million dollar deal. They have new attacking players. Phil Nevil goes for it. This could be a moss As you mentioned seeing two early goals in this game, we could see four early goals in this game. It could be one of those days for Sounders Timbers. Well take a break here, we'll come back and we'll

hear a little bit from head coach Brian Schmetzer. He caught up with Michelle Ludge prior today's match the Provident Swedish premat Show I head of Sounders Timbers here at Providence Park and Portland continues next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. After I figured out the top rated TVs in our price range, I went shopping for deals and who's the best. It wasn't the Internet, and it wasn't the

Warehouse Club, but it was Video Only. They had better deals on the Samsung LG and the Sony TVs that got the highest scores, better than online and at the club, I know, video Only beat them all, and now we can afford an even better model for this se price. Now back to Seattle, Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM. Welcome back to Sonny and Hot Providence Park down here at Portland, Oregon, which will house Sounders versus Timbers today. Another chapter in this epic rivalry story that goes back of course

all the way to nineteen seventy five. All right, let's take a look here at an interview with Brian Schmitzer, who had the chance to catch up with Michelle Ludka prior today's Matt. Here's what the Sounders head coach had to say before Sounders timbers big match today against Portland. What do you need to see your team do to come away with three points? How about the simple answer? Have scored some goals? Well, look, we need to try and keep a clean sheet. That's number one. Score a timely goal.

Sometimes scoring goals, you know, the timing of the goals helps. Like when Rolls Scold scored early in Philadelphia, I think that kind of boosted the team. We can score first, I think we can control the tempo a little bit better and just you know, just play up to their potential. Both the Sounders and Portland find themselves not where they would want to be in the standings coming into today's match. How do you think that'll add to the

rivalry and the tenacity that these games always bring out this years wide. Look, both squads are desperate. Portland certainly at home. Feels like Dave had some long road trips recently. You know, seven out of their last nine have been away from home, so they'll be they'll be coming back here looking for the win for sure, and we're going to try and ahead of all Cascadia Cup matches, you always make a point to talk about the history that

is so special to this club. What can you share with us that you'll be saying to your players before they take the pitch today about this historic rivalry and just how special it is to the Pacific Northwest. We had a spell there at one three in a row, and then we've fallen off a little bit, and it's about time we focus on that a little bit too, because that's an important rivalry between three franchises and you know, it's certainly something

worthwhile to shoot for. Raoul ruy Diaz has an MLS record of twelve goals against this team, the most of any player against Portland in the regular and postseason. Are you expecting a standout performance from him today or can we think that he'll be adding to that itally? I hope. So, Look, he's gonna need help. It's not just about one guy, it's about the entire group. Raoul certainly has had success against Portland but Dempsey used to score

big goals and big games. Freddy Montero has been here and scored big goals and big games games. So it's going to take all of us, you know, to help get a performance tonight that we can go home with three points. Brad Evans had some interesting stats and he did some research about how much hotter it is on the field, whether it's the turf, and it can get ridiculously hot to hear today for Sounders and Timbers. Let's get into our Western Washington Honda Dealers players to watch and find out who will drive good

today. Who do you have driving a good performance for the Sounders today. I'm gonna go with Albert Rusnik and Brian said he's got to be clinical and is finishing. He has seven game winning goals last year. He's got to do it. It's got to start right now. He's got to get his goals. Christian Rodan. I'm looking for him to go from end line to end line, push an offense, comeback on defense, and push turnovers. Rolredy has for me a twelve MLS goals regular and postseason against Portland since joining

Seattle in twenty eighteen. That is the most against the Timbers of any player in MLS history. He scored in this building last year on across from Obed Vargas. Need to see Rowl and we saw him walking in. Need to see that clinical eye and see him come up big here today for the Sounders. In terms of this history, this is the first Darby between these teams

in twenty twenty four. In MLS regular season history, these teams are all tied up right now, fourteen, fourteen, and nine, going back to twenty eleven, now dating back to two thousand and dating back to nineteen seventy five when both teams were in the NASL. Seattle leads the all time series fifty six, forty six and seventeen. Hopefully Sounders can get one more and the wind calm in that. Today we'll take a break here, We'll come

We've got to get our crosses in. We've got to deny crosses and then hey, the three guys that we all picked as our players to

watch are all attackers, right, but we got to defend. We've got to make sure that the back four does their job, has a clean sheet for the first forty five minutes, and then regroup at halftime. In other words, a complete performance. Muss. Yeah, and I think that as a team, those two we talked about. But as a team, you gotta be courageous. You gotta be dangerous, tenacious, no self minimize yourself inflicted wounds, and you have to execute when you get the chances. You

have to be clinical and finished. Here we go, the fireworks lighting off. They're gonna be honoring Diego char here today at Providence Park. We'll see if that gives a little out of momentum. Welcome to Sounders FCSUCKER Today You're Seattle Sounders FC face the Portland Timbers. Sounders FC soccer is brought to you by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. Regent's Dream Team is presented by Regent's BlueShield, proud partner of Sounders FC. Now time for Sounders Fcsucker Sunday afternoon and Happy Mother's Day to

all those wonderful moms out there. We are here at Rocking Providence Park in downtown Portland for the biggest derby and MLS between your Sounders and the Portland Timbers. For Portland, they finally come home after playing five of their last six games on the road and results haven't been good, with their last win coming back in early March. They are desperate for their season to get a kickstart,

and what better time to do that than against their art rival. For the Sounders, they come into this game off the back of a three game beaten streak, but any form goes out the window in this matchup, and it's the Sounders who have struggled in recent years, having not won in the last six games versus Portland. Brian Schmetz's men won't need reminding of the importance of a result with the Sounders fans singing to our right and the Timbers army

pack in this famous old stadium. The stage is set for the one hundred and twentieth game of this great rivalry where players have become heroes with the kick of a ball, a game unlike any other in US soccer. It's Sounders Timbers. My name is Danny Jackson in the booth tonight, all this afternoon, I should say, with former Sounders Captain Brad Evans. Before we get to Bradford's initial thoughts, let's get you the starting eleven, the Delta.

Starting eleven for your Sounders Stephen Fryan, Gole a back four, rolled On, Reagan, Jonathan Bell and Neuho in the middle of the field. Jao Paolo will play alongside Christian rolled On on the right hand side, Obed Vargas in the ten, Albert Rouznak, Jordan Morris on the left and then Ral rudiez As. Your number nine for the Timbers is Crapo and gol a back four, Mosquerra, Zuperwich Miller and then Eric Miller on the left hand side.

Barredas plays alongside Diego Chara in the middle and attacking three midfield of Moreno, Rodriguez and Anthony and then Felipe Mora up front. So Brad as the players get huddled in the middle of the field, get ready to go. What are the sounds after in that first fifteen minutes of this big game. Well, Steph is saying right now, all right, boys, we got

nothing to lose tonight that throw everything out the window. Since Portland's come in in twenty eleven, the Sounders haven't finished below fourth place in the Western Conference standings except for twenty twenty two. Portland's been all over the place. But when these two teams play together, it's always something special. I got to talk to Valari before the game on the field, and the first thing he said was, you remember that four to two victory you guys had here.

So everyone has their own bit of history that they bring to it and that they remember, and we've had some famous victories here, and at that time you throw everything out the window because you never know what you're gonna get. Similar to playing at Starfire, there's always magic, and in this stadium when

these two teams meet, there's always fireworks. Sound is in the change Bruce Lee kit tonight attacking the goal to our right, and then the Timbers are in the road city the Heritage Rose kit attacking the goal to our left, as JP getting ready to go. Just to pause, and here we go, one hundred and twentieth game of this Portland Sounders rivalry. Is Cray pro

has it. He's gonna launch it long right on top of Alex rolled on back in the lineup after serving a two game suspension after a red card against Vancouver, and for the first time this afternoon, we're gonna throw it down to Michelle and most importantly Michelle at very happy first Mother's Day to you, Oh Danny, thank you so much. I appreciate and you know what I want for Mother's Day. I want a Sounders win. I want to go

home with three points. And earlier today I spoke with head coach Brian Schmetzer about today's match and he said it was simple. He's keeping it simple for his team. What they need to do today is keep a clean sheet, score a timely goal, optimately scoring first, and then they need to play up to their potential. He says that both squads come into this match in an interesting position, desperate as they sit at thirteenth and fourteenth, respectively in

the Western Conference standings. So as any Portland and Seattle rivalry match goes, anything is expected. It'll be a fun one here today at Providence Park. Yep tanks of Michelle, yet both teams sitting on two wins, five losses, four ties. The ball gets built with Miller getting zuper Rich. So, Brad, we've talked about it. Where's the vulnerability of Portland Certainly probably

in that backline, especially in the two center backs. Yeah, they've proved that they could score goals, and usually they do against Seattle the past couple outings. But tonight it's about the Sounders exposing the center backs for Portland and the outside backs. You have Eric Miller here on the left, who's an MLS veteran, a bit of a journeyman. He's found a good home here in Portland. But that's one that Obed has to smell and get after him

because Obed's a guy now playing on the right hand side. Eric Miller hasn't seen a player like him on the pitch this year, I don't think. And Raoul's been a killer up top and he might be sleepy for thirty forty fifty minutes, but you give him one opportunity in the box, chances are he's gonna put it away. He saw him in warm ups. He's got the cutoff shirt, he's got the guns out. This stage is always set for an Oba a Clint. You know, the big players always show up

in these and so. But to your point, it's time for Jordan to come out of his shell and put in a good performance away from home and get this hump off of his back, get the ball in the back of the net. Well. The difference between the players is in the stats. Twelve goals out of the last sixteen game against the games against the Timbers for Urids. One goal for Jordan Morris in his sixteen games against the Timbers since twenty sixteen, and that goal came in his debut season. So Jordan Morris

is definitely due a couple of goals. Here comes new towards the end line, cuts it back, cut out well by paraders over the end line. First corner kick for the Sounders. Well done by the Sounders getting forward all it takes sometimes a little bump pass from a midfielder to come across and know who, using his strength and power, gets down the left hand side I think if he hits that ball first time, then the defender doesn't have to

it doesn't have the ability to track back and face the ball. He takes an extra touch Sounders with a good early corner here to keep the pressure on this Portland Timbers back line. It's gonna be resnek when the Sounders left in swing his right foot. We've seen good delivery from the Sounders in recent weeks,

haven't been able to get in the end of it. The More goes short this time to Alex Roldan corner of the box, is gonna flick it towards the back post, drops in, bounces once over the end line, so stretching Vargas is playing a little bit more advanced on that right hand side. Brian schmetz Ha talked about the ability that Vargas has to glide past players,

certainly coming into his own over the last four to six weeks. And don't forget last year in the four to one loss, that first goal from Rudies put the Sounders up, came off and assists by Vargas fall into the feet of More near the half way line, pressured by bell flick of the left foot by Parade switched to the point of attack to the far side the right. It comes Mosquito attacking right back. It's gonna clip it towards that back post up and over the top. Paula Timbers asking for a corner kick

from our advantage point here high up in the stand. Obviously came off. The Portland Timbers player goes over the top. Goalkick remains nil nilk. He's early on here. The Portland Timbers using wide play, swings in a good ball, similar to what the Sounder saw against DC with ben Teke. Just lock that ball in the box and give you a striker, you're a big striker, an opportunity to get on the end of it. But now it's about the Sounders. What Schett said is let's play our game. Let's play

in good possession, catch them on the counter attack. Just be smart. Overall, loose ball by Russia had the chance. Sound has brought the initial pressure from Portland got out well as they start to build that light Pink Jerseys sacking the goal to our left. They run it down, cut through matches off Alex Roldan. Nothing given by the referee, just as you'd expect to hope for in a derby game to be fast in fear as picked up by Eric Miller top of the box. Rodriguez new signing in the offseason. It's

gonna challenge it. Alex Roldan hits off the shins of Rodriguez. Rodriguez came in was a DP signed in March of twenty four eight seasons in League MX. He won the ballon d'Or in the twenty one to twenty two season. Lots of pedigree, but off to a reasonable start in his first MLS campaign

with two goals. The ball gets knocked forward by Jackson Reagan into the feet of Rudiaz does well with pressure from Camal Miller goes to the far side the left of the Sound does nothing available down the line for New comes back to Jonathan Bell, who got his first start as a Sound against DCS a couple of weeks ago. Ball down the left hand side. Morris in the box got an opportunity outside of the foot tried to find Ruy Diaz isn't able to

connect. Ball cleared by Eric Miller, but finds the foot near the halfway line for Jackson Reagan. Good turnout of pressure from Joe powup to Alex Roldan driving forward on his right hand side, go top of the box to Ruidiaz, tries to clip it to the back post, almost catch out. Craper gathers it well, throws it out quickly to Mosquero, who's scored the fourth goal of that fourth to one win last year. Here drives forward, similar position as that fourth goal, tries to slip it in behind, well played

by combination of Jonathan Bell and New who goes over the end line. The goalkick sound is even the sixth minute Providence Park ninety three point three. KJIFM schools Neil Neil bred Evans so that Sounders attack starts from good calm play here in the back from Alex Roldan finding Jackson Reagan. Then what's the outlet right? It's Raoul checking back into that space and spinning, switching the point of attack Knew, who doesn't see anything on I think in games pass. He

tries to push it forward, but good patience there. Then you maintain some possession. Oftentimes you don't see that straight ball, straight run work out too often, but on a dry pitch like this, it's hot down there, twenty thirty degrees hotter than the air temperature and Jordan exposes that space a good

little slit ball, good sustained pressure from the Sounders. Now what I like about new Who and Jonathan Bell is that combination is going to provide cover because we know that this Portland Timbers team is gonna try and catch you on that counter attack, but they have the speed to negate most of those runs from

the Portland Timbers Wingers. Paul gets clipped down the line by JP vonk has putting pressure on Kamal Miller came in the off season into Miami, knocks it down the way miscontrolled by Alex roldand Brian Schmidzer just organizing his team jacket off

today because he's bathed in sunshine. Certainly, Providence Park has been the backdrop of many an exciting game, and remember the goals from Plandempsey of course, and all those other great Sounders and Brad Evans I'm sure has many a story to speak of Roger Levett getting chopped down by certain Nate Jacob after scoring him inside the first minute over a decade ago. Now spor goes back to Eric Miller, a couple of players out for Portland Evander there tallis mun DP number

ten on the bench today after coming back from some injury. Four goal's forces on his year. Flick forward by Diego Matchimmraino goes back all the way to Stephan Fry. Sound is playing a little bit more direct in these opening minutes. Spor gets launched along to Camal Miller cushion header to this near side the left with Eric Miller as they start to build and Brad we saw the fuel getting watered down trying to put some it's part of evaporated. Now it's gonna

be a sticky surface. Yeah, it doesn't matter on these pitches on these days, no matter how much water you put on the pitch. It's mostly just for warm ups to let the guys think that it's gonna be a cooler day. But once a game gets going, this water evaporates within seconds and it's hot. It's hot, but both teams have to play through it. Right. It'd be different when you play in Kansas City or Houston where they're used to being in the heat and you go there and that's a real advantage.

But for both of these teams, we're three hours apart. Is a twenty eight minute plane ride. It's the same conditions for both. Neither team is used to playing in the heat. It's about who wants it more. At the end of the day, it comes to Vargas driving forward inside the box of Jordan Morris one be one versus Uper's George's right foot blooked and eventually covered. Assistant flag says a referee, flag goes up. Referee sees it

eventually, but it's nice to see the referee though. In open plays mean a couple of challenges where Portland have looked for fouls, nothing given by the referee. It's a Darby game, right, He's gotta let things play, he's gotta let the crowd get into it, he's got to let the players feel that gets a Darby. If he's calling tickie tag fouls at the beginning, it's gonna be a long night for the referee. So I think good

on him, right, You let the play develop in. The guys know right early on in the game you're looking for a foul in your own eighteen. It hasn't worked out for the Timbers quite yet tonight, But on that play I love bobed Vargas playing out here on the right hand side, finds himself all the way pinched inside, and that's the power that he has as a youngster right to just nudge off the defender and it's a good slip ball. Jordan has to do better there because he sees the whole line. You

gotta be on side. Bull gets clipped up in the airby Knew who far side the left, sound is you mentioned attacking the goal to our right and their red shirt black shorts, black socks, who mentioned it being so good to see the traditional colors if greened the light of green vista darker green potentially, but both teams in the way kits. The ball bounces down. There's nar side with Alex hrold On for a full ninety minutes midweek against Louisville captain

the team. They have at one penalty and the ball bounced up on his arm. But other than that, Sound has managed to scrape out a fantastic result. If the backdrop of an amazing before much by Andrew Thomas, good little play by start to set by Ruy Diaz, hooked up in the air by Eric Miller, no nonsense ball headed up middle of the park, brought

down by the Sounderson Rusnak. He needs to have a good game today, A little quiet so far in his season as he's taken over the number ten role for me ser Nico Ladero. Sounders build well, caught in possession, recovered by Roldan. Eventually the referee gives a flag. Timbers fan, players and fans not particularly happy. All goes on the deck. Sound is gonna take a breath and as they take a breath from this free kick, we're gonna throw it down to Michelle. Thanks Danny, you hit the nail on

the head there with her point about Albert Rusnak. All eyes have been on him the last couple of weeks as Brian Schmetzer has challenged him to really take the reins of this team, make it his team with the absence now of Nicholas Ladero. And he pointed out today in our production meeting Brian Schmester that is that Albert has had seven winning goals last season. Well, we're a third of the way through the season this year and he hasn't had any.

So Brian Schmeszer said, we need to see him today. We need him to a loud presence, make himself known and hopefully get one of those game winning goals today. Yeah, thanks Michelle. Of course, let's not forget the first game of the season down in La against LAFC. It was Rosnaku got injured the training session the day before the game, so he his preseason. It's all for nothing in some ways, but came back a month or

so later, still try to find his feet. Three assists on his campaign so far, as Michelle mentioned, no goals, which Brian Schmitz will hopefully expect his number elever to turn that around today. As the ball goes into the foot of Vargas right corner of the box, challenge combination of Anthony, who's back in the lineup tonight. Five changes for the Timber since their last

game, two in the loss to Charlotte. It's gonna be Christian Roll Dane's gonna clip it towards the back post, headed up and away by Zuperich, headed further forward by Anthony and then picked up this near side the right with combination of JP too alex Ordan down the line towards the end line is Vargas inside the box. Good challenge by Kamal Miller. Ricochet's away Jonathan Bell picks

it up near the halfway line. Sounders are good at Bill eleven men behind the balls, Portland to day just banking in and Phil Neville having taken over the reins in the offseason form it into Miami head coach trying to stamp his certain level of play in his way that he wants to play more possession orientated. Maybe if he has passed separation, he likes to play high tempo, high press, counter Tex style. Many of the same players are still in

this lineup. This is exactly what the Sounders want right now. Sustained pressure away from home. I remember games coming in here even in years past. For this Sounders team coming in. It's constant waves of pressure from Portland early on in the first ten to fifteen minutes, and all of a sudden, you're thinking, here we go again. Right, it's a great start from the Sounders. Sustained possession. Move the ball around. Timbers are going to

give you something if you keep that ball and you're smart with it. Right, we're already seeing turnovers from Portland miscleared headers. You pick up the second ball, you give yourself a great chance in this game. Now it's about switching the point of attack. Already seen ten fifteen passes on this right hand side. Now how do you get out? Is Rudyers top of the box, pressure from behind from Rodriguez. Paraders tries to go in from j B

to the feet of Rudy has and here come the Timbers. In transition Jonathan Bell get a hold up Mora inside the sound as half of the field goes back. Good defending. Good patient defending from Jonathan Bell, company, Shi Chara Paraders their Brosnat doing his defensive Dude just coming back to pick the pocket of a Timbers player as Fargus tries to wriggle free. Eric Miller does a good job defending this near side, right in front of Phil Neville. It's

Anthony Tak gangly left winger. Came in last year getting a real good run of things in this Portland lineup before going off injured. Three goals to assist on his year so far. As Eric Miller picks it up halfway line, it's near side the left sound as just patient defending, just allowing the play to happen in front. Certainly years have played four three threes. The ball

gets flipped int towards Rodriguez chest down tomorrow and there's the opening goal. We'll see if the assistant refres Black goes up nothing given and the Sounders get caught out and it's the Timbers who go up here in Providence Park, Poland one sound is nil. It's a great ball from the right center back, just stretching. But if you're a center back for the Sounders, the first thing you're taught to do when you see anyone on the field put their head down,

You take five yards and drop back. When you're trying to play Broddilio Rodriguez offside here and you don't see up Jackson doesn't look over his shoulder. It's a good run in between, and Jackson doesn't even look behind his shoulder to see if anyone's there, and Zuperrich just picks him out, puts him on a chest. It's an easy chested ball across little square ball. In a follow up, Jonathan Bell nowhere to be found, and the Sounders,

after such good sustained possession, heads are down. Who's the next one? It's new who'saying, let's go, let's go, let's go with the Sounders to give up a cheap goal like that, They've been so good defensively all year and more again finds himself on the end of one and I'll give the Timbers confidence for the next ten to fifteen minutes. So it's up to the Sounders now to get into this game. What will it be I think in

the first five minutes from this it's stretching the point of attack. Put the Timbers under pressure, don't allow them to get any sustained possession on the ball. And as the sound is built from the back, just taking a breath. As a Portland Timbers put some high press, we're going to throw it down to Michelle. Thanks Stanny. Obviously a beautiful goal by the Timbers there.

I want to point out that Portland has twenty goals now twenty one goals so far this season coming into today's match, it was the third most in MLS, but they've allowed this second most goals at twenty three, so hopefully the Sounders can capitalize. It's falgust down the right hand side. Yeah, thanks Michelle. Sounders of course went up a goal last year in this fixture and then it was Portland who responded with four unanswered gold in the last twenty

minutes of that game. The Sounders do what the Timbers did last year. I think it's a good start Brad, you know, comfortable in a lot of ways, not much happening in the attacking third for Portland, and then all of a sudden, just the flick of an eye, it's all the back of the night. Well, what do we know about this Portland team?

They love a counter attack. They're strong, big, big strikers, right Mora and Rodriguez up top, and they know that if they get in behind, the runners from the wings are just going to press forward and press forward. And it's well done. Portland's playing within their game. They kind of lull the Sounders to sleep. But like you said, maybe Sounders a little bit too comfortable there. They'll get their opportunities. This Portland defense will

give them something tonight. Now it's about taking advantage of those opportunities. Jonathan Bell in possession, Sounders ideally need a respond There's a long way to go. Don't have to find it in the next few minutes, as we know, the next five minutes. So when a team is most vulnerable. Sounders

of course have been caught out at that time. But they've scored and they've given up against Santose a good switch of the play into Alex Roldan trap back by Anthony into this nick right corner roll don lets the ball roll over the end Line's gonna be a Sounders corn cake. Good response from the goal remains Timbers one sounds Neil dranavans that smart play Sounders dictating a little bit of pace. But then it's a long ball that releases. Yes, it's hot,

but the game the ball will dictate the run. Right. If the ball's hit you got you. You have to run. You have to be determined to getting behind, and what you're rewarded with is a corner kick. Expect this one to come into the box from Jp and as Portland Timbers defenders set up in his own straight across the six. Now it's about darting runs. You have to get in front of every single runner that's lying in Zooper Ridge Miller standing, it's really tough to jump straight and head the ball when you

have runners coming across out. Singer by JP Bull top of the six, headed up in a way, finds the chest of Alex rold on top of the box, rolls it out to the far side the left, so Rudia just shifts it to his right tries to clip it in. You're defending by paratus. Now trold On looking for some support, finds the foot of Ruidiaz. It just rolls out of pressure, finds new just twists away from Rodriguez.

Who God is this little loose from the ball by the sounders, but hit him the sounds fast side the left overload with fogus and support of rolled down. He's looking for halfy out of space. That deliver ball goes in. It's a Christian role dot striking it back of the nets. What's a response from the sounders and it's Christian roll done? And what happens when you shoot from outside the box to deflections? Anything can happen. It's a fantastic

move from the sounders. As Christian celebrates expecting his first child. But the sounders again good sustained pressure. Alex Roldan finds himself on the left hand side, patient patient, patient, and Christian comes out of nowhere. I don't even think it's a pass that's meant for Christian and takes a touch. You have a hit from outside the box and all of a sudden defender has to stick his foot out as we watch your ball gets played back. It's good

possession. Ruth Snack steps in little slip ball, shoot from distance. Good things happen. It's a great strike. Put your head down, put your foot through the ball. For Poe obviously expecting that ball to go to his left. It takes a little step, maybe comes off a Sounders player actually, and in that instance, and we'll see if this one gets looked up. Yeah, I think Jordan Morris looked like he was maybe in behind the two center backs, but was at the outside play on the far side.

The keptain Omen try to see the replayers, the referees just listening to his airpiece, but the Sounders needed something from someone. It was Christian rolled On with his fifth goal if it stands against the Timbers, his first goal on this campaign, and as the referee just walks around try to figure it out, we're going to throw it down to Michelle. Yes, thank you, Danny. This is exactly what I was talking with Brian Schmidzer about before today's

match. Of course, we know the big famous goals of this rivalry from Clinton, Dempsey, Oba from and Martin's Freddie Montero and of course Raul ruy Diaz, but coach says, it's really the team effort. It's all the lead up all the other guys that really help make this rivalry as intense and as big as it is, and they might not be the ones that you remember from this rivalry, but they certainly make an impact and that was something

that coach really wanted to see from his team today. Hopefully this goal does stand because it was a beautiful shot by Christian Roldan, as you pointed out, his fifth goal against the Timbers, which is second all time and the Sounders behind Raoul Rui Diez, who, of course you said, has twelve goals against the Timbers, which is the most inn MLS history for any player

against this Portland team. Well, we're looking at the replay. The referee gives the goal and from the vantage point we saw bradn You explain this one. It looked like he was half a yard even a yard behind the back for it seemed to clip off his heel and that's what misdirected the ball passed Craper, but referee v Are saw nothing and lo and behold Sounders back on the board. It's Sounders tight things up here, Portland one, Sounders one

here in the twenty first minute. What a response once for the men in red and black today. Well, look, it looked to be Jordan that may have gotten the touch on our replay that we saw, but it may have come up with Portland Timbers defender. In the end, the err takes a look and well done by the Sounders. That's a response you want.

And you knew that this game wasn't gonna end one nothing Timbers. It never does as more looks for the foul here, anyone looking for any sort of advantage in this one, and so Brend as they build out the back and almost get caught. We've seen this a couple of times. It feels like with the amount of emotion in the stadium, you get back on track, getting a goal back, maybe finding those channels and just relieving that pressure and

not giving away anything cheap. Yeah, well everything is reset at this point, right, So the Sounders can almost take a breath of sorts and say, okay, we're back in this one. And it was such a quick response. Now the Sounders can stick with their game plan because what they did in the first ten to fifteen minutes, they had all the time in the

world to create chances and keep the ball. It sounds in transition. Jordan marsh is whipping past, super Rich puts his body between ball and players seem to nudge Jordan Morris off who's in full flight down the left hand side, and again the referee gives nothing, which if the case of a sound is fun, you'd love to see a free kick there. But from the standpoint of the game, referee lets it go. Let's Brett Evans mentioned Darby game. Expect to see the physical side of it. Alex rolled on, step

in little late, nothing given by the referee. Paradis goes down this side. Eventually referee gives the foul. See if it's a foul or if it's gonna be a throw in. Yeah, certainly a foul, and Alex rolled on With this referee at least he's consistent so far twenty twenty two minutes into this game. In any instance, though, this game can get out of hand right now, it's the referees responsibility when those fouls come in is call them right for either team because you want to see a good game played.

And what Schmet's talked about in the production call, we got to keep eleven guys on the field. Been bitten three times this year with red cards. It's led to a two to five starts of the season. If this Sounder team has consist and eleven guys on the field, they can play to their potential. If they don't, we've seen what has already happened this season.

Marino into Chara was awarded today after playing against ELFC and April for the play with the most games of any individual MLS player at individual club in the main State. The foundation the rock for Portland Timbers over so many years since their introduction to the Lead League in twenty eleven. As Anthony couple of step overs, double team by Vargas and Alex Rodan. It's what the Sounders need today. Support from each other and a hot, sticky day down on the field.

Sounders back in it after a goal from Christian rolled on and we need big time players to step up in big time moments. The Sounders got that as new let's h drop it's not gonna have a chance of running out over the end line as it gets bundled over and the scare just Baiales knew who out We dropped the shoulder. The ball bounced ten yards from the end line from Advanta's point. Brad, I hope that was gonna roll over, but Who takes the pressure goes down free kick sound As remains one one. Huh,

it's new Who. So you never know what's gonna happen. And in that instance, the ball has no chance of going on the line. But that's what new Who does. He always tries to shield the ball out of bounds, but when it's dry like this, there's no certainty. Yeah, it's a wet pitch. He let the ball skip out of bounds. But when you're isolated one v one if you make one tiny little mistake, and we've seen it already this year with new Who. He takes these chances that

are so risky because he is so strong. He thinks he can recover on every play, comes out on the better side of that result. But I'd rather see him be strong and clear that ball from the beginning. Get it out. Certainly Steph will be thinking the same. Al Troel gone pocket picked by Rodriguez, assists man on Morris Golds. Anthony strikes forward left corner of the box. Good tracking back by Christian helping out his brother on the right

hand side, back to Jackson Reagan just sound as building. Maybe find a way to get the ball down the line as Jackson Reagan does just that, launches it down the line picked up by Kamar Millock cushion header towards Diego Chara, no pression, the balls able to turn middle of the field to shift it from center to the far side. The right to must scare it.

It's going to be an ever present attacking right back algoes digle. This time Jackson Reagan does a good job of reading that play Headson clears the ball, Sounders building out of the bat well. It's a combination of JP and new who around Moreno. The Sounders FC socket is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Get here in the twenty sixth minute Providence Park, Downtown Portland, one hundred and twentieth game of this wonderful rivalry between the

Timbers and the Sounders started back in nineteen seventy five. We celebrate our fiftieth anniversary this year with the Vancouver white Caps and San Jose, and it will be the Timbers turn next year. There's nothing more. We beat the Timbers for our anniversary, so that's always a good thing. It's Vargas gets the ball, plays it square this near side right from the sounder's bench to rolled

On. Sounders just patient in possession. Sixty one percent possessions so far for the Sounders, so it feels like it's good falling itself into a traditional and typical Patland match. A ball goes in top of the box, slipped away by must Square off the toe of Rossneck. Was a Tigler ball that almost found a combination of Rosneck and Morris. The Sounders have possession, attacking third of the field. Rolled On plays it into Vargas. Good defending by Eric

Miller, but the Sounders are gonna build again. Eleven men behind the ball. Ball goes to the top of the box to Rudyes, tries to wriggle out of pressure. Timbers win it can Jonathan Bell hold up, Moury does a good job, just drags him down. Nothing given by the referee. They come the Timbers all just bouncing around or slop here in the middle of the field, say some referees. Flag goes up. Referee eventually calls it. It's a foul. The Timbers they get it going quickly. Here come

Portland in transition Paradus. He's gonna try and find Anthony Good defending goodness positioning by Alex Roldan rolls it back to Stephan Fry. Were well done from the Sounders what we've seen so far this game. There's a little bit more bite in this team today than we've seen in games. Pass, a willingness to get into every tackle, fight for every ball, and make the right runs.

Jordan knows he should be wider when the Sounders have the ball here on the right hand side, but in certain instances he's looking for that opportunity to come across the right back shoulder and into that space. And with Jordan, he's a player. If you don't hit him the ball three out of four times, it's gonna stop making those runs. So credit to Jackson looking for

the switch and when it's on, it's on. It almost worked in the Sounders favor there, But continue continue to do that, Isolate Jordan, get him hot the best you can. JP has it. Middle of the pub. Sound as patient in possession as they try to find another opening. Can they find something from distance? Sound is typically not known forsh striking the ball from distance, like the build get the ball out wide combinations as Alex roel don't try to nip in behind, Anthony almost gets it. Anthony step two

the ball, it runs over the end line. It's gonna be a goal kick for the Timbers. Here in the twenty ninth minute ninety three point three KJR FM, wherevery listening to us on the radio on the app SYNCD up with Apple or even Fox. We appreciate you joining us. Big big game, no bigger game in MLS. They're trying to fabricate darbies at times throughout the league. Nothing can match this one. Do you hear the emotion and

the noises. Sounders pick it up with Christian Roldan Goalscorge just clip towards the back post, flicked away by Chara, right place, right time, launched down the line by Mosca, A good powerful header by Jonathan Bell just gets over Mora. And as we saw with Cody Baker in midweek, Brian Schwetz loves nothing more than a good challenge for miss defensive players. We welcome to

the darby Jonathan Bell. And this is a player we knew that was athletically gifted and now it's about patients on the field to being in the right position

at the right time. All goes in behind, Anthony does a good job of recovering the wingers doing his defensive duties, clears the ball and conventionally cut diagonal across his eighteen yard bocks picked up by Morin, who loads it back to Mosquaire, who just clips it to that man again picked off by the Sounder's good place to pick it. As they get towards the endline left side with New nothing on does a good job maturity for New who goes to Jordan

Morris, Sir Rosneck left corner of the box, goes square central the field to Christian, rolled on down the left hand side to New Can he get that towards the end line? Clips it in nothing give my assistant referee headed up in the way bounce in the eighteen yard box. Rosneck tries to pick it off JP does as it rolls out the far side. It's gonna be a timbers throwing, but good sustained pressure from the sounders. Bred Evans, Yeah, I think on that one Christian puts his hands up or knew who

the balls just slipped in a little bit behind. But I think it's better for new who to be put in a situation where he has to hit the ball first time and it's well swung in and Eric Miller doesn't do the right thing there. He hits the ball back across the bar. Sounders pick up the second one, but it's about at least challenging for every ball, and now you pin back the Portland Timbers push every one to one hand side and keep the ball here. Win the second balls and the Sounders are done all

afternoon. Timber's lorn, shit long with the right hand side. Just can't take a breath in this game. It's just full pelt up and down the field. Both teams on a hot, hot day here in Portland, sticky surface, as he mentioned one one between these great rivals. The ball gets flicked in, headed up and away by Kamal Miller. It's gonna bound two, three, four times over the end line. Sloppy giveaway for Portland. It's gonna be a Sounders corner kick on that far side the left will Portland

Timbers they want to press forward, but they're only going with Mora. And then Rodriguez is kind of slowly coming in behind and not really playing with a true number ten. And if you don't do that against a four to two three one, JP's gonna find the pockets. Christian's gonna find the pockets and it's been too easy for the Sounders to build out, especially with Portland being at home. Portland one of the worst teams defensively from set pieces, Sounders

and they execute. Paul goes in towards an post, flicks away top of the box, Bell bounces a round by Ruritiaz. Eventually goes wide to the post corner kick. But what's a chance for the Sounders and Ruritiaz inside the eighteen yard box well swung in by Albert here Low, and it's actually Rodriguez that gets on the end of that comes to the top of the box. It's well struck with the left foot. He'd like to have that one on his right foot. It pinballs around, but the Sounders doing everything right.

If you take your shots and put them anywhere on frame. As a defender, that's our worst case scenario. You're thinking, if I get a foot on it, I hope it's clean, but most likely it never is. Good. Lesson to young kids, just hit the target. Anything can happen. Alex Roldan's in support right corner of the box is gonna be shall Pollo

two arms up in the air outswinger. It's near side the right with his right foot whipped in top of the six head it up and down by Jordan Morris into the hands of Craig Post Gonna release it quickly for Anthony in transition on the brake, brings it down touched her. Rodriguez plays it into Anthony top of the box, strikes why slide it? But in transition Portland's show

how dangerous they can be. It's a gold Kate remains one to one, but Brad Evans this is where this sounds have to switch on and this is where you keep three players back at all times because at the end of the day you are two for one. But we know that the attacking team has the advantage in that situation because if Alex goes up for the ball, misses it all of a sudden, it's a two v one. You have to almost double up and double down on those balls on corner kicks. Because we

know that Portland is so dangerous. We'll take a water break right now. As it is, like we said, it is toasty on that field, something we rarely see up here in the Northwest, but a great opportunity for the Portland Timbers, and I think that he'll be asking a lot of questions of himself how he doesn't put that on frame, sends it wide to the target. But that's a young player over zealous. You got all the fans sitting in front of you want to score the wonder goal and be the one

to go up to one. And I think he has time to take another touch on that one. Well. This copyrighting audio casts of Major League Soalcer may not be retransmitted, to reproduce, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. As we look down, players take a wa to break. Mexine Craig Poe is getting a little attention, goes down the deck. As the players take a break, we'll throw it down to Michelle. We are also familiar with this rivalry, as you guys have stated, it's

been going on for years and years, decades and decades. But you know who's new to it, you guys, is Timbers head coach Phil Neville. This is his introduction to this derby, and speaking with the media, he said that this rivalry match, you know, you're always playing for more.

In those you're playing more than three points. You want the bragging rights, and Brian Schmetzer told me pre match today that he would like nothing more than to spoil this opportunity for Neville of course, again his first taste of this

historic rivalry match. Well thanks Michelle yet but no, He's certainly been in many a derby game, of course, over five hundred games played in the English Premier League Formniester United and then later in his Everton so Liverpool was always the thorn in his side for the men United days, certainly called the better of them this at Enfield, Old Trafford and then that Mosey's my Darby.

He got a taste of that as well as an Eviton player. I'm still waiting for Schmid's and Phil Neble to get into it, to really welcome Phil into this Derby right, all the days of Caleb Porter and Ziggie getting after each other, and yourasees have a raise always big and boisterous. Phils obviously, like you said, has played in a number of Darby's. It has been around Sir Alex Fergus in his entire life. He knows how to conduct

himself even in derby games. But this game will have its bite as guys get tired, they start to get a little bit lax on their challenges. You don't want to make the run, you don't want to defend well and really work that five yards beforehand to do the extra work, and that's when the shirt tugging comes in. That's when the sliding comes in. I'm sure we'll see much of that. Shortly, Sound is in possession, plays the

ball down the loine, just almost finding the channel. It was rude, Yeah, I try to wriggle free of zuper Rich, but good step by this timber center back. Sound is gonna build from the back again, a little short ball from new to roll down. It's Coldland just taking a breather as they drop off. Sound is able to build from their half of the field. Alexroaldn is near side. We you see his run down the line, try to get involved as the Sounders fan out and Jackson Reagan in supporting

his right hand side. Alexroal Dan's sitting in front of the assistant referee. As Beshal mentioned, this is the one hundred and twentieth game between these two great clubs. Sounder's lead with fifty six wins against Portland Timbers forty six but it couldn't be any closer. In MLS games fourteen wins each. Pauland now have fifty eight goals. Sounders have fifty nine goals, so nothing between the

teams. It just shows you that no matter where you're at in the standings, where you are in the season, this game provides always high quality battling by both teams. You could be in last places one teams in first, and the opposite always happens. Paul gets flicked down the line the far side the rights, anti chachter, wriggle free of new who many a better player? I've done that over the years and failed. Who wins that battle?

Rolls it back to Stephan Frey dicked out in sky blue tonight to this afternoon, I should say, get used to these evening games and it's just muscle memories. Sometimes, of course, a game baits in sunlight, this Sunday afternoon, this Mother's day, better place for any mother to be playing. My wife watching the game with that three kids here in Portland. How often have you seen the Sounders been able to really open up space? Most of the time when we watch a Sounders play, when they play out of the

back, it's high pressure from every other team. But this game you're seeing these fifteen yard passes hit so easily. Ball top of the boxer Rosne little laout from Morris, strike down by the sounder is number eleven, ricochets into the hands of Craper, And I think that's why you're seeing so many switch balls today because our two number six is in. Christian Roldon and JP are finding way more space to be able to turn take a touch and pick out

a pass. And when you can do that and the team's half or at least that halfway, there's so much space in behind where I think most of the time this season we've seen teams really just sit in and bait the Sounders into playing. It felt like Resnight was getting a lot of ball and those little pockets in the first ten minutes. Less so recently, but that's probably because char and now as we see from advantage point has dropped back a line

to pick up the Sounders number ten. Given the guys in the middle a bit more space and time or gets bundled in Jackson regg and nothing given by the referee. As more goes down the deck, arms up in the air and frustration. It's a big derby game here Tiki techi foul is not gonna be given. Referee so far done a really good job of managing this game.

But May is AA n HPI Heritage Month support AA n HPI owned small businesses during the month of May. For a chance to win Sounders FC prizes, visit intentionalis dot com to find a business near you or gets shifted against. Brad Edwards mentioned not enough to sip on that pass picked off by Portland Timbers on their far side the right as they attacked the gold to our left. Sloppy giveaway by Anthony Sounders just put their foot on the board. Don't

need to attack at full speed. As we always mentioned away teams here to entertain the here to get a result. And with Choo Paolo, it's type of play you need just to orchestrate and manage and control things in the middle of the pocket. Well, I think it's a it's a case of the environment today. It's so warm it can't the Portland Timbers can't come out here for ninety minutes in press like it would be an evening game and have all

the power in the world and not be hot. Right, But reality is temperature plays a big part in this game and how both teams are gonna play. And if you're talking about a possession based team, that's gonna that's gonna slice and dice this Portland Timber Steam. The sound is finding a pocket of space with Vargas good distribution. Now the bat by Jackson Reagan. Here comes Rusnick fast side the left. Jordan Morrison supports his left hand side, just

has to hold his run down towards the end line. Super Rich is gonna see that one over goal kick for the Timbers remains here in the thirty ninth minute Providence Park ninety three point three KGr FM. It's Timbers, one Sounds, one Bright Evans. So it's too easy for the Sounders to build out there against this Timber Steam that's at home. They gotta be scratching their heads thinking what's our game plan here for the remaining a few minutes of this first

half. But as Jordan finds himself isolated out wide, you expect him to take on a defender. Right Georgie plays Midweek. Every time he got the ball, he's taken on, taking on any defender he can, any opportunity. Jordan trying to be a provider that's a first foul given fair enough, you've got away with four or five, and then you lay a fifth one on out on this wing. I'd like to see that foul in the Portland Timbers defensive third ideally instead of now giving the Timbers an easy out and an

opportunity, especially when the attacker's facing the sideline. That's the extra defender. JP's a good enough defender to know no one's gonna beat him one on one, especially when he uses that extra defender in this sideline let him out easy. Well, it's a difference we saw with Muscarey kind of bailed knew who out that there's time to put your foot behind it, and a game like this sometimes sticking a tackle in the right places in the field set some marker

does it sounds a good hold. That line two yach outside the eighteen yard box, whipped in by Moreno to with a fast stick up in the air is zuop rich. His paradus headed over the end line for a Timbers corner kick by Jackson Reagan. Sounder is standing strong as Stefan Fry organizes his players. It's an avoidable one to give up. It's an unnecessary corner kick to give up and it starts here with a silly foul from a vetter end player.

We should know better. And whether that's tired legs or it's just you feel like that's your opportunity to get stuck in. Now you give up a corner kick in front of the timbers. On there comes the cornerkick in swinger, just over the top. It was Rodriguez the player who chested it down into the path of Mora for the first goal. He slashes in front and the volley is able to do nothing more that to put it over with Stephen fry'es crossbar goalkick. Sound as remains one one, but good play by the

Timbers. It's a dynamic run. It comes all the way from the back post coming it's well obviously it's a designed play. He gets on the end of this one inside foot, gets paying power on it and the sounder is lucky just to get enough of a body on him. Sometimes that's all you need. They're gonna get their chances, but if you body up and set them off balance, he's got to do something really special to put that one in the back of the net. Well, that's what said twenty one goals

on the year so far for Portland's free flowing attacking team. I founder's still that talisman with four goals four assists on the bench. Still to come on. You'll see when he gets introduced by Phil Neville. As the sound is built in the Portland half of the field, just maintaining some possession. As timbers start to step up their lines. It's New who wriggles out of pressure from Anthony, just strides forward. Refree eventually gives it. Who kind of

mate it in? Anthony goes down. Dangerous opportunity for the sound is here on their left channel. Well done from New who wiggles out of pressure. You know he's got pay and power and if he doesn't foul in that situation, it's a two v one Jordan and knew Who gets the timbers right back. But the sounders just now take a breath. There's forty second minute. Be smart, take a minute or two off the clock. Gets your big guys forward and see if you can get some quality service in these dynamic runs.

And I know that we like to start in a line here, but I want to see guys playing pairs, someone moving just like Rodriguez did on that one. Be a bit more dynamic and take a chance. Just pick off a play it, give yourself a chance to make that run. There's Timbers now similar to the sound is going to hold that line outside the eh and yard just a little bit pushing and shoving. Ball comes in, pounces it. In the sixty oposo Is checks and Reagan he died a slash his

run on a diagonal Maybe could have got there. Who's in the hands of craypo in the Poland goal. Yeah, it's a tough one for Reagan because you have the defender to your left. He's blocking you so that you can't make that diagonal run. Defender does well. The ball hinds. It's actually well delivered ball they tell you from wide areas. If it misses everyone, then it finds the back post and trickles in to the back net. It was on its way there, but a little bit too far out. Mix

up here. Co'm Portland with Mora in the Sounders half for the field. We get here in the forty fourth minute Providence Park Sounders one Timbers one bor goes into the top corner. Does the paraders go square to Moreno, just a flick. It goes over the end line for a Sounders goalkick. But join us on Saturday, June fifteenth, as we celebrate fifty years of Sounders and all those who are part of our club history. Kickoff is at seven

thirty pm against Minnesota United. Tickets are available at soundersfc dot com slash tickets get here in the final minutes of this pulsating first half. What kind of messaging Brian Schmitze we'll give his men? So far it's been a good performance from the Sounder sixty five percent possessions so far. Challenged Crepo in the goal a couple of times. There was one shot from distance from Christian rolled on that deflected past Crepo rolled into the back of the to tie things up.

Here at Providence Park, to look down from a high vantage point to see the chess pieces getting moved around on the field, sounds just sitting five yards outside. They're eighteen as Portland side. To build the far side there right with Zuper Rich Kamal Miller in support a little bit if higher pressed from rides just a step, It's played around him. Comes to this near side the left with Eric Miller. Charah rolls it into Eric Miller, but don't leave

us at halftime. It would be Jackson, Mars and Pete will be back to break it all down. What's to break down on this one hundred and twentieth edition of this great game. Stands are packed, stadium or wash in sunlight. The ball gets hooked to the far sides can be thrown for Portland. I think you're seeing the Sounders will be happy with this first half so far. Good sustained possession, not allowing Tom. There's too many opportunities.

Obviously the one goal, but other than that, a couple half cham with

the Timbers on set pieces. The Sounders up from this vantage point look to be in a strict four two three one August The endline whipped in towards the back post, headed up and away by Knew, who well or bounces to thirty yards from gold cushion headed by Chara, goes into the foot of Moreno's Moskaira plays the ball in square little back heel god defending by Knew, who saw it come motioning to the Timbers army as he sits down the deck pops

up. Cornerkick for the Timbers remains one one here as we get into added time to be a corner kick on the far side. The Timbers right into be an outswinger with the right foot. Moreno Sounders defending their line comes in headed down and away by Jonathan Bell, bounces up good headed by JP as he crashes to the ground. Sounders with Ruy Diaz. Can they break now

in support? It comes Christian rolled on three verses one and there comes one of those three in super rich to win the ball off the toe of Christian rolled on and the Timbers build again. But Discount Tire I get thirty percent short to average weight time when you buy and book online at discount tire dot com. Two minutes about it time. Here, as we get into the final thirty seconds or so, Sounders, you take no chances. They build

out the bat with Alex Roldan. I think both teams seem satisfied. Brad just to sit back, let these final seconds tick by, get in the locker room, get a drinks. As a home team, you're looking, can I get the last chance of this half? And I think that they applied just enough pressure to get in. The Sounders find themselves on a break and you really see the sticky field sticking up for both Raoul and Christian Roldan is Alex Roldan could be a final chance for the Sounders as we tick towards

the very end. It's just be five minutes. Looking on the board here we thought it was initial two. It was five stuff together crapo injury that allowed the players to get some time to recoup and get some water. So a few more minutes to the Sounders to find a goal. Here is Paul tries to go square, given away. You must scare it, little Jersey tug on Christian roll Dan. It's gonna be free kicked to the Sounders in

a dangered position on their left hand side. Well, Chris had taken a beating in this first half, and he does so well there to stay strong, stay on his feet, and you're rewarded with what is a foul After that, you're so tired, you miss your easy pass inside, but you get you get a free pass on that one, and the Sounders in a better position here, a little bit closer to the eighteen. This will allow

Rusnak to put a little bit more power and pace on the ball. I think it needs to be driven and not so lofted because this back line for the Portland Timbers or big bodies holding the line on the top of the eighteen, all eleven men inside the box. Ball comes it, bounces through it again inside the six. Good delivery Vi Rose and that made a little bit too far, but just holds up on the bounce. Jonathan Belle tried to dash in, couldn't get their roles over the end line. Goal Kate remains

one one. It's a decent run from Jackson. He thinks that the ball is gonna hit a little bit early, finds himself offside, but gets himself back on side. But there's only three runners in the box against seven or eight Portland Timbers. Is gonna take something magical, So really get on the end of something there and the Sounders will be happy to see this one out. Get in at halftime agree group. Craper with the goal kick launches it

long. Pautland going direct now Phil Nevills trying to institute a more possession orientated game compared to years past, and the likes of Savarez. You likes to play on the counter. Certainly it's working offensively, defensively not so much as they have the ball. Ball goes into the foot of Anthony, top of the box goes most scare of rolls it down. It's Anthony challenged by Jackson Reagan ball putting the legs of JP clear with the left foot of var guests

coming back to help his back line. It's gonna be Marin or the far side. They're right. It's to roll its square into the now the center circle center spot comes into this near left with Eric Miller Rodriguez in support to his left. Nothing on Sounders shifting eleven men behind the ball as eight. See how this final minute of five here in Providence Park, downtown Portland means one one bundled over nothing given by the referre. It looked like a foul.

Phil Nevil's gonna lose his mind at some point. I think there's three or four fouls in this game that the Sounders have gotten away with, and then Neville will be thinking, how are they getting two or three fouls on the far end for a free kick and we get nothing? The sakes final thirty seconds, Anthony plays its square to moreno inside Anthony into the box, big defending by Nude bounce it around struck to the far post, goes wide

a Stephen Prize right hand post goes over the end line. Goalkick for the Sounders and that should be that Timbers worn Sounders one and this scorpy is presented by Provident Swedish as a referees whistle to bring this first half to an end. Was Pautland Timbers in the fifteenth minute with Moura will open the game up and then a quick fire response by the Sounders. A Christian rolled on the

nineteenth minute tied it up. Brad your final thoughts, So I think the Sounders will be happy with how they played, save giving up a goal step and final talk to the team about that and just checking your shoulder. But overall I think the Sounders with good sustained possession easily breaking the first two lines. Now it's about a finished product. Portland Timbers a little bit more in

that last ten minutes and getting forward and smelling a little bit something. The more dynamical they are, it provides the Sounders, you know, a little bit of danger. But I think in the second half it's about the Sounders maintaining good possession. They're really gonna have to be smart to keep it zero goals against in the second half. Yeah, Watching Phil Neville and the big Boorge just clapping his players into the locker room. We'll go away take a

short break, Jackson, Pete and Mars. We're back to break it all down halftime Here at Providence Park in Portland. It's the Timbers one, the sound as one. Ball program. Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show. Well, the first forty five minutes were exactly what we expected. Back and forth, I paced offensive and multiple goals. It's one to one here from Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, between your Seattle Sounders and the Portland Timbers in goals that came in the fifteenth minute for Portland the nineteenth minute for Seattle. Lots of

chances for both teams, but it is one to one right now. Pete feuing your opening thoughts on the first forty five Well, I think Brian will be happy with a lot of the things that went on. It was well scripted on restarts. They did do a good job of keeping possession with some purpose. Where he's going to be concerned is you know. The first goal was just a long ball out of the back to Rodriguez who laid it off with his chest for more to bury it. And we kind of got caught

sleeping a little bit. That has been the case in previous games. So but the resolve to come back. We got a little bit of luck on Christian Moldon's goal. It deflected off their center back Miller right and number four, and but then ruiy Dias had a great one that ping ponged off two of their defenders that looked like it was going to the back, you know, back of the net on the far post. So so I think they'll be happy with it. I think the heat is a factor, I bet

for both teams. This is the first really really warm game they've played on in and it's one of those things that you've got to adjust to. But all in all, one one forty five minutes to go, each team has created chances. Each goalies had to do some good work and so all to play for in the second half. But I like that they managed the game properly. It didn't get out of hand too early, which was a concern from coach Smetzer before the game. Yeah, fair enough, coach. I

think both teams were able to manage the game. I mean they when the opportunity was there and they took it. We saw that with the how Portland scored, and that is putting. You got somebody in the middle of Bell and Jackson there. I think Jonathan Rodriguez again is somebody to watch here. Yeah, that he's making that secondary run and that that's how Portland scored.

I think Seattle. I think Seattle created a chance on that goal. The past was really going from Albert Russnek was going to pass it, you shall pollow. But as we talked about him preakingting Christian Rodin, the fortune favors the brave, so he saw that intercepted the pass, cut inside and sure it was deflected. But if he doesn't cut inside and see that moment, the shot doesn't happen and they don't scool, it's a great point. It's a great point. And then really you've seen a lot of points to that

where that movement offensively is there. Today things are working with O bed on the right wing and Christian rold on back line. You're seeing them getting themselves in a really good positions for the Sounders. I mentioned that Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Pete, not only who can Seattle ad to get a win in this game? But what are the keys

to the Sounders just getting a result here a Providence Park today? Well, I think more of the same. But then tighten up on do not let people get in behind you on a counter attack. Do not let people run. You know, Valeri was brilliant here at running through the middle of the field. Stop those a little bit quicker restarts. Make sure you're very very sharp. Rodriguez shot that just went over the crossbar. He's he was pretty open, So no unnecessary fouls. Be sharp on restarts, don't allow the

counter attack. I think Evander's going to come in in this game and he's going to be a handful and you got to get you can't give him any chances. The referee has been good and that's probably the kiss of death as we all know. But Chapman's been good today and that he's let both teams play and he's been pretty consistent. So one last thing, when we get our crosses in, we've got to get inside our guy. We can't hope that it's going to go up and over and land on a plate for us.

We've gotta make the run inside your man. Because some of the crosses have been well placed, but we just haven't got their most Yeah, I and coach just adding on that. So when those crosses are coming, so the first player gets on the inside, you need a second player so that if the Sounder player and the Portland Timber defender let the ball go, that's second the ball is gonna be there for the second win. So Jackson, I think they have to be more intricate runs multiple players going in there.

But also you're gonna need some people to stay back. That's Ovid Vargas and Shall Paula are really gonna have to be critical in terms of, you know, one goes up when one comes back and Alex Rodin is the other person. I think has to stay home a little bit here because as the weather goes we get tired, heavy feet. Absolutely, so you played a long game on Wednesday. Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FL. Welcome back everybody to Providence Park in Portland with this one hundred and twentieth edition of the Sounders Timbers, going back all the way to nineteen seventy five. Put in throwing first half. Felipe More got the Portland Timbers off the board in the fifteenth minute, and then it was rolled down. It got a quick fire response for the Sounders in the nineteenth minute to tie it all up. Here, warm, hot,

sticky day. We were saying, we're up in the shadows of the stand up here high. The entire field is bathed in sunshine. No changes for the Sounders. As the ball gets put on the deck, Ruy Diaz will start for the Sounders. Sounds in their Bruce Lee kit, red shirts, black shorts, black socks. They're attacking the gold to our left, to the end where the Timbers army stand. And then and the Timbers are in a beige shirt with dark green shorts, beige shocks. They're attacking the

gold to our right. We'll get you the lineup step from Fryank Gola back fourth roll Don Reagan, Bell Knew who Roll done and jump al in the middle of but Vargas, Rosnick, Morris and then ral Riy Diez up front. As the game gets going with a ball shifted it's nearside the left picked up by Diego Chara, ball down the line, ball bounces into new who plays it into Christian Rolldan who got that really good response. As they say big time players need to step up in big time moments. He did that.

There comes Rosnick find to pocket his space quickly down the line. It goes it's nearsight to Jordan Morris as Zuperich comes off Jordan Morris and the ball goes over the end line for a goal kick for Portland. We're gonna throw it down to Michelle, thinks Sanny. I caught up with head coach Brian Schmenzer right after the half and I asked him overall about the first half of play and he says, over well, he was pretty pleased. Obviously didn't

like the team taking that goal. He thought it wasn't well for how the team was looking defensively, and that was a big point of ephesis at the break is to do better defensively, to really shut Portland down. He also said he was really pleased though with how many chances this team is creating, and the main takeaway and the point that he hit home with these players is to not be afraid to take the shot. He says, sometimes his guys

are just too nice. They want to put the extra pass in to give it to someone else, and he wants them to have more of that hunger, that fearlessness to take the shot when the ball is at their feet, and hopefully we'll see more of that in the second half. Yeah, thanks

Michelle, good things happened. Sometimes when he hit the ball from distance, Christian Roldan showed that if the ball comes this near sight the left of the foot of Jordan Morris, pressure from Musquerra to new just knocks it down the line up in the sky, it goes headed forward and then picked up by Albert Rosneck. So as the game gets going here on the second half, Brad and he changes tweaks that the Sounders need to make in this second half

to try and find that next goal. No, I just think the wide areas are gonna get exposed in this one. Portland's gonna feel little pressure at home in this derby. To push forward and you're already seeing Obed pinch in Alex Rodon getting high, so they're almost playing with two number ten's at time, and it should allow more space on the side as the Sounders push forward. Here is Obed Vargas right corner of the box, whips it in along the six, just eludes Jordan Morris in the back post, runs over the

end line. Goal kick. Yeah. Just in the first two minutes of the second half. It's gonna be Timbers one, Sounders one. And as Craper his first experience, gets the game going. It's been in many a derby game between LAFC and La Galaxy. Of course, his terrible injury in the twenty twenty two MLS Cup we had to go off at the very end. Took him almost a year to get back. He did, played the final games the end of last year and then moved to Portland in the off

season. It comes to sound as just patient in possession, stracked down, nothing given by the referee as well. Don't picking the pocket of Rodriguez about you like the first half of the second half of the referee let things go. Yeah. Ope, it's got to know he's in a derby game. These little ticki tak fowls aren't gonna get aren't gonna get called in this one. He's gonna get up and play. If you've seen it four or five times, now, Albert gets up, he throws his hands in the air.

You just gotta get on with the next play, right, get the ball off your feet and get going with the game. But the Sounders, I think after this game, if it remains the same, they'll be wondering how much time and space each player has had on the ball in this game and really able to pick out any pass they want. And now it's about being concise with that pass, right, because you know Portland's gonna push. We're gonna try to catch you on the counter attack. And now continue to

find those pockets of space to get the ball forward. Right, Who's gonna make that killer pass? Now? Who just asking for the foul? Eventually gets it Anthony who grabbed his shirt on his near side, the left right whether halfway line meets this near touch line. He gets the game going quickly. Back to Jonathan Bell, his second start for the sound in regular MLS play, got minutes full ninety against Louisville and the midweek for the US Open

Cup. His presence is due to Gamar picking up an injury, Nathan picking up a long term injury out for the next two months or so, ten Toio out for the next two weeks. The ball gets whipped in headed clear by Zuperich, comes out to this near side the left and the Sounders get off to a quick fire start in this second half as Rosneck or quite in the first half. Can he get more on the ball? Can he get

more influential as Bryan Schweitz was asked him to do. Rudiaz drops it off to Christian rolled on thirty odd some goal goes to the foot of Vargas the left for his strike. What's a goal? Ruey DearS out of nothing with his left foot, finds the top corner in front of the Timbers army. They go silent and the Sounders celebrating the far corner. Timbers want Sounders two.

Well done by the Sounders. There a sustained pressure you just asked Rusnak to get in this game, and JP's sitting back just on top of the box in between the D and the center circle, hoping to get that ball back. But Brusnak takes charge there. It's an entry past to Obed and it's quick interchanges and he's on his back foot there, almost leaning back as this ball gets slipped across, hits it first time and just curls his foot

and finds that top corner. Roll Don with an entry pass Vargas a little touch and then it's just that sweet left foot from Raoul and this angle will be the best one keepers coming to his left. He'll never get that in time. And the Sounders celebrate in the Timbers armies. And what a good

start to the second half from these guys. And it's about finding those pockets, and it started with winning the second ball, ball gets swung in from ruy Diez, header cleared, Sounders are first to it, sustained pressure and you're rewarded. His thirteenth goal in seventeen games against pauland continues to grow his lead and continues to establish his presence in Sounders folklore. But here come Timmas. They're looking for a quick response. Now must scare a right corner of

the box, whips it into the far post. Sounds need to defend up. Goes Alex Rolledan bounces to the head of Christian rolled On just holds off Moreno's pressure. Far right corner hook down the line by Alex rolled on Nes, Rudy has his seventh goal of the season. As he picks it up, lookive off it was Craig Poe. He was fourteen fifteen yards and the first thing I looked at when he picked the ball up fifty yards from goal

is where's the goalkeeper? He's sorry, Brad couldn't quite except well in the first half he broke free and I know that the first thing he was thinking was can I get this ball? And is crippo off his line so much? There? He tries that chance again, We've seen him. We've seen

him doing it in a Sounders jersey three or four times. What we said in the pass about rule expect the unexpected, and that anytime he pops up in the right position, that's another one similar to Philadelphia keepers caught up trying to support, but the Sounders again winning second balls. That's what this game has been about tonight, and Schmt's pointed it out. It's all about possession.

It's sustained possession, especially away from home. We haven't seen a Sounders game away from home where they've had this much possession in simple possession as well. Is Morin on top of the box, haes it flicking around. Jonathan Bell comes off his chest, he has for a handball, nothing given by the referee. Ball rolls out right in front of Brian Schmetz as he stands in nappled sunlight. The shadows cover the Sounders bench field still baden sunshine,

warm day sounds. He to roll up their sleeves, now something to protect as they lead here two goals to one. Portland have given up multiple goals in each of the last eight games, if you can believe it. Pretty amazing stat of a team that brought in some defensive firepower in camal Miller. As he plays the ball out to Rodriguez's new signing, he lets the ball go out for a cheap giveaway Sounder's throw and they'll take their time. And

again we talked about moments of magic Rowl with his left foot. Here of course he was his right foot from fifty yards against Philadelphia that got that game going. They'll flick over the top, look for the foul kamal Miller just holding his ground and as I've seen the last fifty minutes or so, refre he's not going to give anything like that. As Timbers come far side the left to see some movement down on the timber sideline and Vander getting ready to

come on his moment to come in and try and change things up. As the ball bounces the middle of the park, comes to the foot of Moreno, shifts it to the far side the left. Rodriguez against roll Dark comes back to his preferred right foot Moreno in support. He's floating from right to middle to left now as the ball gets shifted far post up and away by Bell, bounces to the foot of Rozneck. He's holding off. Anthony goes out to Nue just dribbles around. Anthony strides forward, heart in in mouth.

Moment for a second for Brian Schmetzers, here goes new here's tego Shara. How many times has he done that? Thirty three games, thirty four games? Now as Nude needs to get out of the way, needs to get him away as he says a bundle and bodge yellow card for new who and Brad that is not what you want when you two one up. Brian Schmiz it just must be seething seeing his experienced left back get involved in something

like that. Yeah, he'll be telling him now to calm down. But that might be the pivotal moment to get this Sounders team over the hump. But it comes out of time where now Portland Timbers are gonna make their up. This is a fresh attacking player in a DP. You don't want to give Portland Timbers anything to get them riled up and back into this game. You're doing such a good job of possessing the ball. It's not a foul,

blatantly not a foul. Who watch a replay here. He takes a touch, charge, gets the ball, Knew who falls on the ground, complains and then commits a silly foul, gets in Kaman Miller's face, and now the Sounders take a breath. Well, this will be the big question. You got Evander, you got Esprio on the bench. You know that both of those players are gonna come on none that Sounders. How do they deal with that because you know that it's gonna change the game significantly when Evander

steps on this field. Every time the ball touches his We talked with Schmetz about it. Just know where he is at all times and make him play backwards. Yeah, there's such a high quality player and a game changer. And if you look down the Sounders bench, don't need an attacking something now. But if these guys do get tired, you're really looking at Missovski and Lao Chu to come on the field standing ovation for a venders. He comes

on the field four goals for assists on his year. Last year's first season in MLS for the Timbers after a twelve million dollar transfer, got nine goals. It's a ball given away cheaply by Muscarra. Talking to some of this Timbers press, they mentioned Moscare is always good for a mistake. Maybe that's the one that gives up in this game. Corner kick for the Sounders remains two to one Sounders. Here you mentioned Avander on the field, Anthony goes

off. Here comes Ruy Diaz. We've seen him whip balls in with his right foot. Timbers giving up the most goals in MLS this season from set pieces. Can the Sounders find a way to get a goal? Whipped in well by Rudez, bounces all the way through to the fast side. Goal kick Timbers remains Timbers one, Sounders two. Here in the fifty sixth minute, Bred Evans, the loan Rudiez is in the box. He's always the last man him behind. I think he got caught in between two minds there.

What Sounder's doing Just enough right now to pin pin the Timbers back put enough pressure, they'll give you something, right We talked about that before the game. Is this Timbers back line will give you something, but it doesn't come without the hard work in the pressure. And you'll look every time it's gonna go to Chara and it's always keeping an eye on Evander in the middle of the pitch there and applying pressure. Christian having to come from deep make

Evander play back well. Branch meant talks about the loss of Atensio, certainly his presence on the field, his athletic ability, his ability in the area as well. Great play to bring on right now, just lock down that center of the park, in the area of the field where it's gonna get. It's gonna be some fatigue building towards the game. Sounds a little light on the bench due to some of these injuries, but we know based on

the performance pulled up by many of those young players against Louisville. Roll your sleeves up with the best of them. These young kids be come the sound As Eleven men behind the ball in there half the field is possession at the foot of Muska rolls it back to Zuperich. But sound as f C socket is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders. FCS flicked down the line by Eric Miller given away. Sounders need to build with confidence they

do. Goes into Vargas just look Coro turning nothing, giving up here looking for something from the referee. Needs to get up and as Brad Evans mentioned, compete to Derby. One hundred and twentieth of this great rivalry is ro Moscara has it thirty yards from the end line, just foot from the ball, looking for some help. Has to go square them back to Chara. Ten men behind the ball for the Sounders Little one two picked up by Jonathan Bell far guess just back to goal, rolls it out to the right side

support from Alex rolled On. He goes in square to Christian rolled on che'd giveaway, goes down to deck nothing given Hey comes to Diego Charles striding forward to Rodriguez. Good recovery. If I rolled on, it's gonna go to the endline. Corner gate remains Timbers one Sounders too, Brad Evans, I've been a center back in that exact same position with Chara running at you with a silly turnover, and the one I remember was him lacing it from the

top of the box eighteen yards out finds the back of the net. And on a day like this, I'm surprised Charli doesn't have a go there right he's on top of the box. Yes, it's on the left hand side of the field, and he's not on his preferred right foot trying to find us up. But it's a great recovery just to get a corner kick. Christian rolled on, jogging back in position after pulling himself off the deck.

He rules, of course about medical staff coming on. Paul gets whipped in by Evander Well claimed by Stephen Fry, just as you'd want from your goalkeeper. Deck down in all sky blue this afternoon, Sounds attacking the goal to our left. To the Timbers army, they've already silenced them once back of a wonderful goal. Is Brian Schmissa just barking our instructions asking him for some help. Almost given away by Jonathan Bell, but it's pushing all do on

rules out of pressure. Jordan mar has been a little quiet in the second half. Even Rosnet need to be influential, talked about their back for being vulnerable. As the ball does go over the top to Zubridge heads it up and down to Kamal Miller is able to pull it down. No real pressure Jordan Moric just walking back here can pauland building out as a Sounder's retreat erin Miller fast out cheap giveaways being the story of pauland at times just cheap giveaways,

loud of Sounders to building pressure. As Brian said, sometimes in these games you have to defend like lions, but sometimes defense can be solved by keeping the ball forcing the Timbers to chase. Fifty seven percent possessions so far in this game for the Sounders controlled calm his bull to the foot of August Foust side. The sound is right, little give and go, look for it, clip it down. The line goes back. Eric Miller goes to the deck. He's chasing shadows right now. If the ball goes in squat

middle of the pub to he has almost squiggles free. Marina comes back, helps flicks it to Evander, his resident comes back. That's a foul. That's a hand ball given on Evander, and that's gonna rile up the fans. I think he knows it there. It did pop up and hit his hand. But the Sounders are popping up. It's almost like Partlan the timber's

chasing chasing shadows. At this point, they're not able to get close enough to make a play on the Sounders, and so they're so tired that when they do win the ball, it's that first pass that they're missing three, four or five times now. And the Sounders, like you said, leading in possession in this game on a hot day. It is the key. It is the key. You'll see what changes Brian Schmidtz and makes. Does it go a deep bench today, We'll get to that bench momentarily. Give

you the players that Brian Schmetzer has available to him. As Evander picks it up, Sounders retreat, Vargas putting a good shifting on that right hand side. We should all done moving more defensively to the middle of the park to play alongside JP needing the experience of the Sounders number seven. He's scored his fifth goal against the Timbers to tie it up and Rudy has with his thirteenth

goal against Portland from seventeen games. Incredible return for that man. Ruy Diez, who came into preseason knuckled down, lost his starting spot in that number nine position to Jordan Morris. Back end of last year's patient was rewarding Brian Schmetz on his staff this season with seven goals. Timber started the build and bred the ball gets knocked in, headed clear, picked up by Shara. Sound is just holding top of the box poland maintain possession in front of them.

Yeah, it's it's it's a tough game of cat and mouse here, though. You don't want to allow Portland too much time on the ball because all they're gonna do is knock that ball around wait for the right opportunity. But you know they're down to one, so they have to make a push at some point, and then it's about the Sounders regaining that ball, keeping possession, knowing that they don't have to go forward every single time, but

don't get too comfortable otherwise it's just offense versus defense. For the last thirty minutes of this one, christ Will done Vargas clats it into buy a vandon nothing given. Vargas pops up to his feet, closes down moreno giving away. Well done by Vargas. He picks the ball up middle of their half of the field. Just flick around the corner by JP giving away top of the bucks. Jonathan Bell close the ball down. It's got like ball to

hand versus hands a ball. It's gonna be a free kick from twenty five yards dead center of the field for the Portland Timbus. And we've seen Evander hid these already this season. This is his spot. It's gonna go up and over the wall to Steph's left. That's the attempt. Jonathan Bell gets pulled out of position here because you have the lack of the ability to keep the ball for the Sounders center back has to step out of position and it's

a last ditch effort at that point. If he doesn't get a hand on it, I think Portland's in behind. You give up the free kick. No shots on goals so far in this second half. Was getting here. In the sixty fourth minute, Sounders leading two goals to one. Loud, boisterous Providence Park. The noise reverberates underneath these great wooden beams, Sounders fans making their noise in the right corner, suppointing their team as they always do.

Coming down to Portland. As a wall here, you must be thinking, I have as soon as he strikes that ball, I'm jumping as high as I can and follow it up. Savander steps forward with his right foot, up and over. The Sounders will love that ten fifteen yards over step and Frice crossbar goal kick. Sounders continue to lead here, two goals to one. Well done from the Sounders there. You make yourself big on that

wall. You get an extra foot or two and it just as a free kick taker, you know that you have to hit that ball higher than expector you have to expect that that wall is going to jump. Evander tries to get up and over that ball sales wide. At the end of the day, you give up a free kick, three or four minutes run off the clock, get set, push forward and now the opportunity for the Sounders to

regain possession. Well. Brian Schmetza talked about reminding his players about what happened this time last year when the Sounders went up a goal, same combination of players. It was Vargas to ruy Diaz last year with Vargas to ruy Diez. This year John Pabella almost got his pocket picked seven and frid taking no chance has launched it long. They mentioned that those four unanswer goals continues to sting Ran. Schmetz doesn't have the best record against Poland eight wins, eleven

losses, five ties since his moving into the head coach role. There's a lot of personal darbies in this one. I wonder what his playing record is and you know those those personal little notches on the belt. He doesn't want to leave this club having a losing record against Portland. That's the one that he'll want for himself. Well, we asked him about this week coming up. Of course we've got RSL comit Wednesday Vancouver. Following stats, he said,

I don'tkay, you gotta get a win today. Are goes down the line. It bounces awkwardly as JP just shrugs off Moreno Jackson Reagan, using his left foot, knocks down the line, ricochets up in the air. Eric Miller tries to keep it in bounds, doesn't succeed as you're zuper Rich who knocks it out of bounds to be a sound is throwing deep. The sound is half for the field, goes to Jonathan Bellams puts me a bit

of troubles knew who I'm not sure what he's doing. Throw it down the line, and the last thing is the center back you want you're pulled out wide. You don't want that ball at your feet. Nerva's got a long throw from Whoa. There's read the ass getting clattered into by zuper Rich. Perfect play it by Rudy as he rolls around a couple of times. That's gonna be an SGB yellow card for the timber center back zuper Rich. What a foul is called SGB trial lawyers are here to help visit sgbdesh law dot

Com. Here in the sixty sixth minute, sounders are gonna take the opportunity to take a break because it was a yellow card. The new rules for players getting attention and having to go off the field for two minutes does not count. So the sounders get a drink. Would take slight pause in proceedings here. Bred Evans, Yeah, I think you know, for Raoul he's fine, he's milking the clock. He's got his yellow card right, And now for Raoul it's gonna be how do we isolate zuper Rich at the back,

put him under pressure, make him make the game. If I'm Raoul, I'm backing up Agains zuper Rich every single time, and I'm gonna try to wriggle free, keep my body next to his, turn him. He's gonna pull on my my shirt double yellow. Those all the little chess games that are going on within the game, but highlighting Jonathan Bell tonight right first s rby for the Sounders coming into play against Portland away from home. I

don't think he's put a foot wrong tonight. He's been fantastic every time he's show. He's such a quiet guy. Every time I've met him, it's just say hey hello. But he's a big boy, right. He likes he likes the physicality of the game, and he's athletic. And since he stepped on the field for the summer, he hasn't put a foot wrong. He just keeps it simple, simple, simple, when your head is when you tackles. Give the ball to the players. And what I like he

plays the ball around the back with pace. Everything's hit with power and pace and accuracy. And he's communicating that one you know, knew who knew he shouldn't have thrown it there. But they come together. They do a little handshake. Right, you move on with the next player. Many calls Steph. Chris Cornish comes running back on. There's a little blood on in the face of Ruy. Diez's forcing him to go off the field. Substitution will

just add to Portland attacking move. Eric Williamson is coming on the field. He got an ACL injury last year, but he's good off. It's a good start this year. One goal, two assists on his campaign so far. He's gonna play alongside Diego Chara Paradus. He's gonna come off the field more of a sitting player. So Portland have made that moves or gets clipped long. Rudy has coming back on the field. Sounders flicked up in the air Camal Miller drops it to Eric Miller farst side the left. He's got

some some space to drive into. Rodriguez picks it up. The Sounds just patient in their press. The Vander's coming deep now try to get more influential in this game. Stap it stamp his presence on the game. He scored the tying goal last year in the last game where the sounds up two goals to nil. Chu got a red card in the fifty third minute and the Timbers got two unanswered goals in that second half at Lumen. As the ball goes over the top of Moreno, he's gonna roll it all the way down.

I'm not sure why knew who lets it roll out of bound. He had a chance to put his foot on the ball. Now he's gonna put himself under pressure five yards away from the corner flag because he takes a moment this time. Hopefully you'll go down the line as they get set. We're gonna throw it down to Michelle. Thanks Danny our roll rue Diaz came off the pitch moments ago just to get extra check on I think to see if

it was a head injury or concussion. They made him run on the sideline, take a few jumps, and he indicated to the medical staff that he was hit in the mouth on that last play. Thanks Michelle. As you mentioned, using his all his years of experience, it's a good little flick

around the corner keeps du pritchly yellow card. Now he's under pressure. Okay, It's a buoyant Ravalydz but this copyrighted audio cast of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. Seventieth minute here at Providence Park, ninety three point three KGr

FM Sounders Timbers, one hundred and twentieth game. Going back to nineteen seventy five, Sounders haven't won in six It was four straight losses before two ties at the back end of last year. The Sounders find a win to break that streak. Timbers build out the back Camal Miller out to Eric Miller fast side the left, no pressure as he strides forward, comes back. Sounders holding their line five yards outside their eighteen yard box. We see now from

the Portland Timbers. I'll play with two center backs. You bring on Williamson and you have Diego Charles sitting in a box right in front of him. Both outside backs push high, and then you have Evander sitting as a point and they're looking for any opportunity here to break the lines, and the Sounders have to hold hold tight. It's gonna be Rusnak's job to control the middle of the park. Oh, Bed, you already see him tucking inside.

You seat just glued to Evander and that'll be the remainder of this game for the last twenty minutes. Negate everything to Evander. What's interesting, Rusnet came in with eleven goals leven assists for RSL and his last year with that club before coming in here and then injured to JP to Vargas in the twenty two campaign. Force him to go deeper. Now he's gonna have to play and use all that experience to help the Sounders midfield lockdown on the offensive firepower that

the Timbers have. Will get shifted fart side the left Eric Miller in four and today. He's had many starts this year. As Williamson slashes the ball to the far side, picked up towards the end line by Eric Miller, comes back to Rodriguez signing in the off season, comes in his preferred right foot, defended well by Christian roaldn sliding across that right side from his central

midfield spot. Eleven men behind the ball for the Sounders. Tim attack of the goal to our right, driven into Moreno flicked up in the air, headed clear by Jackson, Rag good defending by Reagan, JP just nipping on the heels of a scarer. Sounders just holding their line defensively, doing a decent job on he won shot in the second half. That was from the

free kick Mavender. Nothing from open place. Sounders doing their job moreno clipping it towards this near side right corner of the box and mus scare a challenged by nu Who one b one all goes in five yard square to Williams. Some can nude step and he does foul Gibven. Good play by new Who. He sits on a yellow car, timed it perfectly. Free kick for the Sounders remains Timbers one Sounders too, and that's fantastic work from new Who.

And that's the speed and athleticism that you just can't teach him when he takes that touch. The only thing left to do from Muscarra is just to commit a foul. But the Sounders have to be careful. Throughout that possession. You're seeing the Sounders back line almost with the back line of six, and that means that the middle of the park is way too wide open. Allow knew Who, he's athletic enough, he can handle things over here.

One v one situations push Christian upper line. He doesn't want to get caught in the same line as Alex All on the foot of Rusnick, just caught in possession but able to close down Mosquerra, well done by Rosnek, comes off his heels, finds the foot of Muscare again and clips it to the far side. Let just give you the Sounders bench and the options of Brian schmittz has Chew, Musovski, Hawkins, Kedahara, Tevez, Rothrock, Andrew

Thomas and the gold Hero on Wednesday. Of course, Cody Baker and Danny Lay, who put in one hundred and twenty minutes against Louisville given away by Evander, won back by the Timbers and Sounds need to be a little bit careful, dangerous game dropping off twenty minutes or so. Here what can happen? We've seen that already Portland can pounce on the counters. The ball get

shifted from center far side the left. The Eric Miller, stepping forward eighteen yards from the end line, comes back in his preferred right foot to Vander, clips towards the back post towards New headed clear by that man knew who or played Jordan Morris look quiet in this first half. Flicks off Moscare is able to retain the ball a possession clear by new Sounders needed just gather themselves.

If they get a chance to put in the foot of the ball, which it did so well in that first half, to take the sting out of the game, they needs to do it right now. It's all defending backs against the wall, but the bending they're not breaking. Vander middle of the park goes square to Williamson, clips it towards the middle off the chest of old Dog, just shins it out. We are throwing four pauland ten yards from the corner. Flack down to our right hand side. Tim As

attacking the goal to our right in front of the old Athletic Club. Here the small stand, big board, JP scraps for gates moreno goes out to Muscarea can deliver a good ball. We've seen his attacking prowess, but we've also seen his defensive frailties at times. Well. I think the Sounders will be happy with how they're defending right now. Everyone's shifting as a unit.

Like you said, you're bending, not breaking, right, you make a couple subs, get some fresh legs on the field because you've seen Obed put in a shift tonight, maybe not offensively too much, but he's shifted so much to cover inside him and Rusnak rotating. But everyone's doing their job to negate anything from wide areas. I'll take a floated ball in the box any date. It allows me time to recover as a defender. I can judge the flight of the ball. It's when they get into these dangerous areas.

But everything's been blocked for this. We'll see down Cody Baker, Danny Mussovski getting ready to come on the field. We see if Brian shifts maybe two a three. We've seen him play that conservative manner before. Maybe he knew who stays on the field. Or do we get Cody Baker on as a left back to replace new who sits on a yellow card. Got those answers in just a couple of seconds. As JP has put his shift in today, he's gonna make way for Cody Baker. It's like Vargas will drop down

next to Christian rolled on Christian Roldan just asking what to do. It's gonna be Ral Ruediaz comes off the field, Danny Musovsy's gonna come on. Good shift by both Ruy Diaz and JP done that job today, Bret Evans. Yeah, you've got Wednesday night. It's a two day turnaround until the next game, two full days, and so you have to rest guys no matter what. Yes, luxury of winning this game to one right now and so we Haschematz before the game. Are you thinking about are you thinking about Salt

Lake and all? He said, No, things change when you're when you're getting resulting games. So yeah, now you've got fifteen minutes, save JP's legs, get some fresh ones on the field. You guys have deserved it, right. They played a great shift on Wednesday night. They showed that they can battle. Cody Baker just about took someone's soul on a tackle on Wednesday night. He knows how to fight, he knows the grit and Brian, he knows the history as well. He knows the history of this rivalry.

He's a kid from Seattle. He's got a relish in these opportunities. So the shift from Bryn Schmtch is gonna put Cody Baker to the right back spot. It's gonna push up Alex Roldan to a right midfield outside mid spot. Just solidify the outsides and it's gonna be Vargas, who's gonna play alongside Christian rolled on middle of the park, which talks about Albert Rosnet just dropping in maybe a slight deeper holding position in front of those two defensive midfield players.

Sound is trying to absorb this pressure. Jamarl Miller goes into Evander's beIN on the ball, but not really done too much. Therefore he asked for our guess. So Paul comes into Moreno, this is from near side the right, so he goes in and out of shadows were against that far post, bouncing the eighteen yard boards being brought down by Rodriguez. Flick around the corner. Nothing given referee and mix roll. Dan's gotta be careful like his

arm was up in the air. Referee gave nothing. Rodriguez was looking for it went down. The game goes on. Yeah, it's lucky for the Sounders there. Rodriguez always looking for contact as any good striker would do. It, takes a touch, flicks it over, flicks it over again. Nothing there nothing there on the replay, ball goes in square top of the box with Williams and slashing inside the box. Ball goes back to Stefan fright

launches it long, Soosky to be a lone man up there. At times the ball goes up to Him's gonna have to find a way to hold the ball up. Bringers midfield players into play, retain some possession. It's been all Poland in these last ten minutes. Well you see how hot it is. Diego Tar hasn't moved from a five yard radius for thirty minutes. Now, ball flick around the corner to Rodriguez, quick little feet finds Evander deep center of the park, goes out to this near side to Moreno, drops

the shoulder, tries to go past. New does a good job, goes down to the deck, plays it. It's Nu goes down. I think it was a Moreno's foot, maybe stood on knew Who's hand. And there's fantastic defending from knew Who there showing life at the end of this game, closing down with pace and pressure. New Who doesn't want to be the guy

that's gonna give up that service from his side. As we watch a replay from Rodriguez, always looking to dive there, ball comes off his hands actually should be a Sounders free kick, and New fantastic defending on this left hand side. Paul in the hands of Mosquare are ten yards from the corner flag our near side. The right ball gets whipped in, headed clear by Jackson Reagan, challenged by Massoski. Good little cushion headed to Christian rolled on.

Can he take the foul? Can he get dragged down? Can the Sounder retaining possession? They do? Mussovski plays it around the corner. Here goes Jordan. Morris pushes down zuper Rich power and paste by the Sounders. Number thirteen plays it squatter. Guess we'll get stuck under his foot. Super Rich comes back, defends, and here comes the Timbers. You can hear the crowd just urging their team forward. The Sounders have to do better on that

attack. You find themselves four v four. You're up to one. Keep the ball fall top of the box. Moreno hits with his left foot straight into the hands of Steph and Fry. It'll take that all day long as the Sounders back four will remains here in the eightieth minute, Timbers one, Sounders two, and there Stephan Fry pushes his back line up. We're gonna throw it down to Michelle. Definite shifts here in the last couple of minutes.

The Sounders goal every single match is to have fifty five percent possession. In fact, Brian Schmeidz are challenging his team to try and have sixty percent possession in this match, and in the last couple of minutes it's the first time in today's match the Sounders have dropped down below fifty percent possession. Thanks Michelle. Yeah, first half it was sixty percent on the dot. I think the second half it's starting to bleed out where the Sounder is under fifty

percent. Now, as you mentioned, Michelle, fourty eight. As Cody Baker sees that ball over the end line rammed into by Eric Miller, it's gonna be a Sounders goal kick. Just see the player that the Sounders probably don't want to see, a Sprear comes onto the field. We'll just confirm the change. It looks like Eric Miller, the left back, is gonna

come off. He's gonna play a more structured attacking left side. Screa scoring four and the last five games that he scored, and don't forget that overhead kick he scored this time last year and then when he came on he got two to two tie. It was his first touch of the game, they got the goal. The Sounders make a sub as well with Jordan Morris goes off the field. Good shift by the Sounders number thirteen. It's gonna be

that man the opening goal against Louisville. He's gonna slide on that left hand side. I think you'll see the Portland Timbers go three in the back here, push a spree high and that's where the Sounders have to smell opportunity on their right hand flank because if sprio, you know it's gonna cheat up. Play a three to five to two. The Sounders might have to think about putting five in the back just to cover. But that's why roth Rock is

on the field. Fresh legs come in for Jordan. Find those pockets of space. Your number one job is to defend sound is building middle of the park because Alex Roldan just shifts in from his right sitting in front of the back four. Now, ball knocked down the line, slice down the lines. It's gonna stay in. It bounces a couple of times, stays in. See that go out of bounds. You could see the ball bounce on

that white line. Feel like a bit premature by the assistant refee on this near side is Phil Neville urging his team forward, knowing the importance of this game after playing in so many derby games and his professional career over in England. Sounds need a hold strong. Ball goes down the line towards that man of Spriet, bounces once twice over the end. Sounds will take that all day long. Remains here a Providence Park Timbers one, Sounders two, Bran

Evers. I love this by Cody Baker. Ball goes out of bounds, bounce back back on the field, turn your back, waste some time, make the Timbers players set up your own goalkick. And now it's about who who's gonna be savvy enough enough to close this game out. There's gonna be

space because you know that a spree is gonna push in this game. But like you said, that possession has to come at least five or six minutes, a good sustained possession here to get the Timbers out of sorts because it's on here comes rights down the left hand side, goes into the for the massas he's got time to turn, go square to Alex Holdon's wriggles out of pressure. Good play by Alex Holdon, goes up to Cody Baker, who

just stands on the ball calms things down. It was a running behind by Alex holdnn he was on and here's the ball into Alex hold On inside the box. It's gonna just drift by, rolled down, but it's gonna go off. Kamal Miller sliding tackle goes out over the far side. Sounders throw two yards from the corner flag and Cody Baker will take all day long. As Kamal Millers sits on the deck. If players try to urge him to get to his feet, no wonder Timbers player having to go off the field.

If medical attention is demanded, well, he've pulled down his socks like he was coming out of the game. I think it's just a cramping situation. The Sounders again finding pockets of space to keep the ball switching from side to side. You gotta be careful on those through balls because if you don't connect, the Timbers are just gonna come right back down. But it's a well played ball by Christian. You win a throw in milk a couple seconds

off the clock. Well Sounders fans. One hundred and twenty edition of this great game, going

back to nineteen seventy five. All tied up, fourteen wins a pop between the two teams. Paul and Timmers have it. Thirty arts from goal driving Ford his Moreno tries to slip the ball into Rodriguez defended well by the Sounders. They've given up nothing so far in this second half. The ball clatter played into Masovski. Referee gives no advantage. It was rolled do only got clattered into top of the box. Strike to the side just wide. He

goes right of Stephen Fry's right post. Well done, asking for a foul, nothing given by the referee. Story of the game so far. It's gonna be a goalkick for the Sounders and Stefron Fire will take all the time he can to put the ball to the deck and clear his lines. So you know that these referees were talked to before this game. They knew they were gonna come into an atmosphere where the fans were gonna dictate it, the

players were gonna dictate it. And it's a play on type of day Oh Bed looking for the fouls early in the game, Yes, maybe they're fouls, but at the end of that, you gotta get up and play the game. You have five minutes left in a Darby, you're two, five and four. This is a big step for the Sounders to show composure, get up, play on, battle for every ball. Lesartski challenging the ball.

We've seen him in the as be positive of the Sounders. His two goals and his Sounders career one in San Jose one of course, this past Wednesday against Louisville, both deliveries from the right hand side headers. See if you can find one chance today Sounded had love that two goal cushion of throats sitting on this near left hand side. Sounder is putting in a real shift today. With that game against Phoenix Rising coming up in ten days, it's

gonna be nine games in thirty days for the Sounders. We're gonna need every single player today. Feels like Brian Schweitzer may have made his moves. As we look at the substitutes just standing in the far corner to our right, Sounds is gonna have to roll up their sleeves. Five minutes left of regular time. Here ball to this near side the right with Musquaira goes back to Zuberich. Good organized pressed by the Sounders as Roseneck just shifts onto char who's

playing a little deeper now, all into the foot of Rodriguez. Layoff two. Evander rolls the ball down Kens again. It's gonna roll and roll and roll and over the end line it goes. And then Cody Baker just takes a touch or two, keeps the ball on the side. Sammon's gonna knock it and just slowly run away, knocks at a kate to the board, bounces back on the field. I love it. Brilliant and like you said,

organizationally for the Sounders. And Night has been spot on and talking with Matt Winter, I think he was in the pregame meeting last night and he said everyone seemed to be so dial in Freddy's game plan. Schmitz's speech last night. He said it was the best he's heard all season, and the guys have followed that game plan to a tee. Timbers have it as they

have had much of this second half. You mentioned Sounders defending heroically so far, vending not breaking only seven shots in the game so far by Portland, and even with all this possession three shots in the second half, sixty four percent possession for the Timbers. Sounders got the all important stat which is the second goal. Say lead here two goals, so on, don't leave us

at full time as Jackson, Pete and Mars will come back. As it bor goes down the right hand side, Alex Rolldan, is he getta collect it. It's gonna come off Diego Chara. Great play by Alex Roldan. Is it just takes a hit on the ankle. Good solid play by Alex Rolldan. Don't forget he played a solid ninety minutes against Louisville on Wednesday. It's gonna be a corner kick for the Sounders and Rosnet will take all the

time he can to walk over to the far side and take it. It's fantastic from Alex Roldan, but it's equally as impressive from Diego char in this ninetieth minute to run seventy yards. Yeah, he gives up a corner cake, but he'll get a standing ovation from his fans. No better player for the timbers than Chara or comes in flicked up in the air by Camal Miller, headed by Chara giving away to the foot of Alex Holdan fartside the right. Now he goes to roll down again towards the end line. Who's still

on the sixth half, cleared by Miller. Eventually cleared by that Manchara. It comes Moscaira, closed down by roth Good, defending by rothro just holding his line, forcing the ball back. Sounders retreating in numbers. Ball goes down the left hand side to a sprear against Cody Baker corner of the box far side, comes in towards the van the top of the box. He

can shoot great closing down by Vargas. Ball goes in, bounces through into the hands of fry Is just gonna let it sit and then eventually pick it up and earn a burn some more seconds off this clock. It's the eighty ninth minute. Sounders continued to lead here Downtown Portland ninety three point three kidjifm two goals to one. What's the commitment from Obed there to make that sliding challenge. You also have Jackson Reagan stepping up to be that shot blocker,

and that's fantastic work from the two Sounders pair arms wrapped around Massofski. Not sure the referee is like ten yards away. I can see if advantage point. The referee can't see he's staring right at him as he's getting dragged down. Bundle over as Alex roldan No found given again by the referee. Sounds gonna get up and go. Two changes about to happen for the Sounders. Tevez Leva standing on the sidelines, see what players will come out. Sounders

trying to lock this game down. As we approach the ninetieth minute, we'll see how much at it time will be given by the referee. Ball goes towards the foot of Moreno, Rosquarian support. Moreno tries to go to the far post, gets blocked by Christian Rolldan Holdn put a hell of a shift to this. The ball goes to the far post, bounces through to Rodriguez Quddy Baker challenging him back to goal is Rodriguez just pushed back by Cody Baker.

Alex Roldan on his spriar, goes back to Shara to Vander five yards outside the box, goes in towards the box. Referee flag stays down, goes into more, goes back to a Spree you know he can drop his shoulder, goes towards the end line. Good defending by Alex rolled to armp but goes over the end line. Corner kick Timbers get here bang on the ninetieth minute. See if sounds will make us sub right before this corner four minutes of added time. Brian's gonna hold up making a sub. Let this

corner kick happen. Sounders need to defend all played in by a Vander top of the box, headed up in the air, collected by Stephan Fry falls to the ground, and that is exactly what the Sounders needed. Good defending on this corner kick. Portland Timber sending all the numbers for Jonathan Bell in the perfect spot right along the six yard box. Stephan Fry gets up, Everyone shields out the attacking player step and Fry with an easy hold. Falster

ground. That's exactly what you want. From your goalkeeper captain on the day, Williamson just christening it back to Chari who plays the nice ball to his Ryan side, picked off by Groznat. Loose ball again by Moscarra, left corner of the box. Can eat drive one v one opportunity to top of the boxes. Rolled On rolls it back to his brother. Christian rolls it into the box of Musoski. You know, real pressure from the Timbers back

line as they start to wither in the heat. Musoski plays the ball, giving away cheaply by the Sounders. Here comes a squat, a good tackle by Christian rolled On as both players go down Poland have it far side the left. Rodriguez against Cody Baker drop the shoulder. Good defending goes into Stephan and Fry and Christian Rolldan still on the deck. Referee is gonna throw it out of bounds. He's gonna allow Christian Rolldan to potentially get some attention,

but we don't want him to get attention. That means that potentially two minutes will he get subbed there? Will Brian make a quick change. What's a crunching tackle from Christian rolled On there? It looks like he's taking the worst of it on his right adductor. But the Sounders are three minutes left, still trying to push forward. You're up to one. Get the ball into the corner, shield it and keep the Portland Timbers pin back. If you just don't let him out, you don't have to deal with that. You

don't have to make the crunching tackle. Someone step up and say we're going into the corner. That's gotta be rusnak in that situation. Guys, look up at the clock. You know it's a running clock. You know how much time there is. Put the ball in the corner. We're gonna play with three there. We're gonna keep them pinned in for two two and a half minutes and run this clock out well. The Rave Greene back on the Roads, take on Rail Salt Lake for the first time this season on Wednesday

May fifteenth, at six thirty pm Pacific. Watch the match via the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen on ninety three point three KJRFM. The Providence, Swedish pre match show starts at six pm. Sounders lorn shit long arms all over Masoski. How is that not a fell Evan? She's given by the referee, and that is exactly what the Sounders needs. Tevez on the field for rouzneck labor on the field for Christian roll down,

ninety seconds left here and anything else added by the referee. You don't put this ball into a Spriez corner. He's fresh. You come here to this side and keep it here with Muscarra, who's hardly played. Ball goes to the far side. Not what Brad Evans would have asked for for his team. As the ball goes down the line, go in the corner Vargas, yes, well done, young man. Challenge by Evander won by a Vander. Foul ball goes out for a throwing shoved over as Avanda on Vargas.

Sounds would do a good job. Just to back off now get here. In the final minute, sound is leading two goals to Wanna hear Providence part give be the here big win for the Sounds and can they hold on pauland will inevi to be potentially get one more chance Sounds he a hold strong, bull goes into Coddy Baker bounces through. Just clear your lines he does,

puts his foot behind the ball, slices it out far side. Final thirty seconds a spriars looking for a ball sound as eleven men behind the ball all comes in to Camal Miller looking for options and help as he drives forward. Sounds need to help and drive in. Given away by Danny Lavor knocks it along, perfect for the sounders. Step up your lines, Sounders hanging on here. Past the four minute mark, we'll see what The referee adds two

goals to one of the sounders up on the timbers. Here the one hundred and twentieth game of this great rivalry, dating back to nineteen seventy five. Marina picks it up top of the boxes. Must Scare plays the ball into the foot of Moura. Hacked away by Labor. Dropped in good play by Labor, knocks it down the line. Referee looks at the watch sounders, fans asking for the whistle, ball goes in. Is this the final chance? Bounce it around, don't give away anything, Cody Baker's then your feet

he does. Evander picks it up twenty five yards from Gold wriggles out of pressure to come Miller to Zuperrich slices it to this near side. Demos Squier, referee looking at his watch fifty seconds past the four minute mark. Do you approach five? It's not what you want musofsky, silly, silly, foul bright Schmetz to just live it on the sidelines. This will give the Timbers one final chance. Ball goes in short, referee just brings it back.

Well, I'm not sure where these extra minute and a half two minutes are coming from. There were a couple subs. I don't think you keep extra time in extra time for subs that were made. Sounders holding just inside their eighteen yard box. This will be the final chance for the Timbers. Can the Sounders hold strong just two yards inside their eighteens could be whipped in, get up and away Jonathan Bell, challenge by Tevez and there's the referees

whistle. Big win for the sound Here a Providence Park. In the one hundred and twentieth game of this great rivalry, the Sounders come in and scrap a big, big win. Goals buy more for the Timbers in the first half put the Timbers up one goal to nil, then two unanswered goals either side of halftime. In the nineteenth minute, Christian rolled on rolls it into the back of the net and then a moment of magic for Ruy Dias his

thirteenth goal against the Timbers in seventeen games. Brad, your final thoughts. Look a gutsy performance from the Sounders tonat and it was always gonna be Raoul on this occasion. Jonathan Bell stepping is in as a center back in his first game in a Portland Sounders rivalry. Fantastic tactical work from the Sounders, and you see it. The guy's getting together. How much this win means to them, means to the club, the traveling fans. You have to

pay big respects. And it started with the coin toss. Timbers want to tack that in in the second half. It's the mental games to little things. And the Sounders did everything right tonight to get this victory and move up the ladder. Well, as we look down Sounders players celebrating at the top of the eighteen yard box, and the first thing that Brian Schmittzer did, you walked down that sideline where the Sounders fans are and gave them a big

old fist pump, applauded their support. And that drive up the I five is gonna feel really, really good. Well, big thanks for everyone involved in today's broadcast, Mike here in the booth and us back in Seattle on the board, Keeley Dunning, Kevin Ka to Michelle Ludker on the sidelines, and of course the Sounders legend Brad Evans big time players step up in big time moments, and ralroy Diez and Christian Roldan did exactly that. For Brian

Schmitz's men, We'll take a short break, Jackson Pete Mars. We're back to break it all down, but for Providence Park in downtown Portland, and it finishes the Portland Timbuswan the Sounders two. The Sounders FC Postmat Show starts now the final for Providence Park here in Portland, Oregon.

Your Sounders have come to Portland and picked up a massive two to one win here at Providence Park. Let's head down on a field and here from Christian rolled on with Michelle Watcher. Thank you Jackson. Christian your first win against Portland seven meetings. What works so well for your squad today? Well, really important to defend well, right, This is a team that is really good in transition. So we limited them. We we asked them to

break us down a little bit more instead of playing the open game. And then we got a hell of a striker that that can you know, put the ball in the back of the net. You picked up your fifth career goal against the Timbers. That's the second most goals for any Sounders player against your rival. What is it about you playing Portland that makes you such a goal scorer. I've played a lot of games against Portland, I know. But in all seriousness, yeah, you got to you gotta step up.

Look, our team is struggling a little bit. Sometimes we don't we we don't shoot enough, and uh, you know, if you don't shoot, you don't score, right, So we got a lucky a little lucky with the deflection. But maybe that's something that we've needed third of the way through the season. Now, you guys aren't where you want to be in the standings. Given all of that, does this win carry a little bit more weight? Absolutely? We sunk Portland a little bit deeper in the standings and

we went up a little bit. So really important to uh, you know, win against against rivals obviously, but against Western Conference opponents. Uh, there's added added incentive. There's six point games. And so really happy about the about the way we've been performing in terms of the intensity and the willingness to to fight for every ball and and you know, I'm just really proud of our group. Could these performance and these three points be the catalyst you

guys need for the rest of the season. Yeah, absolutely, Look, we we talked about getting three points on the road. You know, this was a really important week because a lot of the teams around us got points, so for us, it was extremely important to get those three points. Christian always appreciate the time. Congratulations, beautiful goal. Congrats on the win. Thank you so much, appreciate it. Jason, Thanks Michelle. Happy Mother's Day as well to you and and to all moms out there. Happy

Mother's Day for all Sounders fans and Sounders moms out there. As the sound come to Portland and they send all Timbers army and all Timbers fans home, sad and the drive up I five the flights back. Whoever you're getting home. It's gonna be real, real happy tonight. Sounders two Timbers win. Welcome in to the postmatch show. Jackson feltz m's beat him out of erat

So down to the McDonald's app and redeem your free Mick Chicken tomorrow with any purchase of two dollars or more at your locally owned and operated McDonald's restaurant. Down to the McDonald's app today and check out the deals waiting for you. Well bought uh ba ba ba boys, how

about that two to one win. Let's get instant reaction here was that was a hell of a fun time p Fewing. That was a great game. I think that's what the Sounders have been looking for. The coaching staff, the players, the grit they showed was tremendous. Five subs. They all

came in and did the job. When the game ended, they all gathered at the edge of the eighteen that they were defending, and you could just tell that they they did what the kids did in the US Open Cup, which was great, you know, ground out a win and a great That goal that ruly Diaz hit was beautiful. It was about ten or fifteen passes before. So I love the celebration. I thought Bell was really good all but he's getting better and better. Everybody had I would say, at least

their best or second best performance. Everybody did their job today. So yeah, I'm thrilled. I'm thrilled for the coaches. I'm thrilled for the players and the fans. We you know, we get to sit right above them, and they were fired up. So and then at the end, Brian Schmittzer Susie game is over, shook hands with the coaching staff of Portland, went straight to the Sounder fans and gave him a thanks for you know, coming and helping us out. It was a great win for the Sounders today.

Yeah, and I thought that it was really a win. I for the fans, of course, but I think the players. This is a players win. What it mean by that is the players made their own chances. The reason why everybody played well is they took it upon themselves to say, you know what, I have to win my individual battle I have to go ahead and execute what it is the coaching staff said for me to do. And then when you do that individually and then collectively, you get great

wins like this. They were gritty, they will go dangerous. They played together, they were confident and when they needed to they executed with mister muscle, with the with the black guy tank top. We talked about, with the guns. We talked about he did. He had an eye and it is I mean, let's just get to it right now. Anders if you have the highlight you know, because we're on that subject of the Emerald quin Casino play of the match. In the fiftieth minute, there was that great

combination play. They were playing together, some really nice patching between passing between Christian Albert who dished it to Roll and Roll uses a left footed chip from twenty yards out. Here's the highlights. To give the Sounders their two to one win, bru Diaz drops it off to Christian rolled on thirty some goal goes to the foot of August the left foot of strike. What's the goal? Ruey Dearz out of nothing with his left foot finds the top corner in

front of the tai. They go silent and the sound is celebrating the fuck corner. Timbus won Soundest two. The Play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. What a goal that was from her role and it really came down to not only playing together as a team, but yeah, you mentioned too the individual performances, because every single player had their best or second best outing of the entire season. From

John Bell in the back and we were guy. This is a big test for John Bell. He flew with flying colors. Christian next to JP was excellent, Obed on the right wing was excellent, roll up top was excellent. Everybody together had these epics. I mean, how do we pick a Toyota Man of the match. How do we even do that when everybody together played exceptionally and each had great individual performances. Well, I think Ruida's goal gets him that, But you're right, everybody was really good, Morris,

just in winning headers. Yes, on cornerkicks. Everybody did their job and it's all you know, it's ninety minutes, but you got to do your job in those first minute, second, a third minute, twenty fifth minute. You have to do your job. And I thought, I thought Christian Oldan looked really good in the center of the park. I thought Ovid was good, Alex was good, Reagan was good. So you know that we

had we had one little switch off that cost us a goal. But after that there was not another time where the Sounders except except the corner kick right. But in the second half it was a really complete performance. They're gonna be very proud. It's a twenty eight minute flight home for them. They gotta go home, sleep in their bed and then onto RSL. Brian said this morning, Hey, it's a three game week. The most important game is the first one. So they got that check that box and now it's

onto RSL again. Getting those five subs on the field gives them confidence, gives the players confidence in them coming off the bench, and now they're gonna have to help out and step up when they go to RSL. Absolutely, we'll talk about RSSEL in a moment. But so Pete's vote goes to Roll for for man of the match, Moz, do you double that? I guess I would go with Ovid. See now, okay, you know this is young still his day. This is a democracy. Fair enough. When

Roll got his brace. Remember we gave the man of the match to Obed and you made the comment of like, come on now, and I gave it to Obed that day. Now I think Obed, for me, if I'm being honest with myself, might be number one. But we didn't give it to Roll just a couple of weeks ago. So your old the Toyota dealers are probably present tonight's man of the match. But I agree with you Mays, because OVID was tremendous today. I'm off for the democracy. I'm

off for the democracy. There's no doubt the end of the day. But a difference in the game was the second goal. You can't go against the game winner, like you just can't. He just picked out the corner and just curled it off. But open's ability. You guys should quick fifteen seconds please Obed. The way that he grew remember he started out playing up on the right and then he had to come back and play defense. I just think that we saw a young man really come into to his own just in

terms of all over the field. The individuality, well done, yeah, technicality, code, technical ability, coach, and I just thought he's execution as well. Just I mean, everybody I mean, and I can't say enough about the job that the back line did. I mean, Alex Roldan and knew Who both great games. I mean, I know I've been critical of knew Who here relaid, but knew Who had a great, great freaking

match. And Alex on the other side too, and John Bell. I mean there was if there was any concern about John Bell having to step in with Gomez Androtti out for a couple of weeks, no concern. John Bell well well freaking played and Reagan next to him. They had the one play, the one ball where Jonathan Rodriguez got in a good position, It was kind of just a lapse in defending where it ends up being the Mora goal

for Portland. That was a poor play. But I'm gonna ignore that one minute and remember the other eighty nine plus stoppage because overall, just fantastic performances. I know, we really got to go. It's just I want to stay on and I want to talk about this for another hour, because it was one of those days where you could you could just spend an hour reflecting on what was just a special, special day. I mean, the fact that we got to be here at Providence Sparks. Last time the Sounders won

here was twenty twenty one and it was a six to two game. We were back in Seattle doing the broadcast. And to be here today to once again see a Sounder win, it's special. There's this this place. This place has a magical atmosphere to it. You know, I can joke about how it's disgusting and smells like burnt hair and all those things jokes aside.

What an incredible atmosphere this was today, Pete Moss and clearly both fan bases were into it, were loud, engaged, hell of an atmosphere, and for the Sounders to win two to one, it just it puts the cherry on the Sunday. I mean, it makes the Sunday. The cherry was was the fans, but this was, this was an incredible time today. Go ahead. ULA's Brian's mother. Ula would be very happy with her some happy mother's day. Yeah, happy mother's day. Ula. So yeah,

it was a great win, great win. We said it before the game, the atmosphere and it is truly a great rivalry. Neville and Schmetzer walked past each other with a quick handshake. Not a lot of words, because it means a lot to each team, right, and there's really nothing you can say to a guy when you just beat him. There's nothing you can say to a guy when they just beat you. So it was a good win. Great crowd, great crowd, you got it. You know,

this is a special place. The Timbers have done a great job today. It was Seattle's day. It's just such a terrific rivalry. So now in the MLS, we're what fifteen fourteen and seven? Is that what it is now? Fifteen fourteen and seven all times? So it shows you just how close this rivalry is. And yeah, that's a great, great day. The Simms. I love that it's an afternoon game. They can go home

and get ready for RSL. Yes, and another West Coast game. Even though they got to go there, it's not as much on the body. So is that oursel game. Listen, you got to take JP off a little bit early in this game, so you think that he has a few minutes in him and the young kids just we have a great game in the Open Cup. So let's, you know, see what these young kids continue to have. But you know, the whole team is going to be riding high off as winning was. I said it in the pregame. Winning is

contagious Open Cup into today. Let's keep the contagion going to Wednesday. And I think it's what you said Jackson. The team. I think what you saw today started with the Open Cup.
