Welcome to the Sounders FC Postmat Show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Postmat Show starts now to the final here from women Field, your Sounders and the white Caps finish one to one. We're gonna jump right into it here, Jackson Thoughts, Lamar Nagel. We'll talk about the game itself and you know, the one to one, et cetera, et cetera. The play
in the postgame show. We'll do that a little bit later on. We'll also look ahead to the week ahead for your Sounders. We can all do that here in a little bit. We just have to jump right in and start with the officiating because if you're just joining us, if you're just getting in your car, what we just watched was very tough, to say the
least. I have to pick my words carefully here. So let's see in the eighty ninth minute, uh New who has a foul about five yards outside the box in the south of the stadium, and they give him a yellow card. Then the free kick is taken at short free kick back outside, a shot is taken from distance just outside the box. Knew Who, sliding in to try to block the shot is has his arm sort of curled in
and the ball the shot hits his arms. They go to var video review on the play and they look at the monitor and Victor reevs your head referee rules that it is a handball on knew Who. Ryan Gold steps to the spot in the ninety fifth minute. This whole thing, by the way, it took five minutes, so we're already talking about, you know, at a time being five minutes right now. The game ended, by the way, at ninety eighth three, so only three official minutes added should be noted.
Ryan Gold hits from the spot in the ninety fifth and this game ends one to one. All right, So Lamar Nagel, where do I start with this? I'll start here. In my opinion, the lack of consistency that we saw tonight and occasionally see in Major League soccer is appalling because in the eightieth minute, Jordan Morris has a header on the north goal where it is very clearly almost the exact same thing we see from new who. How
is that not a penalty? But that is the consistency is messed up and it results in a Vancouver penalty and a goal that makes it one to one. Lamar, what are you seeing out of this over the last you know, twenty minutes from Jordan not getting a penalty, knew who being called a penalty. I don't understand it. I can't make sense of what Victor Reeves is looking at it. Yeah, I mean I obviously see it from a
player's perspective, like frustrating. Obviously, when you're trying to create some momentum, you're having a decent game where you scored a goal and then decisions like this happen on the field. Again, it's trying to control the controllers. But when you're it feels tough when it feels like you're playing against eleven players
and then they got an extra one on on the field. But again, I mean I also see it from you know, a veteran player and now a guy who's looking after young guys playing, uh, trying to become pros and understanding that you you have to keep your head if you do know that the you know, officiating might be tough. That's just the fact that you're gonna have to play with. So don't put yourself in in poor positions. I didn't think it was a foul, all right. I thought it was
a foul on knwho. I did not think it was validated a yellow card. But you still fouled when you didn't need to, and that put the ref in the position to make a call like that. Ziggy was famous for saying that, you know, you have to put yourself in a good position. If you understand that and you're a sevy player, you know that things might go poorly towards the end of the game, so you have to be a little more conscious. That's not giving excuses or anything for for anything else,
but that's just the that's just the the environment that they're in. I want to I want to kind of put get your mindset as a player of first a player, where after they rule the new who handball? As a player, are you going to the referee and saying, why are you calling that? You know when you didn't call that On the other end, what are the conversas because obviously they're all sounders. Players are all just in Victor
Rieves's face, you know, just obviously asking what are you doing? What are those conversations like in those moments when when players are talking to the ref there, You're probably asking the wrong guy. I wasn't having too many conversations.
I was just screaming profanity at refs left and right. I meet them now, and I immediately apologize, no matter what their name is or what game they ref me in, because I was not good at keeping my cool until much later in my careerswers the question even in moments like that, Yes, I'm absolutely livid and I'm I'm asking that question absolutely. So now then
continue this player mindset in the locker room right now. Obviously they're feeling like this game and all fans driving away right now are probably feeling the same thing that two points were just stolen from the Sounders tonight. You can they can sit there and think that in this moment, but they also should have put the game away, and they're gonna know that, and the coaches are gonna
let them know that, and they're gonna know that individually. But yes, it does feel like at the end of the game somebody took it away from you, But again, it was a situation at the end of the game where it was that close, where you guys put yourself in that position. So it's tough and now you've got to figure out a way to kind of just let this fuel of fire into another two matches this next week. Right, Yeah, absolutely, Again tough on the momentum side for the Sounders right
now. It feels like when you're down, you get kicked, right, So finding a way to pull themselves out. They can take some positives from this, having some guys back from injury, de la Vega doing well and getting getting some nice minutes, so hopefully they can build off that and keep going. Yeah, it's shot. He had in a ninety eighth minute off the pace from one of the most insane angle. I mean great, I mean he was fantastic from when he came on in the what seventy fifth seventy
sixth minute or so. Just Pedro de le Vega Papo is something to watch, I'll tell you what. But yeah, I mean at the end of the day, I think everybody is leaving the stadium right now and it does feel completely unfair. And I mean you said it. You pulled the Mike Holmgren line, which is one of the greatest lines. Was It was after Super Bowl forty the Seahawks come home and Mike Holmgren is speaking to fans in this building. He's speaking to fans about Super Bowl forty and I don't I
don't think they find him for it, and you just repeated it. I think it's the best thing that you can say about this situation, which is he said, homegrin, this is Michae Holmgren. After Super Bowl forty. He said, well, I knew we'd have to play the Steelers. I didn't know we'd have to play the men in the referee suits as well. And honestly, that's kind of how it feels right now. And you said it too, and and it just it. There was moments in this game
from a Jordan tackle on the first half. We talked about it at halftime that didn't make any sense. Why you call follon Jordan? There to the inconsistency on the handball where a header from Jordan Morris hits off what appears to be, you know, a Vancouver white Cap arm and that's not called. But the new who one is when knew who appeared to have his arm tucked. I don't know what Victor Reevas the head referee, or Pierre Luke Lazire,
the var official, I don't know what they're looking at. I don't know what thought they have going through their heads to rule one not a penalty and the other a penalty. I don't get it, because we, honestly, we need answers from from from pro We need answers of why one is and why one isn't. It makes completely no sense, and I just want consistency. I just want consistency from you guys. God. Sounders and white Caps finished one to one. We'll talk about the game itself more because listen,
there was actual soccer game played amidst the officiating. We'll continue talking about the Sounders Whitecaps one to one. Next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM. Welcome back to the postmatch show. It's a final hand from alumin Field. The seagulls are flying around. They're happy. Sounder fans are not because the final score was one to one, when in our opinions,
it should have ended one. Nothing but a penalty, a late, late, questionable penalty to the Vancouver white Caps, and Ryan Gold hits the PK in the ninety fifth to make it a one to one final Jackson Feltz and Lamar Nagle here on the postmatch show. If you're just getting in your car, if you're just joining us, you missed us going off on officiating,
so make sure you check out the podcast in case you missed that. Sounders Weekly wherever you get your podcast that includes all of our full match broadcasts and postmatch shows. Listen, we got to talk about overall the situation. But you know, tonight's Toyota Man of the Match could be one of many people in the stadium. Hero is Jeorde Morris. Jordan Morris got the goal there
in the ninth minute of this game. Your local Toyota dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the Match. I thought a lot of Sounders had very good games out of this one, but unfortunately we weren't able to find that second goal. Also a couple other notes sound trans that would like to remind everyone to obey all signs and signals went around train tracks. Light roll trains are quiet and come in both directions, so stay away and play it safe.

Slash ride dash with dash us and Sounder's FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. So lamar this one one game. You know, I think we can talk about this the first eighty nine minutes of this game, and we should because Sounders got the early goal and then defensively they did exactly what we wanted them to see. They they kind
of just kept shutting down Vancouver attacks. Offensively, they held the ball in large possession spells that just kept the ball away from Vancouver and try to exercise the tired legs of Ryan Gold Brian White. Overall, this game for eighty nine minutes went as well as we could have helped for. Yeah, I think the one thing I would have liked to have seen obviously another goal right then that puts it away a few more chances, a little bit more dynamic,
but it is a Sounders team that's trying to find that right. A lot of times, I think the success from the Sounders in the last few years has comed off transition, and we didn't see a ton of transition opportunities, a lot of possession, a lot of really good possession in their half. But I would like to see that where Jordan can break out where Rudiez can get breakout, maybe some early crosses, something along those lines. How
much can Pedro Daleivega help with that now that he's back. Yeah. Absolutely. You have somebody that can dribble and beat a few guys, that draws other people and releases the stress on some other guys and creates overbalance on one side of the field. Just being creative and being able to move the ball. We saw glimpses of that, not too much, but obviously he was limited with minutes, but the amount of time when he does have the ball,
there's almost an excitement. Whether that's coming from the players on the field or the fans in the stands, we don't know, but it's there and people want to see more of it. And I think we saw from this team when when they're leading the game, you know, aside from that one moment when they're leading a game, the ability of a guy like rus Snack and the ability of JP who was in there for a long time as well
to kind of just I mentioned the spells of possession. I mean I watched at the start of the second half, we got the ball, Vancouver gave it to us at about I want to say it was about the forty forty five and forty five second mark and Vancouver didn't touch the ball again until the clock said forty nine to fifty. I mean it was it was this wild stretch where it's kind of just like does Vancouver notes one nothing right now?
Like just they're just letting the Sounders have a training session, and it shows you, And that doesn't take anything away from the Sounders. It's more to say, like a phenomenal job of all these guys to be able to kind of just say, we know we are exceptional passers. We're just gonna pass the ball around you and there's nothing you can do about it. Yeah. I think there's no question of the quality on the field. It's how these
pieces fit together and how we can get efficient offensively and more creative. And I think dal la Vega hopefully is the key that kind of unlocks that for us, but then hopefully that spurs some motivation for other guys as well. Yeah, exactly, I mean competition breeds success, right, and as dal la Vega comes back, I mean, you know, looking ahead to Saint Louis a week from tonight, you know, the Sounders playing in Saint Louis
against Sint Louis City. I think the question is, if Pedro dale Vega is healthy enough to start that game, who is the odd man out? I mean, with way Rawuld's playing, I don't think you can take Roul off. You have Russknack and the Russnacks use me. In the ten. You have Christian, you have JP, you have Ovid who's been playing well. You have Jordan on the left wing. Who's the odd man out of that group as Pedro re enters the starting lineup. Yeah, it's gonna be
a good question, a good problem to have for Schmitzer. Hopefully you can figure it out soon. Hopefully so well. I'll tell you that Delta Airlines is product proud to donate excuse me, one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders sc players this season through Ray Foundations one Mile, one Ball program. Open Cup. I mean, it was dramatic. We were all there watching Andrew Thomas, the heroics of Andrew Thomas there about a week and a half ago, and you'd think it's gonna be Andrew Thomas again and with some you know, good rotation. Georgie. We've seen good things out of him obviously not sure what the lineup will look like, but just to see those guys continue to build the confidence as we continue to make a run in the Open
Cup. Yeah, those are always fun games, especially early on, right we get to see a few guys that we haven't seen before and they get to prove themselves and gain a little bit of confidence. So it'll be interesting. Like we were talking about before, momentum is huge and the Sounders need a little bit, so a win would be amazing, especially against a side that's that's been pretty good in the Open Cup and in their own league, their own right in Phoenix Rising. So we'll see what kind of mix they
come with, especially with guys coming off injuries. It'll be Yeah, it'll
be a good game. Before I'll let you go to night tell us and tell the listeners what as a player, that magic of Starfire and that intimate atmosphere feels like to a player, Yeah, there's nothing quite like it when the fans are right on top of you, and especially I always have good memories of it because just like I talked about young guys getting their opportunities, that's where I was getting my opportunities, and we were very successful early on.
So those games were amazing and fun and it was always a great atmosphere at Starfire and so well, I always look forward to those. I did the broadcast for the last Open Cup game and it just brings back some nostalgia. That was a fun broadcast. Well done, Achille donning o broadcast broduser here putting that together where it was you, it was Riley, was Marcus all kind of interchanging out what an awesome broadcast as was. And we'll have
