Well, the guys are singing jingle bells in Austin tonight as your Sounders once again go on the road and pick up another victory, another huge three points as the Sounders beat Austin FC by a score of one to nothing. Night. Jordan Morris The goal in the sixty third minute
gives the Sounders their win. That is five consecutive wins now across all competitions. It's sixteen points in their last six games in MLS action. Kellen row, Brad Evans, Jackson Feltz here for the postmatch show and Kellen, this team is on fire right now. We talked about it at a pre game. Let these guys run around top four guys haven't played together yet, but can they come out and make something happen? Can the back six really shut
things down? Which I think we definitely happen in the first half. We go in zero zero. You put on your playmakers of Alva Rusnak and the Gold starer Jordan Morris, and you see, you know, see how things happen, and these guys had some quality. And I think the midfielders were really good today, especially winger Paul Rothrock was incredible, and these guys took care of business. Yeah. Look, I think we asked a lot of this team early in the season as to which way the season was gonna go.
And I think you can really pinpoint the cumulative red cards that the team took, right. I think it was seven at the halfway point of the season, and that's more than most teams getting an entire year. So there were gonna be hiccups. Those were the hiccups. But it's it was really trusting Schmidtz and trusting the players when they talked to the press, saying no, we're a good team, we're together in the locker room. I don't think the fans believed it. I don't think us watching it believed it.
But I think it was a case of just getting guys together and on the same page consistently for more than three or four games. And it's the proof is in the putting. It's worked and that has been the catalyst for this team moving forward. Was it beautiful today. No, but you're playing away from home, it doesn't have to be beautiful, and you just have to get the result. And then you come home and play a Saint Louis team
that's struggling. That's when you can start to play that beautiful soccer that we've seen from the Sounders at home this season. We talk about that transition from that being in the season to that this part of the season. Now when we're on this run, I look at guys on the field and I'm looking at a guy like Paul Rothrock. And I'm not saying he was that catalyst,
but he's been the one that's kind of made sure it continues. I mean, whether he's coming off the bench for five ten minutes and running around like a madman, or he's now starting games and making things happen, and honestly, he's creating things out of nothing. Look at the goal today, He's he's scrapping, he's running around, he's making sure that Jordan has room for the goal today. He is he is that guy for me that has
turned over and made sure that this streak has continued. With his work rate, well, there's no substitute for hard work and you and I know that, right, Yeah, decent players, but we worked harder at everyone else. That's how we got in, that's how we stayed in teams, right, And that's that Schmeetzer's job. But it's also the player's job to make Schmitz make the decision, like, are you gonna have a guy that's really technically gifted but they're not going to do the work on and off the ball?
Or do you want to put a guy who's you know, pretty good on the ball, but is going to do the work. And I think as a player, you would rather have the guy that's going to do the work around you. And that's infectious that that that breeds a culture of hard work and then the technical ability shines through. At the end of the day, I thought that I was going to have to take some time next segment and try to convince you guys, because I have a written Paul Rothrock man
of the match question mark No, Stephan Frye. I mean, fry the
reason you win the game. Those two saves down to his left are world class and yeah, you know, you go up a man, but honestly, it's harder sometimes to play against a team that is desperate with ten guys on the field, and they'll change a formation a little bit and then it's a lumping balls And it seems like it would be easier when you're a man up, but when there's ten fifteen minutes left in the game, sometimes it's a bit more difficult to get your bearings and figure out tactically on how you
exploit things. Any team is going to get chances at the end of a game because they're just going to lump balls in and it is thefficult away from home even to play a man up forty ninth minute, that huge save on on the Juris he had her on the corner, and then the ninety first minute that other corner that you don't know how he saw it. There was a group of what looked to be thirty five people in front of him and he somehow dives to his left and gets a hand on it. You good
with Fry as well, calling hi me, he had a day. I am Look, I think Jordan's had enough in the past three weeks. He's been man in the match enough. He gets his goal, he's done well. You know, he makes sure the fans hear him as well. My other one would have been ovid Vargas. The run on Jordan's goal. Well, we talk about you know, we wanted to see de la Vega really
go at players, go at players and make something happen. And then in the end it's ovid Vargas, the guy who's sitting right behind him, that is the one doing it, and he just glided through the back line. And for me, it was actually the touch path, the lift over the sliding foot, yeah, over to Paul Rothrock. That was incredible. The whole sequence was was, I mean, so mature and from Obed. I mean, like you said, it's creating the space on that square ball to
then let the ball come across you and cut out the defender. There's no way a defender can make up ground then because you're going full speed forward and they're gonna come at you from behind. And then yeah, that touch was incredible. But then it's the awareness to get rid of the ball. That's one thing, you know, I think Pedro de la Vega has that in
him. And now it's just getting into the game. Because when we watch Obed early in his career, he would give up the ball too late and then it's a counter attack right now you're saying that's youth that's experienced, and once you get that from Pedro de la Vega, I think you're going to see a different side. But that was a difference tonight between the two was
Obed's patience on that play and how he's maturing as a player. And we saw the back angle from behind the goal for Jordan, the tight angle he had to slip that in with his left foot into the back of the net. Exceptional from that an entire play, you could probably guess what's gonna be our Emerald Quing Casino play the match coming up next segment. I think it is a testament to who he is as a player and how he takes care of his body and just to be on the field and give himself a chance, right, But then you know he was in Toronto, he had a leg break, he had to fight through that. He came to Seattle in twenty fourteen and had to prove himself and that was a huge turnaround for the club. Right, you win a supporter Shield that year and then off you go and staking
his claim as the best goalkeeper in Sounders' history. And it's a credit again, like I said, to his hard work, and I mean he's a guy that's not going to celebrate that. Yeah, it's a tip of the cap. Hopefully the Sounders acknowledge it in some way. But you know, the Sounders have been very good defensively throughout its inception in two thousand and nine, and he does all the right things. When he's called upon, he makes a save and he just makes very few mistakes. He's just been so
technically sound. So I know that he gives a lot of support to the guys that push him, and Andrew and the guys that have been here in the past, and also to Tommy Dutra. Right, I mean, he's
second to none and a goalkeeper trainer. So you can't win championships or at least make runs in the playoffs without picking up shutouts, and it's huge to have a goalkeeper like Stephan Fry. Look, he's he's one of those guys, like you said, he's going to give a lot of credit to his back line, to the midfield, to the guys he's played with, but as us as players have played with him, as as fans as well.
You look at these these games that he's getting these shutouts. It's not ones where he's just collecting across or or you know, grabbing something real easy right at him. He's making these amazing state saves. I mean, you talk about it. You look at the one in the final where he's making this outstretched fingertip. I don't know how he's getting there kind of thing. The one tonight where he's going down to the left side and we couldn't see it.
We're watching it, you know. So he's making these incredible saves. And so as much as he credits his back line and his players in front of him, he is pulling these shutouts out of himself. So he's he's well well credited, and we really hope he gets that second, if not first place, yeah, for sure. And well Nick nick Romondo is so far off where you know he takes care of his body really well. Stephan does. But that's that's a bit much. I think you would have to
have shutouts for an entire season, and I don't even think. I don't think that would get him to Romando's. So but still, I mean, he's close to the second place, and that's so impressive. So well done to Steph on another shutout tonight in a one nothing Sounders win. It'll be quite the battle of goalkeepers coming up on Wednesday. We'll tell you about that coming up. If the Saturders, if this had ended zero zero or even one one, I would have been pretty darn frustrated based on the lack of a penalty there. But bald don't lie. Yeah, they got smoked by Vancouver in Saint Louis. This is a team that came in last year and blew everyone
away from top to bottom. They seemed almost unbeatable, and especially as an expansion side, they kind of came out of nowhere and the coach and the players and everything was clicking, firing on all cylinders, amazing goalkeeper, strikers everywhere, and they just have not been able to put it together this year. And I don't know if you can pinpoint one thing with them, but you know, you would hope and think that at home you're not gonna get
a drubbing of four to one. So I think if that game was close, they might have some hope coming into Seattle. But that's a quick turnaround for them to come into Seattle on Wednesday night and face a team that's just as hot, if not hotter, than Vancouver's been, and it's a great opportunity for the Sounders to pick up another three points. And then obviously after that one think about LAFC and really tests yourself on where you stand in the
Western Conference standings. Well, it's a team that's obviously struggling all year in Saint Louis, and like you said, they're going to be traveling on a short week into Seattle, who was very, very hot. But I don't know what it was about last year with Saint Louis that they came in. It's almost like every little bounce went their way. What was it like three or four games in a row where Klaus got a ball handed to him and then he was in one on one with the goalie and those those lucky bounces
aren't going their way. And I'm not sure that you know how to dig out of that hole yet, you know, being an expansion team and not having the experience maybe in things of that sort. But you talk about hope. We talked about this and say on Tuesday with Sacramento, Seattle needs to make sure that they come out hot, because you don't want to give a team like Saint Louis like, oh maybe this is the turn of our season. You don't want to give him that chance. And so Seattle needs to
come in go on the front foot. Right away and make sure that this team dies at half. These were always my favorite games. Is if we pick up a result on the road and then the team's traveling to home on a quick turnaround and they just got smack four one. You're looking your chops, yeah, at this team coming in because you're you're, you're on such a high. You've proven that you can win what five six games in a row now, which is I mean, you can't ask for anything more,
and so you really have the opportunity to take that step forward. And how tight it is with Vancouver winning Portland being up right now, I mean there's still no room for air, and so these home games have to become a fortress, which is crazy because Austin was so good at home this year, right they were at the time six three and two I think yep, at home before before tonight, and now the Sounders have to do that at home at Lumenfield on Wednesday night. Now rested some guys as well, I mean
you rested at half. You brought in Jordan Morris, you brought in Albert Rucenk, you know, Peter Deladavia got some minutes as well. Christian Roland didn't even travel he's having his baby now or his wife is at least uh, it's it's great. So I think we have an opportunity to get on top of them very very very quickly and have guys at with fresh legs and our best guys with fresh legs. Yeah, it's gonna be fun. On Wednesday, it's really right there with the Sounders to pick up another three points.
So Saint Louis City coming to town. We'll talk to you right here seven o'clock Providence, Swedish prematch show on Wednesday night, and we'll have that game for you there on Wednesday.
