Welcome to the Sounders FC postmatch show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish, official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC postmat Show starts now. Well, Mama said, there every days like this, gentleman, and this is one of those days. Seattle Sounders losing tonight at Lumenfield to Vancouver a final score up two to nothing. Seattle ended the night down two men red cards from Jackson Reagan, a play that we
will certainly talk about here in the postmatch show. And also ale Troldn got a red card just simply a moment of frustration for Alex and he was sent off as well. In the second half, Sounders lose to nothing. Brad Evans p viewing len ms Jackson felt here for the postmatch show. Brad, I'm not sure what to start with that. That was not a fun ninety minutes there. Yeah, I mean, if we break it down right,
the first half was okay, and then the red card happened. Yeah, it changed the complexion of the entire game, especially in a rivalry game. We saw the same thing, what was it last year or two years ago when Portland played here and Jackson gets a red card also, and then it changes the complexion of that game here at Loomin Field, and then we have a chance again though at the end of the first half. Jordan gets up
and it's a free header and it's not even on target. And this game is made of these tiny little moments within this giant ninety plus minute game that if you don't capitalize on those, or you make a mistake, you can get punished. And sometimes you watch the game as a whole and we think,
what could we have done better? But when you start to really analyze it, right, it's that mischance, And then it's the giveaway from Yamar and then it's a giveaway from Ariyoga, two gifts that gave Vancouver the victory tonight. And then we come down on the other end with a couple seconds left, down two men and there's a volley from eight yards out that's hit straight at the goalkeeper. Right, So we finished the first one. It's
one nothing, Sounders going in a halftime. Yes, we give them two goals, but then we still have an opportunity at the end to tie this game if things had played out as they should and the Sounders just haven't been able to capitalize in front of net, regardless of if they're going to give up chances in the back. Disappointing night for the Sounders. We said at halftime that sometimes players elevate their game when they play a man down, and
that didn't happen tonight, right. That goal from Yamar was just a silly mistake. Maybe tired brain, tired mind, and just wasn't focused at that time. Who's telling them to clear that ball? Get it out of bounds? I don't care. And then they get punished, right, and then it's frustration from Alex and it's a scrape on the shin and that's that's definitely a red card in that situation. And then the wheels just fall off for the Sounders tonight. Yeah, when it's bad, it's bad, right.
And you know, we've had so many years here where we've created luck and we've gotten a right bounce to the ball or a great finish, as you just said, and right now we are not having any good fortune in those moments where you got to put those away, you know. And Josh hit it well, but he hit it right at the goalkeeper unfortunately, And you know, that could have made it two to one. Then all of a
sudden, you're dumping balls in the box hoping for a restart. But we're not creating the luck, the energy isn't isn't manifesting some kind of success for the team. And then gosh, these silly mistakes. I mean, I'm with you. You're a center back and you're you know, the first one, you're inside your own six and you're playing a ball out and giving it away and then ari Aga dribbling out. Yeah, just not when you're playing down a man like you can't play those balls't You can't be get it out
and get forward. Right. The way that you're set up offensively when you receive the ball is there are straight lines. Right. If I'm playing a center back, I have one to my left, and then I have a diagonal usually to my right, and then a diagonal to my left. In that situation, I think it's obed that's showing feet straight. So anytime I play a straight ball, the defense is set up so that they're negating anything straight, and then one drops in to negate any forty five degree angle pass.
So in that moment, you can't make a straight ball to a straight runner. That's like the biggest no no in soccer. Straight ball. Straight runner never works. Diagonal ball, diagonal runner, most likely that ball's taking you out of bounds. So it's it's the little tiny mistakes where we think we have to play pretty No, you're a man down, cleared out, get reset. No one's gonna as long as you keep the ball out of the back of the net, Steph will be happy. Yeah, and and
went in doubt. Just kick it out of bounds, right, you know, get it thirty five yards up the field and get it out. That's just and it's just so demoralizing. You know, Alex's red card might not happen if it's one zero, right, but he's frustrated and there's no excuse. I mean, he definitely did it. You know. He was upset with the referees on one of the throw ins and then out, and then Christian on the on the kickoff, was upset that it was taking so much
time, and so it just boils over. But it compounds, right and gets worse and worse. But yeah, we shot ourselves in the foot today by not getting rid of that ball and getting it out. And I feel for Steph because there's not anything nothing to do, could do. I mean, he makes a fantastic safe to keep it at two nil and then takes it, you know, a stomp on the knee also or a cramp, We're not sure, you know, it makes a fantastic save there. So
neither of those two goals are his fault. That was all up to, you know, the center backs making decisions that they don't normally make. Yeah, and out. Is it desperation from this team at this point that we're seeing like we feel like we have to play pretty and dribble out of pressure. You know, at the end of the day, when you're a man down, you're playing for knockdowns. You set it at halftime, you're playing for set pieces. The only way to do that is to move the ball
up the field as quick as possible. NFL football, I still love it. Kids, when you're watching this at home, this is what you do, gids, if you're watching the night's game. Get the ball out of the box. Get it out, don't mess around with it anybody, get it out. Well, you had one bad red card decision, which we'll get into, two bad giveaways that led to Vancouver goals, and three points for the white Caps tonight here at Lumenfield. We'll talk about that red card
to Jackson Reagan. We talked about it at halftime. We'll go over it again. That comes up next on the post match show. Well, each week we do an Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match. Obviously nothing too much to go from from this game, I will say tonight we do look at the career and the Emerald Queen Casino play the match is the career of Lord, longtime Chief Medical Officer and team orthropedic surgeon doctor
Michael Morris, who announced earlier this week his retirement. Doctor Morris has obviously been with this club since the days at the USSL, so his career is our play of the match, presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. What a career it has been for doctor Michael Morris.

in the late of the first half. Forty third minute after a var review, Jackson is sent off. It forces a change in the forty sixth minute of forty five plus one, Brian Schinzer takes off Rollery Diaz puts on Hobby or Ariaga, but the red card itself, which obviously changed this game. We just watched it again. I mean, listen, I said at the halftime show, it's an embarrassing it's one of it is probably the worst red card I've ever seen. Brad, we just watched it again. We can
reiterate the same things about how egregious it is. But what did you see when you just watched that again from Jackson and Reagan? Well, I got a better red card for you. That's worse than that. In Vancouver, I did a fake headbut because it was a retaliation if someone tried to headbut me, and the referee gave me a card, had sent me off the field. But we won the game. So I scored a PK in that game, and we ended up winning that game, and and all was well,
seeing jingle bells in the locker room. But as we watch that replay, I think, you know, Jackson does he puts pressure and then he pushes Gall to the ground, and then he steps and I just don't think, you know. Keeley, our producer, said, you know, it's momentum, and I think she's right that there was really nowhere else for him to step. These these moments happened in a split second. And then what I always tell the referees when I'm coaching my high school team is just look
at the reaction of the other team, right. I always want them to take an evaluation of anyone throwing their hands up because maybe I did miss something. But I think in that situation he did get it wrong. It's it's a yellow card at worst. And then then Gaul gets up and plays the game and he's totally fine. He plays, you know, the remainder of this game. So you know, egregious, yes on on behalf of the referee, but the player not. In that instance, Yeah, there was
no hint from Gaul of any kind of damage. You know, he wasn't a limp, and he was up and he was and hit. You're right, his response and even Evenson's response when he hit him was not exactly. He wasn't standing over. If Jackson wants to hurt someone, he'll hurt someone. He's sixty five, you know, two hundred and ten pounds. If he wanted to hurt little tiny Ryan Gould, He's gonna do it right.
And that was an instance of making a statement, Yes, it's a rivalry game, it's gonna referee's got to know that there's gonna be hard challenges, right, but you got to let those things play. And like I said, you really have to read the game and look at the reaction of the opponent. And no one's screaming. Yet the guy's up here is screaming because
they see it from you know, one hundred yards up here. But I just think upon review still in that instance is not enough to warn a bread Yeah, and I normally don't say stuff like this, but that really changed the energy of the game. It really shifted the momentum. And then having to take Ruy Diaz off, that's tough. He's our leading goal scorer. And you said it, if we got a penalty kit, we don't have
the guy who takes our PK. So it disrupted the team. But the momentum shifted to a team that right now is creating a ton of luck for themselves. And now they're top up at the table and they're they're rolling. But I think the momentum changes with the record that the Sounders have. It the Sounders were at sixteen points and go a man down. I think it's
a different mentality. The reality is is that they're one four, one, three and two at the time, right before this loss, and so I think that it's a kind of woe is me, like, oh boy, here we go again. Right, But if you're on the flip side of that, everything's like, okay, boys, we got this. Let's grind out a draw here. And that's where you see the frustration from Alex rolled on with his because he knows at that point, like you know, it
definitely is just the frustration coming out. And yeah, I can't. I can't imagine that locker room right now. That's that's not going to be fun to You want me to go in there, you want to go in there. I mean, I'd love for you to go in there, and steady fantastic. Yeah. Well, Brian Schmitzer, Yeah, who knows what what what he's saying in that locker room. But the Sounders falling tonight to the
way, well let's talk about that coming up to the next segment. But Delta Airlines is proud to doing it one soccer ball for every mile ran by soundersc players this season the Ray Foundation's one Mile, One Ball program. We'll talk about what that locker room might be like and how the Sounders move forward to DC next Saturday. That's Next on the postmatch show Sports Radio ninety three

Welcome back to the postmatch show from Loomingfield, where your Seattle Centers have fallen tonight if by a final score of two nothing to the Vancouver white Caps.
Well, let's go in the heads of a former player and a former teammate of Brian Schmitzer, Brad Evans p Hewing as we as we wrap up the postmatch show here, I guess take us into the head and take us into the locker room for how Brian Schmeenzer handles a game in a situation that
played out here tonight. Brad, I'll start with you. Yeah, I think he's going in that locker room saying, look, I know we can't do anything about the Jackson Reagan, but we can control what happens in the second half and how we play in the mentality in that second half, and it wasn't good enough. And then I think he probably gets fired up after that because to him, I don't think enough of those players understand what rivalry games are and how much it means to play in these and maybe we've lost
a little bit of that. Maybe we've lost that you know, kind of bite about who we're playing against and and how much it does mean to the fans and the Cascadia Cup, and so I hope he gets angry because the second half, those mistakes are avoidable, right, And that's what's gonna upset him the most because even after all that we get we get a corner kick at the very end and have a chance to score. So the effort is
there. We can't fault anyone's effort overall. But it's just a decision making on the day against against a really good Vancouver side that will punish you. Now you go to you go to Dallas and make those mistakes. They're not going to punish you because they're they're not good enough this year. But when you look at the table, the teams that are up top are doing it
for a reason because they are punishing teams when they make mistakes. Yeah, I think it's he's done it long enough, and he knows they've got so many important games coming. There's there's there's what you want to say, and then there's what's the right thing to say to reposition your team for the next game, and and uh, you know, as a head coach, I've had those moments where you say too much and you regret it. He's smart
enough to know. I'm going to say a few things. Hopefully honestly, the two center backs who gave up goals raise their hand and go, hey, that's my fault. And hopefully Stephen Frye, you know, says a few things to get the guy's brains right. But I think he I think he's I think his less is more. I think he'll think that. I think by not saying too much, by just looking at the guys, he'll
get his message across. But he's starting to look for what's next. But you know, I think he talks about we need the fans, and I think he'll bring up see how many people left the game? Right, that's not that is very unusual for this franchise to see that many people walk out. Yeah, not a good site there around the eighty eighty fifth minute or so in nine to five minutes where we just saw hundreds of people walk out.
That is not the site we wanted to see at all. But yeah, and in terms of what's next for the Sounders, a week from today, Sounders will be at DC United. It'll be a four to thirty kickoff, four o'clock Providence. We just pre match show umibly to hear that match over on our sister station on Sports Radio at nine fifty KJR AM nine to fifty am.
