Welcome to the Sounders FC postmatch Show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC postmatt Show starts now. Well, unfortunately and for your Sounders it is a two to one loss at DC United as Christian Bentechi scores two goals, Stephan Frau gets a red card and we are left with a Sounders second consecutive loss

here in the Nation's Capital. Tonight, Jackson Feltz Brad Evans geo audio here for the postmatch show as we break down the two to one loss and what all happened, and you know, as we begin, we'll get into, you know, the officiating in our next segment. I think there's a lot to discuss there, and Brad, you have some really interesting terminology to discuss

about. But just overall, the last forty five minutes that we just watched, I think the two to one is especially frustrating, and it's a bit more frustrating in a context than the Vancouver game last week because this team, Brad, in the last forty five minutes, played so well, had lots of opportunities a point was there for the Rave Green in this one. Yeah, I mean, you wouldn't have known that the Sounders are playing a man down in that half. It may have looked like DC was playing a man

down or maybe even two. But that's a mentality that we talked about last week at halftime that the Sounders needed to take into the second half. It doesn't matter if you're a man down. If everyone gives that little bit extra effort, you can find yourself still in good positions. And it last week it was the woe was me attitude. This week was oh, we saw this seven days ago, and we know we talked about it probably after the

game that if we give maximal effort, there's still something there. If it was three nothing, it'd be different, right, You're just trying to get a little something. Matter of fact is that's not a very good DC team, and the Sounders had high quality chances that in that second half, three or four good chances to put the ball in the back of the net.

And at the end of the day, it's about having that finishing touch and the Sounders just have not found it this year and they get punished for it for you know, to I mean, mistake in the in the first half, and they find themselves again on the wrong side of a result despite playing really well. Schmeetz will go into that at the end of the game, saying, I cannot fault your effort. I can't fault even the way that you played at all. Right, everything was good in that second half.

They didn't give them many opportunities at all. You could see it almost a defeated DC team. They didn't celebrate after the game. It was like, thank God, that game's over with, right, and that's not usually the sign of winning a game at all. Yeah, no, I take.

My take is especially second half the way they played, not the attitude, but also I think the football we saw right, and also the camaraderi and every play they were fighting and DC United, I think I was expecting at this unit actually different to come and just you know, try to score one more goal and just you know, get the game, because they had the

advent that one more player. But at the end of the day, I was really surprised with seattleing that, And I'm not surprising in a sense that Brad, You've been there right in halftime, especially after losing losing to one, having seven private red card is like, Okay, this is is now or never. Right, we're down. We need to do something, and they showed I think now, besides the result, it's it's a it's a

good symptom of having that against now thinking of the next game. We'll talk about it, but I think at least it's it's a even though it's a loss, it ends on a good note with that good good play and yeah, unfortunately you know Christian could have put it in. And also there were so many chances. But at the end of the day, I think you have to take those little wins and those little details of this game for the next game that that really you need to close and get get the points.

At the end of the day, it's such a massive opportunity for Christian rolled on there and at a time and russ Knack had Rusnak had a header that you know, got saved two and you had a ten to you off the post. I mean, so many chances now went. But Brad, it really does feel like and kind of take us into that locker room coming off of a loss, it does feel like there will be a lot more fuel to the fire to get a result in Philadelphia than there was fuel coming out

of the Vancouver Fire into this match. The guys should be feeling, I don't know, confident going into Philadelphia that they played so well, even a man down question. Look in the locker room, you're asking yourself, we still haven't put together a full team performance where we've had eleven v eleven this entire season. Right, the Montreal game was a red card and they're often running and they punished them. So we are still yet to see the best

of this Sounders team. Well, I think a lot of the league has found their stride and they're off and running. So the question is is it too late. I don't think it's too late. It's going to be a dogfight to push thrue summer and to push into the latter ends of the month, and there's still something left and that has to motivate the guys too. The season isn't over just yet, right, They're still you asked, was

twenty sixteen the same as now? Yeah, it was different because basically we thought that the season was over and we're playing for pride at that point or right now, there's still something to be had in the season. So I think at the end of this game, they're thinking we should have gotten a point out of that versus Vancouver was we made dumb decisions and we got punished

for him. I don't think there was too much of that tonight. I think really you can take some positives from the way that we played in the second half. You can't take positives from the results. It's a loss again. It's another loss in the in the category, and that's how we are determined if we make the playoffs or not. And who has a job and who doesn't have a job. Right, it's not because you play good soccer and you're losing games. At the end of the day, it's about getting

results. So little bit of positivity to take from the way we played,

but still it's it's a loss. We're back in the loss column. Now how we always come into this segment after Sounders wins with taking care of business? I feel like we need to like have a song for losses like the Life of Brian saw a Life of Brian's song always look on the

bright side of life. Yeah, Sounders falling back to back Vancouver last week in DC United this week, but it is time for Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match. The Sounders started this match great. They looked fantastic before the red card to Stephan Frye and the big play of the match. But in that first half hour was the goal from Leo Chu for us Like inside the Box finds Jordan Morris Whipslo on the six job bucks back of the net.

Leo Chu watch us stop by the Sounders and that's exactly what Brian Schmidtz asked for his team a response from last week, and they give it here in d C DC United nil Sounders won. The Play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. I also want to mention that Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Jackson Feltz Brad Evans Diego audio here on the postmatch

show. And let's go back to the officiating decisions because there's a couple to discuss here. The first is the obvious red card to Stephan Frye, so let's hit on that first, and then we'll hit on the play at the start of the second half that we believe should have resulted in a Seattle penalty. Brad, you found the language regarding dogsow denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity and which is what they ruled for Stephan Frye penalty for DC, as

well as the red card to Stephan Frye. But it's the language that's very interesting regarding if Steph actually deserved a red. Yeah. So clarification from long time Sounders fan supporter Paul Cox wrote me a long text message referee as well, I believe. So if it's violent conduct or serious foul play, it's absolutely a red card, right. But as a ref you go through the four d's direction of play, defenders, if they are defenders there, distance

to the ball, will he get to it, distance to goal? So if there is successive force, that was the big question from Steph arguing with the fourth with the fourth referee, so if it's a trip like you stabbed at it but missed and kicked him or tripped him, then it should be downgraded. Right, That's that's his opinion. And I'm sure you know going over all these rules in and out, it's it's an extremely long text. But that's why Steph was arguing, Right, he actually does make it.

He knows that the players there. But if he's saying I am actually trying to make a play on the ball, which he does, he sticks his hands out in the direction of where the ball is going. If he had grabbed him and pulled him down way different. He's not making a play on the ball and he's already on the ground. So yes, that's that is a red card, but in this situation, it's got to be a yellow card. So he thinks the club should consider fighting fighting this one and seeing

it can get overturned. Now it doesn't matter because Andrew Thomas has to start versus Philly. Anyways, Stephan Fry would be out for the Galaxy game next Sunday, which is a big one. And you know Andrew Thomas has played extremely well, but there's something to be said about having Steph in that lineup, right, So it's got to be a play for the ball and it's and it's pretty strict, and I think he does but he although he does take out the player, but it's not dangerous. It's not excessive force.

To me, it's not a red card. Give the penalty, give a yellow card, get on with the game. Die. He is a Sounder. I'm a Sounder fan. I'm always going to side with the Sounders, and I think it's crap. But you are very impartial, obviously, you know you're an MLS Season Pass Apple TV broadcaster. If you're calling that match as an imp Marshal broadcaster, what's your take on it? Yeah, I mean it's to me, it just shows in general how the referee today tonight

was was calling the game. So it was pretty pretty soft in a lot of the yellow cards and in particular in display. I mean, sadly, I'm not surprised that he brought the red card, but I agree with Brady in terms of not being aggressive, because at the end of the day, yeah, it's a foul, and you stand ford, he is trying to you know, touch or hit the layer. But I mean he was not going to get it right, but at least he wanted to, you know,

just a little tap for the play. But he's not aggressive, I think because a yellow card, because I think Steph does commit the foul, he knows it. If he thinks it's going to be a red card, I think he pulls out of it and at least lets him try and score a goal. Might as well take a goal and keep eleven players on the field, versus Steph saying, oh, if I take him down, I know, I know it's going to be a red card. Yeah, because the think in that point, right, if it's going to be an automatic

red, then you don't make the faults. Let him course you and I end up with ten players and then a goal. So it's to me the he can set a bad president in that sense, right, Well, how can then the goalkeepers and say, okay, I'm not gonna go for the I'll just let him walk by scry exactly instead of getting a record. How can one play change that? I mean one play. It's a penalty plus

a red card. It's just the whole point of dogshow is to eliminate that, right because if it's a yellow card, right, because he's actually making a play, it's not excessive. That's up to the referees discretion. So I just think that the referee got it wrong. And it's not to say that it didn't come from an error in the back line. Like everything happens in a domino effect in soccer. It's not just STEP's fault. It's not

just a referee's fault. But that's why the referee is there, is to make sure that these plays and and you know, ultimately sending off are you know, egregious or following the rules. Now, the interesting thing is to reference a comment you just made, Diego. It kind of showed how he was calling the match. In the first forty five minutes, everything was getting a yellow, right, But then in the first couple of minutes of the

second half, we see Cody Baker make a run down the left. He's good, he gets into the box, and then Aaron Herrera puts two hands on Cody Baker's back. Looks like he gives him a little bit of a shove. Cody Baker's goes down. No fouls called, No penalty for the Sounders. So if you are calling the match that tight and everything deserves a yellow, how does that not even get a foul bad which would have been a penalty. I think from the referees angle, it's hard to see.

I think Herrera's body is blocking the referees view to see if there are even two hands on it. But then what's the point of var But then VR has to be one hundred percent certain that it is a penalty kick for it to be overturned. So we're gonna talk about this for the next ten or fifteen years until there's robots and AI that determine the exact rules of the game and follow it, you know, to a t. But it's these little nuances that it's up to the referees discretion. I'm not sure that it's it's

a PK. If I'm DC, I think that's a soft pk. But again I think it's it's a pk for sure. On the sounders, it's just not a red card. Yeah. To me, about we're talking about during the broadcast too, is that there's no consistency then from the referee, right, because if it's a I agree it could be a soft pek, but then if you already gave a red card for Stephan Fries's foul, this should be a penalty, right, also if you see all the other yellow

cards. So at the end of the day, Yeah, it's hard to see from the referee, but I think in the in the repetition you see there's definitely you know there's contact and there's there's contact. It's always gonna be supposed to be a pek, right, based on the on the rules. Right, if you're an attacker and you have the ball, I'm always looking for contact in the box and a chance to go down to get a penalty kick is why you get into the box. And so especially if I'm making

my way towards goal. Yeah, if I'm going away from goal, it's a little bit more difficult, but I'm slicing at the goal I would, I would have I would have to be certain that I have one hundred percent advantage to get the cross off for me not to go down if I feel a leg or a push. If Cody Baker is in his own box, you know, going towards the middle of the field, around the same kind of cornered element, and he has two hands on his back and goes down,

that's a foul. One hundred times out of one hundred times. Actually think that's a good point. Yeah, So if Cody's in his own box and he feels pressure from an attacker and he pushes him, how many times did we see that tonight on Christian roll Don The slightest little touch on Pedro at the end of the game and it's and it's a foul. So yeah, we could be on here until a thirty week county call. We can do the show and still be done. Well, let's take a break.

We'll come back and look ahead to what's next for the Sounders. It's a match that resumes in the sixth minute. You're listening to the home of Sounders FCS Sports Radio nine fifty KJR wrapping up the postmatch shown following a Sounders two to one last tonight in the Nation's capital to DC United. Let's take a look

ahead at what's next for your Sounders. It's going to be a man on Tuesday. That will resume in the sixth minute. This is a match from March ninth in Philadelphia that was rained out against the Union, so that match will resume coming up at four thirty right here Sports Radio nine to fifty am. This coming Tuesday, we'll have a provident Swedish re pre match choke starting

at four pm. You know, so watch the match on MS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen in Spanish language on l Ray thirteen sixty. But we'll have it at four pm and preview with the kind of a resumed match that weirdly, let's get to the Delta starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday. We already know the lineup is Rolls on the field, Jordan's on the field, Christian's on the field, Leo Cheu, Obed Vargas, Josh Attencio, Alex Schol, Don Yamar Gomez, Androti was on the

bench. He'll slide in for Javier ari Yaga who is traded, Jackson Reagan and then I knew who's your left back, and Andrew Thomas is your goalkeeper. There's the starting lineup, so Brad, it will be a good match with a very very good line up on the field for Brian Schmenzer. Yeah, look, it's one that the Sounders hopefully will get a result because it's a Philly Union lineup that I think is a little bit mixed because they were

anticipating the Champions Cup whatever it's called now Champions League coming up. So it's an opportunity for the Sounders to get a result against a team that's only lost now two games since the start of the twenty twenty three season at home, so only one game last year they lost, and they just lost tonight against Rail Salt Lake. So you better bet that the Sounders will be watching what

Rail Salt Lake did well tonight and then hope for a quick turnaround. But this is not a team that loses at home often right dates back probably to twenty twenty two also, so it's a very good team at home. It's a good squad. Jim Curtins seams since twenty eighteen, has had that team turned around completely since he took over. They've made runs deep into the playoffs

in the last couple of years and it's a team to be feared. But at the same time, the Sounders showed with ten men tonight in the second half that they can do good stuff away from home and actually play and hopefully that carries over into that match with some fresh legs against Philly on Tuesday night. Yeah, they need to take that attitude and that soccer from the second forty five minutes we saw tonight. It's gonna be a tough game. Obviously,

Philadelphia is one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Besides losing tonight, they're they're really really solid, and they have they have depth to right and they show it and that's why. That's why in playing international competitions and they've been also one of the best teams in MLS. But I think it's also to me Seattle thunders that they really need to at least get a point out of this game, like there's there's no no way to get another

loss, because it's to me, it's already getting to that point. And we're talking about this during the pregame show that we didn't know if it's too late to sound the alarm. But I think after tonight's lost, then you know we're closer to like we really the Sounders really need to wake up, otherwise there's gonna there's gonna be a lot of even though it's a long season, the damage has already been done, right, and it's gonna be really

hard to climb up. But I think I Philly again, it's a team that's vulnerable, even though rather to your point that they're really good at home, but you know they should tonight that they're not you know, invincibles, right, so they can lose. And to Diego's point, I think the Sounders now have to stop thinking about winning games and just winning halves of soccer

games. Right, Take what you did tonight in the second half, scratch the first half and carry that on to the next match and try to string together three, four, five, six, seven, eight consecutive forty five minute halves and just focus on winning that half. That forty five minutes and plus whatever it's gonna be nine minutes to stop, which time on the end of a so fifty five minutes of a first half. Right, So I

think that's the way that the attitude has to come. Okay, let's carry this second half in the effort the way that we played, and then let's just focus on the first forty five in Philadelphia and try to get a result. Just in that half, and then we'll worry about the second half when we regroup at halftime and let Schmidz and the guys talk about tactic. Then wake up one and a half. I can't improve on any of those points.

Great stuff out of everybody tonight, A great call from Danny Jackson, Steve Zachawani, A Kiley Dunning our broadcast director here, Mitchell Bli our board op. Great thank you both, Diego audio A.
