Welcome to the Sounders FC pre match show presented by Providence Swedish. Tonight, your Seattle Sounders FC face DC United. The Providence Swedish Premat show starts now well eight games into the season and you're Seattle Sounders. They're having a little bit of a tough COVID so far, but we all hope that changes tonight as the Rave Green begin a two match East Coast road trip tonight down in the Nation's Capital against DC United and then Tuesday in Philadelphia against the Union.
But for tonight, welcome in to the Sounders FC Premat Show, presented by Provident Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. Jackson Feltz here alongside the Captain Brad Evans, and also our Apple TV and a KJR broadcaster Diego AUDIOA. The three of us will be counting you down to kickoff for the next half hour, and then Danny Jackson will have the call for Sounders and DC
United coming up from Audi Field. They're in our nation's capital. You know, we all want, I think Brad to move on from Vancouver and what happened last week the two nothing loss. But the question is how can the guys move forward. How can the guys move on and let what happened last week act as a fuel to a fire to go kind of start turning things around and get a result tonight. Yeah, well, I think it's a case of just putting that one in the past and really starting over. And
you're gonna see it when we announce this lineup. It's a mixed bag tonight. Sometimes things have to change, but also we'll touch on Schmeetz's points of why it has to change so early in this road swing. But it's a group of guys that have to be motivated tonight. And to be honest, it's a DC team that even this squad that's going to be out there tonight can get a result against. We've seen teams in the past go to Austin FC and get a result. We've seen mixed teams middle of the week go
and get a result away from home. So it's nothing new for the Sounders. But like you said, we'd like to erase now six losses from our memory, but those start to stack up and then it gets into your head and halftime of that game, it's woe is me? Oh no, it's happening again. So the Sounders are going to be under the gun tonight, but it's about rallying the troops right now and really leaving everything out there. And it's a group of guys that are going to play within themselves, sprinkled
in with a bunch of veterans out there on the field. Yeah, it's definitely a tough match and brought to your point, it's one of those games that they need to win this united. They haven't had a great start either, if you comparag to last season they finished second in Eastern Conference and they have basically the same group of guys, so they're also struggling, right, So I think it's a really good opportunity for the Saunders after Vancouver to get
that win. Get especially it's a quick turnaround. Then you have, you know, two days basically three days later the game against Philure, Right, so I think that now's the time and even Branch matter what he was saying, there needs to be some change up on some a spark otherwise you cannot be complacent anymore. Right, you can allow a few losses, but after
the results, it's the worst start ever for the Seattle Sounders franchise. So I think something is change, and especially looking at the group of guys, he's a team that it's really competing to win an MLS Cup. So it's hard to see it here, but I think there's a lot of upside hopefully moving forward. And you know, we talked about a lot of changes. There are a lot of changes at least in today's starting lineup. Brad youtizdat. So let's go out to the Delta, starting eleven for Brian Schmunter squad
today. So tonight you got Stephen Frying goal. Christian roll Don is going to be your right back. Maybe he's making the transition that I did at that age back to that right back position. Who knows. You got Andrade as a center back. And then Jonathan Bell's first first game and I like to touch on him afterwards. He's actually going to be a center back today with most of his time in New England spent at left back. Cody Baker
is going to come in at left back. Tenso JP in the middle, and then the three hopefully runners there and Jordan Morris, Rusnak and Leo Chew back in the lineup, and then Musofski up top. And this week, serendipitously, I took the head coach of my high school team and former sounder Craig Tomlinson. You know, he somehow got connected with Jonathan Bell this week. So early this week they sat down, went out to dinner, and this was not on anyone's radar. This change was the last minute change.
We'll talk about with Nathan's kind of injury on Friday. So it's weird how you have these conversations throughout the week, You're not getting the playing time you want, you haven't seen any field time, and then all of a sudden, you're a starter away from home in DC hoping to make a difference. Yeah, a huge there with Jonathan Bell coming in. We'll talk all about
that and all those changes really quick. To note, your bench includes Andrew Thomas, Jacob Castro, Danny Lava, Obed Vargas, Dylan TeVeS, Paul Rothrock, and rawl Ruy Diaz. It is one short and important to note defender Knew, who is unavailable for tonight's match due to an internal disciplinary matter. We will talk about what Seattle has on the field coming up in a little bit, but first, diego, what is DC United putting out there
tonight? Is the star from the Premier League in there at forward. Yes, does he have to be, but yeah he's starting with SoDC United with a formation for one three to two Alex Bono goalkeeping. Then you have this line of four with Aron Nerera, Chris McVeigh, Bartlett and Christan Dajome. Mike Peltola playing also a bit four in the center myth and then you have gril Pidani's number ten stro out on the right, click on the left,
and then you have Christian Bentike on top with Muriel. So it's it's it's a yeah to your point, Christian, and take is there is a handful and yeah, it's gonna be one of those challenges for the defenders. Right. We'll talk more about ben Seka in a little bit and the challenges he provides, the challenges he gives Seattle today, but before we break down Seattle's line up really quickly. The Providence Swedish team health report, Brad mentioned Nathan's
injury. He did suffer a late and week training hip injury, so Nathan was questionable. He is out read Baker Whiting was questionable with a weft hamstring injury as well. Out also includes Pedro de La Vega. Brian Schmitzer said earlier this week that we're looking at at least four weeks for Pedro del la Vega, So hopefully by this moment here Saturday, we're looking at least three weeks. You know. Just unfortunately there for Pedro de la Vega, the
new hamstring injury. And then also out is Broadilio Rodriguez with a hamstring and I'll say that in terms of the injuries, today's health report is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders. I've see also not injuries. Jackson Reagan and Alex Rodan are out, both serving their suspensions from the red cards against Vancouver. But let's get back to the Sounders and what's on the
field. So, Brad, we talked about Jonathan Bell coming in here, and obviously you know a guy like Jonathan Bell coming in as you know, what was just a week ago your fourth string center back behind Javier Ariyaga. He's now traded to New England. And then Nathan really unfortunate timing for the injury. He steps into big shoes and then Yamar right next to him, both of them together Benzeke facing a guy like him that's gonna be a task
tonight. Yeah. Well, look, Schmetz talked about it, where they're gonna push a tensio in the back, play five in the back. But he's decided to go still with this four two three one, And they put a lot of trust in in Jonathan Bell tonight. Look, he's physically gifted. Every time you walk by him, he's built like an absolute beast.
So I don't think physically is gonna be a problem. It's just mentally, when you don't play a number of games right, you're not even considered a center back on the team, because, like you said, we had four center backs as of you know, Monday, and then all of a sudden,
we have one. Yeah, and now you're filling in a guy who has played a little bit of center back, but not much right, And as players, we like to get rhythm, we like to you know, maybe come into a game late and get our shoes you know, kind of warm in that regard, and he's not gonna have that opportunity. So on the flip side of that, sometimes it's best to just get in there and and and try to make a difference. He said he's told his players the
messaging is played simple. We're gonna play in behind for twenty minutes, right, don't. I don't want you guys to be under any sort of pressure away from home, But that is a difficult task and and and you know that that's gonna be a great opportunity for him though, right, I think when you haven't played that much, which you're traveling with the team, he's
kind of on the outskirts. I'm not sure how involved he is with guys, but this is his opportunity to kind of put his name out there and let Sounders fans know and let the coaches know, like, I'm a good player. There's a reason why I'm in this league. Yeah per cent. Then I think on the other side, you have Christian Benteki and DC United.
They're gonna try to take advantage to try to at least tell the experienced player, Okay, go against you know, Jonathan Bell and try to win those balls, knowing Beneke how dominant he is in the league right in winning
not only heathers but also second balls and passing. But I think to your point, Brad, it's it's one of those opportunities you don't get many opportunities as a player, and this is a big shot for Jonathan and also especially play against one of the best nines that we have in MLS, right, so you have to step up and bring your a game. Yeah, I think you know, Beneke six goals on the season already. We'd love to have that on our side of things, and so the Sounders have to be
really careful. But this is a striker who, yeah, he scored buckets a goal goals right now for DC since he's come in, But he's done that his whole career. He scores a goal every you know, game, game and a half. So it's not like this is a new thing for ben Take to be scoring every other game. He's done it in the Premier League on multiple teams. He's done it wherever he's played. So it's a top quality striker who's feeling himself right now. And when you watch the goals
that he scores, they're pretty well all inside the six. He's a pure poacher and that's where you just have to be switched on every time because he'll fade to that back post and he'll use one of his own players as kind of dummy in between him and the center back and really rise up and and you know, finish. From any angle, it seems like things are just
finding the back of the net for him. So it's going to be a difficult task, one that I would not be looking forward to because I hate him playing against Fernando Audi and he's about the same size and he would just buldoze me. So those two center backs a bit stronger, a bit more athletic than I was. So I'm looking forward to the challenge for these guys. I think Sounder fans hated watching you having to face Fano Audio just as
much as you hated facing him. I feel it never fun to watch him pull him down on top of me and give up a penalty at least once a game. Well, you know, you mentioned the opportunity for Jonathan Bell, also opportunity for Cody Baker, because you know a lot of today it's a very weird situation where we kind of have an Eyeon Tonight, but also the Ion Tonight is factored in by the Ion Tuesday, which is Philadelphia on the road, the kind of rescheduled it got postponed in the sixth minute.
That game must feature certain players that the players who played in that game must actually resume play there in the sixth minute come Tuesday. And that group includes Jordan Morris who's in tonight, Leo Chu who's in tonight, Christian Roldan who's in tonight at right back, Josh Attencio in tonight, Yamar in tonight.
Plus it includes Alex who's serving suspension, o Bet who's on the bench, Roalridiaz on the bench, Knew who who if you're just joining us, will quickly tell you again Knew who is unavailable for tonight's match due to an internal
disciplinary matter. And then in addition to who has to play, it's Andrew Thomas so Stephen Fry in goal obviously, but Cody Baker gets the run today and Brad, this is kay and Cody Baker, who we have seen kind of come on the scene, a massive bright spot so far in the early part of twenty twenty four, and another chance for the kid to step up
and show good stuff on film. Look, if Cody has a good game tonight and is one of the top players in this match defensively but also offensively, I think the coaches are gonna have a really hard time keeping him off the pitch. I know certain things have to happen on Tuesday night. But I think the coaches are really going to have to sit down in that room next week and make a decision of how they're going to move forward. Because we get no offense from the left right, and that's how it's designed.
Because Alex likes to get forward, we shift to three in the back and allow him to play. But what happens in a world when the Sounders do have a left back that can't get forward and swinging balls and combine and do the work up front and also defend right, what does that look like? I don't think the Sounders have had that since you know Lear Dom, Yeah, Lear Tom and Brad Smith right, that was probably the last time that
we've really seen two outside backs that love to get forward. And those are some of the Sounders' best years is when our outside backs got forward and got involved in the attack. So I think relying too much on Chew to provide this will take some pressure off him. Hopefully if Cody can find his pockets and get him behind and make a difference like Reid Baker Whiting did last year.
And this is going to be a tough decision for the coaches moving forward if he has a good game tonight, do you Before we take a break, let's talk about Danny Missovski up top. It's not Roll, it is Missovski, and he's a guy who in MS time we've seen a massive goals plus assists per ninety minutes number out of him. He's statistically a very productive striker. What can he give the Sounders tonight from the top, Yeah,
I mean that's why he's getting the opportunity tonight. And I think Danny Missoski said so one of those we're talking about the importance of this game to me also for him in particular, has to be the game this season in Sounders, right, So, I think he needs to show that quality and especially have the He's going to have opportunities, right. DC United is a team
that lets you play a bit. They have that intensity of trying to pressure on U, but they're gonna leave some pockets where I think Danny Massoski needs to take advantage of. Well, we're about twenty seven minutes away from kick at Audyfield in Washington, DC. Today's Coundown and Kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the Entertainment Capital of the Northwest. Seattle Sounder is in our nation's capital of hes DC, United tonight and it's time for today's Sharp Vision Upon It ALEC taking a look at DC United. Today's uponent alec presented by Sharp Vision, Modern lasc and Lenz, the official Lasik provider of Sounders FC Jackson, Feltz, Brad Evans Diego Audio here. Count you down to kick off four the next twenty five minutes or so. Well. DC United. They've had a better start to the season than
Seattle, but not much better. Two three and four, eleventh place in the Eastern Conference. They're coming off back to back losses to Orlando City and New York City FC twelve goals scored, that's three more than Seattle and fourteen conceited, that's five more than Seattle. But we know, Brad that they have a star in Christian Benteke, and he is a big six to three striker Belgian national team so many years in the EPL of Aston Villa, Liverpool,
Crystal Palace. This is somebody that we talked about in the first segment. They're going to have a handful with, but not only him. DC's got an overall good roster that Seattle's got to figure out tonight. Look, yes, he's the centerpiece, but at the end of the day, someone is providing that service to him. So you don't get goals just by yourself. He can create something out of nothing, but that's not how Beneke likes
to play. He's not an a coasta from Cincinnati who's gonna pick up the ball at midfield and dribble guys and create this pure magic and school score the goal of the Euro though last year. I think he hit that bicycle that was pretty closer early this year. So yes, can he create something on of nothing, Yes he can, but he's more of that. He's the prototypical target striker, and Rooney's the guy that brought him in at the end of the day, right, and then Rooney has to move on and do
his thing. But it's ben Teke that's gonna provide that veteran presence. And even when he doesn't seemed involved in the game, he's doing something to catch you off guard. Right. He's such a smart striker. He's not Duncan McGuire from Orlando, who's really good striker. He's not Brian White who's purely physical. He plays both sides. He plays the mind game, but he also plays the good. The way that soccer should be played is how ben
Teke plays a striker. Of that size, right, And there's a reason why we talked about a Belgian national team scoring buckets of goals and then he's done it everywhere from the three teams in the EPL and now with DC United. So it's a guy that the Sounders have to be aware of. But Bell and Jemar can't be so focused on and that's what he wants. He wants two center backs to come and apply pressure so that it opens space for
someone else because DC still has quality players. This is still Major League, okay, right, Sounders go down to DC and and and they have to be aware of not just spent take a but what he provides overall in the field. Agreed. And one other player I would like to highlight is Gabriel
Pirani, the twenty two year old Brazilian from South Paulo. He's a playmaker, right, I'm talking to to your point, bra Bent Teke, and it needs to feed you know, those balls and those opportunities, and I think every pianny in that sense that's going to be a challenge in the midfield and making sure to minimize the timing of the ball that he has and also the spaces because this young kid, well, this youngster with with space, he can be dangerous, so I think have to be careful with him.
And also in the right and left backs as well. They know if they can go forward as well, they could be dangerous. So I think that's gonna be a good challenge for Christian playing in the back, and also Courdy Baker. As we were saying how important it is for a Cody Baker to get a good game tonight, but I think what a luxury it is to talk about other teams out there knowing that when they get you know, ten to fifteen yards into the opponent's half, that they're looking to serve the ball
in the box right, something that the Sounders don't do. We look for the target. What's it called prime assist zone. Yep, every single time we go forward. Teams know that's what we're trying to do. That's how they train for five days leading up. We have to remember every team is watching every team every single week, and there's a whole staff that's watching the
Sounders games and looking at where goals are coming from. So if you can negate that, maybe now Danny Massovski provides a little bit something different that you know, the goal that he scored on the back post with a nice header. Maybe you see that a little bit more that ball come from Cody Baker Baker, and so yeah, maybe maybe the Sounders are able to mix it up a little bit with the personnel tonight. And also like DC starts serving
in balls from wide areas, Yeah, absolutely so. And Aaron Herrera speaking of balls and from white areas so good with RSL for so many years. So he's a weapon. I also quickly wanted to point out their head coach, Troy Lasain. He was a head coach at New Mexico United and then he got the job who was an assist with New York Red Bulls. Then he got the interim job with the Red Bulls last year, did really quite well with the Red Bulls, and yet they still let him go a little
bit of a strange situation. It kind of thought for sure he would be rehired, but they let him go and DC United picked him up. He kind of has that high press system, you know, turnover creating style. You'd into the big metrics and all the in depth statistics for Major League Soccer that say that DC's pressing system is one of the most successful in the League, so they have a very good press. They'll try to create turnovers for
the Sounders deep in their ends. So we'll see how that shakes out tonight. But turning our attention back to the Seattle Sounders, let's get to our Western Washington Honda Dealers players to watch and find out who will drive good today. Rad, who do you have driving a good performance today for the Sounders. Well, I'm hoping Jonathan Bell. This is our first time seeing him in a Sounders uniform in an MLS game, and he has to he has
to have a good game tonight. Right away from home. I can't remember, you know, my first game definitely wasn't away from what was always at home. It was very you know, comfortable, it was it was a little bit easy at the support of the crowd. Now you're going into a difficult situation. But it's a guy who was in the Eastern Conference, so he knows d C right. He's played against him many times, so he
knows what it's like to play in DC. He shouldn't be fearful. He should be strong, he should be powerful, he should be vocal, he should play his game. So that's my guy. Just because we haven't seen him play. I am hoping that he has a fantastic match, and if he does against Beneke, I think the Sounders at least grind out, you know, a tie in in DC, that's a good pick. I'm gonna
go with one of our usual suspects, and that's Christian role. Then right back rolled on especially yeah, playing right back, and I think he's just how important being one of the leaders of the team and stepping up always and
playing that position. Even branch Metza was mentioning, you know today too, I was like, he needs to defend first, right before do his job first in terms of he doesn't have a lot of work in the back, but also once the Sounders tried to play forward, then always we know Christian how much he can do. So I'm confident that Christian is gonna have a really solid game tonight. I I get I think that's true. I think Christian is going to play this position tonight and he's gonna play really well.
And the coaches are going to be like, how do we have two brothers that play right back really really good? And it's gonna be another tough decision because Christian is so cerebral. He just knows. He just knows the game from a top level right when most of us look at the plane, right when we're watching on the field, it's almost like he plays the game like he's looking at from a bird's eye view. He just knows space so well. So to have a player like that that is versatile, he'll have no
problem tonight. And I think you'll see a great showing from Christian. I love that. My player to watch is gonna be game Argomes Andrade. You're listen. You're you're facing a six to three striker. You're gonna be up against him on set pieces over and over again all day. You gotta win those battles. You can't let Christian get that spot because if he does, the ball may very well end up in the back of the net. So so we just went with three defenders. Have we given up on our ability
to put the ball on the back of the net. Well, listen, defend and I think you know it's it's the prototypical you're playing away from home, get it results And if you can tell me right now, the Sounders come away with a point in this match, I personally just for me. We'll see how the match plays out over ninety minutes. But if you're to tell me right now, I can give you a point. I'm taking a point that it's one of those that's the lineup and the run that the Sounders
have been on recently. It's a good show. We'll see what happens, but that's who we think will drive a good performance today. Four year Sounders, and now is the time to drive a Honda. Don't wait. Stop by your local Western Washington Honda dealer today and drive good. One of the questions I asked Jordan is can you use the experience for what happened in twenty sixteen or the club was so far down in the table, a bad run of form and then come back and obviously go in an MLS Cup and Brad
conveniently on that team as well. So Brad, you know, apply that situation from twenty sixteen to this, you know, how can you take that what happened with that group, and how can this group take that experience, you know, the guys who were there and do the same sort of thing. Yeah, I'm not sure exactly, because when you are playing your back against the wall and it's late August, that's a much different feel than being here in April and kind of trying to simulate that same feeling. Right,
we have so much season to play. There's less than a third of the season is gone, so there's still time to make up ground and it starts tonight. I don't think you can take much other than saying we can equate almost every season of the Sounders to having some sort of lull, whether that's in the beginning, whether that's in the middle, or it's towards the end. And you would almost always, if you ask the guys, you'd rather
have it now than in the middle or the end of the season. And what the Sounders did well in twenty sixteen, Yeah, there were changes, but it felt like you were playing for your contract and there was nothing that the Sounders had to lose, and so you just threw everything against the wall and tried to get a result every single game. Right now, I think there's still a little bit to be had for the Sounders to still play good soccer, but also now it is time to turn on with some urgency.
So I don't know if there's too much you can take away from it other than the feeling of we're staring up at everyone else in the league. Well, well, let's talk about if that urgency is out there tonight and we'll get to our keys the match as well as the history with DC United.
We're about eight minutes away from kick at Outyfield in Washington, d C. You're listening to the home of Sounders, FC Seattle's sports radio nine fifty KJR, just about five minutes away from Kick Sounders at d C United. Before we get there, tell you about the history between these two teams. We faced off fourteen times in MLS history. Seattle has nine wins to d c's three, just two draws in the series. In DC Seattle
has been great four wins, two losses in one draw. Most recently, these teams faced off in twenty nineteen, which was a d C two nothing win. Always get to some keys to the match, Brad, First, what are you looking for? Here tonight. I'm looking for a fast start from the Sounders. I think Schmid said in Brigad We're not messing around with the ball in the back. It's gonna go forward. We're gonna look to get in behind and if you apply pressure to DC, they're gonna give you
something. Right, it's not a top team in this league right now. The other's still trying to find their form. So it's it's an opportunity for this sound Us, for these new guys that are in the lineup to stake their claim. This is Mussowski's first start. We've often seen him come off the bench and we're asking questions, does he really know his role? Well, now you've got an opportunity to play potentially hopefully ninety minutes and get some
rhythm to your game and show why you were brought here. He liked them to play simple, be solid, defestively to your point, Brad, and also I want to see taking them those opportunities, opportunities because they're gonna have some chances and also having more control on the midfield with Joel a polo back. I think it's also only the second starting the season right so to me, it's having that balance back and at the end of the day, play
simple to get a good result. I mean, you're facing a tremendous striker in Christian Benteke, and and for the Sounder, he's six goals on the year, obviously storied, you know, career in the English Premier League. So it'll be a big day for Jonathan Bell he starts. I'm sure Danny will give you the delta starting eleven here coming up after the break, but it will be a big ten for your Sounders as they begin this two game
road swing. It's tonight in DC and then it's Tuesday in Philadelphia, so we will see what Seattle can start this road trip like here tonight, the three of us lead back for the halftime show, but we'll hand things off to Danny Jackson and Steve Zachwani. They will have the first minute through forty five for Sounders DC United. We will hope the Sounders get off to a good start and we will hope that we will halftime show will be a positive

Sounders FC soccer is brought to you by Providence Swedish, official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. Now time for Sounders FC soccer. Good evening everyone, Welcome to Audy Field in Washington, d C. Where your Sounders Faith DC United of the Eastern Conference. It's been a tricky season so far under new head coach Troy Lassain. After winning three to one in the opening game off the back of a Benteke hatrick, has been up and down since and
last week hit somewhat of a new low. Riddled with injuries and suspensions, they could only roster three outfield players on the bench in their two NAERL loss to New York City FC. The DC Faithful arcspecting much better from their team as players start to return to those lineups. For the Sounders, the gloomy weather that enveloped the Pacific Northwest this week is representative of the current mood in the team, but green shoots appeared against Montreal and Dallas. Rough outing against
Cascady arrival Vancouver last week was sobering. While the reality of the situation is recognized by the players, it's not all doom and gloom. The Sounders continue to rosster one of the most talented squads in MLS and they are a motivated bunch. They just need the engine to raw tonight at Audi Field. My name is Danny Jackson, alongside former Sounders winger Steve zach Quarany for the call tonight. Before we get to Steve, let's get the Delta starting eleven for
your Sounders. Many changes for Brian Schmitz as we prepare for a Tuesday night game against the Philadelphia Union. Sepan Fryan gall about fourth, Christian rolled on on the right Yama, Jonathan Bell steps in on that left center back position. Cody Baker on the left hand side, Jao Paolo alongside Josh in the middle of the park, Jordan Morris switches from the left side to the right side, Albert Roznak in the ten leo two on the left, and Danny
Mussovski gets his first start up front for DC United. It's Bonowing gol A back forth, Perrera, McVeigh, Bartler, Dahomey and midfield four of Pelte La Stroud click and Pirani and Beneke and Morrell upfront as the game gets going here at Audi Field, of course, location of the MLS All Star Game last year between the MLS All Stars and Arsal where Arsenal came out solid five no winners, and Steve, we're gonna get your thoughts in terms of the
team's been down. The team's had a good week of practice by all accounts. But it's about results tonight. No, it's about results and how echo what Brad said there. It has to be a fast start. You got anything short of a fast inspired, desired star forgetting a good football for a second, just compete to try and turn your season around. Long throw comes
in first, headed by Jonathan Bell. Good solid play by the center back comes in of course, as Jackson and the team mentioned, Nathan picked up an injury late in the week changed things up very reminiscent of Albert Rouzneck in that first game against LAFC when he picks up an injury the day before the game, had to change up things in that starting lineup. And of course Javy Oriaga leaving the Sounders in a trade at the beginning of the week.
So I think Brad mentioned we started with four center backs on Monday, ended up with one at the end of the week, and Jonathan Bell steps in to play alongside Yamar Sounders in their anniversary kit, green shirts, blue pinstripes,
light blue shorts and white socks. They're attacking the goal to our left, and then DC unighted all in black are attacking the goal to our right, all up, headed up in the air by jow Polo cushion, headed back by the DC back line, McVeigh and Bartler playing in the middle of the park. But sieve it's about getting a decent start, but making sure it's about no mistakes, clear your lines where needed. Obviously, the Sounders were punished last week by silly mistakes in the back line. Yeah, in
some ways the Sounders threw that game away. If you look at just the mistakes, the kind of gifted the white Caps a couple of goals, and it sounds have been very good defensively, you know, as much as they've had offensive struggles, which we can talk about only giving up nine goals in eight games about a goal of game that is a pretty good average over the course of a season. Last season was the same too, So defensively the team has been very good, but just small errors creeping into the game at
times give gift and opponent goals. That sort of thing, especially in the road, you can't afford to do that. Whatever DC United get, you want to make sure they go out there and earn it. And see we were talking about just before we came on a seven changes whether it's personnel or position tonight, so lots of changes. Still a ton of experience on the
field. He's got most of these what you call these first eleven players on the field there mostly you know, obviously on the guy who's been really good this year offensively is Rude Diaz, so at some point you may see him, but you know, Jordan Morris is there, Christian Rodin's there, albeit he drops back a line out of necessity, and I think for Padak Musovski, for example, sometimes just saying, you know, come into a game, we're chasing a game twenty minutes to goal, fifteen minutes to goal,
that can be a hard role. Now you get a chance from the start, just settle in sure what you can do, because at this point for the Sounders, all of that guarantee to play, it's going out the window. It's going to be who who's showing week and week out they deserve to play. That's the way branchmiths any stuff have to approach it. And if
I'm Musoski, that's what's in my mind. I'm going to just have a really good game state might claim and do all I can Bosas mentioned, Musovski has been around the league lafc RSL's got nine goals last year before he came into the Sounders squad. Of course, the opportunity is now available to Mussovsky.
He's had a started in the middle of preseason, joined the team in mar beeya good pick up by the Sounders go his first goal against San Jose if he was the first open goal from open play for the Sounders when he got that tine goal to make it too too and of course the Sounders unfortunately gave up that winning all for San Jose within seconds of the restarts. The ball goes down the line towards the end like Piranhi cuts it back top of
the box, cleared well by Atensi. It was dropping back to help his back line, found Stroud on the right hand side, clips up deflection. That's the fourth headed from Jonathan Bell that he is one already, good solid play, good introductions so far for Jonathan Bell. So refree just puts the whistle to his mouth, pulls the game back. Yellow card. Look,
it's a late challenge on from Dahomey. We've seen some interesting referee calls last week and of course just an early yellow card now for the DC United left back Steve very early out of card. Yes, I said, you kind of tried to wonder, how would referee was that the home you know? Okay it was McVeigh got the yellow card. That would have been, Yeah, that would have been if I was the homie there. But that that's that's a fouls yellow card, just stopping saw some getting behind you deliberate note
that's the first minute nineteth minute. It's just standard yellow car so you didn't get a pretty much choice there. And for the sound is now you have a play in DC's back line with a yellow card, put a lot of pressure on him. It's a lot of pressure inside the first five minutes McVeigh.
That yellow card puts them under pressure. When you've got a play like Mussovski who can get around it, cause problems and of course Rudiaz we'll get some time tonight per Brian Schmitze rested in preparation for the game on Tuesday, which he will start interesting ruling. Brian Schmetzer was questioning us in our production call. He doesn't recall anytime the Sounders in our history has had a situation
like this. We've had games who have been canceled just before kickoff. I think Colorado where whether it came upon Denver area so quickly game was canceled, but typically try and get that replay done the next day. In the case of Philadelphia were on the road going to Mexico to play in CCL, so wasn't an option for the Sounders. Now they go back on Tuesday night and
pick up that game, has it? Ryan Side to Stroud overlapping run by Herrera back to click, twenty five yards from Gold just gets clipped foul by Rosnick just outside the box. Say foul by Rosnick from an experienced player. Here's DC United a chance for the dead ball. Yeah, you're never gonna win the ball like that for us night. That's one of those were you just got to move your feet, try as much as you can to get in front of the attacker. If you can't do that, you don't stick
a leg out and give him a reason to go out. Listen, is it a bit soft? Does he go down a bit easy? Yes, but there was contact and every referee's going to give that. And now DC United with a set piece in a very very dangerous situation. Who well matteas clicked looking over it, there's blonde hair time of course at Leeds United, my team, we're still licking our wounds after Yes, there's four ner loss of QPR. I didn't want to ask, No, it's painful or comes
in whipped in just wide? Good chance by Herrera of a free kick, took a touch to click and then whipped it around towards that near post. Why goalkick? Sounders remains nil nil here at Audi Field in the seventh minute, nine fifty Am and Steve, these are the things away from home. It's about restricting mistakes, silly giveaways, silly mistakes in the back line for free kicks and making them earn it versus giving them some gifts. Absolutely,
and that was always sort of the mindset in this league especially. It's so tough to pick up things away from home, and it's only getting harder and harder. But what you can do is limit your own erarors, limit what you give your opponent. It's an if under day the home team is just that good and they just tell you apart is what it is. But for the sounds, you can't afford that. Right now, these we are absolutely in must win territory. We just are. It's not been a great start
of the season. Or goes into the channel that man Beentechi challenged by both Jonathan Bell Cody Baker on that left hand side, drops it back to the middle of the park to Pelteler. He's going to sit in front of that back four shifts it across the McVeigh to Bartluke. Came in the off season with Stroud from Saint Louis finds Herrera on that Ryan side just pinched in from
his right back spot. Challenge well by Leo Chew back in the lineup tonight or goes back to Bono Tyler Miller, of course, ex Sounders goalkeeper on the bench, been injured the first part of this season. Bono's done reasonably well. Lussayn coming in with a much more energetic type of play. Talking to the Johnson they play by play for DC today, he said, fans
are enjoying the way that DC play. I need to find some health, get their starting eleven on the field, and as we said, it's very reminiscent of what the Sounders need right now is just find a way to get a result, get some players back on the field. Yeah, I will see. One of the things in US opening eight to nine minutes sort of
sound is is he's not been able to string together two three passes. And if you give the ball away every first or second pass, you're defending the whole time and it can really turn into a long afternoon having to defend that much straight top of the box, flicks it towards click right corner of the box, rolls it towards the airline. Torrare whips it in towards that peek
spot drops the bentech the top of the box. Peltzer in support. It's a little pressure from Yemar and takes able to pull away twice to find Stroud clatter into the back is McVeigh. That's the second challenge. He's gotta be careful on a yellow card. Musoski just smiling at the referee, not asking for the yellow card, just a gentle reminder. Yeah, maybe it makes no sense there, can I you back on the referee radar. The best Missassa can do is flick the ball on to no One. He was the
highest player forward. But you've built a sounders out and can the sound is now get some sort of position going On the right hand side, is Jordan Morris whips it across towards that front post, goes over the end line, asking for the corner kick. Incensed by the refereeing decision. It's gonna be a goal kick per the referee. But Jordan Morris shifting from that left hand side to the right hand side. Steve and I know Jordan's talked about just
sometimes just a change of position, even freshness. We've seen him playing that right hand side. He is right footed. Of course, it gives a chance now to play both speed on the left and the right with Leo chub Yeah, I mean historically he hasn't liked the right. He does prefer if he has to be on the wing on the left shield to cut inside and have the option also going outside. But I think for today he just sympathies his game. You know, the game's going to be in front of him
as much as possible. He can be a bit more direct, and him and Christian rodonnobviously have a very good off the field friendship and a good understanding underfield as well, And so I think for Jordan just to kind of get himself kickstarted and going, it could be a good change. Good cover by Christian Waldanza flick towards CD Stroud finds rosneck in the middle of the park in vern passer thinks a Rosna, but he managed to collect it given away by
the Sounders. Here come DC with Dahome, a former Vancouver white Caps player playing that left back spot. We've seen him play up front this season, We've seen him play left midfield, so now he's going to play left back Borgan to click to that man Dahomey with his right foot ricochets off. Yamar goes over the top of Fry's crossbar for a corner kick for DC and I to remain nil nil here without off. It's the exact start DC unit would
have wanted. You know, the pressure in the Sounders haven't yet really created any sort of golden ghost gorone opportunities, but you've sensed that pressure continuing to build, continuing to build, forcing a sound is backing deep into the only eighteen yard box, and the sound is right now very disconnected. The backland is very deep. He's very isolated, and it's been very hard to get
any sort of possession going and been defended for a long time. Cornerkick for DC seventy five percent possessions so far this first eleven minutes of the game. The boy gets whipped in towards Cef and Fry inside the sex easily collected by the Sounders captain and goalkeeper decked out and all yellow. Tonight it's pressured by
Bentechi, captain for DC United. Certainly feels I know. Jackson and Brad Diego talked about Bentechi at length but it certainly feels like it's got a whole new freshness of life coming in. It was a struggle for him at Palace towards the back end of his Premier League career, came in here and he's remarkably well last year and of course hit the ground running with the hatchrick in
the first game. Yeah, he's a player with a lot of quality and he can do a lot because he can prove his back to goal like Northern, the size is just unbelievable, but he also has really good feet and better than you think at times. And in the box of course, in the air all comes in just straight out, a little rocochet off Cody Baker pounces right in front of Fry, collected well by the Sounders goalkeeper. As you mentioned, Steve, the Sounds just need to get a foothold in the
game. They've absorbed from this early pressure, but it's about developing some possession and Brian's mentioned this week to the press is that hey, they're not going to change the way they play. They like to maintain control of the ball. So far it's been dominated by DC. As JP has it middle of the part, little chance to turn, he goes back towards Yema. It's
where the Sounders got in trouble last week. Gmo just needs the clearest lines knock it down as he gets pushed into the corner, misplays that clearance finds the foot of Peltzer forty yards from goal again, lessons learned from last week.
The Sounders, with these experienced players need to find a way to get themselves out of danger as they sort of play out the back again with Christian rolled on back to J towards that end line, cuts it past Morrel, skips it from center to this near side the left to Cody Baker getting his start tonight on to the foot of Rosneck into JP as he slowly build out of the bed. But good high press by DC. They watched the game last week, Steve, they saw the the danger can possess for the Sounders
if a team puts some high press on his back line. Yeah, and I like that. Schmiz is coming out and saying, you know when I played it, what we played, But you can do that multiple ways. There's nothing wrong with that. Time's being direct just because it causes the back line well down the right hand side. It's Jordan Maric top of the box of Rosneck strikes miss cleared it followed by Atensio back to the foot of Rusnak inside the box finds Jordan Maric's whipsl on the six yard box back of the
net. Leochu. What a start by the Sounders and that's exactly what Brian Schmidtz asked for his team, a response from last week, and they give it here in d C. It's DC unit didn't Sounders won and with the first real attack of the game, the sound is making it count and Jordan Morris had his fingerprints all over that initially great running behind he makes a little cut back to Albert Rusnick and maybe Albert should do better with that first opportunity.
It stayed alive for the Sounders and then Leochue, doing what you're taught as the opposite side winger, get inside the box and we've seen the replay here, so Albert Rousade doesn't catch this very well. It's blocked potentials in there. Albert's still in there to keep the pressure on. When it gets back to Jordan here he fires in a really good cross and Io Twue just has to redirect that does not need to and any of his own power.
It's all on the cross, redirect it and the Sound is finally gets some good fortune through the goalkeeper's legs and in off the post and listen, not being the best start, but you all goals change games and the Sound is now something to protect and hold on to, and it's the ideal start. Now for branch Messter's team. Well, Leo two five goals, eight assists on his campaign last year, we'll break out a year for Leo Chwo on our left hand side, combined very well with Jordan Morris and the early part
of the season it was typically a Leo two to Jordan Morris combination. This time it's Jordan Morris to Leo Chu. And we talked about Jordan Morris playing on that right hand side. It was his right foot able to find the head of Leo Chu just darting in front of Herrera put in the back of the net. What to start for the Sounders. Now they got to hold on. We saw it at San Jose scored a goal, gifted one away. The Sound is now just dropping back. Little pressure for Masovsky. Just
gotta hold their line. Can they absorb this? Next five minutes of pressure from DC was all DC. In this first fifteen minutes of the game, there's an away team, Steve, you know it better than anybody. You don't have to entertain. You have to find the back of the net when you get a chance. That's exactly what you need to do. As the ball goes over the top cut by Stroud found a pocket of space inside the box. Dangers for the Sounders. Need to watched those long balls. We
know that DC like to play direct at times. Herrera has it this near side DC's right as they attacked the goal to our right, picked up by Cody Baker well down the line. That's okay by Cody Baker, just drops it down the line. Bonno comes out of the DC goal decked out in all blue, finds bartlet on this right hand side. Perfect start for the Sounders. Can of for anything more as they come into the nation's capital.
Certainly backs against the wall relative to results this year. Two tough road games against an unbeaten Philadelphia and DC. We've played well in games, but what a start for Leo to back in the lineup and for Brian Schmetzer. Steve, you've been in the locker room with Brian as I have sometimes less is more. I think the players expectations, know what they have to do tonight,
and so far they've played well as an away team. Yeah, this is a sort of game where you cannot be waiting for the coach to motivate you and get you riled up ready to go. You have to be just as a player, just from having pride as a player, what it means to you to be on this team, be a Sounder. I think those
are the sort of things you've got to lean in on. And we know that the players, you know, do have a lot of experience, winning experience, championship experience in this team, and it just hasn't been seen at times and maybe too much of a focus all comes in headed over the top. It was a wide open morale his first start, getting drafted in the last draft from Georgetown University. Sneaks in between the two center backs whipped in
by Herrera and that's a chance for DC. Too easy for the Sounders back line, allowing Morel to drift in top of the six. It's gonna be a goalkick for the sound as remains DC nil. Sounders won, but Steve zac Quarney a really good chance for DC. It could very easily be one one. That's first of all, it's a fantastic cross and what happy for the sounder is there is Yema was so fixated on ben Tek that both Jem and Christian Rodne was so drawn to ben take The boy never went that far.
The ball ended up ended up towards a penalty spot and Morel's in there. And if he just gets that a little bit lower to the side, Stephen Frould would have had a lot more problems there. Did not quite catch it well. But that's what the game is now. For the sound is you have the lead something to protect. You have to manage the game. DC are in many respects having their way in the final third right now,
getting bored wide, getting crosses in. Continue to ask questions. When a team does enough of that, the game somehow rewards them a deflection, a long shot from distance, something happens, a player breaks free, as we just saw. So for the sound you seem too little of the game in the DC United half. You can do it the way branchmister wants to do it, but you also can do it by being a bit more direct,
forcing second boards, chasing lost causes and things of that. Nature Well sound As FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. If you have a slight pause in the game, medical staff's on for the Sounders taking a look at Massovsky who went down, just pointing to his
back and Steve. Of course, we have these new injury rules when you get the medical staff coming on, unless there's a head injury or the player gets a yellow cartage we worked through last week, it's going to be a two minute delay when that player comes off, depending on how bad Massovski's injury. Of course, when the player comes off the field, it's gonna be two minutes until he can come back on. So you're playing with a man down. So you now think a player is not gonna go down or stay
honest, they absolutely have to or need to. And then that's the case with Masoski. Doesn't look too happy. It seems like he's he's at least shaking his head a few times that he can't carry on. He's going straight to the bench at this point. And it may be an early introduction for Ralrudi as you'd think. Well, we had this of course against Montreal when new who went off early in the first half Becausey Baker came on and that game turned out well, five nil win for the Sounders at home. I
felt that was the turning point for the Sounders season. Now we're gonna have Vargas. Who's gonna come off the field? Is that gonna be a Jordan Morris up front, potentially in a shift in that midfield line. Yeah, you're gonna see Jordan go Curious now how he ends up playing the right side of that midfield that's the one crusis there. Because you have Jao Parlo, you have Attention and Vargas, you are all much better in the middle. So maybe he's gonna ask Violas just go out and just do a job.
Yeah, just do a job. I know Brian's talked about Vargas playing on that right hand side at times. I think it started the game last year on the right hand side. He got that assists. Of course in Portland early part of the season last year when he went down the right hand side, cut it back to ruy Diez, but that was from a central midfield position. But curious why ruy Diez isn't coming on the field. Maybe Brian
can answer that question after the game. It's surprising because Raul only played a half last week and I have mentioned, yeah, he only played a half. He was the first one to be sabbed after that. And he's been, for me, the best playoffensively this season, the spark. He's actually had a grat attitude. He's played really well, taking whatever the game's giving him. So did coaches have their reasoning? I would be I'm surprised we've
not. We're not seen Raoul just come in for a natural change there. Steve has got something to do with the fact that sound as a goal up away from home. At that point you're thinking, yeah, but it's a twentieth minute. I think you start thinking about protecting too much. It can actually back for Stroud the right corner of the box. Good step by Cody Bakers. Stroud just and looking at the referee half heartedly asking for something. It was a good step by Cody Baker. Just flick the ball off the
toe of Stroud. Does he trying to make his move towards the end line. It's going to be a throw in this near side the DC right in the hands of Herrera. As the scene mentioned that Herrera is arguably one of the best right backs, if not the best right back in the league. We could argue Alex Roldan's right up there as well as Referege just puts the whistle to his mouth just cause it a little bit of push and shove inside the box between Bartlet BENTECHI big boys. Of course, you got McVeigh up
there as well. Take is a big lad of me. Anyone who kind of towers over ya, I mean that is scary, scary. And these are the situations. See you've got to front of him well with somebody of size and then kind of sandwich him in. But as he sits top of the six. These is where second ball is as important as the first lie As it comes in, flicks in, bounces around, cleared up and away by Rosneck. Well done by the Sounders. Dahomie knocks it all the way
back to it was a little bit the pacer in the past. As Bonno was forty yards out of his goal, flicks on by Herrera, headed away by Cody Baker, his attention, your ball gets knocked up. Herrera lets the ball go out of play, throws it in quickly finds Pirani to strout top of the box straight saved by step and Fry. It goes from Morell again all of fourteen yards out little cutback, one time shot down to his left hand side. Stephan Fry pulls out a wonderful save to keep the Sounders
up here one nil. That's a fantastic save. I mean to get down that quickly because DC they took the front so quick. Corda Sounders off god and he's such a quick cutback. And it's a first time attempt there in the not completely in the corner, but low enough to Steven Fry had to adjust his movements stead he got a really strong time to it. That's fantastic save by Stephan Frey. The homemade bundles over Vargas far side. The sounder
is right. It's another quick giveaway by the Sounders. It allowed DC to come down the left hand side, ball across the six, eventually cleared by the Sounders. But here's why you need those senior players. Steve right is a calm the game. Down, manage the game, knock the ball along. We talked about it off Sometimes when you down a man in this case, you upper goal. You know, don't take any chances now and again
we're seeing too much of the game in the sound As half. Right now, there's not been anything sustained in the DC United half that which is their defense half. The Sounders attack in half. And it's not about playing just long balls for the sake of it. It's what it causes your opponent to do. You know, they challenge the headers. It won't be a clean
head of second boards. Things that nature get you get your lineup. It just allows you to relieve pressure and push yourself up to night and then you actually earn the right to build out the back more because they're going to respect that danger of the balling behind as well. Or as the Sounders throw right in front of Brian Schvetz to Coddy Baker with his youthful enthusiay hasn't try to sprint after the ball. Brian just grabbed him by the shirt and said,
slow down side. You've got to London. There's a lot of games within the game, and when you're when you're a goal up, walk to everything everything, and when you're losing that you spread to it. It's just breaking momentum, right, I mean not necessari gonna burn off too much, it's just breaking the momentum along with eleven men behind the ball and then defend again. Take your time because you've got to get the backland up for the Sounders
at some point very deep, and it's allowed. There's so much space between the Sounders midfield and the backland in DC A doing a good job playing between those lines. And as the home team, they've done everything they need to do except defend that one attack the sound has had, which the Sounders will be grateful for. But concorting to allow team to have dismus possession. This many comfortable touches because eventually, at some point they will create another big chance
and on that occasion, Stephan Fry may not be equal to it. This straight out to Morel plays the ball to this near side, the right to click. Who's gonna whip it in towards that sex overhead kick. That's the third chance for Morel inside the box. First was aheader, second one was a low driven shot saved well by Stephan Fry. And this time it's an overhead kick from all of fourteen yards from a twelve yards from a cross from
the outside. Cool technique, but he makes good connection towards that far post. It goes why it's a goalkick for the Sounders. They remain one up here at DC. But he's been energetic from Georgetown obviously local kid in terms of where he went to university. It's a little bright. Yeah, you can see, you can see why. You know they're they're a little bit high on him there because he's been the most dangerous guy kind of pitch so
far for DC United. On that occasion, trying to the sort of the overhead kick there, didn't quite get his angles right, but just that he would try that. Here's Leo Chu inside the box. Little nudge by Herrera just enough to knock you off balance. He picks up towards the end line, runs away with it. A little of the experience from Chew. He could have potentially gone down You never know where the referees could have give him
something. There's a little nudge in the back by Herrera as Chew was running through as he comes back to win the ball picked up by Perari down to Stroud this near side the right hugging that sideline. Good tackle by Leo Cheu, hustling for his team, just what Brian Schmittz would like to see. There's a good break by the Sounders there continuously under the Kosh. Sixty five
percent possession for DC so far in this game. As Jonathan Bell goes up to challenge against Beneke, DC retained possession with Pirani goes out to McVeigh to Dahomey fastside the left, cuts inside helt Leer and support. He doesn't. He comes to this near side the right towards Stroud, too high for strownies.
He clips the top of his head, goes over the near touchline for a throw and for the Sounders. Let's getting here in the twenty seventh minute, nine fifty am. Wherever you're listening to us at home in the car SYNCD up with Apple, we appreciate you joining us Sounders on a tough two game
road trip here on the East Coast. First game tonight in DC. Second game on Tuesay against Philadelphia. So far, so good for the Sounders. It's an early goal by Leo Chew off his head from an assist from Jordan Morris and puts up. The sound has one goal to Nill with a much change starting eleven Masoski. Unfortunately he has had to go off the field due to injury, and Vargas is now on the field sluding on that right hand
side. And Jordan Morris is now playing up top Sounders in their anniversary kit attacking the goal to our left, just sitting ten yards inside their own half of the field, just absorbing some pressure. Seen that many times at lumen Field over the years, where teams are okagious absorbing pressure as and away team, they don't have to entertain the crowd, so I'm not grinding out of results. The ball goes over the top, slashing run by Stroud, comes
on, well, it's got a chance around the goalkeeper. It's gonna be a pe kN is that gonna be a red card? And that is not what the Sounders wanted. It was Stroud who went over the top. Ball comes in and that's a red card for Steph and Fry Stroud, not the ball around the Sounders goalkeeper went down, brought down the right midfielder for DC United, and now the Sounders upper goal giving away a PK now the down a man Steve Zacquani. I mean on first look, it looks a definite
PK. I don't think Stephen Fry is arguing that it is why I will defend goalkeepers. I think it's almost too harsh for me to if it's not a violent play and egregious play. He's trying to make a play on the ball. It's a foul. You take the foul. Yellow card there. I think you can move on. I think when it's always a red card, then you're being punished a penalty, red card and a suspension. I think three punishments for one play sometimes for me is a bit excessive, but
those are the rules. The Sounders know them, and DC unite given a golden chance, golden chance to get back into the game now and it's it's a penalty per Stephen Fry. Stroud dribbles around him, brings him down and the Sounders now have to go to their bench again. Now there will be major adjustments, and you're thinking, who does rans to take off here Vogas
just game one, he's going to be an attacking player. You'd think you don't take off Jordan Morris at this point in the game because you'll need him. You don't take a real two. You think you'll need him. But Branch options are a little bit limited. And we see Steph Fry trans off the pitcher listen as a penalty, and yes, by the laws of the game, is a red card. But for a long time I felt that
automatic red card for foul for Gorky. But it can be a bit harsh because now you've given out the penalty, You've got miss rest of this game the red card, and you miss a future game or Tom Jutcher warming up. Andrew Thomas, who of course is going to get the start on Sunday, I mean Tuesday night against Philadelphia. He started that game. As Jackson Felts was walking that through during the pre game that the same team has to start that game at the same moment in the game, which was the sixth
minute or so. Andrew Thomas now is going to take his time. Of course, nothing can happen until he comes on the field. First thing he's going to have to do is face a penalty. And whereas the Sounders last week on a red card seem to wither somewhat join that second half, can the Sounders pauls something out of the bag here The referee's still listening to var I'm not sure if he's going to make a change. He's got the wistole. He's going to allow Andrew Thomas to come on the field, So no
change. It appears from var check we're saying we're seeing Stephen Fry argue with the fourth officials. He puts the number up. We're gonna see who comes off. It looks likes to be Leo Chew, goal scorer Leo Chew. He will start on Tuesday night as well, Steph and Fry continues to be perplexed in some ways. But I think he knew as soon as he brought him down seat, just his body language, knew that he was going to get a red card. He gives yeah, Andrew Thomas a high five.
Yeah, and Steph can argue all he wants. I can say and argue all I want to. That is the way the game is called. It's it's a penalty and is a red card, as harsh as you may think it may be at time, That's the way the game is. Steph knew it, and you got to give this Unite credit. They've been a plan, a lot of pressure, and that was actually a very good time to run good boarding behind point it down brilliantly and really great skill to get around
Steph there. And Andrew Thomas has a chance to be a hero here. Well, Andrew Thomas says. He walks on the field, takes a couple of big breaths. The first thing he's going to do is face this penalty. DC United have the chance to tie it up here. Sounders upper goal Leo Chu header. He has now gone off the field to make way for Andrew Thomas. Sounders are gonna be down a man, and it's gonna be that man ben Teke six goals on the year already for Ben Teke fourteen goals
last year, a MLS All Star. As the referees whistle goes, he takes a breath, four steps up, little stutter step, plays it in top of the corner goal for DC United. They tie it up here, and for the Sounders it's gonna be another tough, grinding match that they're gonna have to find a way to get back in. And Steve zach Corney a good start in the first thirty minutes of the game. Upper goal now down, the man, all tied up and already I've had to go to the
bench twice. You know, without wanting to do that. So having to go to the bench twice here the sounders, So it's disappointing because you wanted to maybe at least get to half time with the lead intact and then from there the coach stuff can make the adjustments they need to kind of figure out how to make preserve the lead in the second half. But the game happens and DC United they forced the issue. And I said it for many times.
You give a team that much of the ball, things will happen eventually, and that's what happened there. Just force the play. Shroud bought the ball down really well going to the box penalty. Now for the sounders of how do you play, you're gonna I'm thinking we'll see a four to four one who goes well because the person on the pitch don't line up too well for that. You're thinking Jordan stays up top, Vargas on the right, you have JP and attention. Maybe Russnack has to push to the left slightly.
You'll play a bit invertede, you think. But now it's about being compact. You Now this next five minutes, DC got their tails up. They're gonna push and push and track to get the lead. The Sounders have got to make short against halftime at at least one one. Well, Sounders, This is not uncommon for the Sounders so far this season. Red card against Colorado early in that second half for a second yellow and a ten coo.
They gave up a goal in the eighty seventh minute to tie that one up, and of course last week two red cards against Vancouver as yeah, my users all experience or nudge as the ball goes over the end line for a Sounders goalkick. Today, as the boom boom of the drums start up again first time back this season, fans procesting a off season preseason tour of Saudi Ray, and they protested that by not bringing their drums and not bringing their supporters clubs into the stadium. They're back tonight and now they have something to bang their drum about as the Sounders are down a man, all tied up here Beneke penalty.
The Stephan Fry brought down Stroud inside the box, got the red card and that counted out Leo Choo's first half headed That put the Sounders up. As the ball shifts this near sight the right to Herrara down the line again timer space in the box for DC flicked up by Click headed away and see
if it's happened a few too many times in this first half. Yeah, it's an even at eleven minute, they've had their way, especially on this right hand side the night had They've got in there so many times, a lot of crosses have kept the Sounder's back lane under pressured in tire game, working so hard, and you can see why the fans will say they enjoy
the playing style under this current coaching staff. Click's gonna drive the b towards the far post to Pentechy who picked off against Morris, spun into that back post. Felt given by the referee on Beneke. It's gonna be a free kick for the Sounders inside that box. Andrew Thomas gets it going quickly, referee is going to call it back. It was Rosneck who managed to spin out of pressure play the ball in behind to a dashing Jordan Morris, but
all for nothing. As the referee pulls it all the way back, it's gonna be a free kick for the Sounders. See this is all about character, strength of will, all the stuff. Stand up and be counted. You know, backs against the wall, you have every reason to feel sorry for yourself. You know we start Masofsky. He gets injured, you know we'll go go to the bench. Stephan Fry gets enough, we go go to the bench. And now playing with ten men again, if you're the
sound Is, it's about its signing out to be counted. Listen, teams of ten men have won games before. This is not a foregone conclusion. And I think we'll see if this team has learned from last week. I think when it Sounds went not to ten men last week, they almost like accepted that defeat was inevitable and they played in that way. At this point, you're one one you know used to have the threat on the countertack of Jordan Morris. You got a quality on the pitch, the likes of Albert
russknack Job, Polo Stow there, Christian rol Done. These are big time players, players who who you've won a lot of games with us. So for the Sounders, and you're also playing a DC United team that you don't have to fear. You know, yes they're good, they're shine a little bit of the quality today, but you will get chances. Must defend very well, stay compact and don't give anything silly away. If DC's to get anything, it's because they've absolutely earned it. Yep. Last week it was
gifts given to Vancouver. Tonight the message will be from the players on the field to the staff sitting on the bench. Nothing cheap. Thirty seventh minute here DC one Sounders one. As the Homey picks it up on the far side of the left picks up again top of the box, no real pressure from the Sounders down to Andrew Thomas is right, eventually saved well by the Sounders goalkeeper, but it was to Homey found the original ball on the left
hand side. A couple of ricochets and giveaways for the Sounders to home who took a shot from twenty yards out, eventually reasonably comfortable for Andrew Thomas. Remains one to one. Jordan Moyce slides in just exactly what Brian Schmittz who would like this near sight it's gonna be a throwing in the hands of Stroud
here Era, we'll step up and take this the right back. The ball goes back and driven from this near sight to the far side to McVeigh who carries the ball forward towards Dahom. A little loose on the pass goes under the foot of Dahome, the former Vancouver white Caps player. It's gonna be a Sounders throwing on the far side. You know, that's all what they are. And I'm not always someone that says that sort of wholester of the
game, but it can inform a lot. And you know some of the stats today with DC United, They've made three all the three times as many passes in the final third as the Sounders twelve crosses to two. Those sorts of things shure you how the game is kind of gone with the Sounders. I've not been able to keep the ball anywhere for any PROLONGPERI in the final third. But now we're getting a chance, a free kick and a yellow card. So another yellow card for DC United and set pieces becoming huge in
this scenario between job Parlow and Russ Snack. There must be quality there. There must be quality because these might be what you aroound for the rest of the game to try and get a little chance here. The yellow cards unbelievably harsh. The well, that's an SGB yellow card on Ethan Bartlett. When a foul is called, SGB trialers are here to help visit SGB dash law dot com sounders have it forty five yards or so from Barno's goal, just
right of center. Did you mentioned, Steve this is where down a man all tied up. That's where it's about good delivery. Brian Schmetz has talked a lot about Andy Rose and the work that he's done on the practice field for set pieces. The end of the day, it's just about putting a decent ball on a decent location, learning you players attack the ball. Saw that last week, towards the end of that first half, Brian Schmetz talked
about that chance that Jordan Morris had at top of the six. Could have been a very different game going in at halftime one goal up and find a
goal here to go up one goal before the half. Ball whipped in top of the six, headed up and away by DC finds the chest of straw challenged by rossnak Well picks it up it's near side the left flicked in towards Bell little one too, so Russick inside the box towards the end line, comes off, Bartlett over the end line, corner, kicks Sounders remains DC one, Sounders one, Steve Zach one and that was a great delivery and it ended up being a pass out to Christian Rodan who puts in a fantastic,
fantastic cross and the Sounders did well. Albert Rusnik applying pressure, keeping the attack alive, drives into the box, wins a corner and now another chance. I'm a set piece, so this is where you want the ball at this point in the game, at the half, and if you can find a way to sneak ahead, it does a world of good going into halftime and change the dynamic of that team. Took five minutes to half time. Can the Sounders find a goal? I'm up in the air by rossnak
this left un side and swinging his right foot. Good delivery headed up and away by DC finds JP tries to switch it back towards rossnick ricochet is off and eventually does get it all the way to this near side. The left football by JP finds the foot of Rosneck challenged by the homemade all down the
line to the left channel to Vargas's dashing past. McVeigh managed to keep it into a tentio, slips to Yama and she has a bit of a week shot into the chest of Bono. But good play for the Sounders kept that attack going. Crowd asking for a yellow card, the yellow card given it was just preventing Bono from getting going by Jordan Morris as he gave a little nudge to the DC goalkeeper. Feels like the referee just they dig themselves a
hole sometimes, Steve, it's just two yellow cards too involved. Honestly, I think some of these things you just have a quick word, you say, letter go. It's just too involved and it stops the flow of the game and it pushes them into a corner too, because now you have multiple players on yellow cards and then they're playing on age and it's one little foul, and if you've been giving yellow casts for that kind of foul, then
you kind of have to. So I think the beshl Feeze really let the game play itself out, get involved if they have to, and they just sort of managing the game letting the game flow, and we've seen a little bit too involved this afternoon. Arler shifts it from center all the way to the left hand side, eventually bounces a couple of times to Andrew Thomas. Think you could pick it up, Andrew, Yeah you can. That's not a back possible ball goes into Jordan Morris, but it could turn into a
really good ball. Jordan Morris has a chance, flips by McVeigh, comes back towards his right foot, flicks with the outside his right to Ruzneck. Top of the box, challenged by click comes in big hefty challenge by you know Stroud who went down. It's gonna be another yellow card, is it? Yes? It is. There's an SGB yellow card for Stroud this time the player who got pulled down for Stephan Fry just on top of his own box when a foul is called. SGB trial lawyers are here to help visit
SGB dash law dot com. And this is exactly what Steve Zachquan is talking about. Chance top of the box. Can you get good delivery in? As we approach the end of this first half, it was Cody Baker who just nipped in front Strauta went down early play by the Sounders left back just waited for Stroud to come took the impact free kick. Let's see if the Sounders can find something here. As we approach the end of this first half, we're all tied up here at Audi Field. They'll leave us at halftime,
Jackson Brad Diego will be back to break it all down. Lots again to break down here in the first half in the Nation's capital. It's JP over the ball, this time just five yards outside the eighteen yard box on this left hand side. Do you see holding their line just outside the PK spot, a little bit of space between that line and Bono sitting a yard or so off his goal line. Good delivery and it goes in all the way through to Bono foursheet of the Sounders. It wouldn't didn't find a man
in green. Bonno just gonna take his time. Sound is gonna have to retreat, but Steve, those are the times you just gotta get some good delivery here. It just has to be there, and I think JP had the right idea. It's the one you want to frame on goal and if no one touches it, then it ends up in the back of the net, but you want players running across the goalkeeper. I think just didn't get
the angle quite right. The height was a bit off and didn't give the likes of Yamo and even to Jordan Morris a chance to really get out of that. But fin as sound as the last five ten minutes has been good, a lot more of the ball showing that. Listen, We've tell the men you can find moments to play, and it'd been a bit more direct getting into the DC United half and then forcing turn off was forcing second boards.
That's what the game's got to be. Jordan's done well running into blind channels with things of that nature as well, and that's what the game is gonna be the rest of the way going forward. Well, the Flex membership is soccer on your schedule, Attend any regular season matches with who you want, in the seats you want, and save on single match pricing. It's

Learn more by texting Flex to two zero six eight three seven goal could challenge by Cody Baker on this near so the sound has left picked up quickly by Stroud thirty yards from the end line goes center to pelteller, goes all the way across the left hand side to Homemade back to Pelteler or combination triangles from DC as sounders hold their line top of the
box. So see how these final minutes are the first half all tied up here in DC one one the ball finds Potea's click, comes out to this near side the right to Herrera towards the end line, just dinks it towards that back post. There's Ben teke up and puts it in the back of the net. We've seen that before. Off his head and that is not what the sounders want. Here it Audi field, it's DC one, DC two sounders one. Listen. There's some things in football you can prepare for
before the game. Ben takes an air of presidents. He's the physical presence. He's good in the air. It's one thing knowing it, another things stopping it, and all Hero had to do that. The only thing he was focused on is standing the ball up and it's it's not even a world class cross, but it's what DC United have done well in the first off, going from left to right. So much space and this is maybe the fifteenth cross that's come from the right hand side, and he just stands that
ball up and Christian Rodan had no chance. Ben take you see him time it well, gets up perfectly and to get generate that kind of power. Gives Andrew Thomas no chance and he gets a touch to it. But that's a powerful head up by ben Teke. And it's what Dese Night has done well. They've gone to the right hand side as often as possible, put balls into the box and the timing before halftime, it's what the Sounds wouldn't have wanted. We wanted to get a half time one one and now it
is a very long way back. Well for the Sounders going up a goal in the fourteenth minute red card, two unanswered goals. McVeigh just flicks it over his head to Herrera. But Discount Tire get thirty percent short to average weight time when you buy a book online at Discount Tire dot com and Steve, there's a lot of minutes left. Nine minutes of added time from the referee. Yes we had an injury to Massovski, Yes we had a red
card, but nine minutes nine seems high. This reminds me of what we saw during the World Cup in Qatar, and I was I was there in car time. It was in thirteen minutes, twelve minutes it was in each half, so nine seems a bit high. But the Sounders you may want this. It's a chance to put a ball into the box here with Cody Baker on a long throw and if you can get us off back eleven before halftime, Bob comes in and Ben Techy's gonna head it up and away.
It's gonna be a corner kick for the Sounders. Good long throw by Cody Bake on this near side the Sounders left headed over the endline by Ben tech. Sounders have a chance here from the corner spot. Nine minutes of at a time, DC up two goals to worn against Sounders who were down a man after Stephen and Fry got a red card pulling down Stroud as he flashed inside the eighteen yard box. Sounders have it on this near side, the left, one arm up by Roznak. Can you find some good delivery count
towards that back post. Eventually bounces through Herrera lets it go. It's gonna go out for a throwing on the far side. The DC unighted left and I think Danny, no matter what happens between now and halftime, whether the Sounders get level it's days the same or DC go ahead. You have to address the issue having on this sound is left, DCU and I are getting in behind every single time, and you can't allow that kind of scene with
the threat to having the box to continue to get a crosses. I think you know it's probably eighteen crosses in a first half alone, which is very very high to allow, and so for the Sounders, you've got to find a way to correct that, whether that's you know, asking Cody Baker to really slide over and stay home a bit more, releasing one of your defensive midfield is to cover that that track the attacking midfield is run because it's not
just one player, it's three different guys sometimes making that run into that space and they're having a lot of joy right now. Fell to homemade on at tense Here was heflcted around the corner, ball came in from a throne on the far side of the sound is right. You get another chance for the Sounders to put some decent quality delivery in. You know, the Sounders are down tonight. They have a good record against DC over the last nine games, only one loss. It was the last time around, it's going to
be JP. It's going to it in the right channel, thirty five yards from the end line, DC holding just inside their eighteen yard box. Here's where the Sounders do have an opportunity to put the ball in the back of the net with good delivery. Ball comes in whipped in well towards the six who's towards Jordan Morris off the chest of Yama, flicked away by click and here come DC in transition, but picked up well by Rossneck finds Yamar to
Jonathan Bell. He's got a chance to try and find Jordan Morris. Ricochets Off finds the foot of Yeamar this near side the left and lets it roll out for a Sounders throwing. It's going to be Cody Baker is most likely going to come up here and try and launch one in. Can the Sounders find something. It doesn't have to be pretty. We mentioned it playing away from home. You're not there to entertain the crowd. You've got to find a goal. Now. Ball comes in all the way towards the near side
of the six yard box, headed up and away by DC. They've defended well so far when they've needed from these set pieces, the Sounders have it middle of the park with rosneck little reverse pasta Vargas has been quite since he's
come on the field. Substitution for Leo Chu in transition is DC try to find Benteke clip forward by Christian roll Dan straight to the chest or DC United central offender McVeigh and here come DC again this near sight with Herrera tucked in from his right back spot Ceda Stroud all the way on the right hand side. This near side finds it to his foot one v one versus Cody Baker towards the endline, clips it towards that far post over the end line remains
DC two Sounders one and this score update is presented by Provident Swedish. It's good here towards the fifty minute mark of nine minutes of added time. About halfway through Sounders looking to try and get a bit of some green shoots coming towards first half. Can they find a way to build out they don't? Given away by Yea Mai was pressure coming in challenged on Christian roll Dan it's Pirani and the fast signed is that gonna be another week? Yellow card?
Nothing given by the refuge this time it's gonna be a free kick for the Sounders. Not a bad place for DC to give up that foul. See, no, it's not and they're gonna press. And it was again, it was very casual from name O there. And I've never been a defender, but I think if you're on the edge of your box at this stage in the game, knowing how it's gone, you're going to get pressure and
to receive the boards. You're so casually and think you have all the time in the world, it sounds I think at some point after I have a discussion about we have to go direct a lot more often because you're causing a lot of your own issues back there. You don't have to cause. Well, let me ask this question. You've got Jordan Morris, who retains his
position on the field this week as he did last week. Brian Schmittz talked about the reason being it's the outlet, yeah, and then maybe it would use it use the outlet, yeah, And I think I think it's good you play a long board up towards order. Morris. He might have win that head up, but he'll make it hard for the defenders to have clean headers and when they knock it down that's where you need a tense your russnie
Vargas to be around there. Then you play second boards. Now you're in the DC United half and you can build from there and you mix it up. It's not every time doing that, but I think constantly trying to force playing out of the back for the sacred playing out of the back and getting caught every time. That's a red flag right there, that maybe we should change this a little bit. There's DC in transition, but the sound is
almost wanted from that second ball exactly what we're talking about. Knock it up to Jordan Morriss. He might not pick up the first ball, but it's the second ball the tensia almost found. But they come DC again. As we get six minutes into nine minutes of added time here at Already Field and Washington d C. You see up two goals to one against the Sounders.
I wants your mind, everybody. Sounders playing down a man now, second week in a row, where they got a red card bobbed up towards the end line, towards Stroud, inside the box, towards the six yard box. It was morell again, little flick back heel from the court of the six yard box. Andrew Thomas had to be sharp down to his left, made a good say, but that's four really good chances is that run from Stroud. There's nobody on Stroud. He's standing behind Coldy Baker. There's nothing
Corny Baker can do. You have to have one of your defensive midfielders has to track him. That's the run you actually see at a hight level. We watch Kevin de Brain and those kinds of players. They make that running in the half space is very hard to defend. And dcun and have made that play ten times this half and the sound has yet to adjust. And just going back to that conversation about playing out of the back. The guy
who bought is the football Pep Guardiola. What he's done now is found a goalkeeper and kick the ball at one hundred meters and they play a lot of long balls at Man's City now because he realized, yes, teams are really good at pressing. Now now I need to change myclosphere a little bit and buy press things. If it's good enough for Pep, I think you have to look into it or gets flicked in so that eighteen yard what's headed clear
by Jonathan Bell finds the foot of Dahome on the rebound. Core comes in headed clear by Jonathan Bell well played by the young man, clears his lines inside a six yard box picked up by DC far side their left hand side. Click shows for it, finds it twenty five yards from Gold, just spins away. No real pressure from the sounders as you'd expect down a man just trying to hold their line. Get into halftime, recalibrate, reorganize,
it's gonna find something in this second half. Pelteler knocking it back to McVeigh just d you s seeing out these final minutes in possession of the ball. It's whipped in by Herrera, headed clear by Roald Dahn, dropped down to McVeigh, little loose on the ball, but eventually finds Stroud, who clips it around the corner to this near side to Herrera. Down the line again
there's that man again. Slash and run this time by Click tries to find Herrera, who made a little running behind, goes out for a throwing this near side DC's right refree just holding up play for a moment, just to organize a few things. In a conversation between Beneke and Yema, you know it's gonna be a physical game between those two. Yeah, yeah, and then they've they've been going out for a while and I think you know they
might. It's good. You gotta get physical. You have to be wrapped into ben Teke because you're seeing half a yard of space and he's going to punish you inside that box. What is Beneke Two goals on the night so far for that man who's arguing with the referee alongside Yema, one from the penalty spot and one from a towering header on the back post. Well, if there's any player that can try to neutralize Benechi, it's that man.
Yema all goes into Herrera again time and space on his right hand side, is able to flick it in good challenge by Thomas, it gets clattered into Well. Now, of course you got Jacob Casho on the bench to back
up Andrew Thomas. But there's the referees whistle. Sounders got off to a good start in DC leo two fourteenth minute header put the Sounders up and then it was a red card in the thirty second minute from Fry the fold up with Beneket putting the ball in the back of the net from the PK spot and then he folded that up in the forty fourth minute with a towering header to put DC United two goals up, two to one. Up here in the night, Steve, your final thoughts. A lot happened in at half
of Sounders of Road course of emotions. But listen, it's crunch time now for the Sounders. Win must win, So we go into a off time regroup. You can't be negative. You've got g travel up there and you have forty five minutes to come ahead and not save your season, but really breefe some life into your season because they need it right now. We'll take a short break, Jackson Brad Diego, we'll be back to break it all down and halftime Here at Audy Field in Washington, d C. It's DC

Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show forty five minutes in the books at Audi Field in our nation's capital, and
is DC United to your Sounders one? A lot to discuss from that first forty five minutes that featured a red card to Stephen Frye, a denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity. So dog So applies and he is sent off. Penalty kick for Beneke hits and then vent Teke with a header over Christian rolled on and that gets their two goals. It was great header from Leo Truty get the Sounders their one goal. But DC United leading at home to
one and they are up a man for the last forty five minutes. Jackson Pheltz, Brad Evans, Jay Audio here for the halftime show. Yeah, well let's talk about the goal, at least for the Sounders. I mean, yeah, they were under the gun a little bit away from home and tact exchange new guys are on the field, and we asked a question the Sounders going to play out of the back today and they started to and they got caught a couple times. So that was a situation where it's a bit
of a nail bier. But the Sounders found their way out and it was Jostensio that was winning a second challenge and it's a good goal by the Sounders committing numbers forward, and you thought that the Sounders would be on their way right and then come back DC United. We saw service like Steve and and Danny talked about. And for dog Soo, I always assumed that they give
the penalty and not the red card in that situation. And so by definition, right, is that it is a reckless or violent foul to give a red card. It's neither of those things. It's more professional than anything. So if you look at a yellow card for dogso it is the referee may opt for a yellow card if it is not overly aggressive or violent and still give the penalty. So my assumption is that that is always not given as a red card. It's given as a yellow card and you award the penalty
kick. And so it's a bit of a head scratcher for me, as well as a couple of the other yellow cards that the referee gave out tonight. But you know, at the end of the day, it's no excuse from the Sounders. You have to negate the long but anytime you see a player from halfield or behind half field put their head down, you know that the ball is coming long and you have to drop ten or fifteen yards and the Sounders didn't do that in that situation and got punished for it. Yeah,
I'm not surprised with the resentiment those referee at all. There's already how many four yellow cards plus the red card that you know that he gave the
red to Stephan Fry. But I think and just touching to your point, Brad, the Sounders when they committed numbers attacking, they succeeded with that goal right from u Chue, but I think also they gave they gave the ball away a lot on possession to d C I think has around sixty six percent in this first half, and they just gave gave, gave them the chance
for DC United to really take advantage of numbers using their wings. And we saw when actually when the goal came from the Sounders, that's when DC United was really dominating the game, right, So I thought that was going to be a big change up. But then DC United, you know, scores that PK and then I think the Sounders for moments they were playing really well.
Also I like from the fortieth to the forty fifth minute when the Saunders start touching the ball, start playing, and they had a few chances right to even hopefully tell the game. But I think this second forty five minutes it's going to be crucial for the Saunders to come back at least to get a response to say they're behind the eight ball is an understate, and to down a man down and goal right now for Seattle. This copyrighted audio cast of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, to reproduce, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. Taking a look at the Sounders bench tonight, it includes Raw, Ruy Diez, Paul Rothrock Oh, Bet Vargas has come off the bench,
Andrew Thomas has come off the bench. Jacob Castro's on there, Danny Lava is on there, Dylan Tevis is on there. So right now, the Sounders have three subs left available. They can make them at two times right now, at halftime and one other occasion. So it's roll Paul, Jacob Castro, another goalkeeper, Danny Leavit, Dylan Tevis. So really kind of you have what is that four outfield options, Brad, that you can put on the field at two different occasions now and later on. Brian's gonna
it's quite a test for him and his coaching staff. Yeah, look, I don't know what they're gonna do at halftime, but it's a big question mark because as a coach, you have to think if I make my two subs in the second half with fifteen to twenty minutes left and we have someone that gets injured because you're playing down man, it's that extra ten to fifteen to twenty percent energy that you're putting into the game. Then all of a
sudden you're playing down man. So it's it's a bit of a crapshoot right now, but you're certainly gonna see Raoul at some point. I just don't see any of the other guys make being big, big difference makers on the field right now, you know, I just don't see it. Choose already off the field to give him a break. You've got workhorses in the midfield. Now. I cannot predict who's gonna come on this field and when they're gonna come on the field. I don't know if they'll make it at halftime,
but certainly you're gonna see Raoul at some point. Give Jordan a break because still have to play on Tuesday night as well against Philly. Yeah, it's tough, right Besides Raoul, who's the game difference? I would say maybe Danny Leava, you know, with some fresh legs, could bring something to the table. But it's just really difficult right now with with with ten
guys, and especially what we saw towards the end of the game. DC United is gonna keep pushing, right they know they also need to win, and you know they're not in such a bad shape as the Sounders, but they're also in a bad place in the in the table right eleventh, eleventh before this game. So so I think what Somenders really need to do is take advantage of there's gonna be at least some spaces when DC United is attacking, and a breakaway could be really a good choice with you know, with
Morris and bringing Raoul righty to bring it, bring it home. Let's hope for that second half of Danny Jackson. Couple of changes to mention. Rudiez looks like has come on the field and we'll get to that ten players that Sounders have on the field right now as we just make sure there's no other changes made by Bryan Schmitz at halftime whilst the players have a game on Tuesday, Truan Morris has made way Sounders down
a man through a sef and fry red card. So the Sounders took the lead in the fourteenth minute of Leo Chu and then they gave up that lead for one two punch a sef and fry red card that culminated into a penalty and the suddenly debate whether that was a red card was it violent conduct? Which is the new rule? Now it's not about last Nan. There was Benekey who managed to put the ball in the back of the net and then a towering header. It synonymous with his type of play puts DC up two
goals. So on here in the nation's capital, Sounders have all the work to do. Rudiez has a regal free we'll get you that starting eleven well in a few minutes has fell on DC by JP. Let's get you that starting liner now Andrew Thomas in the goal of course, coming off the bench to replace Stephan Frye with Leo Chu who made way Christian role, Don Yemar, Jonathan Bell, Cody Baker, Cho Paolo and josh A Tantio in the
middle of the park. Obed Vargas on the right, Albert Rosnack on the left, and then Railruds comes off the bench at halftime for Brian Schmetzer's move and they find a bit of magic through the Sounders number nine, who's provided
so many moments of magic over the years. The ball goes down the far side the right, whopped in towards the top of the six cleard half by Sounders, and then JP gets bundled over by Pirani Sounders in their anniversary kit attacking the goal to our right and DC United deck taul in all black attacking the goal to our left. But set we've seen a move from Brian Schmetze.
You've been in a locker room four times like this, maybe not as what's Branch want is saying to his men, Yeah, you gotta be positive. You know. The guys know then a tough situation. The team knows considering I go before halftime wasn't good, so piling on for that at this point would make no difference. I think you try and be positive. The Raal Rudis substitution makes sense to me because it's gonna be about set pieces and
half chances and things of that nature. And if the one player you can thrive on that, it's Rudy. As Another change that reference that has made, which just noticing here is that Atensio has gone to right back and Christian Rodan is playing on the right of midfield and Vargas and JP centrally, so maybe that's a counterband tech a little bit give some more height back there for those crosses going to the back post. She of a ten so on Yama
and Christian Rodan moves into the midfield. Well, that was a fell by Stroud on a yellow card after a reckless challenge on Cody Baker in the first half, and he kiss part when he was in his mouth at that moment. Based on the referee and the cheap yellow cars he's given up so far, I'll try to dribble again out of the back Ford got punished last week. Ball goes in towards Bentech, just skips by the big DC united Ford on two goals already tonight. Just little back heel towards Stroud comes back to
Herrera. Can cheap giveaway from the Sounders from an experienced player like Yemar. That's why Brian Schwetzer, we're pulling his hair out on the bench. Rolled down, just shifted up a line of steves that kind of mentioned to the home made giving away to JP. Just crunching challenge on Pelteller, but wins. The ball finds Perrani stepped forward by Josh Atensio, slid in by Pelteler goes over this near touch line for a Sounders throwing give that DC lineup momentarily.
Just make sure that no other changes have been made from the men in black. As Vargas trees to spin out of pressure, giving away Beneke. A top of the box given to Yama to GP dropped off, given away cheaply by Vargas all top of the box, a click stepped in well by Atensio, Sounds Sneeda clean things up, foul given by the referee, just calling it back. They're trying to get the game going quickly alongside Steve zac Quani, Hero and the Booth former Sounders winger. We're hoping for a bit
of Sounder's magic in the second half. Steve has experienced so many times playing for the men in Green. As Cody Baker skips by Herrera pushing her back has to be a foul, nothing given by the referee, and the question is how and why? But the ball gets cleared. Sound is picking up top of the box, clip towards rolled on top of the box, reverse past Stensio, clips towards that back post, LANs and Herrera again chance from
the sounders. There is Cody Baker who dashed into the eighteen yard box that looked like a certain penalty where if he gives nothing, we'll see if anything changes on var Or into Vargas and skips by to home it little reverse pass inside tries to go to Cody Baker, who defending by bart Luke just brushes Baker aside. Picked up by bono. We'll see that replay. Now steves that corning, so he gets into the boss Cody Baker there, and the
referee you will say he's gone down easily. My things always be when you're going at full speed, it sometimes doesn't take much to get you off balance. And that may be a case there again, I can understand maybe where referee my think's gone down a little bit easy looking for that one. But I love to play from Cody Baker positive one v one, direct driving, trying to make things happen. As a defender, you put your hands up there, you take a risk, and we've seen those given. I've seen
him given for less ball shifted from center. That's near side the left of the homemade runce towards the endline. Good defending by Christian roll down. But see going back to that PK shout, it was an obvious hands in the back from the angle the referees coming. All he could probably see is momentum for Cody Baker. A push in the back and you're told, as a young kid, pick up pace one v one it doesn't take much to trip
you or four doesn't It doesn't. And I will say also for the way this gain has been ref some of the yellow cars you've seen for that then to be the one you hold your whistle on. Frustrating for the Sounders. It's gonna be a corner kick for DC United up two goals to one. Here in our field, it's to be an inswinger from this near side there left we pinged in towards that back post, finds her Rare off the chest, volley headed up in the air by yeam are good defending. Good block
by the Sounder central defender goes up to try and defend. Ben Tech is in there, just swivels, turns, slices. The shot somewhat finds the hands of Andrew Thomas, who came off the bench in the thirty second minute for Stepan Fry as he trudged off the field. Leo two making way. There's three red cards for the Sounders in two games. In the time of the season where the Sounders need a little bit of luck, you're not finding
it right now with what peers bad refereeing decisions. We're looking at the rules at halftime, the red card decisions have changed. The ball goes down the line to Rudiaz. He's gonna slash him behind. McVeigh tries to play between the legs of the big center back, clears his lines, eventually offside by the assistant. A referee flag did go up, delayed to be a free kick for DC United. But see let's go back. The red card is
about egregious and dangerous play. It wasn't that even though he was the last man. The rules have changed, and that's what my mind went, because I remember football moved away from that. We called it almost a triple jeopardy where one play can't have that much consequence penalty, red card and suspension. That's too much, and they sort of come to the point where it won't be automatic last man anymore, won't We won't call it that. What we'll say is, if you are the last man, you make a violent,
egregious play, then it's a red card. Aside from that, will give the penalty and a yellow card, and that's what that should have been. And that's likely what Stevin Fred was arguing, not the giving of the penalty. It was a penalty, but that should not be a red card. Twenteka gets failed in the middle of the field. It was his initial book header from the goal kick or the free kick inside the eighteen yard box that he won. He won seven of ten aerial duels in the first half one
thirteen last week at eighteen. Certainly powerful presence, as Brian Schmitz had mentioned in preparation for this game, certainly a focal point for DC. And so far for DC, Benekes delivered the goods two goals on the night. So far. They have a free kick with click center of the park, just left of center. He just dinks it up towards that far post, challenged
by Jonathan Bell, headed into the hands of Andrew Thomas. So let's get you the DC United starting eleven Bono and goal, Herrero, McVeigh, Bartlet and Dahome in the back, four Pelchler sitting in front of that back forth Stroud Click Pirani and then Morrell and that man Benteke up front. But even with ben Teke, Steve got two goals. It was morell I had four
really good chances his rookie season. His first start for DC, local boy out of Georgetown University, might be two one, but could have been worse. It could have been worse because if you look at the fact of just the amount of final third passes sustained pressure they had in a final third DC. The amount, of course as that came in. The sounders on the whole actually did defend well. They actually did defend a lot of it well.
But it was just the accent. He was so easy for DC United to get in on that inside right channel, and that was the play they wanted to make. And then especially the second ball, however, it's not about putting in a good cross. It's about standing the ball up in the air as long as possible and give the big man up top a chance to get after it. And he did just that good header into a tend tire
by rolled on for Thomas free kick. Ball goes into Rudias inside the box, just the man you want, with the ball at his feet as he tries to wriggle clear of Herrera fast side the left comes back to a Rusnak in support, little slashing run by JP in behind. He goes square, does Rusnak all the way to this near side to Jem. Nice little ball
into Vargas. Can he skip by? He does, into the foot of JP, finds Rudia top of the box half for yard, takes a shot, deflects it up in the air, GP off the volley difficult technique connects with it blocked by DC's back line, finds the foot and the man JP again just clips it around the corner. Christian Roaldan slips to the ground, goes over the sideline here on this near side for a throw in for DC
night. It remains DC two Sounders one here on ninety nine am Audy Field in Washington, d C Sounders trying to break this barren run to start their season just one win, that five MIL win against Montreal, coming off a disappointing two nil loss last week, albeit they were down two men the red cards by Jackson Reagan and Alex Roldan, who were both serving a suspension tonight.
Hence the big change in lineup alongside the tactical changes made by Brian in preparation for Tuesday nights game against Philadelphia Union, which is that replay from the game that was canceled back in March. A trenchial downpour that took over the field flooded the field, they couldn't clear it and hence the game was canceled. In the sixth minutes, the ball goes into Beneke a little back here towards Parati. Good defending by at Tanzio followed its man. Well it's DC
seemed to find a way to slice through the Sounders back line. Yeah, it was a good attack. Then actually felt there was one more pass to be made. D he had one more extra man over and if that was seemed, they'd have been in. But Hita go again. He's straight out towards the end line. Soft cross towards the near side six yard box cleared by Yeah, over the end line, corner kick for DC United. Yeah, we've just seen a repound that last play. Great play by Ben Tech
in the end, it's a fantastic job tracking back by Justin Tensil. They does really really well. Carvin really does. Saves a goal for the Sounders, but moments letting the balls given away DC back in the right hand channel ball coming in. He a master de fen giving the ball away every two or three passes. Where'shu are defensively there's click again an out swinger this time because short click by Morele slice clearance hacked away by Vargas. Mine's the foot
of Herraro just skips by. Christian rolled on He's to stick a foot in there. Make a tackle ball finds the foot of click towards the end line, hand up goes by Vargas. It's that ball to hand, hand to ball, I think because his hands seemed to be away from the body. I think that's what's made the reference job easier. But I'm gonna say it right now, I do not know what a handball is anymore. Growing up, I always knew it. It was not a discussion handboard, ball to
hand, deliberate, not deliberate. It's changed so much over the years. I don't know what they're gonna give where they're not going to give. My only thinking here is that orbit but and if that hates he's left on, which it does, it's very close to being the side of the box. The only question, Steve is it's got to be conclusive evidence that it's a change in that decision and the angle of the cameras. I'm not sure the refere we can make that call. No, no, So he's made the
right call initially there and again I seem those not given as well. That's the thing. But I think it was a bit high, almost slightly away from the body. You can understand why and as sounders again have to defend a dangerous opportunity here with DC easy chance to stand the ball up and look for you know who. Matao's click one yard from the endline right side flicks
the ball towards the far post to Bentechi. Goodness gracious, it was a side bicycle kick volley that bounced into the turf, went over the crossbar. It's a goalkick for the sounders. Mains DC too sound as one, but certainly another chance from ben Teke is scored from his head. He's scored from the PK spot, this time as a sidewinder that the great good connections went into the turf and bounced over the crossber. Yeah, he makes the job
of the person putting the board in the box so easy. You just gotta stand it up anywhere, and he kind of goals looking for it. It will find him. On that occasion he went for the spectacular, fortunately for the sound as he couldn't pull it off. But at the moment he's got
to be said. It's DC unit looking at the most likely to get a gold, but the sound is also I have short glimpses in this half and as a as a two to one, you've got a whole hope that has set bees a half chance, a moment of magic from distance to pick up a point in this kind of game. Now would feel that auld Win and will give you great momentum going into Tuesday's game. But certainly when you look at Ben Teke, old school center forward, big strong, powerful, got
decent feet as well. But it's a defender. It's just about getting a body on, like holding the shorts. Yeah, playing dirty in some ways as you might. You might be a lot of duncan ferguson the old Amazon striker for you as a defender, was it? He's like did you want did you read physical battle as opposed to the nimble macro oan type. He's gonna try and run past ye. Yeah, played against both types of players
when I was a youth players Michael Owen and I were. I was at Leads, he was at Liverpool. He will get there in a minute, is Christian roll. Dan picks it up on the right side, slips again second time in the second half tow jp top of the box, goes into over the Vargas inside right side, slashes it through good block by McVeigh to home. He tries to wriggle free good win, clean win by the Sounders. Ball goes to the foot of Christian Roll. Dan flicks to the far
post. Bondo clicks it well when it goes into the hands of the DC United goalkeeper. So I would say it depends on your mentality. It's some ways it's easy to play against size. The speed's not in behind, you'd have to worry about that. It's about physical presence. But you know, I certainly got our matched heightwise a lot of times, and it's just you gotta get your body in there. You gotta get tight, You've gotta knock them off balance, and you gotta find every trick in the book to knock
these guys off balance. Because if you give them time a space like that, bantake a header when he can get up in the air without a challenge in some ways that you know, ten yards and in, it's going to be an easy day for a player of his quality. Is the ball goes along, picked up by Atensio again comes off that right back spot, Well finds the ball the foot of Bartlet Sounders sitting deep top of the box.
Ruy Diaz halftime substitute didn't start tonight's game. We'll play against Philadelphia be the first same starting eleven has finished that game after that sixth minute cancelation, and the funny thing is it will start at six minutes. Kind of makes our job a bit easier though, because normally we spend a week trying to figure out what the land up might be, what the coach is thinking, and
now we have all the answers already exactly. Well, Philadelphia were losing one nill at halftime at home tonight to rsl Or gets flipped by Bentechi into the foot of Stroud, good defending by Cody Baker, comes back and Andrew Thomas. You can pick that one up as well, Sam, Yeah, I mean Jess exactly what Joe Parlow and Rosnager letting him know they definitely definitely one he can pick up and understand I want to take any chances there. But
that's not a bad pass. I don't think any referee is are gonna call that as a back pass. But it's amazing just how many head has been takes one even just for flick on Or goes towards the far post, which is this near side to attentional flicks it away. Clattering challenge by Bartlet, is that a second yellow He's on a yellow card. Mcvea is on a yellow card. That's the question they're asking now. I think maybe he gets enough of the ball here, but because he went through the man, the
foul is given. JP is certainly having a conversation. Bartlett doesn't think that's a foul. I mean, he really runs into our redias that you can see why. It's the balance. If the ref I've been calling the game a little bit more loosely, maybe you can let that go. But he does get the ball, but he goes through the man as well, So for me, that is a foul. But you've given a lot of yellow cards for less. All afternoon, we've talked about a single word that's the
most frustrating thing for players is consistency system thereof. In the second half, first half, it felt like a yellow card was just naturally can they have his pocket for every challenge. In the first minute the game, first minute second half, Stroud went in on the far side, clattered into I think it was Cody Baker. Definitely a yellow card in the first off. Wasn't a yellow card? That would have been his second yellow card. Get a
couple of changes. Rodriguez and Hopkins are gonna come off, Pelteler the defensive midfield players as going to come off the field, as is Pirani's a couple of changes here. In the sixty third minute, DC United the leading two goals to one here in the Nation's Capital, nine to fifty kr AM. Last week they had three outfield players on the bench this week A lot more
full this week was injuries and suspensions. Sounders a little light tonight. Jackson Reagan, I mean sorry Jackson felt mentioned knew who is pulled off the bench for disciplinary issue with inside the team confines. Ball gets knocked down the line that's near side the left, chased down by Rodriguez pushing the back on Christian World. Don't good play by the Sounders. Number seven uses his experience.
We free kicked for the Sounders on this near side well sound as FC Soker is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC sixty fourth minute here Sounders down a man down a goal. Certainly optimism going into these final twenty seven to twenty eight minutes or so. See how much additional time will be added. Nine minutes in the first half because of an injury to Massovsky and then that red card. Of course, when Fry had to come off
the field, Andrew Thomas had to get ready to come on. It's going to be a Sound has thrown this near side ten yards from the corner flag. Is it gonna be a chance for a long throw? Coldy Baker's going to come from the left hand side all the way to the right hand side. Benteki's going to come back to help his back line defend this long throw. And these are the things that Steve zac Korney mentioned that the sound is going to take advantage off set pieces. All comes in towards that six yard
but it's flicked up. Did it come off the hand? No, it didn't. Nothing called by the Sounders or the referee finds the foot of Jonathan Bell, who's been pretty solid so far in his first start for the Sounders. Unexpected to start with the late injury from Nathan, he was penciled in to start alongside Yamar with Jackson Reagan's suspension. Ariaga of course going to New England earlier in the week. Bran sch Matz has made mention of Oriaga's contribution.
Obviously twenty nineteen MLS Cup CCL Championship twenty two, one hundred and twenty appearances by Oriaga give him a new opportunity to play some more minutes. Jackson Reagan coming to his own over the last twelve months solidified that central defender spot alongside Yema. They come DC heavy touched by Dahomey allows a tent here to step inside around by Christian Rolldn so attention a little triangle play complex by the sounders. You need to find their way out of pressure. It's going out
for a throw in this near side. Well. This copyrighted audio cast of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express ritten consent of Major League Soccer. Sound was picking up cushion ball by Vargas, finds the foot of rolled down. I was a clattering challenge as well by Hopkins. It just came off the bench, gets a yellow card.
Early Steve was that much different than the other two challenges. And I went to see a replay here to see exactly how much contact there is here. And Hopkins comes in I think and it end it's the body into Christian. I'm not sure if he makes contact with the foot because if not, if that's a stamp, then you're asking a lot of questions there I think ends up being just a body. And that's why just a free kick was given
and a yellow card and nothing more than that. What's an SGB yellow card and a fellows called SGB trial Lawyers are here to help visit SGB dot law dot com. Sounders free kick right channel this the Sounders tech the goal to our right decktail and their anniversary kid a green shirts, blue shorts, white socks. DC United decked out in all black. They hold their line just outside the eighteen yard box. Can the Sounders find something down a goal down
a man? These are the games that can change things or comes in decent delivery. Good header just off the post, bounces around top of the six yard box, still bouncing around. Eventually Yeamark goes in cornerkick Sounders. But good chance for Josh Attencie off the free kick off the post and then away. And that's exactly what you've been waiting for. That kind of delivery.
Give the players a chance in JP puts an excellent board into the box kind of towards that just by the penalty spot, and it's a great contact by Atensio and not she If it's just a post or a hand to the oh, you can't get closer than that, and the sound is very unlucky to not be at two to two right now. It's a difficult headed as the ball comes in and just snapping your head hits the near post comes out, eventually cleared by DC. It's gonna be a corner kick whipped in by Rusnak
towards the front post. Flicked up in the air finds Rudias volley, good challenge by as Herrera blocks rudiez Is shot from the right corner of the eighteen yard box goes out for a thrown on this near side for the Sounders, so the Sounds can take advantage of another long throw situation. Baker's gonna make his way across, gets the ball in his hands, GP in support, but the ball goes long cleared by Benechi as good in the air defensively as
offensively flicked up in the air by Bell. It's gonna take a slight deflection off the chest of Bottom in the DC goal, and he's gonna slow things down. Rudiez puts a little bit of pressure on the DC United goalkeeper Tyler Miller, former Sounders player MLS All Star last year, picked by Rooney, game hosted here in DC. He's been out in the first part of this
season through injury. Back on the bench tonight, jp T has a wriggle free and clear of Rodriguez Tensio. Can he use those long stride to find some space? He tries to find Vargas good play clips up in the air house is around the handball. Referees called Rudiaz. Incensed by the calls right now, Steve zac Quani. The calls aren't going to the sound as favous.
They're not and it's all a lot of these marginal calls. And I don't know if I'm not sure what else Roald can do there in that situation they're saying goes back to hand to ball, ball to hand, and would lean more, I will say, towards the board's hand. But I see why ro would be upset there. There's really not much you can do in that situation. Sounds responding really well coming in the second half, much different than last week. We felt like they withered away ball goes over the top.
Good defending again by Atensio. Much has been talked about over the years with the tensio. Is he going to be a central defender as he progresses through his career to stay in the midfield ball with business side the right down the middle is Christian roll Don just can't connect that pass but picks it up driving forward top of the boxes. Christian Roldan plays the ball into Ruydiaz. Good challenge by Rodriguez, came back Rudiez asking something. Nothing given by the
referee. It felt like the timing was good on the challenge. Steve zac Corning. It's a good tackle. It's a good tackle. It's a good attack by the sound As Christian missed the first chance to put a ball in behind, does really well to recover it. And then when you give to Rudiaz here just not enough purchase on the pass there and yes, definitely definitely
to the board first Roul gets it just a tack too late. But it's encouraging from the Sounders arriving in the box several times now begin to put DC under pressure and there is a way to lose as well. And I think the Sounders were well beaten lost by Vancouver a sort of despondent. There's some fight in this group today. There's a lot of fight pushing after it and
at two onint you believe in a sound is fuel. It can get a second goal corner kick for the Sounders after that tackle from Rodriguez on rue Diez inside the eighteen yard box, it's gonna be on the Sounders right this near side with JP been outswing a corner kick and the Sounders find something from a set piece. There're two hundred and two corner kicks last year. All comes in top of the six, headed up and away by Herrera. It's gonna bounce over the end line. No, it's not. It's gonna be held
up by JP on this near side. Just flicks it around, looks for the foul, nothing given by the assistant of referee standing ten yards away. It's gonna be a goal kick. Remains DC two Sounders one. But as you mentioned, Steve, it feels that the Sounders are gaining a little bit of confidence, getting some momentum DC right now on the heel somewhere it is and I think for DC's well, it's not a team that's on this crazy winning streaker be winning a bunch of games, so they'll feel a little bit
of pressure as the final we saw gets closer. They really want to hang on to that win too, so they'll start to drop a bit more just to preserve their lead, even with the extra player there. And that's an opportunity for the Sound is to continue to apply pressure as they have been doing. Yep DC two three and four in the season so far, score twelve goals but giving up fourteen in the last two games. Have given up goals in the in over to well added time at the end of the second half.
Duncan McGuire scored the game winner for Orlando in the ninety second minute, and then last week it was New York City that got the second goal. Jonathan Bell's on the deck being called in and again just to remind everybody, there is this new injury rule where somebody has to go off for two minutes, but for a head injury that is not the case. So Jonathan Bell gets up on his feet, clattered into it by Ben Tech. It got a little pushing the back run into well, look like the left knee Yama.
Yeah, there is there's a hand down the back of Bell that pushes him momentum wise into them. Yeah, master do his job and clay the board. So not a nice collision, but you have Chris Cornish on the head train and it's good. Yeah, head injury, you can stay on the pitch then I think Bell and d End says he feels good. But if head injury, that's the one you never want to take chances. We just want to check him out, make sure he's okay. He's had a
good game. I think. I think he's actually done everything that's asked of him. He haven't noticed him for any glaring errors and so it's not easy stepping in to a team that's not been winning for your first start, so oft towards the last minute. So he's actually done a solid game and he could be proud at least individually for his first minutes from the start to be
like this. Yeah. Spent three years on the East East Coast and the Eastern Conference with New England for moving to Saint Louis in twenty twenty three, and then signed early in twenty four with the Sounders as backup for knew Who on that left hand side. But you start to see that Coldy Bakers established himself as a true number two and even knocking on the door, challenging knew who for that starting spot had another good outing on that left hand side from
Cody Bakery does give you something steve on that left hand side. It's both forward and obviously tenaciousness on the defensive side as well. Is brave like he just he takes people on. He wants to make things happen. And we've seen her a few times now. The reason why they're very high on him and all sort of forget read Baker waiting to who was really good when he got a chance to play the last season. He's been now injured for quite
a while at this point. But in those two you definitely have options there. They's gonna push new who Knwho's obviously been the man for a while now. But I think it's good to have some pressure behind him and let him know that if you're not in the lineup, which he isn't today, then Cody Baker's more than capable. And to see the staff feel extremely comfortable with him. Was you see Jonathan Bell just trudge off the field or see what's
how serious that head knock was? Hopefully it's nothing too serious or force him off the field, but we'll give you the rest of the bench. Jacob Casher the second goalkeeper to fill in spots as Paul Rothrock and Danny Labor the remaining players on the bench. Santos is gonna come on the field. Experienced player Morele, the young forward signed off the twenty twenty four Super Draft. First start for him, he's been lively. He goes off the field and
the far side. Of course, you have these ten second rule now for subs. Where better get on your bike, get off that field, or you'll be off for a minute. Will the player coming on the field, they'll have to wait for sixty seconds, all with the idea of just keeping the game moving, not letting time wasting happen. We'll see the Sounders here in the seventy sixth minute, Sounders still have time down two goals to one. Here, look lively in this second half. Good response from Bran Schmetz's
men. They're putting in a big shift. Maybe not what they want to going down ten men with a game up and Tuesday or bounces in. Jonathan Bond back on the field, clears it with his right foot down This near chin on the right clipped up in the air by Hopkins, click lays it back to McVeigh. Swedish players switches it out to the far side to Herrera back in the lineup tonight after serving a one game suspension due to yellow card
accumulation last week against New York City. One side the man on the ball now click. It's been really solid player for DC since his arrival from England and lead United. What goes into the foot of puad Riguez to click? DC just holding some possession Sounders in this second half, even down ten men fifty one percent possession for the Sounders was the first half. It was domination from DC in many parts. The goal for the Sounders did come in transition
as an away team. As we mentioned, your job's not to entertain jobs, to grind out results. Can the Sounders find that result? All goes in clip towards Benteke, Click flicks it over the top, challenged by Atensio, still has the borders. Click headed clear by Rolldn and she finds the foot of Dahome. This near side comes back to Rodriguez with a pressure from Rudiaz from behind and Hopkins sitting in the hole where cut off the bench.
McVeigh plays it across all the way to Ethan Bartlett to Herrera, challenged by Cody Bake on the left back spot. DC holding some good possession in the Sounders half of the field, but the sound as well organized holding strong five yards outside they're eating yard. Box ball goes in cleared by Vargas, picked up by Rouznek, and the Sounds key possession will flick around the corner by Vargas at some point as a clear lines moment. The Sounders don't do that.
They fluff their lines. Eventually they pick it up in the middle of the park. Can they move down in transition? Now this near side the right is a Tensio picks it up. Can he play the ball down the line? He does a Vargas close down by they towards the end line, towards the Tenthio comes off Hopkins over the end line. Sounders corner kick remains DC two Sounders one steeves that corner. But it's a good attack for the Sounders. Shoing ambition here and I think at this point it's a case of
look, if we're gonna lose three one, we'll lose three one. It's zero points same as two to one. But we've got to do everything we can to try to find the equalizing goal, and that's shorn again by another attacking substitution here for the Sunders. As Rothrock comes on and the set piece of Livery has gotten better. Second, Joe Polo's last couple of balls have found a spot and you're hoping on this occasion here on this set piece, this corner kick on his right hand side, you can do the same and
give a chance to the likes of ya what to get after it. Bol Rothrock on the field those first meaningful minutes for this twenty twenty four season. The ball comes in good delivery, head it clear by Herrara. Top of the box is Roznak, plays it square to Vargas. JP stillness near side, collects the ball, whips it in off the back of Santos over the end line. Second Sounders corner kick in a row. Sounders continue to knock
on the door. Here Audi field lend fifty KGr am. It's gonna be Joe Pawell this near side, the right outswinger Again, it was good delivery just a moment ago. It was eventually cleared by DC. But these are the chances for the Sounders try to find their spot just inside the PK spot. Tensio sitting inside the sex ball gets whipped in outswing a headed clear by Beneke Rudias, just lining upper shot eventually flicked up and away by Rodriguez.
Sounders had possession Rothrock all the way back, helping his team. Is he going to play on the left hand side. We'll see how Bryan Schwitzer sets up honest player. Is Paul Rothrock of course getting that winning goal against Houston last year, or goes over the top too far for rue Diez rolls through
to Bono in the DC United goal. I al say for the Sounders the one era we've not mentioned the name Albert Rusnak nearly enough in the second half, and I think you're saying, yes, sound iss tring ambition, but it's coming from the legs of Atensio, Viiles making attacks on the right, Coldy Baker drive into the box. You need to see more from Albert Rosnik at this point. Yes, you push out to left hand side, You've got freedom, Go find the ball, get on the ball. May thing's
happened. Try to try to be the one to create something right now, just sort of throwing in and out of the game a bit too much and the team is down. You need a big player to step up. So I would love to be sending the name Albert Rusnak a lot more as a team chases equalizing goal. Bran Schmetz has challenged him, of course, mentioned it in the last couple of weeks, that this is your team. You're
ten. Now Ladero's gone, you're stepping up. Thirty five touches on the game so far for Albert Rossnak compared to as an example, Jao Power with fifty six. And that's the pressure. We've all been on both sides of it. You know, when I came in as a rookie, we had other players that you know, Freddy Lumberg was there. This is an invincible so at times the team was not looking to anyone else but him at first to just find a solution. But then you grow, you grow into an
important plant. If you want to be that kind of player, you've got one depression, Well comes out. Thomas comes out with his feet versus his hands, comes off the shins of Santos over the endline. Goal kick for the Sounders. Well sound as fans. If Sounders FC scores any time after the eighty eighth minute during a home match, you'll have the chance to win free Lasik surgery from Sharp Vision, Modern Lasic and lens. Sign up today
at soundersfc dot com slash laser focus. Get here in the eighty first minute Oudy Field in DC DC United, two Sounders one Sounders down, a man stepan Fry picking up a red card the thirty second minute of that first half. If Sounders have really responded well in this second half, dominating I don't
want to say dominating possession, but certainly over fifty percent possession. And Sounders fans don't forget the Sounders were down three goals to nil just a handful of years ago, back in twenty seventeen, I believe in the fiftieth minute and then four goals in that second half, first time ever at that point that an MLS team in regular season has come back from three goals down in normal
time to win it. Ones are probably involved rolled down fighting for position fel given by the referee this near side, just inside the DC United half for the field, Hopkins made the fowl and again these are gonna be the chances you get here in the final nine minutes of the of the second half. Yellow card for the referees. I'm throwing them around all night. It was an SGB yellow card when a fellow is called SGB trial lawyers are here to
help visit SGB dash law dot com. It's on Rodriguez saying he wasn't didn't hear the whistle free, didn't change his mind. Yellow card for the DC United midfield player who came off the bench. It's gonna be Rose Rosneck, who's gonna have the boys, Gonna roll it down the line inside the eighteen yard but strike by Atensio off the chest of Beneke and then, of course, just as it would have it based on Sounder season so far, loops up into the air straight in the hands of Bono and the DC United goal.
Well, it's not for the one of trying the desires there. We're seeing that the sound is here, really really pushing, trying to get that goal. It turns over the second time today, coming close, so good save there by Bono and it hits Benecis test and forwards perfectly back to the d United goal keepers on. But we see nothing of DC United the last fifteen minutes or so from an attacking sense. They're just trying to go over the nine. They're just trying to hold on to this two to one lead.
They're not really pushing for three to one. If it's there, they'll take it. But it's the Sounder is asking a lot of the questions right now, and still there's a lot of time in this game to go or gets clipped off the heels of DC United. Rodriguez, it's just got that yellow card. It's gonna go over the far sideline for a Sounders throw in the hands of Rothrock. We'll see how Jonathan Bell does. So far,
so good for the young man coming into the Sounder squad this year. It was a late add to the team, Nathan going down with injury late in the week, so unexpected to start from Jonathan Bell. But as you mentioned, Steve's performed well, done his job, defended well. One is headers. I just see if he can last all the way through the ninety because being your first start, yeah, sometimes it can be heavy legs that this can be. And they've had to do a lot of defending as well,
and I think for the Sounders on the whole have defended well. I think the one weakness in the first half especially was allowing that run in the inside right channel that we spoke about so much. But in terms of when crosses came in, listen, you can only do so much at times against Benake, He's gonna win what he can win. But on the whole, when it says I've had to be made, Stephan Fry made them, Andrew Thomas has made them. The team has been there. There's not much they could
do on the Benicket goal. He's made a great head on those penalty as well, and I think outside of that, this is what the Sounders have been. It's on the other side the goals when it's really dried up and you know, ten goals for the season here, but it was five in one game against Montreal. Four have been penalty. So you start to see we've got to find ways to create chances and really really begin to unlook the offensive group where Fridge just going over to Andrew Thomas to have a quick word.
As the Sounders defend this free kick on the far side the right holding the top of the box of the Sounders, all ten men behind the ball, it's gonna be click. There's five yards in from the far sideline. Well whip it in with his right foot. It goes all the way through to Andrew Thomas, clicks it well, tries to spring it forward. Can he find something? Sounds You need to find a way back into this game.
Losing or down two goals to one so far against DC United, eighty fifth minute here at Audi Field. Don't leave us after the game, Jackson, Diego Brad will be back to break it all down. All gets flicked by Vargas. Try to find Ruyds sounders of course, right back on the road to take on the Philadelphia Union on Tuesday, April thirtieth at four thirty pm Pacific. Watch the match via the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen on nine to fifty kg AM and l Ray thirteen to sixty
AM in Spanish. The Providence Swedish prematch show starts at four pm. Or gets flicked around. Yamar colects the bourb and tekey, putting some pressure on far side. The left goes to Jonathan Bell who comes inside all the way across to Andrew Thomas. There's nothing more than put his foot behind it. Not a bad decision as it shifts down to the left hand side. Allows Rudy has to chase it. It goes over the sideline, but Steve,
that's not a bad way. He shifts, she lines up. Yeah, I can put pressure, give a chance to relief pressure, get your line up, force DC to play in their own defensive third. And then now they have to find a way to break up this and get back into your heartl you have to do a bit more of that, and Andrew Thomas with the right decision there, and for the Sounders as the minutes went down, you can see the team of fatigue and a little bit tiring a little bit
here, but you have to try and find that that final push. I think there can still be maybe one more big chance, at least a half chance in this game for the Sounders, whether for a set piece or just
forcing the error. Headed up in a way by McVeigh as Bonno came out panic defending by DC, but eventually take care of business as JP cushions it back to Yama, who's looked a little bit unshree with the ball at his feed at times tonight, as he did last week, gives the ball away, knocks it out of bounds, picked up by Click on the far side. The DC right in that situation, I think it will almost be automatic to go back to your goalkeeper. Just turn play the goalkeeper, start a
new play. I don't understand it's having to force a short clip it down the line with the safe don't You don't have to compete that five yard pass with three defenders around you. The fields must still try to find his footing in this season, Jackson Reagan's a little bit of a slow start relative to his high level of performances from last year. Two goals giving up in each
of the last two games for the Sounders. Across the last week against Vancouver and then tonight, ball comes into the far side towards Rothrock goes in, bounces through, Rudy has picks it up farst side, the left, five yards from the end line. Just a little bit of pressure from Herrera comes back to Bell. Good delivery header by Rasnak, saved by Bono. Good play by the sound There's good delivery from that left hand side, and it
was Rosneckhus snuck in. It was a good headed down to the goalkeepers left, but a save made by Bono and it is a good save. Russa does really well this time. He's been found himself in the box in dangerous areas like we wanted to be directed towards gold maybe just like enough power and pace behind it. He gives Bono a chance to get down and get a big hand to it. It was a great ball in by Bell and the
sound was doing what they'd done in the second half. It's really asked a lot of question of DC United get a ball into the box, just haven't been able to convert one of these many chances to get created. All goes back to Andrew Thomas again puts his foot behind it. Not a bad decision because the Sounders got a second ball and now you're off to the races again. And this is what's works for the sound It's the kind of game where
you have to be a bit ugly and they have been. Here's Vargas driving to the box because towards the end line clips it in could have gone down, it went up straight up. Bono ready well collected it from the cross of the cutback, but the homemade looked like he was gonna come and clatter into Vargas inside the box, who had been a certainly somehow he got out
the way and Steve, you've been a winger. You step inside and take it, and I think the hormide must just really pull out there at the last minute, because it looked like it looked for sure that's what the player's going to be seen it so many times. Vargas had the bean of him, had the momentum and the home mate that's probably gonna maybe be his last player as he goes down here cramping up. It looks like. But once
Vargas got past that, that's what you need. Quality And in that moment there you fizz one across the ground because it can even hit the fender running towards the own goal going to the box. When you lift it in the air, you give the goalkeeper an easy way up as we approached an inside the ninetieth minute. Now here at Audi Field, DC United, two Sounders, one Sounders down a man after the thirtieth minute red card of Stephan Fry
and the score update is presented by Provident Swedish. Just see that replay from Vargas. Look like the home it came across pulled out, as Steve mentioned, just outside the box. Actually Bargas held his ground. He actually found himself a great spot inside the eighteen yard box of the end line, just as you mentioned, just couldn't find that cutback along the ground and for the sound is now you're looking at just how much time we're going to get here.
You think of the amount of subs that have been made. Don't be any major injuries. There's too many stoppages. We had nine in the first half, which was who felt generous, So we'll see we'll get here in the second half. But the clock taking down time looking to be against the Sounders at this point, but they've definitely come close and at least a couple
of occasions just haven't been able to convert one of those chances. But we'll get an opportunity here as another files committed and just set pieces get into the box. Great confusion, of course, chaos. There's a fell on russneck farst side the left, gives a sound as another chance to put some decent
delivery in. Steve mentioned to Home's last contribution was that almost fell on Vargas he goes off the field, Christian Fletcher, former U nineteen use US youth team player comes on the field some fresh legs and these final minutes six minutes at a time, so there's time for the sound Lady crept past the ninety minute mark. Full house here at Audi Field mentioned the drums have been missing for first part this season. They're back tonight with the supporters of DC United
in full voice. All comes in from JP. Good delivery, good headed by young Subage. Just came on the field. Click's gotta chase it down. Good challenge by Vargas, but does go over the end line to burn off a couple of valuable seconds for DC United. As we approach the final five minutes of the game, DC United up two goals to one, two unanswered goals by Christian Benteke six goals on his season coming into tonight's game. Three of those were from an opening game hat trick here at Audi Field from
two games two goals tonight or gets launched by Bono. Messing around from DC United at this point, just clearing the lines. Sounders continue to come with JP. Just wriggles free middle of the Park's gonna wriggle pass. Rodriguez is gonna get pulled down through the legs of Hopkins. Well played by JP. That's the type of drive you need for your senior players. Rosnack picks it up middle of the field, comes right to Christian rolled On whips it in.
Good ball, headed up in the bono is gonna collect? Challenged by roth Rock, fell given by the referee on the goal line. Arra just grabbing the arm of Rothrock. I think roth Rock, Steve has got every right. He's right, absolutely, it's nothing Ministers there he jumps up right trying to win the ball. I don't know how much contact he makes a bondo here we'll see a replay. But that was a great type by the Sounders, I think from Joe Parlow. Really just determination and great to keep
the ball. Aubut Rustlin playing, He's part of their good ball in my Christian rolled On Raul couldn't quite get first to it. But as this ball's bounced into air by the DC Night back line here, why should rough go for this? Yeah, it's a foul, but that's it. Rothrock getting his first minutes of the season. The ball comes in it you're just watching this replace Barler knocked it up in the air, nothing more than a little shove and no knows some good good play acting. Yeah, rolled around on
the floor for five minutes after that. I'm not never being a fan of it, to be honest, if you're gonna think, you know you want to protect goalkeepers, but there's not much in that as well. It's a foul. Enough of them get here in the It was the three minutes of the six added on here at Audy Field. Sound is still training one goal
down a man, but have looked good in this second half. Whatever happens in these final three minutes, Brinchmas can be proud of his team's response the face of adversity coming to the second half last week with disappointment relative to the result and the performance some of the decisions made. But tonight the Sounders continue to press. Or gets hooked clear by McVeigh, challenged by attend You're picked up by Vargas who just launches it up into the air inside the box.
Rudi has get nudged in the back by Santos. Can he find it? Santos with his left foot clears it to this near sight, eight yards from the corner flag picked up by the Sounders. Cody Baker's off the field. Can't get that long throw. It's gonna go short this Sound Jpeter Vargas, He's gonna come back to a Rosnek. Good opportunity to play the ball in. He's gonna drive forward, finds Vargas in the middle of the six yard boxes. Christian roll done and he had to guide it into the far corner
from all of six yards. Goal was gaping fluffed. This shot finds the chest of Bono and his safe hands and that was a great chance Steve zac quarney for the Sounders. It's the best chance in the game. It's a really good attack again from the Sounds. A lot of credit for how the Sounders have pursued pursued the Gold in the second half. Vargas does really well as is for US Nike. And again we saw Christian all Dane I think
it was in Dallas couple weeks ago, in front of Gold. The confidence isn't quite there because that's when you seen him in the past, strong side for bottom corner Gold. Nothing the goal keeper can do and he just doesn't get good contact. Ball ends up bouncing up in the air and that maybe that half chance is talk about the Sounders waiting on and that was more than
a half chance. It's a big one and we've talked about you know, that just feels like it sums up the Sound of season just can't execute the final third and normally getting done. Yeah, it's a playsure nomally think of christ Will Dons be so reliable. What the player has been here for the Sound is just an incredible servant and you want that chance fall into someone that game. If not really Dias, then Christian will done. Albout us Night,
those are the guys you want both of our chances. They're none bigger than Christians, but just couldn't get a contact. And oh it's a big one final minute here at Audi Field. He's united up two goals to one. Can the Sound has found an equalizing goals. The balls flicked by a tenio towards this near corner flag unnecessary pushed by Roll. Don you know Santosa went down far too easily, but right in front of the assistant of referee. It's going to be a free kick for DC as we see the final
seconds taking off the clock. Disappointing night, Steve, but there is some things to be It FLEs different to the to the Vancouver White Cups lost because I think at least for the Sounders say you've battled in a second half created a ton of chances, not just a tider game. You could have maybe
won the game. And I think in the last twenty minutes we've not seen at the same AMBITIOUSDC United team as a team that's been holding on to what they have, happy to get away with two to one, not looking for anything more than that. And I think for the Sounds, yes, it's disappointing, but there are nuggets you can take from this into Tuesday's game, which absolutely becomes a must win Tuesday. You have to get something for that game, at least a draw, but a win and a good performance.
Anything less than that and you're looking at two defeats on the road, one win out of ten, and that is not a position any of us, for the Sounds, would be in. We're filled out for UNI. Losing two goals so on tonight that home against Royal so late their first loss of the season. Is that gonna give the Sounders well opening to go in there and the Tours a difficult place to play under Jim Curtin. Sounder is happy. It's near side the right. Is it gonna be one final chance?
So we take by the six minutes already as JP launches it, long Ridia is running onto the ball, just a little cushioned Heather can he sneak the ball. Herrera comes back, find Bonner, goes back to the DC United goalkeeper. He slices it up, launches it long cushion down to Herrera to Hopkins, who turns out a pressure already passed the sixth minute mark, here went to additional added time on the sixth held by the referee. As the ball goes down the line to Stroud was found by Stephan Fry for his red
card. Yemar ta Bell who knocks it long, clips forward towards Ethan Bartlett, clips off the heel of Rui Diez, and I think that will be that the referee puts his whistle in his mouth, blows the whistle and unfortunately for the Sounders, what looked like such a promising start here in DC really turned in that first half. It was a goal by Leo Chu in the first half in the fourteenth minute to put the Sounders up one Golton Ill and then it was a one to two punch Stephan Fry getting a red card after
Stroud knocked it around him inside the eighteen yard box. He got his march orders Beneke the six, gold Man stepped up scored the penalty, and then just before the halftime he rose up on the back post and powered the header to get the winning goal and DC United to move on with three points. Steve, your final thoughts, yeah, I think for the Sounders listen, you can dress up nice and say the team short ambition, second half, came out fighting for it. You can't feel sorry for yourself in terms of
we lost missus to an injury. Stephan Fry gets the red card, will force the substitutions, and then the big picture is it's a defeat and you've got to at some point find a way to get your season back on track because the way EMNS is going now, the league's only getting better. The top teams are pulling away. You have got to find a way to pick up results. Go recover, be sad about tonight, wake up tomorrow and focus on Tuesday, because that becomes absolutely It's a final. It's a massive
game, just for even even for more Ralph's sick. It's a game you have to win. Well. Thanks to everyone involved in today's broadcast. Keeley Donning here in the booth, Kevin k is always for his great information and of course to Sounder's legend Steve's Qwani. Sounders are going to be on the bus heading north to Philadelphia to play at the Union on Tuesday night. Can they there find a valuable and important three points to get their season on track.
We'll take a short break, Jackson, Phelps, Diego and Brad will be back to break it all down. But from Aldifield here in the Nation's capital, it finishes DC United two Sounders one. Welcome to the Sounders FC postmatch Show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The
Sounders FC postmat Show starts now. Well. Unfortunately for your Sounders it is a two to one loss at DC United. As Christian Bentechi scores two goals, Stefan Frau gets a red card and we are left with a Sounders second consecutive loss here in the Nation's capital. Tonight, Jackson Feltz, Brad Evans GEO audio here for the postmatch show as we break down the two to one loss and what all happened, and you know, as we begin, we'll
get into, you know, the officiating in our next segment. I think there's a lot to discuss there, and Brad, you have some really interesting terminology to discuss about. But just overall, the last forty five minutes that we just watched, I think the two to one is especially frustrating, and it's a bit more frustrating in a context than the Vancouver game last week because this team Brad in the last forty five minutes, played so well, had
lots of opportunities. A point was there for the Rave Green in this one. Yeah, I mean, you wouldn't have known that the Sounders were playing a man down in that half. It may have looked like DC was playing a man down or maybe even two. But that's a mentality that we talked about last week at halftime that the Sounders needed to take into the second half. It doesn't matter if you're a man down. If everyone gives that little bit extra effort, you can find yourself still in good positions. And last
week it was the woe was me attitude. This week was, oh, we saw this seven days ago, and we know we talked about it probably after the game that if we give maximal effort, there's still something there. If it was three nothing, it'd be different, right, You're just trying to get a little something. Matter of fact is that's not a very good DC team, and the Sounders had high quality chances in that in that second half, three or four good chances to put the ball in the back of
the net. And at the end of the day, it's about having that finishing touch and the Sounders just have not found it this year and they get punished for it for you know, two I mean mistakes in the in the first half, and they find themselves again on the wrong side of a result despite playing really well. Schmeetz will go into that at the end of the game, saying, I cannot fault your effort. I can't fault even the way that you played at all. Right, everything was good in that second
half. They didn't give them any opportunities at all. You could see it almost a defeated DC team. They didn't celebrate after the game. It was like, thank god, that game's over with, right, and that's not usually the sign of winning a game at all. Yeah, No, I
take. My take is especially second half the way they played, not the attitude, but also I think the football we saw, right, and also the camaraderi and every play they were fighting and DC United I think I I was expecting at this unit actually different to come and just you know, try to score one more goal and just you know, get the game. Because
they had the advent that one more player. But at the end of the day, I was really surprised with with Seattle that and I'm not surprising in a sense that and Brad you've been there right in halftime, especially after losing, losing to one, having seven private red cards, like okay, this is is now or never, right, we're down, we need to do
something, and they showed. I think, now, besides the result, it's it's a it's a good symptom of having that against now thinking about the next game, we'll talk about it, but I think at least it's it's even though it's a loss, it ends on a good note with that good good play and yeah, unfortunately you know Christian could have put it in.
And also there were so many chances. But at the end of the day, I think you have to take those little wins and those little details of this game for the next game that that really you need to close and get get the points. At the end of the it was such a massive opportunity for Christian rold On there and added time and russ Knack had Rusnak had a header that you got, saved two and you had a ten to off the
post. I mean, so many chances that one. But Brad, it really does feel like and kind of take us into that locker room coming off of a loss, it does feel like there will be a lot more fuel to the fire to get a result in Philadelphia than there was fuel coming out of the Vancouver Fire into this match. The guys should be feeling, I don't know, confident going into Philadelphia like that. They they played so well
even a man down question. Look in the locker room, you're asking yourself, we still haven't put together a full team performance where we've had eleven v eleven this entire season. Right, the Montreal game was a red card and they're often running and they punish them. So we are still yet to see the best of this Sounders team. Well, I think a lot of the league has found their stride and they're off and running. So the question is
is it too late? I don't think it's too late. It's going to be a dogfight to push thrue summer and to push into the latter ends of the and there's still something left and that has to motivate the guys too. The season isn't over just yet, right, there's still that you asked was twenty sixteen the same as now. Yeah, it was different because basically we thought that the season was over and we're playing for pride at that point. Well, right now, there's still something to be had in the season.
So I think at the end of this game they're thinking we should have gotten a point out of that. Versus Vancouver was we made dumb decisions and we got punished for him. I don't think there was too much of that tonight. I think really you can take some positives from the way that we played in the second half. You can't take positives from the results. It's a loss again, It's another loss in the category and that's how we are determined if we make the playoffs or not. And who has a job and who
doesn't have a job. Right, it's not because you play good soccer and you're losing games. At the end of the day, it's about getting results. So little bit of positivity to take from the way we played, but still it's a loss. We're back in the lost column. Yeah, well, those Sounders will try to get into the back into the wind calm in
Philadelphia on Tuesday. Well this season when the Sounders win, and they will win again and ready for it. Yeah, Sounders falling back to back Vancouver last week in DC United this week, but it is time for Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match. The Sounders started this match
great. They looked fantastic before the red card to Stephen Frye and the big play of the match, but in that first half hour was the goal from Leo Chu for us like inside the box fines Jordan Morris whipsl on the six job box back of the net Leo Chu watch us stop by the Sounders And that's exactly what Brian Schmidtz asked for his team a response from last week,
and they give it here in d c DC United nil Sounders won. The Play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. I also want to mention that Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Jackson Felz, Brad Evans Diego audio here on the postmatch show. And let's go back to the officiating
decisions because there's a couple to discuss here. The first is the obvious red card to Stephan Fry, so let's hit on that first, and then we'll hit on the play at the start of the second half that we believe should have resulted in a Seattle penalty. Brad, you found the language regarding dogsow denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity and which is what they ruled for Stephan
Frye penalty for DC as well as the red card to Stephan Frye. But it's the language that's very interesting regarding if Steph actually deserved a red Yeah. So clarification from longtime Sounders fan supporter Paul Cox wrote me a long text message referee as well, I believe so if it's violent conduct or serious foul play, it's absolutely a red card. Right. But as a ref you go through the four d's direction of play, defenders, if they're defenders there distance
to the ball, will it get to it distance the goal? So if there is successive force, that was the big question from Steph arguing with the fourth with the fourth referee, so if it's a trip like you stabbed at it but missed and kicked him or tripped him, then it should be downgraded. Right, That's that's his opinion, And I'm sure you know going over all these rules in and out, it's it's an extremely long text. But that's why Steph was arguing, right, he actually does make it, he
knows that the player's there. But if he's saying I am actually trying to make a play on the ball, which he does, he sticks his hands out in the direction of where the ball's going. If he had grabbed him and pulled him down, way different. He's not making a play on the ball and he's already on the ground, So yes, that's that is a red card, but in this situation, it's got to be a yellow card. So he thinks the club should consider fighting fighting this one and seeing it
can get over tearing. Now it doesn't matter because Andrew Thomas has to start versus Philly anyway, Stephan Fry would be out for the Galaxy game next Sunday, which is a big one. And you know Andrew Thomas extremely well, but there's something to be said about having Steph in that lineup, right, So it's got to be a play for the ball and it's and it's pretty strict, and I think he does but he although he does take out the player, but it's not dangerous. It's not excessive force. To me,
it's not a red card. Give the penalty, give a yellow card, get on with the game. He is a Sounder. I'm a Sounder fan. I'm always going to side with the Sounders, and I think it's crap. But you are very impartial, obviously, you know you're an MS Season Pass Apple TV broadcaster, If you're calling that match as an impartial broadcaster, what's your take on it? Yeah, I mean it's uh to me. It just shows in general how the referee today tonight was was calling the game.
So it was pretty pretty soft in a lot of the yellow cards and in particular in display. I mean, sadly, I'm not surprised that he brought the red card, but I agree with Brady in terms of not being aggressive because at the end of the day, yeah, it's a foul, and you Stanford, he's just trying to, you know, touch or hit the layer but he was not not gonna get it right. But at least he wanted to, you know, just a little tap for the play.
But he's not aggressive. I think a yellow card because I think is Steph does commit the foul, he knows it. If if he thinks it's going to be a red card, I think he pulls out of it and at least lets him try and score a goal. Might as well take a goal and keep eleven players on the field, versus Steph saying, oh, if I take him down, I know, I know it's going to be a
red card. Yeah, because I think in that point, right, if it's going to be an automatic red, then you don't make the funt, let him, You and I end up with ten players and then a goal. So it's to me the he can set a bad president in that sense, right, Well, how can you then the goalkeepers and say, okay, I'm not going to go for the I'll just let him walk by the next right exactly instead of getting a record, How can one play change that?
I mean one play. It's a penalty plus a red card. It's just the whole point of dogsow is to eliminate that, right because if it's a yellow card, right, because he's actually making a play, it's not excessive. That's up to the referees discretion. So I just think that the referee got it wrong. And it's not to say that it didn't come from an error in the back line. Like everything happens in a domino effect in soccer, it's not just Steph's fault. It's not just a referee's fault.
But that's why the referee is there, is to make sure that these plays and and you know, ultimately sending off are you know, egregious or following the rules. Now, the interesting thing is to reference a comment you just made Diego. It kind of showed how he was calling the match. In the first forty five minutes, everything was getting a yellow, right, But then in the first couple of minutes of the second half, we see Cody Baker make a run down the left. He's gonna he gets into the box,
and then Aaron Herrera puts two hands on Cody Baker's back. Looks like he gives them a little bit of a shove. Cody Baker's goes down. No fouls called, no penalty for the Sounders. So if you are calling the match that tight and everything deserves a yellow, how does that not even get a foul Brad, which would have been a penalty. I think from the referees angle, it's hard to see. I think Herrera's body is blocking
the referees view to see if there are even two hands on it. But then what's the point of var But then VR has to be one hundred percent certain that it is a penalty kick for it to be overturned. So we're going to talk about this for the next ten or fifteen years until there's robots in AI that determined the sacked rules. Of the game and follow it, you know, to a t But it's these little nuances that it's up to
the referees discretion. I I'm not sure that it's a it's a p K. If i'm DC, I think that's a soft p K. But again I think it's it's a PK for sure. On the sounders it's it's just not a red card. Yeah. To me, about we're talking about during the broadcaster is that there's no consistency then from the referee, right, because if it's a I agree it could be a soft pek, but then if you already gave a red card for Stephan Fries's foul, this should be a
penalty, right, Also if you see all the other yellow cards. So at the end of the day, Yeah, it's hard to see from the referee, but I think in the in the repetition you see there's definitely you know, there's contact and there's one there's contact. It's always gonna be supposed to be a p K, right, based on the on the rules. Right, if you're an attacker and you have the ball, I'm always looking for contact in the box and a chance to go down to get a penalty
kick. This is why you get into the box. And so it's actually if I'm making my way towards goal, yeah, if I'm going away from goal, it's a little bit more difficult, but I'm slicing at the goal. I would I would have I would have to be certain that I have one hundred percent advantage to get the cross off for me not to go down
if I feel a leg or a push. If Cody Baker is in his own box, you know, going towards the middle of the field around the same kind of cornered element, and he has two hands on his back and goes down, that's a foul one hundred times out of one hundred times. I actually think that's a good point. Yeah. So if Cody's in his own box and he feels pressure from an attacker and he pushes him, how
many times did we see that tonight? Fro on Christian roll Don the slightest little touch on Pedro at the end of the game, and it's and it's a foul. So yeah, we could be on here until a thirty week count of clock. We can do and still be done. Well, let's take a break. We'll come back and look ahead to what's next for the Sounders. It's a match that resumes in the sixth minute. We'll tell you what's ahead in Philadelphia next on Sports Radio nine to fifty kJ R AM.

Sports Radio nine fifty KJR wrapping up the postmatch show following a Sounders two to one last tonight in the Nation's capital to DC United. Let's take a look ahead at what's
next for your Sounders. It's going to be a match on Tuesday that will resume in the sixth minute. This is a match from March ninth in Philadelphia that was rained out against the Union, so that match will resume coming up at four thirty right here Sports Radio nine to fifty kr AM. This coming Tuesday, we'll have a provident Swedish re pre match show starting at four pm. You know, so watch the match on MS Season Pass on the Apple
TV app and listen to Spanish language on l Ray thirteen sixty. But we'll have it at four pm and preview with the kind of a resumed match that weirdly let's get to the delta starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday. We already know the lineup is Rolls on the field, Jordan's on the field, Christians on the field, Leo chu Obed Vargas, Josh Attencio, Alex
Chroldan, Yamar Gomez, Androti was on the bench. He'll slide in for a Javier Ariyaga, who is traded Jackson Reagan and then I knew who's your
left back, and Andrew Thomas is your goalkeeper. There's the starting lineup, so Brad, it will be a good match with a very very good lineup on the field for Brian Schmenzer. Yeah, look, it's one that the Sounders hopefully will get a result because it's a Philly Union lineup that I think is a little bit mixed because they were anticipating the Champions Cup whatever it's called now, Champions League coming up. So it's an opportunity for the Sounders to
get a result against a team that's only lost now two games since the start of the twenty twenty three season at home, so only one game last year they lost and they just lost the night against Rail Salt Lake. So you better bet that the Sounders will be watching what Rail Salt Lake did well tonight and then hope for a quick turnaround. But this is not a team that loses at home often right dates back probably to twenty twenty two also, so
it's a very good team at home. It's a good squad. Jim Curtins seams since twenty eighteen, has had that team turned around completely since he took over. They've made runs deep in into the playoffs in the last couple of years, and it's a team to be feared. But at the same time, the Sounders showed with ten men tonight in the second half that they can do good stuff away from home and actually play and hopefully that carries over into
that match with some fresh legs against Philly on Tuesday night. Yeah, they need to take that attitude and that soccer from the second forty five minutes we saw tonight. It's gonna be a tough game. Obviously, Philadelphia is one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Besides losing tonight, they're really really solid and they have they have depth to right and they show it and that's that's why they been playing international competitions and they've been also one of the
best teams in MLS. But I think it's also to me Seattle Sounders that they really need to at least get a point out of this game, like there's no no way to get another loss, because it's to me, it's already getting to that point. And we're talking about this during the pregame show that we didn't know if it's too late to sound the alarm. But I think after tonight's loss, then you know we're closer to like we really the Sounders really need to wake up. Otherwise there's no there's gonna be a lot
of even though it's a long season. The damage has already been done, right, and it's gonna be really hard to climb up. But I think, Phily again, it's it's it's a team that's vulnerable, even though rather to your point that they're really good at home, but you know, they show tonight that they're not, you know, invincibles, right, so they think they can lose. And to Diego's point, I think the Sounders now have to stop thinking about winning games and just winning halves of soccer games.
Right, Take what you did tonight in the second half, scratch the first half and carry that on to the next match and try to string together three, four, five, six, seven, eight consecutive forty five minute halves and just focus on winning that half. That forty five minutes and plus whatever it's gonna be nine minutes of stoppage time on the end of a so fifty five minutes of a first half, right, So I I think that's the
way that the attitude has to come. Okay, let's carry this second half in the effort the way that we played, and then let's just focus on the first forty five in Philadelphia and try to get a result just in that half, and then we'll worry about the second half when we regroup that halftime and let Schmidz and the guys talk about tactics. Then wake up win a half. I can't improve on any of those points. Great stuff out of
everybody tonight. A great call from Danny Jackson, Steve Zachwani, Kighy Dunning, our broadcast director here, Mitchell Bli our board op great thank you both, Diego Audio, Brad Evans appreciate it.
