Welcome to the Sounders FC pre match Show presented by Provident Swedish. Tonight, your Seattle Sounders FC faced Sporting Kansas City. The Provident Swedish premat show starts now. Well, the busy month of May is over and after a five to one in three stretch in their last nine games, your Seattle Sounders have moved on to the month of June, which begins with a road match tonight

against Sporting Kansas City, a team that has lost seven consecutive games. They are not on a good note, but look to get on the right one here tonight against your Seattle Sounders. So welcome in to the Sounders FC pre match Show presented by Provident Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. Jackson felt alongside Pete viewing for the next half hour as we count you down to kick off and then it'll be Danny Jackson and Steve Zachawani on the call for

Sounders and Sporting Kansas City from Children's Mercy Park. Pete. As we begin the broadcast, I mean the Sounders had a little bit of a mini break. They played basically every two games a week for the last I don't know, five six weeks, it feels like, and then now finally they get a little time off. The game against Columbus was rescheduled to September because Columbus had to go lose the Conker CAF Champions Cup Final. Thank you to Columbus

by the way. But you know, I think this mini break for the Sounders has been interesting. Some guys did different things. Some guys went down to California, some guys stayed here with their families. It was a nice refreshing, it seems mental break for a lot of guys on this roster. Yeah, and what that translates to is I expect ninety minutes of hard work that they're going to come out and perform. Yes, that was a thirty plus day ten game window that was really tough. You could feel it tired

in the legs, the traveling and all that. But now they've got a fresh group and they've got there pretty much the lineup that they would like to have for sure, maybe without new who, but it's a good lineup and you're going against a team I always remember Brian saying when he was an assistant coach, he doesn't like playing against desperate teams. This is a desperate,

desperate Kansas City team. They're fourteenth in the table and as you said, they've just been one of the zero eight and two zero eight and two in the last ten and I haven't one in five, so and that's tough. And that's Peter Vermes you know, he's the coach and he's the GM. So I can imagine that they're getting pretty tight around that organization. And those are the teams Brian doesn't like to play. But to your point, this is a well rested team. They got a few days, they got four

days off, and now they should come out flying. I know there's a lot of things to get to but since you brought it up and we're talking about it interestingly, Peter Vermeiz, who you're right is, basically, you know, he kind of runs everything out there in Sporting Kansas City, all but ownership. And there was an interview with the owner of Sporting Kansas City and Peter Remy signed an extension last year because what happened was Casey, just

like this year, had a terrible start of the season. They had a lot of injuries, they stormed back, made the playoffs, got a huge first round upset win over Saint Louis and it looked like, okay, Case is back, but Peter Vermeis gets a big extension and this year now they're you know, falling apart again and Peter Vermis has signed through twenty twenty eight. So they asked the owner, is he on the hot seat at all? No, Peter Remiz is not on a hot seat. But it makes

you wonder. I mean, two consecutive seasons, you know, yes, one because of injuries, but this is a just terrible start, and it's interesting that the owner would say there's no hot seat whatsoever. I know, Peter Vermis has done amazing things in Sporting Kansas City. But you know, just regardless of the points over the years, you look at the trophies there, there hasn't been a lot recently. And then now two consecutive years with

two consecutive very bad starts. Well, and they've got an aging team right now. Yes, And your point about last year they got healthy and then they went on a tear is right. Well, they've been healthy pretty much all for the most part this year, but the players maybe six months too long with with the clubs. So and that's been a comment you know, we've we've heard that. So and Peter Vermis You know, I I like

Peter quite a bit. Actually he's a competitive guy. And uh, he and Brian they go, you know, to fistic cuffs, right and they go after each other. And and no, people, he did not just give you inside information that a fight did not happen. You continue, good for you to think you're the pro. Uh and and so but he's he's a competitor and uh uh, but it wouldn't surprise me in this situation at some point where maybe he doesn't lose his coaching jumb but maybe they bring in

more help for him in building the team. And because again they've got an aging group right now. So but all that aside, I'm fired up for this game because Seattle, we're in tenth place right now. A win maybe can push us into ninth place, can't get us into eight. But we've got to get going and we've just had ten days off. So it's going to be interesting to see what kind of energy we get out of the squad. We need to get good energy. We're not playing it at you know,

high altitude. We're not playing in freezing cold weather. It's warm there in Kansas City tonight. But it should be a good game for the guys and they should feel you know, we flew with the team on one of the last games and you could just tell that guys getting on and off the plane were banged up, right, And so now hopefully we're not banged up

and we'll get a great performance from the sco. No, it's a great chance to just get mentally right after such a brutal stretch where there were eight games in the month of May, so many midweek matches, and now you get a week and a half to kind of just refresh the brains, especially coming off of a game against Reality saw Lake at home, which listen, you know, if you're a Sounder fan, you're listening, you remember what happened. You know, you're leading one nothing think we it was two,

and then bout being about forty seconds later it's one to one. That's just it's as frustrating as you're gonna get. Got to stop exactly exactly, so, oh geez, don't even get me started on that one. But you know, that's that's the worry. We're sixteen games into the season and you say, okay, what's the DNA of this team. We've had Sounder teams that have scored late. The crowd knows it, the players know it, the opponents know it. This DNA right now is that you know, you

play till the end of stoppage time. If you're playing against the Sounders, because of late, they begin giving up a goal. So they've got to get away from that. And that's why I would love for the Sounders to go into the ninetieth minute leading to nothing this time, because that would be much better on my heart health for sure. But you talk about, you know the conditions, it's not at elevation Kansas City currently eighty four degrees.

By the way, there is a special deal and I'm going to emphasize the word deal going on in Kansas City today at Children's Mercy Park where this game is. And this is quite the deal. I really got to hand it to Kansas City. And I'm trying to lay on as much sarcasm as I can here. Their concessions deal of the match at Children's Mercy Park. Enjoy a Dasani water tonight for five dollars. Five dollars is their deal of the match for water. I don't know, maybe if it's eighty four degrees out.

Your deal should not cost five dollars for a bottle of water, just a tip Children's Mersey Park, Sporting Kansas City. Maybe your deal should be, like, I don't know something that's necessary to live, two dollars three dollars an odd choice there for your deal of the match. I don't think

that's very much of a deal, Kansas City. But alas, the Sounders have as much water as they need tonight at Children's Mercy Park for the match Agains Kansas City kickoff just about twenty minutes away here on Sports Radio nine to fifty am. Let's get to the action on the field. Let's get to what we're gonna watch here today. Pete Fewing, let's jump in and let's get to Brian Schmescher's Delta starting eleven. Well, it's a good lineup for

this squad. For Brian, it's Stephen frying Goal as your captain. You're right back is Alex rolled On. Gomez Andrade and Reagan are your center backs. Read Baker Whiting gets his first start in the middle of the park Obed Vargas and JP and the right hand side, it's Christian rolled On Jordan Morris on the left. Albert Rusnik will sit under Raoul ruy Diaz. Yeah, about the strongest lineup you could ask for from from Brian Schmetzer. Quickly,

we'll get into the Providence Swedish team health report. Nathan out with the upper quad injury, Jonathan Bell out with the hamstring. Two players questionable brod Diler Rodriguez upgraded to just questionable for the Sounders, so that's good news. And then also Pedro de la Vega. He didn't make the trip, but Pedro de Levega is still questionable. He's day to day per Brian Schmitzer. So we're still waiting on Pedro de la Vega. We hope he can be back

and be playing some Sounder soccer and Rave Green very soon. Today's team health report is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. And you know you mentioned really quickly off the top that knew who is out today, as is Stuart Hawkins, both of them on international duty. Hawkins with the USA U nineteens. He appeared I believe in a win for the US

on Thursday Friday. And then also should you mentioned knew who he played with Cameroon today and a big congratulations to new Who who scored a goal in a four to one Cameroon win today. Knew Who got a header goal, so congratulations to him. I can only imagine how high on life he's riding right now. You just awesome for new Who to get that goal there for Cameroon. But because he's with Cameroon, Pete, this is a massive opportunity here

for Reed Baker Whiting, who is now healthy. He's looked good. He had that great run in what could have been the second goal for the Sounders against RSL. Great to see RBW back in the starting lineup. Yeah, he's got a real high sight. And it's interesting because it could have been Cody Baker, right, Cody Becker's put some time in there. But what that tells me is that Brian sees more than we see. We all understand

that for sure, but that they like him. And we know you and I were talking before we came on that Wolves was in town a year ago looking at him. I don't know if we can say that. Can we say that, sure we can, Yeah, But clubs from around the world have been looking at him, Yes, right, A few clubs, and so it's a great opportunity for him. And his run against RSL was great

and he had one like that last year as well. So he tight rope down the sideline right, and so it's interesting to see what he's going to do tonight. I hope he gets himself forward. I hope he gets crosses in. I hope he gets on the end of crosses. But he like Cody Baker, these young kids man, they're confident, right, and they want to make and Brian Schmitzer, if he does a good job right, he will get to He might. I'm not going to say he will.

He might get a chance to stay on that field, and that's what they're looking for. Little competition on the out back. Outside backspots important absolutely, And we'll talk more about Kansas City in a little bit, but you look at it attacking unit in case and yes, again seven straight losses eight and two in their last ten not good. But they still have talent in there. Mamo Rodriguez, who's been an MLS it feels like for twenty years,

is starting for them today. Eric Tommy who leads them with four goals, Johnny Russell, the always dangerous, the Captain, Johnny Russell, Alan Palito, Daniel Shallowy. I mean you think back to to read Baker Whiting when he started, and remember when we went to Nashville, Tennessee, and he had the start against Nashville facing you know, a really good attack in Nashville

that day and just shut it down and looked excellent. And it's not only what Reid can do on the offensive end, because we know he can get up, we know he has very good pace, but he has become a very good defender as well. And to your point about competition, if he starts to show that he can, you know, be a good to great good defender at least and then a great attacker, that's got to push New because we know New is elite in one category and not as good in the

other. Yeah, no question. And you know he's he's not afraid to get stuck in. He's a lot. He's got a bit of a longer stride than Cody Baker, so he can when he gets going and gets some forward. And again the confidence piece for me is what I like. He's not afraid to play a good entry ball, to try something, not afraid to shoot, not afraid to get and is crossing I think is pretty darn

good for as young as he is. There's a couple of other topics about what Seattle is doing offensively that I want to get to here a little bit later in the pre mat show, but we got to take a break and talk about Kansas City is We are just under twenty minutes away from kickoff at Children's Mergency Park in Kansas City, where again you can get into Sawny Water for the low, low price of five dollars. Well done with that.

Today's condowt a kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest. We'll take a break and talk about what on the field sporting Kansas City is putting out today. That's next on Sports Radio nine to fifty KRM. In this week's Marketers Report, Chris Brand, Chief marketing Officer Chapotlan, Mexican Grill weighs in on the power of audio, specifically audio influencers. Audio has been a key component for us. Our consumer is omni channel,

so we need to be omni channel. We've used audio to reinforce what we're showing on TV, what we're showing in other digital channels. When your priority is driving reach boy, everybody seems to listen to the radio. I think using the audio influencers has been a huge component for us. Working with iHeart we were able to really tease out the audio influencers in key markets that were authentic Chipotle fans, and because it's authentic and because they're seen as trusted friends

by the customers and the listeners, it's really been an effective strategy. Welcome back Providence, Swedish premach show, Jackson feltsp fewing here count you

down to kickoff before Danny Jackson Steve Zach one. We have the call Sounders Sporting Kansas City from Children's Mercy Park again where you can get a water for five dollars. It's the deal of the day. I'm not sure how water is five dollars and a deal at the same time, but Kansas City seems to have figured it out, so I guess writing it down in my notes right now. We continue on here and we talk about. Listen, the team that's on the field and case we talked about a little bit last segment.

Pete is one that is not good right now. Seven straight losses. They're eight and two in their last ten. Yes, they've moved forward and in US Open Cups, so you know, factoring that in okay, But really right now, it's been rough eleven points right now in the Western Conference. They're tied for the bottom. Their last win was on March thirtieth, so more than a couple months ago, March thirtieth against Toronto. Pete. This is a team we brought it up in the first segment. We can

bring it up again. That is desperate right now. They're hungry right now and they need to do something to turn around their stretch. They did it last year in Seattle in a similar situation. They came here in a similar stretch and beat the Sounders. So Seattle needs to make sure what happened here last year doesn't happen there tonight. Yeah, those all those comments make me nervous, right because every team is looking to reboot and get started somewhere.

There is an intense rivalry between this group. I'd almost give this group top three of rivalries with against Seattle at Portland. I don't know who would be number two. Good conversation, actually, I'd say Kansas City's right up there as far as the competitive spirit between these two teams, And so Peter Vermes and company would love nothing more than to turn it around at home against these Seattle Sounders. And you're right, you know Palito and Russell Tommy, they've

got goals, right, So Russell can always score. He's a little low this year two goals. Pallito's got three. But you know we only have two guys with more than one goal, right, Raoul and Jordan Morris. So when you're saying all those things, I get it. But this league we've heard for since two thousand and nine. This is a league that on any day, any team could beat any other team, and it can ignite

a team to climb up the table. So Seattle can't look past this, I know, and and Brian did a good job of making sure everybody knows the history of late and to not look past this game. When we were talking to him this morning, that's one of the things I asked him was last year they were in a similar bad stretch, and what we just mentioned they came here and changed the whole thing, you know, and ignited the

run that got them to the playoffs. And I asked, you know, have you brought that up with the players, and he said, absolutely, we have a lot. And I love that because, you know, for most of the guys who were here on this team last year played in that game, you know, here against Kansas City. You gotta remember that. You got to know the faces across from you in Shallowy and Polito in Maymo

or Johnny Russell Eric. I mean, you got to know that these guys are the same guys that took it to you and got that win last year at your house. So you can't let that happen again. But you're absolutely right that this is a unit overall. That the numbers individually aren't high, but if Kansas City can do something well, they can score from a lot of different places. Roll has most of the goals for the Sounders. Casey has a lot of guys that have a few goals, but it shows that

they can hit you from anywhere. Yeah, from the left side with Tommy and there are four to three three, So they want to go on attack. They want to keep guys home. But they've got a group, a core group that are that are proven finishers in the league. So and you know, as I said in the last segment that you know we've been giving up late goals and you don't want that to be a part of your DNA.

This Kansas City team and that game from last year when they were struggling, is going to be top of mind for the players, especially the veteran guys that say, hey, we turned it around last year with this team, let's do it again. Now we'll do it again at home. So Seattle has got to they're going to have their hands full. I love the fact that we've had ten days off and this is coming into this game is the right time for Seattle to get their confidence. A shoutout today, A

couple of goals would be a tremendous boost for the squad. That'd be huge for Fry and huge for that defending. While we're on the topic of defending, you and we're talking about how Casey is dangerous, you're probably wondering, well, then, if they're so dangerous, why have they lost seven straight games? And how bad are they defensively? They're very bad. They've been just shipping goals like no other. Thirty one goals given up this year in

sixteen games. That's nearly two per game to Seattle's nineteen. Comparatively, Jake Davis, Andrew Fontas, Tim Leibold, Tim Melia in goal. I mean, these are guys who've played the entire season and they're starting again today. They've had a very very rough twenty twenty four. So for Sounders offensively, I mean, listen, we were hoping that things can keep going. You know, Roosknack's been I think good lately. You know, we need to

get you know, Jordan in transition obviously had that against Saint Louis. Roll can hit a wonder goal. Got to make this poor defensive unit in Kansas City pay again. So that is what we're seeing oudams board in Kansas City. We'll take a break, We'll come back and give you our Sounders FC players to watch and come. More discussion points ahead of Sounders sporting case at Children's Mercy Park will continue the premat shown next on Sports Radio nine fifty KJR

Welcome back to the Providence of premat show counting you down to kickoff here now just about fifteen minutes away. Talked all about sporting Kansas City there and that was our opponent outlook presented by Sharp Vision Modern lescon Lens, the official Lasik provider of Sounders FC peele let's dig into our players to watch tonight for Seattle. Who are you going for?

Well, I'm gonna go with Albert and the reason is he got a really nice goal in the last one. I want to see him, you know, get going and really take control of that spot. We you mentioned it earlier. This is a team that gives up a lot of goals, so I'd like to see Albert be very productive and you know, if you can get a goal and an assist, I'd like to see him really give a lot of offense of threat to us today, so and see what he

can do with Raoul. But I'm hoping that the momentum from the goal against RSL is old team carries on to this one. I got to go with Read Baker and Whiting for my player to watch, and both of these players, I think go into the same discussion point here, which is when I wanted to hit in the first segment, we didn't have time for it, which is the element of how Seattle is going to come out and start this

game, you know. He Brian Schenzer joined myself and Dave Softy Maller on a ninety three point three KJRFM on Tuesday for his weekly visit at five forty five, and and what we talked about was the element of how Kansas City is desperate and they're having such a run right now seven and straight losses. You want to kind of just get rid of their hope early, and you

want to kind of maybe play a certain way. And we asked him about that, and you know, then we kind of formulated that question into talking about his left back options with knew Who with Cameroon, and he said, you know, we think we can play more offensive. We think we can maybe, you know, and he emphasized, you know, get rid of that hope early. And I look at the way that this game can function with with knowing that Reid Baker Whiting is a very offensive player and can help

if that indeed goes that way. But if Kansas City does come out on the front foot, if they do put the Sounders back, then Rusnak has been much better in transition. Pete, we saw it against Saint Louis, and I think either way, you know, one of our players will kind of just stand be able to stand out regard or which whichever way this game goes, if Seahattle does get on the front foot, or if they have to withstand some pressure early from Kansas City. Yeah, I like your I

like your player to watch. He's gonna have to face Russell Russell is a cunning player in Rodriguez right behind him, so he's gonna have his hands fill. And Russell's also a guy who's physical right and he can use his body well read a little taller, so he's going to have to make sure his position is good and not get lost in on a restart where if he's man marking anyone, he's got to make sure he's sharp in that regard. So that's a good player to watch. And I would love to see Raoul.

He's got seven goals. He's a guy that's streaky. Get him going again as well, that'd be great. And you know, you kind of functionally look at how it's gonna run, where if if Reid gets way up the field, then Kansas City can of course counter on you. And then you look at that center back pairing. And we haven't even mentioned Jackson Reagan yet.

I think this deserves a minute to talk about another topic that I wanted to get to earlier, where in that first five minutes of the RSL game, Reagan had three giveaways, and we need to see a little bit more sharpness from Jackson Reagan. We saw him have such an amazing season last year Pete and then I feel like this season we aren't seeing the same Jackson Reagan and that last game against RSL, hopefully that is a wake up call that you know, kind of serves him to take another step and kind of,

you know, hopefully get back to the twenty twenty three level. Yeah, we're sixteen games in this today's number seventeen, and we're in tenth place. And I think there's a reason why we're in tenth place. We have not got this train out of the station and going down the track at eighty miles an hour, and right now it's a little it's not as cohesive as it was last year, and we're not getting the production as much. And you know, last year you could say gomaz Androtti and Jackson were maybe one of

the top three pairings of center backs in the league. Yep, the goals against show a different tell a different story for this year. So, yeah, he's got to be and he's gonna have it. Polito's another veteran player I'd give Jackson. Jackson's been around now a long time, so he's not going to get caught like he did his rookie year diving in as much his positioning will be better, but you're right, we need more from him,

right, and and Goma's Androtti as well. I think those two. Again, we haven't had a shutout in six games, so this would be a great night to get a shutout for the team. And everybody's got to do their job. You're again, you're playing against a team it's the bottom of the table that does not matter in Major League Soccer. No no dumb giveaways, no bad passes that go right to the other team, none of that.

Got to be on point today to keep Kansas City down and hopefully end their hope early as they look to get right from their seven straight losses. Well, Sounder fans download the McDonald's app today and when the Sounders win, you'll win a free Nick Chick in the following day with minimum two dollars purchase exclusively in the app. We'll take a break, we'll come back and we will give you the keys to the match and the history against Kansas City that'll

come next as we wrap up the pre map. Shown next on Sports Radio nine point fifty KJRM. It's the Marketers Report Today. Kate Cronin, chief brand Officer of Maderna tells us about the advantages the speed of audio production affords their growing tech company. At Maderna, we have a mindset saying that we pivot fearlessly, and I think with audio you can pivot fearlessly. You can go where the news is and bringing in content that perhaps you didn't have a

few weeks earlier. It's less six months in advantage or three months in advance. When you do a TVC you're able to create really nimble content, which I think in this day and a, and particularly at Maderno, where we have new information coming out on a regular basis, being able to see that

information to the audio format makes being nimble and pivoting easy. You're listening to the home of Sounders FC, Seattle's sports Radio nine fifty KJR, just about seven minutes away from kickoff at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City. Sounders playing Sporting KC today on the road. These Tier two teams they've faced off twenty seven times in MLS regular season play since Seattle joined MLS in two thousand and nine. Sounders will lead the season's lead the all time series

in the regular season, but not by much. It's twelve wins, eleven lost and four draws. So Casey can get even today and that would break a big streak. So Sounders right now trying to extend their record and keep Casey down. They split the two games in twenty twenty three last year in the trip here in Seattle, we talked about it earlier that Casey took they

broke a winless streak and they got a big win. But we hadn't even mentioned in the last game that Sounders played down there at Children's Mercy Park. It was a four to one win at the legendary game where Leo Chu had four assists and Jordan Morris had four goals, both club records. What an amazing game that was. Jordan Morris starts again today. Leo Chu is on the bench for your Sounders, but we'll see what can be created to follow up on that four to one game last year. With that said, p

Feeling, let's get to your keyst of this match. Well, I'm fired up. I've been wanting to say that the entire time. I'm excited to watch this game. I really am, you know, I would say my palms are just in a little bit, but I'm excited to see the team go out and perform well. The right side, the rolled On Brothers they've got to be effective the left side, Morris and Baker Whiting, they've got to be effective. So I want to see I want to see each of

them get on the other ends crosses right the middle of the park. We've got to own the middle of the park. JP, Obed have got to solidify the middle of the park. And you talked about our center backs. They've got to do their job today. So no unnecessary fowls, right, get your crosses in, get numbers in the box. Brian was talking about that quite a bit. And then I would love to see that when we're going forward, we don't put our foot on the ball and come back.

There is a time to keep possession of it and try to shift your opponents side to side. But when we get opportunities, i'd like to take them, and i'd like to see that from Albert Ruidiaz Morris a couple of balls over the top. I love it when JP finds Jordan Morris on a ball over the top. He scored that terrific goal. That a typical Jordan Morris goal is fast goal where he gets in and it's one on one he slots it. So we need a complete performance and again I'd love to see a

shutout. Friday deserves shut out. You deserve to not be stuck in tough, tough positions. So nope, they're got to place ninety minutes. They're coming up ten days. I think maybe that's why I'm fired up. I want to see what we've got. Well, I don't got any tactical analysis, but I will say from the mental side, just end their hope. Early goal in the first fifteen minutes, make them believe. Though. Here we go again, eight straight losses. Let's get two, Let's get let's

get too, that'd be even better. We'll hand things off to Danny Jackson Steve Zachwani. Sounders Sporting KC from Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City. Good evening and welcome to Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, where your Sounders face Western Conference rival Sporting KC. It's been another difficult start to a season for Sporting KC. Winless in their last ten and having lost their last seven straight games, KC are desperate for some light in the endless gloom, and they only need to look to last season. The game is Luminfield, on an equally challenging ten game winless streak and founder win that ignited their season.

For your Sounders, the RSL game was a blow that continues to pain in the squad, but a ten day break between games has given a depleted group of players a much needed boost. With only one loss in their last nine games and with three points in their grasp against the Western Conference leaders. The Sounders are in confident mood to earn their fourth win in their last five away

games. Sporting Case called the Sounders the most unlikable team in MLS this week, where we all hope the Sounders can play the part of villain again and get a needed three points. I'm Danny Jackson alongside former Sounders winger Steve zach Quarany for the call tonight. Before we get to Steve for his initial thoughts, let's get you the delta starting eleven for your Sounders and a strong lineup.

It is for Brian Schmetz, Stephan Fryan Gol about four of Alex Roldan, Jemar Reagan and then Weed Baker Whitings lots in on the left hand side and replace of Nuho who's out for international duty. Obert Vargas plays alongside JP. Middle of the park, Christian rolled On on the right, Albert Russneck, the goal scorer last week against RSL in the ten, Jordan Morris,

who scored four goals against Kansas City on their last visit here. He plays on the left, and then Ral Rudiez upfront as your number nine for Peter Verme He's going to play a traditional four to three to three is as he has always done. Timeliaring goal and a strong lineup for Vermes as well, Jake Davis, Castellanos, Fontas and Leibould on the back line. Eric Tommy back in the lineup after missing the last two games due to a hamstring injury.

He plays alongside Rodoya and Memo Rodriguez in the middle of the park and an attacking lineup of Selawi Poledo and then Johnny Russell so Steve. The team's going to be a little bit pained from that last minute equalizer for RSL, but boy at Moo tonight looking to try and get that awake form, keep it going and certainly put the real hammer on a sporting kseat. Yeah. I think it's two teams badly in need of a win, in search of a win. I think what's good for the sound is is there's recent experience

in this kind of game and getting a win on the road. The Philadelphia game is a good example those sort of sent to this game. I think a similar type of performance and approach is exactly what the team needs today. But definitely two massive franchises in dy in need of a win as a game gets kicking off sounders in their anniversary quick kid green shirts with blue pinstripes,

blue shorts and white socks. As this rolledn gets clattered into by shallow we gets pulled across which is live bold that gets steps in as strong challenge as Christian Roldan is slow to get off the deck sounds a shooting to the goal to our right and then sporting kse back at home or it's a difficult place to play. They're playing an all Navy tonight, dark blue shirts, shorts and socks. See a quick replay on our monitor of live ball crashing into

roll Don and Steve. You know, Peter Vermes is a fiery character. I heard it in your podcast. Both Kellen and Brad talked about it as well. I think Brad even said if he reverses the car in he's in a decent mood, go straight heading. Who knows he's in a bad mood for practice, but he's a fiery character. He and Bran Schmetzho have been at it for years and two of the longest tenured coaches in MLS. Yeah,

I feel there's a lot of respect there between the two. And the thing about Peter VMI says he has a lot of power there right because he makes all the decisions and he kind of can build that team in his image, and they've been very successful for a very long time, and so it's kind of surprising to see the way they've struggled. The sounds of struggled, because on paper, both teams are really really good, just haven't been able

to make it happen. But Petermes is definitely the kind of coult who's not going to settle for what he's seen his team do right now, and he's gonna light a fire under them. Actually benched some of his key players for a few games, a couple of games, and of course today they back in the lineup. Jackson Reagan, as the guys talked about in pregame, Jackson Reagan, he needs to really step up his game. Had a great breakout year last year. One of the top defenders in MLS, needs to

find his form. Alongside Yama, Sounders cross into their attack in half of the field, is rolled on on the right hand side, tries to play a squirrel on the eighteen to Ruy Diaz closed down quickly by Vargas. It shifts into this near side left clear by Liebold. Little combination with Eric Tommy tries to wriggle free of Obed Vargas, picked up by Christian Roldan, pinching

him from his right hand side into JP's available. As Christian rolled on down the line eventually gets it from his brother little back heel to Alex on the right hand side, just flicks it towards the end line closed down by Lebold. Slide and tackle goes out for a Sounders throw. A good positive start in these first two minutes Steve by the Sounders, and I'm very happy to

see Alex Rodan get that high up the pitch. I think it's been missing from the Sounders game this year since he's coming into the league and playing got a right back. His final third delivery has been such a huge component of what the Sounders do in an attacking sense, and we have not seen enough of that this season. But I think as Christian Rodan's from continue to improve he's on the right hand side, their understanding is second to none. You're

seeing the best of Alex fan to come back as well. Christian Roaldancher has a regal free inside the eighteen yard box cleared by Kansas City, and as much of the Sounders want to get off to a fast start, I think Peter Vermes has talked about his team just being solid. They've again seven game windless streak all comes out actually seven straight games having lost ten game windless streak. For Peter vermeis his team and certainly the last couple of seasons, it's

been a really poor start. But listening to some of the guys at Sporting KC was injuries last year that caused it this year not so much more poor play as Rudiaz right hand side whip sent it in toowards the back post, tries to find Morris, cleared reader Baker White and gets his first involvement bundles

over Johnny Russell. Peter Fewings talked about there'll be a real good challenge for him, a young kid, obviously stuffered from some injuries after kind of going through the end of last season into preseason, but now back on the field, gets his start tonight with you knew who being gone for international duty and no better place to play than an environment like this against a play like Russell. It's a massive test, you know, Johnny Russell at his best is

still one of the standout wingers in all of Major League soccer. Is a player who's hurt the Sounders in the past, probably the most important player for football in Kansasite in the past few seasons. And so for Rebaker White and you were very high on and he's been playing very well and extremely aggressive defender offers you a lot attacking wise as well. You're gonna have to be on your game to watch Johnny Russell, and it's for ninety minutes and you cannot

switch off even once. Is an international level player. So for Redbaker White in who continues to make a stake and a claim that he deserves more minutes, this is probably the kind of game where you really have to show your stuff. Paul goes into that man top of the box, brings it down

clear by this sound is up to the foot of Rudias. Good little play between Ruydiez and Rouzneck just into the sporting case defense half of the field on the right hand side, this near side with Alex Roldar comes back to Yama with Stuart Hawkins and knew who on international duty. So Brian Schwetz has very strong line up tonight, consistent lineup. I'm just starting to see players come back coming fit. Petro de la Vega continues to work towards that fitness form.

Of course, towards the endline is shallow We just flicks it into the six yard box. Good header by Jackson. Reagan clear's his lines picked up again by Shallowy. This near side the left comes back to Eric, Tommy riggles free of Jao. Paolo just shoulder to shoulder find Shallowy. Good save by Stephan Fry and the second attempt he jumps on it, but good play by Kansas City on this near side eventually finds Shallowy. Low shot, eventually

saved by Stephan Fry. And that's the danger that Kansas City does possess. They have individual match winners all over that attacking Ara de Pulido, Russell, and on this occasion shallow he's the one causing the problems Indian. It's a comfortable save for Stephan Fry, but the warning signs are then. I do expect a very open game thing. I think neither of these teams are gonna want to sit back. They're gonna want to give as good as they've got

and you're seen already that's boy in Kansas City. When they do get in the final third, they're one of the teams that do have the quality to unlock you individually. And Shallowy's one of the key guys for that. Well. Six of the last seven games in which they've lost only been by one goal. Last game was a three to one loss in Minnesota. Johnny Russell scored that lone goal towards the end of the game coming off the bench.

Steve zach Corni mentioned Peter Vermes has made some changes, maybe potentially to rest guys for this really really important game. As much as these two teams are struggling this year, they have fought it out for many years between these two coaches. Peter Vermies, of course, have been taken over the role back in nine His only MLS gig has been here at Kansas City. He seems to have a clenched fist around this club, managing both on the field and

off the field work with the players. But he's under some pressure, Steve, and he has to be, and I think that's when you want to be a big club. Just like here in Seattle, the stands are so high, splated are so high from the fans you it demands success. So having a off year, yes, two off years, questions have to be asked, and that's the pressure you embrace if you want to be a big

club with sport in Kansas City. Has to be said. In the last decade or so have been one of the two teams in MLS, but definitely going through a very rough stretch of a past eighteen months or so. Eric Tommy drives forward on this near side. The left gets bundled over by JP. Quick start by SHALLOWI finds Eric Tommy inside the box. Strike will deflection off Alex rolled on. Unnecessary foul by JP on this near side, but

instead of swinging the ball in Kansas City got the game going quickly. I think Eric Tommy has been spoken about by Vermese as the player that can connect the back line to the front line and nobody else can do that in the team. And he's a welcome return back to this starting lineup having missed the last two games. As we mentioned, as Or goes into Christian Rolled on

this near side, the right just ricochets off Liebold Shallow. We tries to pick it up goes out of bound, it's going to be throwing for the Sounders with Alex rolled on well. Sound as FC Socker is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of sound as FCS get here. In the eighth minute, Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, nil nil between these old rivals into Jordan Morris called for a handball again. Kansas City try to get the

game going quickly. It feels like Steve. They're playing on the front foot, trying to get that fast style like the Sounders have, and they're up for this one for sure. That's clearly a coaching instruction that everything's been taken quickly, even free kicks in the final third, they want to put the hand on the ball trying to catch the Sounders off. So you'll have to be very very alert for that. And I think it's when Kansas City is

at their best. It's when they're trying to play on the front foot, trying to take the game to the opponent, and it's a team of the bats against the wall. I mean, seven straight losses doesn't make for pretty reading. And so at home on a Saturday night here, I think for them it's a case of look, we're going to come out early, really take it to the Sounders, try and get up a goal, and so the sound is going to know they're in the four game and have to withstand

that pressure early on. At the same time, because of how aggressive sporting Kansas City will be, there will be chances and gaps in transition for the Sounders to exploit. Well, you mentioned they are dangerous going forward, but vulnerable at the back. Conceded thirty one goals already this year over sixteen games, almost two goals a game, So they can button things up at the

back. They have the higher power up front. But as we discussed with Brian Schmetzer asking the question about the players coming back in the lineup, the shallowies of the world Poldo, they've got a lot of miles on their legs as well. So Kansas City is up for a reboot potentially in the coming years. Where Rudy has picks it up in the Sounders half of the field, gets shrugged off by Rodriguez, called for a foul, felt like Raoul got away with one there rost the ball and a free kid given for the

Sounders. Yeah, there may have been an initial tug, but the longer roll kept the ball, there was taking a risk and in the end I think Kansa can feel a little bit aggrieved by that, but Rudy has getting away with it. But you also seen Raoul dropping a bit deep into the midfield trying to get his touches going early on today, which means going to

be even more important for someone to stretch the game. And that's probably Jordan Morris and on the right hand side, Christian Road done at times, but probably Alex rod done as well getting past that backlane, because you cannot have the whole game in front of the Kansas City backline, especially if your number nine rowl keeps dropping deep. Will We talked to Brian Schmittzer the weeks about how the Sounds need to play on the front foot in possession, especially when

they go up a goal. I talked to Albert Russneck this week. He said the same thing, and here's that man on the ball right now, just riggles free tress, play a little combination. Albert goes over the top goal kid, what a chance eight yards from the angle, tight angle, But should have done better with the quality that Albert Rosnick has. It should be one nil, and was just gonna say he's the man informed. He's

starting to get assists. He's got a great goal recently as well, and for a player of these quality, he works that really well with Ruy Diaz the lovely given goal. Once you're six yards out in the box, you can see what he's trying to do. Card that bend into the far post, but leans back a little too much, gets way too much purchase underneath it and the board flies way over the crossbar. That is a massive chance. You don't get many of those away from home, and it should be

one nil to the Sounders. Albert rousnet working that very well. First goal for the season he scored last week. It's his old club Rsel and here comes Russell towards the end line, marshaled well by re Get Baker White and goes over the end line. First corner kick Kansas City. I think Russell's just putting his shrugging his shoulders, wondering if it was a pull and a tug. But it is going to be a corner kick for Casey. Raucous

rowdy crowd as they always are here at Children's Mercy Park. Moved here just over ten years ago, continue to fill it to the rafters. Talks about the success the women's teams having in Kansas City as well as the ball gets whipped in right on top of step fran Fry. It likes to punch instead of catch, clears his lines well, finds the foot of Tommy far side the right is the left foot of Russell. Goes back to Tommy with those

orange boots as he comes inside. Retains possession. Liebold just tucked in off that left hand side. Finds Tommy again, just trying to dictate play. Tries to flack it between the legs of Christian roll down. He's going to drive forward. Cuts the ball into the middle of the park to Ruy Diaz. Retains possession but given away cheaply by rolled down. Referee calls a free kick on Rodoi came off his arm. Sounders get it going quickly, good

pace to this game in these early minutes. Twelve minutes gone here neil no, here's Jordan Morris one on one. There's he got a chance and he puts it in there, looks across to the assistant referee. No flag and that's the Sounders first goal. And Jordan Morris's fifth goal in Kansas City in the last two games. Sporting case Neil Sounders one, Well, there's something about Jordan Morrison playing in this stadium because he always seems to find a way

to score. And that's a really good finish. But got to make mention of the pass. I mean, this is an absolutely brilliant lofted ball over the top from Joe Polow. Jordan's definitely on side by my look down the replay, and I love the composure here. One VW one, no rush, no panic, freezing, the goalkeeper momentarily has a head up, has a look Pixie spot puts it right into the corner there. But that pass, that is some pass from Joe Polo, I mean, completely takes out

the entire sport in Kansas City back line. Great run from Jordan Morris. We just talk about the importance of him making runs in behind him. That's why you can't be caught once he's there, and once you get there, you have to have composure, which he did very good. Finished Sounders up on No, Well, it was Saint Louis when he's similar roll ball over the top that was from Rossnick. This time it's from JP. Two big

players in the middle of the park connecting with Jordan Morris. We haven't seen too much of that this season, but Jordan Morris is really finding his feet in these last couple of weeks. He and Rosneck really connecting well. This time it was JP as a VRS having a little listen. We'll see if the angle's right. I think it may be for a potential foul, and I don't know that it was a foul. It was JP who clashed into Polito who ended up staying down and so they're looking was that a foul?

I do not see that as being a foul. Goal given by the referee. No foul. He saw it from the replay on the monitor. Didn't look like anything. The referee agreed. Sounders go up one goal to nil, and for Jordan Morris it's muscle memory from last year. Four goals last year against Sporting Case in a four to one drubbing. It was a garter who got actually Sporting Kse off the mark. But then it was four unanswered goals by the Sounders, four assists by Leo Chu, who sits on the

bench tonight should all be licking his lips as well. Try to get back on the field and do some magic as well. But for the Sounders now it's the next five minutes really important. We seeing the Sounders be vulnerable at times giving up cheap goals. Now it's a matter of just being strong, being disciplined. When it was sporting case will come and look for an earlier

response. But Steve zac Quanti, that is exactly the start that Brian Schmitzer would have wanted, and not the start that Peter Vermese would have asked for his team. No, absolutely not. But also it comes with no surprise. This is the kinds of Sea team that is leaking goals. That's the thirty second goal already conceded the season. So yes, I think their front three definitely can install a little bit of fin to you. But if you look at that backline, the amount of space they give you, the amount

of goals to concede, very disorganized, don't play as a union. You probably felt you were going to get chances for the Sounders and had to go. One's already albut Russna got in behind, couldn't quite finish. Jordan did get behind, didn't make a mistake. So as good as they can be going forward, they leave a lot to be desired. Defensively, Russell with the ball hustled well by read Baker Whiting on the far side the Sounders left.

Casey retained possession with Fontest with left foot rolls it out to this near side to shallow Wie who's dropping deep to find the ball. Light ball touched inside now sorts of shift to this near side the left finds the foot of Tommy who's hustled by Alex Rolldan referee calls the foul on the Sounders number sixteen. Not about foul to give just a few yards inside the Sounders defensive half of the field. Casey get the ball going quickly in the center circle Castellanos

and we'll see Steve what the crowd's responses. They continue to support their team. Peter Vermese has been positive about the efforts that his team's put in. Last week, he talked about that, even going down three goals to one against Minnesota, very kin to what Brian Schmitzer likes to do in terms of propping up his team. But at the end of the day, it's about

getting results. You have to and you know you spoke about a ten game win the Street seven straight defeats at some point, no matter how confident you are, no matter how low your fan base is, they want results. The one performances and Pioremi just tried to shake it up as we mentioned these benchal big players like Russell and Poldo and trying to get a response from his

team. It hasn't worked so far. This Kansas City team, who would have come into this game and the last thing they have wanted is to give the sound as the lead and something to play for, and they've done that. So now we'll see if you can get response on the whole team. Far side the right, Here comes Russell, ball at his feet, just chops it, toys left foot, clips it down the line to Davis playing on that right hand side, traditional midfield player having to drop back to that

right hand side. After the retirements of Graham Zuzi Espinosa last year, long serving players for Sporting Kansas City, they're out of the club as of last year. He Defermes haven't made too many changes in the off season, really relying on banking on these players that have done so well from over the years. As Russell's gonna whip it in on a corner kick hooked into the six yard box. Good tearing header by Jackson Reagan. Good flick by Ruy Dias

to the foot of Rosneck as a Sounders try to break clear. Tommy brings it down, almost loses the ball, but collected well by Castellanos and the team in navy blue. We're gonna build us again. Farst side the right is Russell likes to come in on his preferred left foot, clips it towards the fast stick to Tommy just outside the box, collects it on his foot. Lord step Over tries to go towards the end line, well marshaled by Christian Roldan flicks it over the end line. It's going to be a corner

kick for Kansas City. It's a good sustained pressure. Good response by Peter Vermes his team here in the eighteenth minute sporting case nil Sounders one nine point fifty am. Wherever you're listening to us, so we appreciate you joining us. Long term rivalry between these two clubs, it's not been the start that needs either team has wanted from this season, but Sounders leading now bor gets whipped into the fast stick. Terrible delivery by Rodriguez, goes all over the

top, bounces twice over the far end line. It's gonna be a goalkick for the Sounders, and it has been a good response for Sporting Kansas City. But I think you know since the opening whistle, they've tried to play on the front foot, so there's no surprise there. It's at the other end of the pitch where they have issues. And in this game, the way they can be so open, it's gonna be too or free big chances

for the Sounders. It's a game with something can take their chances. Stay sort of defensively knowing you're gonna get one or two, maybe three more big chances. This is a game the Sounders really really should be feeling that they can win. Christian roll Dance sliced off his right foot. He saw Jordan

Murray's slashing on that back post. He was open, couldn't connect. This's is a real good test for the Sounders, Steve about how they play a goal up and play on the front foot and just don't retract in a shell. Yeah, it's too early for them. We've seen in recent weeks for the Sounders Lado to Rodriguez inside the box, to Russ with his left foot strikes it back of the net, Stephan and Fry a chance to make the save. It look like a routine save and unfortunately fans the back of the

net and sporting casey tied up here. One one. Yeah, we would be very curious to see a replay of it here because it does look that Stephan Fry gets his hand to it. I'm not sure how much in the corner this was. It comes from Russell's left foot. Dangerous player, and it came from a lot of buddies, So I want to see exactly what's in front of Stephan and Fry. So we're gonna look at the replay. Is Kansas City again in the white channels where they've been successful so far.

Poluto does a good job trying to get the ball going forward into the box, Sound has failed to clear it and as it drops for Johnny uss With. I think it's one that Steph's gonna went back for as many big says the steps have made over the years, and you'd expect him to save this one here. But that's the curse of being a goalkeeper. You make one mistake balls in the back of the net. But I think it's one that Steph gets enough on it there that you probably should be pushing it around the

post. But for Spaking Kansas City, they won't care. They've had a good response in the back. On level terms, third goal for Johnny Russell continues to add to his score tally against the Sounders. The player since twenty and eighty score the most goals against the Sounders is Johnny Russell. It needs to be a thorn. It's called a hat trick, of course, here against the Sounders in a three to two win. I think it was twenty nineteen. Or gets ripped into the foot of Polita. Too much time and

space to turn to shallowy down the left hand side. Jackson Rigan comes across, enters the eighteen yard box towards the end line, cuts along the six clear well by read Baker Whiting. Too easy for Sporting KC to slash through the Sounders back line. Steve, it feels like they're getting too much space to turn in the middle of the park back forty to press a little higher.

Yeah, the Sounds need to get a bit more controlled. There's too much of a gap between the midfield and the back line that needs to be compressed a little bit whether the Sounds want to drop the land of confrontation back a little bit just to prevent that space. There's too much space in between

for the team to play. Now. We know we say the league table doesn't lie, and that's true, but there's a reason why we're also prior seeing Sporting Kansas City as low as they are, because they're very good in the attack. They've been getting out of the sound its opening twenty minutes, say it's five six times they've got into the box already causing problems. They've

got the one goal from it only so far. But for the sounder, you've got to change something because right now Sporting Kansasity in the wide channels left and right, they're getting in behind it little too easily. Well, even the goal Steve and those Brian Schmidtz will often talk about, yes, seven fry maybe he should have made this, say with his experience and quality,

but he'll talk about where was Pleido's press. He received the ball in the eighteen yard box, no pressure was able to turn lay it off and then there was no real press on Johnny Russell's shot either from all of twenty yards out. Yeah, and that was one example of many in this game, where Sporting Kansas City seemed to just be playing through the lines for the sound is easy to get into Jackson and Yama a lot at will, almost with

very little cover. So between Joe Parlow orbit Vargas, maybe they dropped the line just a little bit more. Bring Rould back a bit started, confrontation a bit deeper, be a bit more compact. Having space between your lines is the recipe for disaster. Leader whips it in towards the back stick, who's given away by Jackson Reagan. Sloppy ball from Yemar to Reagan forced him back clear the lines only to find the foot of Rodoya. But here come

the sounders. Now foot of JP. We're going to need all his experience just to dictate tempo in the middle of the park. Was giving away cheaply by Vargas. Retains the ball in the middle of the field. He's gonna shift it from center far side of the left to read Baker White and can he get involved down that left hand side. See some more balance on that left Typically he knew who's staying home, but he's been given license in the

last couple of weeks to move forward. Here is read Baker White in skips by Well finds the foot of Jordan Morris left corner of the box, just clips it into Ruy Diaz top of the box. Tries to turn away from Fontess read Baker White and wins the ball. Driving forward is obed. Vargas tries to cut it back to Russneck, blocked and eventually cleared by Shallow. We finds the foot of Yeamar good press a good response from the men in

green. Remains one to one. Here in Kansas City, sounds in possessed twenty five yards from gold foot of Russnik goes square to this near sight. Christian rolled on, goes down by labeled and was given away by Christian, picked up by Russnik. Fouled by Rodrigue's unnecessarily right channel twenty yards or so from the end line. Good chance for the Sounders to whip a good ball

in from this set piece. It's a silly foul because now you're giving the sound as a chance to really get the big lads up into the box. You have the quality of Russnek, maybe Joe Polo to whip the ball into this box and put that backland under pressure. We'll see what the Sounders can

make of this here, but it's a good response. Also, the Sounders given up that lead, didn't hold onto it for very long, but immediately coming back on the front Foor had a couple of good attacks and now with the first real chance from a set piece to get the ball into a dangerous area. Seven goals conceded by Kansas City from set pieces this year, so they're not very very strong in these positions. Can the Sounders take advantage?

But we know the Sounders also not been to forthright in their execution ball because the far post Jackson Reagan knocks it down, comes off the back of the shirt of Russell finds his foot again far side Kansas City's right cushion ball by Alex Roldan. Sounders retained possession and they're attacking half for the field. Sounders shooting to the goal to our right, green shirts, blue shorts, white

socks. They lead for a few minutes here in Kansas City. Great goal by Jordan Morris, second goal in three games, very akin to that goal he scored against Saint Louis, where balling over the top, Jordan Morris found his space in behind and then slotted it a home very very well as Christian roll Don tries to find his brother cut out and here comes Sporting Casey given away but sloppy by Reid Baker. Whiting goes over the far touch line for

a throwing for Kansas City. This copyrighted audio casts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. Twenty five minute here remains one one between Sporting Kansas City and the Sounders in the shop by Rawridiez. Just why do you hear it crash off the advertising holdings? Speculative in some ways, but we've seen Raoul shoot from distance. This time is all of twenty seven twenty eight yards out,

almost catches Tamilia goal kick, but good chance by Roridiaz. Just not scared of taking those shots, see Zacquanni. No. And he gave a little apology there to Jordan Rosen Christian Rodan, who had made good runs. But I think Raoul's earned the right to take that with what he's done over the years that he hasn't had many looks yet so far this afternoon, and he's about twenty five yards out there, and it never quite was on target, but he hit it very well. Millia was a little bit at least concerned

enough to dive across Indian he had it covered. But you're not surprised to see that from Ruy Diaz. I mean he had an audacious one in the last Sounders game from halfway land left foot, turned blind and almost caught the goalkeeper. So you can you can forgive Raoul for going for gold there if, even if maybe the pass could have been a better option. Casey slowly getting themselves back into the game here having conceded that the eighth time in the

last ten games they conceded first. So it's not been a strong suit of the team in Navy blue. Starting the game off strong. But here comes Russell far side the right. Can he flick it to his left foot to Rodriguez goes out to Davis far side the right, whips it in towards the back stick, headed up and away by Alex Roldan gets clattered Into's taking a moment it looked like he got a knock in the head by Yamar, who was moving back. Seemar just stands over Alex Roldan Johnny Ross asking questions,

yeah and I think there may have been a push. It could be shallow as well. Did he push Alex Rodan into Jamar here, There's definitely was hands in the back of Alex Rowdan there, Yes, And that's that's the right decision. As a push the into Alex Rowdan's back pushes in him into Jaime Wine And I think anyone comes comes into collision with Yaar is gonna come

worse off. So Alex definitely got the brunt of it. Alex back on his feet, games back underway as Jackson Reagan launches it long cushion headed by Reed Baker Whiting as Obody goes to the deck, wins the ball sounds retained possession far side well good lord flick by Rosnet well played, give it away by Vargas, read well by Tommy, rolls it into shallowy good step by

Yemar led m molescent interceptions o the last two years. There's another really good job or goes back to Stephan Fried decked out in all fluorescent yellow Tonight plays the ball into Alex rolled on Brian Schmetz. You can hear him asking the referee for some kind of decision like rolled on got clattered into there should have been a foul. Second time in as many minutes. Alex Roldan hits the

deck slow to get up. You guys mention it about Rolldn's ability to play out with the ball and the sounder do you like to build in possession and Alex Rolldon is the player really with the technique to do that. Yeah, he's the key, you know. On a recent podcast, Brad Evans made that point that in that back line, he's probably the best on the ball,

more comfortable. Obviously, spend a long time playing in midfield under the tutelage of our own colch Pete, So obviously Alex Rodane is very comfortable on the ball, and I think at times for the sound as they do try and maybe overplay, but knowing how good he can be on the ball,

you can understand why they'll go to him. We've just seen a recent week of team begin to find a better balance between building from the back and also sometimes bypassing the press and going a bit more direct to put back lines under pressure. Sounders need to get their foot back on the ball, setting in forty six percent possession. So far as Kansas City start to control things, we know that Brian Schmidtz is looking to try and hit that fifty five percent

mark, and that's both at home and away. There's a combination of how do you play long and how do you play short? Sometimes you gotta put your foot behind it, as Stephen Fry just did. But the Sounders give up possession middle of the park. Johnny Russell fastside the right now could have slashed by Reed Baker whiteing he goes down, good tackle. Referee gives give us a goal kick. Who was a sliding tackle by Reid Baker White.

It came off the shin of Russell over the end line. Good play by the young left back, and it's good because that's exactly what Johnny Russell loves to do, is just push the ball into space and really put you under pressure. And when you go to ground in the box, you're taking the ricks by Reid Baker White and got his timing spot on there. It's the right decision. He knocks that back off of Johnny Russell, ricochets off the

Kansas City players ankle when it goes in behind for a goal kick. So the first real one on one match up there between Russell and Read Baker White and Reed comes out on top Yep Russell goalscorer Tonight already seven goals in the last twelve games against the Sounders, does Johnny Russell And again, as you mentioned, Albert Rossnick discussed the desire need for the Sounders to retain possession even when they go ahead. That Sounds gonna have to fight a bit of momentum

going against them. As Johnny Russell tries to head, the ball comes off the hand of Read Baker Whiting advantage initially given by the referee, then pulls it back. It's going to be a free kick on the far side the right, twenty five yards yards or so off the end line, just tucked in from the near touchline. Good chance for the left foot Johnny Russell to put a ball in to the eighteen yard box. And he's had a couple of corner kicks from the right hand side, but he's put it right on

top of Stephan Fry. So this is probably even a better angle because from this angle, just trying to frame it on the goal and if no one touches it and the bullshould fry into the net. So you're trying to get runners across the eye sight of Stephan Friday. Sounder's got a whole dead line. I've got a comp got a challenge here, but it's a very good position for sport in Kansas City and Johnny Russell twenty goals giving up by the

Sounders this season. Johnny Russell's gonna whip it in with his left foot, middle of the six yard box, headed up and away by Jackson Reagan. Cushion ball by light ball to Tommy left corner of the box. That's a Lee Bold who's gonna whip it in towards a fast stick. There's a chance. I think it was shallow We on the back stick puts it over the top goal kick Sounders remains one bond, what one but great chance for Kansas City and the sound has escape here because I think I think shallow We looks

across that. I think he's going for goal. If he's simply has to play this across. Polito has a tapping at the back post. Pallido would be there for a tapping. I think shadow he's trying to redirect that towards goal. It's not an easy one. It was a fantastic board, really hard to defend in behind the back line. Probably a bit too far for

Stephan Fright to come and get. So give credit for the ball served in there, but I think shallow we probably should have and could have done better, shall we One of the dps for a Sporting k C one goal in his year so far. It's a little the kneemick from one of their main men, the main stay in this squad, and Peter Vermes is eleven for many years, fourth generation in his family to play professional soccer from Hungary before

he came into MLS. Soundeds to habit fast side the left with goalscorer Jordan Morris goes down by Jake Davis had to read Baker Whiting and we'll see how often read gets forward. We saw when he was in full fitness last year Dallas as an example towards the end of the year, his ability to get

further forward and be dangerous. And you can certainly tell here how comfortable he is with his weaker left foot, and that's a real benefit for the sounder is to have a player who is right footed but can still play confidently with his left. Yeah, and we've seen him do it just once so far today. But I think the advantage he gives you over New York Times is the way he joins attack. You know you actually do on the overlap off

the board. Reed doesn't mind taking you off the dribble, and I think that as a different dimension for the Sounders, where not all the pressure for the attack to come on the left hand side is on Jordan Morris, you actually have another player you can get into the final third and doesn't mind taking players on. So I want to see Read be a bit free, be a bit aggressive getting forward. I think you know his job today will be

listened keep Johnny Russell from hurting us. So he's got to be very locked in defensively, but he can add a different dimension to the Sounders attacks or be confident take risk in the final third because I think Red does have that quality. Tommy tries to flick it towards Castillana, someone gets cut out by ruy ds to get here. In the thirty third minute one one between Kansas City and your Sounders, Jordan Morris got the Sounders on the board early.

A quick response by Kansas City and one of their main men, Johnny Russell, from all twenty yards out casey come again with that man. Russell with his left foot pinched in now middle of the park, finds Tommy left corner of the box, goes short to lie Bold pressed by Christian Roldon needs to go back to Rodoya. Another one of those dps sitting holding player in the middle of the park Peter Vermes. Other than one or two players, a guard is sitting on the bench. He got the first goal last year in

the four to one loss against the Sounders. He sits on the bench. He's an attacking threat to come off for Peter Vermese. The ball gets flicked forward to Poldo or played by Yemas sees the danger comes across, takes it off his chest, but the slices the ball out with his left foot far side. It's gonna be a throw in for Sporting case. But June's Pride Month support LGBTQ plus owns small businesses during the month of June for a chance

to win Sounders rises. Visit intentionalist dot com to find a business near you. We talk about Brian Schmitzer and kind of going through these cycles of wins losses. Yes, the Sounders we've only lost one game in nine in nine, but it's the level of performance and uncharacteristic mistakes from the Sounders giving up golds late. It's been two times already this season past the ninety minute mark where they've conceded. Yeah, those really hurt. And I think if you're

looking at the it was Vancouver at home and Salt Lake at home. I mean these are home games where the sound is Over the years it's been a fortress and the inability to see out games. That's four points shropped and when it comes push comes to shoft. Toward the end of the season, that redline is normally decided just by a couple of points or gets flicked in. Tries to find Palido off the foot left foot of Johnny Russell on this near side. Stephan Fry reads it well, collects it, rolls it out to

yem Our top of the box high press now by Kansas City. The Sounder, trying to build good play by Vargas just wriggles free shifts it from enter to the far side the left, then giving away cheaply picked up by Davis, finds the foot of Rodriguez. Former La Houston man came in last season and had a good start to his campaign for his new club. He plays the ball short of Rodoya, comfortable in possession of case right now is get here in the thirty sixth minute, remains one one nine fifty KGr am.

Don't leave us at halftime, Jackson felt Pete fewing, We'll be back to break it all down and don't forget our big fiftieth anniversary celebration next week at home against Minnesota. Are flying in the Western Conference under new coach Eric Ramsey. Ball goes over the top, almost deflects into the path of Rovalry Diz,

picked up by Tommy case you gotta come again. Sounders just feeling a little bit off the pace and off the press right now, as Casey able to shift it from this near side to the far side, shallow We and Rossel now switch sides. As shallow We picks it up far side the right, gives it away cheaply. Davison's support picks it up. Rawl just drops back. Eleven men behind the ball for the Sounders as Jordan Morris staying a

bit more central. Now Casey build it this near side the left. Eric Tommy, who has been roaming all the way across from left to center to right and very involved so far. As Eric Tommy or get shifted to the far side. Jake Davis can't bring it down. Unnecessary giveaway by sporting case Sounders are going to have it in the hands of Ruidas throwing the halfway line

goes short to Vargas. Great start to his campaign. As much as we think the season has been going on and on already already halfway through, it feels like you blink and b the seventeenth game and Sounders really needs to start kind of kicking into gear, right, you know. Yes, they've had a decent run, solid performance in the last month or two. It's been a heavy workload in May, and now the next month or so it's gonna be important games to get some points on the board. Yeah, you don't

have all the time in the world. The end of the season, you know, it does go by quite quickly. The games do come thick and fast about this time of the year. And I think the sound is Yes, it's been a good it was a good month of made the last nime games have been good. But I think we're still waiting for them to really kick on, to really get into that form where you're going into games and you think it's going to be two or three goals per game, and the

attack is flying and chances are flying. We haven't quite seen that. I think it sounds have been solid without being spectacular, and it still is another gear or two that this team can reach, just because of the potential that we know that seeing the group, it's starting to come there, but hasn't

quite clicked all the way yet. It's interesting when you see some of the stats as we pick it up. Here is Rusnak try to find the foot of Rudz picked up by Fontast clears the ball out fart side the right to shallow. We stands up read Baker, Whiting comes back, good defending by the young left back slots in on the left hand side for New who is on international duty for Cameroon World Cup qualifiers already if you can believe it.

For twenty twenty six for New who Leebold has it drives forward on this near side the left tries to slot it in between Alex Roldan and Yima runs through to Stephan Fry But join us on Saturday June fifteenth, as we celebrate fifty years of Sounders and all those who are part of our club history kickoff. Visit seven thirty PM against Minnesota United. Tickets are available at soundersfc dot com slash tickets. In the thirty ninth minute, I means sporting case one Sounders

one Sounds coming off ten day rest. As we mentioned here, was ten games in thirty two days for the Sounders going back from DC United all the way through to RSL. Bran Schmetzer gave his players a few days off and then back to work this week. Jordan Morris has it drops it back to Rosneck. The early chance, of course, in the beginning of the first half, could have put the Sounders on the board. Early put it over

the bar. Jordan Morris managed get the Sounders on the board and then Kansas City responded with their talisman Johnny Russell for his seventh goal in twelve games against the Sounders. Ridoya tries to regle three dukshauldn comes clatters into the back of Roderigue. It's not a bad place to give up a foul deep in Kansas City's half. For the field, we've seen both teams. Steve put some high press as the teams build out the back, and you and I have

talked about it. Maybe traditionalists in some ways, sometimes you've got to play a little longer to then open up space in the field, Whereas sometimes you feel teams are forcing that build out of the back they get them in trouble. Absolutely, and I think both teams have been guilty of little simple giveaways in the backland and the midfield today, just unnecessarily little giveaways technical errors, and it gives your pony just the incentive to come forward, and you're giving

them extra chances as well. So I think it's just being smart. It's not about playing long boards, about listen, being smart and saying we're really under pressure here. Can we play the board in behind this line that's pressing with us, get a bit further up the field into the guys who want to have the board, Our midfielders an attacking players to be the ones on the wall. I think it's just a smart way to play the game.

At times, a little bit of Vargas moving down this right hand side goes into Christian Roldan who's slotted into the center as Vargas advances a lot further forward, so that those two players have made a lot of shift. What goes out to this near side the right to JP Whipsel on the six headed up and away by Fontest finds the foot of Rouznak twenty five yards out, strikes

it over the top. Goalkick here in the forty first minute Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Sporting case one, Sounders one, and that's a good attack by the Sounders. We've not seen enough of that interchange because in the end there it was Christian Rodan who was inside. It was Joe Parlow who made the run out on the right hand side. And you won't see that too often, but two or three times a half, just to confuse the opponent. I think it really does open up and expands the way the Sounders

can attack. It really gives them a veried attack and Joe Parlo gets into the right hand channel. But it's on a very good board that was well defended by Sporting Kansas City in India, and Albert Russnak shot from all of twenty five thirty yards was never really troubling media, but it was good sustained

pressure from the Sounders. I'm Steve. We've seen the Sounders trying to kind of pass the ball in the back of the net, but when you take strikes from distance, we've seen it with Rudy as already now with rossneck. It does then open up different spaces to play around the top of the eating yard box because it forces you back for it has to step up. Yet if they have the fear and the threat that you could strike from distance,

they've got to step up. Then that allows for the little slip balls in behind, little runs around the corner from the likes of Raoul and even Christian Rodan Jordan Morris can make those runs. But I think for the sounds at times it's trying to score a perfect goal. It's the combinations that given goals and when it comes off it looks fantastic for a couple of those this season. But at times Russnik, jar Parlow, Raoul, those guys have a

good strike on them. Twenty five thirty yards up, put your head up, strike it and see what happens well. Discount Tire get thirty percent short average weight time when you buy and book online at discount tire dot com. Get here. In the final minutes of this first half started off quick, slowed down somewhat. You know it could be hot, sticky, muggy and can the City's board goes down the left hand side Vargas does collect at top of the box, challenged by Russell, tries to go square to Rosnek,

cleared by the KC back four. Sounders have ninety games away from home that they've won since two thousand and nine, leading MLS by eleven the Lake Galaxy Trail. The Sounders have had good success not just this year but over the course of time. In their MLS tenure mentioned three wins at last four away from home difficult places Portland, Philadelphia, Saint Louis. It's home forms Steve that's been the real trouble for the Sounders. Only one win at home so

far this year, and that goes beyond this season. It's been that way for a couple of years and it really really is something that makes me scratch my head because it's always been a fortress playing at Lumanfield for the Sounders. I think it's the way teams have come to play as the Sounders. They'll really set up prevent the Sounders from playing their possession based game and catching them

out in transition. And when there's been a serious lack of goals from the Sounders, once you fall behind one nil, if you're not a team that's used to scoring two three goals a game. A lot of these games are ending one to one or one nil loss or two to one loss because the Sounders simply aren't able at the moment to break teams down consistently and score multiple

goals. So it's still away from when teams actually do open up and the Sounders can play a bit more tall to toll and have their own moments in transition seeing a little bit more success. But I think at some point to be successful in this league, you've got to be a very good home team, and that's been lacking for the past couple of seasons. We talk about how difficult it is to win away from home in MLS, Sounders are flipping

that upside down winning away from home, struggling it at home. Hopefully starting next week and our fiftieth anniversary celebration, we can turn the tides so to make looming field of fortress again, which is what Brian Schmidtzer talked about last season when the Sounders got off to a flying start, dominant performances and wins versus Colorado and RSL, and the first part of the twenty twenty three campaign kind of built up towards that game in Kansas City last year where the Sounders

won four goals to one. So Eric Tommy has it this near side the left, rolls it out to lie Bold, comes back Fontest has it sound as eleven men behind the ball deep in their half of the field, or goes down the left hand side to the left back for Sporting case comes off the shins of Alex rold On over the end line. Corner kick four k c remains one one Steve zac Corni, Yeah, and very important for the

Sounder to see this out. You probably won't get him any more chances before the halftime whistles up, but the worst time to concede will be right before halftime. You're gonna have to defend and survive this corner kick from Sporting Kansas City. For the Sounders, you have to try and get into halftime at one to one, regroup and then give yourself forty five minutes to come out and try to win the game. But this is not what you want to

be at this point of game. Also be whipped in with the right figures all the way to the back stick again finds the chest of Johnny Russell back to Eric Tommy has some time and space knocks it over the top goalkick Sounders remains one to one, and this score up date is pretented by provident Swedish can't imagine there's too much time to be added on the clock. We'll see if Jordan Morris can try and find a way to get the Sounders in front

before they go into the locker room. Has the ball in possession, almost tries, almost finds Rudiez cleared by KC flipped up in the air. Good play by shall Power. Two minutes of added time here in Kansas City is kse pick it up middle of the park. Rodoya has been quiet in this first half but effective sitting in front of that back for just making things tick. Tommy has it far side the right, goes to Jake Davis and support down that right hand side. It's got a great goal just a couple of

weeks ago against Austin in their three to two win. Real cracking shot from all of twenty five yards. As you mentioned, Johnny Russell three goals in his campaign. Those three goals are coming in the last five games. One of those tonight it's Fontess has it. He's got the rolling clock in the stadium just over a minute to go here for Brian Schmetz, that can get in to the locker room and give his words of wisdom and then hopefully get

a response from his team coming out the second half. Steve, Yeah, and I think you'll be a good good half time locker room, good team talk. I mean it's one one you would you want to keep your lead a little bit longer? Possibly? Yes, but spot Canda see as the half has gone on, become a little less dangerous. In the final third, Sounders have sort of his shallowy support by Libel left backs clips it in is the clear by Read Baker. Whiting has been effective in his first start

for the Sounders this year. JP tries to wriggle three one by fontast picked up by shallow Wey this left hand side tries to strike it speculatively from thirty five yards, clatters off. Sounders defended. Jordan Mourris picks it up fast side the left is read Baker Whiting. Is he gonna get one more fry into the attacking half of the field. He does. He slides forward, gets dragged down by Jake David. It's going to be a yellow card.

First yellow card of this half, and that's an SGB yellow card when a foul is called. SGB trial lawyers are here to help visit SGB dash law dot Com. Play by Reed Baker Whiting. Yeah, it's good and I think we want to see a bit more of that as the second half progresses, because those chances and spaces will be there. As Kansas commits forward,

they'll be spacing behind. I think as the half has gone under the sound has done a much better job of preventing space in the wide the areas where almost in the first twenty twenty five minutes sporting kind of city will gain in behind at will. And it's improved a lot. So I think half time

for branch of mensa it's probably only attacking sense. Can we get Albert Russknak, Jordan Morris, Alex Rodan, Christian Rodan, ral Udias those guys a bit more involved because putting this back on under pressure, they're not the best back line and we've not tested them enough. Bor goes down line to Christian

Roll done bundle owed by Rodriguez. There's a referee. We're sort of thought the Sounders might be able to put the ball in the box from that free kick, but they didn't and the referees whistle goes to bring this half to a close. It was an early goal by Jordan Morris after a nice pass over the top by JP. They've got the Sounders on the board and then a quick fire response from their main man, Johnny russell Is seventh goal in

twelve games against the Sounders ties it up here in Kansas City. Steve your final thoughts, well, I think it's a game that's well balanced, even he poised right now, and both teams will fill they can go on to win this game. I think for the sound Is, the one letdown has been not testing that back line enough. But you have a whole half to do it. I think the sound Is really have three points that if they want it, just want to see a bit more emplement attacking sense. Take

a short break, Jackson and Pete. We'll be back to break it all down at halftime here at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City. It's sporting case one, Sounders one. What I want to do is is kind of just really quickly go through both goals and let's talk about the process with both of them, because in the twelfth minute it was just seconds after a big mischance by Albert Rusnak, but Jordan Morris from

Jual Paulo. It was a thing of beauty. It was, and it's what we talk about Jordan Morris. That was a clinical, clinical finish and what we see from him going right down the middle of the park and he you know, he didn't even hesitate right and he looked like he was going to the left side of the goalkeeper and then really hit it well to the right side and it was a really good finish from probably sixteen yards out.

Great ball from JP. We need more of that, and that's how Jordan's last goal that he got where he just was played through and so terrific finish. We have to replicate that over and over and again. I think it was just a clinical finish from Jordans. I'm sure everybody's relieved to see that

because that's what he is, that's his specialty right now. It was a clinical finish and a smart play by him because he knew Casey is playing that high line, knew he can get right right behind him, so he understood his positioning right there really really well, look right away exactly and he was on side just by a hair. But Joal Paula, you mentioned it just a sensational ball over the top to get it to Jordan and for one nothing.

Now, unfortunately that lead only lasted seven minutes because then in a nineteenth minute a ball fell to Johnny Russell just on the edge of the box. He hits it from distance, and you know, we all said, they said it on the broadcast, and I think we all agree Stephen Fry is gonna want that one back. Yeah, no question. It wasn't that it came through a crowd. I think Steph just didn't have a strong right hand

on it. And you're right, he's gonna want that back. I think one thing that Brian Schitzer will talk about is they've got a step to the ball so that that shot is blocked. Kansas City, interesting stack. They have the most goals in MLS from outside the box. They've got seven LA's behind him. What I thought it would have been us No, yeah, yeah, and so he But we've got a step to that ball. That ball should be blocked in it and there was one in that sequence of plays

we should have gotten to the ball quicker. So a good finish from Johnny Russell. But if you give a guy like that a chance, just like if they give Jordan Morris a chance. Chances are they're going to put those shots away, but it would have been great for one to block that get out in front of it. And that's what we saw last year a lot with Jackson, Reagan and goldmez Andrade. They blocked a lot of shots.

We don't get it, we get punished for it. Well. Also, I just feel like step and Fry has made those saves in the past, So it's just the added frustration from there. But it goes in and it is one to one right now. Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. It includes Leo Chew back from injury and available for head coach Brian Schmitzer, as well as Josh Atensio, Cody Baker, Andrew Thomas, Danny Lava and Tino Lopez up from Tacoma on a short term agreement, Danny Mazowski, Paul Rothrock and Dylan

Tevez. Good to have Leo Chew back, Pete Fewing he had four assists in this building last year, and there is firepower for Brian Schmittzer if he thinks he can win this game. Well. One one option is to take Nick Rusnick off and put Jordan in that spot that's where he got his goal. Put Chew on the left because Chew and Morris had a lot of success here a year ago with their each getting one getting four assists, one getting

four goals. So I could see that happening, Uh you know, and I think Rusnick's been okay, but he's hit two over the bar, and we got a free kick in the last seconds and he plays it down the line. He should have put it inside the box, So it might be uh, you know, might that might be a good change and get Leo chu back on the field. It was a fast start for both teams, to start the second first half. Do you think they both start fast to

start the second half? I do, I do. I think both teams are in similar spots, you know, one in tenth place, one in fourteenth place, so they want to take the momentum. I think each coach will say, look, we're still We're still in this game, for sure, everybody knows that. But I think they'll come out in the second half and it's a forty five minute game now. So one one between Sounders and Sporting Kansas City second half with Danny Jackson and Steve Zachawani is next on Sports

Welcome back Sounders fans to Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City. As the players get ready to kick off this second half, Sounders in their anniversary green shirts, blue shorts and white sox, they'll be kicking to the goal to our left, and then Kansas City in their all navy blue kit tonight attacking the goal to our right. And it was Jordan Morris who got the game

going with their first goal for the Sounders. Good quick start by the men in green, and then Johnny Russell, his seventh goal in twelve games against the Sounders, ties it up well. Steve you've been in the locker room many many times with Brian Schmetze. Feels like it's more kind of just guiding the team to do a few different things, improving a few different areas. But hey, ought to play for in this second half. I think that's

exactly. I think we just saw stat here on Askkreen, Jordan Morris had

eleven touches in the first half. It's nowhere near enough. So I think for branch Metz says, how do we get Jordan Morris, Christian Rodan, I would include Alex Rodn you know group read Baker White and Albert Rossna Grudias, the attacking guys who we depend on to make our offense, and a few more touches in the dangerous eras because this Kansasity backland is therefore the taken, and we've simply not made enough of that or put him under enough pressure

to expose how much they lacking and how deficient they are. Jordan Morris has it drops about to read Baker Whiting in the starting eleven tonight for his first time this year, as Jacks Reagan just clips it for a good ball into the foot of Christian rolled On brings it down well, giving away cheaply. Johnny Russell inside attacking third of the field, finds Polito top of the box, back to Russell, quick boy to shallow we good play by Yema.

Good defending cleaned up by Vargas far side the right, has rolled on, clips it into his brother. Christian rolls it out to Obed Vargas far side the right. Good play by the Sounders getting out of trouble building out the back. Got trouble of that at times this year, eliminating lines. What goes this near side the left? Jordan Morris see mentioned short and touches the first half. We need to get him more involved. But you're the most

important touch of the first half of the sound is that goal. Read Baker Whitan to get gone from an offside position, try to get back on side when they received the ball, didn't It's gonna be a free kick for Sporting Case deep in their half of the field. What do you make it? Read Baker Whiting's performance so fast? Yeah, I think he's been good defensively because we have not seen Johnny Russell getting by him a bunch of times,

to getting too the edd line a few times. But thin of conversation he'd have got there was I don't think he has to go forward there when Jordan's one view one to stay out of the space. You don't need to bring extra defenders with the overlap in that situation. So as a young player that still thinks is going to learn the timing of went over lap went to stay a bit behind the support from behind, I think on that occasion he took away the space from Jordan Morris. So I think read Baker White and for

what the X factor is what he can give him the attack. I think he's a very good defender, but he actually can carry the ball and drib ball and get into the tack and combine a few more into the pressure of Jordan Morris not seeing enough of that, and I think he can do that today because the space is there. Well, it's fascinating you forget how young some of these players are at times. Obt Vargas of course still a teenager,

but he's really building out and getting stronger. His lower body just seems so much stronger, maybe even from eighteen months ago of course to now say with Rebaker, Whiting just seems to have really developed and evolved in his body less gangling now than he once was, and now certainly more forceful in his size. Yeah, and I don't think the physicality is the era where Read's

going to struggle. I think Ready's built for the physicality. It's just the technical and tentical sound of the game is Jordan Marrik's left hand side is going to drive past the backline across the six yard box, cleared up and away by Lie Bold and then picked up by Johnny Russell, dropped it to Memo Rodriguez going to clip it to Tommy far Side. His first start after missing the last two games through a hamstring injury. He was questionable during the week,

gets his start, We'll see how long he lasts out there. No changes at halftime will get you those lineups. Momentarily, as Polido shifts it, as she Shallowy shifts it, there's near sight to Johnny Russell back to his left foot, no real pressure on the ball, he is able to flick. The ball comes off the back of Read Baker. Whiting eventually finds the foot of Alex Rolldan deep on the right hand side, just clips it

up towards his brother Chris in off his chest. Pressure from Libold knocks it down the line as to find Ruy Diaz collected by the back line of Sporting KC. So let's get your line up for Brian Schmetzz eleven coming out in the second half. Stepan Frying Gold back four, Alex rolled on, Jeamar Reagan, Read Baker, Whiting, Vargas and Joe Paolo in the middle of the field. Roll done on the right, Rosneck and the ten Morris on the left and Ruy Diaz as you're number nine for Sporting KC. Four three

three for Peter Vermese's squad. Timilia in goal, about four of Davis Castellanos, Fontess, Liibold, Tommy Rodoya and Rodriguez in the middle of the field, and then Shallowy Poldo and goalscorer Johnny Russell up front Tommy Fines. The balltop of the box is shallow way stripe by Polino over with the top goal kick Sounders here in the fiftieth minute, Sporting case one sounders one Steve zac

Quani and he's been very quiet. Polido has to be said. But I also think for Sporting Kansas City, you've seen this opening five minutes, they're gonna go for it. It's a team that feels they need to put an end to this seven game losing streak, and so they're gonna come in the front foot. Theyve had a couple of opportunities already, which is gonna open up them on the backland For the Sounders. We're seeing a replay hill of Jordan Morris on the last attack and it's what you want to see. One

v one B direct B directs. If you lose the ball up there, it doesn't matter and take the right back on. He did a good job put a dagsboard into the box. It was only rolled in the box and it eluded him and Sporting Kandas City survived. But I think as this game goes on, it's gonna be very open. I don't think or get the sense that either of these teams want to settle for the draw. Sounders have

the ball with Jordan Morris. This near started the left back to Rosnek almost scored in the first few minutes of this game, went in on goal eight yards out. Tight ang, yes, but it's quality. Blaze it over

the crossbar could have got the Sounders on the board very early. We talked about how important it was for Ryan Schmittzer's team to get off to a good start, especially against a team that is struggling like Sporting KCR lost this last seven games straight, winless in their last ten, Sounders coming in off a streak of one loss in their last nine. Rosneck goes back, tries to win the header. Vargas did pick it up, but an advertent collision from

Rosneck on the foot of Rodriguez middle of the park. It's going to be a free kick for Sporting KC talked about Peter Vermese and his influence on this squad. Of course, that they're set up to be successful. The stadium, the training complex, of course, one of the original teams in MLS, the Wizards. Of course, if we remember that those incredible jerseys from the mid nineties, blazoned in a bunch of different colors. Yeah, it

was a massive but I've feed him both. But before they still were in that sort of baseball stadium where the pitch was that built almost diagonally and it was so hard to actually know where the out of bounds nine was. All of that. So I was one of the happy guys when they moved into this new state. It was much better. It comes spawning case of the chest of Tommy just to flick it over the top. Yema and Stephan Fry read the danger well. Stephan Fry dicked out all fluorescent yellow Tonight rolls it

out to Alex Roldan. She'd give away to shallowy sloppy by Alex Roldan whips it in towards Pallido finds the foot of Red Baker Whiting cleared not able to be controlled by Rosnek. Strike by Tommy ricocheted off. Obed Vargas comes out to light bold far side the Kansas City left. They're attacking the goal to our right. Fontest is going to roll it all the way back to Timmelia, who's been It's made some mistakes this year, giving away some sloppy goals.

Clears his lines this time as rolled on, makes no mistake, steps in, wins. The header goes over the far touch line. It's gonna be a throw in for Sporting KC. I think that's the first time I've seen Peter for me smile. I don't think I can't remember ever seeing him actually smile. So we just got a shot of it. Especially during the game. He's usually so so intense, so I don't think I would have seen that before. He always looks so well dressed as well. Though.

It comes Johnny Russell ball into the foot of Rodriguez, strike blocked by Jackson Reagan, clip back in eventually cleared off the shin of Alex rolled on, good old shinner clearance finds JP Christian Rolldon slashing down the right hand side. He's got the legs on. Label tries to push him in. Lebel uses all his experience, just steps in between, rolled on and the ball goes

over. It's gonna be a free kick for Sporting KC deep in their defensive half of the field remains one one, and I don't think the Sounds will stay this way for long. Just starting to see the pan of the second half. It's boy in Kansasity on the attack. Sound is trying to get out, but Raul Rudiaz is very isolated and took Christian or Done trying to make a sixty yard run from very deep in his own half to offer some

kind of support and outlet. Otherwise it's only roll up there. So for the Sounders, either you get more numbers around Rowl, or you make a change or you bring on some guys fresh legs off the bench, you can cover a bit more ground, or goes into Poledo bounced around Sounders eventually clear. Their lines will sloppy in this start. The second half of the Sounders aren't able to get a foothold of this game. Ruy Diaz rochesa wriggle free

one by Laybold that goes over the far side. It's gonna be a Sounders throwing the steve. Sounders need three points, of course, I need to start getting up the table. They're in tenth position right now, only four games in MLS today. If they win, their leap frog Portland into ninth place, into a playoff position, which will feel really good and drive Portland

back down. Pauland have been prolific this year, scoring goals thirty two goals scored, but they've also given up a bunch of goals thirty two goals against Sounders coming to this game tonight, nineteen goals scored, nineteen goals against. Both teams have gold differential of zero that retains right now. Sounders, having conceded one tonight, scored one tonight. Jordan Morris bundles over Pallito middle of the park free kick for Sporting KC. Well Sounders FC soccer is presented by

a provident Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Fifty fifth minute Children's Mercy Park here in Kansas City means one to one one nine fifty KGr am. Wherever you listening to us, a chance synk us up with Apple the car our on a nice walk and this gorgeous Seattle weather summer is now upon us. Hopefully it's here to stay. Readbaker, what just bundles the ball over on this near side. It's going to be a throwing deep in Sounders defensive

half of the field for Sporting KC. Well go short finds Jake Davis being right back today, flicks in to Polito, backs into Jackson Rega, ricochets off, goes over of the Sounders over the end line. It's gonna be a corner kick for Sporting KC. And it's not quite an onslaught, but it definitely is a steady building off pressure that's going one way right now.

It's one way traffic in a Sporting Kansas City. Asking the questions of the Sounder is they begin to find ways into the box and getting the board into the key. Guys Plios had a few more touching and involvement in the second half. So for the Sound, it just you want to keep dropping too deep and eventually allow Hamsporting Kansas City the chance to get in around you eighteen yard box as much as they have been. Sixth corner kick for Sporting KC

whipped in, headed up and away by Red Baker. Whiting finds the foot Johnny Russell with no pressure again and Steve go back to the goal that Johnny Russell scored. It was Palito got the ball in the box, no pressure, ball was laid off Johnny Russell from with his left foot. His experience at Pete Feugh mentioned at halftime, no pressing on the b all feels like the Sounders need to play a little tighter. Yeah, especially in the defensive

third of the field. I think the backland at times when Sporting Kansas City is getting into the final third, it's a bit too deep right almost right on top of Stephan Fry and it's allowing Palito to receive board back to go inside the six yard box. You know that can't be happening. So I think for the Sound is engaged a little bit higher, be a bit aggressive,

leave space and behind. I don't think Plito's running away from Jackson Reagan or from Yemar and Read Baker White and show and you can go talk to Tall with Johnny Russell, so that throat of him behind isn't as strong as it could be. I think therefore the Sounders can engage a little bit higher Read Baker Whiting drops it off. A little flick by JP down the line collected by Read Baker Whiting right in front of the Sounders substitutes here on this

left hand side. A little step up by Read Baker. Whiting does well with his left foot towards the front corner of the six yard box couldn't be collected by ral Ridiez, cleared by Sporting KC, but finds the foot of Rosneck there's near side the left, just in front of the Sounder's bench goes back to Jackson Reagan. We mentioned it in pregame. Jackson and Knew, who both at fault for giving the ball away cheaply at times early in the

game against RSL sounds weren't punished here they come far side. The right driving forward is Vargas just sliding password, Rodriguez back to Ruy Diaz, goes down. Challenge by Sporting Casey brought down Ruy Diaz. We'll see if they take a listen in his air piece. Game goes on Tommy this near side, rolls it out to Johnny Russell, picks it up one v one versus read Baker White and decides to drive forward inside the box. Good defending by Reid,

goes down, goes over the end line. It's gonna be a seventh corner kick for Sporting case But we'll see if the referee takes another look at this one. Yeah, and it's got it's got to be checked. It was a good attack by the Sounders. An or but does very well here, just lets the backband collapse, picks up Rudiaz who gets to touch first. We're gonna just see another angle here. And now that's a good tackle.

I think that'd be again. So the criteria is a clear and obvious error, and I don't think that is a clear and obvious era of what's going to be checked. But I do think Castavanos does do a good job of just porking it just in front of roll dead. It wasn't a dive there was contact, but definitely got the board first. Yep, referee push. It keeps the game going at a little listener's earpiece. Nothing given.

Corner. Kitt comes in punch with the left hand of Stephan Frye and then on the second attempt collects it easily, demanding his players move up the field. I'll give you a little geer because Sep and fryget little shoulder barge into the back of it was shallow Wei, but there come the sounders. JP cross of the half way line far side the right shore ball into rosneck pressure from that man. Castellanoso made that strong challenge on Ruy Diaz, that fair

challenge. It comes. Vargas really established himself this season. Felt like it was going to be a competition between a Tensio and Vargas, and the combination of Vargas is strong play. Tensio picking up an injury at the wrong time for him. He's really allowed Vangets to establish himself both in the center of the park alongside JP, but also in a higher position on the right. And it's nice to see these young players who look at the bench tonight filled

with young players. It's just a factor of can these young players now impact the game when they come off the bench. I think that's the key. I think as a young player you come into a team, the first thing is you just don't want to miss anything up. They want to make mistakes. You want to be competent. The next phase is can you actually impact the game? Can you make a difference? Can you be a reason why the team is winning? And I think the field the sound as players,

it's a very young bench. They've done the first part where they can come in. They're adequate, they're competent, but you're now looking for what Vargas has done read bake Away in to an extent where they actually go beyond just not making mistakes and actually impacting the game as well. Let's get the bench for the sounds. Andrew Thomas the goalkeeper Leo two four assists in the game last year here in Sporting KC, Josh Atensio, Tevez, Rothrock and Tino

Lopez gets a chance on the bench. Baker Labor Massovski fell given by the referee and a yellow car to read Baker white and got little tie Onto Russell clattered into the back of the spawning KC number seven clear and obvious. Just rake those studs down the back of the calf. I don't mind that he's been aggressive with Johnny Russell. When I think the two times Johnny tried to take him on, Read Baker White Sewan, he can say, step for

step is defended very very well. Now again the advantage we have as offensive players is Russell, and he has to get it right once and reconn't afford to get it wrong even once. And so as well as he's defended, he's going to do. Johnny Russell has the magic, just needs one moment, a bit of space. So Read has to stay locked in. And now it's going to be difficult to do it with having to be extra cautious on the yellow. Johnny Russell fifty nine goals on his Sporting KC career,

second all time. And guess who's number one. Certain precky nine seasons KC wasn't a bad player goals and assists seventy one goals, ninety eight assists in his time here in Kansas City. I remember playing with Preky when I was in Sporting KC for a preseason, and you could just see things and nobody else could to just felt like you could get the ball off him. He's not super fast, but then you could. The ball gets ripped it towards the six, flapped up by mely A top of the boxes. Vargas strikes

it over the top. He had an option to his right, decided to shoot gold kick remains one one. I think if Vargas' first touch is good, to take the shot. But it was not a good first touch. I think at that point slipped the board out wide to Christian Road done. But in the second off more than the first half we've seen really bakeaway and getting forward. It's been a difference. It sounds look a lot more dangerous

with the youngster get into the final third. As it came back to Vargas there the first touch is not good enough to set himself up for the shot. What you've got to do there is later bought out to Christian Rodan and keep your tag going. Good played by Yemark takes it off the foot of

shallow Wi broughts it all the way back to Stephan Fry. Yeah. It was Christian Rolldan sitting on that right hand side, just standing there waiting for the ball never came comes Jordan Morris just strength and powered blazes past Davis outside the foot ricochets of Castellanos where Doya just cushions it back, but sloppy pass

forces Davis Beck slides it into the foot of Rodriguez. Well played by Davis and Rodriguez as Russell shifts it from center to the far side, the left to Lee Bold who finds the foot of Tommy again, time and space for Tommy to pick his head up. Switched the point of attack center to this near side, the right to Rodriguez to Russell, who's starting to get more involved. What's support in case he certainly had one of the oldest starting elevens

in MLS. Johnny Russell started to feel that age as he tries to blaze past Red Baker. Whiting isn't able to do it many times this evening, but gots the all important touch. As we mentioned about Jordan Morris Lowis, Sounders play with touches in this game, but the really important touch was the goal that he scored in the first half. Remains one to one here. That ball down line to the Pallido, isn't he able to control it? Goes over the far touch line. We are throwing for the Sounders. We'll

see they've had ten days off. Yeah, you'd expect them. At the point in the season we are, these players should be ninety minutes fit. Read Baker, Whiting maybe less so he might be kind of managed. And Cody Baker, of course sitting in the wings. That can come on as a like for like switch. But you expect the experienced players tonight to see

this game out as best they can. I think so. I think branch Mensol only makes a change here if he has to in terms of taking off these key guys, and that'll be a tactical reason there, or if someone does run up of Gus. But the team you again to take you the season where you've got to push through. You need the results you mentioned earlier. You just got to find a way to get the three points here. It's a very tight MLS table already and it's only going to get title.

Russell Gison comes back on his left foot, doesn't try to take on Read Baker. Whiting slots on the line towards the inline. Shallowy comes off the chest of Jackson Reagan. Another corner kick for Sporting KC eighth corner kick on the game. Sounders have yet to get a corner kick, so starts to show what Sporting Casey have done since going down a goal. It's gonna be on this near side. Sporting Case is right with the left foot of Johnny

Russell's gonna whip this ball in packed six yard box. He's driven in, flicks on well at the front post, headed clear by Alex, rolled down the far side. Ninth corner kick now for Sporting Case coming up. A good delivery by Russell, but eventually good defending by the Sounders. Yeah, and he's putting a lot of good boards on their left hand on the right hand side with his left foot. Johnny Russell the sound a soul far I have stood tall and not bent, but you're giving up a lot of corner

sea. At some point you've got Phil Kansas. Do you get one? Rodriguez shifts it to the far side, Caslanos knocks it across, headed up and away by Jackson. Reagan fans the foot of Rodriguez again. This siding clips it into the middle of the park, up in the air, bounces through. Tommy is able to pull it down. Good defending by Rudie is coming back to do some of that dirty work as if Jordan Morris challenges Tommy,

a little step over by Tommy, challenged by JP comes across. He's talking about a shoulder and the shoulder felt like it was a put out of control free kick given dangerous position, possibly unnecessary on JP's part. We saw him in the first half do something similar com barreling across. Yeah, it's the force with which he comes across. Then, I think, you know, Tommy does well to buy the foul. They did well, told onto

the board, have pressure from Rudias, had pressure from Jordan. Morris kept going twisted turn in India and JP sort of bils him out and again it's a free kick in a very dangerous spot here. So far Kansas haven't been able to get their head first or too many by again the sounding if you keep giving a team these these these kinds of opportunities, the odds begin to go into their favor. Remains one one here Johnny Ross is gonna whip him. His left foot goes on top of se my friend Fry able to be

collected by the Sounders goalkeeper aventually quite comfortably. I don't think JP was going to get away with that one. The assistant referee was a yard or two away. They could probably see the eyes of JP coming towards him. He had his flag probably up before he even made contact. Jps an was shoulder and it was showed up. But the only issue was shoulder into chest. He pointed to his shoulder, didn't point to the air of the body that

he clattered into. Eric Tommy, that comes Jackson. Reagan had a conversation with Jackson a month or so ago. We talked about his plans for this year and how he wanted to evolve his game. I think he was just again be consistent, continue to be strong when his aerial duels, use his power and body, and we'd love to see Jackson get a few more goals

from set pieces with the size that he has. Johnny Russell's strides across the eighteen yard box, nobody eventually challenges, eventually gets turns by who's still in the deck, slow to get to his feet, whipped him by Davis of the chest of Polido, down to Rodriguez, clipped away by Shao Paolo because you're headed by Jordan Morris. Think it was fantastic. Came in, came

off the shin. Maybe if JP goes out in this near side the right for a throw in for Sporting KC five or six yards from the corner flag. It feels like Russell times can just kind of motion his way across. It was not until he got to the very top of the eighteen yard box that the EMR came in made the challenge. But seems to glide past four or five six Sounders players. Yeah, he did, and he's asking for a free kick there. He felt he was fouled by Yma. We haven't

seen a good look at the reaper. That would have been a freaking a very dangerous position. But Johnny Russell's influences growing. And you've got to say of the two right now, yes, the sound has had moments, but it's Port in Kansas City City who looked the more likely of the two really asking the questions. And I do wonder just depending on how fit he is when we'll see or two seem I guess the game built for him as you're

absorbing pressure and you want to get out in transition. Seems that a perfect player to really play balls in behind four and added dimension to you attack, especially against a player at Jake Davis. By design, he's a central midfield player, but has been asked to play right back this season. Fourteen of his first fifteen games played it right back. It comes that man, Johnny

Russell again just able to strike forward? Is that any pressure? Easy ball into Shallowy strike by Paulina good saved by Stepan Frye, top of the box. Good play by Sporting Kansas City referee allowed the player to go on. Then she saved by Stephan Frye. Shallowy still on the deck. Heavy challenge on the top of the box remains here in Sporting KC one one nine to fifty KGr am again it's Russell, Steve is able just to kind of motion

forward, not real pressure. He's able to carry at twenty thirty yards, simple ball into Shallowy with checks and Ray who came clattering into the Sporting KC number ten. Yeah, and he's growing in influence on Russell. He hasn't got much change out of read Bicker Whitting on the right hand side here,

and so he's beginning to roam and go inside at times. And on that occasion there and again a little bit of extras from Yama and Johnny Russell here, I'm not I would love to know what language they're talking, but it's definitely not a friendly conversation at all. Well, I can't imagine Johnny Russell's going to back down fiery Scott that he is from Darby County. Derby County back in twenty eighteen and they'll often see Yamar that enemy get to that level.

Yeah, so we really wondering what it was. I think John Russell still going back to the earlier drid but when he thought he was fouled and that was Yemo would a challenge and he still hasn't let that goal. You really believes he was fouls. I think Yam was pleading his case and saying it wasn't a foul. So I think that's what that little conversation there is about. I think Amo was a little slow to get up on his feet

and maybe they're followed through by Johnny Russell that Yemo didn't like either. So see a couple of changes for Sporting case and Shelton one of those players about to come on the field. It's more of a missed time challenge. We see the replay on our monitor by Jackson Reagan. The referee gave the advantage and Shallowe is going to be is that potentially stretched off the field. Here the cleats of Jackson Reagan goes into shallowy referees got a yellow card in his

hand. Let's get you some of the scores around the league. New England get an elusive win one nil against New York Red Bulls in the seventieth minute. Saint Louis City nil, Portland Timbers nil, Minnesota one, Dallas one, Minnesota United. Of course, the next team that Sounds will face at home next week in our fiftieth anniversary celebration. Please come out support the team, support all those alumni that are going to be coming onto the field,

and of course here at Sporting Case supporting Case one Sounders one. In the seventy second minute, Jake Davis comes off the field. It's gonna be Kyrie Shelton. He's gonna slide in. He's been playing some time at right back, typical, a more offensive minded player. Rodriguez is gonna come off the field. Nandez comes on the field, so Peter Verme is making his changes. See just down on the monitor. Hear Russell and the Yema getting into

a little bit pushing a shove. Yellow card for both players. Jema and Johnny Russell. And that is an SGB yellow card. When a foul is called, SGB trial lawyers are here to help, is it SGB dash law dot com. Jordan Morris has at this near sight the left picked up by the substitute Shelton. It's back to Castellanos. He's gonna slice it up and away. And there's the other substitute of Vargas that came on the field for

shallow we who hobbled off with the assistance of the medical staff. No two minutes needed for any of the players coming on the field play got injured, was a little card and of course went off the field for a substitution as well. So you're in the seventy third minute. Sounders continue to absorb pressure. I'm talking about bending, not breaking, Steve. It feels like the sounders at times do kind of bring it on themselves. They drop back into

kind of a deeper position and that's waiting exactly. A second yellow is like Livia red, He's off. That's what that first shollow was. Yeah, that's why it became dangerous because when you do that, you're now walking a tight rope. And on this occasion, the youngster I mean, leads referee with no choice, leads refree with absolutely no choice. There is tough, nothing malicious, nothing intentional there. But when you pull a player back like

that, you're asking for an early barth. And that's exactly what read Baker Waitne' getting here with Baker Whiting is a really good game. It won't be one versus Johnny Russell. It was a ball that got popped around him, a little pull of the shirt if you look down on the monitor and the replay, easy decision for the referee. It was a one two punch, two quick yellow cards for Baker Whiting. And these are the type of lessons of young kids gonna learn. Yeah, And we saw Jackson reg and go

through it a couple of years back. I think it was when against Portland Timbers and he got a red card there with a poor challenge at the half foy Land. He's learned from that, and I think read Baker wai and once you're under yellow, how you defend has to change. I mean, at that point you take a chance that the winger beats you, you let him be you, and then trust that your center backs will do some covering.

But that second yellow red card also signals the n for Rudiaz who's now been sacrificed as Sounds down to ten men and Cody Baker comes in to give cover. Defensively, it's not been a good season so far for the Sounders and red Cards. We'll go short to and then it brought it back to Johnny Russell. It's gonna clip it towards the back post. Sound is gonna have to defend. Well, now fifteen minutes or so of regular time plus whatever stop it. The ball goes in to Polito headed clear, top of

the box finds Shelton try to riggle free Good defended by Morris. Was it back clear by Cody Baker who came on the field just a minute or so ago for ral Rudi has quick change by Brian Schmetzer trying to show up that back line. So Cody Baker's gonna slot in that left back spot. We talked about read Baker White potentially being on a minute's count. I would imagine Steve he was right there at that point where he could have got changed out.

And I wonder, when you've got a yellow card, if that'd be a subday'd make because if you're thinking of play against Johnny Russell when some of the you're you're gonna be put institute, Well, you're gonna have to defend you. We're gonna have to make challenges. It just was a tighter up that's really hard to walk as a young player. And I'm surprised maybe that we didn't see him just subbed off after that yellow card and pot Cody Baker,

who also is more than capable from that left back position. Sporting case he have it ten men now for the Sounders behind the ball. Red card by Read Baker White get here in the seventy fifth minute, remains one to one. Early goal by Jordan Morris got the Sounders on the board, quick response by Johnny Russell and Casey and here we are fifteen minutes or so of regular time remaining. Whatever the referee will add. It's been some stoppages,

shallow, we went off the field injured. God the medical staff came on and of course the red card as well. So it sounds gonna have to defend. Now I have to defend strong Bargas picks it up. He was the man that shifted the ball around Read Baker, Whiting and sometimes see if it's not just your legs to go when you're tied in. It's his first start, of course, his first meaningful minutes back in the thirty in MLS action as Russell triest to skip by, Yemark drives it in top of the

box, slice blocked by GP. Top of the box. Shelton's gonna pick it up this near side the right, challenged by a Roznak comes back to help, headed clear by Jackson Reagan, bounce in the mid the field where Dyer knocks it back. There's gonna be much of this now in these final minutes of the game. Sounder is defending and they find something in transition.

Jordan Morris now playing a little higher up the field. We've seen this before when red cards have happened, of course, Vancouver two red cards, where it was Alex Roldan and Jackson. Reagan attends you of course, two quick yellows, it's Colorado. It comes. Hernandez rolls out to Shelton, back to Hernandez, Sounders defending top of their box, back into a four four one formation, ball guts rolled back to Stephan Fry launches it long, bounces

through to Castellana center of the field. Did it roll its out to the far side the left, drives forward, slips it by toward Johnny Russ a little back. He'll finds Yam ask for a handball, asked for something cleared not very well for the Sounders. Here comes Sporting Casey Hernandre's this near side the right to Vargas the substitute little step over. Cody Baker closes down, comes back to Shelton, Dyer and Support decides to go back to Vargas.

This near sight the right ten yards from the end line, back to Shelton, top of the box, twenty five yards out the further Tommy slices it just over the top, skips on top of the net. Goal kick for the Sounders remains one one here and Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, nine fifty kid am Steve zac Quani. Yeah, and I think it's a tall task for the Sounds. Now you're gonna be a lot of holding on,

a lot of defending sporting Kansas City. Have the momentum, have the impetus to go and seek that way in for the Sounders, you're really hoping that you can maybe catch them on Transition is the one we'll run for Jordan Morris. At some point, do you still bring on LEO two where your best bet is going to be to absorb pressure and try and get on in transition

by absorbing pressure. Won't be easy because sport in Kansas City are showing that they're going for this right now, and the sound is really under the cushier. Let's copyrighted audio cast have made League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. Seventy ninth minute, here remains one one sounders down a man roll Don rolls it down the line ten yards from the end line is Jordan Morris. No players in

green inside the box. Now they come Vargas inside the box, little double touched back to Morris, to Christian roll. Dan runs the lone player in the box, Vargas in support. The triangle of players turned the roll down, Brothers and Vargas. It's gonna be Christian Roland's and whip it in headed clear by Shelton, Cody Baker picks it up, comes all the way back to Jackson Reagan. But we talked about it. It's not just a physical

fatigue you can get. It's also the mental fatigue at that part of the game for Redbaker White, the mental SIGND because again that's the thing is is it defend that you have to be good all the time. It's NonStop, and then you can he made two three really good plays, but every play has to be good. You're not allowed to have one mental lapse. And in the end there, once he got that first shotw card, You're not playing on a tight rope. It's gonna be very hardcore to be engaged,

have to make challenges, have to get your time right. Veteran players gonna have to struggle with that as well. And so I think in the end there for readbak away and we've experienced we let the player goal and trust that your center backs recovered Vargas down the line to Hernandez. Back to Vargas who is going to play at square, to Tommy top of the box, just dances around, get some space. Challenge by Cody Baker, back to Hernandez.

Good defending by JP, just smashes it out in a way. We're throwing on this near side ten yards from the end line, right in front of the system. Referee goes back to Vargas, picks it up. He was able to turn fine Hernandez twenty five yards from goal, goes to Fontest now involved and the attacking third of the field is the case center back all into the foot of Polido, just looking to Peter potentially get dragged down. There's a couple of hands on the back by Yama, Yama pulling up his

shirt pointing some of the claw marks from Polido. Someone is able to sound as able to build again. Eric Tommy missed the last two games. We'll see out this game. I think Peter verme is, just like Brian Schmittz, is going to try and lean on these experienced players to get them out of this mess that they're in right now. In Sporting Casey dead bottom in the Western Conference standings, eleven points on their season right now, sixteen games

played, we said thirty two goals conceded, twenty five goals scored. His JP is going to make his move off the field. It's going to be substituted for a tencio shrug in his shoulders. I know there's that ten second count now for subs just to kind of expedite the game as JP comes off. It's not been I think since DC United he's played a full ninety so JP feels like seems that JP puts that eighty eighty five minutes. Last time, it was like ninety one minutes he came off the field. That was

surprising when I for today, he's covered a lot of ground. We just saw in the last Kandasity attack. He was the one who came across to make that clear inside it was really gassed, and I think it's just fresh leaned ten ten men, yeah, ten men, you're gonna cover a lot of ground. Oftensial you know, has has a long stride. It could really get about the picture. You just need his physical presence maybe here and JP just that the tank is empty at this point. Challenge by Vargas a

little dragged by Jordan Morris. Refrigue is a free kids to Sporting KC. And maybe it's atential has the legs to get up and support in the attacking third. Can he be a potential player to get on the end of something. The ball gets riched and towards the front of the six, cleared by

Curdie Baker over the end line. It's just gonna be another corner kick for Sporting kc the precious building, and it's been this way the whole second half, even before the sound is going to ten men, you felt that Kansas had more of the momentum. The Sounds attacks were few and far between, had a couple of moments, but especially going down to ten men. Now

it's gonna be a lot of this absorb absorbed. And I've just mentioned bend and trying not to break left hand side outswing on the foot of Johnny Russell. Tenth cornerkick for Sporting Casey. Sounders defend well again, that's this near sight to Tommy Cut towards his weaker left foot, but he whips a good balling towards the back post, headed up and away by Alex Rol darn Can

Vargas save it. Could do nothing more than just launch it down the line, does a good job, so just a referee puts his flag up, went out and then back in. Sounders live to see another attack remains one one here eighty third minute. Sounders need to hold strong and this should be a good solid point for the Sounders and it yes, Sporting Casey on a tough run of this last ten games or so. It's a tough place to come is sporting kcs. Vargas just challenges it. Coddy Baker knocks it over

the end line. It's actually gonna be a goal kick given by the referee. Coddy Bacon needs to be a little bit careful. It was Vargas. It went one v one again. It came off the heel of Vargas, goodws by the referee, came off the toe of Cody Baker, off the shin of Vargas over the end line. Goal kick remains one one. Yeah, in the end, the young Sounder does a good job defending that. But that's what Vargus would do. We've aready saw him get Rid Baker en

into trouble. He's very direct. He's gonna drive out you cause you problems. A bit of what we see at times of leal true from the Sounders where it's a bit unorphuldo space, just very unpredictable and just direct. And Cody Baker, you have to get your timing absolutely right well, sound As fans, if Sounders FC scores any time after the eighteenth minute during a home match, you'll have the chance to win. Free Lake SIG's surgery from Sharp

Vision, Modern Lake Sick and lens. Sign up today at sounders fc dot com slash laser focus. So let me let me ask you this. Stephen Grenadad was at a center back, So one v one, your left back looks like he's stranded on an island somewhat. The center back, in my opinion, needs to slide across and almost create that protection. So when Vargas gets his head up, he doesn't see space behind Cody Baker, but he sees Jackson Reagan. That would maybe change his mind in terms of what he

does. I think absolutely, as a winger, if I see that, then I'm thinking twice about going And I think if you're playing two v one at center backs, you're defending Pallido and he's alone. It's not too straight. It's not the old school days where you see a four four too often and you're both occupied. I think this one setback can release and come across. Yama comes across, alex O'donald's comes across. You leave the far guy

completely open. I think that's the way you kind of nullify that and give support to your left back, because leaving them one v one you can be the best one one defender. It just takes one time to get your time in wrong as we saw Readbaker, why in and you could be in trouble. Masovski comes on the field for Raw Ruydiez like for like switch and then Antino Lopez comes on the field for his debut. Bor goes into Vargas towards the end, light strikes it and it's fumbled in by Stepan Fry on the

front post. In the back of that it goes and that Sporting Casey goes up here. Two goals to one, and that man's been dangerous. Vargas is come and he's been dangerous. We just we's just mentioned him. He caused the red card and now he gets the go ahead goal. Here. We're gonna see a replay, but again it's one that you're gonna have to think that Stephen Fry is going to one back. He squeezes in at the

near post. But Varga's very very direct. He changed again for Sporting Kansas City because he's been very very dynamic direct, receives the board from Shelton. It's in behind the blindside of Cody Baker. You can't allow that inside run and I think when Vargas strike this Jackson Rager is coming across. It may take a deflecsh of the Sound a center back and Vargas is kind of a cross shot and it ends up squeezing in between Stephen Fry's legs gets a hand

to it. Not enough yet again and the Sound is now two to one, and I will say defensively, that's a very poor goal to give up if you're the Sound is there just because the run behind Cody Baker. You can't allow that inside run. And then Stephan Fry at the near post threw his legs although he gets a hand to it. Sporting Kansas City up to

one and the Sounders are just shifted to a five at the back. Lopez for his Sounders MLS debut, So can to the young man, the former Duke University product defiance player came on the field for his MLS DEBI for the Sounders. Sounders went into a three of the back dropped into a five. Now the Sounds is gonna go chase this game. Don't need to put the ball out. There's a play on the deck for a sporting case. It's

libold. Sounders don't need to put it out. That's not going to help their whole Tager being the most unlike team in MLS, especially if they score right now, all into a tent yos key drive, it comes off Fontas is gonna be a corner kick, the first corner kick for the Sounders. A few booze ring out. But let's remind everybody the Sounders are not obliged to have to kick the ball out. Looks like it's more of a bit of cramp for Libel, there's he stretches on the deck. So Sounders did

the right thing. They kept going. Shot by a tenier, goes over the end line, block by sporting case to be a first corner kick for the Sounders. You know, I think sometimes as a team you can accept when the opponent is just really crafted in the attack, a couple of given goals, clever plays and they break you down a score. But that sort of goal you train for that. You do so many attack versus defense drills.

Where can the back for stay compact? So I think, for holy bake, I have a look over your shoulder when Vargas takes off to make that that Passcorse on your inside shoulder. You got forced everything to the outside in that part of the pitch. And that was disappointing. And once Vargas gets into that end there, the angle should not be able to find the back of the net, but somehow he does so. I think just for the sound is a poor goal to concede because Kansas City did not have to

do anything special as ordinary to get their go ahead goal. It's like it's going to be a lightful like switch, the light bulb's gonna go off with a little bit of tramp. It's gonna be the song that's gonna come on the field to play on our left hand side to start the last game. Coming off the bench tonight, you certainly feel like Brian Schwetz will be seething right now. It was this time last year when in Sporting KC had gone

ten games without a win. They came into Lumenfield got that elusive win that kick started their season. In that same spot today, ten winless, lost the last seven straight games, Sounders down to ten men. Now they're down a goal. Can they find something from this set piece? Sporting Casey vulnerable at times from set pieces. Ball whipped him by Christian Walldog, ball down, headed down and away by Jackson. Reagan's asking for a little pushing the

back, nothing given by the referee. It comes Lopez this near sight the left to a tensio back to Lopez ball his Feet's got a nice strong right foot, does Lopez. Ball whipped him by a tensio headed up and away by Castellanos. Nick comes Vargas right in front of Brian Schmitz and the Sounders bench. Good defending by varg the other Vargas Obed Vargas. Referee calls a free kit. Looked like a very clean tackle by Obed. It's gonna be a free kick given by the referee. Yeah, we'll seen one more time

to replay it. It does a gap that opens up between ob Vargas and Cody Baker, Kansas City. Vargas exploits and there was no no deflection. It was a straight straight shot. And again Steph thriving for both goals today, you know. And that's the thing Steph Fris made so many big says over the years, but as a goalkeeper, any mistake there, the risk

is so high it ends up in the back of and there. So those are definitely two that he won back a lot of next for your Seattle Sounders that are at home for their fiftieth anniversary match against Minnesota United FC on Saturday, June fifteenth to seven thirty pm Pacific. Watch the match via the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen on ninety three point three KGr FM. The Providence, Swedish pre match show starts at seven pm. Sounders

trailing two goals to one. Here to get towards the end of regular time, see what the referee is going to add as sport in case he have the ball and they're attacking half of the field as near side the right goes into Poldo challenged world by Lopez, slight cleared by Cody Bacon. Not what the Sounders need right now. Seven minutes have added time, so to be expected with the type of decisions that happened in terms of foul on shallow we

it took him a little while to get off the deck. Sounders have some time. And let's not forget it was deep into the last game when RSL picked up their equalizer. The Sounders have seen it happen to them, and certainly the statistics are in the Sounders favor. It'sport in case you have done often well in the first sixty five minutes of the game outscoring teams nineteen to fourteen, but thereafter it've conceded seventeen and only scored five coming into today's match.

So Russell goes into the corner early to do that with six minutes remaining running clock here in the stadium, Russell just in the corner. It's challenged by Yama. There's two men coming together again or a free I think it's called a foul, yes, pointing to the deck. So it's gonna be a foul and a free kick for the Sounders. Very deep and they're half

of the field. But Steve we mentioned that Brian Schmetz is just probably sitting there just boiling up right now because they started off well, they got their goal, and then they gave up goals. It feels like the story of the season so far, where just goals that you wouldn't see typically be conceded of being conceded. Yeah, it is, and I think for Brian Schmetz that the game plan was correct. The Sounders started a game well, you get the goal in the way you'd have drawn it up, with Jordan Morris

making runs in behind. You get all of that, and I think since then they haven't really kicked on, you know, have not troubled this Kansas City, this questionable Kansas City back line, have not been putt nearly under enough pressure this afternoon. We've hardly called Meali's name, hasn't really been called into action. So I think it's been adequate for the Sounders. But for what this game was, for how poor defensively supporting Kansas City are, I

think you could have put a bit more pressure on them. And then at this point now for the sound of give up a bad goal and they're chasing it comes Cody Baker left hand side, drives forward inside the box towards the end like cuts it back, almost finds a tensio seemed like a symbol board that Cody Baker couldn't find the Sounder's number eight. The Sounders retain possession with oh Bed right hand side towards the top of the box, just clips it

around the song. The substitute wins the ball, well clears his lines, rolls into Polido, tries to flick it around the corner. Good defending by

Yamar just stamps on the back of the Sounders center back. Seemed to be a little bit of retribution on behalf on the part of Polido potentially stick it up for his captain Russell will free kick for the sound as far side there right right on the halfway line and could play by the Sounder Steve as Coddy Baker got the outside just wasn't able to connect with that cutback to a tensia. Yeah, that's a big, big chance. You don't get too many

of those down to ten men this stage of the game. If the pass was just a bit more accurate or to run from a tensial have to tell which the Sounders would have had a really big chance to get away, to steal a point and turn this what's looking now like a miserable evening into a decent one. Alex Holdonald was about to ye marm because all the way back to Stephan Frye, it's available on the far side the right. A gonna do is go launch it long, Oh, pull down ball. Bouncers in

the box. Referee gives a foul. It was maybe on a tensil top of the box by Shelton yellow card and that's an SGB yellow card or a foul is called SGB. Troyal lawyers are here to help visit SGB dashload dot com and it's a chance for the Sounders as they trail here two goals to one and this score up date is presented by Provident Swedish. Three minutes of added time to go. Nerves jangling for Sporting KC. Can the Sounders find a bit of magic here? Got a chance for maybe twenty two yards out

just left of center, a little bit further out. Actually it looked like it was challenged a little bit closer to the top of the box. Maybe the initial challenge was further out. It's godbe they roll darn brothers will see who's got the seniority here. It's decent way out twenty five twenty seven yards or so, ten yards outside the eighteen yard box. There's no way that war is ten yards back, and I think Ristian rod does making that point.

That's a short ten yards. They'll start to kind of nudge forward Alex Roodan over the top, wastive free kick. It's gonna remain here, sport in case two Sounders one. As we get here in the final two plus minutes of added time, the fans here at Children's Mercy Park on their feet. He's a guard gets some final instructions from Peter Vermese. He's gonna come on the field scoring. Of course, last year on this fixture the opening

goal before Jordan Morris got four unanswered. He comes on the field. Paulido has put a good shift in up front. He's going to come and take a break and sit on the bench. Well, don't forget. Sounders do come home. They've got four of their next five games are at home, winnable games Chicago, New England away at Houston, Minnesota United. Of course next week, Boll bounces through. Goda tries to pick it up. Good challenge by Cody Baker, sounds a little slow to retrieve it. Middle of

the park. Tommy gets it driving forward on his left hand side. Is Russell cuts it back. Stephan fry is able to collect it, save the corner kick. The Sounder's going to get one more chance here and clear their lines. Move up the field. Stephan Fryer drops on the deck, launches it long towards Christian of Roldan gets nudging the bat by basson foul. Silly foul by the substitute on the left downside. It's gonna be a chance for the Sounders now, to put in some real quality and get that big men

in the box. And this is it. We're into the final thirty seconds or soul here to sound. Is that what you'd want? A free kick with a chance to get the ball into the box, get your big lats forward, try and put as much pressure on media as you can deliver. You must be good. Or comes in. It is not even ten yards away. As a referee, let that go or gets blocked. They're knocked in and here come Sporting KC. It's gonna be alex Ordan collects it,

trying to get some support down the line. Ball stays in play. Nothing given by the referee of assistant a referee Johnny Russell's gonna clip it from this near side to the far side to a Garda Cody Baker asking for the flag to go up for an offside. Nothing given. Sounds need to press and push get here in the final seconds, but song far side the left have

it. Sounders now looks like they're accepting the fact that they're gonna go down here in Sporting KC's a Garda has He's gonna run into the corner one on one versus Vargas decides not to do that comes inside heavy touch? Is that gonna come back and hurt them? But he doesn't. They retrieve it. That's near side with Vargas comes back. Referee still not got the whistle in his mouth and the inside the way is Johnny Russell flicks it down the line

to Vargas to Johnny Russell challenged by Jackson Reagan. This near corner. He needs to clear his lines. He does, He finds with Yema when the Sounders get it up the field referee still not giving anything worth. Forty five seconds past the seven minute mark, the only player forward is Danny Massovski. Can he try and collect it? No foul and it comes off Massovski's shin

and there's a referees whistle in Kansas City. You're gonna celebrate. Fireworks go off and that's their first win in eleven for Sporting Case As a goal by Jordan Morrison the first half they got the Sounders on the board, and then two goals by Sporting Case, one in the first half by Johnny Russell from distance, and then Vargas in the eighty fifth minute gets the winner for Peter Vermes's team. Final Steve, your final thoughts, Yeah, I think that's

when they got away for the Sounder. If you look at the totality of the game, you know you're going to take the record aside. This was gonna be a tough game. This will never even be an easy place to play. But once you get your noses in front, I don't think from that point on the Sounders particularly manage the game well. And then the nature of the two goals, there's two goals that you don't want to get beaten

in the game by those types of goals. If a team really works well, when scores outstanding goals and breaks you down, you can accept it.

But I think the nature of the goals could have been prevented both times, and the pressure was not good enough on the Sounders on either occasion, and then the timing of the defensive compactness was not there for the second goal, and so I think you kind of gay that to support in Kansas City, we spoke about a team that conceded thirty goals already and we're not put under enough pressure. So definitely disappointing when I've got away for the Sounders. Well,

thanks to everyone involved in today's broadcast. Mitchell Bli here on the board, Keeley Dunning, Kevin Ka and of course the Sounders legend Steve zach Kuani. Sounders FC Soccer is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Postsmat Show starts now. So final from Kansas City.

Your Sounders have fallen tonight by a final score of two to one. This game went into halftime with a score of one point one goals in the twelve minute from Jordan Morris, the nineteenth minute from Johnny Russell, and then the second half was not good. We saw a red card from read Baker Whiting, we saw consistent pressure from Sporting Kansas City, and then in the eighty

fifth minute we saw a massive mistake from Stephen fry As. A shot from Vargas of Kansas City somehow gets through our goalkeeper and somehow gets through our captain and your Sounders despite a couple of chances late good chance on the left side for Josh Atensio from Obed Vargas, Cody Baker, excuse me, and unfortunately not able to find the winner. As your Sounders have fallen tonight. They

now go to five, two and three in their last ten games. And maybe the hardest part to swallow is the fact that Sporting Kansas City, with the win, get their first win since March thirtieth, their first win in eleven MLS games. Pete Fewing Jackson Feltzer for the postgame show. Pete, I since final whistle, I might have said about five words before we took the air. I mean, I really don't know what to say. There's a lot of converse we have to have on this postgame show, one very

very difficult one. We'll get to here in a little bit, but let's just start right now with your opening thoughts on this very very disappointing loss. Oh, the game can be cruel. It can be cruel, Seattle, It's unfortunate, you know. I think either Danny said it or Stevie said it that when Baker got his second yellow card, that you learn right. We saw Jackson Reagan go through that. The young man who was taken down,

I think it was Vargas was taken down. He was so elated that they got the second yellow, and that at that moment, Kansas City was putting Seattle under a lot of pressure. But then when we went to ten men, they're momentum even kicked up even more. So, Yeah, it's a tough one. And you know, I know that locker room is going to be dead silent because I thought, I thought Seattle honestly, once the yellow, the red card in the seventy fourth minute came, I thought,

okay, hold on for sixteen minutes. You get one point out of this. You can keep your head up. But that's it's a tough loss. And it is interesting. We said it in the pregame show. In MLS, any team can beat any team on any day, and well, but sure, but like this isn't This isn't top of the leagu versus the bottom of the league team. Yes, Kansas City's at the bottom, but Seattle right now is not even playing like a playoff team. That's just the reality

of it. We're not in a playoff spot. We don't hold the playoff spot. We're not playing like a playoff team. And frankly, yes we're five to one and three in the last nine. That was good points wise. I mean, you average that out over the course of a season, you're looking at near sixty points. That's great. But at the same time we talk about the form of this team, right not holding onto late leads,

and today, I mean this wasn't anybody can beat anybody. This was a home team at home I think against at one one and a half. You know what, we didn't say it, but I thought this, you know, very clear in my mind, this feels fair. This feels like it's gonna be a point of piece and two teams that are right neck and neck fighting for a playoff spot. It really comes down to that red card and a couple of mistakes in this match that costs two I think very even

teams when they're at eleven on eleven. Yeah, and that, and again that's why the game is so cruel. It does come down to one play here or one play there, a little bit of luck on one side. We were lucky at Saint Louis when Christian Roldan hits the cross and it deflects and goes in over the goalkeeper. And I think even Brian Schmitzer said that, you know, maybe that was the beginning of it, you know, and then you get unfortunate. I have never seen Stephan Fry have a ball

go through his legs like that. And I remember Casey Keller against this Sporting Kansas City team in whatever year twenty ten. Maybe ball goes past him and he goes to scoop it out of bounds and he scoops it into his own net, right, And I think everybody was shocked by that. That was something you'll never see. I've never you know. And he hit it well, it was a knuckle and it went through and it's unfortunate, you know. And I think I think Steph, Steph will raise his hand. You

mentioned he's the captain of course. Uh, he's gonna raise his hand in the locker room and and uh you know, and and you'll have the backing of Tommy du Trenhill, the black backing of his teammates. It was a rare one tonight, right. And but think how many times we missed. Albert Rusnik has a good opportunity skies it over the crossbar, has another good

opportunity skies it over the crossbar. The dilemma when you're the last guy is that is that if you're the last guy back the goalkeeper with the using using your hands and it gets through. Then it feels like a lot of pressure. But I know Brian will say you can't throw that all on Steph because we miss chances. So it's unfortunate it is. And and the young kid getting the second yellow for our red, yeah, you know that's a that's a teachable moment, as they say, but gosh daring it, it's cruel

game. The conversation between Brian Schmitzer and and Peter Urmes after the game, you could tell Peter was like, look, I know we're both in tough spots right now as far as where our teams are aut on the table, and sorry, we got we got the better half of it tonight. So a tough one. And now we're coming back home for what four games at home in five and we got to regroup, so that is a tough one. Let's say it is funny, how you know this year they haven't won

in would you say ten games? Right? They were eight eight losses and two ties. And last year is a similar thing. And I remember last year thinking I don't like this at all, especially out of Peter Burme's team, and with Johnny Russell and Palito those are good. Those are good players who aren't going to back down. Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Provident,

Sporting Kansas City get the win tonight two to one red card for Reed Baker Whiting puts Seattle at ten men and then a goal getting by Vargas of Sporting Kansas City there in the eighty fifth minute game gives them the two to one winner. Frye. We got to have a hard conversation that'll come up next on Sports Radio nine to fifty kr AM. score of two to one. Jackson Feltz and Pete viewing here. Pete, after a night like tonight, I like to have dessert before any veggies. I just want to dig into the chocolate cake. I want to get to the dessert. I want to feel good for a moment. So let's get to our Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match this game, the first twelve minutes were great. Sounders had chances, and then in the twelve minute Jordan Morris, who has been on a heater for the last four or five games

he scores on a great ball from Joel Paulo. Here's Jordan Morris one on more. Has he got a chance and he puts it in there, looks across to the assistant referee, no flag and that's the Sounders first goal and Jordan Moore us his fifth goal in Kansas City in the last two games, spawning casees Neil sound as one to play. The match is presented by Emerald

Queen Casino with the betting capital of the Northwest. Two things to talk about here a the great ball from dual Polo, the fantastic timing by both of those guys, and be the fact that you know, listen, a few games ago we talked about listen, Jordan Morris, we need more from you. Over the last few games we are seeing it from him. Yeah, I think you just told me three goals in four games. And it was

a It was a clinical finish. It was efficient. He didn't take an extra touch, he didn't get too close to Mila, you know, taking away his angle. He looked to Mela's left and then he and then he really he didn't tuck it away. He punched it into the back of the net to his right and so that was a great goal. Great pass from That's what we get. JP does two things really well. One he unlocks defenses. That was a great ball that unlocked the defense. And two on

the defensive side, he picks off a lot of passes. That was the first note I wrote about three minutes in JP picking off a pass. So and Jordan and he have a good connection together, and it was a terrific finish. Again. You know it's interesting, it's right down the middle of the park. Yeah, the wing. We need him on the wing to get our best eleven in there. But when he can float inside and get into that spot, he's money. That was a great goal. He burned

Saint Louis the same way, and it burns Kansas City to night. One was from Rusnak. Tonight was from JP. Just great and we need to see a lot more of that from Jordan and from everybody else offensively. So nice to eat some dessert their congratulations for Jordan on that goal and JP on

the assist. But this season, when the Sounders win, you'll win a free mix chicken the next day, exclusively in the McDonald's app with any minimum two dollars purchase down on the McDonald's app today and check out the deals waiting for you. Speaking of food, time to get to the vegetables, and time to get to a difficult conversation because you know, you look at social medi you know it's funny. I'm I'm I'm on vacation the next few days

with KJR. I'm taking next Monday through Friday off. I'll be back for the Saturday Minnesota broadcast the fiftieth anniversary match. We'll talk about that in a little bit. But I decided just a few minutes ago, I think I'm just gonna delete Twitter for the next six days. I'm just I'm getting out of town. I'm just gonna delete it. But I'm not deleting it yet because it does help, you know, just understanding what the fans are thinking,

what people are saying right now. And Pete, the conversation right now is about Stephen Fry because the reality is is that in the nineteenth minute, Johnny Russell shot from distance and we all set it halftime and we all agreed that's one Fry's gonna want back. That's a tough one for Fry. He you know, he should have made the play there and that's one he made

a few years ago. So that was already in the nineteenth minute goal and in the eighty fifth minute, you know, yes, and we'll were talking about it right after the final whistle about how Jackson Reagan could have helped and done more to not allow that goal. But also when the shots taken there from Vargas, that's a ball that Stephan Fry needs to get. He's at the near post there, it goes right at him and somehow skips by his chest. No matter how the shot, it didn't skip or anything, it

just got right by him. And the conversation is becoming with Stephan Fry having an increasing number of these moments where you go, oh, steph oh, you gosh, you should have made that play. There's been increasing number of that this year, and with Andrew Thomas on the rise and with him making big plays and making statements, the questions are starting to be asked and people are starting to say, start Andrew Thomas, bench to bench in the captain.

Yet he's done too much for us, you think about it. I've seen a replay of that goal several times now, probably six or seven times, and I've seen other goalkeepers around the World make that same kind of non safe right gets through the wickets. It's a well hit balls from a tough angle and Fry I went through. But I'm not ready to say he's not the guy. And I think about my coaching hat, and I think about what he's done, and I don't know that there's been too many of those

moments. I can't think of other ones that he's had this LA Galaxy fourth minute against Gabrielle Peck, who slides it past him in a similar way. Okay, okay, so yeah, I don't recall that one, but I trust you on that for sure. So I'm not quite ready for that yet. And I don't think the coaches are, and I don't I think the player still. Well, I'm trying to put my player hat on if I'm Christian Roldan or alex Or or Gomez Androtti. And we talked about this before

the game too. He needs a little more help from the guys in front. I think the the second goal, even though it went through his legs, was a tougher save than the first one, and I think Fry would say you should have made that first save. So I'm not ready for it yet. I don't think the coaches are ready for it. I don't think the players are ready for it yet. But I understand the question. Yeah,

I totally do. And that's good insight to you know, to get into the minds because obviously you're tight with guys like Tommy and Brian, you know them very personally, so getting into their heads, you know, understanding where they're coming from in these situations as well, and obviously knowing these players very you know, close as well. Let me let me play the other side. Let me play this side that says Andrew Thomas should be starting,

and and I listen, we're a few minutes out of this game. I'm not sure you know of I needed to take a few minutes to actually think if that's what I truly believe. But let me play the other side, because it's it's conceivable that driving home tonight, my long drive to Tacoma, I think to myself, you know what, I think it's time for a change. So let me play this side here, because you use the reasoning

here. He's done too much for us and he's the captain. Yeah, and my rebutt debate right now, My rebuttal would be just because a player has done so much for us in the past, why does that mean that he must start for us in the future. My second thing is we've seen Christian rolled on have the captain's arm band a number of times. We've seen

his impact and frankly others impact Roul Jordan, et cetera. Why is it not conceivable that a field player like like a Christian could take the captain's arm band if Andrew Thomas was to slide in, yeah, and I would be fine if Christian was the captain as well, and I think had he been healthy all season and last season, he probably would be. So it's not so much just that he's the captain and he's got the arm band. You're right, there's other capable people that could take that, yeah, and do

a good job with it. And frankly, I think coaches would prefer not to have a captain as a goalkeeper because you're not in the middle of the park. Correct. So, but I think I look at the the whole season and again I go back to we haven't been playing well in front of

him. I thought the Johnny Russell shot should have been blocked or cleared, and and then we've dilly dalied early in the season and given up some goals where all we had to do was kick it out and and then I gets shoved right down the right down, you know, the middle of the eighteen yard box. So I look at it. I'm not quite ready yet, and I totally understand why you're saying it. I'm not on the social media listening to it right now. Idea good idea, and I feel for stuff.

He's he's he's a very, very capableie. That's why they signed him for another two years. Andrew Thomas is proven in the US Open Cup in some of the games, he's really good. Yeap, yep. And I like him as well. And but I think right now you I would say, I personally would stick with Fry another game, see where we are.

That's what I would do. I think I think that's fair. I think that's that's a fair take, especially since the next game is the fiftieth anniversary game, you know, when you're celebrating the fifty years of the club. I don't think you bench you're, you know, one of the greatest sounders of all time for your fiftieth anniversary match. I think that's completely out of

the question. I think this is more of a general thing of you know, if Fry continues to have these moments over the next few games, do you have to make the switch at some point. I think you're right for for Minnesota coming up in a week. I don't think you can possibly make a change there past, you know, just because of because of what the game means. And I know some fans will be like, but it's just another game. It's not. It's a fiftieth anniversary game. It's a big

deal. It's a big celebration. You can't do that to Stephan Fry. But let's just see how that goes. Yeah, And and because we've consistently seen great things out of Andrew Thomas. Last year in Tacoma, he was exceptional. This year obviously, we've seen in the Open Cup exceptional. Right. So it's it's these things that that are making you know, I'm not sure if it's the closest Maybe it is the closest competition at any one spot on the team right now. There's there's a few guys in there. Read

Baker Whiting. We thought he could have taken a step towards knew who Maybe he did, but the red card's tough to ignore after this one, but that I think, and let me see, we'll wrap it up with this. Would you say that goalkeeper A should be or B is a full on competition right now? It always is, Yeah, it always is. Yeah, it has to be is more more now than before though, Well, I think Steph would be the first to say, hey that I got to do better. I should have say both those. Yeah, and he knows.

I mean we talked to Brian sometimes He's like, hey, we got to win, you know. He says, this is a competitive league. We got to win. I'm the head coach. We got to win. And the prize says, hey, I got to get shutouts. Right, So it's always going to be a competition, and you're always looking for answers. I mean, right now, record wise, what are we four seven and three? Is that what it is? It's we are now? We are four to seven. I can't I can't see my own hand ready.

I saw it a few minutes ago on the graphic and I've immediately forgot it. We are four seven and six, yeah, four seven six, Yeah. You always have to ask questions when you're in that situation. Right, Winning covers a multitude of sins, right and uh, but right now they're they're going to hop on a plane and get back and and that will be the discussion that coaches are having. But it's everywhere across the field, right He had chances to put shots away and we didn't do it. The dilemma

for Fry is he's the last line so when it goes in. But I I respect him too much as a goalkeeper and a leader and that I wouldn't pull that trigger yet. But but he would be saying. Fry would be saying, I understand people saying what they're saying. Yeah, I think, and he's and he'll and he'll raise his hands in the locker room say absolutely, I gotta save those and yeah, he'll be he'll be sick about oh

yeah. And and I listen, I I no matter, no matter my take on the situation, I think we can all agree Fry right now. We got to feel for him because he right now is in a very tough spot flying back from Kansas City. After those two goals go in the back of the net and it's a two to one win for Sporting Kansas City. We'll take a break and talk about, uh, the game ahead for the Sounders. It is the fiftieth anniversary match against Minnesota. We've talked about the

goalkeeper spots. You know, is there anything else the Sounders can do to get some muster under them and get three points out of next Saturday's match. We'll talk about it next on Sports Radio nine to fifty kr AM. At Umpquadbank, our business is about rooting for yours. That will be a ton of fun out there at Looming, a bunch of cool fan things going on, and Pete for the product on the field. We had that great debate. I really do think it was a great debate over the goalkeeping position here for the Sounders, but across the rest of the team right now, I think you know, we're seeing a team that has flashes of moments. If you say, oh yeah, they can do more, that that's going to be a team that you know can go far in

the Western Conference. I'm wondering if if you can continue to roll out this same lineup that we saw tonight, no added injuries, knew who will be back from international duty, so he'll slide in at left back, or if there's any other changes Brian Scheitzer and his staff could make to get more out

of this team and get three points next Saturday. It's a great question, but I'm looking at the starting eleven, I'm looking at the bench, and I think that lineup tonight was the best lineup we can put out with the players that we have agreed. I think it's tough to I think Chew could be a spark for us, you know, but I don't feel like anybody in particular is that's on the bench is hot right now. We don't have a guy who's come off. You know, we're hitting the fiftieth anniversary of

the Sounders. We used to have a guy named Dave Butler, Davy Butler, and he was a starter and then he became the super sub is what the fans called him, and it was great. I mean he'd be on the bench and the Kingdom would be channing Davy Butler and he'd have his arms on either end of the bench and he'd be he'd be conducting right. He'd get him started and you know he'd come off. But I don't, we don't have Masovski's had a couple of good chances, but hasn't put him away.

So you don't say, okay, he should be in that starting eleven because if you were to get Leo in the field, he'd play on the left, Jordan would flip to the right, Christian would slide back and obit has to come off the field. And it was an Obed Vargas played his way in it. I thought he was good to yeah exactly. He played his way into the game. And I thought he had a good second half. You know, one of the few guys that had I think a good

second half, especially when they went down to ten men. We saw good moments. He led a couple of charges to maybe get it back to two to two. I thought, you know, I don't all of it is that I don't think you can take off Obed Vargas to put on Leo Chu. I don't think that there's and we talked about Stephan Fry the previous segment being the fiftieth anniversary. I don't think there's a change to make for this next match. I would agree, I would agree, and I think it's

again We've said this a number of times this season. They got to come together as a group, yes, and say we have to own this. And all those guys know that. I mean, if if I was coaching the team, I would be saying, and I'm sure Brian saying, hey, come on, you guys. You are better than what you're performing and we have got to find a way and we need some leadership and we need some guys to step up when we need some guys to to com finish a

chance, make something special happen. The goal you said it at the beginning of this segment. That goal was if we can do more of that, right, yeah, right, If we can do more of that, create more chances for Jordan to be getting one on ones, whether it's a diagonal run, whether he's cutting inside. You know, he cut inside from the left and had a good opportunity as well, and we had the good one

from Baker, Cody Baker. He just missed, Yeah, he missed Josh Atencio in like the eighty six minute, and if he puts it on Josh's foot, Josh has a good clean look. He's in open space six yards out. So they've got to they've got to take the good that they're doing and create more of it, and then they've got to eliminate any of the

mistakes. I think you're absolutely right. That's about leaders stepping up. It's about players stepping up, veterans and and taking charge and saying we're not going to take it and we're gonna, you know, step up, and you come together have a big performance. And listen, Stephen Freser captain. Yeah, he's your captain. And if he's gonna wear that armband, he step up and be a captain right now in this moment. Now that's not only you know, you know, raising his hand for the two goals, it's

it's it's stepping up and bringing this team together however that's needed. And you turn to your roles and Christians and your veteran leaders JP and and get this team together and get this team on the right track, because you know, again, we can see these moments, but the moments are not consistent this year. So you know, final final thought here as we look ahead to Minnesota next week, well, Minnesota's third in the league right now, it's

a chance to go up the table. And I don't necessarily like celebrating things at LUMEN because the last time we celebrated Champions League, we got thumped by Portland. Forget about what happened after the banner. So I think it's most important that we put that we go and yeah, maybe they do that after the game, but it'll be a fun celebration. I said to Stevie zach Wani before the game. I said I could, I could sit down with a pen and paper and name one hundred NASL Seattle Sounders. That was what

it meant to me. I tell people this a lot. The NASL Memorial Stadium, you know, in its current configuration, holds eleven eleven thousand, five hundred. The Sounders packed eighteen thousand people into those games. Wow, we used to go. My dad smoked and I'd use the game program to get the smoke out of the way. And you know it was really peppy Fernend his wife was one of the cheerleaders got rest her souls. She passed away, And but those guys were our heroes and they came into the town.

And Frank McDonald's done a good job of some storyboards that are going to be fun in the stadium. Yes, I was reading some of his stuff. And those guys came into town and they did appearances, They went to birthday parties. Jeff Wall who's fire chief, Jeff's retiring, and he played for the Sounders, and when he was nine, a bunch of starting Seattle

Sounders came to his house for a birthday party. Jeff's d Jeff Senior, English Right, a new bunch of the guys, and as a matter of fact, Jeff's little brother Rabbit. They John Roland would go and get Rabbit and bring him down for the warm up on the field. I mean, there was just this love fest and it was Woodstock. It was if you were there, you knew what it was. And if you weren't there, you're like, oh, I've heard about it. But so I'm excited about

that fiftieth anniversary. Those guys were my heroes on up, and I got to end up playing with some of them and playing for some of them, And I said earlier, I coached a bunch of Sounders kids, which one year we went undefeated, never lost, and I had to face Jeff stock Senior, Jimmy McAllister, Tony Chersky, and Tommy Jenkins after most games and explained why we did what we did. And finally, at the end of the season, Stocksy, god bless him, just said, hey, they're

undefeated. We end up winning the national championship and none of those guys did. If you're listening to you guys, none of you guys have national championship ranks. So there, so I'm excited about that. Minnesota's gonna be good. Yeah, they've really rebounded with their new coach and Sanni, a local kid got a goal today, the Oregon State product from Federal Way, and they're won one tie with Dallas. So that'll be a good It's an important

game because we got to get on track. We do. We have to get on track for the Sounders. That'll be a fun fiftieth anniversary match once again seven o'clock Providence, Swedis prematch shows seven to thirty kickoff ninety three point three Kids You are FM Luminfield Soundersnesoda United. By the way, if I can just say, really really quick, the decision a couple of years ago

to raise the CONCACAFT Champions League banner when Portland was in town. I don't care how much heat done I'm gonna get for this because I'm gonna delete Twitter for the next six days right after I say this. I thought that was a fantastic decision to raise that banner in front of their faces. I don't. Yes, you can say Portland got all the you know, the feelings and whatever, and you know they were clearly wanting to take it to us

after we raised the banner and so much, you know whatever. I love that decision because guess what, Portland, you don't have a concor CAT title. Ah no, you don't, and you had to watch us raised in front of your fat faces, So you know, I love the decision. I love the decision that that banner went out before that Portland game, regardless of what happened afterwards. And again I completely forget what happened afterwards. Love that decision. I just get that off my chest here. I know I'm

gonna take a kep of that. I do feel better. I love that I've always loved that anyway. Regardless, that's one of the great moments in our club's history.
