Welcome into the postmatch show, Jackson Feltz Calenrow here for the next half hour to react and break down a dramatic comeback to one Open Cup win here in the round of sixteen for your beating Phoenix rising tonight here at Starfire in front of a lot of happy
Sounder fans. Callen, let's just start off with your initial reaction and what was a wild last forty five minutes. Well, the first thing I thought of is what composure from a young kid. I mean in the box, he's got three guys around him. Instead of just going up and try to head it in, which is a tough task, he brings it down, takes another touch, beats one defender, fakes a shot, takes another touch inside the six. I mean, this is incredible. What composure from a
young guy. I mean he's obviously been there before, but man, that was great. But he hasn't been there though. That's the crazy thing is, Like, listen, he played for the University of Washington. He was just drafted by the Sounders, and what do you know, another local guy doing great stuff. We love those gut the Rave Green, those dom Washingtonians, you know. But I mean a hell of a job by Kelanian. Listen, you know, being he's had experience on large stages on the college
level. This is the US Open Cup, this is you know, a playoff format in a professional ball against you know team in Phoenix that listen, I think, you know, hats off the Phoenix Rising. I'll tell you what. They maybe four, four and three, sixth place in the Western Conference in the USL right now. But what we saw tonight, Kellen, I think is clear why they're the USL champions of last year. That is a darn good soccer team. Oh you saw it. I mean they're running
play. Talk about the cabral I mean he was all over the place, and I thought he had a very good game. You know, at his feet, had time, he took a touch, was able to lay things off. He got in behind a few times, and he got a little bit unlucky, especially towards the end. There knew who you know, kind of gave him a little bit of a hey, I'm here, buddy, and it kind of got him off balance a little bit. But look, they're a good team that The Sounders just came out in the second half and
I think they had more composure. I mean used that word again, they had more composure. They had more maturity. And I'm looking at guys like obviously Calne at the goal, but look at Alex Woldon. I mean talk about a guy who's been outside back most of his career now in the second stint and he's coming in obviously has a lot of experience, but he comes in as a center mid and he just controls the Midfield's that's quality right there,
and that's maturity. Well, that would have been the sixty second minute where they took Tevez and Christian out. They brought in Steiner Brunell who played the ten, and then he Alex Roldan was a straight swap for Christian and obviously that that's a spot where he played at Seattle University. For our good
friend Pete Feuing, who do the game with Danny Jackson. I think Puz if Pete has a little tear coming down his eye because he's going I taught him everything he knew back at Seattle years exactly, so that kind of midfield experience, you know, you obviously saw that and you kind of go into
your composure and maturity comment. You're dead on in that sense. And it did feel like you are able to get a little more on the offensive end going in that second half, not only but pushing numbers forward, but it felt a more crisp half offensively for this team. It did. It did knew what I think this is. This game is a little ripple. It's a little ripple that can be a big wave on the weekend, and I think it's something that these guys need. They need to know that when they
go down one zero, they still have life. You know, it's not been the greatest season for the Sounders. Let's be honest, So let's make sure that this is a continuation. Don't let this be just a ripple. That'd be a way in the weekend. That's absolutely right. What'll win? This is two to one here in the US Open Cup Round of sixteen here against Phoenix Rising today. If you're just joining us, the next opponent for
Seattle is going to be Sacramento Republic. That's gonna be coming up in early July down in Sacramento, California. I saw a tweet from Sacramento Republic saying that they will be hosting the quarterfinal. It looks like it's gonna be on July ninth or July tenth. Exact time and exact day tbd, but it will be down there, and Sacramento is a team that Seattle has a not so happy history within the US Open Cup from a number of years ago.
Hopefully we can turn that around. And then the winner of that game would go on to face the winner of New Mexico United versus LAFC. That game is in Los Angeles, so the Sounders would take on that winner in what would be the final four of the US Open Cup. So that is what's ahead for your sounders. Let's rattle off a couple quick notes here. First up this summer they will at Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Will continue to

If I've seen one, it's Kolana ko Serensei. Is he gonna be the hero in the US Open Cup night at Starfire It sound as too Phoenix one. Yes, he was the hero and the play of the match is
presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. And you know Callen is we talk about, you know, the Toyota man of the match. I think you know Kilane that great goal, but I'll throw in there, and we talked about in the last segment. Alex rolled on when he came on in the second half. He changed the way the Sounders moved offensively and just moved through the midfield. He was tremendous as well, hit that really great penalty kick. Both of them. Are there a good game
by a lot of players. Who do you give it to? Look, we talked about the composure of Alex and look, he's got the experience, he's got the knowledge. He comes in and really dictates. But for me, it's kill one. I mean the guy. It's not just because the goal, and the goal was amazing. We talked about the composure, but we talked about this at halftime off the line it's it's his his movement,
his understanding of who the players he's playing with. You know, when Georgie is out wide, he wants to go one on one and stay wide. So you saw Keilana go inside. You saw him make the game a different way, and I think that is just intelligence from a young young man who's growing into himself. And then, like I said, you saw the composure,
you saw the talent. I think this kid's got something. Well, Kilanie Cosenzi is your man of the match, your look at Toyota Dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the match and kind of continue that conversation. You know, we were talking that that halftime about you know, I was saying, all right, you're down one nothing. You have Alex Roldan, you know, sitting on the bench right now. You can bring Alex in,
you do a straight swap with Kilanie. And that's what you talked about, you know, keeping Kolanie on there because he works better with Georgie than to get Alex Roldan way up the field on the right wing. And then what you ended up seeing was that when Klannie you know, was able to So it's trying to start moving up the field. Even before Cody Baker came on in the eighty six minutes, you would see that kind of midfield skill from the kid. And he's a full back. I think the Sounders drafted
him as a full back. He's a fullback. But we are seeing now, oh wait a second, we have another one of these talented young midfielders where you know, he isn't a younger fifteen sixteen year old kid who's worked up through the academy. This is a kid who spent years with the University
of Washington and you can see that skill at now multiple positions. Yeah, well, you talk about it, you know, you talk about a young kid who's growing up, but you talk about a spencer player, a guy who can be in the midfield, he can be in the back, he can go up front if you need him. You put him in somewhere and he's gonna ball. He's just gonna be a player. It's not about you know, he's hey coming in a right back. He's coming in as a
right mid. Alex came in as a right mid. Where he is now, yeah, you know, playing in the center, playing right back. Christian the same. I mean, he brings in these guys who are players. It's not about you know what position he is, it's these guys know how to play the game and they ball. And isn't that one of like Brian Schmeenzer's guys, like doesn't doesn't like tonight's scream that Kilani now will now forever be one of Brian's guys. It's it's it's a yes coach watching whatever
you need. You know, it's you gotta be willing to put you know, your ego aside, your probably decide and say whatever you need coach at any time. And that's how you make a career. That's how you build a career and how you keep one too well. Kilanie is just at the start of what is hopefully a long, great career here as he hits the game winner in the eighty ninth minute for your Sounders as they move past Phoenix Rising. Next up will be Sacramento on July ninth or July tenth in the
US Open Cup. That will be down in Sacramento. That is a corner final game. If the Sounders win that, they would face the winner of New Mexico United at LAFC. And then at that point we're talking about you know, a final being that close away, So that is really we are talking about two wins away from a final for your Sounders in the US Open Cup. And it's been a long time. It's been some time. Twenty fourteen. I remember the final at Philadelphia. Yeah, there was actually a
KJR broadcast. We had a KGr broadcast in twenty fourteen for the final at Philadelphia. Mike the gas Man gas too was at Market Arms in Ballard, and I remember running the board for KJR doing what Mitchell Bli is doing back at our studios tonight, and they were it's kind of like you're not supposed to call the game, but you're supposed to react to the game sort of a thing because we don't have the broadcast rights. And just the celebration that
happened. I remember DeAndre Yedlin was an interview and it was a whole, huge, fun celebration as the Sounders grabbed that twenty fourteen Open Cup in Philadelphia extra time and the rest is history. And hopefully the Sounders can get back there. Is this the ten year anniversary of that would be a phenomenal, phenomenal thing if the Sounders can keep this ride going because it has been fun so far. A couple of weeks ago against Louisville. Tonight here against Phoenix.

And that's gonna be in the quarterfinals on
July ninth or July tenth down in Sacramento, California. But in terms of what's directly next for your Sounders, many MLS games before July ninth July tenth and signed to look ahead at what's next, Sounders are heading to Saint Louis City at City Park to face that team coming up on this Saturday, May twenty fifth. It's gonna be a five to thirty Pacific time kickoff five o'clock Provident Swedish premat show. You're going to listen to that over on our main
station of Sports Radio ninety three point three KJR FM. We're on the FM this Saturday five o'clock for Sounders and Saint Louis City and also watch the match by MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app and callum. I mean, two weeks ago this team was able to beat Louisville and then take that momentum and translate it into a win at Portland and we're trying to kind of just
replicate the same thing and get momentum from here into Saturday. But we talked about it in the pre match that there is this US Cope and US Open bump, like the Cup bump is real and it's something that we talked about with the players, but it happens with the team as well. And we talked about that little ripple today that could make a wave on Saturday, and they need to happen. You know, this coming back from one zero gives
the guys life. It really does, because it gives them the grit, the tenacity, the knowledge of like, once it goes down, okay, we're not done yet. And that is something that's huge. And the fact that it came from for me exact that it came from the young kids, the cap that we obviously we had some maturity in there, but we came from the young kids who were willing to battle and fight and do whatever it takes to get the goals and get the wins. I think that's what's going
to really boost this team because I know they're the guys here. I saw him. Yeah, there were guys here. They were watching, they were getting involved in it. Two. I mean you saw Rabel with the fans after with the team. I mean you see the camaraderie now kind of coming back together being that Sounder's way, and that's something that you can really direct a part of the season. Well, I don't think this is any state secret or anything. Roll wanted to be in this game role and naturally Roll
wanted to participate in this game against Phoenix Rising at the end. And you see that, right, and he he wants to feel that and wants to be part of that. And you know, you have a Christian who obviously doesn't play the full game, so he's gonna have, you know, be available for Saint Louis. You have Al Schroldon who has the enormous confidence after hitting that great penalty and he was big in this Sounders win as well. So and Jackson Reagan has to come on for John Bell. You have all
these guys. I mean, he isn't you know, Klanney, He's not gonna see the field against Saint Louis likely likely. And you have key guys like Snyder Brunell came on of course, and Georgie on the right wing. Paul Rothrock was good on the left as well, and and they likely aren't gonna see a lot of if any minutes in Saint Louis. But it really kind of does go to the fact that now long anchors where they'll all be tomorrow training, that's you're you're all with together, you're all with the same
group. So those good vibes, regardless of touching the field against Saint Luis not those vibes are being shared by everybody, right, it is it is. And I remember these games coming in out in the locker room. Obviously you're having a great time. These guys that don't get to see the field as much as they would want, and they finally get to see it,
and it's a success, right, that's a great thing to have. And then you go in tomorrow and they still have it's very very tired legs, but they go in tomorrow and they still have that that little bit of up, you know, that little bit of pep in their step. And the guys that are going out to train those starters are seeing this and they're going I miss that. I do. I miss that pep in my step, and I want to make sure that anything I can do to make that happen
again. As We literally watched the Sounders bus with a police escort drive out and out of Starfire right now. I mean that bus, which is you'd think maybe going back to Long Acres music, there is music bumping the last files. It's it's a great time. There's jokes being made about someone who tripped over a ball, and this is the time. This is the time that I guarantee you every single retired player, myself included, is what this
is what we miss. It's after the game in the locker rooms with the buddies, you know, really having a conversation, just joking around, joking around, making fun of them. Hey, I remember that shot that I put in the third row. You know, it's these are the moments we miss. Well, what a moment they must be having right there. And then listen as I feel you, I feel the energy you want to be on that bus right now. I know, I know you do, but I tell you what, man, I mean. This is the first time
we've had you on the radio broadcast and you've been freaking awesome. Man, Oh, thank you. It's been awesome to have Kellan Row here for pre out posts.
