Tonight was the good version two two final for your Seattle Sounders tonight down in Houston against the Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium, and what a way to go about it. At halftime
myself Jackson Feltz Diego audio here for the post match show. At halftime, we were down. We were wondering, Hey, they gotta figure this out. They gotta figure some stuff out, and there's a lot of pieces on the bench that could help. It wasn't the pieces on the bench that that made a difference. It was the guys on the field, the resiliency and the push to get or done. Fifty seventh minute, Paul Rothrock an incredible, incredible effort as we see the replay right here on the monitor to get
the Sounders their goal and then just about well is it? About seven minutes later, Mizowski earns a free kick Rusnack takes from just about five ten yards outside of where he got the assist of Jordan Morris over the weekend against Minnesota. He sends it in and for the first time in his MLS career, Jackson Reagan scores a goal at the back post, a great finish into the
back of the net, and Jackson Reagan makes it to two. It was a wild back and forth final twenty five minutes no goals though, but it does end to to as Sounders find a point in Houston, Diego. Let's just start with your instant reaction to this two two result. It's a great result based on what we were talking during halftime, that to Neil going down and then the way they change not only formation, but I think the intensity
that was lacking in the first forty five minutes. We saw it and it's a love without moments, right that play from Paul Rothrock, the way he follows up the shot the first the initial shot, also the way he fights and gets the ball and ends up scoring. It's it's showing how the mindset change for the players, especially going down to Neil. It could be actually worse, and we talked about it, right, like the opportunities that Houston
had they had just an open field to attack the Sounders. But with those changes, definitely the game changed for the Sounders benefit. But also we saw at the end of the day that reaction that sometimes it was missing during this season, and we got to see today. The Sounders came back from at two zero, especially in a really tough place to play, that's Houston.
Yeah, exactly. Then the ninety percent humidity, the eighty degree temperatures looked like the rain did stay away, and any threat of thunderstorms was far away as well. Diego, I want to show you a picture right here. Sean Quinn at Sean h Quinn on Twitter sent this out. So it's a picture of Paul Rothrock and Jackson Reagan playing youth soccer together at Sealle United FC. And these two kids, I shouldn't even say kids, but these two
guys who years later. I mean, you imagine on the flight home tonight, while they're playing cards, they're probably you know, maybe even they're sitting next to each other, they'll probably just take a second, it might be in the locker room, look at each other and say, hey, remember when and look at it's it's the it's the Paul redmeme. Look at us now, Look at us now? Who would have thought both of them score goals in the second half to bring the Sounders back from two nothing down.
Uh for I mean those two guys have to be high as a kite right
now. No, it's it's it's a great story. And we were talking also before the match in the pregame show, you know, play Player to Watch, and we were already talking about Paul roth Rock and how how well he came came in in the last game at home and today it was a big test for him and he showed it, especially in that well, not only the goal, but in the second half and in general he was running the whole time, pressuring high pressure, uh for the you know, the
Houston defenders, and also overall he was really good and do you want to touch his especially also in the recovery. So I really like his performance and I are good friends and Noah Ari, who hosts the podcast Lobbing Scorches, are gonna love this next question. But it's it's a fair and legitimate question. How many minutes is Paul Rothrock demanding for himself right now? Because he
over these last you know, a couple of weeks. I think we've seen him come on obviously goes back to MAC matches is great, But to your points, you know, about what he's been doing on the field. It's not just a gimmick now, you know. And it's not just last year the cult here of you know, scoring goals and in the Open Cup games and back to back to back and these great stories. This isn't just a good story anymore. Paul Rothark is putting together good performance after good performance.
He's making a meaningful impact on the field and demands the question, how many minutes is Paul rock rock going into a certain match? Do we say, yeah, Paul's got to get you know, ten minutes off the bench. Maybe we're not at that point yet, but it feels like we're inching closer to that point. Yeah, he's winning definitely more time on the field with the performance right, especially tonight, I think it's all about how how you
show in specific moments. And today's game it's a six point game, right we're talking about and even Marcus mentioning he had a good point like today it was one of those matches that getting a result was the most important thing to me. The tie, even though it's a tie. It's one point that you take away from Houston, right that for them, it should be a
winnable game. Absolutely night, especially also when you see the starting eleven for the Seattle Saunders right yeah, and listen right now, going into this match, Houston was up by Seattle by two points. If they win this match and they hold onto a two nothing lead, suddenly that two becomes well, no, it becomes five. I do my math correctly, so you game
different. You just flipped five point points to two points right there. When we look back at the end of the season, I would bet you that Houston and Seattle are divided by maybe three spots on the table, I bet, and whichever team is above or below, we're gonna look back and say that was a two point swing for Houston. That was I guess more than that, but that was three points that could have been that the Sounders said,
no, you don't, We're taking one. That's just a tremendous effort tonight, a tremendous effort in the second half to come back from two nothing down. that for the actual wins. But boy, does this to to feel like a win, considering Seattle was down to nothing at the half Latif Blessing goals in the thirtieth and fortieth minutes. Sanders really didn't look great there towards the back half of that first half. You know, they started comfortable, but Houston scored twice, and as Diego just said at halftime, everything was kind of, you know, going downhill. But then in the second half,
Paul Rothrock Jackson Reagan goals by both of them, so listen. Speaking of those goals, let's get to the Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match. I'm going to single handed Lily Railroad this through and then we'll actually have debate about it, cause I'm gonna make it Paul Rothrock in the fifty seventh minute because that goal and the individual effort that Paul Rothrock gave on that goal,
as Danny Jackson calls, here, was sensational attention. It along, it comes Rothrock, settles itself, had a chance and another chance in the back of the net. It goes Paul Rothrock, second goal in the last two games, and his second goal here in Houston in the space of almost twelve months. Brilliant by the young man. Sound is back in it Houston Io. let's let's do this. Let's get into it, because I think his job to sort of intercept the ball, intercept the pass and tip it back up, corral the rebound center himself, take a moment to breathe put a good shot on goal and then after it's saved and blocked back out, also still have the wherewithal and still have the mindset to stay on it and then put another good shot together that goes into the back of the night. I think for the individual effort, I have that as the play of the match,
not to say Jackson Reagan's though wasn't great. Yeah, I know those those two plays, I agree what I think the effort to me that that's what stands out definitely right. And in terms of the player, I mean, yeah, the play I would say Paul Rothrock creates something out of nothing right and to me that that really stands out alwaysy what eventually Jackson Reagan, the
way he finishes off that it's just a quality finish. But also I want to challenge you because I loved what Stephen Fry did one more once again, right, how many saves he had. You told me you're gonna challenge me. I thought you're gonna challenge me with Jacksons. You're gonna be challenging me with seven Pride because because that in the second half and we were looking at the replay that one from Latif Blessings coming, Yeah, who's coming to basically
just tap it? In the way he the seven phrase, just flicks it that that's a game changing play, right, and we'll be talking about like a two two, we were talking like a three ten. It was starred here as our play of the match, right moments seconds before Paul Rothrock scored. By the way, that was going to be the play of the match. And listen, I think that that immediately then feeds in the conversation of the Toyota Manna match, because there was a lot of really good efforts obviously
Jackson and Paul with the goals. You had Yamar who had like three or four blocks in the first half that kept this game at two nothing and not longer. But you bring up a great case on Stephen Fry and that moment in the fifty seventh as well as many other moments. He had a hell of a game. Yeah, and talking about a moments in the match. If that that play, you know, let's say that ball goes in,
right, it will be talking about like Paul Rothrock. I mean probably he could score it, yes, but we'd be already off the air because I would just want to leave, because to have three nil coming back to be almost impossible. The way the team was playing at that time, and I think, to me, that's a game changing play because then that sets up
you know, that mean us later the goal and then the tie. Right not and by the way, double save in the seventy sixth minute, the second time double save to the second one kind of went right to him, but nonetheless, all the same accounts as a double save. Listen, we're doing that because he didn't get he didn't get to play of the match, but he is gonna be our Toyota man of the match. Obviously neither of and you can say, like, wella Sanders gave up two goals. Neither of those goals are on Stephan Frye. I don't think diego those are. I mean, I'm not We're not going to spend a lot of time diagnosing those goals. We did that in the halftime show. But those are just those are fixable mistakes where you couldn't coach a guy like Obed, you know, and coach the team not to allow put O bed in the position to make that pas. And then Josh as well uh.
And then on the second one, just transition right, transition defense. Things you can fix, but I'm not putting stuff in Fry a fault for either of those. Yeah, I though those those plays and we Yeah, it's more about the the mistake in in in the build up giveaways and then the transition and not being able to come back into position. And then at that point Steven Fry's is a passenger, right, he's gonna do He's gonna not
do much to stop the goals. Well, he was along for the ride on those, but he was the star of the show in the second half with with with a few absolutely fantastic plays. Really, this was a team I was about to say a team win, but it's a it's a team draw that certainly feels like a win. You know, I have this read to do here. right. They only had eight shots, they were able to convert five. Pet Musa scored a hat trick. So it's going to be again coming confident for FC Dallas. I think it's also good news for the Seattle Founders because they can really take advantage of playing here at Lumen with a team that hasn't played that well the entire season. They're also struggling. They have also a good roster, but they haven't been able to connect a series of solid games
right, a series of solid wins. So I do think it's definitely one of those games for Seattle Sounders that they need to come out strong, especially at home. And we saw the calendar for Seattle Sounders after this game at Houston that we talked about it. All the rest of the games are winnable. There should be a three point game, three points per game basically for the Sounders and they can really go at top of the you know, at the pack right at least we were talking about it off. Yeah, microphone
is like looking at a fourth fifth place in the Western comfortence. Absolutely, and because you have Dallas here and then the next you referenced it, but you know not to look too far ahead, but you have Chicago at thirteenth in the east and then New England at fifteenth in the east. So yes, you're facing Dallas, who's right below you, right now on the table. But it's a chance for Seattle to kind of say no, no, no, no, no, we're still here, We're still the big dogs.
And then really establishers, I mean, we could be looking back at this five game stretch starting with Minnesota saying damn, the Senator's got thirteen of a possible fifteen points. I mean, listen, I don't want to get too ahead of myself. But this is this stretch, I think this five game stretch and Minnesota we talked about it. Complete win tonight, resilient.
I nearly said win again, resilient, draw right, and if you can convert the points that you should be getting out of these next few matches at home, then I think we're talking about a team that is getting paid. So they're in seventh place at this moment, playing San Jose, Vancouver, Colorado, Minnesota, Galaxy above them. None of these teams are teams that strike me as well. If we had a first round matchup, we should be worried. None of those teams
worry me for first round matchups. Yeah, and at this point of this season, you have to really you know, Relso Lakes, it's above all the teams in the Western Conference all based on that performance. If we have to face them in the first round, then I'm scared, So forget for our LA f C. But then you have I think from the third place like Ala Galaxy down toward the Seattle sound is hard. It's it's pretty you
know, teams that they Seattle Sounders can't compete and can win. Right so, and I think again the moment right now that the Sales hunders again results is really important ahead of Leaks Cup because to me, Leak Scup is that month break that you're gonna start, not from Serra, but you have this long break from a different tournament and then coming back you know, end of the summer is when things really need to turn up, you know, ahead
of the playoffs. Absolutely, that'll do it for our broadcast tonight, following a Sounders two to two draw that felt like a win. I didn't actually say at that time, but it really did. I mean honestly, two second half goals by roth Rock and Reagan and the teammates at Seattle United before
joining the Sounders Academy.
