Welcome to the Sounders FC postmatt Show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders F scene postmat Show starts now, one win down, one to go. Here in the first round, your Sounders with a two to nothing win tonight at Lowman Field over FC Dallas. If the guaranteed themselves at least one more match here this season, whether that comes in Game three or the next round,

we will see. But the first win here in the postseason capture tonight, a two to nothing win. Goals from Albert Russknack in the forty third minute on a penalty and then how fitting seventy fourth minute, Jordan Morris with the header. Jordan's down on the side on the field with Michelle Ludko. Thank you Jackson. Yes, I'm here with Jordan Morris, who had his seventh playoff goal tonight. Jordan, First, weall congratulations on the win and the

beautiful goal. It was a hard fought win for this team tonight. Walk me through your perspective of how everything played out. Yeah, I thought there was a lot of times in the game where he played really really well. You know, I think we got a little bit fortunate in the first half that they didn't score a goal and put you know, put us behind in

one nil, so we got to clean a few things up there. But other than that little stretch of maybe twenty twenty five minutes in the first half, I thought we had a really really good game, and you know, we'll learn from what we did. You know, maybe not great, but we can build on this and heading to Dallas with confidence. The Sounders are now unbeaten in eighteen home playoff matches dating all the way back to twenty fourteen. What is it about playing here in this atmosphere, in front of these

fans win so much is on the line. Yeah, it's incredible. I mean, we're so lucky to have the support that we do, and that's why we thought are we knew that finishing you know, high up in the standings, to have that home home you know, home field advantage in the playoffs was so so important. So we're super lucky with the fan base that

we have and we're excited to keep playing some home games. I had a chance to speak with Albert Rusnak pre match, and he told me that this team was determined to win in ninety minutes, didn't want it go into shoot out given the changes in the playoff for format. How important was it to get it done today during regulation? Super important, you know, I think especially at home, you don't want to leave it up to chance like that.

I mean, we trust step so much in a shootout. But yeah, we knew it was important to get the win in regular time and glad we did that. So off to Dallas next. You mentioned a few things to clean up, anything specific you want to see changed or carry over to the match on Saturday. We've did a lot of great things going forward. I think maybe on the defensive side in terms of just the team defending.

We got a little stretched on those couple opportunities in the first half, so got to you know, clean that up a little bit, you know, try to avoid those little mistakes because the margins are so so you know small and in the playoffs and it's important to just you know, play well as a team. So I think we can build on a lot of good stuff that we did today, but the clean up a few things. Jordan Morris, as always, thank you so much for the time. Congratulations. We'll

see you in Dallas. Thank you, thank you, appreciate back to you, Jackson Thanks Michelle. It's Jordan Morris there, the goal scorer in the seventy fourth minute to give the Sounders their second goal into two nothing win tonight over Dallas. I'll quickly tell you The second match here in this series comes up this Saturday, down at Toyota Stadium in Dallas. Just like tonight. It's gonna be a six o'clock kickoff Providence Swedish prematchow will start at six five

point thirty pm. You can listen to that match on the Sounders EPCs stream channel on iHeartRadio, also on Series XM channel one fifty seven. You know, also watch the match MS season pass on the Apple TV app as well for Saturday's game two. But for Game one here and welcome into the postgame show. Jacksonville's Brad Evans James Riley will be joined from Diego Audio here in a little bit. Brad, I'll start with you. It's a win here in game one. How are we feeling about this one? Yeah? Feeling

good. I think Jordan hit the nail on the head. The margins are so small and all it takes is one inch to change the course of a game, and we got really lucky in that first half. A couple of mistakes, Sounders playing complaces. We talked about it at halftime, but the soccer gods are on the Sounders side tonight. Seven five makes a fantastic save and for some some reason, maybe it's the turf, maybe it's something a little different. The ball bounces up, you know, for air the sky's

went over the top of the goal. That uncharacteristic of him for sure. And then the Sounders do the business on the other end. They draw a good PK and I thought, overall, like Jordan said, there were good moments in this game, but it wasn't. You saw the sideline get up multiple times to just say calm down. Prectys sitting there saying knock the ball around. Nothing. That's why you have coaches to tell you what to do, because no one on the field at the time is saying that. Everyone's

so amped up because they're in this big playoff game. And once they did, they really picked apart this Dallas team, and Dallas didn't really have a fighting chance on the night save for our mistakes. I agreed, like I said, for me, it was a comprehensive team performance by the Sounders. It didn't feel like we needed to get out of second or third gear minus those two giveaways. Like I said, minus those two giveaways, it's a very very good first half. Second half was what it needed to be.

Result orient and calming the chaos. La Daro came in changed the game. That's what you need your dpiece for. It came in literally changed the game, calmed the game down. The bass started peeing and they possessed the ball in the midfield led to the second goal. He gets the second assist.

You know, secondary assist knew who to Jordan wore The biggest thing as you get into the playoff, you need your top level players, your DPS, your ten level players, your signature players to be playing at their best. So you get a goal today from Rusnak gay penalty, very confident, Jordan Morris has a goal. But before that play it was Jo polow to to Ladero. Ladero too knew who knew who with the great whipt in ball. Jordan Morries with the goal. So you have your key players playing well at

home. Stephen Fry another shutout at home, defense wins championship. So for me, comprehensive performance. I felt the Sounders didn't even need to get out of second third gear. No disrespect to Dallas, but I just felt it was that they they were that confident in the game minus those two turn those two turnovers, those two no turnovers could have changed the game. If he jus puts one of those away, let alone two, without a doubt, it changes the game. But other than that, I thought that you know,

the Sounders are in a cruise control. You're naming all these players, and I feel like you know most of the Sounders and all of them had plus games, and one player by another, you can key out these moments for them. The question of the Toyota Man of the matches and is an interesting one because you had everybody put on the plus performance. But Brad, I mean all the start of you, did anybody get the plus plus? Yeah? Look, I mean I think Potensio had another good game back in

there. And he's so vital because the ground that he covers goes unnoticed. But he's challenging for every ball in the air. Even at the end, He's putting in that extra effort just for this team. He loves his team so much. Right, it's an academy kid. But at the end of the day, no, I don't think anyone had this fantastic, fantastic performance.

Everyone just played really well, and I think to your point, you got to give it to Steph tonight and keeping that clean sheet and making that big save, because you know, as much as it is Farara not picking out the right spot, it's about Steph making himself really big and making Ferreira have to choose where he needs to go versus giving him one side or the other, and then he makes how flexible this guy is that hockey save where

that he has been backwards the other ones out in the splits and makes himself really big. So you know, you gotta go with Steph tonight, I think. Yeah. In addition to Steph, I would say because it was very important. You know, I think everyone on the field had a fantastic game, Ladero, because to be a dping to come on and know that's your role for this team right now and know that you're going out the door, you want to leave a lasting legacy very important. What he's done for

the city is unmatched. I'm getting chills thinking about it. It's unmatched and it's phenomenal. So to come in, do the business, get the secondary assist. But come in and you saw how the game changed. Rusnak drops deeper. Jo Paulo has freedom as well and it just starts pinging and possessing the games. I'm surprised that the fans don't go olay. I mean there's a sequence where we put together, you know, some a numerous number of

passes. So for me, it goes back to the match management. But him to step up, be the true captain that he is and put down that performance at home as a substitute role for me was great, outstanding all around. We will say that tonight's Toyota man matches Stephen Fry with his fifteenth clean sheet of the season in this two nothing win. Your local Toyota duoers are proud to present tonight's man of the match. MLS may say he's the

fourth best goalkeeper in this league. Excuse me, let to roll my eyes, but he is number one here again tonight with the clean sheet. Oh, we'll take a break here on the postmatch show. We'll come back continue talking about the two nothing win and then of course we'll start looking ahead to Saturday. And how the sounders can put a repeat performance on to move forward to the Conference semifinals. More next on the postmatch show Sports Radio nine fifty

You're listening to the home of Sounders FC, Seattle's sports Radio nine fifty KJI. Welcome in and welcome back to the postmatch show here from Lumtfield. Following it to nothing Seattle Sounders win should be noted. With this win, Brian Schmenzer now moves up. He is third all time in Major League

Soccer history in playoff wins. Congrats to the Sounder's head coach Brian Schenzer, just behind Siggi Schmid and Bruce Arena in that category. Well, it's now time for Emerald Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match. We go to the second goal tonight, which was very fittingly in the seventy fourth minutes Knew Who to Jordan Morris. As you look there on their left hand side gets platted

into it, but new has eny Jna Morris. Wonderful cross by New Who and a wonderful head up by Jordan Morris to put the Sounders up two goals to middle of the night. Great ball from New Who, maybe the best cross of New Who's career perhaps and that ball to Jordan Morris. The Play of the match is presented by Emily Pin Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Jordan scores that and the Sounders win by that to nothing score line.

And as we kind of, you know, take a step back here in the postmatch show and for a few minutes, Sounder is now unbeaten in their last ten you've read you mentioned it on the pre match show, the fact that their last loss was to Atlanta in August. This team's playing really high level soccer right now. Yeah, I think this is a team that

has learned from their mistakes. We talked about it a halftime too. It's it's a group when you look back, there's pivotal right and I think this year it was those summer doom and gloom where we were talking about the Sounders demise, do they have the players to make a playoff run? Who's gonna be out next year? And then the reality was they never dropped below fourth, ended up finishing second, and that's that's a product of being a Sounder.

And then you felt it in two thousand and nine, just like I did. The pressure started there and it wasn't just good enough to get into the playoffs. It was great round of applause, but we've always wanted more here, and no matter where we're at, we're always gonna want more. If we're in first, then we better be battling for sure, be within you know, three to six points of the supporter shield. So there was

a moment, you know where we play here. We start off hot in Leak's Cup against Monterey and we need a miracle of a win and we got to get it done. And we do that. We go up early, and we make this fantastic first ten minutes of the game, and then all of a sudden, it's like our heads just fell off and we just ran around trying to get that third goal so fast, and there was no one on the field to put their foot on the ball and say, hey,

this doesn't have to happen. Now, we're better than this team. It can happen at the ninetieth minute, it can happen at the eighth whenever it is. But that was a good learning experience to know that when you go up in a game, you have to have guys that can dictate the play, dictate the pace, and that I always look to you, James, because sometimes I would be the young guy that's just flying, go go, go, go, go right and he'd be screaming at me, just sit,

just sit, just sit. Control the tempo, let's calm down, let's knock it around. And there's something to be said about playing those Central American teams on the regular like we did in those Champions League matches too. You learn that little savviness. You don't care if they win one, nothing

ugly. It's all about advancing to the next round. M very Well said, I think you know when you're your first point, the expectation, the expectations for key you know, signature franchises, and not to just get into the playoffs. It's it's the whole paradigm has shifted. It's when we get into the playoffs. We want to have home field advantage, not when. And I've you know, had the great fortune to play on seven seven MLS teams, and I've been on teams where it's like it's a hope and a

prayer to get into the playoffs. Other teams that's been when we make the playoffs, we need to be in a position to be at home field advantage because it gives us this pathway to be able to host, this pathway to be able to get through. That's the difference, and and Brad said it, everyone was kind of up in arms in the summer when they didn't fall below four and they still you know, you deal with that. I think

that's what put pressure. That's what puts pressure on good franchises that continued to push the envelope, like the Sounders have Do you go, audio joining us here in the post match show, do you go? I know you were down on the field for Univision a moment ago, but let's just get your two cents on here this two nothing win tonight here in the first game of the first round of the playoffs. Yeah, I think it's it's really important.

We were talking about it during the halftime show, right that how you put it's gonna be the the second half on closing the game and keeping the advantage it one Neil advantage, And I think I saw a solid team.

You guys were talking out about new hoo Cross probably the best we seen from him, right, but also but also seeing Jordan Morris right again, being you know, in the score sheet and getting that confident and especially becoming that potential number nine for the franchise, And what you guys were saying is totally right, Like the baseline of this team is not only to advance to the playoffs, but in the playoffs they really need to show their worth and really

need to, you know, go for the m Less Cup every time the Sounders are here, right, I think it was an exception last year that Sounders didn't make it for the first time. But I think after this this solid win is going down to Dallas and getting a result. I think it's really important for the Thunders to finish this series hopefully in two games. Right, worst case scenario, you come back here and play again. But I think you know, if you get that rest as well, you get also

the players more time to get ready for the next round. Let's take a break, Let's come back and talk about the approach in game two on Saturday in Dallas. You're listening to the home of Sounders fc cl on's sports Radio nine fifty KJR propping things up from lumin Field, where your Seattle Centers took care of business tonight with a two to

nothing win over FC Dallas. They win the first game of this best of three series with FC Dallas and now comes a road match in Game two down at Toyota Stadium in Dallas where the Sounders will play on Saturday. It's going to be a five thirty pre Game six o'clock kickoff. You can listen to the match over on the Sounders FC stream channel on iHeartRadio. three to three kjur account. We'll make sure that sends it out as well. For all the links to listen. You can also watch the match by MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app. Well. Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. But guys, let's take the flat on a few minutes tonight and talk about this game two ahead. You know for Seattle. You know that theoretically if Dallas was to take it, it would come back here for a game three. So the

question is how does Brian Schmetzter and his staff approach game two with? What strategy does he throw out the same lineup? What kind of tactics? Brad, I'll start with you will go around the room of how you go into game two? Here? Well, I got these little game notes, okay on FC Dallas. Had just looked at FC Dallas is seven three and seven at home and seven to one and five against Western Conference opponents at Dallas,

so only one loss at home this year against Western Conference opponents. And then the other one that stuck out to me is they've they've only lost three times in the last twenty two games at Toyota Stadium, including playoffs. So this is a team that loves playing at home and has a really good record at home. So expect to see a different Dallas side as they're going to be

motivated now. They didn't play as well as they should have tonight. The game plan didn't go according I mean, you get an injury early that throws everything off. You have to bring in a homegrown kid who's you know, just played seven games this season, and if you're bringing that guy off the bench, you're probably not gonna win here in Seattle. So if he can get healthy by next week, it changes things. But you know, I think it's a Dallas team that's gonna provide a lot of a lot of tests.

But also they're going to open up and think they gotta win. They got to win, right, They got to push, they got to go for it. They don't want to send it into pks and give themselves just a chance. But I think the Sounders might be happy to do that. I think you just have to play compact defensively and really be good with the ball. Away from home. Absolutely, you go away with the same approach. Honestly, there's not the strategy that's gotten you here is what you need

to do, refine and optimize as you go down there. You will be certainly Compact defense wins championships. That's first and foremost. You need to be compact. You need to play a good team defense and take your chances when they get it because Dallas will have to push, they will leave gaps, they will be succeptible to the counter attack where there'll be a lot of space, and you just have to be very opportunistic with the chances that you do

get. But I look for another professional, result oriented right effort next Saturday as well. To build on your point, though we'd like to think that, yeah, they're going to open up and press. They win a club record eighteen straight games allowing one or zero goals from July fourth, twenty twenty two to May twenty, twenty twenty three. So it's a team that doesn't even allow goals at home, right, It's it's gonna be tough to unlock

this team, it's going to take a moment of brilliance. That's what happened with Reebaker Whiting. He's a guy getting down the left hand side there in Dallas on a fantastic run and it's a great volley from Alex Rodand to at least pick up a point there. Yeah, I think Dallas is definitely a different team at home. I've been able to call a few games there and

it's completely you know, they like to possess. They constantly attack, but to your guys point, like they also leave spaces right and I think the Sounders there also it's a team that's comfortable of you know, sitting back and then playing the counter if they need to. They have, you know, really fast players such as Jordan Morris who can be you know, can use his speed to its advantage. And I think, I mean Alan Belaska, I think if he's not there next week is going to be a big loss

for Dallas definitely. Yeah. So I think the Sounders need to be just smart and and games. To your point, I think they need to result oriented and I think that's a key result oriented, you know, game strategy for next game. Same one up for Ryan Schmezer. I would think, yeah, no, no change is needed. You get a full not not full week off. But it is a Monday to Saturday game, so we'll see if there's any changes, but don't expect so from from Brian Schmitzer.

No more injuries tonight as well, so Redbecker Wating with that hamstrings train, he's the only one. We'll see where that goes for Game two on Saturday, we'll talk to you. Brad'll be down there in Dallas with Danny Jackson. The rest of the crew will be back here in Seattle. We'll have you a five thirty pre games six o'clock kickoff on Saturday from Toyota Stadium,

Seattle, Dallas. Game two, we'll talk to you then. Sounders Weekly coming up on ninety three point three kJ FM on Wednesday at seven pm.
