Transcript

Welcome to the Sounders FC postmat Show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC postmatt Show starts now. Well it's a final from PayPal Park in San Jose. The Earthquakes have beaten your Sounders by a score of three to two, and after four games, Seattle finds themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference

standings. They have two points through four games and Sally the Sounders now are below San Jose, who get their first win and first point of the year with these three at home. Welcome into the postmatch show, Jackson Feltz, Pete Fewing here for the next however long we go to talk about this result, Pete, that's a really really uh that's a tough one to take because

Sounders were down to nothing. We talked about it at halftime show. They needed the effort, they needed the heart, they needed deal more and they got to bring on a couple guys off the bench. We see them connect. We get the Rollalds penalty, congrats on his record, by the way, and then we also get a great cross from Cody Baker Masovski header goal two to two in the eighty first minute. Vibes are back, feeling good. Everything is fine. We get our goal from the run and play.

We're all good. And then before you can even blink, San Jose seconds later comes back and they get the Sounders with a goal right after the equalizer. It's Ebobas in the eighty second minute. San Jose goes on to win with that three to two score line. That is a very very tough one to swallow, Pete, it is a tough one to swallow. We wanted more from that game first half. I don't know if the players did, But the second half they came out more better. They were better, There

was more urgency to their play, more effort we did. I thought we got a bit of a gift on the penalty kick. Yeah, and Ruy Diaz two games in a row hitting the penankas courageous and so that's great. I mean he did it. That's a skill that you got to have. Clar our way back in and then we shut off for a minute thirty seconds and then we're back down three to two. So I feel bad for Stephan Fry. You know, he couldn't have done anything on any of the goals.

So before the game we said, e Boba s and Espinoza without a goal this year makes me nervous. Now they each have one. But yeah, that's not I think Brian Schmitzer is gonna be really upset in that locker room. Other coaches will be as well, and some of the leaders have to say, wait, this is not who we are. We've been around here three four, five, six, seven years. This is not how

we operate. So that is not good enough. We said that the subs coming in can make an impact, and all Brian Schweitzer can do is say, hey, Posovski comes in and gets a goal in the run of play, maybe we got to start him right. Baker gets a good assist right because he goes forward, he gets the ball, give himself a good first touch and then whips that ball in and boom boom and we're in the back of the net. So a little bit of direct play, a little bit

of you know, aggressive risk taking. It wasn't risky. It was a good ball into the box. So there's some things to be learned, and there's you know, gosh d we know this in any sport it comes down to guys making plays or guys not making plays. And we had a tackle that we went to the carpet too early and maybe we should have gone with the back foot so that we block it or not gone down at all. And and that's the third goal for San Jose. So that's a tough one.

That's a when you're playing it and it's not you didn't fly across country, you're not on the East coast. It's a short hop. You're playing in a little bit warmer climate. And they Sounders historically have been good when they go on the road. They regroup and uh and they were flat coming out on this one. Second half better, but the first half is way too flat. Well, let's go back to some comments you made about that first half in a little bit. You also mentioned Rollery as his penalty.

It won't be our Emerald Quin Casino play of the match, but it should be noted. A very big congratulations to Rollerydas And you're right, it took a lot of kajones to go back to back penancas, but he did right down the middle and he gets his eightieth career goal in Rave Green. Across all competitions, that is the very most in Seattle Sounders FC history. So congratulations to roll on number eighty. He is the new record holder. He

was tied with Freddy at seventy nine. He now has number eighty. We'll take a break here in the post match show. We'll come back and talk about that first half and talk about the how this team. You know, well, I need I need a few minutes to get the thoughts together because it's a subject that we talked about at halftime, about the effort and the heart and the fight and the hunger in this team that we didn't see for the first forty five minutes that had this team down down to nothing. So

we'll talk about that coming up on the postmatch show. A lot more to get to him. But to first, I'll tell you that Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. And also that Delta Air Lounges is probud to donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season the Ray Foundations One Mile, One Ball program. More next on the post match Sports Radio at nine to fifty KJR.

You're listening to the home of Sounders FC. Setle's Sports Radio nine fifty kJ R is the pool gets whipped in by Qudebic. Goodball on the six hide up down. It is a goal, the first goal for Messovsky and the Sounders tied up here in San Jose. It's the Earthquakes too, best Sounders too. What across from Cody Baker. What a header from Azoski? The first goal from the run and play for your Sounders in twenty twenty four.

That's the play of the match presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Great goal there in the run and play. It's just a darn shame. What came about forty five seconds afterwards where Jeremy Obobasi. Yeah, he catches the Sounders sleeping a little bit defensively, and right after the Sounders equalized, San Jose get the winner and it is a final score of three to two. San Jose Sounders now bottom of the Western Common Fence

table two points through four games. Pete Fwing Jackson Feltz here with the post match show, as we kind of breeze through this, and Pete, I want to if we can breeze through this, this might be a longer conversation. But we talked in the halftime show about the fight, the energy, the effort. I think just the hunger is the right word, the hunger

of the team as they lined up. And yes, again, you have so many players who are injured right now, you know, from Jual Paulo Pedro, De la Vega, Leo Chew, Albert Russnat came off the bench in this one. The list goes on and on. It is a long, long injury report. Oh bit Vargas suffered a head injury and he was out for this game as well. So it's kind of you know, you get fry back, but then you know, two steps back the other way.

So with the guys who were on the field to start this game, I don't know, Pete like and this goes back to the you know, recent weeks. I'm just not feeling that hunger. I'm not sure if that's the right word for it, but I'm just not feeling that hunger from the first minute. Maybe I'm off base there. What do you think of what we're seeing just at least in the first forty five minutes of this game. Yeah, first, I do want to say this that that was a great

goal. I saw the movie the replay of Massovski's head. It was well timed. He positioned Marie, he went up over the top of him. It was a very good goal. Danny's a good goal scorer and he proved it right there. And good for Cody Baker to get the cross in. So to answer your question, the urgency that those two brought onto the field

wasn't evident in the first half. And we've got a lot of veterans that that lineup of the eleven, there were three guys that were not veterans, right, Tevis Soda and Leva right, So, but the rest were And and there's got to be somebody in there saying, look, we need to get going right now that we're we're playing against team that hasn't won yet. We're going to their place. Let's start fast. We've got to have it.

So it didn't happen. And and there's you know, they sometimes you point the finger at somebody else but three or pointing right back at you when you're pointing at him. So they've got to make sure that you know, there's got to be there's got to this might be a player only meeting why because it's the players who do the job on the field, right, And it's not that's not against any coaching staff or anything, but they got to come together and say, look, what are we going to stand for?

And this is a club that has some pretty darn good trophies and and consistently over the first fifteen years, where in you're sixteen now, but I'll tell you what they're gonna have to say, wait, this is not good enough. And this is Winston Churchill had a great quote, this is a bunch of crap with up with which I will not put And and they've got it. They've got to take the ownership. We were we were saying, hey,

look we got our back four back and our goalkeeper back. We just gave up ten percent of the goals we gave up last year, right, we give up thirty two last year, we give them three. He's just almost you know, maybe nine point eight whatever it is. But but still that's that's not the team we're used to seeing. That's not the standard those

have set. And they you know, and now guess what we're going to l A and LA's top of the table, right, so it's it's not going to be an easy They've got to come together and they got to get right. But at the end of the day, it's work. And here's the thing we heard Brad Evans say it what God is. The second goal was the diagonal ball that Danny Leva hit that caused the penalty on Goma's androte right, and that God is the penalty and that's the first dagonal ball.

We saw two diagonal balls, and that's it. When Ozzie was playing for us, those diagonal balls were great. When JP was on the field, those diagona balls, they opened things up. Your wingers have to be able to get service at a time where the defense is shifted to one side. So diagonal ball takes everybody's on the right side, it gets pinged to the

left and then you can go out of them. But there was not enough of that, and there's not enough direct play trying to slip a guy in or you know, you take a free kick and the defense is on the thirty yard line and you got Jordan Morris who can run by most people in this league, and we play a little five yard square ball without you looking forward. Not good enough, not good enough. Catch somebody remember last year Jackson Reagan hit that great ball up and over the top. Christian I think

takes it off as chess boom. It's in the back of the net, right and it's a it's a foul, it's quick boom. So they've got to engage, they got to wake up, and they got to stop living off of Hey, we got a Champions League trophy. No one cares. That was a long time ago. And to that point, I'm like, I'm not care. I'm not gonna we do care, but that's the standard that was. So this is the thing, right, I mean, yes, we care. Obviously we care because it's the element or I am so

frustrated right now and I'm so angry with what we're seeing. And that's the point, is the fact that this is what the emphasis of caring and having emotion and we just want to see that fight. And I'm not gonna call any specific players out, but to your point of winning CONCA CAF right now, it's sort of a thing where listen, guys, and I'm not gonna call it anybody specifically. I realized you got your paychecks, you got big contract extensions, you got a lot of money. I realize you have mless

cups in the cabinet. You have Coca half from the cabinet. You have a lot of trophies in the cabinet. You've got personal success, you've got team success. You're one of the veteran leaders. You're looked up to by all these kids. You got personal growth. You know if you are growing, and you've had such amazing careers over the last decade, so many of these exceptional players who are legends in Rave Green. But there is a certain point where you've got to stand up as a leader and you got to say

this is not right. We cannot take this. We must play better than this because what we are seeing on the field through four games is not good enough. It's not good enough. All right, let's continue on the postmatch show. We'll talk about La Galaxy coming up next. That's more on Sports Radio nine to fifty kr AM. You're listening to the home of Sounders FCS Sports Radio nine fifty KJR. Welcome back to the postmatch show. Jackson Feltz

Pete feuing here, and I want to take a moment too quickly. I kind of lost it there at the end of that last segment, and to quickly kind of just clarify and again I'm not calling any specific player out I think. I'm just I need to see better results from the team. I need to see, you know, just that fire that we used to see from the Sounders. You know. I again, I'm not trying to call any specific player. I'm really not, honestly. It's more of just I'm

frustrated with these results. I'm frustrated with being at the bottom of the table and this this team is too talented to not be getting more points. So again, I wasn't directed towards anybody specifically. It's just a frustration with not getting good enough results and you know, being able to get an equalizer but not being able to hold on the point. It's just it's more frustration. But again, you know, these players have been great for in Rave Green

for so long. They've been exceptional players Pete for so long. I love them, I respect them so much, all of the veteran leaders on this team. They've done so much for us. They've won so many trophies, they've earned their contract extensions. I should mentioned, they've earned all of everything

that they've gotten. It's just frustrating that the results aren't following that. Well, I'll tell you what I know that your sentiment in the last segment is probably exactly what coaches feel, owners feel, fans feel, players feel. Players feel it too. They got to get it right and they got to turn around and this isn't the standard years ago, in the first year of the team, second year of the team, and Adrian gave a refund because

you're so disappointed with the team. So you care and you know that there's quality and you know that this isn't the Seattle Sounders that we know, and we got to get it right. And it is funny if you look around the league, there's a lot of teams that really have been at the bottom of the table for many, many years, and it'd be well, it's another game, right, But that's not the caliber of this team. And

so I get it. I get it, and I'm sure, I mean, I feel for Brian right now, and I feel for Adrian Hana right now. This is this isn't what they're used to and Craig Wible, Hey, we got to get this thing right. So sometimes you got to vent a little bit and let it out and then and then that's where changing. Uh, you can you can start anew But I think the players have to come together and say, look, this is not who we are and it's not good enough. Yeah, and that part of the sentiment I do stand

by. I think that was that was very fair. But again, you know, to any players, I'm not calling specific players out. They've all earned their contracts out. They've all done amazing job. I love this team and I love the players. I love talking to them on a weekly basis. It's just the results need to be better on the passion. So that's that's where they got you good goals. I'll take the penancas. That was courageous. It wasn't. Congratulations and congrats to Masovski forgetting his first. Well

this wasn't to win three to two loss to San Jose. But when the Sounders win, you'll win a free mix Chicken the next day, exclusively in the McDonald's app with any minimum two dollars purchase down on the McDonald's app today and check out the deals waiting for you. You know, so watch the match MS season Pass on the Apple TV app or listen in Spanish Leguage on LRA thirteen sixty. The Sounders are in Los Angeles to face the Galaxy,

so another road match down in California. Pete will see who's available. But you know, these lineups and the choices for Brian Spencer, so much of it just depends on who's healthy for this team right now. Yeah, that's it. Hopefully we'll get a few more guys. We've got an entire week to get back on track and it is back to LA You come home tonight and then head back down most likely on the Friday. But hopefully we'll get

another couple of guys in. But more than anything, if the same starting eleven starts, I think we'll see more urgency from the beginning of the game and more intensity. The one thing that I thought was interesting Lava got kicked, Tev's got kicked, Soda got kicked knocked to the ground, and the look on the defender's face when they did it was, Hey, welcome to

San Jose. Welcome to Major League Soccer. So a little bit of that grit has to go both directions, and Seattle might have to somedays you got to roll your sleep up in battle. You got to outwork them, and you gotta get stuck in on a tackle and send a message. Yeah. Absolutely so, well hopefully we will see that coming up next Saturday in Los Angeles. We'll also, of course, and that's by the way, it's actually not gonna be on Sports Radio nine fifty. We're actually not gonna have

that. It's gonna be over on the stream. So the Sounders FC stream channel next Saturday will have Sounders Galaxy and once again seven o'clock Providence. We just prematched that will be in the Sounders FC stream channel on iHeartRadio, So we'll talk to you there next Saturday. We'll talk to you on Wednesday for Sounders Weekly and listen. Thank you all for the broadcast. Again. I had to kind of get my feelings out there. You know, I love

sports. It's why we love sports. Is why I have such a passion, and I love this team and I love these players, and I love everybody with this club. Sometimes it comes out with that sort of passion so there it is. I want to thank everybody with a broadcast, great call today from Danny Jackson and Brad Evans. Great to do this alongside Pete Fewing today Andrews first an excellent job on the board. My name is Jackson Felts. We thank you so much for listening. And CBS Sports Radio was coming up next
