Welcome back to the Providence, Swedish premat show. Seattle Sounders FC facing Austin FC tonight in the home opener from Lumenfield. It is chilly tonight here in Seattle. It's been a wild weather day here in the Emerald City. If you are driving around, if you live here, if you're listening to us here in the city, you know today has been quite a weather day. And it is now chilly inside of Luminfield, but the rain is holding off,
so that is nice. Let's dive into today's sharp vision opponent ALC on Austin. This is an Austin team that to say disappointment for twenty twenty three, that would be an understatement. Listen, two years ago, twenty twenty two, they finished second place in the Western Conference. They went to the
Western Conference Final, losing to LAFC. They were a top club just a couple of years ago, and then last year they slipped all the way to twelfth place in the Western Conference. This year, they started the season with a two to one lost against Minnesota. Two to one is very generous. They could have lost that thing four to one. Minnesota was on them from the first minut I was seeing a stat where they out shot him on target nine to one in the first half. It's a rough outing for Austin there
in the first three of the season. But like Seattle, it is just a two to one loss and they come now to Seattle with a chance to get their first win as well. P viewing, what do you see from this Austin team when we look at a lineup that is a is slightly rotated, Jossy Zarrees on the bench, their new signing Diego Rubio is starting in place of him today, a couple other switches, but still you can see
some players who have quality on this team. You can right down the spine Rubio up front, Valencia in the center of the park and Hedges longtime veteran, and then Stewart the goalkeeper is fantastic, so he's he's gonna be called on Tonight's try to get that clean sheet. It's a good team. Gallagher on the right, it's good coming forward, and Colemiak on the on the left is also one that that's one Brian Schwetzer had talked about coming out of
the left. He's dangerous. So this is a good team. But they are a hungry team and to your point. I was talking with Terry Boss, who's one of the assistant coaches. It's fun. Here's the deal. I'm standing by the field. Terry Boss comes out, former Sounder. Then Preston Burpo comes out, the current goalkeeper coach for Austin with Steph Cleveland. I'm like, holy couch. It's three goalies who played for the Sounders.
I say, welcome home, welcome home, welcome home. So but Terry said last year they were nervous right as coaches, they were like, we gotta win. There's a ton of pressure because of what they did the year before. They've got to win. And you're right, that Minnesota game could have been much worse. So they've got to get a result tonight. For the Sounders, they need the result as well because their next one is at Philadelphia, and Philadelphia is man. They look great in Conker Cap play a
week ago, so Seattle's got to get it done tonight. But I like the spine of this team and they are hungry and they're they're very excited to play here. And for head coach Josh Wolf, I mean his back is sort of up against the wall because you know, if there's any coach, you may be on a hot seat in MLS this early. It is him after the disappointing year last year, they kept him. They didn't make a change. And now, all right, Austin, you know Josh wolf and
you have your son Owen Wolf on the team as well. You got to turn this around and get you back to the way the twenty twenty two went so for Josh Wolfe. I mean, this is this is a hungry team. It's a team that certainly has a fire behind him to get a win, especially and make a statement here in Seattle tonight. And I'll mention that tonight's opponent, aw Look is presented by Sharp Vision Modern LESC and Lens, the official Lasik provider of Sounders FCEE Pete. Let's move to our players to
watch very quick thirty seconds. Who you going with? Well, for me, it's Andrew Thomas Rights. He was the heir apparent even when we had Stephan Cleveland. Remember Wade Weberson. I think I think Thomas is going to be our goalkeeper one day. So how he organizes, how he comes out on crosses, you are correct, he can't be faulted for the goals at Los Angeles but a clean sheet tonight would be fantastic for him. I'm going
with the easy answer. It's Pedro de Levega. You know, this is his first start here in MLS, first star with the Sounders, and he's starting not only on the left wing where he played against AFC off the bench
last week. He's starting at the number ten spot. He's wearing number ten, starting at the ten some pressure, that is a lot of pressure and moreover, and yeah here here the home opener and moreover also you know, leaning on his creativity with guys like Jordan and Christian and Leo off his left, let's see if he can utilize their talents and come up with a big performance today in his debut here in Seattle. So that's my player to watch.
Good call there with Pete for Andrew Thomas. We're just about twenty minutes away from kick here at Emerald Queen Casino pitch at Luminfield. show. I head up the Seattle Sounders home opener against Austin FC today well on Thursday afternoon, Seattle Sounders life legend Ozzy Alonzo signed a one day contract to retire as a member of the club. The Cuban nicknamed El Corozone, spent fifteen years in MLS, ten of which came here in Seattle, starting
of course, in two thousand and nine with the expansion season. As Adrian Hanauer said in the history of Sounders Soccer, there are certain players who epitomize the ethos of this club, who are stamped with the grit, determination,
and mindset that our organization stands for. It's Andrew Adrian hanauur. Over the decade with the Rave Green, Ozzy played twenty three thousand, three hundred and eighty one minutes across two hundred and seventy seven regular season games, scoring ten goals and recording twenty four assists, and his three hundred and thirty nine appearances across all competitions for the club stand out as the most of any outfield player
in the club's MLS era. At a press conference on Thursday, with his family in attendance and as trust me, very few eyes in the building, Ozzy, alongside head coach Brian Schpenzer, they talked about Ozzy's impact not only to the club but across the entire league. I want you to hear a clip from that press conference on Thursday where I asked Ozzy and Brian about the moment that epitomizes who Ozzy was as a player here in Seattle. Obviously,
there was so many games and so many years. But for each of you, I'm wondering, Ozzy and Brian, if there's one play or moment, not necessarily winning a championship, scoring a goal or anything like that, but if there's one moment that kind of stands out and epitomizes your time in Seattle, or just you know, the way you played, if there's one thing that stands out in your brain of of I remember when I did this,
I remember when Ozzy did that. You want me to start, Yeah, Okay, maybe two stories, Jackson, because one's a personal one and then one's about the team. So again, when I first met Ozzy when he was playing for Charleston, I remember the store. Layton O'Brien was my best player at the time, and Ozzie was playing for Charleston, and Ozzie was just killing Layton, and Layton was getting all upset and he was complaining to the referee, and I even got up and started complaining about the referee.
And one time I was complaining and Ozzy was just started looking at me, and I stared at him, and he was staring right back at me, and none of us wanted to blink. And he actually won. He won. He and I said, Okay, that guy means business. He's the guy, and so that's one of the reasons why we wanted to bring him to Seattle. Okay, that very moment when we locked eyes, I knew
he was a competitor. And then the game against Sporting Kansas City in the playoffs with the tackle right on the sideline, right in front of the bench, and their whole team just lost it. Peter Burmes the press conference afterwards with I forget the player his name, but he was very sarcastic in his comments. But it was a typical Aussie tackle. Maybe was a little bit too late, maybe I don't know, but that propelled us, you know,
in that championship year to go on the bigger and better things. Yeah, I want to say that particular play I got him video because my license with Bennie, however, was that, Yeah, I play against him one time. I think I don't know cancer. I thought to me, No, I remember you play against me in the playoff and you YouTube send off. I said, no, Bennie, I got a video here, So I tried a video. Yeah, I never touched him. I never touching. I got a video because he told to me like, no YouTube been
sent off and we will win the game. But that moment was great because I found the video I recorded. I got on my phone here to show him that I was a good tago and even touches. So of course it was a good memory because that tagle couldn't be seven off and we could lose the game. But fortunately in the end, next what's going to go? And that yeah, in the eighty seven many and I think that moment was was a great moment. But also when we were in the band of the
table was the thing because it was hard time in the beginning. I know that day we tie, I think the game and you started talking with us and telling like we got tying guys. I remember with eleven point behind the playoff line, fourteen games to go, and I just can't say we're not
finish. Yes, we got formal team games. We had to go on and then the day we win the trophy, and you know so probably because I was waiting for that moment for so many you you deserve that moment, beautiful bear from Brian, from Ozzy on those moments, Pete, I mean, there there will be another, never another one in this Seattle like Ozzy Alonto. He's a legend and it's great to see him being honored today. Well, I thought when we signed Casey Keller to the first team, I
thought that was great. I think Casey and Ozzy put the team on the shoulder and set the standards of what it was going to be to be a Seattle Sounder in Major League soccer, and everybody was so proud of him. My memory is playing the Vancouver white Caps and he scored a phenomenal goal. I think he scored two, but then unfortunately made an air at the edge of the box and gave up the tying goal and it ended up being a tie. And I saw him after with his family there. Brad Evans is
introducing him right now on the field, which is great. People are very excited about this, but Ozzy was distraught. He was crying. He was so upset that he had cost his team two points, getting only the one for the tie instead of the two. He wasn't over the top about his goals. He was more concerned that he had let his team down. So he was just a conti at pro. That's the cheers for Ozzie right there,
and he's just got a ton of respect. He got five more years after he left the Seattle Sounders, and that's with a pretty beat up body and with a bad knee. Gonzo had him at Atlanta and he wanted him for the same reasons why Seattle wanted him here. Minnesota got him from Seattle. Minnesota wanted him for the same reasons why Seattle did. Locker room guy, hard worker, tough, tough, tough, tough, toughest nails, and just a great guy. So I'm very glad he signed a one day
contract comeback. They're bringing out all the cups right now. That August been part of four Open Cups, two Western Conference Championships, a Supporter Shield, and of course the MLS Cup in twenty sixteen. No other like Ozzie Alonso, the legend. He is the honor. Tonight signed a one day contract. He is retiring as a member of the Seattle Sounders. What a career, what a legend? Number six. Hopefully somewhere someday it hangs in the
rafters for the Sounders. He is, He is like no other, and it's just so great to see him back in as he is being honored today. We'll take a break here in the Providence. We just prematch YOA. We'll come back and wrap it up. We'll give you once again the Sounders situation for tonight facing Austin FC. More caring up as we count you down to kickoff. Maw a podium with Ozzie Alonzo and his family standing in front of many trophies that Ozzie won here in Seattle as he waves a flag born in nineteen seventy four. What a brilliant moment here. This is awesome to see Ozzie. It's
awesome for this ceremony, But we got a match ahead of us. Sounders they lost two to one in their opener. Austin they lost two to one in their opener. What are your keys to the match for this one? Well, I think it's protect your goalkeeper to begin with. Don't let him get any unnecessary shots, no unnecessary fouls. Don't make it easy for Austin. Our wing play is potent. On the right side, you got the roll dallnd Brothers. On the left side, knew who and Chew get the
ball into Jorge Morris. Get the ball into Taylor Vegas so he can do his business. Take people on. But we got to get a clean sheet at the back. Mariaga Reagan gotta lock it down. I like our back four, I like our midfield, and I like what we're gonna hopefully see tonight with Pedro and Morris upfront. So they've just got to get back to It's a home game. It's a great crowd. They got to start fast and they've got to put this Austin team under pressure right away. This is
a great crowd. Gosh, the boom, boom, clap. It is a massive crowd. Much of the Hawk's nest is open, much of it failled as players are walking out. We'll be in their new rave green top with of course the brand evolution last year, the new crest dawning. They will have Awqua's shorts, white socks, a classic new look for the Sounders. First time our fans we'll see it here on the field at lumen Field.
And there is another addition to hear a luminfield a light show. There's new strobe lights and new lights installed, and it appears in the rafters here a lumen blinking and blues and greens, and they split off fireworks for Ozzy Alonzo. So you can kind of imagine if you're driving right now, there is just a haze of smoke from the fireworks filling the stadium and the strobe lights of green and white and blue are just blaring throughout that. This is
a magnificent sight. I don't think we've seen here for a Sounders match. This is something special and it is about to get electric on the field as the Sounders are finally for the first time since last November back here playing soccer here in Seattle. Will take a break, Danny Jackson, Brad Evans, they will have the call for Sounders Austin. The home opener starts next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. Now time for Sounders FC Sucker.
Good evening from EQC Pitch at lumen Field for this Western Conference matchup between your Sounders and Austin FC. Austin heading to Seattle after a pause, showing in their first game versus Minnesota, losing two to one at home. The Verde In Black had a franchise best season in twenty twenty two, finishing second in the Western Conference, but twenty twenty three did not go according to plan, as they finished twelfth place and missed the playoffs. Coming into tonight, pressure
is already building on head coach Josh Wolf for the Sounders. They missed five potential starters in their first game, lost versus LAFC, but even with the loss of key players, the Sounders prove their strengthen depth with strong performances across the pitch. Four players their competitive Sounders debut last week, with both Andrew Thomas and Pedro de la Vega making their first MLS start. While the Sounders
are still missing personnel this week, that won't phaze Brian Schmittz's men. Back in the summer of twenty twenty one, five teenagers started an MLS game versus Austin, and the Sounders came out one nil winners. The new training facility at Long Acres, our fiftieth anniversary celebration League's Cup and a team ready to compete for an MLS championship. This is going to be a really fun season. My name's Danny Jackson alongside former Sounders captain Brad Edmonds for the call tonight.
So Brad, as both teams get lined up ready to go, let me get your quick thoughts on what the Sounders have to do tonight to get their first winner of the season. Well, we talked to Schmitzer yesterday and
we has to is this a must win? Is there pressure? Didn't say it was a must win, but you kind of got the feeling that this is a big one for the Sounders to get a result at home opening this season in front of thirty thousand plus fans, and as Pedro de la Vega get in the game off, Pedro dela Vega playing in that number ten role
will get you those lineups as things get set. Sounders in their anniversary kit queen shirts with blue pin stripes, blue shorts and it changed tonight of blue socks, and Austin in their Armadillo kit cream shirts, cream shorts, cream socks. They're attacking the goal to our right to the south end and Sounders as typical in the first half, we're going to attack the goal to our
left the north end. Sounders making a couple of changes to this lineup, and as the Sounder starting to build out the back with Jackson Reagan over the far side to the right, rolls it into Vargas to roll down, giveaway to Valencia middle of the field. Austin coming in after a two to one loss. Who mentioned against Minnesota pause showing in our first half as they played down the line this near side easy for new little step over come as you
like, flick of the outside of the foot maintains possessions. Sounders come away with it. Pedro de la Vega striding forward made real impact in that first game against LAFC. Of course, stepped on and showed all the confidence in the world to score that penalty kick to put the Sounders back in the game. They just couldn't get that equalizing goal. But here's della Vega left hand channel cuts across, a little stepover, try to get around John Gallagher towards
the end line. Clip down the line held up by Obrian giving away to attend to your good early pressure by the Sounders. De la Vega on the left hand side, just walking back from position coast to the far post, but the easily collective I've bressed Uber in the goal, so let's get that delta. Starting eleven for your Sounders. Andrew Thomas second start in a row for the young man, starts in goal, the back four of roll Don Reagan, Haurriaga comes in on that left hand side and then knew who Obd
Vargas, Josh Atencio in the middle of the field and attacking three. Roll Don Pedro de la Vega getting his first start for the Sounders after coming off the bench against LAFC. Starts in that number ten, Roll Leo two on
the left, Jordan Morris up front. Let's get the Austin lineup four to three to three for Josh Wolfe's team, Brad Struver and goal back forth Gallagher Cascente, Hedges Kolomeneck midfield three of ring Valencia Pereira and then attacking three of Obrian rick Onny and Diego Rubio getting his first start for his new club as he comes across from Colorado. But Brad we touched on it. Brian Schmizer mentioned the must win They've got to Philadelphia next week, so certainly getting off
the right foot at home is going to be vital. He must pick up three points tonight. This one's vital for the Sounder. So yeah, there's a couple of changes, a couple of guys missing, but at home, fiftieth anniversary opening up of the season. With these with these fans, the Sounders should be flying at the start of this game. And I think the addition of Pedro de la Vega starting this one, I think we'll give the Sounders a boost. It's a new pitch here also, so getting used to
this pitch. I know they trained here Thursday and Friday, the Sounders did to get used to it, so no excuses on the pitch. When these things play, it's a little bit slowed down subduede. So the Sounders just have to be careful in the back right because this ball can, even though it's wet, get a little bit sticky. So all everything tonight. Pedro de la Vega, let's see what he can do in this pocket. He's already showed from the start that he can pick out passes at Delavega over the
top of little flick by hedges essentially finds itself to Stuber. But Jordan Morrish is playing off that shoulder getting in behind Pedro del Vega, siddly Go the eye for the passes Brad mentioned as Austin FC tries to build out the back far side. The Left's mentioned both teams in their new kits for this season. The Armadillo Kid for Austin is speaking to their heritage as a live music city. The ball gets flicked away from now but collected by aubri Ane.
Another new signing for Austin FC. Just a wriggle free comes right in front of the Sounder's bench, could be a Sounder store and they get it right back into it. We've already seen a little difference from Knew Who than last game. We talked to Schmitz about Dad and that was Knew Who playing his role. He wants knew Who to be a veteran player. He is at this point. He's been here since he was nineteen years old, so he
knows the Sounders, he knows what we're all about. Yes, he has the dramatic effect when he's on the field, but we just need him to be that lockdown defender early on in this game, showing what he can do in his one on one defending skill set. Well, of course, knew who not just getting the experience over the years. Here are the Sounders, but of course with Cameroon on the national stage as well, I think a couple of nations had some wonderful performance. There's World Cup qualifying games, but
all those games under his belt. Now as he plays the ball from center to the far side the right to Reagan to Alex rolled up, picks it up, strides forward top right, corner of the box, gotta clip it to Pedro de la Vega, tries to bring it down, isn't able to a little turn away from pressure from Obrion top of that box. Foul on Obrien. It's gonna be a free kick for Austin FC. Here in the fifth minute Sounders nil, Austin FC nil ninety three point three KJR FM.
If you're at home in the car, thanks for joining us so wild atmosphere, Brad, you were down there to celebrate Ossie Alonso before the game. Might show sending a lot of energy in the crowd tonight. Here a ton of energy tonight and what a way again. We're gonna talk about this all season, but fiftieth anniversary it can't mean any more to this club started the new facility down at Long Acres in just a history right for the fans to
come out and for the club to put something special into this year. It means something. Crowd stand on their feet, ball goes over the top, Jordan Morris cleared by hedges. But it's gonna be a Sounders throw thirty yards or so from the call of flag fasted. The right comes back to Jackson, Reagan and Brad already seeing a low block from Austin. Is that what you expect? So in these early stages, sound Is gonna have to be
patient trying to find those gaps on the counter. I think with Austin, you're not getting the result at home in their first game, they'd have to come here and think that they got to get a result. For them to do that, they do have to sit in a low block and play for the counter. But they're missing zard Is, They're missing a number of players, so they don't really have the freedom to really get forward. The Sounder is gonna have a tough task of breaking this group down. What you've already
seen is Alex Roldan so much higher than at LAFC. Really going with three in the back for the Sounders loose ball by Alex Roldan. That was the challenge last week, brought up both by Brad Evans on the call but also Brian Schamezzi. Is too many cheap giveaways at times against LAFC kind of broke that momentum down. Sounders did outpossess LAFC last week, but I just couldn't
get a result, so they went down two goals to one. Again bright spot because we mentioned Pedro de la Vega coming on the field and having the confidence to walk behind the goal, pick up the ball, put it on the penalty spot and roll it past World Cup winning goalkeeper Hugo Luise. It's always great to get your first one on a PK. Right, He's taking
these before in multiple competitions. I mean, he was a player who was a star for the Argentinian under twenties, you know, unfortunate to pick up an injury, but then worked so hard to get back last year and was a consistent starter in Argentina, which we know is a tough league, and so many good players have come out of Argentina. Right, look at Diego Valeri, right, these players are just built different and he's showing that already
early in this game. With this pace of power, Pega de l Vega left channel picks it up as a lose bulk challenged by Cascantel one two no back jets Hensio in his new number eight flick stores the far post just bounces in the six yarb up two is a flashing run by Christian roldne off that right hand side just eludes the Sounders. Number seven bounces through to Stuva and the Austin goal. Look how high Alex Roldon is right here. It's really three in the back, three in the midfield, almost four up top.
And Schmettz talked about that we might see a three four three. They can go into a three fourth three with the personnel, because one thing that's been lacking is that service Alex two three years ago. I mean, he had six or seven assists every season. There's no reason why he can't provide that. De le Vega's good in the air. I think he has more options now with dey le Vega versus Bruce Knack on the pitch. If it pays dividends, Paul goes back to Alex Roldon just tucked in at Jackson Regod step
fall into the feet of de la Vega. Lord touch and a spin away from the Sounders. Number ten attend to strikes. Four tries to find Jordan Morris, just cut out by hedges. Look back for the experienced center back for Austin FCoS remember his time in Dallas for so many years. Cascante Portland FC player Portland Timbers player as Valencia steps into the midfield today in place of Owen Wolf. As Josh Wolf mentioned head coach in his press conference after the
game last week, just really disappointed, just didn't recognize the team. But played in that first half against Minnesota. Minnesota dominated all parts of the game, possession, shots, and if it wasn't for Brad Suv, it's certainly been a lot worse than that. Two goals to one Scoreliners super does clear
it finds the foot of new who from pressure, that's Oriaga. But tonight's match is brought to you by Western Washington, Toyota Dealers, Toyota Let's go places get here in the tenth minute, still nil nil, but sound is playing on the front foot. Good amount of possession these early early moments for
the Sounders. If they gets settled in playing at home, certainly feels about a little bit like a new environment, new field, new lights, feel little brighter out there with the new led floodlights just certainly feels like a new Star fifteth anniversary. You mentioned some great video on the board Sounders fans coming
out in their numbers tonight, standing room only. That's the first thing I noticed when I walked in the same I thought the pitch looked overly lit up almost, but it's it's you know, the new pitches out the lights are on different lights. It does provide that theatrix tonight, and now it's a matter of the Sounders can we put it together? And Alex just has to be very careful. We've seen it two or three times now. Yes, it's a three four to three in attack. He's almost in the attacking line,
one of the highest players on the field. He's turned rover twice now and we saw what happened against LAFC last year in the playoffs. He has to know that if he loses that ball, it is now a ninety yard sprint back. He's got to negate those mistakes and allow the Sounders to build and be very very conscious where he is on the pitch. As a defender. I was told that's ten to fifteen yard boards just cannot be given away.
That is just murder in the back line, Della Vega has it left Channel's gonna flick to the far posters right foot high and long, easily collected by Steuva, decked out in all black with a slash of orange across his chest. Preston Burper, of course, former Sounders goalkeeper. It's the goalkeeping coach for usin FC and another familiar face. And David Tenney started out here with Ziggi Schmidt and the whole crew in two thousand and nine. Remember those
days bred with David Tenny running you up and down those fields. In that first preseason, Alex Ring finds the food at Pereira, left channel, striding Forward's got RAGONI out to the left hand side, top corner of the b pressure into kalamanech back from acl injured last year, to Valencia top of the box, just skips by it. Tensio rolls it too that left hand side to Pereira, comes back, giving away cheaply. The Tensio steps then just
goes off. The sound is number eight foot It's gonna be a throne for Austin the farst side they're left, but good patients from Austin right, allowing the keeper to have the ball. Stewart to build the player comes out wide right ring pulls himself all the way out to the right channel. Sounders have to be careful not to be pulled out a position with I'm surprised Austin FC.
They're gonna come out and sit in a low block. But once they do get the ball, they're good at moving the ball left to right and left to right. The Sounders just have to shift shift appropriately, keep all the guys on one side. Christian cannot be the furthest guy on the field when defending. Alex and Christian have to sort that out. Otherwise it's going to be a long day of going side to side and side to side for these midfielders. As he mentioned Obrian coming in from Dallas remember him in his
playoff minutes that he played against the Sounders in twenty twenty three. That right side is certainly an area of the field that sounds you have to be careful of. John Gallagher, right back for Austin FC, had a standout here last year five goals, eight assists on his year from right back, there's new steps and slices out of bounds. It's going to be an Austin FC
throw on this near side the right. But sound As FC Soccer is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC is the rain and drizzle just starts to wash across the field. They make the ground a little bit more slick, which the players like. All shifts around this new pitchers Brad mentioned. Both teams just getting used to their surroundings. Jack so Reagan steps forward, tries to find the ball in between the lions. To Jordan Morris,
it's quite last week against LAFC in terms of touches. He's in transition where he's the most effective so last week because he got pulled down for a penalty kick as Austin Bill this nearside the right, Galagan steps inside. Sounds just putting a little impression now with Leo Chu. But he will on the defensive side of his game and area. But Brian Schmitz's spoken about a lot with his attacking three, a couple of areas that Petri de la Vega is
just getting Brian Schmitz's guidelines on how he likes his team to defend. And you know, Bret, today's game, eleven players have to defend. Don't get away with eight to nine anymore. Well, that's where it's a little bit different for Austin than it is for Seattle. I think it's a like for like for Diego and and Zardezardes used to be the slasher that gets in behind. He's not that player anymore. When Zardez is starting, he's a
target, right, He's good in the air, he scores headers. Rubio is a similar player who played together in Kansas City, and he's a bruiser. He's not gonna be the guy that gets in behind, but he is going to check back for the ball and make life really difficult for the center backs. So I think Austin when they do sub in players, it's a little bit more like for like, and when the Sounders make a change, you know Ruy Diez for Jordan, when they when they move guys around,
it mixes things up much more different than Austin. It comes to agony for Ross and FC and transition strikes forward in the attacking half of the field to s a role. It's the right hand side. Alex Ring did not support, just putting his hands down to tell his teammate just to calm down, retain some possession. Patrick de la Vega picks it off. Knew who getting involved already, Brad just getting his foot in the ball, certainly confident.
His first MLS start for the Sounders, first game here at lumin Field, that's right at home. Yeah, I think for a more mature veteran type player, they're gonna come in and be an instant impact. For a young guy like this to have never played in a league like this. Yes, it's as physical as it is in Argentina, but I think it's a little bit faster here, and so he's got to build himself into the game and it's gonna take him a little while before we see the best of de la
Vega. Yeah, you get off the scoring mark, you know with a PK. Now can you contribute in different ways? But I think the biggest question is how he and Jordan are gonna play together. If I'm a number nine, I've played that in college, believe it or not, but I always had a good relationship with my number ten. Every time they got the ball, they're looking from my feet, and that's the relationship that they have to build with each other, and that's gonna take a little bit of time.
Is there a position he didn't play Brett just goalkeeper, just goalkeeper. That was just Alex rolled on. Its Alex rolled on. But does the Sounder to have in possession tacking off the field, just try to build find an opportunity to test brat Steuba. Ball goes down the right hand side, Christian well do whip sitting towards that front post, head it over and it's gonna be a corner cake for the Sounders. Nil Neil Brett Evans h that's
better. One two interchange from the brothers. Find Christian down the line and that's that first time ball where all the autin FC defenders are now on the p K spot and they're turned around right. You have to get that ball in behind and curled away from the goalkeeper from the right hand side. Christian does a pretty good job of getting it there, but Da la Vega's waiting makes a good strong run Jordan Morris as well, and Hedges puts it out
for a corner kick. A good opportunity here for the Sounders and let's see if they can draw up something here because in the past set pieces have not been magic for the Sounders, and I hopefully so. Two hundred and one corner kicks for the Sounders in twenty twenty three, second most in MLS. The worst execution. The ball comes in, drops down, he's aheaded by Jackson Reagan, bouncing around bench cleared by Austin, finds the feet of News
gonna clip it towards the far post. Header on goal. Just wide goal kick for Austin, but again decent delivery bred Evans chance on gold. Yeah, good delivery from Pedro. I think the ball finds its way onto just about the corner of the six p k mark and Jackson is just unlucky enough he gets his head on it. It goes straight down, hits an Austin defender. Sounders owning up with the ball and it's a good little first time ball form knew who to find the far post, and Atensio just gets a
glancing header out. He'd like to have that one back and think well, the questions were asked a little bit with Josh Atensio and Jackson Reagan when we talked to Brian Schmidtz to the expectation two big boys and set piece situations. We mentioned second most corner kicks last season, sitting one of the most the lowest number of execute Jick Golds. Two of those goals last year were in one game against Vancouver, well cleared by Stuvea pasta halfway line, easily collected
by Ariaga, who we were the game last week. Brett Ariog came in, stepped in, played a good cameo when he came on, and certainly got the naught of confidence from Bruns Schmetz for tonight's game. I think with Jamar still getting fitness, Nathan having to get his situation sorted, it was always going to be Ariaga tonight. But his introduction last week almost gave everyone a heart attack dribbling inside the box. But he had a clean game after
that. The Sounders are always chasing that one, and I think what Arioga provides is that long ball playing out of the back so he could play with both left and right feet, and what a number three center back to have sitting on your bench. And Arioga's got the MLS experience, he knows what
to do. He's a hard nosed defender and playing three in the back actually suits him as more of a center back as the Sounders push push forward offensively, Sounders habit and Austin's half the field and it's a tenure rolls down the right hand side to the blonde head. Alex rolled On comes inside again, a little bit loose on the pass, eventually cleaned up by Vargas's new has
its left center of the park. It's gonna strike and shoot hits. The target could shot from all of thirty yards by the Sounders left back, easily collected by Stuba, remains nil nil well conversions on PK kicks. I'd like to see the conversions from New Who on thirty yard shots. But at the end of the day, it's not necessarily about scoring, right, it's putting
the ball on frame and making Austin's second guests themselves. When New Who does pick the ball up, what are they gonna do if they do step that provides space for day la Vega to come inside for a little one too, So I don't mind it. Go ahead and who have one or two of those, and see what Austin does defensively. Now, when the Sounders build and get on top of the box, sorr Igo stepped forward trying to win
the ball Man first free kick for Austin. You mentioned that the only team last week that lost at home, so they're certainly trying to turn things around after a poor season last year. New personnel in the front office for Austin FC Rudorf for Burrell, huge amount of experience both in the Barcelona academy where one certain Messi was under his toutelage before we moved to Liverpool and then Man City as the assistant coach under Guardiola steps in as a technical director in GM
for Austin last summer. As de la Vega strikes forward, good tackle by Cascante, plays the ball, fans looking for a free kick, nothing given by the referee. Here come the Sounders ball back into the foot of della Vega across the six yard bucks cleared by Cascante, but it's gonna be a corner kick for the Sounders. Well done from Pedro there. That's the pace and power we want, right from your number ten taking on guys, being able to break a tackle and it is a good tackle, but welcome to
MLS. That's the first one at home. But he gets up unscathed and the Sounders push on and I think Jordan wanted better service area's lurking just inside the two center backs. The Sounders get another corner kick out of this one to see if they can convert a little bit cleaner from Jackson. We'll go short this time to Alex schol Dan twenty yards out, flicking towards the bombos Heater on goal. Over the top goal kick for Oscembers a good chance for
Jackson. Reagan on that postman's no nail. I think Jackson has the matchup that he wants, and it's the second one that he's gotten. On the end of it's a short corner kick back to Alex good service at the at the back of the box. Yeah, it's a good matchup for Jackson, but he's got to get his body into the defender early so he can bump him so he can get a clean header. That's the last thing missing missing
for Jackson. I think if he gets one, he's gonna get five or six in a season, because all it takes is that one to get confidence. When you build that space, you bump the defender, it's life or death in there. The defender knows that the knock is coming, the referee knows that it's coming to take a chance. He just needs to believe in his size. He's such a big voice, such a big frame, he needs to use it. Now is Arioga little late right in from the sounder's
bench, runs over Rubio. It's gonna be an early yellow cut Forrioga. People of the players pushing each other or get just getting pushed away by the referee. He's gonna be a yellow card. Probably more like bad timing bread than anything else. But referee, he's gonna give the sound to send it back and early yellow card. You know, Austin breaks here and that's one. You know, Diego. Rubio is getting a little bit older. He does have some speed and Marioga is not the fastest. I thought he was
gonna go to ground there and get one of his traditional slide tackles. He's a little bit behind the play, and I think he thought Rubio would get a touch down the line. So better safe than sorry, take a yellow card here. It's fine, throw him into the bench. But now, if I know Diego, the rest of this match is gonna be tough for Ariaga because now he's gonna try and get him his second yellow as best as he can. And Diego is gonna scratch, claw, he's gonna kick,
he's gonna bite and do whatever he can. It's a little early to take a yellow card, but one if he doesn't diego possibly gets in inside the eighteen. Well, it's an SGB yellow card when a foul is cooled. SGB trial lawyers are hit to help visit sgblaw dot com sounders. We defend. This free kick comes in towards the middle of the box, well collected by Andrew Thomas as real first involvement in the game. Nice and clean and
bred. He had a good game last week. The goals he couldn't do anything about, but for his first start in MLS, so he looked clean on the ball and certainly throws it out now to Alex rolled On picks it up far side the right. There's a little bit of time and space as Austin FC drop off comes in square to the middle of the fields of Vargas, so new who. As you mentioned, Andrew Thomas good clean game last
week both in his distribution and safety his hands. Yeah, I mean it's always tough to get your first start, and to do it at LAFC is always difficult as well. But he did everything he could on the night those two goals. Nothing he can do now, it's about organization. You get the ball, how can we release players? And he did that just there, well down the line to Leo Chu. Chase by Gallagher, cuts by Gallagher steps into side the box, but it's right that just over the top,
almost find that top corner. It was good quite by Leo Chu cut in on his right foot trying to find it with his right front the far side, just over Goalkick Austin FC remains no nil. Two plays before that knew who picked up the ball and decided to go back inside. Leo chw threw up his hands and I was gonna ask when the last time Leo Chu touched the ball tonight? But he does it well. There a little interchange one two cuts inside and that's a fantastic hit. It just clips the top
and then out on the far side. The sound is come to pick it up. Ball goes to the far post, bounces just all on that end line, knocks out by John Gallier, quick throw by Leo Chu. Sounders have it five yards from the corner flag this near side the left Leo chwo little stepover comes into pedro de la Vega just clips it over the top to Vargas jump, Tartensio strike, good block my Cascante. There's gonna be a
corner cake for the sound as their third of the game. Well, it's a good spell for the Sounder's a good three minutes, couple chances on goal, good interchange and Chew gets that ball, throws it in quick and that's that little cheekiness we haven't seen from a Sounder in a long time. Is that little flickball in behind and the only thing the defender can do is jump moving backwards and try to get your head on it. It falls kindly to Atensio and just get a nick of it, because I think that ball finds
the back of the net. Dalla Vega outswinger Colne King's right foot towards the front post, flicks on by Rico and he topped the box. He's new again, come out thirty yards this time not so successful with his right foot high and wide. Go kick. Austin remains nil nil. I'd like to have that one back. But talking about Andrew Thomas and what he did at LAFC, there was one play in the first half La C breaks free Thomas has to come off his line against Muwanga, the deadliest striker in MLS last
year, and what does he do. He gets down low, gets a little touch on the ball just enough and pulls his arms back in as not commit the penalty. And that's veteran experience. This is the guy who had surgery, came back, went to New Mexico United, had a good season with them, had a good experience. Got that you have to have games underneath you, right, It's really difficult to just be a backup in this
league and then step into a game. So credit to Andrew for being a bit of a journeyman even while being a Sounder, going to New Mexico, getting his games and now he seems confident walking into the stadium. Well, Tom Doocher talked about his experience going out and alone. Certainly turn that season around for you Mexico as you mentioned, and certainly vote of confidence. Steph Cleveland on the bench tonight for Austin FC. He moved on as the Sounders
number two. And Andrew Thomas steps in and lo and behold, Stephan Fryk picks up an injury in practice and Andrew Thomas has to step in for these first two games of the season, Jackson Reagan plays the boards the middle well played by the sounder's building out a pressure ball down the line. It finds Alex Roldne and Fans on the right hand side, whips it across, tries to find it between goalkeeper and back forth for Jordan Morris bounces through to Brad
Stuver, easily collected by the Austin goalkeeper. To get here. In the twenty sixth minute, his brain lashes across lumin field. Sounder's nil Austin nil. Well. It goes back to stub as he launches it long pressure from Christian roll Don coming on our right hand side, headed out of bounds by knew who's gonna be a throwing for Austin just in front of Brian Schmitze. I think it's something the Sounders must have talked about. We know Stuber isn't
as good with his feet as other keepers. Every time the ball goes back to Brad Stuver, one sounder is pressuring, then you have to win the second ball. Now, who heads that one out? He'll want that one back. But that's something that Sounders obviously talked about because we don't see that too often. Most of the time it's Sounders sit back, we'll wait for them to play. But tonight it's been pressure, pressure, pressure right, make them make the mistake, win up the second balls and push forward.
Certainly feels with the changes that have happened, certainly by injury. And look, think about the players we're missing today, Ruzznak Frying, Nathan Reed, Baker Whitching, Yema Rodrie as JP, certainly a bevy of huge amount of talent, but it's youth. It's energy on the field, and certainly last week it showed just that energy around the field to put pressure in all areas
of the field. And well, I think the same tonight. I think last week the Sounders, you know, walking into video, I think they'd want to have that one back. We didn't play as well as we should have, and I think we've let that one slip a little bit, even though in the back of your mind, yeah, you're missing a couple of guys, but the Sounders know how to play and to put that result in and not get something out of that game. I think the Sounders are probably
disappointed. We're seeing them much better, much more organized side tonight, and especially from Atensio and oh bit just connecting their pass. Right. We talked about it. They don't have to make the game. Sch Met said that as well, we don't need them to make the game. If they want to push forward, yes, but then you must complete the pass. And that's what you need from two number six is is just slow things down, connect every pass. That's what you want from your six and they've done that
so far. Tonight, blow down the line Pratt, Shuba has to come out of his area just that the ball trickles into the eighteen yell of books, he picks it up. It's an interesting midfield dynamic with Austin three in the midfield where they play a one in two eight six and two eight Sounders almost have the reverse, Yeah, the complete opposite. It makes things a little bit difficult, but that's where Alex can push up in the inside.
And you're seeing it already. Look, he's almost in line with Jackson Reagan as he picks up that ball from a switch ball attempt from Austin and the Sounders off and running out. Here's de la Vega picks it up, driving forward as they saw him do last week, left corner of the box. The Leo Chwo won't be one versus Gallagher back on his right foot this time, he goes square, finds Alex roll Dun fast time to wait, cuts out his left foot, strikes a good block by Komenich as Pereira picks it
out of the air. Foul from behind by Alex roll Dun, but another chance for the Sounders. Good from day le Vega. Their patients get Lao to the ball. He's feeling confident now coming in on his right foot and it's actually a good slip ball in the penalty box. And then Christian, instead of shooting, turns plays Alex. He thought he'd hit it first time with his right but decides to pull on his left and just a little late to pull the trigger and then commits a foul. You there, but the
Sounder is starting to put some pressure. But the biggest question now is how does Jordan get involved in this game. He's got to decide, am I gonna just play in behind tonight or am I gonna go and check for the ball and play to feet and just get into the game. Have a couple of touches, right, because sometimes you starve and then you keep doing the same thing over and over again as a striker. But he's got to find the matchup that he wants. Is it gonna be Cosconte or is it gonna
be Hedges? Pick which one you want to battle with and isolate yourself, because then it makes predictable for every other player on the field. And you certainly think with Jordan Morris's power and pace in behind, if you get the better of those two players, journeyman in MLS certainly don't have the legs that Jordan Morris has to get in behind. And I've seen his ability to explode on the transition last week for the penalty. He saw it certainly in the
playoffs as well, he had that chance early on. It's LAFC couldn't put it away as he did in the first half last week as well. Sounders have it and the hands of Alex schol dan side the right. This copyright said audio casts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. Pucha Dalla Vega tries to go from center to left and Leo cho just evades. The left winger
goes out of bounds for nosin thrower. But this is the question. If I'm a left winger and the ball's on the right hand side, why am I not hugging the line here? Because then I allow at least thirty yards more space for Pedro to find me, and I negate everything out of bounds, but instead Leo two tucks inside and now you're running out of forty five degree angle out basically out of bounds to try and pick up that ball. I just I'm not sure if that's a design play there, if it's just
his tendencies to keep keep doing that. You played at number nine in college. I played an outside winger when I was twelve years old, and one thing I was told was hug that line. Put chalk on your boots and it makes the outside back have to think. The ball goes into Jordan Weis like over the top. He goes around Stuva just away from Coal, drops it off to Alex troll Don right hand side, ten yards from the end line. One by one, Misus Kolmenitch comes off the Austin left back for
another sounder's corner. Caick what they won't see as they're listening, and this is that ball from Pedro de la Vega from the top of the d inside the attacking half for the Sounders is a whipball vertical passing lanes through four or five Austin FC players. Is a great interchange and that touched from Jordan Morris
to go up and over hedges. If he's able any closer to hit that full time Let's goal of the year Dela Vega with a corner kick on the right hand side, flicked in again, hid it up in the air by Austin and Cascante flicked away by Rubio. This time is Ragoni one bi one versus new Who. And we're seeing this many times before. Little loose by knew Who on the clearance picked up by Austin middle of the fielded ring, good tracking back by Vargas, gets fouled by the follow through from the Austin
number eight. It's gonna be a free kick for the sound isn't there off the field but again Austin showing their ability to transition quickly, very much like LAFC last week. Yeah they could push, but knew Who does a great job of recovering there. And he's got to look over his left shoulder because if Alex isn't there. Rubio's in on net, but they do a good
job recovering, playing out of space. That number six is recovered and off the Sounders going attack now here his LEO two left hand side sounds his persistent and consistent pressure on the Austin goal towards the end line, flicks it up nothing given it's Alex rolled on inside the box, lays it off to Dela Vega top corner. It takes a right and a shot and blooked by Valencia.
Flicked up in the air by a Tensio, headed clear by Ring, It pops them to the air, bounces headed by Rubio to Obrianne and Austin gonna come again. In transition, tries to flick it Ring from right hand side to left, a dashing Ragoni easily picked off by Reagan and here come the Sounders again. Eight shots for the Sounders so far to an Austin FC where they haven't tested Andrew Thomas yet. Andrew had four says last week against
LAFC. Nothing so far in Tannoy's game. As Sounders now started to dictate tempo and pressure. Flick over the top by de la Vega, the outside of his foot it's kind of vision we've seen, oh two footy challenged by aubrienlot reckless, but your two stays on his feet, finds a tensio left channel. It comes back to the sounders number five knew who collects it right in front of the Austin bench, clipped from left to the far side.
The right just flicks away by coleman Itch as no troll Don came in behind, clears it off the sounders right back over the end line for a goalkick. Remains nil nil here in the thirty fourth minute. I think the biggest thing so far from what we've seen on set pieces is the consistency of delivery. Right now, there's no excuse from our center actually know where the ball is gonna be. It's dropped almost on the PK spot every single time. Now, if you know that the service is gonna be there, I know
where I need to make my run. I think in times past it's been a little bit inconsistent. Where's that ball gonna come from? Right? I think in years past we've had good You know, Nico early on was a great creek kick taker. Mauro Rozalez a great freak kick taker. Right, It was always consistent. That's how they racked up so many assists. So I think if they build into it right, you're gonna see more opportunities tonight.
And as long as that service stays consistent, Sounders have no excuse but to get the runs where they need to be, where we've seen some great players delivered the ball both here and the Sounds and across the league. If you know, as you mentioned, if you know where the ball's gonna go, you can make that consistent run. Sounders having now a tenser striding forward playing a little bit more advanced today compared to his more defensive role last week.
Because Leo Chu bounces around, strikes it across goal easily collected by Stuva and Austin, I'm gonna come again and just settle the game down as the Sounders with Jordan Morris just stems in front of the Austin goalkeeper. Events that quick distribution which we saw, of course last week with Hugo Lareas. Sounders
were caught out a couple of times in that transition last week. Bread Yeah, but it was the distribution from LAFC and the ability to find pockets and their front three are so much stronger, so they really can cheat and go forward and just launch that ball because there's so much faster than everyone else on the field. It's not that obviously not faster than new Who, but it's the ability on the ball to put new Who under pressure and as they break,
Sounders have to be careful. Varga's just grappling with Pereira middle of the field, a free kick given by the referee for Austin FC. But March is Women's History Month. Brad, You're out there getting the crowd into it as Ozzie and his family came up and waved that big green Sounder's flag to really kick off the season here at home to Ring plays if we sends it to right o Brian right corner, challenged by newho goes square top of the box, challenged by Dela Vega coming back to help out is back for as a Sounders hold the line. Top of the box comes this near side the right to Gallagher's gonna whip it in Adrea Thomas reads that well, collects it and this time looks
the quick distribution, but just slices off his right foot. It's gonna bounce slow and it's gonna be Christian Walden. That's you're gonna pick it up. Turn the ice, skims by stripe for top of the box. But as Gallagher comes across County, stays on the deck as there was a collision between he and Jordan on the transition. But brothers exactly what you mentioned. Bull bounced that it died and gave Christian Waldon a chance. That's the early distribution
that you want from your goalkeeper. Jordan takes off right. That's what you know you're going to get out of Jordan. But Andrew Thomas puts a little bit of backspin on it, Hedges thinks he's going to get to the ball, and then it just drops back to Christian Rodon and puts Jordan in. He gets a touch and I think they battle here a little bit and maybe it's a foot to head or kneade ahead. Jordan find himself in behind a
good recovery from Austin. I think after thirty eight minutes, Austin will be happy with where they're at in this game, and I think they'll go into halftime and Josh will say, look, we're in a good position here, but we need to really when they break forward, instead of rushing forward so fast, just keep the ball. Their main goal tonight is going to be
to disorganize the Sounders and like they just did is swinging that ball. But it doesn't happen unless you get forward and you maintain possession across the eighteen for Austin. But so far, so good for Austin FC picking up a result here. Yep, sound is nil, Austin FC nil. And this score day is presented by Toyota. I hope everyone listening at least goes to MLS oucer and watches the highlights from that one. Make sure you do it after this game tonight, because I haven't seen anything like that since the World Cup qualifier in Denver, many many, many years ago. I remember in Chapel playing in a NAA tournament. We had breakfast at
nine o'clock, the game was at one o'clock, no snow. By game time, the field was completely white. There was guys running up and down the field trying to clear the snow. And it's not something that people in North Carolina typically see, and we would kind of have to pile up these little teas with snow because it was so thick. It was that heavy wet snow. Yeah, watching the highlights, guys are slipping. It did not look like soccer. It looked like a bunch of guys getting together playing pickup
to be honest. But salt Lake credit to them getting the result right at home. The game actually started, the field was clear, and then all of a sudden, the snow just came, and you know, good result for the Sounders. But salt Lake off to a good start in this season. It's been a little quiet the last twenty minutes, so so tries to cross the ball and easily block tap by the sounders, and here come the sound is in transition. De la Vega down the left hand side, good ball with his left foot too new to Leo. Chu cuts inside, go square to pushing roll down. There's that field slowing the ball down. Sam's pick up a loose ball to Vargas to de la Vega left corner, flicks to his left foot, headed Claire
over the end line corner. Cack for the Sounders remains nil. Neil Bret Evans that almost went in the back of the Austin f S and that there the sounder is doing a good job with service night you didn't see it too often in Austin, but turning the ball around. But this is where Pedro del Vega is different than any player we've seen so far, is that ability to pick up the ball with pace and just dry. Every time he gets the ball, he goes forward and he ends up on the end of this
one, crossing the ball with his left foot. Austin he has to send it out for a corner kick, but I'm gonna get a look at the other side of the field. All comes in short, this time to Alex roldan right Corner's gonna flick it with his right foot headed lay by Hedges New Who's gonna pick it up again thirty yards from goal. This time instead of shooting it on target on goal, it goes all the way back to the sound as goalkeepers Osin f C press up their line hold a low block as
they try and see out these final minutes to get here. In the forty third minute sound as nil Austin FC nil. The score of date is presented by Providence Swedish I swrolled off far side the right back to to Ariaga. Comfortable night so far, got an early yellow card, but been controlled since
that moment. True tries to flick it around the corner. Suberies the danger comes out, collects it easily and Austin are gonna build again with Perera just flicks around Pedro de la Vaga. Nothing given by the referee, says the ball was given. I don't think it was, but the sounds will take it attent to your top of the box. Tries to slip it through to
de la Vega. Given away again in those crucial areas much of what was worked on in preseason for Brian Schmidtz when his staff was execution the final third sounders are any goals so far this season? Of course? Was it the dela Vega penalty kick? Don't really tested Stufa so far. In the Austin goal. Rubio plays at little one two with Obrian skips by Fargus. Look it went down too easily. Well, this is the one where you hear Schmett saying forward, forward, forward. In fact, it's a three versus
four defenders here. If the Sunders go forward and they turn it over, then they're in a bad position defensively and now product here we have to commit a foul. I know there's only you know, two minutes left, but at the end of the day, if you're gonna go forward, you gotta drop it in behind, and there's got to be specific instructions or you just go back and keep the ball. Well, don't forget Jackson felt Pete Hewing
will be back at half time to break all this down. Some of the things think about Sounders execution the final third could be a little bit sharper, a little bit better. The Pegada la Vega so far as look bright, getting a little spark in that number ten role. As Albert Rosnett continues to nurse himself back to full health. He was penciledon, of course, to be that number ten. Brian Schwetz has talked about Pegga de la Vega.
Don't pigeonhole him on that left hand side. Can play all along that attacking three. As the ball gets cleared by Alex Roldan, he's going to roll up to Brad Suver who comes way out of his goal, and Austin are gonna come again. Fans just try to get their team into it if the ball goes down the line easily collected by new but taking off his foot by Obrien top of the box twenty five yards from goal and give away by Austin.
That's the story of the game so far, brad Evans, just cheap giveaways in the wrong areas and just the inability to execute and challenge the goalkeepers. Yeah, well you can tell with Austin they look a little bit disjointed. O'll be on pick up that ball and he doesn't really know what anyone wants on the field. And so for Austin, it's gonna take, you know, a little something special for them at the end of the day. For the Sounders, I think they'll be you know, okay. With this
half, they got a couple of good half chances on goal. The service has been good, possession's been good. But at the end of the day at home, you want to send these fans home happy. I think you'll see a couple adjustments. What will that be. I think that ball has to be played, those crosses must be played on the ground and you have to turn around these Austin FC defenders because they don't like facing goal right and then corner kicks set pieces. Make sure that you match up with someone.
If you and I are going to match up, I want to bump and free you up. That's what I want to do. At the end of the day, set you free the extra amount stuff. A chance will be three minutes. You get a running club. Now that one of the changes the MLS have instituted for this season. Look on the big board, just stop at forty five anymore. It's going to roll all the way through to
forty eight plus. Sounders have it on the deck. Free kick foot ball at the foot of Aria with Discount Tire, get thirty percent short of average weight time when you buy a book online at disc high Attack discount tire dot com. It's de la Vega just right in front of Josh Wolf and the
Austin bench clips it around the corner, goes off. An Austin defender's going to be a throwing for the sound As with Nu who is the final few minutes sort of roll out and the Sounders fined an opening, just like LFC found that last minute opening last week when they were able to get on the scoreboard and change. Brian Schmidtz's half time team took the bull shift from center to far side the right. A little bit of pressure from Ragoni on Jackson
Reagan as Austin fcr trying to see this final minutes out. They have a low block, so he's sitting five in the back as the bull shift to Pegger Delaveag on his left hand side, Lord one B one versus Gallagher. Shots blocked. Rubio looks a lot slow and sluggish, tries to pull away from pressure, goes down to the grind. Nothing given by the referee. It's Leo Chwo stays on his feet. Sounders have it, We'll give and
go. Leo Choo is not able to control bullgoes out of bounds. It's gonna be a throwne for Austin. As they start to see that out the final minute. Bright Evans towards the end of this half, you've seen now two step up and almost be too up top with Jordan and Pedro's found his way all the way over to this line. Allah. I mean some guys will remember his fans Fabi an Espindola. He'll just sit out there and it causes habit because you don't know what you're supposed to do on the field.
Does a number six go does a right back go all the way out wide, but then you leave the space open and then everyone's man for man. I think you'll see that more in the second half. He can find some successor because he's right footed. Right if Leoe Chwo shows and it's a little right footed one too, you get him behind. I think it's something that the Sounders can can work on here in the second half and build into that the final seconds here of this first half. Very comfortable night so far for
Andrew Thomas. No shots to speaker. For Austin it looked dangerous at times on the break. Wouldn't be able to penetrate that Sounder's back line as the Pegadela Vegg gets bundled over. Eventually the whistle goes for a free kick. Josh Wolf just putting his arms in the air. Of course, we have replacement referees again today and we both agree so far, so good for the referee out there. Yeah, you wouldn't have told me any difference as long as I don't talk about you, I don't hear you, I don't see
you, I don't know your name. That's a good half. Well, there's the whistle for the referee is half times blown to mention no goals at the half, We'll take a short break, Jackson felt and Pete feuing. We'll be back to break it all down, but a halftime. Here at IQUC pitch a lumin field, it sound as nil austin nil. When two forces for good come together, united by a greater purpose, something amazing happens.

Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show forty five minutes in the
books. Here at Luminfield and the home opener, your Sounders and Austin FC tight at zero right now and what it can only be described as a storm here at Lumenfield. It is cold, it is windy. Just a moment ago we were looking at some sideways rain. The rain is still falling steadily. The crowd so much of it has gotten undercover here for the halftime and we are here in the broadcast booth and it is cold in here as well. But that is what you get here in early March in the home opener
here for the Seattle Sounders zero zero against Austin. Well, let's talk Pete about this opening half the zero zero game, where really Austin had a couple moments, but Sounders had the ball for much of this half. They had Austin deep in their own end. We just couldn't find a goal. No, and that's a bit worrisome. I know Josh Wolf, the Austin head coach, would be thrilled to be one zero zero right now. For sure,
Brian Schpeenzer will be a little bit the opposite of that. They've Seattle has had chances, haven't had a great first touch on a couple of them where they could have given themselves a good first touch and smash it in the back of the net. Instead a little bit off on the touch, then another touch and then the Austin defense its slid over. So you know on Austin is packing the box. It's really been probably forty of the minutes have
been in the Austin half, so I don't think you know. I'll tell you what Pedro de la Vega is as advertised, Yes, very good free kicks. I'll uh Ladero from two or three years ago where he would whip them in up and then back down. So we've had a couple of good chances. Good header from Josh Atensio just a little bit high on one of the corner kicks. Roll Don has been good. I'd say Alex on the right hand side, Christian's tucked in a little bit and so it's allowed Alex
to get down the wing. He's had a couple of good crosses and he's had two opportunities to shoot. Chew on the left has been good. So the wing play has been productive. But they got to get one and Jordan Morris had a really good you saw his strength, old school you know, go in on a tackle and nick the ball away and split the defenders. But they recovered quick enough. So we've had chances, but man, we
got to get goals, right. That's that's been We don't want to replicate last season, where we've had more of the play good opportunities but not quite put them away. But Pedro's been a lot of fun to watch, and he's also I like that he's it's not the same every single time. So he will go and take people on or he will play a quick one he's unpredictable. That's good one. He's a workhorse too, He's running everything, he's recycling runs. You can see the creativity and the movement of Pedro de
la Vega is what this team didn't have last year. So hopefully they can capitalize that on that and score here in the second half. Well, I'll tell you you can build your own match schedule with a twenty twenty four pick them plan. Here's how it works. You choose three or more matches that fit your schedule. It includes Cody Baker, Jacob Castro, Danny Leva, Danny Mazowski, John Bell, Paul Rothrock, Dylan Tevez, who well mention has been great in training this week, and also roll Ruy Diaz. He is back. He had a slight knock that he is now over and he is on the bench and available for head coach Brian Schminster tonight. So pete zero
zero game right now. We've talked about how we're liking what we're seeing from the Sounders offensively, but we just need to see that goal. What are your keys to the second half? Well, more of the same for sure. They've just got to finish their chance as a better first touch in close to goal situations so that they can get the shot off. Austin clearly would
be thrilled to go away with one point from this game. So at least the way they played in the first half, They've got some firepower on the bench and Ethan Finley and Josie zartists, so I can see Josh Wolf pulling those guys in, you know, in the seventieth minute. So the Sounders have to come out and get out of this second half early because They've got to put Austin away quickly or else Austin starts to get some confidence, get some momentum. The wings have been good, Pedro de la Vega has been
very good running at people. They've just got to find a goal. And then, you know, we talked about fouls before the game. They can't give up anything unnecessarily. Arioga had a silly foul about thirty five yards out. What did it do? It gave Austin one of their two chances where they put Thomas under some pressure in goals. So no silly fowls. They
got to capitalize a little bit of urgency. And they've got to catch Austin in the shift right so if they if they wait too long, they're shifting over defensively quickly, so they got to catch them go side to side. I'd love to see some diagonal balls from the two kids in the middle of the park. Atten coo oh BD. I'd love to see him switch the ball quickly. I haven't seen it yet, but that was something that that is something that we saw with Ozzie all the time. To see him tonight,
and it's something that we get from JP quite a bit. So change a point of attack, be effective with the flanks. Katla Shoo's been good. Keep getting them the ball well. More much to report about in the first half. No goals from either team. We're looking at Austin's there's lots of zero's on that right column. Spectac goals zero shot, zero
shots on target, of course zero for the Sounders. They didn't have ten shots on goal, but only one of those on target. Bret super reason to be quiet in the Austin goal. But Bret, you've been in many a locker room of Brian Schmetzer. What did he say to his team after that type of performance from the first half. Well, there's not much to be said. It's just the final product, is what he's gonna say. Defensively, good, like you said, they've kept Austin off the board in
every statistical category and now it's about just putting the ball. The guy's got to show some grit here. They got to fight for every ball because at the end of the day, if Austin's gonna sit back, it's gonna be that little bounce and that little extra effort that's gonna propel the Sounders to a victory. So keep pushing, keep getting forward. Alex has got to keep finding the Lao Chu. Stay wide, right. We just talked with Sean Henderson about that too. Just stay wide. You have so much space out
there. The last thing, if I'm a defender, I don't want to face Lao Chwo one on one. But if I come inside, then I got my eyes on you and I can watch the ball at the same time. Just stay wide. Make life difficult for this Austin FC. But like you said, Josh Wolfe will be happy even if that's all zero on the right category. If they get out of here nil nil, that's a win for them tonight. Rafael Santos, the man in the middle, puts the
whistle to his mouth as we get going here for this second half. Big forty five minutes for the Sounders, Big forty five minutes for Usin as well as they both teams come off two to one losses in the first game of the season. Sounders knock it down the line flicked forward by Christian rolled On.
Sounders just need to need a little bit more in that attacking third of the field, try and test stub in the we aresin goals, the ball goes down the light to Obrienne just gets away from the arestin right winger as della Vega was bright in that first half, certainly a shining light in his first MLS start for the Sounders. I think day le Vega can be happy, the fans can be happy with what they saw. Now it's the finished product, right, we know what he can do. He's gonna pick the
ball up on the left hand side and drive, push and press. Now can he free himself up for that shot from the top of the box. That finished product now, but continue with good service and build into it right now? And how many touches did Jordan have? Seven in the dale Vega. If I'm a ten, I have to know that. I have to know that my striker hasn't had enough touches on the balls. That's my first look as I entered the start of this second half. Andrew Thomas clears his
line. Is a little bit of pressure from Rubio who was the man who got slashed down by jav Ariaga in that first half. It was the only yellow car for the sound is in that first half, as the ball gets thrown into the chest of Rubio tries to flick it around the corner, finds Pereira so obriann Sounders do get it away from pressure with Alex Rahdon's near sight the right. Sounders in their anniversary kit green shirts with blue pin stripes,
blue shorts and blue socks. They're attacking the south end the goal to our right. The anniversary kit much lauded around the league, mentioned last week because on the GQ list of things to wear and buy, the Sounders try to tech that opening goal here. I actually think I like the blue socks better than the white white. It was interesting. I think there was a bit of a consternation with Mls because of course Sounders like Austin want to wear their
new jerseys and new kits. Both teams had white socks, so the the middle ground they found was sound as where blue socks. As Valenti comes slashes through, it was a centensio. Nope, there's Christian well done middle of field. It's gonna be an early yellow card for the ostent central midfield player. We had a great a great first half. I thought he kept positionally very good and he connected all of his passes. But he's a true number six. He's gonna bite. He's like Azie Alonzo. He'll crush you in
a tackle, but he's not the playmaker that anyone needs. Does ring's job to get forward, but he's gonna sit more. And it's that triangle that's making it really difficult for the sounders to pick up that spot. But what other strikers do really well is they find that pocket right. They don't have
to sit on the two center forwards. They can come drop in and if that's that triangle, all you want to do is find the middle of that triangle so you can break lanes and ultimately get forward and find yourself with some space. So Jordan, instead of sitting on the on the side, he's got to mix things up. Well. It's a whole kind of old school forward step in, spin around the corner, go long, come short.
Just really you play center back as well as I did. You know a ford that's constantly mobile, playing on your blind side, playing on your shoulder when you don't know what they're gonna do. That's the most difficult thing to plan for. And most of the time then you'll drop off and be conservative
giving him that space to step in and turn with the ball. Well, what you loved was playing against a big striker because that's their only thing that they have, right, Jordan's not He's a he's a big boy, but he's not that big prototypical Nate Jaquas style striker. Brian Ching. You know what you were gonna get out of those guys. As long as you won your aerial duels, off you went and you were in a good position.
But it's when you play the smaller guys that mix up their game and you're always turning shoulders, it makes it tough to Leavega tries to flick it around the corner. We've seen a couple of times in the first half he did that. This time it eludes Leo Chus slashing run inside the box, rolls across to Stuver in the Austin goal. So no changes for either teams as
they come out for the second half. Let's get you that eleven for the Sounders, Andrew Thomas and gold the back four, roll Don Reagan, Oriaga Knew who robed Vargas alongside Josh Attencio in the middle of the field. Roll Don de la Vega and Chew and then Jordan Morris up front, Alex Rin for Austin whin's the ball in the middle of the field. It's Coleman. It's just left hand side, drives forward, finds Rigoni hugging that touch line, comes back to Ragoni, but Josh at ten Tou is able to step
in and win the ball. Here come the Sounds in transition good Lott flick around the corner by Jordan Morris. He went again, arms up in the air, didn't get it back, but it's Leo Chu tucked in on that left hand side fights Jordan Morris. Flag stays down and it's Brad Stuver. The assaystant referees. Flag does go up, but that's better for the Sounders
running behind by Jordan Morris offside flag but good in transition. Something we didn't see in the first half is on the right hand side, Christian gets into trouble. Jordan's still centrally on the field. As a striker, you got to know. If Christian gets into trouble, Alex I have to beat that
outlet on the other side of the field. Alice gets in a good position near side here and Jordan checks back for the ball and it's that little flick and he'll be upset with that pass from Layo Chwo not seeing him early enough because it was on and Jordan just a couple of yards off side there and he'll reel that opportunity he wanted. That ball played a little bit quicker from
Leo Chwo. All bounces eventually cleared by Jackson Reagan. There's almost he wanted that ball back straight away, that give and go bulling the inside and then all that space down that right channel was wide open for him. But he shows that Jordan Morris wants that, which is probably something that Bryan Schmetzs reiterates. At half time, Joshtenzi tries to find the ball down the lines Valencia, who flicks it to Obrien center of the field. There's de la Vega
and if it's Obrien, but he does pick up the ball. This left hand side is rigon to the inirdline, clips it towards that far post. Easy for Andrew Thomas. One thing Sean Henderson mentioned a Prentice yesterday was Andrew Thomas's ability to throw the ball forward. But here come the sounds in transition far side the left Leo Chu cuts inside, just slows it down. De la Vega thirty yards from goals center the fields rolled on gets it from five
yards top of the box. Alex rolled on in support. Then she gets it back to Christian rolled on top of the box. Look given go with de la Vega. Good play by the Sounders. It's Entensio top of the box. Got time, strikes the board just wide. We've seen that before by Atensio against Saint Louis last year. This time it goes over the end line just the yard a so whide to Brad Stuver's goal. It's gonna be a goal kick. It's gonna remain Sounders nil. Austin Neil Brett Evans.
When it all comes from creativity. De la Vega a little interchange on top of the box. And when you do that, it's desperate defending at that point inside the box from us and all he can do get a little poke on it and Josh in the right spot where he should be, top of the d and he laces that one and that's not far off from hitting the back of the net. Brett Stuva launch the bull forward towards Rubio, flicks
it up. Let's get you that lineup for Austin Brett stuveran gol a back forth Gallagher, Cascante hedges Kolmenitch Alex Ring Valencia Pereira in the midfield, attacking three of Obrien Rubio and Ricgoni. As the ball goes over the top, Jordan Morris takes it off the ass of his foot. Gallagher comes away, two bodies comes off the knee of Jordan Morris. It's well played by Gallagher. It's gonna be a throwing for Austin FC. This's near side the left.
It's got eighteen yards from the corner flag. But that's the ball that Jordan's been looking for all day. De la Vega coming left to right and it's a switched ball just in behind and Jordan unlucky there with the right back coming all the way across to make that tackle. Well done by Austin FC. But Sounders now finding a little bit more space here as De la Vega and Jordan start to link up in the attack. Fifty five percent possession for
the Sounders so far in this game. Much better in the second half as it starts a Pepper Brett Stuber's goal. Eleven shots on the game so far, as you mentioned Austin FC, all that they've been going forward in transition. Haven't tested the Sounders goalkeeper Andrew Thomas. Yet little cushion headed by Alex rolled on back to Jackson Reagan towards the endline, put right back in a little bit of trouble. Was able to clip it down the line. Jordan
Morris just letting it go. It's going to roll across to hedges to Valencia middle of the field. Austin just trying to be conservative. Patient's mentioned the first half two to one loss against the Minnesota at home, breat lack loss. The performance by the Verdi and Black there was twenty twenty two and they had such a breakout year second in the Western Conference in their second year as
an MLS franchise, but it kind of fell backwards in twenty three. Is Pereira drives forward just inside the box and there's look clumsy from Jackson Reagan. Nothing given by the referee, see if r or it's gonna take a look. But the Sounders are gonna drive forward to Dela Vegas isn't able to control it as Fargus, it gets bundled over. Let's give me a throwing. It's the bench for Arsin. Just tell Kolmanitch to slow it down, don't throw it in, give the referee a chance to think about it, and
we want to replay here. It's no foul. He kicks the back of Jackson's leg and it's a well deserved yellow card for the staff on the bench for Austin FC. There's nothing there, no foul, but the Sounders careful there. They lose the ball up here and it's a quick one forward again. The last thing you want is isolation on Jackson. Reagan not the quickest of defenders, but does well to get a body in and keep his feet.
Sounders escaped that pressure. Sure who the yellow card is forth? It us for Davy r No or Terry Boss Boss being a former play was both on. Yeah, he'd probably give both a yellow card to be honest. Yeah, spent some time in the field of Davy I know as well, great guy, many years at Kansas City. It's an SGB yellow card when a foul is called SGB trial lawyers are here to help visit sgblaw dot com. Good crunching tackle by Alex Roldan Whistle had already gone. Valenci who went
through the Sounders right back. It's gonna be a thrown for the Sounders. Gets in quickly by Vargas, a little slopping in by Alex Roldan's clattered into was Perera on Vargas. Gonna be a free kick for the Sounders. Wait in front of Brian Schmitzer. Today's match is brought to you by Western Washington Toyota Dealers, Toyota. Let's go places. It's the Sounders. Get this thing going. Try to find that opening goal here home opener here at Luminfield
for the season. I'm trying to come back from a first game Laws against l EFC. Many changes, of course, many players missing, so we've mentioned. But let's give you that bench and see what Brian Schmidzer has available to him a little shorthanded today, Ral Rory Diaz, Paul Rothrock, Jonathan Bell, Danny Masovski, Jacob Castro As the goalkeeper, Cody Baker, Danny
Lava and Dylan tever So. Good amount of youth, good amount of energy, and then of course you got the experience of Ruy Diaz that can certainly make things happen and change things up. We talked about it halftime, Brad, I mean Schmtz does have some options. He's got players that can shift around positions and that three. He's certainly got players who can step into that number nine position. Even with so many players out, He's got got some
options to bring off the bench. I think you might look at a levera for Tensio or Obed, maybe for Obed as you start to push forward a little bit more, u Labor might be able to lock some unlock some things in the attacking half, as Arson might play for a tie in the game. But you also saw they're pushing with four up top when the Sounder center backs have the ball, so there's a mismatch somewhere. The sounder's got to find it. But I think you got to bring Raoul on at some point.
You know it's it's one goal from the PK spot, not too many chances created. Bring off to put de la Vega on the left and have a run at it and maybe play with two strikers and see what the Sounders can do and really play with for some service, because at the end of the day, if they're gonna sit back, they're gonna go at five in the back potentially right you're gonna need service. You're gonna have to stretch the field. So it feels like a game where Ruydiez can come on and make
something happen. The crowd just needs a little bit of excitement, something to get them off their feet. Concourses were packed getting out of this cold. It's like to see a little bit of movement on the sounder's bench. There's two yellow cars for ringing Kolemanich. It's an SGB yellow card when I found this cold, SGB trial lawyers are here to help visit sgblaw dot com.
Dela Vega has it this right channel, sixteen yards or so from the end line, just touching off this near touchline with this right foot squann out swing. It's a good delivery. Top of the six punched away by Stuva finds new who's gonna skip by and whip it in easily cleared by Gallagher, misses that front man. He's really gonna kind of evade that front man. Whip it between back line and goalkeeper. Ten shield flicksing towards the far post.
Stuba reads it easily comes out. There are solid ouncing so far from the Austin goalkeeper. Not what Steph Cleveland would want to see, Yes, he loves to see is a fellow compatriot play well. But I'm sure he wants a chance to play in them starting eleven. Yeah. Look, I think goalkeeper it's got to be the hardest position to break into, rather like a kicker, a kicker or a pitcher. You just have to bide your time, by your time, and sometimes chances come and sometimes they don't. That's
a life of a goalkeeper. They chose to be the one that's gonna, you know, use their hands and sit back there for the majority of the practice and majority of the games. And so for Steph sometimes it does take being a journeyman and find that right fit and get a little lucky someone getting injured and then you plug in and you know, Andrew Thomas has taken that chance. Stephen Fry is not injured all that often. But Cleveland did that for the Sounders for a number of games, a good ten ten to twelve
game stretch when Steph was out with that knee injury. So we know that he can play in the games. He's just got to find the right home, right. Nope, Long gone are the days of MLS having you know, not not the best second goalkeepers, right, they're all top keepers. Now it's got to be difficult life for those guys. YEP Twenty four games
in total for Steth Cleveland and the Sounders Jersey. As the Sound has come now fast side the left with Leo Chu rolls it towards the end line, clips in can buy new doesn't evade that front man headed clear by Cascanse runs over the fast sideline for a throwing for the Sound is your only job as an as an outside back or outside midfielder. If you're gonna make that run, it must clear the first defender, sorry from lafc in that first goal,
just it clip everyone gets turned around. The keeper then has to come all the way across and then that's when you get that snapheader down on the ground back to where the keeper was as his momentum as taking him to the opposite side. Delavega to the feet of Christian Roldan who Riggole's free to Leo Chu inside the box, just turns away from pressure from Cascanti, gets away towards the end line. Scant is able to recover bungles over Leo Chwo.
Nothing given by the referee. A little bit of pressure from Christian Roldan in the far corner. Nothing more for us inner than knock it out of bound. Sounders are gonna come again. Good sustained pressure by the Sounders in the second half, so nef C not able to get out of their blocks as they defend the line thirty yards from their goalkeeper holding the top of the box as that back for As the ball shifts from center with Alex Roldan to far
side the left, A knew who Christian Roldan hugging that touchline shifted? It's that left unside look given go with de la Vega who makes a nice little slashing run. All's gonna go over the end line, but like a corner kick, initially nothing given by the referee. Goalkick remains Sounders New Bill Austin nil here in the sixty second minute on ninety three point three KJR FM. Where have you listening to us in the car at home? Synced up on
Apple? Thanks for joining us. There's a raucous start to this game. As we introduced Ozzie Alonzo to the crowd. Bran Evans was up there geing up the crowd and pretty special night for Ozzie and his family. Adrian Hanauer certainly and Brian Schmittz have made a number of nice comments of course through the
week, both to the press and in the press conference. But a player who's had a wonderful career in MLFS and certainly an amazing story when you read about it, well, there isn't a bad thing you can say about Ozzie. If you're looking for a player that's going to play for the Badge and leave everything on the field every practice, every game. It's a stalwart, right, He's one of the greatest number six is to play in this league.
And nothing more can be said that he's a sounder, right, Yeah, you play in Minnesota, you play for Charleston, you play back in you know his with his national team in Cuba, and now he gets to finally retire as a sounder. Hats off to Asie Alonzo, best player I've played with, fortunate enough to get you know, one hundred and fifty games with him together. Change for Brian Schmittz. So you hear the crowd cheering
well for the player coming off and Pedro de la Vega. Brian said that it's a GPS thing with these players these days, it's not a minute, it's how far and how long have they ran to what intensity? Pegro dela Vega hit Mark comes off the field and now it's gonna be Ruydiez. It's going to slot into that false nine, that number ten role, very similar to what he played against l EFC. We'll see if it shakes up that same way. Sounders could do with a little bit of Ruydiez magic in these
final thirty minutes. That the opening goal about three points as they go on the road to Philadelphia Union next week. It's very difficult plays to play. As Brian Schmittz has said to us, Really three points is gonna be really important tonight. As it finds the feet of Rudy has one touch Bull down the line to Leo Chu across the box. Good look like a good tackle. Nothing give mother, referee. We'll see if they take a look. Well, Jordan Morris on that front post, take them the Sounders again.
Leo Chu Bull his feet wriggles clear. If Gallaghu tries to cushion the ball over, Leo chuw bundles into the back of the Austin right Back's gonna be a free kick. But another good chance for the sound Iss bred Evans. It's a good movement from Jackson Reagan finally stepping into the attack and taking out one of the Austin defenders a slip ball, and then it's a good interchange and finally Leo Chew getting a ball played in behind and it's a good slip
ball trying to find Jordan. It's actually a good tackle from from Hedges. If if Jordan doesn't complain, then it's probably a good tackle. Well, the Sounder is unfortunate there, but you could see them building into the game. What Raoul's gonna provide in that number ten is that you know he'll provide that creativity, not as much patent power, but it's that just that little bit extra that we talk about with top players as they when they have it,
they have it. And for him to get off the mark tonight, it's to make an interesting story between him and Jordan. Who's gonna put They gotta push each other and I know Jordan's seeing a player like that step on the field, you better be motivated. Put the ball in the back of the net now led by Jackson Reagan from Stuba's goal kick find itself to hedges
with us and know nothing more than knocking down the line to awaiting. Alex Roldan collects it with no real pressure right in front of the sounder's bench. Jordan Morris is available, Christian Roldan gets to try to find it in behind, blocked out by hedges cleared by Austin FC. It's just sustained pressure now
for the Sounders trying to find the opening goal. But I had a conversation with Paul Rothrock after practice a couple of days ago, and he mentioned that sometimes it's not about the amount of running you do, it's just the intelligence of that movement. Just a step here, step there, find himself a pocket of space, and Rudiez does that so well, Yeah, that's where every position Paul goes in drops to Leo two left foot is Ruidia just the
side netting. It look like he was gonna fall to the left foot of Leo two and in slash ruy Diez with his left foot. It's the side net thing, gonna be a goal kick for Ousin remains nil nil. Rudiez was always gonna take that one away from Leo Chu. It's his weaker foot, but it's a Good slipped in ball, Jordan just just en up in that turf again, gets caught up. Rudiaz slashes at it with his left foot. You know, in the box, you gotta take your chance.
He doesn't know that Leo Chow's there. Actually is a corner kick that they missed there. But at the same time, right every position is about playing smart. That's necessarily about playing as hard as you can. When I played center back, we talked about this. Chad ran way less than I did. We'd still get the same result in the game, but I would always go in and he's run two thousand less meters than I have. But it's about being in the right spot and at the right time and getting the job
done. And in fact, he probably had a goal or two in the game from set pieces as well. So it is about experience at the end of the day, and Raoul brings that in that position, even as a false nine or a number ten. Two new players for Austin make way and O Brian and Rubio made that first start for the new club. Channoight Umfield comes some experience, some goals. Zardas is gonna slide up for like for light for Rubery up front over one hundred goals in the regular season for Zadis
and then Ethan Finley. He's gonna slide on that right hand side, like for like as well. Leo Chus tries to wriggle free of Gallagher. Good defending again by the right back clears his lines. Doesn't get any further than new Who to attend you middle of the park. I'll sit holding that line top of the bucks. It's gonna be whipped in towards that front post. It's Caskense who just slides in front of Server, rolls over the end line. It's gonna be a corner kick for the sound. Who's remains Neil Neil
bred Evans. That's better from new Who right. He wants a near post runner. But at the end of the day, you're turning defenders around, they give up a corner kick. And I think this will be a game now that you're playing for set pieces and blade balls. Just like we said at halftime, because Austin is now sitting in such a low block, almost fifteen yards off of their own eighteen how many times have we seen teams come in here. It's sit in that low block and make like life difficul for
the sounders. Alex schroll Don could be enswing in his right foot and the sound his left hand side. Good delivery, good punch bite. Stuva finds a ten coo, slides a Ruie Diaz whips it across headed clear by hedges over the end line. For another sound is corner kick. The pressure is sustained. Can the sound is find that breakthrough. It's gotta be quick now and again a good spot you see Hawson. Every player behind the ball now
inside of the box playing for this tie. So three sounders on top of the box waiting for that break and unfortunate there it's another ball at the near posse that's not clearing that that first defender. It doesn't give the sounders a good opportunity. Seventh coner cake for the sound is this time on the sound is right. It's gonna be Alex Rolldon outswinger. This time top of the box finds Vagas strikes it wide. Goal kick remains nil nil. Here in
the sixty eighth minute, sound is knocking on the door. They just can't quite find that breakthrough. That's the one you want. On top of the box again it's cleared and Vargas just on the top of the d right side, takes a touch off his thigh, trying to hit it that little half volley where you hit it with your but it's on the outside of the boot right, so it comes back around and hits that far post. Doesn't catch it as cleanly as he's as he'd liked, but good pressure from the sounders
here super has it middle of a six yard box. This time goes short. He's Philly. Short goal kick sometimes get people in trouble. This time they come away with it. Alex ring is gonna slide it down that right inside to Ethan Filly for his first involvement, who just about clears it. But it's gonna be Zardist look challenge with fark Ascidis attention is gonna bring it
away. Sees that quick switch all the way across some sentence and left and he finds Leo Dreu skips by Gallagher professional foul, gets up on his feet, still got it along the six yard box on top of the box. It was Ruy Diaz and it was a tensio. They were available for the cutback. Leo two didn't see it. Surely it's gonna be a yellow card for Gallagher, who was a smart yellow. Leo chue man I should get up on his feet. He had a chance. Referee's gotta give you yellow
cut. Nothing given. Well, it's a fantastic ball from potensial to release the first time tonight. Really we've seen a ball from our own half that's been just play it in behind, let the guys run, and finally Layo chw stretches and how this isn't a yellow card after the play is beyond me. The referee's got to know even you let it play, and then when the ball goes out of bounds, you give them a yellow, just like with var ball goes out of bounds. Then you wait for the for the
talk from up top. Louis Sounders got good pressure there and Lao Chu had had Raoul in the exact spot where Raoul wants to be in top of the box, left side touch with the right foot. You know what he's gonna do. Every time he smash that ball far post. Lao doesn't see it. Sound is pushing and pressing. Just try to find that one solid opening. Can they find a little bit of magic or a little bit of combination play top of the box is now it rolledn just scrambles it out of bounds
this near sight. The sound is right, it's gonna be a throwing for Kolmanitch, the Austin back. As you mentioned quite a few scores around the league this match day already mentioned Messi and Suarez both having a brace winning five nil against our friend Ludero at Orlando. Will change for Austin FC as the Refuge just tries to get a handle on the game again. There's gonna be another change for Austin's Komenich, who's on a yellow card. He's gonna come
off the field to be replaced by Biro on the left hand side. He was the goal scorer in the ninety fifth minute consolation goal and it was his debut. He found himself in that back post. He was able to slot it in for his first goal. But his new club all go square for the Sounders. They have it with Ruy Diaz slips it into the or two inside the box. Can he Wriggle free plays it to the top to Christian ROLLDD tries to curl it block well by Rick Godi flick towards the farm post.
Jams just why there is a gold cake for Austin, but another chance for the Sounders of the best swung in ball the night comes from the right center back in Jackson. Reagan clears all the lines and puts Jordan in a fantastic position to rise up and get this one. Hits it first time Jordan checks gets on side, just gets a bump from I think Ring dropped all the way back to cover and doesn't get his head on that one where he wants to on site. Great ball from Jackson and this is what it's gonna
have to be. Twenty minutes left. Sounders got to push everything in the box, but more Lao Two's had a good second half today, actually more than what we've seen. Right, We've both often seen Lao kind of fade in the second half, but he seems hungry in this one. It's more resilient in the second half. Yes, it's more resilient. Got nudge down by Gallagher, got up on his feet and maybe in seasons pass suit to stay down. He was unable to find a sound As player in the books
as Austin come away. The good play out of pressure by Beerro finds in another substitute and Eat and Finley good tracking back by Vargas. Another solid performance by the young doer in the middle of the field for the Sounders, cleared by Oriaga. Another solid displayed by the Sounders number three alongside Jackson Reagan who's slotted in nicely after missing a little bit of pre season, looks right back at home. It's healthy double team by Atensio and New whipped in along the
box. Cleared by Oriaga. Sound is just absorbing a little bit of pressure Moss and now they have it bought in the foot of New. He's gonna go along with his left foot down the line. We Cascanti just heads it up in the air middle of the field, pulled down by Valencia. He beam turns away from a little pressure from Jordan Morris. Sound has continued to pepper the goal, but only one shot on target so far fifty total shots of the sound is just need to execute test a goal if with Bureau clips
into the far post, get it clear by Nube better this time. We saw that ball against LAFC caught us out towards the end of that first half Tillman, but this time the Sounds were able to deal with it. And it's Andrew Thomas who rolls it out to a Tensio is gonna stride forward. A bit of pressure him behind by Zades, no foul given by the referee. Eventually he does brings it back the initial pull just inside the sound is half of the field. I think overall the referee has been good tonight.
I just talked to one of the pro referees and this guy refed in Brazil, came to the US and is reffed in you know, some some fashion in US soccer. Thought he's been pretty good tonight and he said as well, right, we'll see what the second half brings. But overall impressed. Get the game under control, right, Austin's gonna slow the game down there could commit fouls in different areas and if you got to pull the yellow card, pull it right. Don't be afraid to get control of the game.
As Leo Chu just spriggles free of pressure. But it's Pereira who comes back, wins the ball, finds the foot of Valencia and ring the three and midfield for Austin and being solid tonight against the sound of three. Remember Rudiez coming on the field for Dela Vega to Leo Chu chucked in Now it's Rudiaz left corner of the box one v one versus Gallagher trying to find some space on that right foot, clips towards the back post to Alex hold down across
the face of gold. Bull bounces look back strike blocked by Austin and it's running to the back by Rudiaz. It's gonna be a foul on Ethan Finley and Austin are able to put the ball though deck and just slow the game down. But another good pressure from the sound is just contest steuverer in the gold but well done. Well done by the sounders breaking it's Rude Diz with the patience here to get in behind. It looked almost like a handball there.
The ball's headed down. I'm not sure they'll give it. Let's see here, header here and hits the hand of hedges not really involved in the play. I'm not sure they'll they'll give that one and look at it again. But at the end of the day, a good slipball, right, that's what the top players do. Rud Diz finds that little chipball to the back post to unlock something and Alex does a good job to hit that one across it looks like he's listening right now. Just takena listen. But I
don't think it's enough to warrant a penalty kick there. We've got the benefit of VR last week for the penalty. One thing we said before the game, wont thing about VR in this situation. It allows those referees just to take a minute as it continues to listen. Just hold spread suver. Oftentimes, when you when you think about pks being called in the box, it's slowing down the play or somehow blocking the ball away from it, or the
hands in an egregious place. Right that one, the ball just kind of gets the ball hits a hand, it's in a it's in a position that's not gonna warrant a penalty kick. That's not gonna really change the outcome of a play. Carrera foul on Christian roll Don but Gonny just standing in front
preventing the quick play. Sounders Get It Underway. Sound as f C SOKAT is presented by Providence, Swedish Official Healthcare Ponda of sound as f C. As the Tanzer strikes force remains nil nil here at lumin Field, mister hold on top of the box outside his foot finds Jordan Morris Leo Chu wide open the left hand side, just towards the end line, tries to riggle free of Gallagher, gets flicked towards the five post. Good saved by Struver.
Is aheaded by Atensio coming in on the blind side. Bench it clear by Austin, remains no nail. That's the one from Atensio. He'll want that one. But it's a great save from Brad Struver and a good ball from new Who. Right, that's the first one we've seen from new Who that's skipped the first, second, third defender and allows a Tensio to push forward, getting an advanced position, and with Austin sitting back like that, that's what it's gonna take. And one of our number six is has to get
up, push and getting behind. August clips it in towards the penalty spot, headed clear by Austin Rigoni. Sister referees flags up stup. It's gonna be an offside given for this copyright h Audio casts of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer. To get here. In the seventy eighth minute, Sanders are knocking on the door. Haven't opened it up, haven't found that opening goal.
The score update is presented by Toyota. So Brad, we look at the bench, we look at the ruy Diez coming on with de la Vega. Any more potential moves that you've been seeing for Brian schmidtz Alwa's gonna say, hey, we've got to week till next game. We've gotta find this three points. We gonna leave the players out there. You could bring on Musovski and go into a three five two and put him in Jordan up top and allow Raoul to sit underneath. I don't see too many game changers there
at this point. Maybe if if Alex is tired and and we talked about his minutes, bring on Dylan Tevez and put him wide out wide, wide out right to get some sort of service. So there's a couple options. But I think in games past we said, oh yeah, LAO two is gonna come out. But I think he's been he's been very good the second half. I don't think he's gonna he's gonna come off the field, So might have to switch formations versus just switching players in now yeah, yeah,
Austin continue to sit in a low block. One shot in the game so far Sounders having seventeen shots, but the most important stat of course, goals on the board remains nil nil. Alex Roldan, in his blonde hair, continues to hold a high position on that right hand side, gets to his foot right in front of Brian Schmitzer comes inside loose on that board to tense yep. It gets cleaned up eventually, but as oarsin Fco managed to wriggle free Sounders pick it up, clean it up, and they come again.
Christian Roaldon on the half turn plays down the line towards Alex Roldan. Pressure from hedges go square along the top of the box, eventually slash clear by Ethan Finley. Don't you Thomas gonna be a little careful as the board bounces deals with it well cushioned ball to Oriaga and the Sounders come again. But Sounders fans, if Sounders FC scores anytime after the eighty eighth minute during a
whole match, you'll have the chance to win. Freeing Lasik surgery from shot Vision Modern latesc and lens the ball strikes on goal headed clear by ar City was Leo joined the left hand side just holding up, so maybe have tweaked to knee or an ankle. Is he humbles away after that shot, it's gonna be a Tensio just strike ambitious, goes wide over the end line. Goal kick for Austin remains sound is nil Austin Neil brent Evans near hamstring there,
but good word from the sounders. Christian finding a good pocket slip and Lao chwo and he gets all of this one and he's unfortunate. Now brad Zuber makes a good save. It's on frame. That's what the sounder is need. But then Atensio from forty yards is trying his luck, and Schmetzer is screaming at him from the sidelines, saying, keep that ball. Austin's under under pressure there, Let's just keep peppering him. If you shoot from
forty yards it goes out. That puts him off the brake right, It lets him loose and they can just sit by some time, take three or four minutes. Here, all of a sudden, we'll find ourselves at the eighty second eighty third minute. Well, we were talking about subs who was gonna be that move. Well, this one looks to be enforced as Leo two continues to sit on the deck get some treatment by Chris Cornish. It looks like massofsky. Danny Mussovski, new signing for the Sounders in the offseason,
spend time at l efc RSL. He's getting stripped down. It's gonna come on, We'll see bred if it's gonna be a tactical and positional change. I mentioned they're gonna go two up front, or is Jordan Morris gonna slide onto that left hand side, put Missovski up top, and Row's gonna continue to play at number ten. Yeah, I think at this point you push Jordan out wide. Yes, he's playing as a number ten. When you're playing out wide, you sprint the entire game right as a number nine.
You got to pick and choose when you go. So I think Jordan hopefully can shade out left, put Missovski up top, and let Jordan have a go at the right back for usin FC and see if you can create a little bit of magic. As I mentioned many games happening around the league. Let's get you a couple of scores. Minnesota one Columbus one, Salt Lake LAFC nil. Big win for the men in Salt Lake, Miami five, Orlando nil. I was a Suarez Ladero matchup. Sarrez with two goals,
Messy with two goals. Vancouver won, Charlotte one up in Vancouver, Dallas losing at home two goals to one against Montreal. Kansas City one, Philadelphia one who the sound is played next week in Philadelphia, Chicago one, Cincinnati two. Saint Louis winning two nil at home against New York City. Houston losing at home after a really good season last year, two goals to
one against the Red Bulls. Colorado won Nashville one is currently ELI Galaxy three, San Jose one in San Jose, San Jose losing last week La tying with the visiting Messi in La pauland currently two to two against DC Sounders Nail Austin nil. Here at EQUC Pitch at lumin Field, you see a few booze from the crowd. Is Gallagher just slowed to get to his feet on that far side the right just slowing the game down as they start to kill
a few valuable seconds on the clock. Get here in the eighty third minute. That's where it becomes really difficult for the Sounders. You're having to balance being patient and keeping the ball, making sure there's no counter attacks. The last thing you want to do is come out of here down a goal right and lose this game one nothing at home. So yes, you have to push, but you also have to be very careful and good with the ball. So it can't just be willing nearly going forward. It's got to be
concise well. Giving away by Christian Roldan as intention goes through the decks, Perrero comes away that strikes forward into Sounder's territory, drives towards the top of the box, rolled it to Ragoni this near side the left ten yards from the end light comes back to Biro, the goalscorer in the home opener last week. You signing for Austin FC in the offseason. Headed clear by new from the switcher, play by arsin Ethan Finn. The loosen out to the
Sounders left back. Some pressure goes down to their freak kick given by the referee. As the Sounders try and get this thing going quickly, Tensio center the field to Jackson Origan. One touch ball down the line to Alex rohld On, no real option in the middle, flicks it around the corner. Good touch by Vargas as he continues his run forward. Jordan Morris playing on
that left hand side, as we mentioned, Masoski through the middle. Sounders looking for this opening goal get the first win of the season here at home, packed house, the QC Pitch, lumin Field. The ninety three point three KGRFM Sounders signed this campaign as favorites for the Western Conference title. It looks like there's been a challenge last year scoring goals forty one goals in the year last year, he needs to be somewhat of a challenge in these early
stages of the new season. Christian Moldon has it, driving forward towards the end line, cuts it back to his brother. Alex whips it towards the far post, high and long, nothing available as Ethan Finley picks it up and clips it down the line. Sounders come again, Austin FC holding their line strong top of the boxes. Sounders have it thirty five yards from gold.
Vargas shifts it from middle so there's near sight the right. Alex rolled on Lord run by Christian Moldan towards the end line, snutched over the ball by Alex ring Bull's not gonna go out of bounds. Bureau has it. Pressure from the roll down Brothers double team in the corner clears his lines. Flick by Ragoni down the line, pushing the back by Reagan. Referee was waiting for the advantage. Nothing given. Free kick run from the Sounder's bench
from Story of the Night tonight is service service from white areas. Can you be effective and just put the ball in the right spot. It doesn't matter if the center backs are six five and I'm five to six. If the service is on, it gives everyone a chance. It either turns around defenders or the defenders have to get up and clear ball to the top of the box. But it hasn't even done that. It's either been hit too far or it's always gone to the first man save for one or two efforts tonight.
So this week I'm assuming we get out wide positions. Let's work on our service. Let's work on our service right. Everything else for the Sounder tonight has been good, possession wise, right, creating a couple half chances. Corner kick service was good. Now it's just that final product that the boys are missing well nineteen shots in the game so far fifty eight percent possession and as mentioned, this is again easier next week as they go into Philadelphia.
As you mention, your Sounders hit the road to take on Philadelphia Union on Saturday, March ninth at four thirty pm. Watch via the MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app or listen on nine to fifty KGr AM and LRA thirteen sixty am. The Providence, Swedish premat show starts at four pm. Get here in the eighty sixth minute, it's gonna be a free kick
for Austin FC Sounders holding their line top of the box. Freed kick just about thirty yards from the end line in the left channel, right just in front of Josh Wolf as he tries to organize his Verde in Black group ticked out in their Armadillo new home kit all cream as the Sounders that defend what will it never to be beat? One of the few forays into the Sounders box in this second half. Wilson only have one shot on goal so far. Sounds have to defend RAGONI with his left foot. It's gonna whip it
in good delivery, flicks over to the far side. It's gonna be Alex Roldan's gonna drive forward, just gets a little bit of pressure, tries to flick it around the corner, collected by Cascante and here come Arsin again inside Sounders territory in the middle of the field with Pereira rolls it out to its near side the left to Ragoni. No real pressure on the Austin number seven rolls it too Alex ring finish player real being forced for the team in cream
as the pull bounced around the box. Eventually cleared by the Sounders. It's Austin's turn to have a little bit of sustained pressure. They pick it up in front of Josh Wart from the left hand side. Ragoni cuts in on his weaker right foot, clips towards the far post. We'll played by Andrew Thomas. Rolls it out to new as he's got some space to drive forward as Ethan Finley runs back does his defensive duties as Sounders build with the tensium
Noriaga and Austin. We have played a decent away game. They've not done too much in the offensive half of the field, but so far they've defended Brett Steuba's goal. Okay, there's been sustained pressure at times, but Super really has not to make too many safes. So how many times have we seen teams come in here and sit in that low block and the Sounders struggle. It's kind of been the theme last year. Tight defensively right, anytime a team comes in here, they sit back. But what a luxury to
bring on Ardez. I'm bringing on Ethan Finley with thirty minutes left. Right, you come to a place where you think you want to start with that veteran presence, but all of a sudden, Josh switches it up and keeps these two on the bench, and they're coming off the bench, and you know they kind of close out in this game, right, Zardez has his shoe popped off. He takes two and a half minutes to get his shoeback on. Little tiny things that you don't see on the score sheet. But
I think Josh will be happy with this performance. I thought the two center backs and Valencia were very good tonight and mid life difficult for the Sounders all
evening. Our guest Driving Ford gets pulled down your free kick for the Sounders yellow card and listen SGB yellow card when the foul is called, SGB trial lawyers are here to help visit sgblaw dot com yellow card on the head coach's son Owen Wolf sign in September of twenty twenty one, played for the US men's youth national team that we'll cup down in South America with obd Vargas.
The Sounders have it now, so Austin just try to hold on these final minutes as we get here towards the ninetieth minute remains Neil nil here at EQC Pitch, lumin Fields Sounders attacking the south end. We've seen it so many times where that sustained pressure eventually works. The bull goes in from new at the end line and it's going to be collected easily by Stuvo who forced to
the ground to waste and burn off a few more valuable seconds. With the new rule, we'll be able to see how much time is actually on the clock. I actually liked that rule, and everyone clock for the fans and everyone to get behind right because oftentimes we're left in the dark and we don't know when a minute is two minutes, three minutes, But hopefully the crowd gets behind it. But I think the Sounders will have to ask, right when a guy's gonna get healthy. And I hope Pendro is okay. And
it wasn't just a you know, it looked like a hamstring. He kind of signaled for a substitution. There. Worst case scenario in Alex shrink for the Sounders, and I think it's it's a case of the Sounders being desperate at some point putting the ball in the back of the net. I mean
a couple half chances tonight, but nothing really testing this Austin team. We're still missing JP, right, you're missing the starting center back in Gamar, missing the key guy still to this lineup, Rusnak that can unlock defenses. So we're not gonna see the best of the Sounders for the first three,
four or five six weeks of the season. So to pick up a result at Holton I would have been massive, right, the voice confidence going into a really difficult place in Philly. Who's already flying this year just like they
were last year. Well, Weed Baker waiting a little left un signed, did so well last year, just changing up the point of attack, being a bit more offensive minded than new who does that mount but his left foot tries to switch the point of attack headed clear by Hedges had a solid performance alongside Catskene Lacentia of the Austins back four. Stenzio has this side the right overlapping run by Alex Roldin's gonna towards that far post stripe by Ruides off the
crossber. That was the magic for the Sounders. It was a good ball by Atensio found the right foot a Rui Das he clattered the shot off the crossbar. There's gonna be a free kick for Austin just outside that box. There's one player you want on the back post hitting a full volley. It's Ruy Diaz and that's why he's at number ten. Yes, but he fades all the way wide left because he knows the service is gonna come in.
Is he gonna win a header? Most likely not. So I'm gonna fade to the back posts and see if i can get on the end of one. But that's what happens with good service. Right again, the two best crosses tonight from Jackson, Reagan and Utensio for this team. And when the ball's putting in a good place, like I said, it does not matter if you're the tallest guy on the field. Just get in the right spot. The ball will be there and you'll get a I mean a smashing effort
that crushes the crossbar there. It wasn't with the laces, it was the inside of the foot just kind of guided it. Pas Stuve came off the underside of the crossbar, bounced away as Massausi going to chase down the balls, It's rolled back to Stubo, who launches it long. Ariaga no pressure on the balls, able to bring it down, plays it into the feet of Rudy as he just turns away from pressure. Ball over the top almost
finds the run of Mussovski. Stuba read the danger well, came out, slid click to the ball to get here in the ninety third minute of six added minutes. As Brad mentioned that rolling clock in the stadium, new for this season, allows all of us to see how much times left, including those players sounders trying to find this first goal, the opening goal to try and get three points. Briant Schmtz, who talks about how important it was as a loose ball by Ariaga, Ring picked it up, drives forward to
ohen Wolf back to Ring top of the box. As regarding with his left foot, strikes it wide goalkick Sounders remains no nilk Yeah, I think with the Sounders being careful, their guys are tired, a little bit lazy and lax. A Ry plays a square ball across the middle of the field the last place as a defender, you're supposed to play that ball across Austin's playing so compact. Everything is wide open on the wings. Just use the wingers
play what is open right now. Play the option that's in front of your center back. Doesn't need to make the game at this point. Let the other guys create you. Let the ball do the world. Just move the ball with speed, go slow it down. This new drives forward galaghers solid on that right back position. It's gonna be a Sounders throw eighteen yards from the corner flag the fast side the Sounders left as they try and get that all important goal, which will play at this point of the game, would
certainly be a winner. In front of the south end as they rave, their flat ball comes in playing stripe by Ruie Dies get fleked it over the top corner cake for the Sounders. That's the only one A good service from new who finally it makes a defender. That's the only thing they can do is play the ball to the top of the box. Rudiaz in a great position, catches all that one with his laces might not have been going in the back of the mad but Usin jumps out and front and makes a fantastic
block from hedges, doing everything that he can. It comes Alex rolled on, I'm up in, swinging corner kick with his right foot, comes in headed clear by Cascante. Ridiez brings it down. Just try to flick it around from Grigoni. Pulled away by Pereira, nothing more than just give the ball away. Rolls it down to Jordan Morris. It's near side the right. It's got a chance to roll it down the line. He doesn't and
it's picked up and defend it well by Biro. Just flicks it through the legs of Vargas, clips with his right foot down the line and Zadis is able to pick it up in front the Sounder's bench. Triple team by the Sounders. Eventually they win. It comes off the shin of Zarda is gonna be a thrown for josh Atensio and the hands of Alex rolled on his Valencia, goes down top of the box. A little bit of gamesmanship here, just burn off some valuable seconds and get here in the ninety fifth minute.
Now one minute to go here at EQC. Pitch a luminfield, but don't leave us. At the end of the game, Jackson felt, Pete Fewing will be back to break it all down. Remember next week, all important third game for the Sounders of this season. It's gonna be away at Philly. We've consistently been one of the four runners in MLS over the years under
Jim Curtin. Sounders played there at four point thirty Pacific next week. But for now, the Sounders looking at this rolling clock as it ticks down to ninety six, to get close to that six minutes of extra time is the Referre're gonna add just a few more seconds on Valencia hobbles around, just trying to burn off. It's gonna be another SGB yellow card for Cascanty this time. Founders called SGB trial lawyers are here to help visit sgblaw dot com to
get here in the fire seconds of the game. Is this gonna be the final chance for the Sounders? Ball in the hand of Alex Roldan. Coch short to Oriaga, You're gonna flick into the farst side he does. It's kiff and away just reek by the sound as Brian Schmitza. Just frustration, you can tell by Brian as Austin now in transition. Are they gonna find a way to break the deadlock here? But the Sounders come away. The ruy Ds try to drive forward. Blentier steps and wins the ball in the
middle of the field. Well shifts it to this near side the left with Ragoni right in front of the Austin bench one b one versus Alex Roldan twist, turns into the box, drives it towards the near post, collected by Andrew Thomas. Quick distribution by Thomas to the far side the left to Christian roll Don got time and space driving forward atensio overlapping run towards the top of the box, plays it towards a tenth towards the end line, clips it
that back post bounces once strike by Bargas over the end line. Corner kick for the Sounders. Well well done by Valencia tonight. He's been so good and he stops that playing from ruy Diez coming forward, but then all of a sudden, instead of taking the ball into the corner with thirty seconds left, the Sounders end up with a corner kick on the opposite end. Ninth
corner kick for the sound is this near side the right. It's gonna be an outswinger with Alex Roldan's right foot and it comes flinked top of the box. Atensio strikes the ball well blocked, pulled back by Atensio. Professional foul buy The sound is number eight and is that pretty much gonna do it? As we see the clock tick towards ninety eight minutes, to be a yellow card on Josh Atensio. Maybe another yellow card for a little bit dissent to
the Matt Hedges. Tensio finds himself on the top of the box once again, and just like we said before, as soon as you take a couple shots from the top of the box, then everyone closes in on you. He didn't realize that he had Ri Diaz slipped in on his left hand side, on his favored right foot. I'm sure he's gonna hit that first time. Unfortunately, then you cause a counter attack and you gotta rip him down at that point, it's a yellow card for Atensio. The other good performance
by Josh Atensio spoke to him last week. He said what his goal was for this season. Just stay healthy, stay on the field, be available for selection. It's a whist the goal right, Just be healthy, make life difficult for the coaching staff. Well, there's a referees whistle, a few booze ringing around the stadium. Sounders did everything they could to break the
deadlock, but unfortunately they couldn't. Twenty three shots on goal on twenty three shots, three of those being on goal, but they couldn't break the deadlock here at Lubinfield, Agates Austin. I think you said it. Twenty three shots and only three on goal. How many quarter kicks tons? Right, At the end of the day, it's about getting on the end of things and putting it on frame and at least making the cap make a say. But tonight the Sounders left a lot on this field and leave the fans going
home unhappy. But for us in FC, they got the result they wanted to see. How they walked off the field there at the end, they'll be stoked on that one. So I think for the Sounders operation get healthy, and you got to have a real game plan going into Philadelphia next week. Well offense was their execution was not. But it's going to be a clean sheet for Andrew Thomas, his first clean sheet for his young MLS career. So well done to Andrew. Well thanks for everybody involved in today's broadcast.
Terry Ryan on the board, Keeley Dunning here in the booth, Kevin Ka and of course the Sounders legend Bret Evans. And for one final time, we do want to say congratulations to Ozzie Alonso sound a one day contract to retire as a Sounder tonight and we're so proud that he's part of now the alumni group of this great club. FC Postmatch Show. Sounders FC Sucker is brought to you by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC postmat Show starts now. It's final from Woomin Field in the home opener of the twenty twenty four season. Your Seattle Sounders zero, Austin FC zero, Jackson Felt's Pee viewing here for the postmatch show, Pete, I think there's no big, long run up, no big, you know, long thing to open our postmatch
show with. So just say it like this. Some things changed and some things stay the same. And boy, this game sure looked a lot like a lot of games last season. Yeah, that's the unfortunate part, the one thing. And I heard Brad and Danny Jackson talking about it. You know, you got to get healthy, right and I and but we we had chances. Twenty three shots is good, but boy, oh boy, we got to put one away. Stuber and Goald was good for them,
and we were a little unlucky. The one off the crossbar for Ruy Diaz, the deflection that went over the crossbar, uh At Tensio shot early in the second half was good. It was off by less than a foot for sure. So but you got to earn your luck. That is it's that is a consistent thing we hear in our game is you got to earn your luck. And I believe it too. So we were just, uh, we were unlucky. We did maybe we didn't earn the luck that we needed
tonight. You know, it is great that Andrew Thomas got the shutout. He didn't have a lot of work to do until Finley AND's artists subbed in late in the game, and then he was under some pressure and he did well with it. But yeah, that that's uh, it's tough. And and there was one play where Alex Woldon had to throw in, threw it to Oriaga and he took it on his left foot and then played a ball. I think what we had everybody in the box take a touch with the
right foot and then whip it in. So we missed out on some on some chance there was he just sent it to the corner flag. Yeah, and so yeah, and that's just this is MLS. You can't do that. And so I think that our locker room is gonna be really quiet. There's gonna be some serious frustration. Ruy Diaz I thought was sharp and it was a bright spot when he came on. That's important. That's important for him, that's important for the team. Jordan moorese had some good fight for
I liked that he went ninety minutes. So yeah, just it was it's tough. Let's hope that day le Vegas. You know, he came off because of injury in the sixtieth minute, Brian said he would play sixty minutes. Let's hope that that's nothing too serious. Let's hope that day le Vegas is not serious. It's also hoped that Leo Choose is not serious, as he came off in the eightieth minute for injury as well. So for both those guys, we'll get updates from Brian Schmitzer, whether it's after this game
or throughout the week on both those guys. And this is already a very very injurt team. But Pee, you mentioned the luck, you mentioned the role. I mean, we need a we need an Emerald Queen Casino play the Match. I mean, in the ninety second minute, a phenomenal ball from Josh at tense Raoul on the other side of the field from about what fifteen yards out and Raoul with a brilliant shot, went off the crossbar.
I mean, if that's anything, that play of the match is the Emerald que Casino Play the Match, presented by Emerald Quing Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. That was a phenomenal chance. But to continue the conversation on Raoul, I mean it did feel like Raoul added another gear to this game where I mean, I don't know how you fit him on earlier, but at the end of the day, you know, gosh, his quality and his intensity and what he brought to the game, sure would have been
nice to have him earlier than the sixty fourth. Well, you're bringing him back in and trying to get him going again. Ye, he was like de la Vega in that he was active, came back, got the ball, ran at people, got his shots off. There was one where Chew. He probably shouldn't have left it for Chew, but he was aggressive. And we know this about Raoul and that's why we have him here, is because he is always looking to get his shot, always looking to get a
goal. So we had one where Chu probably had better lined up, but Ruy Diaz got in front of him and took the shot. But I liked it. That was as much activity and much bounce in as step, as much as much sort of direct I gotta get a goal drive that I've seen in a while from Rowl, and I think he'll feel good about it. I think the coaching staff will feel good about it, Devine and the players
too. So yeah, well, it's a zero zero draw for your sounders against Austin here and it's not a win, but this season win the Sounders win. Slash Ride Dash with Dash us Well, Pete viewing and Jackson felt here for the postmatch show. And I'll tell you that tonight's Toyota Man of the Match is going to be Andrew Thomas with the clean sheet. Your local Toyota
dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the match. And Pete Andrew Thomas didn't have a lot of work to do today, but the small pieces of work he had not only him, but really the entire back four knew who Jackson, Hobby and Alex roldn and we talked about Alex role Donna having a good game, but I really the defending to get the clean sheet, Keith Austin out of the back of the net. I thought, defensively, it was a solid game with the work that they ended up having to do,
which wasn't much, but it was solid. Yeah, that's well said. They didn't have a lot of work to do, but when they did they rose to the occasion. Andrew Thomas came out twice in the first half on crosses in traffic. It was good, that's important. He was decisive with it, strong for sure. So but I'll tell you what, when when Finley subbed in and when Sartist subbed in, that's a lot of goals. That's one hundred plus goals and MLS one hundred and twenty between those two guys,
and they they caused some problems. And I think we even said at halftime that Josh Wolf would probably do that bring both those guys on the last twenty minutes, so they had to wather that they had to ramp back up because all of a sudden, now the way that the game was being played, they had to adjust and they did a good job. So yeah, good coverage all the way around, and good for Andrew Thomas getting first his first shutout in Major League Soccer. And we'll see if Stephen Fry becomes available
for next week against Philadelphia. In terms of that next match against Philadelphia, we'll take one more break and we'll come back in the postmatch show and wrap up the show by talking about the Sounders next match and the week ahead for the club. That's next on the postmatch show following a zero zero draw against Austin More next on sports radio in ninety three point three KJRFM. Why I choose a Sleep Number smartbed? Well Tell to Air Lounge is part to donate one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season.
Three Foundations, one mile, one ball program. Let's take a look ahead at what's next for the Sounders. That's going to be a match next Saturday afternoon or because evening, early evening here in Seattle. Sounder is going to be at the Philadelphia Union SUPERU Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It's gonna be Saturday, March ninth. Now Pacific time. Kickoff is going to be at
four thirty. That means we will have a four o'clock Providence Swedish premat show and I believe that will be on Sports Radio at nine to fifty kjar am. You also listen in Spanish language on LA thirteen sixty. You can also watch the match by MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app. But again four o'clock Providence. We just prematch show over on nine to fifty AM for
Sounders and Philadelphia Union for that roadmatch. Now, Pete, when we kind of think about this game ahead, there's not too much we can say or kind of forecast because we don't know. I have to breathe before I do this. We don't know about Brodilio Rodriguez. We don't know about Reed Baker Whiting. We don't know about Stephen Fry. We don't know about Joe Apolo. We don't know about Albert Russknack, we don't know about Nathan We don't
know about Yamagomes Andrade. We don't know about Pedro di Levego, who came off in the sixty fourth minute, and we don't know about Leo Chi who came off in the eightieth minute. I think that's it. Well, what we do know is that they all have eleven, and we'll have eleven and our eleven half to beat there eleven. That's true. They are zero wins, two ties, they've scored three goals, they've given up three goals. So but this is a good team. I watched them play ten days ago
in the conk Caff game, and they were very, very good. Very dangerous, good goal scoring. Uh that's that's a club that's been on the cusp for a long time due to win an MLS Cup. Really, they've been they've been good and and they got caught. We have Colorado after that. I know Brian Spencer wanted to get the win today because they expect Philadelphia to be a tough place to go and play. So but yeah, we got to get these guys healthy and then we got to start finding some wins,
right, That's that's the nature of this business. You know. We had a lot of veterans. I'm watching Christian Roldan walk across the field with Matt Winter and he's gonna do an interview and we need him to get this. This is his team, right, there's nothing to yes and deservedly so and and uh, there's a lot of good talent on this squad, so I know they're going to be very frustrated. I bet the locker room is quiet, and got to go and take care of business at Philadelphia and and
find a way to get a win, go steal a win. Today was a great day for Ozzie and our club. Let's talk about Le's talk about that in the broadcast because you know Philadelphia will be tough. We'll preview that more on Sounders Weekly Wednesday, eight pm on ninety three point three KJRFM. So we'll talk more about Philadelphia then, but let's end the broadcast beat by by talking once again about Ozzie and the celebration today. And he spoke to the crowd and saying, I love you Seattle, this is my home.
Right at the end of halftime. Obviously, you know, the thirty thousand that were here just absolutely adore him. The lines going out the building for autographs for him earlier. Today Today was a wonderful celebration for Ozzie Well, and you know, he defected from Cuba with the national team in a grow in a I don't know if it's a grocery store or like a target or something like that, right and then and then made his way. What an
awesome story right to come here. And I remember when his father came to this it the team. It was just beautiful. And Ozzie is a great guy. I got to chat with him for a few minutes at halftime, and he's such a sincere guy. And I said, you're gonna coach and he goes and I said, you need to coach and because he'll bring such grit and fire to any team that he joins. But he is a class
act. He did a great job for the Seattle Sounders. You know, since two thousand and nine, the Sounders have more points than any other team in Major League Soccer. And that standard that was set was on Ozzie Alonzo's shoulders. So great guy, a great competitor, loved the team, love the loves the city, and it was really nice, heartwarming to see him come back. He's one of the special ones in the Seattle Sounders organization. And you know, if you're going top you know, fifty years, who
are the best players? He's deserved to be top ten, easy, easily. Yeah, I think I think he's in the He's in the conversation for sure, for grit and leadership and health and fighting through things. So I'm really proud of them, and I'm happy for him. And he look good and his kids are getting big. Yeah, holy cow, his children are not little ones running around anymore. So fifteen years in this league and before that he was in the USL, and yeah, good for Ozzie. Legend,
absolute legend. Ozzie Alonzo wonderful to celebrate him today as he retires a Seattle Sounder. And on that wonderful note, we will end tonight's broadcast once again.
