1-liners:

  • "The beauty is the decentralized nature of podcasting. I don't need a sponsor to go create a show, unlike I would need to for TV versus a podcast." - Arnab Deka
  • "Just be you. Be real. Be you. Because that's what people want." - Tiphany Kane
  • "YouTube is not a podcast. No RSS feed, no podcast." - Dave Jackson
  • "Every overnight success is not overnight." - Allison Melody

too long didn't listen (tldl;)

  • Podcasting is a flexible medium that allows creators to produce content while multitasking and without requiring significant infrastructure or sponsorship
  • True podcast success is rarely overnight, with many successful podcasters like Joe Rogan taking years to build their audience and platform
  • The decentralized nature of podcasting is both its greatest strength (low barrier to entry) and its biggest challenge (difficulty in establishing credibility)
  • Authenticity is crucial - podcasters should create content that genuinely reflects their personal style and voice rather than trying to imitate others
  • Audio quality and editing remain critical, with creators needing to prioritize the listening experience over visual presentation
  • The podcast industry encompasses a wide range

Podcast or vodcast. I tend to be a multitasker, so I want to walk and listen to audio. I want to drive and listen to audio. It's usually that I'm doing a physical activity that turns into an automaton activity. Same multitasker if I'm on my walk or I'm going to the gym or even a long drive. I started my podcast so that I could just work in my pj. So this video thing, what are we doing here, people?

You ruin it for me. Why do we as podcasters willingly subject ourselves to hours of editing, awkward ad reads, and the existential dread of shouting into the void? If you've ever asked yourself that, or if you're just here to revel in the weird, wonderful world of podcasting, then you're in the right place. Welcome to Sound Strategy with Lucas Dicke. Without a doubt, this is the most meta podcast about podcasts ever. Every overnight success is not overnight. Well, it's like Joe Rogan.

Everybody talks about Joe Rogan, and I'm like, please realize that Guy started in 1988, you know, and it took him, like, six years to get his first record deal. And then once he was there, then he was on not one, not two, but three different TV shows. If you want to do a podcast like Joe Rogan, step one is be Joe Rogan. And I'm like, how many people in the room are Joe Rogan? I thought step one was eat bugs. Isn't that how he started? We wanted to build this to be the sexiest

podcast charts thing out there, and I think that was my goal. Well, I also just like, the description of a product is sexy, and that might be enough just to get me bought in on the thing. Right on. All right, That's. That was my goal, is I want this to be just really. That's sexy. Just like, yeah, I want people to look at this and be like, oh, that's. That's hot. That's hot. The beauty is

the decentralized nature of podcasting. I don't need a sponsor to go create a show, unlike I would need to for TV versus a podcast. Anybody you have a passion, you want to talk about it, post the files on the Internet. That's also the problem with podcasting is the decentralized nature. And as a listener, like, if you want to know, should I trust this show? Where would you go to to find that information? Like most things, the biggest superpowers are also often the biggest

weaknesses. And in podcasting, that's very true. I love it. Arnab, that you just made our little intro snippet right there, Alison. He said on both sides. It's like it's a gift and a curse, you know, it's a responsibility and it's a superpower. I know. I was thinking, anyone can do it. Oh, God. Anyone can do it. Anyone can do it. Exactly. All right, I'm going to hit you with a rapid fire question. You ready for this? Rapid fire is my. My Achilles heel, but I will try. We'll edit it

so afterwards it looks like it's rapid fire. How about that? Excellent. Hey, stop giving me jobs here. Podcast hill you would die on. I try not to, because I'm never going to win it. But I'm sorry, YouTube is not a podcast. I am an old curmudgeon. No RSS feed, no podcast. And the reason I care, because I know the audience doesn't care. And it's when I'm standing at podcast movement and they're giving me stats and they're calling it a podcast, they go,

that's not really a podcast. And it's measured completely different, so it shouldn't be called a podcast. I'm like, so that's the one. On occasion, somebody will say something and I'll go, well, technically speaking, that's not a podcast. What's a podcast hill that you would die on Authenticity. Like, just don't try to do your podcast like anybody else. Do it in the way that is you. You know, are you a potty sailor mouth person? Let your. Let it fly. Are you? I like

things scripted and organized. Great. Go for it. Are you? I'm a fly by the seat of my pants. Whatever. I'm going to just turn on the mic and whatever comes out of my mouth comes out. Great. Go for it. There's space for all of that. And so just be you. Be real. Be you. Because that's what people want. What's a podcast hill you die on? You need

really good quality audio. I don't care what anybody says. You have to edit with the audio listener in mind as well as the video viewer, because there are so many people out there who are just editing for video and for the people who might watch it, and they're leaving a lot of things on there that don't need to be on there, and they're forgetting about their core listener on a podcast. So, like, that's one hill I will die on. You have to continue to value and edit for the listener as well.

In life or in podcasting. What is one thing you would automate forever. Laundry. Oh, my God, laundry. I hate laundry. The dishes. I love it. I'm sorry, was that supposed to be a work thing? If you're still here, you're probably really into podcasting or just avoiding editing your own podcast. But if this trailer made you laugh and maybe even question some of your own podcasting life choices, then you're officially one of us. Which means a podcast about podcasting just became your favorite

podcast. I say lean in. Subscribe now at SoundStrategy FM.
