Summary

The SCP Foundation investigates SCP-8670, a nine-note melody that, once heard, cannot be forgotten, driving subjects to feel it's constantly playing. During an interrogation with Dr. Birkmeyer, the researcher who discovered it through a sleep study, a much darker truth is uncovered. Birkmeyer reveals that sleep involves a daily "cloning" of consciousness, effectively killing the old self and replacing it with a new one each night, leaving loved ones unknowingly interacting with a constant stream of new copies. The implications of this existential horror are explored, including the idea that most people never truly wake up after their first night's sleep.
