Item number, SCP-3066. Object class, Keter. Special Containment Procedures. A circular perimeter within a 500 meter radius has been established around SCP-3066. Active surveillance of this perimeter must be comprehensive and continuous.

Security personnel assigned SCP-3066 must be ready to intercept trespassers at any time of day or night. Shift rotations are to be implemented accordingly. Class B amnestics may be applied to civilian witnesses of an Eckhart Anatole discharge. Products of an Eckhart Anatole discharge are to be destroyed as rapidly as possible. Flamethrowers and incendiary grenades are particularly effective and are to be stocked in a separate structure adjacent to SCP-3066 for deployment during an incident.

Management of the ensuing wildfires may be handled by Foundation operatives or local firefighters as appropriate. Instances of SCP-3066-C are to be terminated or kept in solitary confinement. Testing on SCP-3066-C is not to involve direct contact with more than five uninfected persons at a time. To prevent lapses of judgment and loss of productivity, entry into SCP-3066 is strongly discouraged. Entry into SCP-3066-A is strictly prohibited.

Cover stories and urban legends to discourage casual investigation of the site are to be disseminated to communities in the Brown Mountain, North Carolina area. These should include vehicle life. combustion of natural occurring methane, bald lightning, and extraterrestrial activity. Description. SCP-3066 is a small log cabin in Linville Gorge, North Carolina. The cabin is dilapidated and appears to have been abandoned in 1937.

It is one of the only artificial structures in the valley and is entirely isolated. Much of the roof has been destroyed, and the structure is surrounded by thick vegetation, heavily obscuring it even when viewed from a distance of 20 meters. Inside, subjective time is heavily warped. Timekeeping devices work as expected, but the space induces a trance-like state which inhibits memory formation and interferes with executive function. Furthermore, metabolic processes are slowed.

permitting subjects to spend days within SCP-3066 without consumption of food or water. SCP-3066 includes a cellar, which was airtight prior to Incident 3066-1. The area was originally used for storing wine and as a workplace for the cabin's most recent occupant. The cellar contains a writing desk from which hundreds of written pages and journals were recovered.

Nearby, an anomalous circular borehole with a diameter of 3.3 meters descends into the Earth. This borehole has been designated SCP-3066-A. In September of 1997, the O5 Council ordered Expedition Beta, a manned exploration of SCP-3066-A. MTF Zeta-9, the Mole Rats, was assigned to the task. Expedition Beta, audio log. Corporal... Call sign Beta 2. Linville Gorge, September 21st, 1997. Begin log.

Command, this is Beta Actual. We're through the perimeter and in sight of the anomaly, requesting permission to enter and proceed with exploration. Perimeter security delivered a set of mechanized climbing winches to the seller yesterday, but you'll have to install them yourself. The perimeter security confirms no unusual activity in the last seven days.

Alright team, we're not expecting hostiles, but this is an anomalous site, so stay focused and don't mess around. Let's do this. Stack up. Beta 2, you're on door duty. Beta 3 is on point. It's entering clear. Ready up? Beta two, ready. Beta three, ready. Beta four, ready. Go. Clear. Clear. Clear. Wow, nice place. Dusty though. It smells kind of like ash. Probably the wood stove. Nothing unusual so far. Beta 3, close the door. Sure thing, boss. You know...

This place is pretty beautiful when you stop and take a look at it. It really is. The fixer-upper, sure, but I wouldn't mind living in a place like this. Whoever built it had the right idea. Let's get down to the cellar. Man, we've got time. I could stay up here a bit longer. That would be great, but unless you want to reprimand for twiddling your thumbs, we've got work to do. This is a hostile environment, and it's already in your heads. Get your shit together. Hoo-ah! Hoo-ah! Hoo-ah!

I'll get to the hatch. Beta 3, you're on point. Ready. Go. Clear. Clear! Clear. Why would you put a desk in a cellar? Previous owner was a writer. Probably liked having the wine on hand. Plus, it's nice and cool down here. Three, watch out! Shit. T.L., you saved my ass for real. Everyone, please take the time to note the massive hole in the floor. You fucking jarhead. Sorry about that, guys. It's like my head... Wrapped in duct tape. Appropriate, since your skull is full of foam packing beads.

Let's set up the repelling gear. Yes, sir. Command, this is beta actual. Site is secure. Winches have been installed and we're ready to begin our exploration of 3066 Alpha. findings. Roger that, command. Alright, Beta-2 will remain on the surface to operate the winches and facilitate exfil. Damn it. Really? I mean, yes, sir. Beta 3 and 4, you're with me. Flashlights only. Save your Nod's battery in case we run into anything down there. Understood. Roger that.

It's pitch black down here. The, uh, effect of the anomaly seems to be lessening as we descend. Walls are smooth stone and perfectly circled. It looks like it was excavated by a machine. Hell of a thing to have under your house. In the wine cellar, no less. My breath's fogging up. Temperature is six degrees Celsius. We're about 50 meters in by now. Yep, I see something. Yeah, there's a big archway.

I'd say three meters tall, at least two meters wide. Also cleanly cut out of the stone. Command, we've discovered a doorway in the side of the hole. Should we explore it? Your objective is to find the bottom. Roger that. All right, team, we're going to keep going down until we find the bottom. Maybe we'll investigate this arch on the way back up. I've got a feeling that this is going to take a while. No shit. Keep moving.

It's getting a little cold. Fucking freezing, actually. Literally. It's about three degrees below zero. There's ice forming on the wall. No. Cold air falls. How do you not know that? Actually, Beta-2 is right. These dead- Thank you, Command. Let's focus, team. How much rope have we gone through, Beta 2? Command, we're almost at the end of our lines here. Gotham is nowhere in sight. Please advise.

I'm gonna pop a flare. Negative Beta-3. Don't drop things down the anomalous borehole, please. Fine. Can you get anything from your rangefinders? Stand by. Sometimes it thinks I'm looking at the sky, but there's some atmosphere. seeing sporadic readings between 5 and 20 kilometers, but I think that's just fog in the tunnel. We just don't have the rope for this command. There's no way. That's impossible. Really? You know who has a head full of foam?

Never mind that. We're getting out of here. Beta-2, bring us up gently, please. I think this is the last archway before we get out. Can you confirm, Beta 2? Uh, sure. You're at 50 meters. Alright, stop the winches. It's now or never. Command, do you want us to check out this archway? Command? Team, exercise extreme caution. Roger that. Let's stay attached to the lines. Beta-2, get ready to pull us out if anything weird happens.

Okay, we're in the archway. The floor is solid, but it's pitch black. And not in the way this hole is dark. It's eating the light and giving nothing back. I'm not sure if it's a Vantablack wall or some kind of singularity or man of- My lamp doesn't seem to be doing anything. Do we try to move forward? Negative beta team. If it is a single... Affirmative. Beta-4, bring out the drone. Roger that.

You getting camera feed command? Feed is grainy, but it's coming through. Proceed. Sending in the drone. Damn it. Lost the connection. Do you guys feel that? Yeah, the ground is shaking. This is a hell of a time for an earthquake. Get out of there. Get down! Jet! Hi guys, it's Daisy here with your ad break. All right, back to the show. What the hell is happening down there? Report. What's going on? Holy fucking shit! Everyone, check in.

I got cut up pretty bad. I'm gonna need some bandages. I got pushed off the ledge. I think my ribs are broken. Got some cuts and bruises too, but I'm okay. Safety line saved me. I'm fine. Just a little rattled. What the hell just happened? A swarm of flying insects or something blasted out of the archway. They were, um, carrying these sheets of paper. Beta Actual? We lost you. T.M.? Beta team, what's going on? Getting nothing but white noise from Beta Actual and Beta 4.

I don't know. One in four are just standing at the ledge. And they're looking down at me. Their mouths are moving. Analytics reports. Uh, uh, what the hell are they doing? They're cutting your line. Beta-3, get out of there! No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! Come on! Come on! Beta 3 is in free fall. They're gone. Son of a bitch! Beta 4, be advised. Beta Actual and Beta 4 are hostile. I say again, Beta 4 and Beta Actual are hostile.

Beta 2, acknowledge. Yeah, I heard you. Fuck this shit. I'm so sorry, folks. I love you all. I've been thinking beta 2. Beta 4 is in free fall. And that's beta... Fuck! Hi guys, it's Daisy with your... Great news, Bloody FM fans. Our show, Dead... Deep Cover is a finalist for A Webby. Hi, I'm Shelby Novak. Addendum 3066-1. Eckhart Anatole discharges. After the expedition beta fiasco, O5 Command ordered a seismic analysis of the archway to determine what, if anything, lay beyond the threshold. Large chambers were detected, but further attempts at exploration were thwarted as each threshold was blocked by an anomalous singularity. D-class subjects and camera drones who cross the threshold abruptly stop responding. No personnel or hardware lost in this way has ever been recovered.

Furthermore, each incursion produces an Eckhart-Anatole discharge. These also occur at irregular intervals, usually at night. During a discharge, an estimated 500 tons of matter are expelled from SCP-3066-A into the surrounding forest. The first instance of this process caused significant damage to the cabin. This matter is usually propelled through the collapsed roof of SCP-3066 and into the upper troposphere.

Products of an Eckhart Anatole discharge are very flammable. It can be neutralized using incendiary weapons. Due to the flight trajectory taken by discharge material, cinders often fall on or near Brown Mountain, about 7 miles east of SCP-3066. Approximately 75% of the discharge mass is composed of 5 by 10 inch sheets of parchment paper. These pages are instances of SCP-3066-B and are covered in writing or sketches that contain potent cognitohazards.

The remaining mass varies between incidents. It usually consists of a delivery system for SCP-3066-B. Exposure at SCP-3066-B invariably results in immediate subversion of all higher mental functions. Affected individuals outside the cabin, designated SCP-3066-C, use any available medium to write on nearby surfaces, resorting to the use of their own bodily fluids when necessary. These communications are aimed at convincing observers to move towards SCP-3066.

Some instances also produce nonsensical poetry and prose. None of the writing created by SCP-3066-C is anomalous thus far. When in the presence of non-affected individuals, instances approach an utter incognito hazard which causes human listeners to become new instances of SCP-3066-C. While proper analysis is impossible at this time, the utterance is presumed to include a memetic agent carrying the effects of SCP-3066-B, one present in large group.

SCP-3066-C alter their behavior. Instances begin forming convoluted structures out of their own bodies. even extracting and utilizing their own internal organs as structural components. Note that SCP-3066-C are no more durable than non-anomalous human beings, though they do not have a pain response. The structures created by large collections of SCP-3066-C have the same effect as SCP-3066-B and may trigger the infection of much larger populations.

The following is a complete list of all Eckhart Anatole discharges which have occurred to date. Incident number 3066-1. The first recorded instance of an Eckhart Anatole discharge occurred as a result of Expedition Beta's drone incursion into the first archway in SCP-3066-A. Foundation operatives in the area reported minor seismic activity, followed by a loud report from the direction of SCP-3066.

Soon afterward, a large plume of insects was sighted ascending over Linville Gorge, heading east. A small aircraft was fielded to administer insecticide to the plume, but the chemical had little effect. During this initial flyby, it was confirmed that the plume consisted entirely of large beetles, each carrying a sheaf of paper. As the plume approached populated areas, it was deemed necessary to field a Foundation cargo lifter equipped with incendiary weapons.

The beetles proved to be more flammable than expected, and much of the plume was rapidly destroyed. Surviving elements of the discharge were collected for testing. Incident number 3066-2. Foundation personnel were setting up a surveillance perimeter around SCP-3066 and reported minor seismic activity immediately prior to discharge. Incendiaries were rapidly flown in, but no aerial elements were discovered.

The discharge was largely contained in the area immediately surrounding SCP-3066, where several thousand African great parrots were found roosting in the trees near the cabin. However, the forest floor was littered with instances of SCP-3066-B. The birds themselves were repeating the phrase, hell for the company, but were otherwise not anomalous. The effects of SCP-3066-B were more firmly established during this event, and cleanup operations extended over the next three months.

Incident number 3066-3. On-site personnel responded after seismic activity was detected preceding the discharge. Much of the discharge material was destroyed immediately after it emerged from SCP-3066, limiting the impact of the incident. Notably, the material was expelled at an incredibly high velocity, causing further damage to SCP-3066 and allowing a few grams of material to escape into the stratosphere.

This material was carried by winds towards the city of Morganton, where a minor outbreak of SCP-3066-C was detected and successfully contained. Incident number 3066-4. On-site personnel responded after seismic activity was detected preceding the discharge. All discharge material was successfully neutralized after it emerged from SCP-3066. Collateral damage to the forest and SCP-3066 was limited. Due to the rapid response, precise nature of the discharge was never identified.

incident number 3066-5. On-site personnel were unable to respond in a timely fashion due to an unrelated emergency in the area. Reports of a large white cloud over Linville Gorge were met with the deployment of an aircraft armed with incendiaries. The discharge material was found to be a swarm of ornithopters made of balsa wood and magpie feathers. The power source for the machines was never identified. Each ornithopter carried a sample of SCP-3066-B and was heading east.

Due to evasive action by the discharge material, extensive damage was caused to the forest in Linville Gorge before the threat could be neutralized. A joint effort between Foundation operatives and local firefighters was sufficient to extinguish the flames. The wildfire and noise were blamed on a lightning storm. SCP-3066 was discovered in the forest during early cleanup operations. Ancient number 3066-6.

On-site personnel responded after minor seismic activity was detected. Response efforts were successful and neutralized the discharge quickly. Though no samples were recovered, personnel reported the presence of origami butterflies, possibly made from SCP-3066-B. Incident number 3066-7. On-site personnel responded immediately to the discharge of several flame-resistant pods, each containing a sample of SCP-3066-B.

These pods appeared to be self-propelled and targeted Foundation personnel directly. Most of the response force was lost and became instances of SCP-3066-C. Air support was called in, and the remaining discharge material, as well as all instances of SCP-3066-C, were successfully neutralized. The possibility that SCP-3066 may be adapting to Foundation efforts is being investigated.

Addendum 3066-3, Recovered Journal. The following are excerpts from a journal found inside the writing desk in SCP-3066. October 3rd, 1931 I bought a cabin in North Carolina earlier this morning. I reasoned it would be a welcome change from the hubbub of New York City, and it might allow me to focus on my writing. I plan to begin packing as soon as I finish my work for the newspaper. When next I write, I hope to be basking in the natural glow of Appalachia.

October 31, 1931 i have arrived at my little cabin it is quaint just a few small rooms and a kitchen with a wood stove the cellar in the basement is where i will do my work a comfortable writing-desk awaits me The forest is disconcertingly quiet. There is nothing but the soft sound of birdsong and the wind stealing the last autumn leaves. I suppose I will come to enjoy solitude with time. With no distractions, I can finally write my novel in peace.

November 21st, 1931. I received a letter from New York. My mother would like me to visit the family for Christmas. I miss them, but I declined her invitation. The words are fairly spilling from my pen, and I don't want to interrupt my progress with travel. I will spend the winter here in North Carolina. December 13, 1931. I visited Morganton today. I needed to stock up on food and firewood for the coming snows. It's a welcoming enough place, if rather slow.

there were many people curious what someone from the big city was doing in the backwoods. If you were interested in my novel and would be willing to read it once it's done, I've begun to entertain the concept of publication. Perhaps I can make my fortune this way. January 17, 1932 I tried to leave the valley, but there is still snow blocking the trail. I have enough food to last into summer, but isolation is my main concern.

I'm glad to report that I have made significant headway in my writings over the winter. I expect to be finished before the end of spring. February 3rd, 1932. There is still no way out of the gorge. The forest glittering with pure white snow is mesmerizing, particularly in the early morning. February 10, 1932. I have been having trouble with my novel the last few days. I'm dissatisfied with the earlier chapters, and I'm considering a rewrite.

I am also increasingly preoccupied with the broad public perception of my novel. I would very much like my work to become known the world over. March 4th, 1932 My work has come to a standstill Weeks have passed me by I can scarcely remember them I lay and think as my pen sits idle March 6th, 1932 I walked in the woods today, hoping to clear my mind. As I stamped out a new trail in my snow shoes, remembering the vibrant colors of late autumn, I stumbled upon the most curious bird.

It was a raven, or a crow, I think, but entirely white. What an odd little thing. I've begun writing again, little by little. That fervor that I felt when I first arrived here has returned. I am hopeful for the future. I saw the white crow today, watching me from outside my window. March 10th, 1932. I have decided the best way to complete this novel is to remove all the complexity. No supporting characters, no setting, nothing but raw emotion.

I will write the story as a series of self-reflections from a single man. Powerful, simple, and accessible. March 13th, 1932. My efforts bear fruit and my work proceeds well. I can hardly believe it, but the crow I saw visited me today. It left me a bottle of ink just as I was starting to run out. It must be such a clever little bird. I have no idea where it found the bottle, but the ink is absolutely mar-

Black as a moonless night and smooth as mountain air. I will cherish this gift and put it to good youth. March 20th, 1932. I have seen myself for what I truly am. Ignorance is bliss. April, 1932. My food stores are becoming thin, but I find myself needing to eat less and less as I work. The glow of inspiration sustains me. I find the mirror increasingly useful as a portal into the depths of my human mind. Some days I simply write what it whispers to me. May, 1932. It is nearly finished.

There are only a few more revisions to make. It has been a few months since I last made way to Morganton. i must replenish my provisions soon the white crow left a few feathers as a gift today i selected the best of them tempered it and carefully fashioned a quill A quill is an archaic instrument, more temperamental than my steel pen, yet elegant. It shall be my instrument of choice from now on.

1934. There are no words for what I have witnessed. The place where the quill... firm as reality itself. of my own mind, my own will. There I have written myself a grand palace gleaming on a lavender hillside. with great pain that I waste time on these petty words. Every moment spent on Earth is hell compared to my new paradise. My earthly pains have returned. It seems I have been gone a long time Has it always had a mind of its own? It creates of its own accord.

End this before I go insane clumsy but ruthless and efficient Where I left ruins and smoke, it manifest hell. In the past, I used this word figuratively, but now I use it literally. The world is beyond death. Azure firmament now red as the skies of Flanders. Precious lavender, your petals have become ash, your sweet aroma. Poison.

I don't know where I am. I woke up an hour ago and found the walls of my sanctuary covered in a strange gold symbol and shapes I do not recognize. My head hurts when I look at them. The quail is there on the desk. I'll try to stop it from the inside. It needs me, and I can keep it from breaking free as long as I'm willing to spend the rest of my existence in hell. However...

That the Quill and I aren't so different. All it wants is for the world to read what it writes, just like I did all those years ago. Maybe I'm the only one here. Maybe I'm already dead! I just don't know! Bringing the whole world down with me. to earth without an emissary and fashion. Abominations. I'm the only one who knows about it It is a secret that will die with me. No one will know of my sacrifice, but if I, if I, if I can stop it, I'll be satisfied.
