Susan Lambert

This is Susan Lambert, host of Science of Reading: The Podcast. I'm thrilled to share that we, along with Amplify's two other podcasts, Math Teacher Lounge and Science Connections, are about to launch brand new seasons. Subscribing to all three is the best way to get the latest insights from education researchers and practitioners.

Here on Science of Reading: The Podcast, we've gotten so many great complex questions from listeners that we're devoting our seventh season to tackling the hard stuff—because when it comes to dramatically improving literacy rates, we know, and our expert guests tell us, it's hard.

Claude Goldenberg

I wish there were a simple solution, but I don't really think there is.

Susan Lambert

Coming up this season, we'll work together to answer your most pressing questions and tackle the hard stuff. Meanwhile, my colleagues at Science Connections also have an exciting season in the works.

Eric Cross

The theme of season three is, science is the underdog.

Speaker 1

That's Eric Cross, middle school science teacher, adjunct professor, and host of Science Connections.

Eric Cross

And a little of the background to this, science, in so many different districts and places around the country, kind of at times, can be pushed to the back burner.

Susan Lambert

This season of Science Connections will explore how science can thrive in a world in which it's sadly often overshadowed by literacy and math.

Eric Cross

A lot of times, schools and districts are heavily judged and determined by their performance and those scores, and what doesn't often get talked about is how much of an ally science can be to developing those skills.

Susan Lambert

Over the course of the season, Eric and his guests will offer a roadmap for uplifting science education. Meanwhile, on Math Teacher Lounge...

Bethany Lockhart Johnson

Math becomes the the butt of a lot of jokes.

Dan Meyer

Math occupies a unique and terrifying place in the imagination of the student and the former student.

Susan Lambert

That's Bethany Lockhart Johnson and Dan Meyer, co-hosts of Math Teacher Lounge. On their upcoming season, Bethany, a longtime educator and curriculum design consultant, and Dan, a former high school math teacher who is now director of research at Desmos, will dive into math anxiety.

Bethany Lockhart Johnson

We're really going to be talking about, what is math anxiety, and then we also wanna talk to researchers that have been thinking about this for a really long time. Folks who have looked at, how does it affect performance? Is it disproportionate? I mean, let me tell you, there are so many things we can talk about about math anxiety.

Susan Lambert

All three seasons will launch by April 5th, 2023. Make sure to catch them by subscribing to Science of Reading: The Podcast, Math Teacher Lounge, and Science Connections. We'll have links in the show notes. We promise you won't want to miss them.

Dan Meyer

I'm under strict embargo from Amplify not to reveal any plot twists, or any special guest stars, but there's gonna be some wild stuff happening, so you better tune in.
