As teachers and former teachers, we all know that December is a vibe, and by vibe I mean a hot mess of wrapping up units celebrating holidays and just holding it all together until break. So let's chat about how we can provide content that serves our teacher audience in this hectic season.

So teacher authors, go ahead and reheat that cup of coffee because I'm your host, Kassaundra Foster and we're about to get schooled in socials.

Kassaundra 0:31

Welcome back to schooled in socials. And happy December. We know that December is a doozy of a month, even if we aren't in the classroom. So how do you best serve your teacher audience when they're in the trenches?

Kassaundra 0:46

First, I want you to think about what you use most this time of year as a teacher, or think back to all of those Decembers that you were in the classroom. What did you do to get through that month? What activities did you do to keep the wheels from falling off the wagon? How did you handle the holidays and the hype of the impending break? What skills did you focus on that got your students excited to continue learning during this time? Those are the kinds of things you want to share with your audience to help them make it out of December in one piece. In my experience, I needed quick solutions, low prep or no prep, themed resources I could easily grab and go. And I'm guessing you would probably agree with me here. So take a look at your resources and which ones would fit the time of year, or topics teachers in your niche would probably be covering during December. Then identify the ones that are low or no prep - bonus points, if they are smaller, more affordable resources so it's truly easy for your audience to grab and run with them. And then focus on sharing those resources throughout the month. Share them in your stories, on your feed, create reels of them. Lean into storytelling by sharing your experiences with using these resources this time of year and how it helped you tame the chaos or lean into it effectively.

Now, of course, I want you to make dollar bills in December, but December is also a great time to set yourself up for success for the new year without selling a bunch of your resources. This is a great time to feature those lead magnets that you have. Think about ways to share your free resources that teachers can either use right away or tuck away as a future gift to themselves after the chaos dies down. Not only does it honor the season your audience is currently living through, but it helps you grow your email list so you can nurture them and be ready to share amazing resources once they hit the ground running again in January, it's a way to make your audience feel taken care of while also taking care of your business.

Kassaundra 3:11

Now, no matter what kind of solutions you offer up to your teacher audience in December, let's be honest, it's still going to be a wild ride. So don't be afraid to lean into the chaos of the season by providing some comic relief or deep understanding of what they're going through. Think about sharing funny memes that represent the day to day of being a teacher in December, or quotes and reminders to them to be gentle with themselves in this season. Again, this content is serving your audience and making them feel seen and taken care of, but it can also set you up for success in the new year by getting more eyes on your content. Since humorous content and even those heartfelt quotes are highly shareable, if teachers resonate with it, they are likely to share it, and the more it gets shared, the more eyes on your business as we head into the new year. That sounds like a win win to me.

And finally, and most importantly, ask your audience. We aren't mind readers, these tips would have served me as a teacher back in the day, and have proven to serve my clients' audiences during December. But everyone's audience is different. So create some polls in your stories. Get teachers talking to you about what they struggle with this time of year, what they are really looking forward to seeing from you when they open social media at the end of a long day, and then provide them with that. You might find that your audience is craving those quick solutions, easy, ready to go resources. You might find that your audience has everything planned and could just use a little comic relief at the end of the day. Or you might find a combination or something completely different. Never underestimate the power of inviting your audience into the conversation.

So when it comes to helping your audience survive December, lean into those quick solution resources, those freebies they can bank for later, and that humor and understanding all while you gather information from them about what they need.

Kassaundra 5:26

Now I know December isn't just chaos for teachers in the classroom, it's chaos for all of us. So let's end this episode with a quick win. Head to your social media insights and find the posts that got the most engagement last December and re share it, because you can bet if it resonated with your audience last December, it will again this December too.
