Know who you are.
One of the things I love about our sport is that it brings people from all walks of life together to enjoy pushing our limits and seeing what we can do. I enjoyed this in-person visit with Dr. William Clark. Dr. Clark is a spinal surgeon here in Tulsa Oklahoma specializing in scoliosis and spinal deformity. He loves his job and the challenges it presents him on a regular basis. Dr. Clark is an Ironman who has also done ultra-distance mountain bike races, including the Leadville 100. He’s also co...
This week we chat with Midwest speedster, Jaclyn Long. Jaclyn is known for a few things in races around here - speed, naps, waking from the dead, and a unique bluntness during races with her crew. She’s a busy woman. She’s a mom and nanny and raises tortoises, turkeys, and other "fowl" creatures. Running gave her a focus when she was recovering from an eating disorder and she hasn’t stopped! Join us for a very interesting conversation with Jaclyn! Show Notes: http://www.theriot.run/jlong
I had a blast catching up with Mike to talk about all that he’s been up to since we had him on the podcast on episode 6. On that first interview, we focused on Mike’s accident that could have kept him from running again. We also discussed his win of all three races in the Triple Crown of 200s. This time we talk a bit more about his low carb approach to running, his ZERO calorie 100-mile run, the Colorado Trail FKT, his Cocodona 250 DNF, and his big plans for the future which includes a 2022 Appa...
Today we’ll be chatting with a friend of mine, Jeremy Howard. Jeremy, like many of us, found his love for running a little later in life and discovered that he was good at it! Last weekend, I raced the North Fork 50 mile race in Buffalo Creek, CO. It was a training race and I got it done, but I had some issues along the way. I thought it would be interesting for the listeners to listen in as I discussed the race with my coach, Cliff Pittman. Cliff Pittman has been a guest on the podcast before and he always brings lots of knowledge to the table. Listen in as we discuss what was good, what was bad, and what was ugly. Oh man, this is a good one. Kay (Pronounced Kai) Bretz had a paradigm shift when he decided to turn right! Kay, author of the book “Turning Right” had a 22% improvement in his 24 hour time in just 18 months and set the course record by 5 hours on the 250km (155mile) Big Red Run! What was the difference? His mindset! It was really enlightening to unpack Kay’s experience and explore the benefit of reframing how we think about training, running, and life. Show notes here: https://www.theriot.run/ka...
Christi Burns discovered her gift of running long miles and hasn’t looked back. She’s overcome adversity and keep moving forward. I challenge you to find a running picture of her without a smile on her face! She also enlightened me to a unique use for aid station cups. :) Show Notes: https://www.theriot.run/christiburns/
AJW (Andy Jones-Wilkins) has been a big part of our sport for quite some time. He hasn’t been afraid to make a statement both in his competitiveness on the trails and in his writing and interviews. It was such a pleasure getting to know AJW and gain some insight into his history, methods, and mindset in ultrarunning. I know you’ll enjoy listening in as we laugh together and unpack some of what makes our sport so great. Show Notes: http://www.theriot.run/ajw
Arnold is a very experienced runner here in Tulsa who has had a really interesting life. Until middle school, he grew up on a Navajo reservation in Arizona with no electricity or running water. The life he lived there, prepared him to be an Ultrarunner later in life. Arnold ran his first ultra, a 100 miler, in 2006, and has been testing himself every since. So far he’s completed 29 hundos and shows no sign of stopping. This year, he’ll be attempting his second finish at the infamous Badwater 135...

Tapering for LOViT 100......taper.....madness.....thinking about my "Why" - for running and life.
"It's not about perfect. It's about EFFORT. And when you implement that effort into your life....EVERY SINGLE DAY, that's where the transformation happens. That's how change occurs. Keep Going. Remember why you started."
Kurt is a mathematician from Arkansas who is living and teaching in Maryland. His social media posts have cracked me up over the years. We talk a lot about races in his home state of Arkansas, particularly the Arkansas Traveller and the LOViT 100. We spend some time exploring his journey this year to get stronger by working out using kettlebells, maces, clubs, and sandbags. Show notes: http://www.theriot.run/kurt
