Week 2 of our study of Philippians
Week 1 of our Study of Philippians
This final week, we conclude our brief series called “It Is Finished” with the Resurrection. After having looked at the life of Christ, the death of Christ, we now look at the significance of his resurrection!
This week we continue our brief series called “It Is Finished”, leading us toward Easter. After having looked at the life of Christ last week, this week we turn to his death.
This week we began a brief series called “It Is Finished”, leading us toward Easter. In this three part series we will consider the necessity of the full work of Jesus in his (1) Life, (2) Death, (3) and Resurrection. For the Gospel to be Good News, we need to understand all three. Join us as we begin shifting toward the Easter Season! This week, we look at Jesus' life.
In our final look at Lamentations, we consider more deeply the realities of revival? Are we on the verge of a revival? We don't know. However, can the church live in ways at reflect revival? Yes. Pastor Justin considers what revival is, what it looks like, and how we can be prepared for it.
The beginnings of revival are always marked by self-examination, confession, and repentance. In week 4 of our series in Lamentations, Pastor Justin unpacks what it means to rightly self-exam, while also trusting God for renewal and revival.
The ability for pain and praise to be simultaneously present in our lives is one of the unique realities of the Christian faith. The poet of Lamentations 3 puts this truth on full display. Whatever tragedy might befall us, whatever storms may come, whatever suffering awaits us, may our refrain in all circumstances be, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23)!
In this second week of our series in Lamentations, we look at the deception that comes when we allow idols or functional gods to sit on the thrones of our heart. However, God in his love for us, will tear down those idols for our ultimate good. Listen to see why that is good news!
This Sunday, for Lent, we begin a new series looking at the challenging book of Lamentations. The Lenten season is a solemn season of preparation in which we embrace the longing that precedes the work of Jesus on the cross. In this first sermon, Pastor Justin gives context for the book and for our need for lament.
In our final sermon in the series Walking with Jesus, we looked at Luke 18 and considered what it means to focus our vision on Jesus. May we never look to what we do or not do for justification before God, but rather may we always look only to what Jesus has done for us!
In our sixth week in the Gospel of Luke, we looked at some of Jesus' most famous teachings - the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son. We did so in order to consider where we are in relation to him that we might have a better sense of who he is to us.
Luke 14:25-33 25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. 28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the founda...
In our fourth week in the Gospel of Luke, we focused on getting to know Jesus in the context of our repentance from Luke 13:1-9. While we often frown on the discipline of repentance, it’s in true repentance that we find freedom, joy, and life. And it’s where we get to know Jesus most intimately.
Luke 9:28-36 The Transfiguration 28 About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31 They spoke about his departure,[ a ] which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when...
This week we continue our series looking at passages from the Gospel of Luke in order to consider what is means to not know about Jesus, but rather to know him. In this second sermon in the series, based out of Luke 4:16-30, we wrestle with the beautiful, yet scandalous reality that salvation only comes to the poor. Though that is a jarring statement, listen and consider why it is also beautiful and hope-filled.
In this new series through the Gospel of Luke, we consider what is means to not know about Jesus, but rather to know him. In this first sermon in the series, based out of Luke 3-4, we see the ways Jesus is like us and also not like us and how that makes him the kind of savior we need.
In our final sermon in our Advent series, Pastor Justin presents for us why in advent we do not just look back, but look ahead. Though we are on this side of Christ's first coming, we also long for him to come again. May we find renewed hope and joy in remembering that God is making all things new!
Continuing in our Advent series, Pastor Justin considers the hope found in our King, who is called, Immanuel, God with Us. The story of Jesus in Exile in Matthew 2 gives clarity into the kind of King we have in Jesus and why that means we can willingly submit our lives to him.
Continuing in our Advent series, Pastor Justin considers the depths of wisdom found in Immanuel, God with Us. The story of the Wise Men in Matthew 2 gives insight into why there is wisdom in worldly wisdom, but it is wisdom that will ultimately leave us wanting, unless it comes in contact with the Word of God.
Matthew 1:18-25 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is co...
In this Advent season, we begin a series looking at what it means for Jesus to be, Immanuel, God with us, as this is one of the most significant claims of the Christian faith. This week, Pastor Justin unpacks what it means for God to be with us from generation to generation by looking at the genealogy found in Matthew 1.
In this final week of our "Who Are We?" series will consider our fifth and final core value - "unity". This week Pastor Justin considers the prayer of Jesus in John 17 and what it means to have unity in the midst diversity - unity that makes the love of God known to the world.
In our ongoing series, we continue to look at our core values. Our fourth core value is "mercy & justice". This week Pastor Justin unpacks how we ought to rightly think about mercy and justice through the striking passages found in Amos 5.
In our ongoing series, we continue to look at our core values. Our third core value is "community involvement". This week Pastor Justin unpacks what community involvement looks like in relation to the idea of faithful presence through the lens of Jesus' prayer in John 17.
This week we continue considering who we are as church by looking at our core values. Our second core value is "spiritual formation", as we believe Christians are called to not only be a spiritually formed follower of Jesus, but are also called to help others become spiritually formed followers of Jesus.
This week we continue considering who we are as church by shifting gears to look at our core values. Our first core value is "personal conversion", as we believe the Gospel truly impacts and converts every part of our life for matter where we come from or what we have experienced. This Gospel is for you!
In the short two weeks series, Pastor Justin unpacks Redeemer East Harlem's vision to be "a church both in and for East Harlem that seeks to both know and show the love of God in Christ." This week, we consider what it is to "show" the love of Christ by looking at it through the lens of the Kingdom of God.
