Episode 55: Aydan and Matt - Matt's story
Aydan has their dear friend as a guest for the first time, but definitely not the last. Matthew tells his story, and only scratches the surface as to their experience with toxic religion.

Jeff is the guest this week and he shares his experience growing up under similar conditions as I have described at times, but for reasons that are quite different than mine. As we have discussed on this podcast before, it is not exclusively religion that can be toxic or used to hurt people. It is the intention and the tools that are used inappropriately against people.
Aydan, and their good friend Elizabeth, hang out and discuss the consequences of religious trauma on a psychological level. Elizabeth Swindell Hedlund, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (#134408), brings professional and compassionate insight to the topics in this episode.
I apologize for the poor sound quality. Aydan's mic is very quiet throughout the entire episode. Listen carefully and you might hear something interesting....but no guarantees
It's the usual format for Tony and Aydan. They say they'll talk about New Year's Resolutions and then talk about anything but that.
Christi, Tony's sister, joins Aydan and Tony in this episode. She discusses her experience with toxic religion and the family dynamics it can create. It is difficult, sobering and hilarious! We would expect nothing less from the sister of Tony.
Aydan and Tony waste no time in getting the laughs started.
*I apologize for the audio quality in this one. There were some mic issues that I wasn't aware of until I was listening to the recording to edit. Aydan and Tony talk about some memories of their time in church, the challenges that anxiety from their religious trauma creates in making life choices now, and some hypocrisy and irony of many toxic religious organizations who claim they're behaving "like Jesus"
Things get emotional in this episode when Aydan, Emerson, and Tony talk about self care and unconditional love that comes from our own bodies
Annelise and Aydan discuss, among many other things, the concept of 1st thought and 2nd thought. Also, be warned...the word "moist" is used at some point in this episode!
Aydan and Tony discover what Aydan's name actually means and decides that it was actually Mary who demanded the water be turned to wine at the wedding.
Annelise's first episode as an offical co-host of the podcast! Aydan talks about a problematic class they went to. Don't miss it!
Aydan and Emerson's discussions are always deep, thoughtful and insightful. You won't be disappointed by their conversation in this episode!
Enjoy Aydan and Annelise get sincere and very insincere in this episode...as usual!
Be prepared for your normal amount of foolishness with Aydan and Tony. The topics may include Jesus' sexuality and musical climaxes. Good luck!
Aydan and Emerson talked a bit about painting their nails and then a lot about religious trauma. Enjoy!
So...we are a tad behind on episodes so the next few titles/descriptions may just be who the hosts are...but that doesn't change the fact that we talk about religious trauma, offer helpful (mostly) advice, and do it hilariously!
Aydan, Tony, and Annelise host this episode, and the spectrum of topics, jokes, and deep subjects they span is immeasurable. I guarantee you will enjoy it!
Aydan and Tony catch up after the new year and discuss getting sober, manipulation, the "unforgivable sin," and the ultimate Christian "de-transition" (cue eye roll here). You'll laugh, maybe rage, and roll your eyes so hard you may not be able to get them back in place. Enjoy!
We talk about toxic religion, ya'll...I'm bad at these descriptions
Ok, I am so behind on uploading that I can't even totally remember what episode this is but...I think it's about how much I dislike New Year's Resolutions...If not, surprise! Enjoy whatever it is about :D
We're finally catching up! In this episode, Aydan and Tony laugh, laugh harder, and sometimes talk about the challenges surrounding queer people and the holidays. But then they just laugh some more. So, enjoy this holiday nonsense with Aydan and Tony!
Tony and Aydan discuss some of the things they have experienced and some of the effects of their experiences with toxic religion. It's deep, it's shallow, serious and hilarious. Exactly what you'd expect from these two. Enjoy!
An unexpected visit with our dear friend, Annelise! We talk about holidays, gift ideas, and tell some rather hilarious but slightly embarrassing stories.
Tony and Aydan continue their discussion of how fear is used as a manipulation tactic in toxic religion. They also discuss the fear they felt when coming out. This is also the episode with the most laughter! You are sure to enjoy it!
Emerson and Aydan chat with special guest Holly Rae. They're a student, mother, professional astrologer, and all around bad-ass! Holly shares some of their history with Mormonism and gives a lot of great insight into life after and how they have come to reconcile those experiences.
Tony and Aydan talk about how toxic religion uses fear to control and manipulate people.
Emerson is joined by his mother and sister. Their discussion is insightful, sincere, honest, and heartwarming. Do yourself a favor and don't skip this episode.
For the first time Emerson, Tony and Aydan are all together on this episode. They all do a short recap of their stories and there is a LOT of laughing and inappropriate jokes. Want to know what "Fire Hair and Ice Nipples" is about? Don't skip this episode!
Tony and Aydan look up the definition of religion. They also discuss their experience with religious manipulation. There are the expected deviations and distractions that you have all, surely, come to love by now.
