The latest from our daily newsletter at podnews.net with Red Circle. Podcasts are highly unusual. According to a study released today by Sounds Profitable, podcast advertising is recalled just as much by female listeners as male listeners. And that's not the case in TV, radio or even Reddit where there's significant male bias in recall.

Tom Webster tells us that it's a medium where your message is equally likely to break through, regardless of which half of the population you're trying to reach. The winners of the 2025 Quill Podcast Awards were announced. Podcast of the Year went to Well I Laughed, a podcast for listeners who find themselves in search of a good laugh and their next strange story to tell at parties. Willing to all of the winners today.

Passes are now available for PodSummit YYC 2025 in Calgary, Alberta in Canada this September. This year's line-up of speakers is headlined by Jesse Lipscomb and me, with live podcast shows from Sick Boy and CBC's Crime Story. Podcasts haven't been ruined by brands yet, but they soon will be, according to a keynote at Mumbrella 360 in Sydney today, from an ad-land satirist, Rob Mayhew. The advertising media conference continues tomorrow. And in Germany, the MA podcast figures were released for April. Total downloads were down 5% from March. True crime show Maudlust made it to number one, with 6.8 million downloads. The ranker measures participating publishers only.

In people news, Irish public broadcaster RTE has appointed its first head of podcasting. Hugh Ormond has worked within RTE as a producer for radio and TV for 18 years. And in podcast news today, the latest episode of People in Podcasting features me. The show is also available on YouTube and Spotify in video. Knock yourself out. The latest episode of PodCraft wonders, do we need to champion spoken word audio in a world of video hype?

Matthew McLean spoke with a number of people at the podcast show in London to ask. And with the news of the death of Alan Yentob in Insiders, the TV podcast, Peter Fincham and Jimmy Mulville take the opportunity to remember their old and much-loved friend, to celebrate his life and work, and to pay tribute to the huge impact he had on the world of British television. There's also inevitably a plug for the River Cafe in there. It's what Alan would have wanted, we're told.

And Netflix has a new podcast, launching a new comedy podcast with BBC Studios. It's called The Big Pitch with Jimmy Carr. And Jimmy Carr invites a celebrity guest to pitch an idea for a film based on one of the super niche sub-genres on Netflix. It's up to Jimmy whether it gets made.
