¶ Managing Anxiety and Overworking Tips
All right , y'all , Welcome to another episode of the Peace and Prosperity Podcast . We're back Super excited . It's been a minute . Well , we're going to get into one of the favorite , most common topics , which is anxiety , and we're going to talk about where that anxiety is coming from and why you are having a hard time managing your anxiety .
So I see this a lot , especially in my high achievers , and when I say high achievers , these are the people you want to perform , you want to be great , you want to show up and deliver really nothing but excellence . If you identify with being a high achiever , you're probably someone who one does not like to fail , does not like to tell people no .
So you end up stretching yourself a little bit too much because you know one , it's worked before . But you also don't want to let people down . But there are some downsides to that . I guess in the beginning it feels great and at the end of the day , even if you are overstretched , you feel like , well , I got it done , but at what cost ?
So let's look at one some of the mistakes that you're making to manage your anxiety . The first mistake is you're overworking . You're pushing , pushing , pushing and pushing yourself to the limit . But here's the thing nobody's going to tell you to ease up , especially if they benefit from you overworking , For example .
You're at the job , you find yourself staying late , taking calls on a weekend , not taking your lunch break and essentially , your work life balance is terrible . It's non-existent . You want to slow down and look at how this is so ineffective to you , being a healthy version for yourself and for your family .
So that's one reason it's not working because you continue to overwork . So that's one reason it's not working because you continue to overwork . Another thing that happens when you are you're trying to manage your anxiety is you get caught up in the perfectionism , like the little details . You want everything to be just right Now y'all .
I can speak to this from a personal level and professional level because I've been there . I've had people tell me look , hey , jason , this is enough , this is done , this is good . And then sometimes I'm like , no , I need X , y , a , b , c , d . And they're like , no , no , no , just chill , relax , you're good .
You may not have somebody encouraging you or coaching you in that manner , and that's why you're tapping into the podcast , because you're going to hear from me where I'm telling you give yourself a break , give yourself much more grace . So overworking and perfectionism is not helping your anxiety .
If anything , it's probably pushing your anxiety more , because you're setting yourself up to operate at a standard or a level that is not sustainable . Yes , it's worked in the past . Yes , you've gotten great results , but what was the cost ? And I'm not talking about the financial cost . What was the mental cost ? Like ? What toil did it take ?
Or toll did it take on your body , on your mindset , on your family , because you're putting so much effort into everything or everything else , and you're neglecting the things that seem to be so important to you . Hey , peace and Prosperity , family . I want to take a moment to talk about something vital for all organizations employee wellness .
I focus on tackling issues such as low morale , burnout and helping teams thrive by improving their employee wellness . Here's what some of the past organizations have shared about their experiences .
Vincent Phillips has been a tremendous value to our team . His session on psychological safety and mental health tools for leadership has been immense for all of us .
The privilege of joining Mr Jason Phillips a wonderful session about psychological safety and psychological health . There were a lot of key takeaways from his presentation . I mean he discussed just how leadership impacts team health and team mental health .
In Jason's session today and I just took away a lot of invaluable information to bring back to my shop . If you're interested in investing in your team's mental health , visit JasonLPhillipscom or visit the link below , and let's talk about creating a thriving work environment for your organization . Now back to the episode . So you probably are , jason .
You talk to me . So what do I do about this ? Yes , I know I'm overworking . Yes , I know I I'm striving for perfectionism , but what do I do about it ? The first thing I want you to do is ask yourself where is this external pressure coming from ?
Who is telling you that you have to be perfect , you have to have it all together and you can't take a break ? Was this something that was told to you , like growing up ? Is this something that's new , with the boss you have or the team that you're working on ? Or is this something , innately , that you feel like you have to do ?
It's not anybody else , but it's you telling yourself if I don't perform or if I don't overextend , then I'm not good enough , if I don't overwork , then I'm not worthy . What does that dialogue look like ? What does that self-talk look like ?
And in order to really get crystal clear on what that looks like , one you got to slow down and really take inventory of the thoughts that you're having . Often , when I'm doing a session with somebody , we're going to look at what is the language that you're telling yourself Like , what conversations are you having ?
And we are often like we get surprised , like , oh , I didn't realize how much I'm putting on me . All this time I've been blaming my boss , I've been blaming my spouse , I've been putting pressure and saying that it's my clients that I work with or the people that I serve , but really it's been you .
But we gotta get to the root of where's that pressure coming from . Did something happen in your life ? And ever since that situation or experience happened , you're like never again . I'm not going to feel like this again . So let me do the most , like the absolute most that I can do to always be great or always be perfect .
Hey , as you hear , as I'm saying right now , always is not sustainable . Perfection is not a sustainable goal . Yes , you want to still operate in a stance of excellence , you want to push yourself , but there has to be some limits and check and balance .
So if you find yourself again not taking breaks , not taking vacation , not taking days off , you find yourself you can't sleep at night because you're worried about the next day . These are some of the indicators that you are overworking , you're operating out of that perfectionism or perfectionistic mindset and you're not giving yourself grace .
So , again , as we wrap up , I want to give you some tips . One ask yourself where's the pressure coming from ? Some tips One ask yourself where's the pressure coming from ? Who is telling you that you have to overextend and push yourself without having any good boundaries ?
Secondly , I want you to slow down and identify what are the messages that you're telling yourself , and this is where you probably have to get off some pen and paper . You're going to probably have to allocate some time just for you . If you have your therapy session , great .
If you don't , I'm going to advocate for you or promote you getting one , but take some time to just journal , sit back and get in touch with your thoughts , like what are the thoughts that are running through your mind ? How do you feel about you ? How is that coming out in the interactions you're having with people , in the interactions you're having at work ?
Are you not able to show up for your family because you're so focused on being perfect ? And then , lastly , as you're giving yourself that grace , I want you to take some time out and relax , do something fun , do something enjoyable without feeling guilty . I know you like wait , jason .
That's a lot , but I'm trusting that if you're listening to these messages , you can go back . It's going to take some time , but follow the steps to take some of that pressure off of you and just be you . All right , y'all . Thank you all for tuning in .
