¶ Find and Operate in Your Purpose
All right , y'all , welcome to another episode of the Peace and Prosperity Podcast . I'm your host , jason Phillips , licensed therapist , confidence expert , and today we're talking about how to find and operate in your purpose , because it's not enough just to find your purpose , but you want to be able to operate in your purpose too .
So this is going to be the conversation for you if you feel stuck in your career or stuck in your personal life too . So what gets in the way of you finding your purpose ? What are the roadblocks , what are the mindset barriers ? How come ?
This seems to be a challenging issue for a lot of us , particularly those of us who really want to do things right , like there's . We are the people who our parents told us hey , get a job , retire , raise your family , call it a day .
And I know for myself , operating in my purpose one has been the best thing that I can do , like being able to talk to you , being able to serve clients , being able to speak on stages , being able to have a voice in the community is something that I would not trade for anything .
Like my wife knows that she's like you love to work and I do , but that's because I love to serve and I'm operating in my purpose , so I could do this all day long . I truly could . But how do you get there ? The first thing you have to do is let go of the expectations that other people have for you .
You may be someone who is good at a lot of things . You're good with your hands , you're good with people , you're good with systems . All of these things are great and you could excel at each and every level but where is your true passion at ? Let me run this back again You're good here .
You can , you can do this , you can do that , but what brings you joy ? So you have to let go of the expectations that other people have for you , and now you have to think about what are the expectations that you have and that you want for your life .
It's almost like when you're young , your life story is written out for you from your parents or people who raised you , and then your job seems to be that you go and play out that life story to the T . You may tweak it here and there and enhance it along the way , but essentially , what you're trying to do is live out what everyone has told you .
You should do so if there is a family tradition of going to school , working in education and then raising a family .
That's essentially what you may find yourself doing going to school , getting a degree Maybe it's not even the degree that you wanted , but it's the degree that everybody said you will be good at and what happens is you leave that experience feeling unfulfilled , like you want more , but you're good at what you do .
So that's where it becomes really challenging to let go of these expectations , because you are performing well to someone else's standards , but what about the standards and expectations that you have for your life ?
So if you find yourself stuck , not operating in your purpose , the first thing I want you to do is let go of other people and their expectations for you . The second thing I want you to do is I want you to choose happiness .
Now , that may seem existential , it may not seem tangible , but you have to get super clear on what happiness means and what it looks like for you . So if that means staying in the career that you're at , if that means staying in the city that you live in or continuing to do the things that you do on a daily basis , then great .
But if it means that you need to pivot and do something else , then I want you to give yourself permission to do so . You're not a kid anymore . You don't have to do everything that your parents have told you to do . If you are a kid listening to this podcast , at some point you will be able to make your own decisions .
So you might as well start thinking like yourself now . Choose happiness and operate from a sense of your own self-worth and what you want for you , not what everybody else wants , and that could be . It could be challenging , because maybe you don't want to let somebody down . You think , if I do choose myself , then what does that look like ?
You may be really afraid of success . If you do , pivot , because right now , if you have not let go of expectations , you've not truly chosen happiness for yourself . You probably are stuck , but you are probably also comfortable . See , we don't move until we get uncomfortable .
When you decide to make an extreme decision for your life , it's typically not because things are going a little bit wrong . It's because things are going way off and you're at the point where you have to do something differently , like you can no longer function at this rate anymore .
So let's back it up , let's slow things down and let's look at what choosing you and choosing happiness for you and your life truly looks like . Hey , peace and prosperity , family . I want to take a moment to talk about something vital for all organizations employee wellness .
I focus on tackling issues such as low morale , burnout and helping teams thrive by improving their employee wellness . Here's what some of the past organizations have shared about their experiences .
Vincent Phillips has been a tremendous value to our team . His session on psychological safety and mental health tools for leadership has been immense for all of us .
The privilege of joining Mr Jason Phillips a wonderful session about psychological safety and psychological health . There are a lot of key takeaways from from his presentation . I mean he discussed just how leadership impacts team health and team mental health .
Then Jason's session today , and I just took away a lot of invaluable information to bring back to my shop . You're interested in investing in your team's mental health ? The third thing I want you to do is stop comparing yourself to what someone else is doing . It's going to be hard for you to choose happiness for you . If only if , like your measuring stick is someone else's life . You don't even know if that person is truly happy , but you're measuring yourself up to what they are doing . That's not . That's not healthy .
It is not healthy for a number of reasons , because that person could be living a facade and then , ultimately , you truly don't get a chance to blossom and do what you want . See , people will put a lot of things on you and they'll tell you you know , go this way , do it this route .
But if , innately , you know there's something more that you desire , then you have to . You have to do it . I don't think you're going to be truly fulfilled . I'm not even going to say happy because I mean happy could be , it can come and go , but I mean fulfilled .
It's like you're walking in your purpose because you know when you get up in the morning , hey , it may be tough , it may be rough , but I'm doing exactly what I'm called to do .
And this is where the spirituality piece comes into it , because now you get a chance to combine , like your thoughts , your internal feelings , but also you can mix your spirituality or your religion , your faith , into your calling .
And once you start operating from that lens , all the fear that you have , all the worry about failing it starts to disseminate or decrease . I want to make sure I don't want to say disseminate it starts to go away . That worry starts to go away . And now you still show up , despite of Like , if you're doing something and you're scared , you still show up .
You have a fear that it may flop , you still do it anyway . That's not only when your confidence starts clicking , but it's also when you really start to move into your sense of purpose . For me , being a therapist , being a speaker , being a professor , these are all things that I wanted for myself .
But in order to move into these spaces , I had to let go of expectations that people have for me . Some people wanted me to just stay in a clinic the rest of my career . Some people may have wanted me to just stay in a classroom for the rest of my career . Some people may wanted , wanted me to just stay in a classroom for the rest of my career .
Some people may want me to only speak . But I had to think about what does Jason want for himself or for myself ? And then , once I started to do that , all the pressure started to alleviate . I started to feel more relaxed . I could show up , even on the days that I didn't feel like it . I knew I was operating in my purpose .
So think about what is it that you want to do ? What is it that you're being called to do ? What are some of the roadblocks that are stopping you from showing up as your full self ? How can you eliminate those things or those people from your life so that you can live and be within your purpose ? So that you can live and be within your purpose ?
Y'all this is that what some people call heart work , because it's deeper than just something that you can do on the surface .
It takes time , it takes energy and it takes a lot of grit and confidence to say I'm going to push back on what you're saying and I'm going to follow my own heart , follow my own mind , follow my own passion , and I'm going to do it . Own heart , follow my own mind , follow my own passion and I'm going to do it , despite the anxiety .
Like , the anxiety may still be there , but I know at the end of the day , when I wake up and do everything throughout the day , when I lay my head down , I've done exactly what I am supposed to be doing . And when you operate from that sense of confidence and that sense of purpose , it's like things just start clicking .
Opportunities start coming to you , relationships start blossoming , your health starts to improve . But we don't always do it unless we feel compelled or typically when something goes terribly wrong and now we feel like I have to make a change . But I want to leave you with this Don't wait until things get that bad Like .
Start making changes now and set yourself up for your future , you know later . Don't wait until it's that bad . You have the aptitude , you have the tools to start living and operating in your purpose to the fullest day . All right , y'all Listen . I want to hear from you .
Let me know how it's going , what decisions you're making , what changes are you going to implement so that you can start to really show up as the true and authentic version of yourself ? All right , be blessed Peace .
