Paul Saladino MD podcast

Paul Saladino, MDpaulsaladinomd.com
Throughout my training and practice as a physician I have come to one very disappointing conclusion: Western medicine isn’t helping people lead better lives. Now that I’ve realized this, I’ve become obsessed with understanding what makes us healthy or ill. I want to live the best life I can and I want to be able to share this knowledge with others so that they can do the same. This podcast is the result of my relentless search to understand the roots of chronic disease. I hope you’ll join me on this journey.

Controversial Thoughts: Should you include dairy on your Animal-Based diet?

In short, yes (as long as you tolerate it)! Milk, yogurt, butter, ghee and colostrum are amazing sources of nutrients that have been highly valued by many indigenous groups for millenia. Dairy has a long tradition in Northern Europe, and among hunter-gatherer groups like the Maasai, or historically among groups like the Mongols (think warriors whose diets were basically milk, meat, and organs). Dairy isn’t for everyone, and some may have issues with lactose (a deficiency on the lactase enzyme), ...

Controversial Thoughts: Think red meat causes cancer? Think again! The full breakdown with Ivor Cummins

I get the “doesn’t red meat cause cancer” question ALL. THE. TIME. What better way to address it yet again (there’s a whole chapter about in my book, The Carnivore Code), than with my man, Ivor (see multiple previous podcasts including a recent debunk of the COVID response- Fundamental Health). In this extra nutrient dense edition of controversial thoughts we address the WHO (looking mighty sketch these days), TMAO, neu5gc, and much more about how we’ve been misled regarding meat and cancer. Controversial Thoughts: Dry Tinder, Assessing the true impact of COVID

Is it time to get scared of COVID, or is the media just back on the hysteria train? Remember 6 months ago when everyone was trashing Sweden for their coronavirus response? Well guess what, they are looking pretty good right now despite having essentially no lockdowns or other measures in place. In this Controversial Thoughts video I discuss the concept of “dry tinder”, or the amount of any population that is most frail, elderly, and susceptible to illness and how this relates to the impact of CO...

Controversial Thoughts: The COVID vaccine will not save you from the true pandemic!

Will an mRNA vaccine save us from COVID? Doubt it, and it certainly won’t save us from the massive amount of metabolic dysfunction that is driving severe COVID outcomes. In this Controversial Thoughts episode I describe recent research with both vaccines (Moderna/Pfizer), what looks good, things we still don’t know, and major potential problems possible in the future. How do you fix metabolic dysfunction? Listen until the end of the video in which I describe a striking interventional study with ...

Controversial Thoughts - BONUS

If you missed yesterday's controversial thoughts podcast/video, you might also want to check that one out. I had a few ideas I wanted to discuss on COVID after I finished recording and knew I had to do another. The concept of "long COVID" is increasingly discussed today, but I'm not convinced this is anything new. First, it was "healthy" people (sadly) suffering from COVID who were obese or likely had metabolic dysfunction, and I think it's the same issue now. The majority of those with underlyi...

If you are curious about connections between metabolic dysfunction and the strength of your immune system but don't have time to listen to this video you disappoint me! 🤣 JK! But you should listen to this one and share it with someone in your life who is obese (and likely pre-diabetic) who doesn't think they are at risk of a bad COVID outcome, or maybe they are terrified but don't know what they can do about it other than cowering in their homes and continue eating junk. Nothing changes without...

Controversial Thoughts: Which Plants are Most/Least Toxic?

Last week’s Controversial Thoughts was on The Carnivore Diet for Beginners. This week, I wanted to discuss the spectrum of plant toxicity a bit more. Thinking about this from the perspective of plants makes it a whole lot easier. Plants don’t want their seeds (nuts, grains, seeds, legumes), leaves, stems, or roots eaten. Avoid these foods while focusing on the least toxic parts of plants (fruit- sweet and non-sweet) while making meat and organs the centerpiece of your diet and you will thrive. #...

Controversial Thoughts: Why Epidemiology Is So Misleading and more on PUFA.

The number of ways that observational epidemiology is misinterpreted never ceases to amaze me. I wanted to make a video about this and truly explain in detail healthy user bias and unhealthy user bias, as well as why these two things can be such fatal confounders in this type of study. By contrasting epidemiology from the West and East, this becomes more apparent, and studies done on the UK cohort in this video illustrate that epidemiology seems to be telling us more about how beneficial healthy...

Controversial Thoughts: When high cholesterol is GOOD!

Is high cholesterol always a bad thing? I say no! Context matters greatly here, as in are you metabolically healthy? Do you know how to assay this? Many people eating an ancestral type diet like carnivore, carnivore-ish, keto, paleo, etc. (like me!) will see LDL rise, but I don't believe this is a bad thing if we are insulin sensitive/metabolically healthy- this is the importance of context. I discuss the importance of considering context in discussions of LDL, Lp (a), uric acid, and APOE4 in th...

Do the Hadza really consume 100g of fiber per day? Do we really know what a healthy gut microbiome is? Doubt it!
