We are really excited about this episode with our guest expert Rob Allison( LPC). Rob owns a solo practice in Denver, CO and works primarily with men that who are feeling stuck, are self critical and experience anxiety, depression, and anger. He is here today to talk to us about how to be a healthy balanced man, father, and role model.
Many of us have heard the term toxic masculinity (the cultural pressures for men to behave in a certain way, rigidity to old gender roles), but what does that mean for men these days?
As we dive into the roles of men we discuss: being a stay at home dad, and the conflict that creates, paternity leave - should you take it or not , feeling including in family dynamics, expressing emotions and feelings and not covering them up with anger, frustration, and irritability.
- We talk about the gender differences and expectations for boys v. girls. Gender stereotypes and how crying is looked at in boys, the role social media is now playing in gender roles with kids.
- Rob shares some great tips for the women on how to best support their man to be the best man, father, and role model for their kids.
- And lots of great tips and suggestions for fathers on role modeling healthy emotional intelligence and how to best support their boys.
