Hi, this is Brett Johnson, owner of Circle270Media Podcast Consultants and your host for Note To Future Me. We are always looking for opportunities to increase our listenership for our podcasts, aren't we? And I think we tend to forget to encourage our current listener base to be our advocates, to get other listeners, to get more listeners to your podcast. We've come up with eight small steps to help you support your podcast without spending a dime, without relying on cash to get the job done.
Which in essence, we've not seen work very well. Organic growth is the strongest growth. Why not utilize your current listenership, even if it's just one listener, 1000 listeners, 10000 listeners? If you can invigorate that current base that you have to do more for you, then your podcast is going to see some growth. First of all, encourage a sign up for your newsletter. If you haven't started a newsletter yet, do so as soon as possible.
Encourage your listeners to sign up for the newsletter, for your podcast. That in itself has many nuances in regards to why you'd want to start a newsletter. What's in the newsletter that's such an incentive that they are willing to see it come from you on a weekly basis, a biweekly basis, a monthly basis, depending on your cadence of your podcast. But make those decisions. Create a newsletter that your listeners are starving for. Ask them to write reviews and give feedback on your podcast.
And I'm not meaning inside of Apple Podcasts. I'm meaning reviews on your website, reviews on Google My Business. We've been experimenting with creating a Google My Business page for our podcasters and encouraging reviews on Google My Business. So it has the Google Play. Try that. Give that an opportunity to help you grow and get exposure for your podcast outside of the podcast ecosystem. Make sure that you encourage them to follow you on social media.
And not just follow, but also share your posts and like those posts, encouraging them to follow, share and like is not just posting, "Hi, I have a new episode out. Please, like, please listen, please follow my podcast." You need to have some strategy in regards to putting those posts together on social media that encourages the click through, the share, the like. And that will also lead to the comments on your posts in regards to "Listen to this episode. Love it. Please listen to it as well.
I got a lot out of this." That's going to lead to tagging friends in your social media feed. When your core listeners get something out of those episodes, they're going to tag friends to listen to the episode as well. And also with those posts. This is the ultimate level of your advocates, your core listeners, really getting into your podcast. They're going to show friends on social media how each episode has helped them in their posts.
So again, encourage to sign up for the newsletter, encourage reviews outside of the podcast ecosystem, encourage follows shares, likes comments. And the big thing is to get them to show friends how your podcast has helped them. Be sure to sign up for my free Open The Mic newsletter. You can sign up at circle 270 media dot com.
