Episode description

Where does the time go?  You know, that time you’ve been scrolling aimlessly through social media keeping up with Susan who just posted a new profile picture or the countless emails you flagged to revisit when you have time, or the random walks to the fridge in the office to look for a snack or better yet, more time? We’re all guilty of it and as technology advances, our attention is the number one thing under attack by the second, minute, hour, and day as we are bombarded with countless notifications, interruptions, and bullsh#t that make us less productive.

The average person only gets about 6 hours of work done per day.  A common theme for many people is how to maintain focus and productivity. Last week, Producer Andre’ asked a few questions in our Facebook Group and one that stood out was:

“How do you maintain focus?”

Today, Steve Taylor, Jason Graybeal, and Producer Andre’ share how they each do battle with maintaining focus. Andre’ shares his high diagnosis of ADHD at 21 years of age, and what he does daily to keep himself focused. Steve and Jason deep dive into the impact of distractions and how it affects productivity in their personal lives and at work. Jason breaks down the importance of managing your time well as Steve chimes in on what activities are costing you hundreds if not thousands of dollars simply by not setting rules for yourself.

What You’ll Learn:

    • Why getting control over your focus starts with limiting distractions
    • How to limit distractions at home and at work
    • The impact that being distracted has on your work performance and the cost to business when you can’t focus
    • 3 Things Andre does to keep himself on track hour by hour every single day
    • The number one concern Jason has with his children as they mature
    • Time buckets and how not focusing on the right activities will take money out of all of them
    • Why Jason hires a lawn guy and the practical reasoning behind it
    • How to create 2 days in one day and the schedule you should follow
    • When to know you’re most productive and how to leverage it to your benefit
    • Structuring your day and how to hold yourself accountable
    • Why turning off your phone is a good thing to do daily
    • Time blocking
    • 25-30 minutes is the maximum amount of time a human being can focus on one thing
    • How to break out of distractions with maximum impact
  • And much more!

“The way I describe my mind is if you have your computer open and you have 30 tabs up and you’re clicking between all of them and you’re not doing anything on each page, but you’re hammering through all the tabs……click, click, click, click, click…..that’s what it’s like all day in my head.

Without structure and lining my day out the day before and lining my week out, the week before, I’m not as productive as I could be.  Having structure and bullet-pointing my day out almost by the hour is the number one way that I stay focused.”

-Producer Andre’ Allison
