Episode description

Today, a major result in Quantum Computing was published in Nature. Google has reported its achievement of Quantum Supremacy, the term given to the point where a quantum processor can outperform any classical supercomputer at a specific task. The theoretical backbone of Google's quantum supremacy protocol has been developed over many many years. In this episode of the podcast we are joined by researchers who have been intimately involved in the development of these computational protocols. Joining us today is Ashley Montenaro from the University of Bristol, Michael Bremner from the University of Technology Sydney and Ryan Mann from the University of Bristol. We discuss the evolution of the theoretical work that has underpinned the Google experiment, the result itself and what hopefully comes next.
