Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to Malik's Bookshow, bringing a world together with books, culture, and community. Hi, my name is Malik Mohammed, your host of Malik's Bookshow. Where we on episode eight teen. WHOA

And this has been a journey. But I'm on episode eighteen, and I'm gonna be talking about the podcast Movement Evolution Conference that I attended this weekend. It was a great conference. I learned a lot and I'm gonna share what I learned and my thoughts about this conference. I have some community events coming up at Belief Books I'm gonna share with you for the month of April, and I'm going to be talking about when it Rains, It pours. When it rains, it pours, and I think you'll find that

segment very intriguing and inspirational. My book review for this episode is The Supplime Art of Not Giving An F by Mark Manson. Now you can fill in those other three little words and know when I mentioned F we this book as a treaty and you don't want to miss this book review, So sit back and enjoy my new episode eighteen, the Growth and Evolution of Releak's Bookshelf.

This has been an eventful week. I spent this week attending a conference called the Podcast Movement Evolutions, and it was enlightening and formative, and these panels discussions had a

lot to offer. I went down there with the intentions just wanted to learn more about the podcast business, how to be more enlightening and understand the business of podcasting, Understand what I can do to be better, understand um what improvements that I could incorporate, and learn about monetization as well as growing your audience and how to make great content. I wanted to find them more about, you know,

audio equipment. Wasn't too much hardware available down there, but that was one of the things I wanted to, you know, find more about simply because um, I want to know more about this industry, both in front of the scenes and behind the scenes. You know, when you ain't get involved, When you get involved in a industry or a business or any endeavor, you should want to learn as much as you can to improve as much as you can. And that's what I want to do. I want to

get better at this. I'm enjoying making my episodes, but how do I make my Bleak's bookshelf bigger, better, and greater. So that's was my intention. And I think that I found some tidbits that I can use in order to grow my audience and improve upon what I'm doing and make bigger and better content. And that's what it's all about. And you know, if you listen to any of my episodes,

and this is the eighteenth episode. And since I intended this conference, I figured I'll talk about what I learned about the podcast business while I attended the Podcast Movement Evolutions Conference. Now, um, there are people there that I was able to talk to personally and get, um, some one on one information. And then there were people there that gave me information their wrong panels and discussions. Um,

what intriguing me is about, Hey, cross promotions. How do you go about you know, how do you go about cross promoting um Malik's bookshelf and some other type of brand. It's a good fit because I like, like, like what I do is book reviews, right, so why not trying to cross promote with publishers. Um. I think that that's a step in the right direction. UM. I think I have to grow my audience. I have to improve my production. I have to get more season All of those are

a factor because you're doing. The more you do it, the better you get. But I'll tell you this is that I jumped off the cliff when I started Relief's book show. I didn't know much about the podcast. I didn't know what I was doing. Um, I had an anxiety.

But here's the thing. A lot of times, and that's what they touched on down there about people who in the podcast who want to start podcasts or started podcasting only did a few episodes and quitted, or people just sitting around talking about wanting to do a podcast and never get started. Well, hey, I jumped off the cliff with Malief's Bookshelf Bringing a World Together with Books Coaching incomment, I jumped off the cliff, hey, and I got that

engine started. And once you get that inje started. And once you get that passion and once you get that drive, once you get that excitement, you just keep going for and forth. You can't get discouraged. You know, when you start a podcast or when you start you at ground zero anyway, So the question is how to grow, how to how to evolve your audience and find out you know, what works and what doesn't work. And that's some of the things that I thought. What that I need to

be aware of? Okay, what's working on release bookshelf? What's work? What am I doing that? I know every episode my audience enjoys. Um, what's not working all right? And what how to make this better? So hey, they filled my head up with lots of ideas, lots of things to look at, but I jumped off the cliff and Beleik's bookshelf is streaming every week. I try to keep it un in thirty minutes. Um. But you know, I need to do more email marketing campaigns. Maybe develop a newsletter, um,

set up a Instagram page instead of releek books. Um, you know, find and I need to find places where it's the right audience and market that audience. Understand data and downloads, you know all of that. I don't know, my mom, it's about that. But they say that you should be very involved and engaged in the data because that's the only It's like, you know, you need to know that your Democrats. You need to know what's going on because so that you can make adjustments and so forth.

And so that a lot of the pounds they really drove home understanding data and um, you know, I probably need to develop a website. From Leek's Bookshelf's on website, I don't know, but I think that, And it says, you know, study other podcasts, studies, research your competitors. On top of that, I really am intrigued about approaching publishers at some point because I really think that, you know, when I do my book reviews, what I try to books that I have interest in, but more importantly I

can relate to. That's kind of how I do my book reviews. I don't just like do a book review and just talk about the book. I like to throw in a personal relationship because I feel like that's what engages people. I think having a podcast, you gotta learn how to engage people, um you know, And so I try to make my book reviews somewhat interesting with a personal touch in a book that I think that the

public should engage with. Some marketing strategies joining Facebook groups, they say, don't spend a whole lot of time, but a few groups could be beneficial to write groups as well. But one thing that there's one young lady talked about and I'm so guilty of it, was the fact that she said, don't just market uh episode seventeen is out. They said, people usually scroll right by that. Make it

something engaging, and then make any interest their curiosity. Use more of the title if you want to know more about the title, you know, like my last episode books not bullets. Make it more and engaging and enticing. Just say episodes all that's a parler, let me move forward.

I was like, oh, man, I think I'm guilty of that because I do be just saying that's so I need to find more of a strategic way to engage my audience when I'm marketing what I'm saying, um, instead of just go listening to certain things sixteen or whatever. So I think that that was some good tips. I think that that's some good things that I can do, um and make it entertaining, making fun, that's what you know. I like to keep it live for literature and live

for's hot. You know. I want to make it entertaining. But I'm not an entertainer. I'm learning how to do certain things. I'm learning this on a fly. This has all been a learning experience and I Heeart Radio has helped me on this journey. And UM, you know, so I'm I'm very engaged. I'm you know, I'm very energetic

about this. UM. This conference got my juices flowing. And I just thought it was a good idea to attend, because I think anything that you go into you should want to do it the best you can and and and be engaging and involved, um as much as you can. UM, this is work. Let me tell you. Let me tell you running a business, being a father, being a husband, and during events. You know, we launched our book mobile and then I got to wove in the podcast, and I do the social media posts and all of these

things are a time consume me, very time consume me. UM. A day for me is like six seven. I start most social media postings, UM, get the kids ready for school. UM. Then you know, go to work, work on marketing strategies and campaigns, emails, run the front office and the back office of the business. And then I gotta figure out time. I gotta make this podcast. I gotta think of my creative juices. I gotta figure out what the title is I gotta figure out what I want to talk about.

I gotta figure out, you know, how to do this book reviewing? What should I talk about all of this? So hey, day start six seven in the morning and I'm usually you know, eleven and midnight, um, and then the day started all over again. UM. And I don't mind doing that because it when when you want to do something and you want to do it well, it tastes time and it involved and you have to be involved. Nothing is made in an instant or micro way. Everything

is built over time and patience. And then the podcast and they say, hey, now, don't get discouraged, you know, don't be patient and do at least a minimum a hundred episodes before you make you need to see you know. That's what they said. Um, this has been an eye opener and it's been an experience and you know, this journey. Um, it's a blessing that was brought to me through UM. I heart radio, Royan Seacrest, his production team, all of these people made this a reality. And I feel fortunate.

I'm beyond I feel lucky because I heard some of the stories down here, you know. So I'm started with a team you know, Relise Bookshelf started with a team and started with some experience, people behind the scenes and and guidance. A lot of people ain't Donna have no guidance, and you know, and I have a great platform is on I Heart Radio that one of the leaders or if not the leader in podcast radio, streaming whatever you know, and the icon such as Ron Secret his top rank

flagship producing production team. You know, I can't feel nothing but fortunate and blessed that Belise Bookshelf, which is a diverse podcast. But at the same time, when I do book reviews, I do book reviews on me any voices that are just not black or indigenous. But a good book is a good book. And this episode, I'm featuring a book, you know, The Sublime Art of Not Giving a f You can figure out the other three Letters by Mark Manson. So that book is a great book.

And it's not a book that uh is based upon and around race, but it's based upon, you know, helpful information that can help people change their lives and deal with whatever is in front of them, because some things are just what f up? And there's nothing you can do about it, but you can move forward and to deal with it and challenge yourself and go forward and overcome and not let things like that effect your progress and your success because things are just what aft up.

It ain't nothing you can do about it. So back to the podcast, Movement Evolution Conference. Like I said, this was a learning experience, a great experience, and I just wanted to share what I got out of the conference, and so that's what this episode is all about. Growth. Hey, I got some deep drive time thoughts that I just want to dictate on my podcast. What's come to mind

is when it rains, it pours. When it rains, it pours, and that's what it's heavy on my mind and heart simply because you know, most of the time in the public we show our best self, we show a side of us that we want the world to see. But here's the thing. The reality is that we all got personal things that we got to deal with, we got to overcome. I'm no exception. I do a good job hiding some of the things that are heavy on my mind and heart because they're personal and their private. But

when it rains, it pours. But I know one thing for certain, the rain do stop sooner or later. And we enjoyed the unshine, and that's keeps me, you know, in the light for a better day, for a better tomorrow. But these obstacles or these situations that happened to all of us that are personal, we have to deal with them. And if you don't deal with them, they could be

adverse consequences, to be honest, emotionally, mentally, physically, financially. But when it rains, it pulls, and you got to overcome them. So I'm I'm personally going through some challenges, some things that in my personal life that I have to overcome. But what don't kill you make you stronger. And you know, whatever I can complain about what I'm one thing that I've learned earned in life is someone else it's going through it even worse. You know, someone else is going

through it even worse. So you're not alone. You're not alone. You know, life it's just you know, it's those high points and then those low points. So when it rains, it pulls, and I'm gonna get through this. I'm gonna overcome this um and I gotta make the right call and I gotta make the right decisions. And that's what required And you know a lot of times I'm up tempo. Don't mean that I'm not dealing with issues. I'm not dealing with things, but hey, you know that's just part

of life. And uh, but my encouragement is that when it rains, it pulls, that you find a way to overcome it and wait for the clouds to disperse and the sun to shine, and you overcome whatever it is that you got to address and let the sun shine on you because a better tomorrow is coming, a better day is coming. And that's what every day I'm welcome the challenge to change whatever it is that I got to deal with because I'm no different than anyone else.

All of us have to go through something and all of us have to deal with it whether we like it or not. And sometimes it's just the patience and the time that you got to go through in order to deal with it. I'm no exception. So when you're going through the storm, because life is nothing but different storms,

and they have different grades. You know how to get those ratings on the hurricane, Well, hey, these so many situations are you know, rated one, rated two, and you know the fifth is when the hurricane the hurricane five is like that's the highest rating the winds and the storms and the all the knocking down buildings and trees and uprooting the houses and what have you, and it's deadly. Well, hey, that's life. That's life. But you got to deal with

and overcoming. So let's look forward to a better day or the better tomorrow. Let the sun shine, because no matter what's going on, there's a time for peace, and there's a time for war, but there's a time for peace. You see what I'm saying. That's just another cliche. Are saying. Hey, you know, it's a better day coming, and it's peace coming. So when it rains, it pours, but the sun eventually

shines and come out. So let's you know, all whatever you're dealing with in your life, the sun is coming. The sun is coming, and I'm excited about the sun coming, so you should be too. So that's my thoughts. That's my dry time thoughts. Have a good day, peace, Thanks

My book review for this episode I touched on it a little bit. Last episode. He helped Will Smith write this book. Will he has three books out, but the one that has taken the winds and become internationally best seller as well as the domestic best seller

and sold millions of copies. The Sublime Art of Not Giving un F by Mark Manson the counter intuitive approach to living a good life. And so that's the book that I touched, want to touch on and review. That title alone is explosive and controversial. It grabs people's attention. It's a book that you end up just not walking by, but picking up just on the title alone, The Sublime Art of Not Giving a F. Now, I'm saying FL but you know what that word means got three other

letters associated with it. This pool right here is real and relatable. And what I like about this book is the fact that sometimes you got to let go. Sometimes you got to let go you. Sometimes you can't be concerned about how other people feel or stop trying to figure out why a person did what they did. Sometimes you gotta just not give up F so that you can move forward and move on. And that's what this book is all about, is letting go and not given an F so that you can make progress, that you

can move forward, that you can overcome. You know, in life, we all were emotional human beings and we get attached to things, and sometimes it's to our detriment. How many there's a lot of families that have loved ones that are addicts and you care about them, and it could be consuming in terms of how you relate uh your relationship that is with your loved one who's an adding And everybody deals with it differently, and there's no right

or wrong. People say, oh, you're codependent. If you help you get all of these different you get pulled in different directions. How to deal with that because everybody deal with a different Some people who just turn and move in a different direction and not look back. And some people grieve hard because their loved one is an attic and they don't know how to not help them in the best way. And you know, it's like you give a cat milk, Well, it's gonna come back again and

again and again and again. People have to learn to be dependent on themselves, although we all are intertwined and we depend on each other to do our daily bread. But at the same time, you know, you gotta stand on your own two feet, and when things happen in your life, you got to get to a point where you gotta say enough is enough and cut the cord. That's what this book is about, the sublime art of

not giving it. It's cut the cord, on baggage, on garbage, on things that are emotionally affecting you in a negative way. Sometimes just embrace that there are things in life, like Mark Masson said, that are f up and you need to embrace it. It's f up. It is nothing you can do about it. Nothing then nothing, nothing, and all it does is give your grief, strife and heart ache.

So hey, the sublime art are not given an F by Mark Madison, A counter intuitive approach to living a good life is helping you the process and to move forward and a brace what it is that you have to deal with and just don't give up f at some point, don't I don't mean not be compassionate. That don't mean you know, not addressed that in a way that you can handle it, in process it in a way where is more you know, acceptable. But you gotta move forward, and you gotta cut the cord when it

needs to be cut. So that's my book review for this episode. Thanks for listening to Malik's book show Bringing a world together with books, culture and community. Thanks for listening be show to subscribe and leave me a review. Check out my instagram at the Leek Books. See you next time.
