Chad. They have out of bunks that the whole wild world. One up, Bread Milague Buns. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to Malik's Bookshelf, bringing a world together with books, culture and community. Hi, my name is Malik, your host of Malik's Bookshelf. Well, hey, I'm getting back to Malik. I'm getting back to myself. I'm getting back each and every day because I've been going through a storm, but I'm coming back and I'm

gonna come back even stronger. This is the seventy sixth episode, and I'm excited to bring to you some community events that's taking place July twenty fifth, Rock the Lot in August fifth Back to School Festival at Krinshaw High So I go into details on this episode, so stay tuned for that. I'm also doing a book review by the great TD Jakes, the prolific TD Jakes, the stadium filler tdj ain't but a handful of people can sell out stadiums,

and TD James is one of them. I mean, if you're not an entertainer, meaning you're not singing a song, playing a ball. You know, if you're not doing something sporting, playing entertainment. TD jas is not an entertainer. TD Jakes is a man filled with the Word of God. You can't fill out stadiums like that unless you just we're preaching, unless you are anointed with the word of God. Because hey, I only see sports and entertainment out fifty sixty seventy

eighty thousand people in the stand. This is a preacher speaking the word of God. So I got to give him his respect, his flowers because this brother has been doing this for decades, given instructions and information and guidance

and offering the word of God. Now I don't agree with everything that come out of tdj mouth, but hey, you don't have to agree with everything to identify with someone this anointed that's got good information, that has important information that can help you make a difference in a change on in your life. But to utilizer may to help other people and serving other people. So I got to give him his flowers because this brother is anointed. And let me say that this new book is called

Disruptive Thinking. So I'm doing a book review and I'm highlighting that book because there's a lot of trauma, a lot of disrupted thinking the community, and we got to change the way we think in order to elevate our life. So that book is a good starter for a present who looking to change. So that's gonna be my book review on this episode. And I'm also gonna be talking about some inspiration something that I just thought of that I thought, you know, small steps, big games, you know.

So I'm thinking about like little things that you can do to just make a huge impact in your life. So small bites is what it's called. So you got to stay tuned for that. So this is episode seventy six, can you believe it? Seventy six? And last week I did my seventy fifth and that was a special one because it was on my mother, who I loved dearly. So I featured my thoughts about this tremendous experience that

I've been going through since her passing. I also featured the words of reflection at the funeral that me, my brother, and my sister said at the funeral. The celebration of life services is what we hosted, and so I featured those comments of reflection on the last episode, the seventy

fifth episode. So that was a real special and then tim out at seventy fifth, that's I thought was like, not coincidental, but a milestone because you know, twenty five, the fiftieth, the seventy fifth is huge, and last week was my seventy fifth and someone that is so dear and special and loving I was able to feature on that. I didn't you know, it wasn't planned out, but you know, sometimes God in the timing is all in line, because

there ain't no coincidence. So for that to end up the seventy fifth, my reflection, my comments and my experience going through this process of learning about this celebration of life and my mom and our legacy and all the different people stepped up and helped out. But moving on, because you can go back and listen there if you want to. But this is episode seventy six, so I

hope you enjoy it. Thank you. What's happening in the community, Well, let me tell you what's happening in the community, because July twenty fifth, twenty twenty three, Rock the Block will be taking place in Los Angeles on fifty fourth Street between fourth and seventh Avenue. This is a community event. We're gonna Rock the Block Hey, we bringing out the book mobile. Oh, that's right. They contracted us to bring out the bookmobile. So it's gonna be a huge children's pavilion.

There's gonna be singing and conversation, and of course there's gonna be a lot of things for adults, community activities. So you gotta come on out Rocked Up Block on fifty fourth Street between fourth and seventh Avenue. It's really no address because it's a street festival, so I'm telling you how to get there. This is what's going down July twenty fifth, and it starts around eleven o'clock. Yes, it starts around it's like eleven to five on July

twenty fifth, So you gotta go on our community. It's summer time, that's right. So hey, this is a time where we what be outside. We bond, we fellowship, we part, we discuss and talk and elevate. It's the community and that's what it's all about. Rocked Up Block, that's right coming up this Saturday, July twenty fourth. And then guess what we got the Back to School Festival taking place August fifth, twenty twenty three. That's right, August fifth, twenty

twenty three at Princeyall High School. We take it over Crenshall High School. It's bigger than us as a nonprofit organization that's doing tremendous amount of good in the hood. And guess what. This is their fourth annual back to School event which is gonna take place on the football field at Crenshall High School this August fifth. Give it out five thousand backpacks for our youth in the community. That's right. You gotta run it. Do you got a register?

But let me tell you this. Malague Books is hosting the book fair at the back to school and we'll give it out two thousand bunks. That's right, two thousand books. It's going down at the Back to School Festival at Krinshaw High School. Five thousand back free backpacks. Two thousand books are giving out at this event. Looks this is a health pavilion, this is a children's zone, a teacher zone. We have community politicians. It is going down. This is

gonna be used. I'm talking about thousands and thousands. Last year, I bear witness there was at least five to six thousand people that came out because every community activist, politician this in that community. Resources that are gonna be provided a sports and road body bion. You gonna have to come on out August fifth, that's right, at eleven to six. We got a concert going down. All of that is taking place. But I'm excited because I got the host.

I'm hosting the book festival at the Back to School Festival, I'm hosting the book The book mobil is going to be brought out. That's right. And we let me tell you what we got lined up. We got nine authors lined up, but we're giving out the books free to the community. That's right. We're giving two thousand books. And the authors they are signing books. That's right, speaking about their books. But they also these books are free. So we got a lot of good in the hood taking place.

I don't need to go down the line of the nine artists because it's a surprise. You got to come on out, get your free book, get an author sign and your Well, that's the kind of event this is gonna be. We got about fifty schools is gonna be out here teaching you, giving you information about what's taking place in a lot of these schools in Los Angeles that offer a lot of resources for the community. You gotta take advantage because when people say the community it is,

it's underserved. It is. But guess what, there's still a lot of resources that you might not be aware that can assist you as you try to navigate success in the Los Angeles community. So come on out to Krinshaw High School August fifth for the Bactor School Festival featuring five thousand backpacks. They'll be given out to the community free and two thousand bucks given out to the community freight. So come on out and party with us, laugh with us,

talk with us, discuss with us, dance with us. All right, see you August fifth at Krisshaw High.

How do you deal with an overwhelming schedule and many demands that make you overwhelmed, Well, let me give you some advice. One bite at a time, meaning work on your task, one task at a time. That's how you would do it. If you had to eat an elephant, which is huge, you would eat it one bite at a time. See, don't look at the whole project, look at it at each stage, each step, each objective, first, then eventually, over time, the task or the completion will

take place. But it's just one step at a time, one bite at a time, one moment at a time. That's how you deal with an issue. This overwhelmed me because sometimes you look at the all the tasks all at once or the situation all at once, and they can bring anxiety and being overwhelmed. So these are the strategy and techniques I utilize in order to overcome a big goal or task just before me, you know, or you know, I just got to reduce it to one step,

one byte at a time. So that's kind of what I was trying to look small steps, big games, That's what this is all about. I just was sitting here thinking about something a viable too that someone can implement in their life that causes anxiety because they're overwhelmed, or they look at a situation and they don't know where to begin, and oftentimes that cause procrastination because you're looking at the whole umbrella of things that you gotta do.

So I was just sitting here saying what advice can I give my podcast, and it was came to me and said, one body at a time, that's that's what I do when I'm faced with a tremendous task that I need to meet or deadline, I just get started. Just get started, And if I meet the deadline, great, If I don't, I'm least closer than if I didn't start. So that's how you got to look at sometimes things in life, like things don't happen just overnight, but they

are clumative over time. You know, it's old saying when I was growing up, called Rome wasn't built in a day? Well what does that mean? Meaning everything that was glorious about ancient Rome did not happen overnight. It happened over decades and centuries, so a long period of time. You know. It's just like a construction job, or you know, when they're building a building, they start with the foundation for no, actually they start with blueprints. Actually they start with thinking

about it, drawing up blueprints. And then after things are approved through the city council or the government or whatever regulation they have to go through to get the plans approved, then they start organizing all the equipment, supplies, the labor, and all of these different things before they start on the project. And then they have to create a timeline, a calendar. So that's how you approach things. You got to just approach it in the logical mathematic. But you

gotta start. That's the key. You gotta start. If you don't start, it won't nothing will never get finished. And that's what I found with a lot of people is that they never start. Now, a lot of people start and just don't finish. But at least you get credit for starting, but learn how to finish things. But I'll tell you that if you don't start, you won't finish nothing. So it's one bite, one step at a time. That is my motivation for this episode of Malik's Bookshelf, Bringing

a World Together with Books, Culture and Community. My book review for this episode on the League's Bookshelf Bringing a World Together with Books, Culture and Community. It's the iconic TD Jakes who wrote the book, his new book, Disruptive Thinking. Now, let me tell you something about this book, because TD Jakes has sold out stadiums all over this nation. He is one of the most prolific ministers in the world. But he understands that a lot of lack of progress

is because we got a disruptive thinking going on. So he wrote a book, a daring strategy to change how we live, lead, and love.

Speaker 2

So I'm excited to do a book review on his new book, Disruptive Thinking, because we need to think differently and find the courage to challenge the status quo with tools to create meaningful changes.

Speaker 1

Tdj's new book, Disruptive Thinking is for leaders, thinkers, doers, and creators. This book illuminates the path to encouraging and unleashing disruptive thinking and provides the wisdom and practical skills we need to evolve our most original and potential trans for me ideas from vision to reality. Through his insight into how our minds and emotions work, and through his experience as a pastor, entrepreneur, and creator, Bishop Tdjakes leads us into a new way of relating to and transforming

the world around us for good. Disrupted Thinking will show you the mindset and the tools you need to create groundbreaking and meaningful change in your own life and in the world around you. Now, doesn't that sound like a good read?

Speaker 3
