Yeah, League Books has how the knowledge you want? Malik Books has how the knowledge you need? League Books. Yeah, they have all the books that the whole wide world want to read. Books. Who malie Bookshop? We inside the Milique Books and guess who is in Malieque Books today, Dawn Robinson. Well, let me tell you this brother is special. He wrote our jingle Maliks Books, jingle that you hear on the podcast when it first come on. This is a man. Even Ron ccrest and his producer said, whoa
that song is catching Malique Books. I got all the books I need Belique Books. If you want knowledge'll y'all gonna you know, Hey, I don't need this, brothers, but perform more of it, producer of it, And I got a Memblique Books to talk about that wonderful jingle he prepared, man, And it just told me something about I mean, it's just like you captured my soul and all the work I've done over the years, and it just made me
feel brother, did you knew me? You know? And you knew our quest in all the years of what we've done at the Malik Books, And so it was mind boggling, and it was all that you know a few minutes we spent that Molique books, so it's like man, but it also told me something about you, man, and told me something. Okay, you use books to change your life. Don't be a victim, brother, That's what that le you know. No excuses, no excuses. But talk to me, brother, How
did you brother? Why was you able to capture such a jingle? Did spoke to the heart and soul of Melikue books with you? When I was just in a mile with my hommy that day and we passed as by, and it was my first time I ever seen a black bookstore. I've never seen a black book So I've in a bookstores, know, Barns and Nobles, books a million and all that and other little mom in the pop bookstores, but I've never seen a black bookstore ran by a black man and just captivated me. And I started watching.
I mean you, we're taking a look at all the books that I saw, And honestly, I saw you through your creation of what you presented. It wasn't even hard to do. It was easy, Like it was right in front of me. I saw you through your work basically, if that makes sense, it does. I see what you how you cultivated it your story. That's a gift, though, man. Listen, I saw you. I saw you, I saw you. Every everybody can measure a man, measure his work and then
write a two three minute songs. They captured the spirit and the soul of my thirty I've been doing this in thirty years and in two minutes you spoke brother to my whole brother journey. Listen, I say, that's a say that's a gift. Is something I got just from songwriting and being an artist myself. So being able to storytell basically and take what I see and formulated into words in a short amount of time is I say, that's a gift of mind. But you know everybody right, yeah,
you are artists. I'm a artist, man, So yeah, I was able to do that. I couldn't have did it without you putting it out there for me to see it, if that makes sense. I couldn't have made it happen without you. So you put the work, You laid the foundation for me to just tell what I saw. That's all. It was simply and I preach and it was just on a home that you came in the store and we were just passing by. Man, and my homie likes to read, and he just came and checked it out.
You know, I wasn't even really big on reading like that, to be honest. When I first met you, I had a couple of books in my arsenal that I dialble with. But over the course of that journey, I have to meeting you and seeing what you had going on. And I did understand that I would do myself a disservice if I didn't take the time to pick up more books that I already had, go on my journey and
try to better myself. Man like you inspired me, and I honestly that's that's a guy on this Man, You're inspired, That's what's up. That's what definitely what your music, brother, that you perform for Mileek Books inspiring, and they tried a lot of compliments. We have it on our intro the Mileek Books shelf. We have it on our when we put people on call here in Mileek Books. Okay, that's okay. Man, you're a rapper, you're a producer. You know,
you a photographer. Man, what else do you do? Man? Videos? And I did the video for you, So I just created that, well revamped this brand that you see right here free through free fuel. Yes, sir, you know I have, but I brought your shirt. But I revamped the brand since then, trying to find myself. When I met you, I kind of know who I am now. What you mean free few it's uh, it's basically enlightening yourself, being true to yourself, simply put. But I can go into
details and it's different little journeys on that path. Man. It ain't personal. It's really personal, but it's it's worldwide. It's worldwide. It's a brand that I created a long time ago. It started off as something as a tag to go with the artistry, you know, like your brand and everything. But freedom was always my thing. I'm always on the search for freedom, and I didn't understand that freedom came with discovering who you are as a person. Yes,
you're finding your purpose. I know my purpose now. That wings what you flying with? So I was fascinated with birds and eagles and and anything that kind of just soar the sky. That's the most ultimate idea of freedom to me, just being able to fly sword right. So wings and birds kind of formulated the little logo didn't even start off like this. This is like evolved. This is the latest evolution of free fuged logo right now. It may change a little later, but right now, this
is what I got you. So but birds is kind of like what I I and you know admire how free day are is nothing around them but when underneath them. So yeah, that's the ultimate sign of limit, right there. Man. And we got to rise up. And that's what that's the jingle you made. It's about elevation, rising up, not
being a victim. Being a victim. I mean you just man, went into the soul of Leaks and that short period of time when you came in and did the video video the store, got a few interviews with me and then you put together this two minute video and um as a result, um, and then you came up with the jingle. We're gonna make that into a music. We all got to make that into a music, man. Yeah, we've been talking about it for a while. We gotta
make that happy happen. And I would love for you to tell me more about you know you and the things you're doing, and you know what you got in store for you know, the future with some of your goals. Right Oh, that's not even hard, man, I tell you, I formulated my path. Now I see myself. When I first met you, I was still in discovery mode, trying to find myself. You know, I'm a photographer, I'm a videographer, I'm a rapper. I saw right, I'm trying to get
signed and all these things. But I realized that without knowing my direction, I don't even know where I'm going. So I said, I ain't a lot. I couldn't do it without my old life. Man. She really talk mispradiation about loving myself, her old thing. Her whole thing is loving and self love, self care. She taught me. I've been doing backwards the whole time. Man, I've been trying to, you know, find my my resources outside myself. I've been trying to get somebody else to try to, you know,
help me get to where I'm trying to go. I've been looking for mentors and all these things and the answers within myself. And I didn't listen everybody say that. You know what I'm saying, Like you can put doing to cliche things, you can do anything and put your mind too, but until you honestly understand what that means, you'll never see it. I know what that means. Now, I know what that means. And it took meeting someone to give you that smart too. She was away with
me and I because I got a secret. You understand, we is that because of my secret. Man, you know my secret with April sheet Man meeting her, you know, it's like that's the glue, that's the love, and that's what I needed in order to get to what I needed to go. And together we make magic. Man, I ain't see it, So I got the secret. Yeah, yeah,
you gotta find your Yeah. Of course. She taught me how to love myself, and through doing that and discovering myself, I was able to get rid of a lot of things that I didn't even know was holding me back. Old triggers and things, things that made me react to certain way. Things I was holding onto that I never even knew I was holding on to it. And once I was able to, like, you know, get rid of those things, I started to see myself and knew what I was capable. And I always knew what I was
capable of. I know what I'm capable of, and the skies is a limit. And so frefuged mission is to get others to do the same thing. That's literally my mission get other people, individuals to understand themselves to basically make the world a better place. A lot of people talk that, man, but I know I could do it. I know I can do it. I believe it's start with its start with you. Once you change yourself, man, and then you can help others because now you know
what you know. It's like, how do you know to love? How to love somebody? To you? What first love you? Yes? You can't love externally? And learning love internally set man's skill set. You know it ain't it ain't simple. It doesn't work, man, that's doing that was probably some of the was it one of the hardest requires change? Oh my god, it was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. But every time that I unlocked a new level, I saw myself elevate. And this
has only been like a seven month process. Okay, six seven months, change can happen. Man. You stopped the self severn tadgingt and now you are building building blocks to create your future and also to move forward to help those in the community. But but but that's real though. But it started to change started with me first with books and and other things in my personal life, right,
you know. And you know, and that's what I love about one of about the Jingo, because you kind of touched on, you know, how eventually how books affected you. So I've always went to certain books to try to get some information because it's like, I'm seeing these people doing the things that I want to do. Right, So they write a book about it, and I might read that book, but I couldn't really understand what they were saying until I knew myself, like that's the God on
his truth. When I was able to get rid of those things that kind of was in my way and my own idea of what life was. Once I started seeing life of what it truly was, I was able to see their perspective. I go back and read that same book, have a totally different meaning from the first time I read it, totally different meaning. As you change words, change words, change the mean completely. You know. Come on, man,
I could be saying something to you. You might take it in a certain way, but I might say it and mean it a different way than how you took it. The way we communicate, man, is really key. That's what creates the drama a lot of times because we're not on the same page because words mean different things to different people, and so we first had the first established a framework. We have to first establish like okay, this means this in my understanding, so that we can understand
a lot of our conflicts. It's because of a lack of communication, because we on different pages as we communicate
with each other. Right, So if we want to be more effective, then we have to choose our words and under and at the same time, we have to understand the words when we're communicating something to someone because oftentimes it's just the conflict is simply they see, they hear a word, and they think of it in a certain way, and when you say the word, you mean it in a different way, and they create a misunderstanding, you know, And that's what in terms of conflict resolution may becoming
better communicator, this is what we have to do better at and more effective at. Because man, everybody got a definition for each word, right body, and this is true, and they are it's true. It's so true that when they see that word or the way they communicate what they mean is true and they're not wrong, but to somebody else, they're completely wrong. And when you try to communicate and it don't connect. That's where you get conflict that and that's what you get all the anger and frustration.
Your ego gets involved, You get triggered and inspirals down. You can't even you don't even care to understand what they're saying because you feel like you're not even being heard. Right. Once you learn to detach from from that, you take your ego away from that, You step back and you try to seek to understand that person in front of you. You're understand what they're saying might not even be what
they really mean. But if you seek that mean, and you'll understand and you'll be able to communicate with them, and y'all be able to formulate something beautiful. Man. You know, sometimes it's not even what you say, is how how you say it right? Right? How you saying And that's one area I know I'll be working on. Yeah, eternal game. Man, they don't suse do differently different. That's called being human. Now that's the fun party, you know what I'm saying.
And so with few free what I'm trying to do is help people identify exactly what that is and the way that's logical. You know, because you got your people who use psychology in a way, you got your people who use spirituality in a way, You've got people who use reality in a way, society ways, and everybody has their own perspective. So free few is I'm trying to take all those different aspects and formulate it into a
length everybody can understand what. You know, you got this word here few And you know, when you're walking up like look at it like this pyra man, as you get closer to the top, it's few few bricks right then,
you know what I'm saying. And it's you know, this journey off the times can be lonely because it's not a lot of people they want to change in a way this constructive and positive, you know, and something we have to sometimes eliminate the people around us in order to grow, because you know, they've got energy vampires out here. You've got a lot of people and destructions in our life,
you know. And it's and it's if you sometimes I want to grow, you gotta start peering them layers back, and that means eliminating some people from your life because they're not going in the same direction. You know. You know, I was you gotta build a team. You know, you got your team, just your inspiration, and that helps you make those kind of steps in the direction you're trying to go. You might stumble, but you get up. You
know you will stop. Listen, man, I'm at the beginning stages of this whole entrepreneur thing, and I've been chasing that idea for so long since I was probably like and I'm thirty one now, Okay, so I'm really you know, I've been on that journey for a long time where you make thirty one look good. Yeah, definitely keep myself up, man. But I've been on that journey for so long. Man, whatever it was in me, I never really lost myself completely, and I'm so grateful that I never did. I never
really took the path that everybody else did. It was something I can't I don't know what it is, something with it might make college stubbornness. But I always believe in myself. I always counted on me, even when I out that the world was wrong and I was right. I met this point nine in my life that I realized that I was always right about me. It's always right about me, and I feel like everybody is right about themselves, even when they doing things that they don't
feel like it's you know, productive towards their lives. It's something within themselves they know they're doing wrong, or they know they ain't doing right, or they know they want to do something better. I'm trying to free tapping into that core, pumping into I'm gonna tap into that core. So this is free fus you know, has a spiritual, educational component elevation, you know, And I'm figuring out ways to make that so logical and I can communicate that
that idea to the masses, to the masses. So I always use this example of the feeling or emotion behind a company like Nike, right, Nike is a is one of my foundational ideal companies that kind of that are marking myself like or aspire to be like, just because of the magnitude and what they mean. So I look at their definition and how they went about being that big, and how inspirational they are to the world. I know for the fact that I'm I'm at the ground level.
But free fue is ten times more effective than Nike. Absolutely, I know it is. They started when you started at Yeah, they started off as on the bottom. I read that book. That's a really good book. Yeah. Everything you know in this world you can, you can start from the rags and get to the riches. That company right there. Then they started off with five hundred dollars made they first order as a as a company that sold shoes for
another company. That's how they started off. And they formulated to whatever it was, and they grew and they evolved to be Nike. Nike. They stand alone, you know, come out evaluation. Yeah, but everybody was it. Yeah, the Nike culture is real. You know, my beloved brother Virgil helped you know, Nike in terms of you know, it was heartfelt level man, another level designer moved on to the
Louis you know, condolence, rest in peace. I know. He did something for Malik Books that I would never forget. I had a personal relationship with, you know, Virgil, you know, reached out the small independent bookstores. When his book Icon Something of Off came out last year, he reached out to independent bookstores UM and Malik Books was one of them. Because he selected certain black ones and he selected certain
um Um mainstream independent one. And so what happened was he gave us fifty copies to do whatever, come on no strings attached, you know, fifty copies of a seventy dollar book. Actions like that. Every time I see an action like that, I repost that and I tag free few because actions like that I work. Free few is based on making small gesture moves. Yeah, generous, That's what he is all about. And if I could get other
people to understand that concept, yeah makes he even. Also, Virgil also allowed um, some of us whose small independent bookstores to sell ten days before the book was released. That he gave us ten day window before other stores can sell a book to allow us to make sales. Man. In addition to the fifty that's a good guy. I did, yes, yeah, and I did so well selling the book, brother did um.
In fact, I was the number ones and t book said that I was number one in the world, so icon something man and and and Virgil he I had the dam because I sold so many copies this before the Nike I released it, and never that the publisher I wanted to wait until April to give me the copies that I sold when the book was gonna come out in January, I DM Virgil. He damned me back
that within an hour and said expect the call. Shortly when I got the call, the publisher said told me that whatever money I sold up into that conversation, that they're gonna send me those copies. But going forward they have to tell I need to change the date and tell everybody else is gonna be in April. So I was allowed to accommodate every one of those sales made because Virgil came and said, I told man, it's gonna be.
They're gonna want refunds. I said, you know, I can't wait to April when when I get about the release are gonna be. So I got you expect the call. Man. Come on, man, that's what he means. To meet Virgin of Block Sir. You know he always right here for me. She stepped up in a real way. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to meet him. Man, But his work lives on his work lives on actions like that like That's that's what the meaning the free few is. Man.
Just a small action, small ds like that, man, and every single human being on the planet is capable of doing something kind for another person. That's what I'm trying to unlock on people. Many the whole you are not alone on this journey. Man alone, You're not alone. This is the first line of Yanna line right here. Man, Yeah, yeah, because you know, it takes a village to raise the child. Man, and I like that. You're not alone, not alone. We
don't get to what we got alone. People in our lives. Yes, you know, they helped us along the way, and we have to give credit and we have to, you know, give praise to them. You know, we don't live on the I don't know, man lives on the is. You know, we all have to help each other, right, you know, more, I always say more together. It's funny that way, man, It's fun that. It's fun that way, and transcending and unity can bring about a universal change, it can. Yeah.
I love the concept of free fueld. It's not alone. You're not alied. You're multi talented. You're doing a lot of things. I'm holding in man, I understand without those talents before. So I'm putting it all into one place. Man. I be spared myself a little thing throughout these times, trying to find myself. I know my direction now, you know which I had to do the same thing from
me leaving. I had to find the right formal. And that's what it's about, is that you can go in a lot of direction, but you gotta find that direction is gonna make you sugge. That's yeah, and then you can add other elements along the way evolution right there, man, Yes, that's what it's all about. My brother. We're coming into a conclusion on our wonderful interview with Robinson. Thanks, Man, appreciate you brother. Just has been this has been fun.
I appreciate that. A lot of energy, man, Man, I'm so excited. Man, about like five more hours. Man, I gotta come back and get on the podcast again and we gotta talk. Man. I got so many ideas. I just want to gifts to people. Man, talk to people. Man. I'm changing, man, I'm killing with I'm changing my life man. And it's inspiring to think about the idea of how many other people I can touch and change their lives to man, because it's a beautiful feeling once you're able
to do that and unlock that. Man, I've never experienced life like this. Is like I'm a kid, Agat Jordan, I'm a kid again. Man. People forget that, man, we still kids, you know when we grow up. Man, At our court. We still children. Still children take suddenly five years just to learn how to live. Man, you know you're really a child. You know you have people used to live a long long time, you know, hundreds of years, honeys and hunters of years, and they say it takes
sunny five years. That's why why people that's older than wise. You know, when you talk to an elder, it's like, man, when you get all that wisdom right, they found out how to live. They found out, you know, the blueprint. They ain't bouncing off walls. You know when you're young, you're bouncing off everything's expirit Oh, I don't touch that, that's hot. Oh man. So we learned better. But that's what I love about books because we don't have to
make those same mistakes. We can read it and learn and then move past that and going on on the the journey to the next you know, destination. So, my brother, I appreciate this interview. Thank you, and thank you for your jingle, Thank you for your spirit, thank you for your time. I appreciate you, my brother.
