This is April from Elik Books. We have Latanya Richardson, author of Love Sawid. Welcome, Welcome, welcome, Thank you April, about your journey and what made you are inspired you to write this book.
Let's see, I had this story in my head for years. I've always loved a good love story, particularly a good black love story. Black love, yes, and one that wasn't a struggle love story. And so I started, like I said, years ago, with this. I needed to sit and kind of develop the characters.
Once I had that done and I.
Was able to kind of just put everything together with the plot and all of that.
I'm an avid reader, so you know, I've been.
Reading books for years obviously and just wanted to take a stab.
At it, you know. Okay, now how long have you been out? I released the book on Valentine's Day this year. Oh well, Krack and congratulations we got a new author. Now, yeah, congratulations, it's a beautiful cover. You have a basketballer here. Is there any significant for the basketball? Absolutely? So the love story is about Kevin Peterson. He is a professional basketball player.
He needs a shrikingly beautiful and cultured young woman named Layla Simone.
Lane, and it's their love story. It's a love at first sight.
And their journey to get to their destination.
So, okay, love story. I love love stories. On this journey? Did it allow you to see yourself in it? Are?
Is it a depiction of things that you've seen?
It's a little bit of all of that, you know.
I always say art does imitate life, you know, so we take our.
Collective experiences and we you know, put them in our arts.
So yes, there's a tag bit of that, But overall the story is fiction. Okay, so yeah, just a little bit of me, but it's predominantly fiction.
Okay, your story. Do you feel that it's a relatable for male and female or just for just for us? It is definitely for both male and female.
Obviously with the basketball you have that him being a professional basketball player.
It's a love story. Who doesn't love love?
You know, it's relatable, it's raw, it's all of that.
So I think both men and women will enjoy the story.
Team work makes the dream work, Aprawn, the stomp interviewing authors in the store Latanya Richison Love sort where here's the continuation of the organic interview at Malik Books signing this week.
Sit in the room and block everything out, you just writing, and everybody's like, well.
What did you do?
This is my you know, the ideas, my thoughts.
I just put them in my notes. Take that, you know, and transcribe them and what have you. But it's just again, I'm just amazed. At first of all, I've almost sold three hundred copies.
Come on, and that I have something in my hand and I'm looking and I still can These are my words, these are this is my story that I created from here and it's living, breathing and perpetuity, you know what I mean.
And it's just like it's just it's just God is amazing. God is amazing.
And so in December, because I was done and we just needed to do some editings and some finishing, and.
God was like, if you don't do this now, you're.
Gonna miss your opportunity. And I was just like, I gotta get it done. So once I told everybody was like, okay, just her, just like, when's it coming out?
I said? Valan Guides. Then giving myself.
The deadline, you know what I mean, because now I'm flip to the fire.
You know what It's like, Okay, because I know my people would be like, but I.
Thought you she said, she said, you know.
And I never want to. I don't like being that person. Like I always tell you. If I tell you, I'm gonna do something that's already dunhu, you.
Know what I mean.
And so the fact that people were just like looking forward.
And then Philip was like, so this was like, okay, we don't have it, so let's just do pre sale. Let's just let them know.
It's coming out Valentine's Day on your website, you know, because they put it on Amazon and all that for pre sale. But She's like, no, let's do it through your website and pre sell it. And literally within a week, I had like eighty ninety people that.
Purchased the rage. That was awesome though, and I was just like, what is going on? And so it's just all been just word of mouth, grassroots, just me. So what I have people do.
And what I have to do today is when they get the book, I have them. So this has been my marketing strategy. Everybody's been sending me a picture of them reading the book.
Okay, And so she's she's in Carousyle.
I had a look. They in the hair salon everywhere. Love it. Yeah, I mean it's just been like crazy.
Travel consultants don't traveling.
And so everybody's just been more than my one friend she she was in where she she was in caval Saint Lucas. My other friend was literally on the Nile in Egypt.
Love it, so everybody. So now everybody's like, oh, I got to get my picture to you. Let me get my picture to you. Let me get my picture to you.
And I've just been posting it on you know, social media, and so now everybody's like they want their picture with the I got the books I'm gonna take, I'm gonna send it to you, you know.
So I'm like, okay, that's a that's an awesome marketing track. Yeah, yep.
