Meet Your Host:

Hey there! I’m Michelle Kui—Visibility Marketing and Speaker Success Coach.

I’m the founder of Elevate LifeCoaching, where I help coaches like you build a stand-out brand, attract high-quality 5-6 figure clients, and land paid speaking gigs—all by leveraging the #1 most important asset in your business (hint: it’s not JUST social media!).

My Journey into Public Speaking & Visibility

My speaking journey started early—at 9 years old when my dad voluntold me to enter a speech contest (thanks, Dad!). Since then, I became the go-to speaker whenever someone needed a voice on short notice.

From leading corporate workshops to running training sessions, I thrived where most people froze—grabbing the mic while others sat back, hoping not to get called on.

After working with hundreds of coaches, I realized a HUGE missing piece that most entrepreneurs completely overlook—and it’s the #1 strategy top coaches use to grow their business, attract premium clients, and get booked on bigger stages.

Are you using it? If not, let’s change that. 🚀

Speaker 1

Hello , welcome to the Make it Visible podcast . I'm your host , michelle Kui . I am a visibility and marketing coach , and this is our special spot for female coaches who might be feeling a little bit lost in the crowd , especially if you're introverted .

We're here to help you to stand out , so join us as we share stories , tips and fun chat that will help you shine . Whether you are new or perhaps you've been coaching for a while , this is going to be your go-to place to be seen and heard . So get comfy and grab your coffee . Let's get started .

This is a question I get all the time from coaches who just got out of the coaching program and they have no idea of where to begin and how to start , and all you hear are these noises about . You need to have a niche . What is your iHealth statement ? Do you have a website ? How much are you charging ?

All these different information creates a lot of overwhelming feelings for newbie coaches who just fresh coming out of coaching program , and you have this burning passion inside of you that you cannot wait to share with the world , and so today I'm going to talk about three simple steps to get you out and start going , so that you can start a tracking client .

Three very easy , simple steps . That's the end . Tip number one is you want to stop everything that you have thought and hear about having a niche . I think that has been pressured so many coaches to finding a niche .

But the reality is the niche that you're coming up with the first time and first try is probably not going to be the one that you're going to land on in the future . So my suggestion is you come up with a general concept . So that's say , you are into light coaching , or perhaps you're into career coaching , transition coaching .

Just pick one simple topic that you're passionate about and perhaps , thinking back , this is somewhere where your journey of how you start your coaching journey perhaps you were working with a light coach and that prompted you to wanting to look further into coaching industry .

And perhaps you were working with a career coach , or maybe you were someone who were going through some light transition . And here you are . You found yourself lost , confused , and you decided to tap into attending a workshop that was held by a coach , or a conference that was meant to develop your personal skills .

Whatever it may be , there's a journey that you had trouble on and something that you were passionate about before you decided I'm going to give it a shot and become a coach . So what was that moment like for you , wanting to go into coaching period not even thinking about business yet . So what was that moment like for you ?

And pick one general topic whether it's a light coach , career coaching , transition coaching , wellness coaching pick one topic and just go out and test it out . I promise you there's going to be so much information coming to you afterwards .

The second thing I hear a lot of coaches are struggling with is well , great , michelle , now I'm out there and what do I talk about ? What do I say to people and how do I tell them how much I charge ? Initially , you probably don't want to do any of that . Those are your second step , your further .

Your next step , your initial step , is to talk to people as many as possible and understanding what are some of the life challenges that they may have , what are some of the things that they find difficult but you find it easy . So , giving an example , I'm really good with planning , I love strategic things and I love to follow a system .

You put me in the box . I'll be very comfortable in the box because I like structure , I like system , and so you wanted to think about what are some of the things that people are struggling with . But you find it very . It just comes very easy for you , whether it's organization or maybe helping people solving problems .

What kind of problems do people usually come to you and solve ? So keep it super general and focusing on what is it that people are struggling with , and I promise you again , this is going to help you to further define your niche . That's going to come much later .

The third thing that you wanted to work on as a newbie coach and this is exactly where I would begin , where I would start is setting up your expectation . I cannot tell you how many times I have heard coaches encouraging other coaches to ditch the night to five job .

But you don't want to place yourself in a position where finance becomes a burden and becomes a stress factor , where you no longer are passionate about coaching but you're passionate about chasing a client so that you can keep up with the night to five lifestyle , and you don't want to do that because you definitely want to have a backup plan , just so that it's

something that pays the bill while you pursuing the passion . If I do not recommend that you ditch your night to five right away . I do find that a little too much of a risk , especially for my personality . There is no way I'm going to ditch a night to five not knowing where my next client is going to come from .

So you want to set an expectation of how much time do you need in order to build your business from the ground to up ?

And every single one of us may be a little different , because some of us will have some financial support Maybe it's from our spouse or maybe it's from our previous savings so that would allow you to perhaps spend a little more into investing in your business by working with the team or having an outsource to some kind of marketing agent or virtual assistant .

That allows you to not just doing a one-person job . But if you're someone like me , where I don't have that resources , I don't have a spouse who pays my passion and I don't have a virtual assistant who can help me to set up , then you're basically doing everything on your own as a solopreneur .

There are smart ways of doing it , and there's definitely ways that I have done it , and this is something that I'm very passionate about teaching my students on how do you create and build your coaching business from the ground floor up as a solopreneur and being able to utilize some of the technology and automation that's out there , so that you don't have to do

the one-person job , even though you can do it in a very budget friendly way . You don't want to put yourself in a position where you have to worry about where do I find my next client ?

And here's a bonus tip as you're going out there and talking to clients and talking to potential dream clients , what you're going to find is that while you're doing all these outreach , heading out , talking to people , you also want to set aside some time to build the foundation , which means that you're going to spend some time working on your website .

You're going to spend some time working on your social media and you're going to spend some time in creating content that you can put out to the world and be helpful to your potential client .

So it's a simultaneously all the things that's happening in the back end , and this is something that you will have to set up the expectation that your client doesn't just come and they don't just fall on your lap overnight .

You do have to do the work , and some of those work means that you have to manage your time smartly so that your time doesn't manage you .

So I want you to look at your calendar and figure out how much time would you actually need in order to build a coaching business from the ground up without burning out your passion , because you have to keep chasing your client one person at a time . I hope this is helpful .

These are the three tips that I would personally start again , and I would encourage all the new newbie coaches to think about and start . Number one is to just pick a general topic that you feel passionate about . Perhaps it's like coaching , career coaching , wellness coaching something that you cannot stop talking about , and don't get too specific .

When you're getting too specific , you're feeling trapped in that realm of I need to nail my niche , and that creates a lot of pressure in hoping that you can do it .

And , to be honest , nailing your niche will come to you as you heading out there , understanding people and getting to know what the problem that they have , and you'll be able to have more data and more research and more market feedback so that you know exactly how to talk to your potential client .

Without those proper language , you're just creating a coaching business that's based on an artificial , imaginary friend of ideal client , which is not in a very effective way to nail your niche . What will really nail your niche is for you to get out there , talk to the people , understand what problem they have and help them and talk to them .

While you're doing this , you want to also be able to suggest to them that , hey , this is something I can do professionally . How about we set up a discovery call and that I can walk you through that coaching session properly ? And at the end of that call , if you resonate , if you have a hard desire , then I can share how much I charge you .

Go through that process . I will promise you you're going to get your first paying client in no time . Hey there , ready to level up your coaching business and attract more awesome paying clients ? Because we got something incredible just for you Introducing the Client Attraction Accelerator .
