Kasra Dash: So if I am looking to grow my home security business and I want to generate more home security leads, what would you do? James Dooley: For home security, if I’m looking to grow the leads and build my online presence, I’d start with SEO. I’d want a strong brand presence, lots of positive reviews, case studies and testimonials. That helps with generating leads and also helps when people check who you are, because they quickly see a legitimate home security company they can trust. That would be step one. Would you look into anything with social media? Kasra Dash: With home security, if you can record yourself installing systems, those short one to two minute clips on Instagram or Facebook can help. They work as case studies. They help convert traffic into paying customers. I wouldn’t rely on them alone to generate leads. They support conversion more than acquisition. Away from that, what about lead generation? James Dooley: FatRank.com does quite a lot of lead generation for home security companies. We normally niche down further than just “home security”. It could be CCTV cameras, automated locks, fire alarms or other individual services. FatRank offers all these niches. That’s what matters. Kasra Dash: A lot of business owners chase the number of leads, but it’s about the quality. If someone said they’d give me 100 home security leads from random places across the UK or overseas, that’s no use. I’d rather have ten high-converting leads than 100 pointless ones where all I do is waste time. Quality beats quantity. James Dooley: Completely agree. The Holy Grail is having quantity of quality leads, but ultimately generating your own leads is the long-term win. If you can run SEO, PPC and social media properly, you become independent from third-party lead generation companies. The issue is most home security business owners are brilliant at installing CCTV systems but aren’t great at marketing. They don’t collect case studies, testimonials, build content, optimise pages or build links. That’s why they team up with experts. Track KPIs, get ROI and both sides win. I mentioned PPC earlier. What’s your view on PPC? It can get expensive if you don’t know what you’re doing. Kasra Dash: It depends who’s running it. If you’re the person fitting CCTV systems all day, you won’t have time to manage a PPC account, add negative keywords, deal with competitors clicking ads, track click fraud and constantly optimise the campaign. It’s a full-time job. If you have an in-house PPC expert with years of experience, PPC can work. Or you outsource it, but look at case studies. If you’re a CCTV installer in Glasgow, check whether the agency has successfully run PPC for installers in Manchester or somewhere similar. If they’ve done it in one city, they can replicate it for you. There are pros and cons to everything. James Dooley: Exactly. PPC works if you have the right person running it. SEO is essential for long-term lead generation and brand credibility. Facebook ads can work if you’re promoting a new product that people don’t know about, especially for interruption marketing.
