Episode description

What I don't want to do and what I do instead.

Transcript

Here are some things I don't want to do. I don't wanna get up at 5AM. I don't wanna spend 5 minutes and 50 degree water. Hustle 50 hours a week, time block my calendar, so I can squeeze every second of productivity out of my day. Drink green juice at 7AM. Or do 75 hard. But speaking of hard, here's how I do hard stuff, a little bit at a time. I iterate. I take what I did, and I try to make it a little bit better as I go. By way of example, I've been working on a new book, for about 6 months now.

Each chapter is a page or so. I write a chapter day, sometimes more, sometimes a little less. If I miss a day, that's okay. I simply begin again the next day. I take a look at what I've written, and I try to make my storytelling a little bit better as I write the next chapter. In a week or so, it'll be done. Maybe they'll take a little bit longer. I don't really know. But I'm enjoying the process of writing it.

It's the progress and the writing of the chapters and iteration that is more satisfying than actually finishing the book. So it's okay to go slow. To not rush, be kind to yourself. For me, the enjoyment is in writing the book, not finishing the book.
