May 2023 marked the 5th anniversary of GDPR. Now is the time to take the next step forward in managing data with a global data security framework with common standards. Such a framework would allow secure borderless data flow. But is this a realistic aim? According to UNCTAD 71% of countries have data protection regulations in place and a further 9% have legislation in development. One solution to this multiplicity of regulatory environment could come with greater adoption of pseudoanonymised data.
