I'm going to challenge you on this episode. I'm going to challenge in the way you think about how we can lower our impact, not only as an individual or as a community, but businesses and how they can lower their impact and not just one aspect of a product or service, but the entire thing.
So if you're having a product like an orange juice and you are looking at how you can lower your impact, how do you lower your impact when you are serving it in a plastic bottle compared to how you actually cultivate and grow the oranges and how do you use pesticides? Do you not? Do you have to clear out an area to build a farm to build that that farm with where you grow the oranges?
And there's all these different types of things that we think about when we talk about making a product that we only focus on one or two aspects of the product. When we can actually find ways to reduce our impact from a product in various ways that might actually have a bigger impact. So we're going to talk about this because on today's episode I have on the program Christophe Girardier. He's a CEO of Glimpack. He's from France and he's talking about his business and how he created it.
Glimback to basically put together a business that will help businesses lower their impact based on a mandate by the European Union. It's going to be a fun episode. Let's start the show. Hey everybody. Welcome back to the show. Hey everybody. Welcome back to another exciting episode of the How to Protect the Ocean podcast. I'm your host, Andrew Lewin.
And this is the podcast where you find out what's happening with the ocean, how you can speak up for the ocean and what you can do to live for a better ocean by taking action.
On today's episode, I said I'm going to challenge the way you think about products, not only as an individual and consumer, but also as a business owner maybe or how other businesses, large businesses and corporations can change the way they impact the environment, but not only being able to make money off of products, but having a lower impact on the actual environment, not just in climate, not just on the oceans, but on several aspects of protecting the planet.
When you are able to reduce it overall, now you're talking about having a product that's much better for the environment and not just one aspect because we know that our planet is not just being destroyed by using just regular old climate change, but also by the way, we're looking at marine plastics, we're looking at fisheries, we're looking at a lot of different aspects of deforestation, a lot of different aspects, and there's ways that we can lower our impact overall and have
a better influence on our overall environment. So we're going to be talking to Christophe Girardier, who is a CEO of Glimpact. We talked a little bit about how he became the CEO of Glimpact.
And he's talking about customers that he works with, corporations, large corporations in the fashion industry, agro-food industry and others, where he talks to them and works with them on how they can lower their entire global imprint, their environmental imprint based on looking at their entire supply chain and how they can reduce it overall. It's a fantastic episode. It's a wonderful interview to do. I love this one because this really challenged the way I thought of looking at plastics.
I used to just focus on one aspect of it, but there's an entire aspect that you can focus and maybe not focusing on just the plastic bottle that a product comes into is going to help by reducing other aspects of its environmental footprint. So we're going to talk about that. And I want to hear a lot about what you think about this because I think it's really going to challenge a lot of us. A challenge is definitely challenge the way I thought.
But here's the interview with Christophe Girardier, the CEO from Glimpact, talking about how we can, as corporations around the world, lower our environmental impact as a whole. Enjoy the interview and I'll talk to you after. Thank you, Kisto, for joining us on this episode of the "How to Protect the Ocean" podcast. I told you, it's a very different way of thinking about what we can do to lower your impact on the environment, right?
And looking at not just from a climate perspective, or not just from an ocean perspective, but from an entire planetary perspective. This is something that I think is really going to make us think about how we move forward with companies like trying to greenwash and companies really trying to lower their imprint.
And even talking to Kisto during the interview, I said, it requires a certain transparency from the company of looking at how can they reduce their overall footprint for making their product or even doing their service. And it's going to say, "Hey, look, we realize that there's one aspect that may not be great, but if we reduce the other aspect, we've reduced our impact by 40% or 50% or even 60%.
And by tackling each one at a time and looking at what they can do and what they can't do, I think will be really interesting to see how we can lower our entire footprint. Because we may not be focusing on the right thing. We may be focusing on the wrong thing or on something that would have a less impact if they change it. But I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. This is going to be really interesting.
I am going to put a link to the app that Christophe mentioned at the end called MyGlimpack. I filled it out. It's really, really interesting. It only has a few countries. So if you're in the US or you're in Belgium or you're in France or even in Europe, somewhere in Europe, they have that. They don't have one for Canada, which I'm going to work with this stuff. We've got to have that Canadian representation. But it's really interesting on how you fill it out.
And it tells you how many sort of planetary boundaries that we cross and how many planets will hurt based on looking at this. It's really interesting. I hope you download. I'd love to hear and see your your results because I'll share my results. But yeah, so I'll put the links there. I'll put the links to Christophe so you can contact him if you want. And of course, I'll put all the links for us and this podcast so that you can get a hold of us.
And if you want to get a hold of me, you can do so by just going to our Instagram at How to Protect the Ocean, DME at How to Protect the Ocean. And don't forget to subscribe and hit that notification bell to watch all this stuff on YouTube. I put out I put out three episodes a week and I want to make sure that you get access to that.
