這一則故事提到：從前有一位國王，想要挑選一位能幹的大臣。國王好不容易找到一個人，不過想要考驗他是不是有真才實學；於是命令他捧著一個裝滿油的鉢，要他走到離城二十里外的林園。如果途中不掉落一滴油，大家就要尊敬他如同尊敬國王一般；但只要掉落一滴油，便馬上要把他的頭砍下來。
如這位大臣小心翼翼地捧著油鉢，只要一滴油掉落地上，性命就不保；我們在修行的道路上也是一樣，要小心謹慎，千萬不要放逸，否則慧命就無法延續下去了。
