這一則故事提示我們：見到美色而把自己困在其中，就好像蠶吐絲作繭自縛一樣。
如果想要捨棄歡喜或憤怒，應當要除去邪念及色法，兩個一併捨離；例如燒得很熱而熔化的金子，雖然金子很貴重、很美好，但如果貪著金子就會燒身；如果不想燒身，不能只是把火去除卻留下金子，必須金和火全部去除才可以。
