這一則故事提到，波斯匿王的大象聽到善和比丘誦經的聲音，竟然停下腳步注意傾聽而不肯前進。波斯匿王心想，這位法師聲音這麼和雅美妙，就想以上好的布料親自供養。沒想到一看到善和比丘面貌醜陋，立刻生起輕慢心，丟下衣物很失望地走開了。其實，「人不可貌相，海水不可斗量」，不要任意以相貌來衡量他人。《金剛經》也說：「若以色見我，以音聲求我，是人行邪道，不能見如來。」如果以三十二相、八十種好的色相見如來，或想從佛的美妙梵音中求如來，這樣會走入邪道，是無法正見如來的。
希望大家不要以貌取人，無論做什麼事，都能夠起隨喜心，不要隨便抱怨，因果歷歷不爽。
