這一則故事提到，有一位比丘勇猛剛健，但被佛派到深山中獨自修行時卻很怕鬼，動了想要離開的念頭。
世尊告訴他：如有志同道合的善知識在一起修行最好，如果沒有的話，也不要因為怕孤獨，而與愚癡、放逸的人在一起，因為跟著這些人撥弄是非、懈怠、放逸，自己沒辦法精進，反而對自己的道業有妨礙。
我們修行不要怕孤獨，心中有佛、有正念，佛就與我們同在。
