一般人喜歡爭高低，但是《大智度論》說：「勝者墮憍坑，負者墮憂獄；是故有智者，不隨此二法。」意思是說：勝利的人雖然勝利了，但是墮入憍慢的坑洞內，而失敗的人則墮入憂愁的牢獄中；無論是贏或輸，都會墮入煩惱之中，因此有智慧的人不隨順此二法，不會與人爭辯輸或是贏。一般人喜歡爭強鬥勝，但是其實人上有人、天上有天，一山還比一山高。不一定每次都會得勝，即使得勝也不是永久，更不值得憍慢。辱罵別人，別人安忍並沒有損傷，反而自己因為造了口業，而先遭受了惡報。
