這一則故事提醒我們應當要注意自己的言行舉止、起心動念，不要隨意惱亂眾生。如果惱亂眾生，他的果報就會如影隨形，如響之應聲。你走到那裡，這影子一定就跟到那裡，不會落後一大截的，所以我們對自己的身口意要特別小心。
而這位老公公為了見佛，拄著柺杖，一步一步辛苦地走，走了十年才見到佛，而且還被擋在門外，差一點就見不到佛了；還好佛慈悲恩准，才能讓他見佛一面。人身難得，佛法難聞，我們有幸能夠聽聞佛法，希望大家好好珍惜，精進修行。
